The 2.4 liter engine in my car has had excessive oil consumption. now the engine oil is like peanut butter and the blow by out the oil fill is strong.

My 2015 Chevrolet Equinox has a cracked exhaust manifold, a known issue affecting many vehicles of this model. When using the heat or air conditioning, gas fumes enter the cabin, creating a serious risk of carbon monoxide exposure. I regularly transport my two young children in this vehicle, and we are forced to drive with the windows down in cold weather to reduce the risk. The vehicle also consumes oil and is still being financed. Despite the manufacturer being aware that this is a widespread problem, I am being quoted nearly $2,000 for the repair. This poses an immediate and serious threat to the health and safety of my children and myself.

When I was driving down the street, I noticed smoke coming from the hood then flames . I parked off to the side of the road and open the door and took off running away from the vehicle. Loosing everything clothes, phones , jewelry important documents. I paid off the vehicle. Was happy that for once in my life I did something good until that happen so please help on what to do . I know I didn't pay off the SUV for nothing.

Timing chain tensioner lost tension and timing chain got so loose it would not turn the cams and catastrophic engine valve damage was done! This engine is notorious for this and there are class action lawsuits as a result but no recalls from GM as yet only TSB’s (Technician Service Bulletins). This is going to cost me thousands in repairs and I still owe $8500 on it. If this happens in traffic it could pose a serious safety risk in addition to the financial burden it is causing many people! Mine fortunately happened in my driveway and the vehicle had to be towed to my mechanic and has been there for 3 weeks. Have had rental vehicle costs as well. He had 3 other 2010-‘16 GM 4 cylinder 2.4L Ecotec engines in his small shop with the exact same issue! After doing research it is a common issue and GM has done nothing to solve it!

My vehicle has been cranking when trying to turn on. Sometimes when it does turn on, it will engage the anti theft system. It will also turn on my 4-ways, and windshield wipers other times without me triggering these buttons. Sometimes it will say that I don’t have power steering. Other times, my AC will not work. It puts me and my family at risk because if the system is continuously having issues, I worry that something bad will happen while we are driving! I saw that there are other similar complaints online for the 2015 Chevy equinox. I have no dashboard lights on, other than tire pressure light (which my tire pressure is fine, but the sensor for this has malfunctioned as well). This has been an ongoing and worsening issue since January 2024. I purchased the vehicle with no issues in December 2023.

I lost power in the middle of a clover leaf intersection without any previous indicator lights. I was barely able to get to a small shoulder and almost got hit by other vehicles. I was able to restart the car and get to a safer location. The timing chain was failing amd the engine oil was gummy according to the mechanic. I was barely over 100,000 miles. Vehicle oil had been regularly maintained with Mobil 1 15,000 mile oil and never showed as low during checks. Throttle body was covered with carbon and the codes came back for the VVT. Timing chain was replaced but the engine lost compression a few months later. All known issues with this engine and I lost tens of thousands on GM’s negligence. Not to mention the dangerous driving situation I was put in with absolutely no warning.I have been sick over the situation for a fee years but thought maybe the information could help others avoid the same fate. Repair total was $9000 plus because so many of the same model was having problems and there was a shortage of replacement engines. Auto part stores started selling crate engines because of the know issues with this engine.

The incident except for by my 2015 Chevrolet Equinox has major electrical faulty ends in and timing belt changes which causes the vehicle to stall on a consumer at any time for me I was driving on a major highway or five Lanes going to work and the car decided to slow down and started shedding off thank God that I made it to the far right side on a media strip and was able get the car to safety on the knee issue but she did slow down and shut off identity media call the triple A for help and roadside assistance they came as soon as they could and then test the car to see if it was the battery or the alternator which I had put in two brand new batteries and two brand new alternators and still have both he test them all and said no he's been pulling cars off major highways that are Equinox and terrain class action lawsuit against General motors in Chevrolet due to faulty issues in the engine and they recently One cases from 2010 to 2014 although my car is a 2015 the same issue still arise my car has 85,000 miles on it when this happens and I kept up the oil change and the maintenance on the car I then in turn had the car towed to a Chevrolet dealer and turned it a diagnostic test on my car vehicle and this is what they said in my car has the same issue that is from the previous lawsuit of Equinox 2010 to 2014. Have the results are as is fun the Chevrolet GMC dealer the vehicle will not start, the problem and issues extend from the timing belt chain, valves, blown gasket, fuel pump,this is causing many major issues along with all the recalls with the 2010 and 2018 Chevrolet Equinox and Terrain. The only thing that they recommend is that the car engine needs to replacement to make consumers feel safe in their vehicles. Although my car is a 2015 I only have 85,000 miles and I continue to do all the maintenance and I was told by another mechanic that it does not have nothing to do so much as the oil change they knew that there were faulty issues with timingbelt

The timing chain went down i only have 95000 miles on it is heard these timing chains went down on. Certain equinox i feel this should of been on a recall since chevy knew this was happening 3 000 dollars later

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle decelerated unintendedly and jerked violently. The contact stated that the failure recurred consistently while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, and the contact was informed that fuel was not reaching the engine. The dealer determined that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The contact stated that upon towing the vehicle back to the dealer, the dealer replaced the fuel pump. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal loud sound. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the timing chain had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact sent an email to the CEO of GM, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

AS I WAS DRIVING, AN ERROR CAME ON MY DASHBOARD STATING, "REDUCED ENGINE POWER". THE FASTEST I COULD DRIVE WAS 25 MPH, THEN YOU COULDN'T DRIVE AT ALL. I TOOK THE VECHILE TO THE MECHANIC AND HE STATED THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY OIL PUMP AND MOTOR.

I just purchased the vehicle she hadn't even driven it 2 months when it started to shut off on it's on. Causing very dangerous situations. Then the oil consumption problem that's been well known and heavily documented time after time. Without warning lights or low oil pressure light or even a check engine light to give any type of warning the front seal blew out causing heavy oil loose that caused the engine bay and over the bottom of the vehicle drenching areas that have really high temperatures that could have caused the oil to possibly ignite at any time from the high heated areas that was covered in oil. Also with front seal blown out without warning led to timming chain becoming faulty and then breaking leading to my valves impacting with pistons because this is a interference engine. The impact caused every valve to bend which led to no compression and without compression no engine will start without compression. All this consumption issue is due to piston rings that are under sized which allows blow by leading to consumption. After all that the price of everything to be fixed at home by myself cost almost $1000 and many man hours not including all the time I have a vehicle that's new to me that I haven't been able to drive but just a few months after purchasing. Checker knows these problems exists and how dangerous these problems can be. You would think a car manufacturer as big as Chevrolet and GMC would do something to help there customers rather than not even showing any kind of care really in the world. I thought these companies stand by there products.

On [XXX], I was en route to Montgomery, Alabama, from Canton, Georgia, driving my 2015 Chevrolet Equinox on the highway at approximately 55 miles per hour. Suddenly, my truck began to decelerate rapidly on its own. A warning message appeared on my dashboard stating, “Engine reduced power to protect the engine.” I had to skillfully steer my truck over to the right shoulder to avoid a potential accident and escape the flow of traffic. It was extremely perilous to be on the highway as my truck nearly came to a complete stop. I had to have my truck towed to Chevrolet in Montgomery, Alabama. To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding my 2015 Chevrolet Equinox, which I purchased used approximately one year ago. Since acquiring the vehicle, I have experienced severe and excessive oil consumption as well as ongoing fuel injector problems. Specifically, the vehicle requires additional oil every 100 to 200 miles, which is far beyond what is considered normal or acceptable for a properly functioning engine. I have not noticed any external oil leaks, and there are no warning indicators until the oil levels are dangerously low. This not only puts the engine at risk of damage, but also presents a potential safety hazard while driving. In addition to the oil issue, I have experienced fuel injector malfunctions which affect the car’s performance and reliability. This has resulted in rough idling, reduced fuel efficiency, and difficulty accelerating at times. I have come to learn that many other owners of the 2015 Chevy Equinox are reporting the same issues, particularly with excessive oil consumption related to engine design flaws. I took my vehicle to a Chevy dealership due to engine light coming on with the stability track light showing as well as "reduced engine power notification. They are saying the timing chain is needing replaced therefore requiring the entire engine to be replaced. Vehicle is available upon inspection. Once the engine light came on and the reduced engine power light came on vehicle started stalling in traffic. I was at a traffic light and the vehicle cut itself off once I came to a slow stop. Vehicle had to be turned off and back on. Vehicle also started losing power while driving when trying to pull over to incident. Yes. I took my vehicle to a dealership. Initially, they changed other parts on the vehicle. However, when they tested vehicle, it was still showing same signs. That is when they came up with needing a whole new engine based on the timing chain. Dealership will not replace timing chain and states the entire engine needs replaced. Vehicle has only been inspected by a Chevy Dealer. Yes, Once the engine light came on, the stability track and reduced engine power mode came on. they first appeared about a week before i took the car in. I made an appt as soon as the lights came on. The dealership was not available for immediate assistance.

I have contacted GM numerous times about excessive oil consumption in my vehicle. Even with pristine maintenance and making sure that the oil is changed when it needs to be, it is chugging oil. You can’t even drive 200 miles and it’ll be bone dry. Yesterday while I was driving, it stalled out in traffic and almost caused an accident! We were on an extremely busy highway and it just stalled right there! Thank God, the people behind us weren’t tailgating!! I have contacted GM numerous times. There is currently a class action lawsuit because a lot of of the Chevy equinox is burn excessive oil. There was a previous class action lawsuit on older Chevy equinox that was settled. It’s the piston rings and everything that are causing this issue. We’ve also had the previous recall fixed, but for some reason, they will not take it off of our vehicle!! The wiper blades were fixed and we’ve contacted numerous times about that getting corrected as well

Ending result timing chain : Beginning of result: 1. My vehicle experienced a sudden and complete loss of power steering while driving at highway speeds. The loss of power steering significantly compromised the driver's ability to maneuver the vehicle safely, especially during emergency situations, putting both the driver and other road users at risk of an accident. 2. Traveling at high way speeds my car suddenly lost complete power to go. Keep going up and down in speed in middle of interstate 3. No warning signs prior no check engine line appeared until after the safety risk above.

Oil issues. The oil light does not come on when there is low oil and the rear main seal busted and the car started to shake and then it turned off. No oil light or check engine light came on. The car did start back up and I was able to move it to safely. There has been several known issues with this model and engine. There is a current service bulletin 14882. However my 2015 equinox is not included in the service bulletin even though it is a known issue with models from 2010 to 2015. Thank You!

the 2015 equinox has been serviced and maintenance regularly. The engine's timing chain failed at 73k miles. No explanation on why. I was told even though I do maintenance regularly, it just happens in these vehicle. i now need a new engine not under warranty

Rear crankshaft seal has failed. Engin oil has blown out at bottom of engine and all over underside of car. Oil has covered the exhaust system causing smoke in and outside of car. Leaked engine oil could have ignited and caused a fire that would have consumed the entire car. There appears to be numerous postings on the internet of other chevy equinox owners with the same problem. There was no prior warning that the crankshaft oil seal was in the process of failure. I personally checked the oil pan drain plug and the oil filter cap, and these were not the issue of the oil leak. Again, from my investigation on the internet sites, it appears to be a common issue with the General Motors 2.4 Liter Vortec engine in the Chevrolet equinox car model. This issue can and probably result in total engine failure and need of engine replacement. The repair to replace the rear crankshaft oil seal is very costly and should not be needed on any vehicle with normal wear and use. With my internet investigation there appears to be a design problem with the PCV design and system. The PCV system is prone to clogging and freeze up in cold weather. This can result in excessive internal engine pressure the is a major cause of blowout of the crack shaft oil seal. The temperature at the night before was only 9 degrees. The car was last used under freezing conditions which could have contributed to engine failure.

We have had nothing but issues with the engine in this. We travel for my dad’s radiation and when you get about 120 miles to 240 miles it just burns oil and you end up having to replace 2 quarts or more. There should be no reason you have to add more oil that frequently. There was a class action lawsuit against them for this very thing but only for years 2010 to 2013. This is dangerous because what if the motor blows when you’re on the interstate and you cause an accident?? Just like the Chevy recall for the windshield wipers (I almost got into an accident on the interstate because they stopped functioning in a huge storm) and there was no fix for it at the time! I didn’t know about the recall till after the wipers had failed!

[XXX] I was driving on [XXX] when my car abruptly stopped. I was almost hit by the driver behind me. I was able to roll the car over to the shoulder. The car was towed. I had 2 mechanics inspect the car on 11/26/24. They both concluded that the piston rings are defective and the car is consuming oil excessively. The oil consumption in their opinion led to burning of oil in excess that I would be unaware of. Therefore leading to no oil in the car even though the car is reading 100% oil. Thus further leading to engine failure. There were no warning lights on in the car prior to the car stopping. I called Chevrolet Customer Care Assistance. I was informed by the representative that the warranty was no longer valid but, an appointment could be made at a local chevrolet Dealership. However; I would have to pay for a diagnostic. They would then decide what they would do about my car. I questioned why I needed to pay for the diagnostic when 2 mechanics already assessed the vehicle. I also informed them that each mechanic alerted me to the oil consumption issue and that this is something many people have complained about. This defect poses a safety hazard, as the engine could seize or fail unexpectedly while driving. I have discovered that Chevrolet has issued Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) acknowledging this issue, but they have not issued a recall or provided sufficient support to affected owners. Chevrolet has not offered to repair the issue under warranty or provide any assistance, even though this is a known defect with widespread complaints. excessive Oil Consumption problem- which we were not aware of and it caused our vehicle to shut down in the middle of the street blocking traffic- making it a huge safety issue & should be a recall. Due to the excessive oil consumption that caused our timing chain to break. This is an issue that chevy knew was happening to this year & other years around the same time, but never informed us - now it needs a new engine & they won't replace it. It only has 88,000 miles, we had recently changed the oil & oil filter so this was unexpected.

My car burns so much oil, we have to add oil to it every time we go on a hour or longer trip. Doing research and according to my mechanic the 2012-2017 equinox has an engine defect that causes it to burn excessive oil. This issue needs to be recalled. It makes the vehicle unsafe to drive because you can not predict how much oil it will use!

On the morning of 7/1/24, I drove my vehicle to work as usual. There were no exceptional incidences and the only warning light on the dashboard was that of a malfunctioning tire sensor. I parked at my job as usual. There were no signs of overheating or smoking and there were no warning lights on the panel except for what was previously mentioned. That evening, as I was leaving, the car started and stopped after driving about 2 yards. It would not start again afterward and I wound up having it towed to my mechanic. He told me that I had no oil and that the engine was irreparably damaged and would need to be replaced. Again, there were no warning lights on the dashboard alerting me of low oil or engine overheating prior to this incident. As a matter of fact, the check engine light did not turn on either. Of course this would happen just as I finished paying off the car. So now I am forced to spend $3k+ to replace the engine. It is a shame that so many people are having the same issue with this make/model and Chevy should make reparations to those that have been affected.

Bought this car in February 2024 and ever since then I have had nothing but problems with the engine. The first problem happened 12 days after I had bought it and it magically disappeared all the oil which end up causing a timing issue I should not have had no oil after getting an oil change 12 days before. I ended up having to get the engine replaced with a used engine. And then it was back-and-forth to The Shop or five times before I could actually keep my car longer than a few hours. And now with the Hughes engine, we are back to the same problem heavy oil consumption which means there is a problem with the 2.4 L L4 engine, it should not be consuming 5 quart of oil less than 2000 miles of driving.

My 2015 Chevy Equinox is burning oil at an alarming rate. I just found out I have been driving this car with NO oil. I had no indicator lights come on warning me of any danger. I have only 68000 miles on this car and they are telling me I need a new engine. I still owe $15,000 on this car that I have only had for 8 months...and they want me to pay $9000.00 for a new engine on a defect that GM knows about. My [XXX] drives this car (well I won't let him now) but what if the engine blew while he was driving? This is a VERY DANGEROUS defect and people can get seriously hurt. Timing chain broke at 150,000 miles. I have only had the car for a year and a half. This is a known issue for the 2015 Equinox and the warranty company doesn't want to cover it, even though I have a 2 year 24,000 warranty on it. I have only driven 19,000 miles so I'm clearly within the window.

The contact stated that the Chevrolet mobile app indicated that the oil level was at 50 percent. The contact coasted the vehicle to a nearby Walmart. The Walmart attendant checked the oil level and concluded that there was no oil in the oil pan. The Walmart attended added two quarts of oil to the engine however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to Midas where the vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was informed that, due to the excessive mileage, the repair did not qualify to be covered under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

at about 100,000 miles it started using a lot of oil. I have to put a quart in at about every 1,000 miles. There is a lot of pressure when you remove the oil cap at idle. I never addressed the wiper issue because I changed the parts myself about 6 months before I got the recall.I won't be buying another chevy!

Oil started leaking bad underneath engine. I did some research and seen with this make and model that it is common issue. That the Pcbank valve freezes up and blows out rear seal. I took to a local certified repair shop and they verified that is the problem and just so happens that they have another one in their shop with exactly the same issue,. So, not only am I seeing multiple complaints online, I’m experiencing first hand.

EXCESSIVE Oil Consumption after 87,000 miles. Always had regular/up-to-date oil changes and took care of the vehicle. Had an oil change in June 2023 and in August (not may miles driven in that time frame), while driving I noticed the vehicle started to jerk...after arriving at work I checked under the hood and noticed there was NO OIL on the stick. I also added some antifreeze since I was there and it needed just a little. Purchased oil and filled it up. Two weeks later...again, no OIL on the stick. Less than 200 miles driven during this time. Now checking my oil every 3 days. October 2023, check engine light came on--took it to get checked and was told I was out of antifreeze. This was the only issue they could locate...no blown gaskets, etc. The AutoZone put antifreeze in to the level it should be and the next day I was almost empty again. This was well under 90 miles driven. There are NO WARNINGS, EXPENSIVE TO KEEP BUYING OIL AND ANTIFREEZE--RISK OF ENGINE BLOWING, BREAKING DOWN-GOD FORBID I HAVE MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. Two years ago the wipers went...heavy storm and they just all of a sudden stopped. Couldnt even see to pull over. Had my three kids with me and had to put the window down to try to see how I could pull over. I didnt know until a while later there was a recall. Numerous electrical issues....radio stops working when it wants too. Backup camera sometimes stays on while driving down the road, the driver side rear door won't unlock all the time.

Vehicle began to lightly shake during idling and then over the course of a week, started making a loud noise. Appointment was made with shop and vehicle parked until time to take to shop. Timing chain/belt broke while driving and had to be towed into shop. Engine found to be completely ruined because it was 4 quarts low on oil after only 5600 miles. Vehicle was not leaking oil and it was determined that the engine burned through it. No warning lights, low oil sensors or any other indication that anything was wrong until the timing belt broke. Engine had to be completely replaced.

Vehicle is stalling when stopping and starting to go. Service engine light came on had it it scanned, found it to be the camshaft position sensor. Called my local dealer as to find out if there is any recall on this, and they said that there is not. I believe there should be a recall on this part as is it is a safety issue, as stated the vehicle was stalling and you lose all power. When starting to pull out in traffic you will be left with no power as the engine stalls and you have to put the vehicle in neutral and restart it.

My car runs hot (even with all of my fluids). If I drive "too far" (25-30 mins) driving over 55mph while it's hot outside, my check engine light comes on, all the gauges in my car start going back and forth. A couple different alarms will go off (Service All Wheel Drive System, Service StabiliTrak, Service Park Assist) . My engine revs and my car will start jerking. Sometimes my car won't even start back up right away. My car jerks going up hills. For close to two years my radio and back up camera stopped working, and out of nowhere it started working fine. Took 2015 Equinox into Dealership due to call stalling - not dying. I made an appointment for a few days later. They gave a "fix", and said if it starts doing this again to bring it back in as this was their first guess at what it was. A couple months later it started stalling again. It was a Saturday, this time the stalling happened once and then died. I had it towed to the dealership and they said I had ran the car without oil. I had religiously had the oil changed and had never had low oil when I brought it in even for any oil change. The dealership quoted me $9,200 this time to "fix" it - by replacing the engine. The car has less than 90,000 miles on it.

Engine has been burning an excessive amount of oil for months. This has caused damage to pistons and cylinders and the repair costs keep adding up. My engine is damaged beyond repair. I was driving to work and started to hear a clicking or tapping sound coming from my engine so I called the dealership to make an appt for my car. When I was almost to work (which is an hr commute) my car shut off!! While I was MOVING IN TRAFFIC!!! No warning lights or sounds. I had to push myself off the road with no assistance. Thank goodness I didnt get into a wreck! When the dealership looked at it they said my engine consumed oil and it damaged the pistons and valves. After doing some research, there was a recall for my car's engine to have the piston rings redone bc of excessive oil consumption. My car was not in that recall, but my engine was. I also found that there is a class action against GM about my cars engine and the engine blowing for this exact reason. I've read so many consumer complaints about the same problem. I don't understand WHY GM would continue to make faulty engines and put them in cars to sell??? My car just turned 7 yrs old... it has 113k miles on it bc I travel a lot for work. Now I have to replace an engine that costs more than my car is currently worth. How is that fair? I can't pull 10k out of my back pocket and I shouldn't have to! I've taken care of my car. I don't wait until 0% to change my oil, I've done my flushes, I've had sensors changed out, the battery, I've always changed all my filters including the internal ones, and I just put 4 brand new tires on it. Now I have a dead car that the dealership said they would only give me $500 to trade in. Are you kidding me?! Even the dealership said they won't pay for a new engine bc it will cost them too much to repair it so they'd sell it to a scrap yard. I'm furious. I want my car fixed and GM needs to pay for what they're causing consumers to go through. That was my only mode of transportation so this whole process has hindered me from working. A MECHANIC AND THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER BOTH STATED THAT THESE ENGINES HAVE OIL FAILURES. NOT GOOD ENGINES. SAFETY WAS HINDERED BY NOT BEING ABLE TO MOVE VEHICLE WITHOUT OTHERS HELP. VEHICLE IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR OTHER SYMPTOMS PRIOR TO FAILURE. PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN REPRODUCED AS VEHICLE BATTERY WAS DRAINED AND VEHICLE WILL NOT START.

While driving to work, -7 was the temp, noticed an oil smell coming from the vents. At this point car is still running normal. When leaving work received the following information: sevice stabilitrac, reduced engine power, and low oil pressure shit off engine. I shut the car off and checked the oil. There was no oil in the engine, 2 quarts added and off i went. The car was driving like it always has, no issue. Later in the evening drove it again. The same three messages popped up, only this time i was in motion. Immediately stopped added 2 more quarts of oil which went staight on the pavement. Car was towed home, then towed to the repair shop the next day. First repair is the starter, it's full of oil and they cannot find the leak until it starts. The cost $433.81, later i receive a call they are returning the starter, to save me money, i need an engine instead. The engine is blown. The mechanic stated there was oil in the starter, and oil mixed with coolant in the air filter. States this is a common problem with the 2.4L engine. So why is there no recall? This will cost between $3,000-$5,000. I can't afford this repair. I still have a loan on the car. I have owned this car for 18 months. General Motors you should be ashamed!

My SUV uses a lot of oil. I'm not sure where it is going. Also my brakes squeal something awful. ever since I had the car.And it stalls most everytime I stop at red lights or when I park. My check engine light is on all of the time. It simply will not operate at those low speeds. The engine starts to lag and idle really bad. I ran the codes and it said it was the camshaft positioning sensor. I've owned the SUV for 18 months. I don't know what the lemon laws are where I live, but I believe it's a total lemon.

Both oil consumption and timing chains are common issues in this car. No indication of low oil on the dash and had just added oil the week before. Also had to fix the rear main seal awhile back which caused my car to just stop while driving which is also a common issue due to the design of the pcv.

my 2015 Chevrolet equinox 2.4l ecotec AWD vehicle with 102k miles had a massive oil leak in jan.2022, when it was -22 deg. f outside. The car was at work outside, and my drive home was about 7 miles. When I got home, I decided to check the oil on the dipstick and it was empty. The whole underside of the chasis was oil splattered. I added 3 quarts of oil and started the car up and oil was poring out of the rear main seal. I trailered it to a chevrolet dealer, and they said the pvc frozen up. The engine and subframe will need to come out.This was an expensive repair. This vehicle does burn oil. It does not leak oil thou. The engine oil light never came on during the ride home. I am glad I checked the oil, because the engine would have quit running on the freeway somewhere.

My 2015 Equinox started having issues over the summer. In July it had a stuttered drive to it, a lot of little hiccups in the ride. I took it in and was told the oil was bone dry despite having changed it a few months prior. I had the oil changed, and then 2,001 miles later the car died entirely, which was roughly two months after that oil change. Once again, they told me the oil was bone dry. I was told that the car had excessive oil consumption and it had essentially killed the engine. I contacted GM and they acted like they had no reports of this problem, even though a simple google search yields an impressive amount of excessive oil consumption complaints that lead to engine failure around the mileage I'm at. (111,000 miles, just paid it off a month prior too.)

When the valve freezes it results in oil loss and engine failure which puts the driver and passengers in a very dangerous situation. I had to rebuild my motor for $3100 and I had to replace the valve 4 different times. Its all about the money and how much GM would have to pay to make this problem right. Instead the NHTSA turns a blind eye to the dangerous problem and instead investigates on why some wiper blades don't work. Do some real investigation by first Equinox oil consumption problems and read some real accounts of owners being put in dangerous situations.

The Ecotec 2.4L engine installed within this vehicle has been, at an increasing rate, burning oil. At the vehicles most recent change, it burned 2 quarts of oil, which is the most it has ever burned. I'm also concerned that the low oil pressure sensor warning did not come, since it was 2 quarts low on oil. Over the past 50,000 miles, about, the vehicle averaged burning about 1 to 1.5 quarts of oil. I believe there is something systemically wrong with this vehicles Ecotec 2.4L engine that is causes it to burn oil.

My vehicles engine was destroyed when the timing chain snapped due to oil consumption problems with the engine. I started my vehicle up one day and there was a very loud sound for a few seconds and then the car shut off and wouldn't start again. I called many shops before taking it to be diagnosed and everyone of them including a Chevy dealer employee said that this unfortunately is a common problem with this vehicle . They have a terrible oil consumption problem which leads to the timing chain breaking and destroying the engine. I then took my car to a shop and they determined that it did snap and I needed a whole new engine. Chevy dealership didn't have any engines available and they still don't not because they are on back order still. So I had to take somewhere else and get a new engine put in. I got a zero mile engine put in the car with a warranty. But Chevy won't reimburse it because there is no recall associated with my vin Besides my vehicle I know of 2 other people who have the same make and model year who also had the timing chain snap and destroy the engine. One of which happened two weeks before mine. This problem has been detected in prior year models of the equinox. There was a class action lawsuit for year 2010-2013 They claimed to have fixed the problem but they clearly have not. I believe this engine needs inspected recalled and pulled from the market. This is a very costly problem that needs to be fixed. And Chevy should be held accountable for selling car's with faulty engines. I'm sure they're many more people affected besides myself and the two people I know . Luckily for myself I was in my driveway when it happened and not out with my kids in the car because total engine failure in the middle of traffic could have lead to serious injuries. Engine stopped working while advancing In turn lane to turn left at a busy intersection. It stopped moving. Required assistance from 3 other passerbys to push car through traffic and out of the intersection. It it had failed moments later the car would have been in the middle of the intersection. Then needed a tow truck to get the car to the service station. They diagnosed it to be a broken timing chain that damaged the cams and destroyed the engine. It was not inspected by anyone other than the sevice center. The car started rough 3 minutes earlier and was on the way to have it diagnosed at another service center. The check engine and system chassis lights came on after the timing chain failure.

My vehicle uses 2 quarts of oil everytime I fill up with gasoline. It is a safety issue that could cause the motor to fail in traffic putting my family and others who might be on the road at risk. When I purchased this vehicle it had 36,000 miles and it was low on oil and has used excessive amounts of oil since ever since. I have seen problems were addressed with other years of equinoxes with a 2.4 L ecotech motor and think this one should be added to the list also. While driving on I-96 in Michigan, the vehicle began to shake, and act like it was going to stall out. The check engine light came on, the no power to engine and check oil level messages appeared, disappeared, and reappeared again. After getting off at the nearest exit ramp, the vehicle did eventually stall out and would not start again. I checked the oil, the dipstick indicated that there was no oil, the dipstick was dry. I was confused because I had just had oil changed approximately 3-4 weeks prior to this incident. I had the vehicle towed to a mechanic where it was inspected and concluded that the engine was damaged and the vehicle would need a new engine. The mechanic indicated to me that there was a known issue with the Equinox 2.4L, 4 cylinder engines, where the engine burns excessive oil internally, leading to engine failure. He had just had another equinox in his shop with the same issue. The mechanic contacted Jasper motors, a company that rebuilds engines, they could get me a new engine, but not until mid-march because there were 40 of this engine on backorder. I conducted an internet search to see how widespread the issue is. Websites such as carbrain.com, chevroletproblems.com, motorreviewer.com, vehiclehistory.com, and wvdot.com, all say the same thing; the 2.4L engine "burns excessive oil". I guess on one hand, you could say buyer beware, you have to know what you are purchasing, but on the other hand, the Chevrolet dealer that I purchased this vehicle from did no disclose to me that there was a know issue with these engines and I should continually check the oil levels. Had that been disclosed, I would have likely purchased a different vehicle, or, at least had the necessary knowledge to prevent this from occurring. If there is a know issue with this engine burning excessive oil, why hasn't it been recalled and fixed?

I have a 2015 Chevy Equinox LT, I had my car repair engine light came on all lights on dash lite service warning for ABS, Traction control, StabiliTrak and steering wheel, and when I would stop the car would stall. I took to Chevy dealership and had serviced. The intake valve was replaced covered under warranty, and the ECM (engine control module) replaced. Car seemed fine after 1 1/2 years service StabiliTrak came on and off , I had issues with low fuel mileage, only check engine light came on once and then right off again after I had the spark plugs replaced the outtake valve replaced no check engine light , regular oil changes. One day the Service StabiliTrak light came on and did not come off. This has been going on for 6 months I was driving and my car started jumping when I came to a stop, no lights came on. I continued to drive and when I parked my car sounded like a mac truck and was shaking and had the smell of burning oil or gas. I parked a 2 hours later I started it the same sound and smell along with the check engine light I looked under my car and there was oil dripping, I stopped and add oil and was able to drive home slowly. I parked over night I started it and drove around the block I turned off and then waited a minute turned back on opened the hood and the engine was shaking loud and reduced engine power message came up. I am at a loss I do not have money to fix this it is a 2015 no warranties are even covered over this issue if they are able to figure out what this is. I looked all over the internet and so many people have this problem I don't understand why it is not recalled or there is no class action against GM for this

Had my Equinox towed to the dealship where I bought the vehicle and where I had every oil change completed. The service department stated I needed a new engine (not given a reason on exact issue), it is currently sitting at the dealership as I dont have 8K to replace engine!

In July/August 2021, the driver side windshield wiper got stuck mid-swipe. The only way to get it to go down was to physically move it. I was driving on the interstate in the middle of a downpour. Had to pull over several times on the way home because periodically it would move back up and get stuck. When it wasn't stuck I had to lean to the right to see out of the right side of the windshield to get home. For about 20 miles. My husband figured out the issue and purchased the malfunctioning part and repaired it. In December 2021, my engine seized at a stoplight. I coaxed the car out of the way and got it on the side of the road. The only warning to this was an occasional "ticking" noise, that never seemed to happen when my husband listened to it. We assumed it was the timing chain, but after having it towed to the dealer we were told it was an "oil consumption" issue. The "oil life" alert had been on for about a month, and I had planned on getting an oil change the weekend this happened. However, little did I know that the vehicle had ZERO oil in it. The low oil pressure light never came on. As a matter of fact no warning lights ever came on. The vehicle is now sitting at the dealership, unmoving because the fix is $8300.

Issue with oil consumption on this vehicle. Needs 2 quarts of new oil every 2-3 weeks with moderate driving. Mechanics say this is a known issue with Chevrolet Equinox’s since 2011. The only true fix is to replace the engine and even then the problem can reoccur with new engines. I have joined a Facebook page called “Terrain-Equinox Oil Consumption Recall” with thousands of members experiencing same issue. There is no assistance from dealerships to assist in covering repair costs. There was a limited recall for model year 2013 but same issues are present in 2014’s and 2015’s as well. There are also many complaints about on this issue on this bursa website. Looking for any assistance.

While driving, the check engine light came on. After getting the code we called our local mechanic and he told us the first thing we should do was check the oil level, as this is a common problem with 2015 Equinoxes. We had to add 2 quarts just to get the oil to even reach the dipstick. At no time did we ever receive an indicator about the oil being low, we just got the check engine light. Our mechanic said if we were lucky that an oil change might fix the issue. After leaving the shop, the Equinox kept stalling and the engine light came back on. We took it back in and he replaced both solenoids, which we thought had fixed the problem, but he informed us about this being a well-known issue. We then had to take the Equinox to a GM dealership anyway to fix the windshield wiper transmission issue (which is a known issue that I only discovered after my wipers broke while I was driving on a busy highway in the rain) and we asked them to do a fuel consumption test. The diagnosis came back that the pistons and rings need to be replaced, which appears to be the same issue that the 2011-2013 Equinoxes/Terrains have. There are special coverages for the previous model years and there was also a class-action lawsuit, so I don't understand why I'm repeatedly being told by GM that it's not a common issue with 2015s. As someone who works for a supplier to GM and who has friends and family members who work for GM, I'm not ignorant to how the automotive industry works. It's no secret that these engines get used across multiple model years, so it seems likely that this is the same 2.4L engine. Yet GM has repeatedly told me that even though I believe that this is a common issue, it actually is not.

WE WERE TOLD THAT DUE TO A FAULTY PVC PIPE IN OR NEAR THE INTAKE HAD FROZEN UP CAUSING PRESSURE TO BUILD UP AND IT BLEW OUR REAR MAIN SEAL, SNAPPED THE TIMING CHAIN AND BREAKING OF TEETH. THE MECHANIC SAID THIS WAS AN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES AND THAT A SPECIAL BULLETIN HAD BEEN ISSUED BUT NOT ON OUR YEAR. WE ENDED UP PAYING JUST SHY OF 1900.00 TO FIX THIS. LIVING IN TEXAS WE NORMALLY DON'T HAVE VERY COLD TEMPERATURES BUT THIS WINTER WE HAD SINGLE DIGIT TEMPERATURES AND NEGATIVE WIND-CHILL FOR SEVERAL DAYS. MY FAMILY HAD NO RUNNING WATER OR ELECTRICITY AND TRIED TO DRIVE UP THE ROAD FOR FOOD (ROUGHLY 1/8TH A MILE) AND NOTICED A TRAIL OF OIL WHEN WE GOT OUT. MY HUSBAND HAS WORKED ON VEHICLES HIS WHOLE LIFE AND AFTER SOME INVESTIGATING AND RESEARCH DETERMINED THE PCV VALVE HAD FROZEN WHICH CAUSED THE REAR MAIN SEAL TO BLOW. AFTER TAKING IT TO A GM DEALER WE DISCOVERED HOW COMMON THE PROBLEM WAS, THERE WAS EVEN ANOTHER EQUINOX WITH THE SAME DIAGNOSIS (WE LIVE IN A VERY RURAL AREA SO FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AT THE SAME TIME SAYS A LOT). IT WAS NOT A CHEAP FIX COMING IN AT $1400. THIS WAS NOT A MAINTENANCE ISSUE BUT A FAILURE ON GM"S PART WITH THEIR FAULTY DESIGN AND EXECUTION OF THE MOTOR. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHER STORIES I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, SOMETIMES CAUSING EVEN MORE DAMAGE THAN WE HAD. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL OR COMPENSATION GIVEN TO THOSE WHO HAVE FOUND THEMSELVES IN A REAL BIND FROM THIS HAPPENING. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF FILING A CLAIM THROUGH INSURANCE, SO HOPEFULLY THEY CAN HELP, BUT I CANNOT SPEAK ON THAT YET.

THIS IS DANGEROUS AS TYPICALLY WITH SYNTHETIC OILS COMING ALONG AND THE NEW RECOMMENDATION BEING 7500K MILES BEFORE OIL CHANGE I WOULD BE COMPLETELY DRIED UP IF I DID NOT CHECK MY DIP STICK REGULARLY. I ACTIVELY SEE SMOKE COMING FROM THE TAIL PIPE WHEN LEAVING A RED LIGHT AND CAN SMELL THE BURN WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE, WHICH CAN'T BE GOOD FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. MY CAR WILL HAVE ROUGH/SURGING IDLE AT RED LIGHTS, HAS EVEN SHUT OFF AT ONE POINT COMPLETELY EVEN. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE O2 SENSORS AND I CONTINUE TO ADD 1-2 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES TO KEEP UP WITH THE EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION. THERE WAS A LAWSUIT CLAIMING THIS PROBLEM ONLY EFFECTED 2010-2013 EQUINOX HOWEVER I KNOW NUMEROUS EQUINOX OWNERS WITH MODELS NEWER LIKE MYSELF WITH THESE SAME ISSUES. GM SHOULD EXPAND ENDING WITH MODEL YEAR 2017 AND STOP HIDING BEHIND THE BUSH.

NO INDICATION OF ANYTHING WRONG BASED ON THE LIGHTS (NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, OIL LIGHT, ETC WAS LIT) BUT AFTER I GOT HOME I NOTICED AN OIL LEAK UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE ON MY DRIVEWAY. GOT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY RECOMMENDED A NEW ENGINE DUE TO THE PCV VALVE FREEZING (I LIVE IN NORTHERN US AND IT'S WINTER) WHICH CAUSED THE REAR MAIN OIL SEAL TO FAIL AND A MASSIVE OIL LEAK. BECAUSE OF THAT, I WAS LIKELY DRIVING WITH LOW OIL PRESSURE, SOMETHING THAT THE CAR SHOULD HAVE HAD A SYSTEM TO TELL ME BUT DIDN'T. AND I'VE ONLY GOT 89,000 MILES ON IT! ENGINES SHOULDN'T BE FAILING THAT QUICKLY.

WITH ONLY ONE DAY NOTICE MY ALERT SYSTEM NOTED ON MY DASHBOARD TO REDUCE POWER. THE REASON I FEEL THAT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE IS BECAUSE THE CAR JUST SHUTS OFF AND DIES ON THE HIGHWAY EVEN THOUGH I WAS ONLY ABLE TO GO 30 MILES AN HOUR. VEHICLE HAS 111,000 MILES ON IT AND CONSUMES 3 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN 5,000 MILE OIL CHANGE INTERVALS. WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD THE OIL CHANGED WHEN IT IS DUE. ANOTHER ISSUE IS THAT WHEN I TAKE THE OIL FILL CAP OFF, THERE IS A WHITE MILKY RESIDUE (WHICH INDICATES THAT THERE IS MOISTURE IN THE ENGINE) NOW, I KNOW THAT THESE 2.4 LITER ECOTECH ENGINES ARE NOTORIOUS FOR PCV ISSUES. BESIDES THE PC ISSUE, THE OTHER ISSUE THAT WORRIES ME IS THAT THE PISTON/RINGS COULD ALSO BE BURNT UP. THE VEHICLE STARTED STALLING OUT AS OF LAST WEEK, THEN FLASHED A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE DTC CODES WERE P011 AND P010 WHICH ARE SIGNALS FOR BAD INTAKE AND EXHAUST CAM ACTUATOR SOLENOID'S OR (VVS T VARIABLE VEHICLE TIMING), MY GUESS IS THAT THE OIL IS SO CONTAMINATED THAT IT PLUGGED THE OIL SCREENS ON BOTHER ACTUATORS CAUSING THEM TO SEND FALSE SIGNALS TO THE ECM ON TIMING ADJUSTMENT TO THROTTLE RATIO. I AM NOT IN THE MARKET NOR CAN I AFFORD TO SELL, TRADE-OFF, OR PAY A MECHANIC THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. MY QUESTION IS, WILL THIS BE COVERED BY GM? ONE OF THE MECHANICS HAD BOTH A CHEVY EQUINOX AND A GMC TERRAIN AT ONE POINT AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH BOTH OF THEM. I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND IT IS IN FACT VERY COMMON AND GM KNOWS ABOUT IT. I PERSONALLY HAD 20 PEOPLE REACH OUT TO ME AND SAID THAT THEY OR SOMEONE THEY KNEW HAD THE EXACT THING HAPPEN TO THEM. IF THIS IS SUCH A WIDE SPREAD ISSUE THEN GM NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR FAULTY ENGINES. IT COSTS $6300 DO REPLACE AN ENGINE. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN HAVING ISSUES FOR A COUPLE WEEKS WITH ROUGH IDLE AND MY RPMS REVING WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS PEDAL. ON 12/26/20, MY VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING IT. THE SHOP INFORMED ME THAT IT HAD LOST ALL OF THE OIL DUE TO A BUSTED MAIN SEAL. HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAD A BULLETIN THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM IN MY VEHICLE. THE SEAL IS BUSTED BECAUSE THE DESIGN OF MY CAR ALLOWS MOISTURE INTO THE MANIFOLD WHICH THEN FREEZES AND BUSTS THE SEAL. IT IS COSTING ME $1500 TO FIX THE SEAL AND CLEAN THE MOISTURE FROM FROM THE MANIFOLD. I AM TOLD THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING FROM BALTIMORE TO LEESBURG VA FOR MY COLLEGE CLASSES. WHILE DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON INTERSTATE 495 NEAR WASHINGTON DC IS WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. IT CONTINUED TO STALL SEVERAL TIMES AND ANYTIME THE VEHICLE WAS GOING UNDER 20 MPH. THIS CONTINUED UNTIL I REACHED MY DESTINATION 1-1/2 HOURS LATER. ALTHOUGH NOT IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC THIS CONTINUED ON MY 2 HOUR RETURN TRIP LATER THAT EVENING. IN THESE TWO INCIDENTS THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE NEXT DAY, EVERY TIME I STOPPED THE CAR IT WOULD SURGE AS IF I WAS PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL. THEN THE CHECK ENGINE CAME ON FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE ENGINE RATTLING AND WHINING CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE ALSO SEEMS LIKE IT HAS TROUBLE SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR AND WHEN IT DID, THE CAR SHIFTED VERY HARD AND ABRUPT NOT KNOWING WHAT THE ISSUE WAS I WENT TO A MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THE VARIABLE TIMING SOLENOIDS WERE FAILING. HE ALSO TOLD ME THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. COME TO FIND OUT THESE SOLENOIDS CALLED "VVT" NEED OIL PRESSURE TO OPERATE NOT ONE TIME DID MY OIL LIGHT COME ON TO INDICATE AN LOW OIL LEVEL. THE CAR ONLY SHOWS OIL LIFE PERCENTAGE, WHICH TELLS ME WHEN TO CHANGE THE OIL. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH THERE IS A KNOWN OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM WITH THE 2.4L ECOTECH ENGINE AND GENERAL MOTORS IS AWARE AND HAS HAD A CLASS ACTION CASE AGAINST THEM.I HAVE A 2015 EQUINOX AND HAVE HAD JUMP THROUGH HOOPS TO GET GM TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS.THEY ARE TELLING ME IT IS MY PROBLEM, BECAUSE I DON'T MAINTAIN MY OIL CHANGE INTERVALS, WHICH IS NOT TRUE. I AM NOW BEING TOLD BY LOCAL MECHANIC THAT I MAY NEED A NEW ENGINE. I WAS INFORMED BY LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT TIMING SHAFT AND ACTUATOR MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED JUST TO GET THE CAR TO START. THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM IS THE SAME AS THE EXISTING PROBLEM IN CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR 2010-2013 MODELS. CHEVROLET HAS BUILT AN ENGINE THAT DOESN'T WORK AND THEY NEED TO PAY FOR THIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY OPERATING AT HALF POWER, AND THERE WERE PINGING AND RATTLING SOUNDS. THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. LESS THAN 3 MONTHS LATER, IN EARLY MARCH OF 2019, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED SMELLING OF GAS, RATTLING, STALLING. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE THE VEHICLE LESS A FEW MILES TO OUR LOCAL MECHANIC. AFTER THE MECHANIC EXAMINED THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH A FUEL PUMP AT A COST OF ABOUT $6300. WE HAD PURCHASED A THIRD PARTY WARRANTY FROM PREFERRED WARRANTIES LLC THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP, SO WE THOUGHT WE WOULD BE COVERED. THE WARRANTY COMPANY REQUESTED A MORE THOROUGH EXAMINATION OF THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE WHY THE ENGINE FAILED, AT A COST OF ABOUT $200, WHICH WOULD BE REIMBURSED TO US IF THE CLAIM WOULD BE APPROVED. THEIR ADJUSTER VISITED OUR MECHANIC, AND DETERMINED THAT SINCE THE ENGINE HAD LITTLE OIL, ABOUT ONE PINT, THE DAMAGE WOULD NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEING 'RUN ON LOW OIL.' WE WERE FLOORED, AS THE OIL HAD JUST BEEN CHANGED IN DECEMBER AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS NOT DUE FOR A CHANGE FOR ANOTHER 3K MILES. WE HAD PUT ABOUT 1K MILES ON IT SINCE PURCHASE. THERE WAS NEVER ANY INDICATION WHILE DRIVING THAT THERE WAS ANY PROBLEM WITH OIL CONSUMPTION: NO OIL LOW WARNING LIGHT, NO LEAKAGE UNDER THE VEHICLE, NO SMOKE, NO HESITATION IN DRIVING. WE DISCOVERED THAT CHEVY EQUINOXES WITH A 2.4L ENGINE BEGINNING IN 2010-2017 WERE EXPERIENCING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION WITH MANY OF THE COMPLAINANTS STATING THERE WAS NO INDICATION THE VEHICLE WAS LOSING OIL. WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE TO RECOUP OUR LOSSES DUE TO THE NEGLIGENCE OF GM IN THEIR LACK OF INFORMING OF POTENTIAL ISSUES.

PURCHASED MY EQUINOX A YEAR AGO JUNE 2019. THE CAR WAS DOING FINE UP UNTIL ABOUT THE 2ND MONTH MARK I HAD IT. THE CAR BEGAN TO HAVE A VERY ROUGH AND JERKY STOP. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I GOT A OIL CHANGE AT LEAST EVERY MONTH DUE TO MY JOB AND HAVING TO DRIVE FREQUENTLY. IN MARCH I NOTICED MY CAR WAS IDLING ROUGH BUT DROVE OK. WHILE LEAVING WORK I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT MY CAR STALLED AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY TURNED OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT. COUPLE DAYS LATER IT DID IT TWICE AS I WAS BACKING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY OF OIL EVEN THOUGH I HAD JUST GOTTEN AN OIL CHANGE. I NOW HAVE TO DO OIL CONSUMPTION TEST EVERY 2K MILES. MY CAR STILL SHIFTS ROUGH AT ACCELERATION AND DURING DOWNSHIFTING. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAMSHAFT SOLENOID SENSOR REPLACED AS WELL. MY CAR HAS 55K MILES.

ON 4-14-29 MY CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING MULTIPLE TIMES. I HAD IT TAKEN IN TO A GM DEALERSHIP ON 4-15-19 AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE THRU THE PISTON RINGS THAT HAS CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. THERE PROPOSAL WAS EITHER A $3500 FIX OR A NEW ENGINE FOR $7000. I CALLED GM MYSELF (COMPAINT REFERENCE #[XXX]) AND THEY STATED THAT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION BUT THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED ON THE RECALL LIST TO HAVE IT FIXED. THEY INFORMED ME TO SAVE RECIEPTS UPON PAYMENT FOR ANY REPAIRS I HAD DONE INCASE LATER IN THE FUTURE THERE WAS A RECALL. I WAS ADVISED TO DISCUSS MY ISSUE WITH THE CUSTOMER EXPERIECE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR SOME RESOLUTION. UPON DISCUSSION WITH THEM THEY STATED THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO AT THIS TIME AS THEY CAN ONLY FIX "KNOWN" ISSUE WITH PERMISSION FROM GM. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO ADVISED THAT IT WOULD BE RIDICULOUS FOR ME TO PAY $7000 TO HAVE ANOTHER ENGINE ADDED INTO MY VEHICLE AS THIS ENGINE WOULD MORE THAN LIKELY HAVE THE SAME ISSUES. THEY ADVISED ME TO RENT A CAR UNTIL I COULD DECIDE WHAT TO DO. THE RENTAL CAR WAS $55/DAY EQUALING TO $1650 A MONTH WHICH IS NOT FEASIBLE. I HAD TO PICK UP MY CAR TODAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP AS I NEED TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM WORK AS I WORK 45MIN AWAY AND THERE IS NOT ANOTHER OPTION AT THIS TIME. I WAS GIVEN A PAPER WITH DETAILS OF WORK NEEDED FROM DEALERSHIP THAT I WILL SAVE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. ON MY WAY HOME MY CAR STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES AGAIN. IT DOES INDEED TURN OVER AND RESTART ONCE DEAD, BUT THIS POSES A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD TO NOT ONLY MYSELF BUT OTHER DRIVERS ON THE STREET AS WELL. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL IN MOTION AND I WAS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. MY CHEVY EQUINOX SHUT OFF AS I MADE THE TURN. MY CAR IS A 2015 CHEVY EQUINOX THAT I HAVE DRIVEN SINCE I PICKED IT UP FROM THE DEALER WITH SIX MILES ON IT. ON OR ABOUT FEBRUARY 8. I STARTED THE CAR IN THE MORNING, AFTER RUNNING FOR A FEW SECONDS IT SOUNDED LIKE THE OIL WAS TOO LOW. I SHUT THE CAR OFF CHECKED THE OIL, FOUND IT LOW, I PUT TWO QUARTS IN AND STARTED IT AGAIN. I CHECKED IT AGAIN SAW IT WAS LOW, I LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND SAW OIL ON THE GROUND. I TOWED THE CAR TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC, HE SAID IT WAS A REAR MAIN SEAL. DURING THE REPAIR HE TOLD ME HE WAS RESEARCHING THE CAR AND LEARNED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR, AND WHILE HE IS REPLACING THE SEAL HE WANTED TO CLEAN THE PCV SYSTEM AS WELL. I ASKED HIM TO DO WHAT IS NECESSARY TO REPAIR THE CAR. AFTER PAYING OVER $1000.00 MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT I MAY WANT TO CALL GM OR NHTSA AND TRY TO GET REIMBURSED BECAUSE THIS IS THE SAME SYSTEM THAT WAS RECALLED, JUST A YEAR OFF. MY WIFE CALLED GM, THE PERSON SHE SPOKE WITH AGREED THAT THERE MAY BE AN ISSUE AND ASKED FOR ALL DOCUMENTATION, MY WIFE WAS SHOCKED WHEN THE 1ST REPRESENTATIVE TOLD HER THAT THEY KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEN TOLD HER THAT A SENIOR REPRESENTATIVE WILL CALL HER BACK THE NEXT. TODAY THAT SENIOR REPRESENTATIVE CALLED HER BACK. I WAS HOME WHEN THIS HAPPENED. AFTER SHE EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED AND WHAT WAS DONE TO THE CAR THE FIST RESPONSE SHE GOT WAS "SINCE WE DIDN'T TAKE THE CAR TO A GM DEALERSHIP THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO" SHE THEN PUT ME ON THE PHONE AND I ASKED HIM THAT IF THE GM DEALER FIXED IT WOULD IT BE TAKEN CARE OF.? HE THEN CHANGED HIS TUNE TELLING ME THAT IT HAS NOT BEEN ESTABLISHED THAT A RECALL EXISTS. HOWEVER, HE DID SAY THAT NOTING CAN BE DONE JUST BECAUSE I READ SOMETHING ON THE INTERNET. I REPLIED THAT YES I WAS DOING RESEARCH, YES, I DID FIND OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALL.IF OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. WHY NOT ANOTHER RECALL?

I OWN A 2015 CHEVY EQUINOX THAT PCV SYSTEM FAILED AND CAUSE MAJOR ENGINE DAMAGE. THE DAY ISSUE HAPPENED IS ONE OF THE COLDEST DAYS IN RECORD IN THE STATE OF MISSOURI. THE PCV SYSTEM FROZE CAUSING EXCESSIVE PRESSURE IN THE ENGINE CAUSE THE REAR MAIN SEAL TO BLOW. ONCE THIS HAPPEN THE CAR START TO LOOSE EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL WHICH LEAD TO THE ENGINE DAMAGE. THERE IS NOT A OIL PRESSURE GAUGE IN THE CAR SO THERE WAS NO WAY OF TELLING IF THERE WAS NO OIL PRESSURE, ONLY A OIL LIGHT IN WHICH IT DID NOT COME ON. HOW I FOUND OUT I HAD THE ISSUE IS WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED HAMMERING. I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE QUICKLY AND HAD IT ROLLED BACK TO GM. WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT MY ENGINE IS NO GOOD AND I NEED A NEW ONE, WHICH COST 7700 TO FIX. MY CAR HAD THE SAME ISSUE AS DESCRIBE ON THE GM 14882 BULLETIN BUT STILL NO HELP WITH THE COST. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER HE TRIED TO GET GOOD WILL WARRANTY SINCE IM OVER MY 100,000 MILE WARRANTY.BUT STILL NO HELP, I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE ENGINE MY SELF BECAUSE I STILL HAVE THE LOAN THROUGH GMAC. THE WORST THING ABOUT THE ISSUE IS THAT THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND ONLY CERTAIN CARS ARE COVERED ON THE BULLETIN AND THAT THE BULLETIN ONLY TIES TO THE VIN ON THE CAR. WELL READING UP THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE AND SO FAR THERE ARE MORE COMPLAINS THEN RECALL FIXES. SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CHEVY EQUINOX'S AND THEY NEED TO BE RECALLED FOR IT BECAUSE IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING AND YOUR VEHICLE JUST STOPS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY.

THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FOUR QUARTS LOW OF ITS MOTOR OIL. THEY THEN ASKED ME FOR ALL THE SERVICE RECORDS I HAD TO ESTABLISH A HISTORY. THEY HAD THE OIL CHANGES THAT I DID FROM THE DEALER, ONE FROM A WELL KNOW AUTO MERCHANDISER AND BECAUSE I DID THE MOST RECENT ONE MYSELF, THE DEALER IS TELLING ME THAT THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT THAT ONE BECAUSE THERE IS NO DOCUMENTATION OF ME DOING IT AND HENCE THE VEHICLES POWER TRAIN WARRANTY WILL NOT BE HONORED. THE CAR IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD AND HAS 75000 MILES ON IT. NO INDICATION OF ANY ISSUES WERE PRESENT AT ANYTIME WITH THIS VEHICLE.

ABOUT 4-6 MONTHS AGO, MY CAR STARTED TO JOLT EVERY NOW AND AGAIN, WHILE DRIVING IT, BUT IT NEVER SHUT OFF. LAST WEEK, WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, THE CAR DIED WHEN I SHIFTED IT INTO DRIVE TO LEAVE. IT TOOK A WHILE TO TURN BACK ON, BUT DID START UP AGAIN. ON MY WAY HOME, IT SHUT OFF AGAIN WHILE IN MOTION. ONCE I GOT HOME, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT POPPED ON AND I DID NOT DRIVE IT AGAIN UNTIL THE NEXT DAY. I WENT TO WASH IT, AS I DO WEEKLY, AND FILL UP THE GAS TANK. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED OFF. THE NEXT MORNING, I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND THE CAR CUT OFF AGAIN WHILE IN MOTION. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO GET IT RESTARTED, I DROVE IT TO THE CLOSEST MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY. THEY ATTEMPTED TO LOOK AT THE CAR AND DIAGNOSE IT FOR THE GREATER PART OF THE DAY. THE MACHINE WAS READING A CAM SHAFT ISSUE; HOWEVER, WHEN THEY INSPECTED IT, THERE WAS NO ISSUE WITH IT. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS ISSUE WITH THE CHEVY EQUINOX SEVERAL TIMES AND THAT CHANGING THE INTAKE/OUTTAKE VALVES GIVES A TEMPORARY RESOLVE; HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM TYPICALLY COMES DOWN TO THE ENGINE/MOTOR HAVING TO BE REPLACED, WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY A $6000 REPAIR BILL, OR TAKE A COMPLETE LOSS ON THE CAR., BECAUSE METAL SHARDS AND OTHER THINGS GET TRAPPED IN THE ENGINE/MOTOR THAT CAN'T BE REMOVED. THEY DID REPLACE THE VALVES, WHICH COST ME $400+, TOLD ME TO KEEP DOING WHAT I DO, IN TERMS OF KEEPING MAINTENANCE UP, AND HOPE THAT SOMETHING IS DONE BEFORE THE ENGINE/MOTOR NEEDS REPLACING. I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR MY TRANSPORTATION AND THAT OF MY TWO CHILDREN (AGES 1 & 11). I CANNOT HAVE MY CAR STOP, IN THE MIDDLE OF ME DRIVING IT, AND HAVE THAT RESULT IN A FATAL LOSS OF ME AND/OR MY CHILDREN. A SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THAT MULTIPLE YEARS OF THIS MAKE/MODEL CAR HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND IT IS ALARMING THAT NO RECALL IS IN PLACE. THE CONSUMER IS BEING LEFT TO COVER THE COST OF SAFETY IN FAULTY VEHICLES.

I PARKED MY CAR ON MONDAY NIGHT AND HEARD A RATTLING NOISE AND THE ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS KNOCKING. I TURNED IT ON AND OFF AND IT STARTED AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY I GET IN TO TAKE MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN TO SCHOOL AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START. I CALLED THE DEALER AND HAD THE CAR TOWED AND THE DEALER TELLS ME THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE. THE VEHICLE HAS 58,352 MILES SO IT AS FAR I KNOW IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AS I HAVE LESS THAT 100,000 MILES AND ITS ONLY 3 YRS OLD SINCE I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. WELL GM WILL NOT COVER THE MOTOR BECAUSE I DIDN'T TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE OIL CHANGES DONE. SINCE THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF THE OIL CHANGES DESPITE THAT FACT THAT I DID THEM EVERY 3000 MILES AS RECOMMENDED THEY WILL NOT GIVE ME A NEW MOTOR YET I STILL HAVE TO PAY $510 A MONTH FOR A CAR THAT I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE. GRAY CHEVROLET IS THE DEALER THE CAR IS AT AND THEY ARE THE WORST. GM DOESN'T HONOR THEIR WARRANTIES AND SHOULD BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS. I WILL NEVER EVER BUY A GM VEHICLE EVER AGAIN. WHY WAS THERE NO LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD PRIOR? HOW DO I NEED A MOTOR OVER NIGHT WHEN I HAD NO PROBLEMS PREVIOUSLY? WHY IS THAT GM WILL NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY OR AT LEAST SEND SOMEONE TO THE DEALER TO INVESTIGATE? WHY WON'T GM AT LEAST CALL GRAY CHEVROLET TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED AS OPPOSED TO READING SOMETHING TO ME FROM A COMPUTER SCREEN? WHY WOULD THEY NOT TRY TO ASSIST THEIR CUSTOMERS? IM STRANDED WITH 2 KIDS AND NO ONE CARE. DON'T EVER BY ANY VEHICLE FROM GM!!!!!!!!

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AUTONATION CHEVROLET NORTH RICHLAND HILLS (7769 BOULEVARD 26, NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX 76180 (682) 214-2010) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FAULTY LEFT SOLENOID INTAKE. THE SOLENOID VALVE INTAKE WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED A MONTH LATER. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING THAT GENERATED MULTIPLE CODES. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF THE ACTUAL FAILURE OR REPAIRS THAT WERE NEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,476.

ON TWO (2) SEPARATE OCCASIONS MY VEHICLE HAS STOPPED DEAD IN THE ROADWAY WHILE DRIVING. I LOST ALL POWER STEERING, LIGHTS, RADIO ETC. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BOTH TIMES. THIS COULD BE DEADLY IF I AM ON A BUSY ROAD OR FREEWAY. I AM TERRIFIED FOR MY SAFETY, BUT ALSO FOR MY TWO YEAR OLD GRANDSON, FAMILY, FRIENDS AND ANYONE ELSE WHO COULD BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN. MY VEHICLE WAS LEASED JANUARY 19, 2015. I AM WAY UNDER ON MY MILES (2600) AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED BY ME WITH ZERO DAMAGE ANYWHERE. MY VEHICLE WAS IN THE DEALERSHIP FROM JUNE 29, 2015 THE FIRST TIME THE ENGINE STOPPED WHILE DRIVING. THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE FRO 3 DAYS. AT THAT TIME I WAS ADVISED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT MINE WAS THE THIRD VEHICLE IN THE LAST WEEK WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON JULY 6TH AFTER THE SECOND TIME IT STOPPED DEAD IN THE ROADWAY. I WAS CALLED ON AUGUST 12, 2015 THAT THE VEHICLE WAS READY FOR PICK UP AND THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE DEPT. STATES THEY HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE FOR A MERE 58 MILES OVER THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS. THE SERVICE MANAGER SUGGESTS I BUY OUT MY LEASE AND JUST SELL IT TO SOMEONE ELSE. OF COURSE THIS IS NOT AN OPTION FOR ME.
