TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER, WATER LEAKED INTO THE VEHICLE FROM UNDERNEATH THE DASHBOARD ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE THAT THE SUNROOF WAS SUPERGLUED TOGETHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE INSPECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED.

WHILE TRAVELING A MAJOR INTERSTATE HIGHWAY TO WORK, I BEGAN TO MERGE ONTO THE EXIT RAMP. WHILE DOWNSHIFTING MY MANUAL TRANSMISSION, THE CLUTCH SUDDENLY LOST TENSION AND WENT THROUGH THE FLOOR. I HAD TO COAST DOWN THE EXIT RAMP, COAST ALONG ANOTHER ROAD BEFORE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED, I REALIZED THAT THE CLUTCH HAD COME LOOSE FROM AND BROKEN THROUGH THE FIREWALL. I WAS FORTUNATE NOT TO HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT WHEN THIS HAPPENED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE BUMPER BECAME SLIGHTLY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT LOOKED AT THE AREA OF THE VEHICLE WHERE THE BUMPER NEEDED TO BE RE-ATTACHED AND NOTICED THAT THE METAL INNER BUMPER WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. WHEN TOUCHING THE INNER BUMPER, IT IMMEDIATELY DISINTEGRATED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

FROM SOME RESEARCH I DID THIS BREAKING OFF IS A COMMON PROBLEM. WHAT I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT IF FOR SOME REASON LIKE AN ACCIDENT I COULDN'T GET THE WINDOW DOWN, I WOULD BE STUCK IN THE VEHICLE.

THE CAR HAS HAD THE A/C FAN MOTOR REPLACED AT LEAST 4 TIMES, EACH TIME IT WAS DAMAGED BY A WATER LEAK. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED MOTOR ONCE WHILE UNDER WARRANTY BUT STATED THEY COULD NOT FIND/FIX THE LEAK. THIS WAS A LIE BECAUSE IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE BUTYL PATCH, EASILY FOUND IN THE MOST BASIC INTERNET SEARCH. THE DOOR HANDLES ARE MADE OF THE CHEAPEST PLASTIC, DRIVER'S SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF. THERE IS WATER LEAKING INTO THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE FLOORBOARD WITH NO CAUSE YET FOUND. THE WORST PART OF THIS IS THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NOT COMPLETELY FIXING THE LEAK PROBLEM DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD, THEN CHARGING ME TO FIX IT AGAIN AFTER THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. NOW I CAN'T EVEN GET THEM TO RETURN MY PHONE CALLS REGARDING THE RECALL REPAIRS THEY ARE REQUIRED TO DO. *TR

WHILE CAR WAS IN FOR RECALL, ADDRESSED AN UNRELATED ELECTRICAL SOLENOID PROBLEM AND ASKED THE DEALER TO LOOK AT THE DOOR LOCK ISSUE. DEALER NOTIFIED OWNER THAT PASSENGER DOOR AND REAR SEAT LEFT AND RIGHT DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS HAD FAILED (3 OF 4 TOTAL). ASKED DEALER IF THEY HAD SEEN THIS UNUSUAL CONDITION ON ANY OTHER HHR'S AND THEY SAID NO. SHOWED THEM THE 30+ ISSUES LOGGED ON THIS SITE AND THEY ONLY COMMENTED THAT THE HHR WAS NOT THE BEST GM PRODUCT EVER BUILT BUT THERE WAS NO DEALER FIX FOR THIS ISSUE. CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT IT WOULD BE $340 PER DOOR TO FIX AND SERVICE WAS DECLINED (AFTER $80 DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE TO VERIFY THAT DOOR LOCKS DID NOT WORK). *TR

WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH OUR HHR SINCE WE BOUGHT IT IN AUGUST OF 2007. THE FIRST PROBLEM OCCURRED JUST AFTER PURCHASING IT, WHEN WE WERE DRIVING IT OUT ON A HIGHWAY FOR A FIRST TIME OUTING WITH IT, WHEN I NOTICED THE FRONT WHEELS SEEMED TO BE FLOATING BACK AND FORTH. I SLOWED DOWN AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT HOME. WE CONTACTED OUR LOCAL DEALER, AND HAD THE CAR BROUGHT IN TO BE CHECKED OUT. WE WERE TOLD THE FRONT BUSHINGS WERE BAD & NEEDED REPLACING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BUSHINGS. (UNDER WARRANTY) IN SEPTEMBER OF 2007, WE HAD TO REPLACE OUR CARS REMOTE CONTROL, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ONLY 1 YEARS OLD. OUR DEALER REPLACED IT BUT WE HAD TO PAY $81.82 OUT OF OUR POCKET. OCTOBER 2007, I BROUGHT OUR CAR INTO OUR DEALER BECAUSE IT HAD A ROUGH RIDE AND GROANING SOUNDS. THE DEALER LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THE SOUND WAS COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THEY REPLACED OUR STEERING COLUMN UNDER WARRANTY. DECEMBER OF 2007 MY WIFE, MOTHER & I WENT TO A CHRISTMAS LIGHT PARADE IN OUR TOWN; WHEN WE GOT HOME I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION & WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE THE KEY, IT WOULD NOT COME OUT. THAT MONDAY I CALLED OUR LOCAL DEALER & THEY HAD US BRING IN THE CAR ON 12/3/07. THEY REPORTED THAT THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE INTER LOCK2 AND A FUSE HAD BROWN. THEY FOUND THAT A WIRE HARNESS WAS PINCHED UNDER THE COLUMN COVER & REPAIRED THE HARNESS (UNDER WARRANTY) JANUARY 29,2008 I BROUGHT OUR 2006 HHR INTO OUR DEALER AGAIN COMPLAINING ABOUT SQUEAKING AND POPPING NOISE WITH CLUNKING IN LEFT FRONT. THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN OFF COMPLETELY THERE IS NO WAY TO GET OUT OF THE CAR UNLESS YOU ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND THEY ARE ELECTRIC? SO AFTER CALLING CHEVROLET AND SEEING IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETINS FOR THIS ISSUE I WAS TOLD TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT. SO I DID AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD COST 497.00 PER DOOR BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE BOTH INSIDE DOOR PANELS. IT IS NOT A SAFETY HAZARD AND THERE ARE NO BULLETINS TO FIX THIS? THEY SAID THAT THEY SELL ABOUT 50-60 HANDLES A WEEK. THERE ARE SEVERAL VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE ON HOW TO REPLACE THE HANDLE, AND MANY COMPANIES ONLINE SELLING JUST THE HANDLE OF THE HHR. WE HAVE NEVER HAD A INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BREAK WITHIN 3 YEARS OF OWNING A CAR, AND TO BREAK A SECOND TIME IN ANOTHER 3 YEARS, AND IT APPEARS TO BE A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO WEBSITE GROUPS, FORUMS ETC. ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO THE INSIDE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF SO WE CANNOT EXIT THE CAR WITHOUT LOWERING THE WINDOW AND REACHING OUT SIDE OF CAR AND OPENING IT WITH THE OUTSIDE HANDLE. ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO THE INSIDE PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF IN THE SAME WAY THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN I STOP THE CAR, TAKE MY KEYS FROM THE IGNITION AND THEN REALIZE I CANNOT OPEN MY DOOR, SO HAVE TO REINSERT MY KEY TO TURN THE CAR ON ENOUGH TO ALLOW FOR THE POWER WINDOWS TO GO DOWN, SO I CAN REACH OUT AND OPEN MY DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW OCCASIONS THAT I HAVE ROLLED MY WINDOW BACK UP AND LOCKED AND EXITED MY CAR FORGETTING THAT I HAD PUT MY KEYS BACK IN TO POWER THE WINDOWS, WHEN I RETURN MY KEYS ARE LOCKED IN MY CAR AND THE BATTERY IS DEAD....THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING! AND THIS HAPPENED THIS MORNING WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT THE FRONT DOOR DIDN'T LOCK. I GOT INSIDE SHUT THE DOOR, REALIZED THAT ONCE AGAIN I HAD LEFT MY KEYS INSIDE( BECAUSE OF HAVING TO REINSERT TO ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN TO GET OUT) BEGAN TO START MY CAR AND THE BATTERY WAS DEAD SO I COULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR BY ROLLING THE WINDOW DOWN, NOR UNLOCK THE BACK DOORS BECAUSE THE LOCKS DID NOT WORK DUE TO THE BATTERY BEING DRAINED! SO THIS IS NOT A MERE INCONVENIENCE ANYMORE IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE!IMAGINE BEING TRAPPED IN YOUR CAR! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT WAS EXCITING THE VEHICLE WHEN THE INTERIOR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HANDLE DETACHED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT ON A SEPARATE OCCASION WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE ABNORMALLY WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THAT INSIDE DOOR ASSEMBLY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH BOTH SIDE FRONT ROTORS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN DID NOT QUALIFY FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V046000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,000.

THE CAR HAS SEVERAL SAFETY ISSUES. THE MAIN CONCERN IS THAT BOTH OF THE FRONT DOORS HAD THE HANDLES BREAK OFF. YOU CANNOT OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE. YOU MUST ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. IF THE VEHICLE WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OR CAUGHT ON FIRE AND THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE VEHICLE YOU ARE LITERALLY TRAPPED INSIDE. I HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF CHEVROLET BUT THEY HAVE FAILED TO DO ANYTHING.I FEEL LIKE THE VEHICLE IS A ROLLING DEATH TRAP. THE OTHER CONCERN IS THAT THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON THE VEHICLE. CHEVROLET DOES NOT MAKE IT A RECALL YET YOU CAN BE DRIVING ALONG AND ALL OF A SUDDEN YOUR POWER STEERING GOES OUT. I RECENTLY TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE RATTLE IN THE STEERING AND THE WATER LEAK. I FOUND NUMEROUS TSB ARTICLES FOR THE ISSUES, BUT THE DEALER AND GM ARE CLAIMING THE TSBS DO NOT EXIST. THE REPAIRS WILL TOTAL MORE THAN $1100. I WAS TOLD THE BUSHINGS, AND TENSION RODS ARE THE PROBLEM WITH MY STEERING, AND THEY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. AT 52K MILES I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THESE ITEMS WOULD FAIL.. WE HAVE SEVERAL DEFECTS. AFTER NORMAL BRAKING A COUPLE OF TIMES THE CAR AND STEERING WHEEL BEGINS TO SHAKE AND SHIMMY. THE MORE YOU USE THE BRAKES AFTER THIS STARTS THE MORE VIOLENT THE SHIMMY BECOMES UNTIL WE HAVE TO STOP AND LET THE BRAKES COOL DOWN. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ROTORS ONCE BUT COULD OFFER NO EXPLANATION. WE CONTINUE TO BE PLAGUED BY THIS PROBLEM BUT NOW MY EXTENDED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER BRAKES AND NO ONE KNOWS OR OWNS UP TO WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. TODAY I TRIED TO GET A NEW DOOR HANDLE ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE THE WHOLE DOOR PANEL ($269.71 WITH MY TRADE DISCOUNT). THIS IS A CRAZY WAY TO REPAIR A CHEAP PLASTIC DOOR HANDLE. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET ONLY TO LEARN THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM TO MANY OTHER HHR VEHICLES. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL WITH A BETTER DESIGN INCLUDED FOR THIS DOOR HANDLE. THE INTERIOR HANDLES ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR OF MY 2006 CHEVY HHR ARE BROKE. I WAS IN THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED, BETWEEN ERRANDS BOTH TIMES. CALLS/EMAILS MADE TO GM HAVE NOT BEEN PRODUCTIVE. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, I CAN NOT EXIT THE VEHICLE OTHER THEN ROLLING DOWN THE WINDOW AND OPENING FROM THE OUTSIDE. IF SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN, I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. ONE BROKE ONE WEEK, AND THE PASSENGER BROKE A WEEK LATER. THE PART THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE DOOR MECHANISM IS SMALLER THEN A DIME AND MADE OF POOR QUALITY PLASTIC MOLDING. IT IS THE ONLY THING SUPPORTING THE DOOR MECHANISM. WHEN EMAILING GM, I CONTINUED TO GET THE RUN AROUND FOR DAYS UNTIL I THREATENED TO REPORT THEM TO THIS SITE. I AM CHOOSING TO ANYHOW BECAUSE I DO NOT FEEL THEY HAVE TAKEN PROPER STEPS TO ENSURE THIS IS REPAIRED. THEY DID CONNECT ME TO A DEALER, GRAFF CHEVROLET IN GRAND PRAIRIE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT HAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE EVER SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED. WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, THE DOOR HANDLE CRACKED IN HALF AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO BECOME TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. SHE HAD TO EXIT THE VEHICLE USING THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE DOOR HANDLE FAILURE WAS A COMMON ISSUE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. IN ADDITION, WHEN ACTIVATING THE AIR CONDITIONER OR HEATING UNIT, A SMALL AMOUNT OF AIR COMES OUT OF THE VENTS. THE CONTACT COULD NOT TURN DOWN THE HEAT OR AIR BECAUSE THE DIALS TO CONTROL THE AIR AND HEAT DO NOT TURN AND ARE PERMANENTLY SET TO HIGH. SHE IS UNABLE TO ADJUST THE SETTINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE A/C UNIT AND THE SWITCH TO ADJUST THE A/C AND HEATING UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO MONTHS LATER. NO ADDITIONAL REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY REFUSED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY DID NOT RECEIVE A CALL FROM THE MANUFACTURER TO INSPECT OR MAKE REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. I BOUGHT THE 2006 HHR IN MARCH 2007, IN JULY I HAD THE STABILIZER LINKS REPLACED, THEN IN DECEMBER I HAD TO HAVE THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED, IN OCTOBER 2008 I NEEDED TO HAVE THE STRUTS REPLACED & NOW A WEEK LATER I HAVE TO HAVE THE STRUT MOUNTS REPLACED. NOT ONLY THAT, I HAD A LEAK FROM THE HEATER CASE THAT LEAKED INTO MY PASSENGER SIDE, I HAD THE RADIO REPLACED & ALSO MY FRONT & BACK BUMPER IS LOOSE WHICH THE DEALER TOLD ME ON THE PHONE THAT IS PROBABLY CLIPS THAT HAVE BROKEN OFF. I WAS TOLD BECAUSE I LIVE IN MICHIGAN, THAT THE STRUTS WENT BAD SOONER THAN ANTICIPATED. ALSO, ALTHOUGH I HAD A CAR FAX REPORT ON THIS CAR, THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT THAT NO ONE KNEW ABOUT. I AM NOT VERY PLEASED WITH THIS CAR & ITS A SHAME TO MAKE A CAR PAYMENT ON A CAR THAT I DON'T EVEN LIKE ANYMORE DUE TO THE PROBLEMS. MY 2006 CHEVROLET HHR IS GETTING SANDBLASTED ON THE REAR ROCKER PANELS OVER THE COURSE OF NORMAL DRIVING DOWN PAVED ROADS. THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH PROTECTIVE PLASTIC GUARDS WHICH ARE TAKING ALL THE ABUSE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THIS IS WHAT THE GUARDS WERE FOR. FINALLY THEY TOOK PICTURES AND DECIDED TO REPAINT THEM AND INSTALL MUDFLAPS AT THEIR COST. NOW THE PAINT IS STILL GETTING SANDBLASTED AGAIN AND THE PAINT IS PEELING OFF. AFTER COMPLAINING YET AGAIN I WAS TOLD BY THE GM BUSINESS RESOURCE CENTER THAT I SHOULD HAVE PURCHASED THE RUNNINGBOARDS AT THE TIME I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IF I WANTED TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. HOW WAS I TO FORESEE THIS PROBLEM? THEY REFUSED TO INSTALL THEM AT THEIR COST WHICH I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD HAVE. THEY ARE SAYING THAT I AM PICKING UP 'ROAD DEBRIS" AND THAT'S THE PROBLEM. I ONLY DRIVE ON PAVED ROADS SO THIS IS A RIDICULOUS AND FALSE STATEMENT. FINALLY TODAY THEY CALLED AND AGREED TO PAY FOR 50% OF THE RUNNINGBOARDS AND THE INSTALLATION OF THEM. LAST NIGHT, IT WAS A BIT WINDY HERE IN NEW YORK CITY. THE WEATHER REPORT SAID THAT THE WIND WAS ABOUT 20 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 30 MPH. WELL, I HAD MADE A FEW STOPS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK, BUT WHEN I GOT HOME, I OPENED THE DOOR, AND AS IS STARTED TO OPEN, THE WIND PULLED THE DOOR OUT OF MY HAND, AND THINGS HAPPENED SO FAST ... I HEARD A BANG, AND THE DOOR FLEW OPEN ... I'D SAY ... ALMOST 180 DEGREES, WHICH SOUNDS IMPOSSIBLE. THE DOOR THEN CAME BACK AND STAYED OPEN ABOUT 16 TO 18 INCHES. I COULD NOT CLOSE THE DOOR. I PULLED AND PULLED, AND IT CLOSED. NOW, IT ONLY OPENS 16 TO 18 INCHES, AND I HAVE TO SQUEEZE OUT. THE CAR HAS DAMAGE TO THE LEFT FRONT QUARTER PANEL AND THE DOOR. AND, I DON'T KNOW HOW BADLY THE INTERNAL PARTS OF THE DOOR ARE. THE QUARTER PANEL IS STICKING OUT ABOUT 4 INCHES, AND THE DOOR IS RUBBING AGAINST IT VERY HARD, WHICH IS WHY I CAN ONLY OPEN THE DOOR A LITTLE BIT. I'M NOT AN EXPERT ON ASSESSING DAMAGE, BUT I DID CALL MY INSURANCE COMPANY THIS EVENING TO FILE A CLAIM. (MY GUESS IS THAT I'M LOOKING AT ALMOST $2,000 IN DAMAGE ...
