Chevrolet Express 1500 Years to Avoid
The 2003 model year shows elevated complaints, particularly with the 5.3L V8 experiencing Active Fuel Management issues. Owners report excessive oil consumption related to AFM lifter problems. The 4L60E transmission had higher failure rates during this period. Fuel system issues including pump failures stranded some owners. Brake wear was excessive, with rotors requiring replacement frequently. The 2003-2005 period had more electrical issues than earlier or later years. These mid-2000s models represent a quality dip before GM addressed known issues.
Best Chevrolet Express 1500 Years
The 2012 Chevrolet Express 1500 represents improved reliability with many earlier issues resolved. By 2012, the AFM system had been refined and transmission durability improved. The 4.8L V8 without AFM is particularly reliable. Later model years through 2015 are equally good choices. Buy 2010 or newer for the most trouble-free Express ownership.
