I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious safety defect involving a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox that experienced a sudden and complete loss of engine power while the vehicle was in motion. While traveling approximately 50 mph in active traffic, the engine abruptly shut off and the vehicle immediately lost all ability to accelerate. The loss of propulsion was total and occurred without warning. There were no warning lights, alerts, or indicators of a low oil or engine condition prior to the failure. Moments before the shutdown, the engine began making an abnormal mechanical noise. A video was recorded during the incident while the vehicle was still operating in traffic. The recording captures the engine failure in real time, including the vehicle decelerating from approximately 50 mph to a complete stop as the engine shut down. I was able to coast into a breakdown lane and then into a nearby parking lot, narrowly avoiding a collision. A sudden loss of propulsion at this speed and in these conditions presents a severe and immediate safety risk to vehicle occupants and surrounding traffic. This vehicle has been regularly serviced by authorized Chevrolet dealerships and maintained according to the manufacturer’s recommended schedule. At no point was I advised that the vehicle required frequent manual oil checks between scheduled oil changes, nor did the vehicle provide any warning prior to engine shutdown. I routinely operate this vehicle at highway speeds and regularly transport my child. Had this failure occurred on a highway or in heavier traffic, the risk of serious injury or fatality would have been significant. The exact cause is UNKNOWN at this time. The vehicle is available for inspection, and I can provide maintenance records and video documentation upon request.

The 2.4L engine is experiencing significant issues, including power loss and rapid oil consumption. The power loss has been observed while driving on both expressways and city streets. The oil burning commenced less than a month after an oil change, resulting in an oil level of zero. This situation poses a risk of accidents and endangers the occupants of the vehicle. An independent service center has confirmed the problem. The center determined that a new engine is necessary as the issue cannot be resolved. There have been no inspections by manufacturers, law enforcement, or other relevant authorities. Additionally, there was no warning about the oil being low to the point of being absent from the engine. The code for the power failure, P0303, was obtained from the service center. It is imperative that this issue be addressed promptly. Either the engine should be recalled or the vehicle should be repaired. Otherwise, I will be compelled to purchase a new engine or a new car.

Dec 19, 2025

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - 2.4L engine failure. PCV system froze Dec 05 2025. Crankcase pressure increased and caused the rear main engine seal to fail, which inturn allowed all the engine oil to leak out. Due to oil starvation the timing chain components failed. Additional internal engine damage is possible, but not yet confirmed. Failed parts will be available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Engine failure while driving with no notice. Happened on a day with sub zero wind chill. Stalled vehicle poses a safety risk to occupants and other drivers. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? UNKNOWN Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? UNKNOWN Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? UNKNOWN

Twice the exhaust has leaked into the cabin to the point where it is very noticeable. It causes headaches and breathing problems. GM has known of this issue for several years and it has been reported several times. GM placed a bandaid on it knowing it would fail.

Nov 11, 2025

I have the ECOTEC 2.4 engine the engine has gone out and GM is stating car needs a new engine. At 10,000. Two different associates told me to get a new car before they even checked the car.

Nov 1, 2025 Crash

Driving on the highway, nothing unusual or out of the ordinary. Within a 30 second span of time, the car started making a horrible rattling sound, followed by a loud snap sound, then smoke, then I was off the road with oil pouring out of the bottom of the car. Towed home, car was dropped off at the Chevrolet dealership mechanic. As far as I can tell, it fits the description that others have had with this car, namely that some apparent oil consumption issue that never came up on warning lamps resulted in the catastrophic engine failure that nearly launched me off the highway. The vehicle is currently awaiting diagnostics from the mechanic, and I have yet to hear back from them over a week later. There were no warning lights of any sort, and the oil life meter said there was 38% oil life remaining before it would need an oil change. If I had known about this issue before I bought the car, there is a 0% chance I would have bought it.

My car began making a knocking noise and lost power. I was not expecting to be out of oil as I recently had my oil changed. This happened several times while traveling before I realized the engine was burning through oil. My solution has been temporary, frequently checking the oil level and adding oil after an estimated 500 miles. I do not take my vehicle on trips more than 30 minutes and recently rented a vehicle to attend a meeting. I spoke with the service department of Herb Chevrolet and was told my vehicle is not under recall, but what the issue has been found to be is a need to reseal or replace the pistons.

Jun 14, 2025

I have to constantly add oil.I have more frequent oil changes.Panel doesn’t display low oil .Mechanic & several others tell me these cars burn oil faster.Combustion of oil leading to excessive oil consumption & premature wear on engine After putting air in tires, the sensors have to be reset & they say I have to go to a dealer

Jun 10, 2025

The contact owned a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming 5 quarts of oil for every 2,000 miles driven. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where an oil consumption test was performed, and the dealer confirmed that the vehicle was experiencing an excessive oil consumption. Additionally, the contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and while driving, the engine made abnormal metallic and banging sounds. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the engine was replaced at the contact's expense. However, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the engine was replaced twice under warranty. The contact stated that the vehicle seemed to be repaired; however, the vehicle was involved in a crash and was totaled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

High Pressure fuel pump failure on engine block. car cuts off, engine light on. failed Emission test.

May 8, 2025

PVC port plugged during freezing weather caused excessive crankcase pressure causing the rear main seal to blow out resulting in the loss of engine oil. Went to 2 different repair shops who confirmed each other’s diagnosis. At minimal mileage for a 2017 year car, the engine had to be replaced at considerable cost. The car was continuously maintained by a Chevrolet dealership, with records to support that maintenance.

May 7, 2025

Rear mail oil leak Engine gone timing chain failure allowed the engine pistons to contact the engine valves thereby damaging the valves and pistons.

Apr 30, 2025

I was driving down the highway and as I was going up a hill my car made a loud noise and then shut down. I had to coast to the side of the highway. I was stranded on the side of the highway with my two year old for 3 hours while I waited for a tow truck. I had to have my car towed and it was confirmed that my engine had locked up. My car has 106,000K miles on it and has had all routine maintenance completed on it. There were no warning lights before this happened and the mechanics do not know why the engine locked up.

Apr 27, 2025

Engine oil consumption is bad to the point that it consumes 5 quarts of oil a week to the point that the engine seized from lack of oil and went into maintenance mode shutting down while driving leaving me stranded in the side of the road

Apr 22, 2025

Excessive oil consumption causing failed engine at 60k miles. This was regularly maintained.

Apr 15, 2025

Timing chain going bad. Vehicle burning oil excessively.

Mar 24, 2025

Driving to work, my car decided to die upon stopping at a stop light. I managed to get it to start again and coast to work, but upon reaching the parking lot, it died yet again. I allowed it to stay parked while at work, when leaving it seemed normal, mind you it hasn't made any noises. I went to leave; it died yet again at the stop sign. I just put a brand-new battery in it, so I knew that wasn't the issue. I took it maybe 200 feet down the road and it died again. This time, I noticed a bunch of oil on the ground. Since this traumatic event, I took it to my local dealership to have it diagnosed. They found that the timing chain and guide broke, and this pressure caused the seals to also blow. I spent $3,600 to fix those in hopes this would bring my car back to normal use. Unfortunately, there was more damage than expected and the bearings at the bottom of the engine went out, which the mechanic then explained to me would cause them to replace the pistons and other parts and it would be more feasible to get a new engine. They said this was due to the engine overconsuming oil and causing the oil levels to be much lower than they needed to be even with normal maintenance and tops offs in between routine oil changes. This could have caused an accident as when the vehicle would die, I had no time to get to a safe spot on the road. This did not cause any warning lights, notices, messages or signs that something was wrong. I have reached out to the dealership and GM for further assistance to look into this matter as the ECOtec engines have been known for this same issue in the 2013-2016 models but have refused to speak further about the 2017 to current models. GM customer service informed me that due to the engine stating it had too low oil, they were refusing to assist me in anyway.

Mar 7, 2025

EGR valve froze cause the rear main seal to blow, has timing chain fixes. Now having more issues again.

Mar 6, 2025

After very cold winter weather, car started to smell. PCV valve blew and car was seizing causing it to blow out the rear systems. It had spilled oil onto the garage floor and had a bad emissions smell. Dealership said they added 3 quarts of Oil and that within 30 minutes two quarts leaked out. No warning lights on dashboard, no affected cautions through the equinox app (which still shows that I have 80% of my oil still remaining). While driving the car started making a ticking sound during acceleration and a bad smell. I am now left with a $3700 bill. Numerous others have detailed exact experiences with their equinox after the last February, cold spell in Chicagoland. I was very fearful driving the car and my safety was compromised. The car was shaking, and the smell was pungent Right now my car is at the dealership so I do not have the invoice

Mar 2, 2025

When my car failed while driving to work, I had it towed to a repair facility. The technician reported that the rear main was leaking and the motor had no oil in it. I have always had the oil changed every 2000 miles. There was also engine metal in the oil filter. It was deemed that the motor was ruined. I was told by the technician that this was a common problem for this make/model of car. I researched and there are many of the same complaints. This does pose safety concerns and I wish for this to be addressed/recalled.

Oxygen sensor, catalytic system efficiency below threshold bank,o2 circuit low voltage, accelerator pedal position sensor 1-2 not plausible, invalid data received from engine control module, vvt timing solenoid, engine vvt timing solenoid, timing shaft bank 1, exhaust camshaft, intake performance camshaft up and down shift switch circuit left front wheel sensor circuit I have had to replace all this on my vehicle nothing was covered under extended warranty I bought car from drive time wanted to return it when they wouldn’t replace when shield mad me look for estimate and then told me I drove over 400miles and would take it back Bridgecrest financed me and car been in and out of shop since I got it also had to replace some but my gas peddle I still owe on this vehicle they wanted 20k still owe like 14k higher robbery I have contacted BBB this is fraud if you ask me also had to replace fuelrail pressure sensors

Feb 27, 2025

My vehicle had a pool of oil beneath it and a trail behind it due to a faulty PCV. I had it towed to the certified dealer and they told me it was a PCV valve issue, due to the cold temperatures, ice was able to accumulate and caused a pressure build up inside of the hose or something of the sort. With that being said, the pressure caused the seal to pop off and allowed for the oil to leak out and get all over the engine/parts within the engine. The dealership let me know they were aware and had correspondence about this particular issue. There was no sound prior to the decline of my engine, no indicator on the dash, and this issue can happen so quickly that there's no time to respond or reverse damage that was made. My engine no longer works and was told I would need to purchase a new one, despite the fact this issue could happen again with a new engine regardless of routine upkeep. Dealership confirmed the engine was damaged, the oil was depleted, and the PCV was to blame. There were no warning signs, it happened quite quickly, and I fear that if this incident didn't happen at night, my vehicle would have slowed or completely stopped at a rate that would have prevented other drivers from steering clear of me and harming themselves or me. Thankfully it wasn't a busy night. I was going 80km/hr and my vehicle slowed to barely 30 km/hr without being able to accelerate. At home, the engine shut down, and again a pool of oil was found before being towed to the certified dealership I had my routine inspection done at a few months prior. Vehicle previously register in Texas, now resides in Canada where incident occurred.

Feb 21, 2025

The Rear Main seal failed which ended up causing issues with the timing belt and required pistons to be replaced as well. The safety of the vehicle was at risk because it was spewing oil all over the place while I was driving which could cause the roads to be slick and cause others to crash. Let alone the oil spewing everyone could cause further damage to my own vehicle. The dealer confirmed there is a bulletin for this exact issue and also advised me that in my small local area there was 6 others in the past 3 weeks who had the exact same issue. Several others I know who have this vehicle also had it happen to them within the past few years. There was 0 indication of anything that something was wrong until it just happened all of the sudden. It cost $6500 to fix and GMC will take 0 responsibility for their own willful misconduct.

Feb 20, 2025

Timing chain broke guides and jumped timing which resulted in engine failure. There were no lights indicating a problem before. Engine had to be replaced by a service repair shop.

Feb 20, 2025

PCV valve got clogged and failed, i have an extended warranty and the extended warranty EXCLUDES this from any repairs if this is involved. Caused my Rear Main Seal to break and leak oil. Not drivable currently. Quoted 3200 on a repair. Purchased the vehicle less than 12 months ago.

Feb 19, 2025

My husband was driving our vehicle on his way to work on [XXX] very early in the morning. He was on the highway going 70 mph. While driving he noticed a tire pressure monitoring system warning come up. Shortly after the vehicle went into reduced power mode. He was able to exit the highway and get the vehicle stopped. Upon stopping the vehicle died. Upon getting out of the vehicle he noticed a large oil leak on the ground and coating the underside of the vehicle. Had this incident happened during a busier traffic hour the sudden drastic slow in speed could have resulted in an accident. There was also oil left on the roadway that could be a hazard to other drivers. We had the vehicle towed to our mechanic. He confirmed that the engine had blown and would need replaced. He informed us that this vehicle has a known oil overconsumption issue. GM has settled on a class action lawsuit involving this make and model for the 2010 to 2013 model years. There is also a class action lawsuit currently in process out of Missouri against GM for the model years 2014 to 2017. I contacted GM and was told there was no active recall on my vehicle. I inquired about help getting the issue resolved and was told they were unable to help due to the vehicle not being diagnosed at a GM dealership. O have contacted GM dealerships and am having a hard time finding one that is willing to work with me on getting this issue resolved. This vehicle never warned of low oils or oil pressure. The engine did not make any kind of noise to indicate an issue. There was nothing indication anything was wrong with the vehicle until the vehicle went into low power mode and the engine was blown. A police report was not filed and insurance has not been contacted due to no accident being caused by the incident. The vehicle is still with my independent mechanic as we try to figure out how to cover the cost of this very costly repair. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Feb 18, 2025

2/4/19 bulletin issued for PCV valve defect [XXX] bought car from dealer, was told nothing wrong with car [XXX] sold me a extended warranty to assure me the car would be protected [XXX] car wouldn’t start in driveway had it towed to Tarr Chevrolet. [XXX] warranty refused to fix car, seems they excluded the PCV valve from warranty. The PCV valve blew the rear seal, part of the power train which I have a lifetime warranty on. But since the PCV valve caused it , they didn’t cover that either. This repair cost me $2800.00. Living on social security that’s a lot of money. I have called Chevy, the dealer and the warranty co to no avail, I have read about all the class action suits. This is a very serious problem. The bulletin states below 0 temperatures can cause this, we live in Tennessee, we don’t have that kind of weather. The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 71 MPH, the engine lost power with the check engine and stability-track warning lights illuminated. The vehicle entered LIMP Mode. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to a local gas station. The contact approached the gas station, and the vehicle shut off. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where a diagnostic test was performed; however, the mechanic could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the PCV valve had frozen due to the cold weather. The contact was informed that the failure then pressurized the crankcase valve and blew the engine oil seal. The contact was also informed that the timing chain had failed and caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 68,000.

Two massive oil leaks experienced while driving during cold weather months. One two years ago (Feb 2023) and the other January 2025. Both instance caused by Rear Main Seal and led to mass oil loss while operating and vehicle almost shutting down on roadway. There appears to have been bulletins sent to dealers from GM on the matter but no indication to customers of the potential dangers.

Defective pcv valve system caused the rear main seal to blow out. Causing oil leak which made my engine stall while driving on interstate 95.

Jan 31, 2025

My 2017 Chevy Equinox, equipped with the 2.4L Ecotec engine, experienced a catastrophic failure due to a faulty PCV system. In cold weather, condensation caused the PCV valve to malfunction, leading to excessive pressure and ultimately blowing out the rear main seal. This issue has been well-documented in the 2010–2013 models, which were covered under a class-action lawsuit, but the same defect persists in later models, including mine, which are not covered. This design flaw creates a significant safety and financial burden for owners and needs further investigation. My car shut off several times while driving in heavy traffic. I was in the car with my 6 year old child taking him to school on a busy street. This could have been catastrophic. In addition, I was informed my engine is burning oil excessively which is also a known issue. The safety risk posed by the defect, readily know by service techs, is substantial, the lawsuits claim, given that an engine operating without sufficient oil could wear down and fail prematurely, even during the course of normal operation, due to friction. According to the lawsuits, General Motors, for its part, actively concealed from consumers that its Equinox and Terrain vehicles suffered from an oil consumption defect. Worse, the suits say, GM allegedly failed to offer vehicle owners and lessees any help by way of repairs or recalls. Oil leak caused by insufficient ventilation and excessive oil burning caused rear main seal and timing chain belts to fail. My oil warning systems never detected the low oil. Research has shown that this has been a known Chevy problem since 2017, with a recall being issued earlier on but no known recall now. Dealer has confirmed issues and also that the engine design is flawed and leads to oil burning excessively

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle suddenly went into LIMP Mode. The traction control, the stability-track warning lights, and several other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The contact stated that upon restarting the vehicle, the low oil pressure warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to The Race Car Factory, where it was diagnosed that the engine's rear main seal was blown. The mechanic determined that the rear main seal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer provided no further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000. The VIN was not available.

On 1/5/25, the rear main seal ruptured due to a known issue in the vehicle's PVC system, causing severe oil loss, potential catastrophic damage to the engine, loss of power, possible accident and/or injury. The problem was confirmed by a local Chevrolet dealer, with an estimated repair cost of $4000. The failure occurred without any vehicle warning lights activating.

I am having this same issue with my 2017 Equinox as stated in the below information. It currently only has 58390 miles. I have already paid over 700 to try and fix and now they are telling me it is going to be another $5040.00.I feel like this should be covered by the class action lawsuit. The lawsuits against General Motors allege that the 2.4-liter EcoTech engines found in model year 2010-2017 Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain SUVs burn excessive amounts of oil. The safety risk posed by the apparent defect is substantial, the lawsuits claim, given that an engine operating without sufficient oil could wear down and fail prematurely, even during the course of normal operation, due to friction. When I was exiting the expressway, my car suddenly stopped without any warning. I managed to restart it, but after driving just a few feet, it stalled again. I was able to restart it once more, but this time I could hear a knocking noise coming from the engine. I initially thought it couldn't need oil since I had an oil change just the previous week. I drove to a nearby gas station to check the oil level, and although the oil gauge indicated 91%, I found there was no oil in the engine. I added two quarts to get a few blocks to my destination. However, I soon noticed oil leaking out. I decided to have my car towed to a Chevy dealership, where I was informed that I had a blown rear main seal caused by a faulty PCV system. I was told that this situation was dangerous, especially since it occurred on the expressway. The repair cost over $3,000. I contacted GM to see if they could assist me with cost but was told only after I got the issue fixed they wouldsee what they could do. I've also noticed that many other 2017 Chevy Equinox owners have reported similar problems online. Could you please look into this?

Jan 21, 2025

114k miles and the PCV valve was collecting condensation which froze. This caused a build up of pressure and blew the rear main oil seal and timing chain. No warning, no dash lights, nothing. Oil life at 35% and over 1,000 miles before due for next oil change. Went from running fine to DEAD in less than 1/4 of a mile.

Jan 16, 2025

Oil leak caused by insufficient ventilation and excessive oil burning caused rear main seal and timing chain belts to fail. Oil warning systems were too late in warning about problem until engine stalled out and all oil was consumed, causing engine failure. No low oil warnings came up until minutes after the initial engine shutdown. Research has shown that this has been a known chevy problem since 2017, with a recall being issued earlier on but no known recall now. Dealer has confirmed issues and also that the engine design is flawed and leads to oil burning excessively

Jan 12, 2025

The PCV Valve froze last week causing pressure to build up and blew the rear seal. All the oil leaked out and caused a grinding noise and the vehicle shutoff on its own. This I have seen is an ongoing problem with the Chevy Equinox. I was quoted $3800 from the dealer to repair.

Our 2017 Chevy Equinox, engine 2.4l, is using excessive oil. Doing research it sounds like this is a known well known problem. what is Chevrolet doing to fix this issue?

Oct 24, 2024 Fire

Driving down a 4 lane busy highway. Going 65 when the car made a pop sound. We pulled over. Car caught on fire 5 mins after we were out

Sep 27, 2024

Had car over 5 years from 11/2019 to current and had no issues at all. No check engine lights, nothing, and kept up on all routine maintenance. Car started up just fine drove on interstate from about 10 miles came to my exit and vehicle turned off and tried to restart itself. Car never started again. After getting it towed home replaced the started and that wasn’t the issue towed it again to Firestone they could tell me what the problem was because they don’t do engine work. Finally took it to a Chevy dealership who stated the timing chain broke and we need a whole engine replacement for $9600. Now we are stuck without a vehicle because of know issues GM AND Chevy have been aware of.

Car is 7 years old and only 65,900 miles (purchased new and oil changed every 4000 mi) when timing chain noise started - approx April 2024. Chevy dealer in area and independent mechanic could not find the issue and diagnosed as exhaust sound though Chevy has known issues like this with 4 cylinder engines). Car was traded Aug 2024 (has since been sent to auction due to unknown engine damage) and discovered upon trade it had catastrophic engine failure. For months car was driven at times with small children when engine could have seized up and caused a crash. No engine lights or indication of an issue other than diesel engine sound when car was running.

I bought my 2017 Chevy equinox around October or November of 2018. Since owning this car I have had nothing but problems with the oil. The oil had been burning at such an excessive rate that GM finally stated they would need to replace the engine! I have continued to change the oil before it need to be changed due to it burning so quickly. After the engine was replaced I informed GM of the loud noises and informed them 3 weeks after they replaced everything that the oil was again empty! They are now ignoring me and won’t do anything further! I am a single mother of 3 kids trying to make ends meet and I bought a car they knew and have known has oil consumption issues which has caused my car to have major issues. The car randomly can to a full stop while I was driving and I am so lucky I wasn’t going 80 miles an hour because it would of killed me all because the car had burned the oil just 2 weeks after an oil change! GM continues to ignore me and will not replace the car or fix anything! I started having issues in August of 2019 and they replaced the engine on jul 14 2022 and I am certain this car is not going to make it much longer it has ac and heat problems as well again all started after replacement and still have oil issues

On 2-11-24 a light came on about system reset plus speed reduced to 20. I drove home 4 miles. Called Chevy Corp. Told needs to be checked. Dealership said if drivable come in.Light was safety to get off Rd or to garage. Timing chain slipped and chewed up teeth spreading metal everywhere and killed motor. No warning. It's a known prob with Equinox as I have seen class action lawsuits. Advisor even said need another lawsuit to solve it. Tried going thru insurance but advisor said normal wear and tear. Chevy dealership or corp will not help or give me a rental car. $10300 to get a refurbished motor and hope it doesn't happen again. Same car burns oil had sensor issues on block and every 1-2 years battery dies. Paid 65 to replace it one time under warranty. Timing chain doesn't slip they break to stop car. Advisor says a few mechanical issues caused it. To me it shouldn't do that if made rt. I could have been in an accident if on highway. Insurance won't cover under comp part of policy yet if hit and totaled it's paid.A diff garage said belt or chain shouldn't need replacement until 100k miles. I only have 77k.

I am writing to address a critical issue involving my 2017 Chevrolet vehicle, which poses a significant safety hazard. I purchased this car from Faulkner Subaru in Bethlehem in 2022. The specific component failure relates to the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system, particularly the lack of a traditional PCV valve and the presence of a fixed orifice vacuum port in the intake manifold. This component is available for inspection upon request. The safety of myself, my passengers, and other road users was compromised due to the sudden and significant oil leakage caused by the malfunctioning PCV system. This not only endangered our safety but also posed a serious risk to others on the road. While the problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center, it is a well-documented issue with ongoing litigation against Chevrolet. However, there are currently no active recalls addressing the problem. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The incident occurred suddenly while driving, with the strong smell of burning oil and subsequent oil leakage being the first indications of a problem. Your immediate attention to this matter and intervention on behalf of affected consumers is crucial. I urge Chevrolet to address this safety concern through a formal safety recall and to take responsibility for rectifying this manufacturing defect.

While I was driving the rear main seal went out and I lost all my oil. Luckily I was close to home, could have blown my motor. This is a 1500.00 to a 2500.00 fix. This happened around feb.26 2024 and my car is still sitting I'm my drive until I can save up the money to fix it. Also the few places I have called around to fix it have had other equinoxes in for the same thind,22 that I know of.

I was driving when my car started knocking. I pulled over on the highway and noticed oil all over the undercarriage of the vehicle. I immediately drove to the dealership and had the mechanics take a look. They came back and said, "The rear main seal was leaking due to a plugged PCV port that froze because of the cold weather. This caused high crankcase pressure to build, which blew out the rear main seal." Looking online, I found that this appears to be a common problem. The dealership said they could fix it by drilling the hole in the PCV port bigger, but there is currently no recall on this issue. Just to replace the seal, they are charging $2500, with an additional few hundred dollars to enlarge the PCV port. Thankfully, I was able to pull over and get it to the dealership. I can only imagine how bad things could have been if I hadn't been in a relatively safe spot.

I was driving my vehicle when it started putting at a red light. I was close to my place of employment so I drove it the few blocks there and parked it. When I went to start it on my lunch break I heard a bunch of rattling under the hood and it wouldn’t drive. I checked the oil and realized All of the oil had leaked out.

My son was driving and all of a sudden the check engine light came on, it got really loud and stalled out while he was driving. Luckily he was on a road with a low speed limit. If this had happened on the highway it could have been extremely dangerous. He is a 16 year old new driver. We took it in and were told the rear main seal blew and we need a new engine. Apparently this is a know issue with this car. We are now in the process of installing a new engine on a car we have taken very good care of with less than 100,000 miles and still has a car payment. There were no prior warnings and the issue was confirmed by the dealer.

No problems with car Oil life says 19% told by chevey dealership service department don't have to change oil till 0% Filled up car at gas pump and pulled away In middle of turning reduce power alarm, traction control and check engine yell at me I was just able to get the car into a parking spot Take car to chevey dealership service department and they said It is turning of too easy meaning the timing chain slipped and there is NO oils on the dip stick even though it was just there to get oil change at 6K and oil life reader say 19% No sound, No hard turn over, No shifting issues I was glad I wasnt on the highway for it to slipped without warning while driving

Car started to leak oil, took it for repair was told it has a pcv valve issue, that can lead to main seal failure. This is a 13 hour repair, at a cost of approximately $2500.00 This issue can happen again, and especially in cold weather. So even if you get it repaired this pcv/valve issue can cause main seal failure again. From Mechanic Report: •Finding: .Other engine oil leak issue •Recommendation: See technician notes below •Technician's Notes: Rear main seal leaking. Lower oil pan very likely leaking as well. PCV system failing caused Excessive engine pressure which in turn caused rear main to fail. There is a GM TSB specifically for this issue. Without repairing PCV, seals will fail again. Repairing PCV system will require intake and valve cover removal. •Full recommendation: •-Remove valve cover and clean pcv passages •-Remove intake, replace pcv valve, and clean pcv passages. •-Replace rear main seal •-Replace oil pan seal My vehicle mileage is Odometer 68,201mi so I am out of the warranty window.

Took the vehicle in due to poor function to be addressed and the vehicle was found to have no oil in the engine. 5 quarts of oil was just placed in the engine at the beginning of the week and was told that the engine is burning oil very badly. This is very concerning as I am seeing that other people are having this exact issue, often while driving on the highway. We are only driving this vehicle if absolutely necessary and do not have the money to replace the engine and the pistons. We have been diligent with frequent oil changes but we cannot keep pouring oil in this vehicle only for it to be gone within days or hours. This is a huge safety risk and could cause injury or death to myself, my children or others on the road. The check engine light came on after the oil was added. Took to our mechanic and they confirmed that the entire engine or at least all the pistons will need to be replaced in order to make this vehicle safe for driving. Called General Motors about this issue and was informed this very vehicle is in class-action lawsuit for the very same thing my vehicle is experiencing and that a recall should be coming out, but no one knows when this recall will come out. This is a common problem seen with the equinoxes and it needs to be fixed by the dealer or General Motors.

Cold weather here apparently caused the rear main seal to blow out and leak all of my oil out of the vehicle very quickly. Now I’m left with a car that will not run, extended warranty will not cover. I’ve read MANY stories of the same exact thing happening to equinoxes. If this is so common why is it not covered? I have 2 small children 6 and under and work full time. I cannot afford a new vehicle. So disappointing this is such a common problem yet not covered at all leaving people without a vehicle.

The PCV System froze causing the rear main seal to blow on my 2017 Chevrolet Equinox Premier. No prior warnings such as check engine light of any kind. In a matter of one minute I was driving 65 miles an hour on the highway to a warning popping up on my LCD screen stating "engine oil pressure low - shut down engine now". Didn't even have an opportunity to shut it down, within 30 seconds of that message the car shut itself down. This could have caused injury to myself and others but i was able to get to shoulder before total engine failure. This happened after several days of below 0 temperatures, snow and ice.

While in rush hour traffic in temperatures at 5 degrees or lower my car came up with a warning light of "Engine Power Reduced" as I proceeded to cross over to the right lane of the highway in order to pull onto the shoulder of the road the car lost all engine power. The car was towed to a Chevy dealer for assessment of "rear seal blown causing oil leak and ruining the engine causing needed replacement" My safety & that of other vehicles around me were in danger from the engine power going from 55 to 0 in moments in rush hour traffic in extreme temperatures. The car was assessed by the repair shop & our auto insurance.

Jan 23, 2024

Our temperature recently dropped below zero temps. Our PCV system froze which caused an obstruction. This caused the crankcase to pressurize blowing out the seals, losing all oil, and catastrophic engine failure. Our safety could have been impacted as we live in a rural community with subzero temps. Being stranded without service on a phone or vehicle to stay warm could have catastrophic consequences on human life. Losing engine power on a busy road could lead to a crash etc. The problem was confirmed by the dealer. This is a known issue in 2.4L engines as seen in bulletin 14882 from March 2015. The vehicle was inspected by the GM dealership in our town who confirmed this was the issue. There was no warning prior to the failure- the incident happened while driving home from work- at the time of failure the stabiltrak and reduced engine power came on.

There was no warning light illuminated. The contact's daughter inspected the vehicle and discovered that there was no oil in the engine on the dipstick. The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve was clogged due to moisture buildup, which caused the crank case to fail. The dealer was notified of the failure and provided an estimate for a new engine. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

On 12/31/23, my 2017 Chevrolet Equinox burst into flames in the driveway. I had not driven it in three weeks due to a medical problem, so my husband cranked up the car and idled briefly to keep the battery operational. About 15 minutes after he exited the SUV, it caught fire. I have seen recalls for other model years that describe the Equinox's excessive oil consumption, which can lead to engine fires and other hazards. Although there is no recall on the 2017 model, those complaints are consistent with my experience. The insurance company has declared the car a total loss.

Sep 26, 2023

This vehicle continues to burn oil and the engine light does not turn on when the vehicle is low on oil. I have had this car for 4 years and it has been an issue where when I take it in for oil change there is no oil left in engine. Vehicles are not supposed to burn oil. I have been told it is an internal engine issue and that this is a known problem from this vehicle by the Chevy dealership. It is unsafe for anyone to be traveling without oil in their vehicle and not have any type of alert to know it is low. I could break down at anytime and it would be a serious cost to me to have this repaired even though it is a “known issue“ with Chevy equinox.

2017 Chevrolet Equinox 80,000 miles always serviced, I have proof Purchased 10/26/2016 New 12/16/2022 I had the vehicle serviced @ Walser Polar Chevrolet White Bear Lake, MN just like I have since I purchased it new. Oil & Transmission fluid changed, new tires, wheel alignment, rear brake pads and rotors, $2,045.00. No mention of a class action lawsuit for Frozen PCV valve, causing the rear main seal to blowout. GM has known about this problem for years and has done nothing to rectify it. I brought my vehicle into Walser Polar Chevrolet for service as always trusting I would leave having a safe ride in the deadly winter weather conditions, that was not the case. They knew there was an Issue with this Make & Model, I should have been notified regarding the freezing of the PCV valve and rear engine seal blowing out. Someone is going to DIE because of this, they will break down in subzero temperatures and freeze to death. 12/24/2022 at 6:45 am on Christmas eve. I had no warning whatsoever there was a problem until the Equinox started to sputter, the engine light came on and a few minutes later the engine shut down. The PCV valve froze causing the rear main seal to blowout, the engine was completely destroyed. $9,700 estimated repair bill. Thank God, I made it to White Bear Ave and a police officer showed up, it was 11 degrees below zero out. AAA had a 299-minute estimated wait. I know of 3 other people this has happened to last Month and there were 3 others vehicles that weekend on their lot with the same issue, I was told this by management. I sold it to Walser Polar Chevrolet White Bear Lake, MN 12/30/2022 for $4,000.00 that’s all they were willing to offer. After paying $2,045 on 12/16/2022 I ended up with $1,965.00. My engine failed. It's available for inspection upon request. The engine stalled in the middle of high traffic. I called GM customer care and explained to them what happened. They told me to take it to a GM dealership for diagnosis, (it was already diagnosed by a major company). The dealership confirmed a broken timing chain and bent valves. They also said that it was $12,000 to repair and that GM would only cover $1,200 since its out of drive train warranty. They request that I put down $8,657 before they could order a new engine. The codes the car gave were P0016, P0017, P228D, P0089, and P0341.

Mar 16, 2023

The engine cracked during the negative degree weather during Christmas Eve and the spark plugs were broken in half also as a result to this. Not sure if it is from the oil change that was done or if it was from the weather. But as a result the vehicle has been sitting due to this terrible mishap. I did get regular oil changes so I feel that this is not something that should have happen. But when the vehicle was towed to Firestone they stated it was a common situation with the Chevy Equinox. I am totally disappointed because I have a great vehicle but it is not of use to me with a crack seal on the engine due to this malfunction.

My 2017 equinox which I purchased at this dealership starting burning excessive oil and has bad piston rings, they quoted me a $9500 for engine... I had those issues at 97500 miles and the dealership failed to properly inspect and fix the rings even though this motor was known for these issues. The failed piston rings should have been fixed when my vehicle was covered under warranty at approx 97,500 miles! My equinox has approx 100,600 miles on it currently and has sat for 1.5 months. So 600 miles past the warranty and now it needs a new engine? It needs a new engine because the service department knowingly failed to thoroughly fix my car when I had it in at 97,500 miles.

Cold evening, short drive required. Started car with remote, cleared remaining ice and snow (uneventful) First portion of trip uneventful - engine failed on return trip. Fortunate to be alive as car “suddenly” began making clatter from engine. No indications of trouble by any display or warning features of vehicle. Car began lurching - icy roads - 4 degrees outside temperature Dealership and repair work performed by Mills Chevrolet - 6600 Elmore Ave., Davenport, Iowa (563) 345-5000 Paperwork (handwritten technician’s notes on documents) provide that dealership profited more than $4,000 for “core” replacement engine. GM manufactured and provided vehicles with 2.4 liter Ecotec engines which suffered one class action law suit, essentially, ignoring future generation production and sales to end users, by continuing to manufacture and provide such vehicles to their dealership representatives. (Mills Chevrolet, Davenport, Iowa) dealership sold this vehicle (as well as others) with this KNOWN DEFECTIVE ENGINE. Sold again as a used car and profited from that sale - and profited from the repairs which became necessary as a result of failure of their KNOWN DEFECTIVE ENGINE. GM should be put on notice that their product is defective and dangerous (and costly) to operate. And, as a direct result of their negligence, as it relates to their known engine dilemma and their reluctance to honor a positive sales position with potential sales customers - in my opinion, it is a matter of time before someone is hurt dramatically or killed, and, as a direct result of GM and their representatives continuing negligence have caused harm to thousands of reported customers, who have suffered IDENTICAL situations of engine failure. GM should be held accountable for their continued negligence and hidden or under reported operating costs and concerns with the vehicles which have the suspect 2.4 liter Ecotec engine installed in them.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle made abnormal rattling sounds that progressively became louder. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact pulled into a parking lot and turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that she lifted the hood to inspect the vehicle but could not determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated upon restarting the vehicle, the message "Oil Pressure Low. Turn Engine Off" was displayed. A towing agent informed the contact that oil had leaked significantly underneath the vehicle while she was driving. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rear main seal was blown out, causing the engine oil leak. The dealer informed the contact that the cold weather had frozen the PCV, which became cluttered and blew out, causing the rear main seal to be blown. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened; however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 65,550.

Rear Main engine seal failure due to blocked PCV system on 2.4 Liter DOHC. There is no GM maintenance schedule that informs the vehicle owner that this need regular maintenance in cold climate exposure. A 2015 GM Technical Service Bulletin, TSP 14882 refers to excess water/oil in PCV and a 2019 GM Diagnostic Bulletin, TIP 19-NA-021 refer to oil leak from rear of engine in exposure to cols weather. This is an obvious GM known issue with the PCV system that they have done nothing about and cost the vehicle owner a large repair bill. Mine was around $3900. No guarantee after the repair that this will remedy the situation from occurring again.

I am a recent 2017 Equinox owner with a 2.4L Ecotec engine. I purchased the vehicle 9 months ago and have put less than 30k miles on it since owning the vehicle. On Tuesday, 1.31.23, while driving to a work appointment on a busy interstate my equinox seemed to have a power failure and started making a noise. I proceeded to move toward the shoulder of the highway and before I could get to the shoulder, a warning light came on that there was low oil pressure, to stop the vehicle. Before I could safely get all the way to the shoulder, the car shut off and the engine ceased. From the time my vehicle started making noises, to it ceasing on that 4-degree weather day, was bout 6 seconds. The mechanic states the engine is ceased and that it would be about 10k for a remanufactured engine installed. No guarantees that this would not happen in the future as this is a manufacturer's defect in the size of the PCV system that is on vehicles with this motor, the 2.4L ecotec . The mechanic states that the rear engine seal has failed. This was caused by the defective PCV valve being too small which causes excessive pressure to build up and the rear main engine seal to fail. This is a known issue for vernal motors. There are literal thousands of people in this same situation, and I could have been killed by oncoming traffic had I not been able to get to the shoulder all the way. I have documents relating to this system failure and copies of the bulletins that gm has issued their dealerships, however the file is too large to attach here. Please email me for documentation.

My son was driving my 2017 Equinox with only 68,861 miles and the vehicle just stopped on him in the roadway. The dealership technician found the rear main seal blew out. The technician thinks it was likely caused by the pcv port getting clogged. The engine oil was changed less than 2 months before this occurred. The dealership is saying that due to the engine oil running very low there is internal engine damage and is recommending a complete engine replacement. My son said the vehicle just stopped without warning and went dead as he was exiting the highway, this incident could have had dire (or fatal) consequences if the vehicle would have just stopped on the highway.

I get my oil changed every 2-3 months. This morning it decided to jolt and all the lights flicker while my daughter was getting out of the car. She had one foot out. I had it towed and was told it is a blown rear main seal and they are unsure of the extent of the damage at the auto shop I took it too, and was told it might have affected my engine. That I had to have it towed to a Chevy dealership for further evaluation and it was to extensive for them to do where I had it towed. I was told it was the 3rd car this morning that they received with this issue. All Equinox's. I was never given any notification on my dashboard that this there was an issue, till it was happening. I DO NOT have any leaks where I park my car on a daily basis. The extent of damage so far is at least $2500. I am out of pocket just for towing $260. If it is an engine problem, I will be out up to $8000. I still owe on this car thanks to inflation. Thankfully no one was parked in front of my car today or a kid walking in front of it.

I own a 2017 Chevy Equinox. My husband and I are the only owners of it. It has just over 100,000 miles. Yesterday, February 1, 2023, I started my vehicle 15 minutes before I packed my 1 year old and 3 year old into the vehicle so I could take them to daycare and I could go to work. We drove down US HWY 8 (55 mph speed limit), onto County Road S to the kids' daycare. When I pulled into the parking stall, I smelled an oder of what I thought was gas. Looked at my gages and nothing was "wrong" - jumped out, & inspected around under the gas tank to see if it was leaking. It wasn't, so I thought maybe I drove over someone else's leak that I couldn't see. I took my kids out, brought them into daycare and left my vehicle running. When I came out, the smell was even stronger. I started to back up and noticed what looked like an oil pile. I then questioned if it was there prior and I didn't notice. I pulled over in the parking lot and saw it was leaking under the front end. I then parked it and shut the vehicle off. It was -15 out that morning. Not a single light came on my vehicle indicating that something was wrong. I checked my oil to see how much I had lost and it wasn't even registering on the dipstick. Empty. My husband towed it later that evening. Rear main seal blowout from frozen PVC. This is very concerning to me as it must have started to leak when I was driving and there was never a low oil indicator, overheating, engine light no oil was in my yard or driveway. And there wasn't enough oil in the daycare parking lot to have it be empty. This vehicle could has easily caused an accident to myself, my 1 year old and my 3 year old if it would have stalled going down the highway. It could have also caused an accident to another vehicle. I'm very lucky to have noticed where I did, but something should really be addressed with this. Not to mention we could have easily have been stranded out of town in extreme temperatures - especially for children.

I had noticing a faint smell of diesel type chemical gas off/on at times when driving the prior week but thought it was other cars as it was noticed when stopped. Few days ago had saw a very small drip in the driveway. Could not see anything specifically and looked more like gas color. Had just had oil changed the month before at the Chevy dealership and everything looked good. Drove to work and noticed a very hot smell once parked. Smelled like chemicals and something burning. Could see something dripping but not excessive. Was able to make it home. No lights showing issues or overheating. Immediately saw large amounts of oil leaking from the car and very hot smell. Checked and little to no oil in the car. Immediately went to dealership and the knew what was wrong without even seeing it. PVC system frozen causing excessive crankcase pressure and failure of rear seal. 70,760 miles. They said they have seen numerous cases of this and GM knows it’s a problem. Gm refused to cover any of the cost. Had to pay $2,656 to have this fixed. Rear seal replaced along with cleaning intake ports, needed to replace cooling system thermostat also. Dealership even feels that this should be a recall and to hold onto any paperwork in hopes that this company will realize this is a big issue in cold weather. Dealership said by the time I had smelled anything the damage was already going on. Hopefully no other issues with the engine. Still smelling chemicals/hot but they said it the extra oil that was spilled out still burning off and should improve in a few days. They said it should be ok now but to let them know right away if anything is off.

on december 23 2022 i was driving home, there was a loud sound coming from engine, causing an engine oil leak, vehicle was towed to local dealer, diagnost PCV valve was frozen and clogged, causing pressure inside engine, i was informed that the engine was destroyed, and needed to be replaced, there was no warning light before this happen, temperature in chicagoland was 30 below zero, i had to wait 2 hours for tow truck, i have an extended warranty and they dont want to cover for this repair, dealer shop is asking $7500 dollars for new engine, is not fair i only had this vehicle for 5 months,

My PVC pipe in my engine unbeknownst to be me froze which caused pressure build up in the my crank case, which caused my real seal to blow and completely drain all my oil from my engine and seized my engine while I was driving at 70mph. This is a known issue with these vehicles as I have come across 3 other people who have had this issue. GM would not do anything for me and would not look further into the issue for me.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving approximately 20 MPH, there was a loud booming sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. During the failure, the power steering and power brakes became inoperable. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the PCV valve was frozen and clogged, causing pressure inside engine crankcase. Due to the failure, the rear main seal became deformed, causing an engine oil leak. The contact was informed that the engine was destroyed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,000.

The exhaust is coming into the cab. Was told that Chevy is allowed to kill people slowly with carbon dioxide poisoning. Also was told NHTSA is paid by Chevy to keep the information of the exhaust issue under wrapps. I understand killing babies is no crime in the liberal world but I am not an ugly liberal.

Jan 6, 2023

The engine failed while I was on the road traveling with my children. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and it has been confirmed with an engine compression test that all 4 cylinders are failing. I did not receive any warning lights and had the vehicle tested.

Jan 1, 2023

The rear main seal on the vehicle broke and dumped oil onto the road. The vehicle instantly stopped being able to accelerate, but no engine lights came on. My safety was put at risk as I was on a main county road in heavy traffic. Luckily, I was able to pull into a parking lot, but had it happened five minutes later, I would have been stranded on the side of the interstate. Prior to this incident, my vehicle has been in near mint condition and has regularly been serviced for upkeep. At the time of the repair, there were other cars of the same model with this issue in the repair shop. It left me without a vehicle for five days, and cost just south of $1,300. For a vehicle of this age, milage, and condition to have this kind of mechanical error is not acceptable, especially knowing it is a common issue with this model. General Motors should issue a recall on this as it has the potential to leave someone in a very dangerous situation.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power four times within 15 miles. The vehicle failed to restart after the fourth time and was towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed that the timing chain and camshaft were faulty, and there was no oil in the engine. The mechanic informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.

I arrived at my workplace. Was there for about an hour, I then went outside to grab something from my vehicle and noticed that I was leaking oil. After further inspection, I realized that I no longer had oil in my vehicle. I had it towed to my service station. After looking at it they called me and said that the PCV had gotten clogged with ice, therefore causing pressure buildup and blowing out the rear main seal. There were no warning lights whatsoever of this problem. I am just happy that I wasn't on the highway or long drive, because this would have left me stranded or worse causing an accident. From doing research online, this seems to be an issue that GM is aware of and refuses to make right. They had a recall for this exact issue for model years 2010-2014 but now are refusing to issue one for later years, even though the same engine style and PCV placement are the same. Not telling their customers about this potential serious issue is almost criminal and then not standing behind their product with either a recall or reimbursement of cost of repairing is ridiculous.

Loss of engine oil due to Frozen PCV when driven in subzero blowing out rear main seal this is a common problem and design defect known by GM can cause complete engine failure and safety related issues. I have yet to have this repaired but I assume the price will be substantial

Additionally, the contact noticed a puddle of oil in the driveway and there was no oil on the dipstick upon inspection. The contact stated that upon inspecting the vehicle he determined that the Positive Crankcase Valve (PCV) had frozen, and the engine rear main seal was busted. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in any recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 97,400.

I have approximately 79000 miles on my [XXX] 2017 Equinox 2.4 SUV. I have 2 complaints. One is the blower for the heater works intermittently. The dealer claims it was the cabin air filter but I am not sure. There are a lot of reports on the internet claiming a melted plug causes this problem. The second complaint is the dealer claims the vent pipe for the PCV valve has condensation that froze and if I don't pay 764.00 to have it cleaned out the rear main oil seal will blow out and I will loose all the engine oil. I have also seen many reports of this happening on the internet. Has anyone investigated this and what was the results of the investigation? Should a car be sold in the northern states that can have the rear seal blow out just because the temperature is below freezing? INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Rear main engine seal failed which was confirmed by the Chevy dealer. Vehicle had leaked massive amount of oil in driveway which was only noticed after wife drove car to work. Next day, vehicle needed 4 1/2 quarts of oil to register on dipstick and oil visibly dripping from engine approx. 2 drops per second. Red oil pressure light never cam on. Engine light was on for 1 week prior with error codes P0013 and P0014. Vehicle has 79k miles, no towing, and was 6 weeks out of 6 year warranty. The oil leak failure could have easily caused engine damage and left my wife broken down on the freeway. Dealer originally quoted $2600 for both repairs and dropped their quote to $2000. I believe the seal failure to be either design and/or manufacturing defect. I am greatly disappointed in GM for lack of quality control and not standing behind their products.

I was driving when the engine started to slow and eventually stopped running. The check engine light was on for approximately 2 days prior to incident. The vehicle was brought to auto shop where they determined there was an oil consumption issue with the vehicle, and ultimately the engine would need to be replaced. The safety of myself and my 3 children, infant and two toddlers were put at risk. Having been stranded needing to wait for a ride to bring us home.

Main rear seal blew and upon towing to Dealer they said they had 3 other equinox vehicles there all done around 130000 miles and all the same year - low oil light never appeared - Car just stopped during winter season and I am 72 years and in the country , with no heat waiting for AAA - Problem of not getting oil light low was never explained but rear main seal was fixed - Upon completing repairs a check engine light remains -Car drove fine after the fix and continues to drive fine but check engine light remains

We are experiencing excessive oil consumption problems with our 2017 Chevy Equinox that has a 2.4-liter Ecotec engine. We believe that the Engine replacements may be covered by a settlement so long as they can be traced directly to excessive oil consumption caused by defective piston rings. Can you please provide information as to where to go to pursue our reimbursement? The engine knocked due to there being low oil and not realizing the defect in the engine. There were no warning lights or an indication that there was a problem until the engine made noise. The issue started in May of 2022 and we did a repair on it that cost $2468.00, however, that repair did not fix the problem and now it is going to a dealership for another repair for the same issue.

Per Mechanic my engine is burning through oil. When I went in for an oil change I was told I only had 1 quart left. I was informed this was a common issue with these engines at this time.

Sep 29, 2022

Driving my 2017 equinox and the engine started making noise, we checked the oil and it was good. The car has 113,000 miles on it, and the oil life has 34% left. The next day I get in it to drive away after being at the hospital and a warning comes on "Engine Power is Reduced" the car is sputtering and shuts off. The car had to be towed and they tell me my engine is with out oil and now the engine has to be replaced. NO warning, NO lights, and NO leaks. Now what Chevy?

Jul 28, 2022

Driving down the road I started experiencing very strange engine noises with no warning lights or other indications. When I arrived home I found that the dipstick showed no engine oil. Gauges showed no issue and engine oil life still showed well over 50% (I believe there were about 2600 miles since the oil change). I took it to the dealer and they indicated they could not find any source of oil leak, changed the oil and asked me to stop in at 1K miles to investigate. When we finally did have it checked the advised that pistons and rings needed to be replaced as well as timing components. Then I read online about significant oil consumption issues with this engine AND that there can be a sudden loss of oil causing the engine to seize up. This can cause the wheels to lock up and create a dangerous situation. The engine is now using about 2Qts per 1,000 miles but the gauges are still showing normal.

The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle continued running but failed to exceed 15 MPH. The contact took back roads to her home and then later drove to a dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed and it was determined that the ECO switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle back to the same dealer two more times however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.

Rear main seal blew out due to known (and recalled in previous years) fault with the PCV valve. The check engine light never came on and neither did the oil light when there was no oil left due to the seal blowing out. This incident caused damage to crucial engine parts including the transmission.

Chevy is already well aware there is a prominent issue with timing chains on their equinox model and refuses to acknowledge or recall the issue. This is the second major repair I am needing to my vehicle in just barely over 1 year. Both the timing chain and the rear main seal need repairs in approx 1 years time. Again, these are known issues Chevy refuses to acknowledge that is costing many customers thousands of dollars.

The contact’s daughter owns a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, his daughter noticed that oil was leaking underneath the vehicle. The contact stated that he checked the oil level of the vehicle and noticed that the vehicle was low on oil. The contact added 3 quarts of oil to the engine. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving 50-55 MPH, the vehicle started making abnormal sounds. The contact’s daughter veered to the side of the road. The contact met his daughter and checked the oil level. The contact noticed that the oil level was 2 quarts low and topped off the oil; however, the failure reoccurred the following day and the vehicle was jerking. The warning message “Reduced Power” was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the PCV valve had caused a rear main seal failure, which damaged the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and the contact inquired why his daughter’s vehicle was not included in GM Technical Service Bulletin No.: 14882 but the manufacturer referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. Excessive oil consumption. My car started burning oil even though I get frequent oil changes and now my engine is blown.

Yesterday, my son noticed that his 2017 Chevy Equinox LX four-cylinder was not accelerating as much. He purchased this vehicle only one year ago. It is a five-year-old vehicle with not many miles on it. The oil was just changed in November 2021. He only drives 8 miles to and from work. While stopped at a light or stop sign yesterday, my son's SUV would "putt-putt" or shut off completely. There was a strong smell of oil coming from the air vents and filling the SUV. When my son pulled over to park, he decided to check it out. From underneath the vehicle, where the transmission is located, there was a huge puddle of oil on the ground. A leak between the oil pan and transmission was discovered when my son took his car to his mechanic. It shouldn't be like this. I checked if there were any recalls. For 2017, I did not find any under the VIN number, however, there were quite a few complaints from customers about the same issue. Is there anything my son should do? He needs the car for work.

My 2017 equinox started sounding and running rough. It lost power and engine lights came on. Car died. Tried to drive it to dealership to get looked at and it continued to lose power and ended up having to tow it to dealership. They finally found the problem and said the timing belt stretched, causing all 16 valves to hit the pistons, bending all 16 valves. Only 73,000 miles on vehicle. Power train warranty expired at 60,000 miles (naturally) and will cost us $5500 to have fixed. My husband and i have had Chevrolet all our lives and never am issue like this. I feel this is a safety issue because this could have left me stranded on the side of the road in bitter cold weather. I feel it is a manufacturing defect that caused the issue and it should be covered by a power train warranty lasting longer than 60,000 miles!

Jan 16, 2022

My 2017 Chevy Equinox’s engine got ruined because of no oil. It’s impossible for no oil because I took it to the dealership for an oil change two months ago (November 12, 2021). It had 42,922 miles. On January 10th, with approximated 43,500 miles driven, my car started to shake on red lights or when on idle so the next day I took it to the dealership to figure out the problem with my car. They told me that I was driving with no oil. Which caused the engine to fail and has to be replaced, however I never got the low oil light. Warnings did apear on the dashboard, Low Oil Pressure, check engine light, and engine power reduce and service StabiliTrak but once I arrived to the dealership which was already too late by then. I was never informed by the oil consumption even by the dealership mechanics. Which I always took it there. Since it was my first car and being the newest car model at the time I always wanted to be well taken care of. And it’s impossible that the oil would be completely gone within two months and 590 miles driven. As of now, my car is currently being work on by a different auto shop. I’m going to pay up to $8,000 to get my engine replace. I’m in need in getting it repaired as fast as possible due to needing it to drive between jobs and picking up my siblings from work/school. Apparently I’m not the only person that has had this exact problem with their Chevy Equinox. Thankfully I experienced the problems when I was closed to the dealership and had no one with me. I read other people’s experience that they had a full car packed with family members or having the car staled in the middle of the street. This problem is a high risk to everyone on the road.

Jan 16, 2022

Regular oil changes. Most recent was 67 days prior to my 63500 mile engine being ruined due to No Oil. Was driving on the highway, first time the vehicle made any noise, within 2 miles car was completely done. Had it towed and mechanic said there was no sign of a hole, there was just no oil! He said it is a known problem with GM and that there are no motors available because everyone is having to replace! No diagnostic saying oil % was low or at 0%! New engine quote was $9000, would take at least a month to get and will have the same issue most likely.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking oil as oil was found on the garage floor. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the diagnosis was that the PCV valve was frozen however, the repairs were unknown to the contact as the mechanic stated that the issue was resolved. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving the oil warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed back to the independent mechanic. The independent mechanic started the vehicle and noticed oil was leaking from the rear main seal. The engine and transmission needed to be removed to replace the rear main seal. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that the mechanic informed him that there was a recall for the failure. The contact stated that he called the dealer and manufacture and it was confirmed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The contact was referring the failure to an unknown manufacturer recall. So I was driving home from work which is a 28 minute drive, when I was almost 2 miles away from home the car started to make a funny noise and it started to smell like gas inside from the vents. When I turned off a major street the the car slowed completely down without any warning on the dashboard and luckily I was right in front of a autoshop so I hurried up and pulled in. As soon as I pulled in, the car started to get smoky in the inside so I hurry up and jump out wasn't sure if the car was going to start a fire. When I go inside the shop it was a lady with the same car as mine but just gold and she was complaining that oil was pouring out. The owner of the shop asked me what's wrong because I was a little distraught and I told him my car just slowed down and start smoking inside of the car. He said what ok ill take it right in to see what's wrong. 10 mins later he comes out with a video on his phone showing oil leaking all around the the engine, Trans and front of the car all the way to the muffler. He said this is common with these Equinox with the 4 cylinder engine, the rear main seal did not hold and all the oil leaked out. I bust out crying, I didn't even make it to 3yrs yet and still owe 12,000 on the car. I keep up with oil changes and the car never said I was low on oil I checked, it showed 40%. The owner say calm down we can call the dealership to see if they have a recall. So we call they knew exactly what the problem was and ask how many miles I had and he say sorry your your 2,000 miles over your warranty, I'm sorry I can't do anything for you. The owner of the shop say sorry I see this all the time with these Equinox and its ridiculous we just found out the gold one have the exact same issue. I'm writing to you because I did some research and this is a common issue with this model. I seen a lot of the rear main seal fail when the temperature drop and the water build up where the cover of the engine is and freeze inside and the seal don't hold.

Timing chain system and ABS

Jul 15, 2021

The engine/timing chain and heads for my 2017 Chevrolet Equinox failed. I only had this vehicle for 4 years 4 months with only 113,000 miles. I feel my safety was put at risk because out of nowhere my vehicle began jerking and bucking back in forth very badly. I had my vehicle totally diagnosed with Gateway Tire Center and Service, which cost me $283.17, just for a diagnosis. My vehicle has not been inspected due to this vehicle was brand new with zero miles when I purchased it on October 30, 2016. All maintenance has been kept up regularly on my vehicle. Before my vehicle all of sudden quit running there were no indications that there was a problem until the engine light popped on after it started the jerking and bucking back in forth. I am highly upset with the dealership who sold me this vehicle because I know they knew this vehicle would not operate any more after a certain amount of mileage. I should not have to be trying to car shop this early on for a new vehicle. I am only 13000 to 14000 miles outside of my warranty with this vehicle it is no way I should have to either purchase a new engine or buy a new vehicle. I need something done about this immediately.

ON A VERY FRIGID WINTER DAY WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, MY CAR STARTED SHAKING, AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON, THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT AND CAR CAME TO A STOP. GOT IT TAKEN TO CHEVROLET DEALER WHO SAID THEY HAD 3 OTHER EQUINOXES IN THE SHOP THE LAST 2 DAYS OF FRIGID COLD WITH THE SAME ISSUE. FIX FOR A REAR MAIN SEAL REPAIR, AFTER THEY HAD DONE A DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION AND MULTI POINT VEHICLE INSPECTION. THIS REPAIR COST US OVER $2000. I JUST DROPPED MY KIDS OFF AT SCHOOL AND WAS HEADED HOME WHEN MY CAR STARTED STALLING, AND OIL PRESSURE LOW WARNING CAME ON. A FEW MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD, THE ENGINE POWER LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING. I STARTED IT AGAIN LONG ENOUGH TO ROLL INTO A PARKING LOT BESIDE ME. I'VE HAD MY CAR TOWED 3TIMES, FIRST TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHO QUOTED ME A $1,400 FIX FOR A SEAL REPAIR, AFTER THEY HAD DONE A DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION. I WAS ALSO TOLD THEY COULD ASSIST IN A TRADE IN BECAUSE OF THE REPAIRS NEEDED. I WOULD FIRST NEED TO PAY FOR IT TO BE FIXED. I GOT TWO OTHER OPINIONS AT RESPECTABLE GARAGES WHO SAID IT WAS MY REAR MAIN SEAL AND BOTH QUOTED $2,400. I HAD TO GET A LOAN TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. FOLLOWING THE FIX, THE MECHANIC TEST DROVE IT AND SAID THE BRAND NEW SEAL BLEW AGAIN. THEY DID RESEARCH AND SAW THERE IS A MANUFACTURER MALFUNCTION WITH THE ENGINE AND TO COMPLETE THE TASKS TO RECONFIGURE MY ENGINE SO IT COULD WORK PROPERLY AND THE SAME PROBLEM NOT HAPPEN, IT WOULD BE AN ADDITIONAL $800 BUT THERE'S NO GUARANTEE IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. WITH MY FIRST STOP BEING THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP, I AM UPSET I'VE HAD TO PAY OVER $3,000 ON MY CAR AND NOW IT'S NOT EVEN GUARANTEED TO BE FIXED. CHEVY MECHANICS SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT THIS ISSUE WHEN I ORIGINALLY TOOK MY CAR THERE. IT'S BEEN A MONTH NOW I'VE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR. AS A SINGLE MOTHER, I'VE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY HAVING TO RENT CARS AND USING UBER/LYFT WHEN THIS PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED A MONTH AGO WHEN I ORIGINALLY SOUGHT THE DEALERSHIP' HELP.

I WAS IN A MCDONALDS DRIVE THRU WHEN I NOTICED A STRONG PETROLEUM SMELL. I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE AND FOUND OIL GUSHING FROM THE ENGINE. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND HAD IT TOWED TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER. THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE PCV SYSTEM HAD CLOGGED AND CAUSED THE CRANKCASE TO PRESSURIZE, THEREBY BLOWING THE REAL MAIN SEAL. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY AT THE TIME OR I COULD HAVE LOST ALL THE OIL AND SUFFERED AN ENGINE SEIZURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I GOT NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM OTHER THAN SMELL AND VISUAL EXAMINATION. THE REPAIRS WERE QUOTED AT $2320. AFTER COMPLAINING TO GM CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY PROVIDED COST ASSISTANCE WHICH REDUCED THE PRICE TO $954 PLUS TAX. ON FURTHER RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 2010-2014 CHEVY EQUINOX FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM AND THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 10 YEARS OR 120,000 MILES. THE 2015-2017 CHEVY EQUINOX HAS THE SAME 2.4 LITER ECOTEC ENGINE BUT GM HAS NOT SEEN FIT TO EXTEND THE RECALL TO THOSE YEARS. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT I HAD 83,773 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND ALWAYS HAD IT SERVICED AT THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM, SARCHIONE CHEVROLET IN RANDOLPH, OHIO. FURTHER CONTACT WITH GM GOT THEM TO PAY ANOTHER $400 (WHICH I HAVE NOT RECEIVED YET) BUT THEY REFUSED TO PAY THE ENTIRE AMOUNT. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT GM IS AWARE OF BUT NOT ACKNOWLEDGING BY EXTENDING THE RECALL FOR THE ADDITIONAL 3 YEARS THAT THIS ENGINE WAS AVAILABLE IN THE EQUINOX.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT OIL WOULD LEAK OUT OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AS THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK FORWARD AS THE SERVICE STABILITRAK WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. ONE DAY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER ADDING OIL INTO THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK UNCONTROLLABLY AND A BLUEISH SMOKE BEGAN TO EMIT FROM THE ENGINE. DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO EAST HILLS CHEVROLET OF ROSLYN( 1036 NORTHERN BLVD, ROSLYN, NY 11576) WHERE AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS PERFORMED AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT HER ENGINE SEALS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200.

I LIVE IN A STATE THAT HAS COLD WEATHER, DIPPING WELL BELOW FREEZING. I WENT TO GET AN OIL CHANGE WHEN MY CAR PROMPTED ME, AND MUCH TO MY SURPRISE THE MECHANICS FOUND A SEVERE OIL LEAK. I WAS TOLD NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ANY LONGER AND TO HAVE IT TOWED IMMEDIATELY TO A REPAIR SHOP. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM, AND THEIR MECHANIC JUST CALLED ME. ACCORDING TO HIM, THE PCV HAD MOISTURE IN IT THAT FROZE, CAUSING AIR PRESSURE BUILD UP THAT BURST AND DAMAGE A MAJOR OIL VALVE. HE STATED THAT THE PCV HOLE ISN'T BIG ENOUGH TO AVOID THESE ISSUES, AND THAT ONCE THEY REPAIR IT, THEY WILL DRILL THE HOLE TO MAKE IT BIGGER SO IT DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. MY CONCERN IS, IF THESE VEHICLES ARE SOLD NATIONWIDE, AND ARE SO POPULAR, WHY ARE THEY NOT THINKING OF THESE POSSIBLE ISSUES? OWNERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY OVER $2100 FOR A REPAIR DUE TO AN ISSUE IN MANUFACTURING!

WE LIVE IN MN AND WENT OUT TO START OUR 2.4 EQUINOX AND IT STARTED AND THEN DIED. THIS WAS SITTING IN OUR DRIVEWAY AND WAS IN PARK WHEN IT HAPPENED. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT IT THERE WAS A PCV FREEZE UP WHICH CAUSED THE MAIN SEAL TO BLOW LOOSING THE OIL. THIS CAUSED THE TIMING CHAIN TO FAIL. WE REACHED OUT TO GM AND THEY STATED THIS IS OUT OF WARRANTEE AND THAT 2017 WHERE NOT EFFECTED EVEN THOU IT IS THE SAME MOTOR AS THE OTHERS THAT ARE AFFECTED. WE REACHED OUT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING THAT BECAUSE THE CAR HAS 80,000 MILES WE ARE OUT OF THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTEE.

I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR A YEAR AND A HALF NOW. COUNTLESS TIMES I'VE HAD OIL LEAKING, INCREASED OIL CONSUMPTION, AND FREQUENT OIL CHANGES. THIS PAST TIME HAS BEEN A MONTH SINCE MY LAST OIL CHANGE, AND WHEN GETTING TO WORK THIS MORNING I NOTED SOUNDS COMING FROM THE ENGINE, AND CHECKED THE OIL TO FIND NO OIL LEFT. ONE MONTH, AND IT CONSUMED 5 QUARTS OF OIL. WHEN DRIVING AND COMING TO A STOP, THERE IS A NOTICEABLE HITCH, AS WELL AS WHEN ACCELERATING UP A HILL, ALONG WITH A SLIGHT KNOCK IN THE ENGINE WHEN OIL RUNS OUT.

PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE, VERY DANGEROUS! I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK DRIVING ON THE NORTHEAST EXTENSION OF THE PA TURNPIKE HEADING SOUTH, AND I WAS BETWEEN EXIT 95 & EXIT 87 ON FRIDAY 8/2/19 AT APPROX. 3:30 PM. I WAS DRIVING THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 70 MPH AND WAS NOT USING CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE CAR ABRUPTLY SHIFTED INTO LOW GEAR, FLASHED A 'REDUCED POWER MODE' WARNING, AND WENT INTO A 'LIMP' MODE WHERE IT WAS SLOWING DOWN TO EVENTUALLY STOP ITSELF, BUT I WAS AT 40 OR 35 WHEN I PULLED OVER. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, AND THANK GOD NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME, I WASN'T IN CONSTRUCTION AND I HAD A SPOT I COULD SAFELY PULL OFF ONTO THE SHOULDER. I HAVE A 2017 CHEVY EQUINOX WITH ONLY 40,000 MILES ON IT. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND SAT FOR 5 MINUTES OR SO. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON, THE REDUCED POWER WARNING WAS GONE, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME AND CALLED THE DEALER, CHEVY WIND GAP, TO SEE IF I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED THERE OR IF I COULD DRIVE IT IN MYSELF. THEY TOLD ME THEY THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A SENSOR MALFUNCTION, THAT IT SHOULD RESET ITSELF, AND THAT I COULD DRIVE IT THERE FOR THEM TO LOOK AT WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF AFTER A FEW DAYS, AND CHEVY WIND GAP WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY CURRENT CODE HISTORY OF THE REDUCED POWER MODE SO NOW I'M JUST DRIVING IN FEAR EVERY TIME I GET INTO THE THING THAT IT'S GOING TO DO THIS AGAIN AT ANY TIME. I DON'T WANT TO TAKE PASSENGERS FOR FEAR OF PUTTING THEM IN DANGER. IF THIS HAPPENED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH A TRACTOR TRAILER ON MY BUMPER, IT COULD MAKE FOR A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE CHEVY EQUINOX, THIS IS THE 3RD ONE WE'VE BOUGHT, PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS OUT THERE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO BECAUSE THAT NUMBER IS GROWING EACH DAY. PLEASE GIVE US PIECE OF MIND TO FEEL SAFE AGAIN IN OUR NEW CHEVY EQUINOX.

I PREPAID FOR OIL CHANGES AND GO REGULARLY. DATES ARE APPROXIMATE BUT I HAVE REPORTS IN MY CAR GLOVEBOX

I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE ONE OTHER TIME! THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED MY TRANSMISSION HAD A LEAK BUT NO LEAK MARKS IN MY BRAND NEW DRIVEWAY, THEY TOLD ME TO DRIVE IT FOR 200 MILES SO THEY CAN FIGURE OUT WHERE THE LEAK IS, THIS WAS ALL SAID THE DAY I HAD MY OIL CHANGED, THEN WHEN I CAN BACK AFTER DRIVING 200 MILES THEY THEN CLAIMED MY OIL PAN WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THANK GOD MY BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY WAS STILL IN EFFECT. THEY LOOKED SHOCKED WHEN I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT AND I WOULD NOT BE PAYING FOR IT.
