The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet HHR. The contact stated while exiting the driveway of a restaurant, the steering wheel failed to respond as needed. The contact turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that while attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to restart. There were unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the alternator and battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to a second independent mechanic who informed the contact that the key was stuck in the ignition switch and the electrical system was burned. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet HHR. The contact stated while driving at various speeds between 30-65 MPH, the steering wheel became extremely difficult to steer and the vehicle lost electrical power. The contact stated that she would veer to the side of the road or park the vehicle whenever the failure occurred. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that upon attempting to restart the vehicle and inserting the key in the ignition switch, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that she continually turned the key in the ignition switch until the vehicle restarted. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring increasingly and the vehicle failed to restart after several attempts. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under an NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V171000 (Electrical System) however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

While driving, more specific while turning the powersteering goes out at any given time. It has also done this while switching lanes on the freeway.

While driving the vehicle approximately 45mph, the power steering light came on the dash. While driving straight was not an issue, attempting to pull off the road was difficult. I checked owners manual which told me to take it to a dealer. This in itself was bothersome. I opened the hood and called my mechanic, who told me to check fuses. I replaced the fuse and the vehicle was fine for about 4 weeks, but once again driving 30-35 mph, the light came on the dashboard. I have saved both replaced fuses, I’m wondering after reading other reports whether the fuses are even blown? Either way, this is not a safe situation to be driving any speed without power steering. I WAS DRIVING MY 07 CHEVROLET HHR @ 45 MPH WHEN THE DASH DISPLAY BLINKED THEN DISPLAYED ENGINE POWER REDUCED, FOLLOWED BY A SUBSTANTIAL REDUCTION OF SPEED. I COULDN'T ACCELERATE BEYOND 30 MPH, SO I PULLED OFF OF THE ROAD TO AVOID BEING HIT BY THE 18 WHEELER TRAVELING BEHIND ME. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. I DROVE 15 MILES BACK HOME @ A SPEED OF 30 MPH. THE VEHICLE REFUSES TO ACCELERATE BEYOND 30 MPH

THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE IN ORDER FOR THE POWER STEERING TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.

NO PROBLEMS UNTIL 11/05/14 RECALL 14063 IGNITION SWITCH AND 14113 LOCK CYLINDER WERE REPLACED. 20 DAYS LATER AFTER FIGHTING WITH GM AND DEALERSHIP FOR 3 WEEKS IT WAS TOWED BACK TO DEALERSHIP BECAUSE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION. TESTED CHARGING SYSTEM AND FOUND BATTERY TO FAIL. REPLACED BATTERY, VEHICLE STARTED AND KEY RELEASED UNTIL THE NEXT TIME I WENT TO START IT ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER. VEHICLE WOULDN'T START AND KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION AGAIN. 01/30/15 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP CAME TO MY HOUSE PICKED UP THE HHR AND TOOK IT IN FOR RECALL SPECIAL COVERAGE 14632 FLOOR SHIFTER REPLACED. BEFORE I COULD GET THE VEHICLE BACK THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND INFORMED ME THE NEW BATTERY HAD FROZEN AND WOULD NOT ACCEPT A CHARGE. I REPLACED THAT BATTERY WITH ANOTHER NEW BATTERY. THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS I NEEDED A NEW BODY CONTROL MODULE ESTIMATED PARTS AND LABOR $600 BEFORE I WOULD EVER BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT. I HAVE NOT DROVE THE VEHICLE IN OVER A YEAR. KEY FOB WOULDN'T EVEN UNLOCK THE DOORS. UPDATE....7/13 ANOTHER NEW BATTERY. STARTED 7/13 - 7/22. 7/23 KEY FOB WOUDLN'T EVEN OPEN DOORS. VEHICLE WOULDN'T START AND KEY LOCKED IN THE IGNITION AGAIN. I WANT G.M. TO BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP HHR BACK. THE ONLY SATISFACTION I WILL ACCEPT. FINALIZED AND NON NEGOTIABLE. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!

POWER STEERING SUDDENLY STOPS WORKING AND INDICATOR LIGHT ON DASHBOARD SAYS POWER STEERING- THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. MOST OF THE TIME SHUTTING OF THE VEHICLE AND THEN RESTARTING IT WILL GET THE POWER STEERING WORKING AGAIN FOR A SHORT TIME. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE OR ALLOWING IT TO IDLE IN THE DRIVEWAY THEN TURNING IT OFF IT WILL NOT START AGAIN FOR A MINIMUM OF 1 HOUR. WHILE DRIVING -SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN- THE ENGINE HAS ABRUPTLY SHUT OFF AND NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE VEHICLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY HEADLIGHTS MAINLY ON THE DRIVER SIDE I HAVE TO USE MY HIGH BEAMS IN ORDER TO SEE SOMETHING AND THAT'S WHEN I'M IN MOTION OR NOT. THEN NOW MY STEERING I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT BUT I CAN START MY CAR UP AND I CAN DRIVE AND ALL THE SUDDEN MY STEERING WHEEL GETS HARD TO WHERE I CAN'T TURN IT, IT'S HARD TO TURN. MY ELECTRICAL IN MY VEHICLE IT IS VERY BAD MY RADIO KEEPS POPPING ON AND OFF. I HAVE TO HIT MY HEADLIGHTS TO KEEP THM ON AND IT KEEPS GOING ON AND OFF AND I'M GUESSING THIS DUE TO MY ELECTRICAL.

ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS IT HAS RAINED WHILE MY CAR SAT OVERNIGHT AND WATER HAS SEEPED IN THE PASSENGER SIDE COMPARTMENT FROM BEHIND THE GLOVE BOX , I HAVE HAD THIS ADDRESSED 3 TIMES AND REPAIRED 3 TIMES AND FOUND OUT THAT IT IS A SMALL FLAP THAT COVERS A HOLE ON THE FIREWALL THAT FAILS OR FALLS OFF MAKING IT SO THAT WATER ENTERS THE VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT A ISOLATED INCIDENT OTHER HHR OWNERS SAY THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.

MY HUSBAND WAS INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT ON 9-29-2015. WHAT HAPPENED WAS MY HUSBAND WAS STOPPED ON THE INTERSTATE AND A TRUCK SLAMMED INTO MY HUSBAND. HE SAID HIS CAR TURNED OFF AS SOON AS THE FIRST IMPACT, AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WAS A SECOND IMPACT FROM THE SAME TRUCK, WHICH WAS ON MY HUSBANDS PASSENGER SIDE. THE CAR IS COMPLETELY TOTALED. MY HUSBAND WAS LUCKY TO WALK AWAY FROM THIS ACCIDENT. THE HHR WAS RECALLED FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH LAST YEAR AND WE HAD THE NEW PART INSTALLED 2/2015 WHEN THE DEALERSHIP RECEIVED THE PARTS. IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT SPEED I AM DRIVING OR HOW LONG I HAVE BEEN DRIVING, MY POWER STEERING WILL RANDOMLY GO OUT. SOMETIMES I CAN MAKE IT AN ENTIRE TRIP WITHOUT IT GOING AND SOMETIMES I CANT EVEN GET OUT OF MY PARKING SPACE BEFORE IT GOES. TOOK IT TO BILL HOLT CHEVROLET WHERE THEY REPLACED MY IGNITION SWITCH AFTER I GOT IT BACK MY DRIVERS DOOR WILL NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK CONSISTENTLY NOT EVEN WITH THE KEY, MY SERVICE AIRBAG AND POWER STEERING LIGHTS KEEP COMING ON, AND NOW RADIO AND INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS GO OFF. I HAVE TO STOP TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART THEY MIGHT COME BACK ON AND THEY MIGHT NOT. THE DEALER SHIP PERSONNEL RETURNED ASKING MY WIFE FOR THE, QUOTE: "OLD KEYS BECAUSE THEY WILL NO LONGER WORK AFTER THE REPAIR" THEN HANDING HER A NEW SET OF KEYS AFTER SURRENDERING THE OLD KEYS. WHEN MY WIFE RETURNED HOME THE IGNITION SWITCH STILL DID NOT WORK AS THE SWITCH TUMBLER WOULD NOT RELEASE THE KEY IN THE PARK POSITION AS BEFORE THE "FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH HAD BEEN REPLACED". I STILL HAD ONE OF THE ORIGINAL IGNITION KEYS , AS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP "IT WOULDN'T WORK"... I PLACED THE OLD KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND IT STARTED THE CAR. A COUPLE YEARS INTO OWNERSHIP THE CAR ENGINE BEGAN SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING UNEXPECTEDLY, 4 TIMES DURING LEFT HAND TURNS WHERE WE WERE TURNING INTO PARKING LOTS OR DRIVING OVER A DIP IN THE ROAD. ONCE OVER A POTHOLE. IT'S VERY SCARY , LEFT HAND TURNS ARE DANGEROUS MANEUVERS ANYWAYS , LET ALONE HAVING YOUR CAR STALL WHILE DOING IT. THESE INCIDENTS OCCURRED BEFORE WE EVER HEARD OF RECALL. WE RECEIVED THE NOTICES IN THE MAIL , BUT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND THE DEALER IS CLEARLY OVERWHELMED AND ANNOYED. OUR FIRST CONTACT WAS INCREDIBLY RUDE AND PUT MY HUSBAND ON HOLD FOR TWENTY MINUTES AND THEN BASICALLY SAID DON'T CALL US WE WILL CALL YOU AND HUNG UP ON HIM.. IN MAY THE POWER STEERING ISSUE HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY TRAVELING 65MPH ON A FREEWAY CURVE DURING HEAVY WINDS . THE CHIME SOUND WAS FOLLOWED BY THE ERROR MESSAGE AND I BECAME VERY AFRAID AND THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO STEER. I FINALLY GOT TO SHOULDER AFTER COMPLETELY PANICKING BECAUSE I DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENED. THE CAR WILL RESUME NORMAL OPERATION AFTER TURNING OFF FOR A PERIOD AND RESTARTING, BUT IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME TILL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THE RECALL ON THE STEERING IS NOT BEING COVERED BECAUSE MY MODEL YEAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL EVEN THOUGH GM IS COVERING IT IN OTHER 2007???? MAKES NO SENSE. THE RECALL I HAVE HAD SO FAR WAS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THAT TOOK THE DEALERSHIP OVER ONE MONTH TO REPAIR. AFTER MY CAR WAS REPAIRED AND APPARENTLY REKEYED I AM LOCKED OUT OF MY CAR, THE KEY WILL NOT UNLOCK MY CAR DOOR. I CALLED THE GM ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, WITH HOPES OF ASSISTANCE. THEY INFORM ME THEY WILL BE A $59.95 FEE TO UNLOCK MY CAR AND THEY ACCEPT ALL MAJOR CREDIT CARDS. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THIS WAS NOT MY ERROR IT AS A RESULT OF THE IGNITION RECALL THEY STOOD FIRM OF THEIR FEE AND SUGGESTED I CALL THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES. I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY HHR. I'VE HAD THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED. BUT NOT MANY OTHERS. UNTIL NOW THERE IS A CHIME AND THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR ON THE DASH COMES ON AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST GOES OFF. AT FIRST IT WAS ONCE IN AWHILE. NOW I CAN DRIVE 30 SECONDS TO 10 MIN AND THE POWER ASSIST GOES OUT. I RESTART AND IT COMES BACK FOR A MOMENT OR SO. ALL THE WAY TO WORK NO POWER STEERING ASSIST. ON THE WAY HOME IT WORKED FINE. I CAN'T FIND ANY PATTERN TO IT. KEY IN THE IGNITION ONLY AS STATED IN THE RECALL NOTICE I RECEIVED ABOUT THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT. EVERYTHING ON THE KEY CHAIN IT SEEMS TO WORK MORE OFTEN THAN NOT. I HAVE CONTACTED A CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND CHEVY. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE HIGHWAY, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WENT ON AND THEN I LOST POWER STEERING. I PULLED IT OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES, I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON. IT WAS FINE - FOR A BIT. DURING MY 21 MILE COMMUTE, THIS HAPPENED 4 TIMES. EVERY TIME, I LOST POWER STEERING, PULLED THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND TURNED IT OFF. EACH TIME I TURNED IT ON, IT WAS FINE FOR A BIT. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE DUE TO THE LACK OF STEERING - IT FELT LIKE I WAS DRIVING A TRACTOR EACH TIME THIS HAPPENED AND TURNING CORNERS WAS VERY DIFFICULT. ONCE I GOT HOME, WE CHECKED THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND IT STATED THAT WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING DEVICE IS FAULTING. I BOUGHT MY CAR A WEEK AGO. DROVE IT HOME WITH NO INCIDENT. THEN DROVE IT WAS ON THE HIGHWAY TO TAKE MY ELDERLY MOTHER TO AN AIRPORT 40 MILES AWAY. LUCKILY I WAS ON A STRAIGHT AWAY. I PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND PEOPLE EVENTUALLY LET ME OVER. I TOOK THE NEXT OFF RAMP AND MANAGED MY WAY HOME ON FRONTAGE ROADS AND SIDE STREETS, WHICH OF COURSE TOOK FOREVER. ARRIVING HOME I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND CRIED WITH RELIEF AND FRUSTRATION. THEN I TURNED THE IGNITION BACK ON TO SEE WHAT THE MESSAGE ON THE DASH WAS AGAIN AND IT WAS GONE. I'M TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS CAR AGAIN. AND EVERYTHING THING I'VE READ ONLINE SINCE, SAID THAT IF THE SHOP DOESN'T SEE THE MESSAGE OR DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEY CAN'T FIX IT, EQUALLING MONEY WASTED. IT HAS BEEN OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY AND NOW IT OCCURS EVERYTIME I TURN THE CAR OFF AND TRY TO TURN THE KEY TO THE "OFF" POSITION. I'VE READ IT HAS TO DO SOMETHING WITH THE GEAR SHIFT. WHEN PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK, THE KEY WOULD NOT REMOVE FROM THE IGNITION. ALSO, THE CAR COULD BE SHIFTED THROUGH THE GEARS WITHOUT PRESSING THE BUTTON ON THE SHIFTER. THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT THE GEAR SHIFT CAN BE BUMPED INTO AND OUT OF VARIOUS GEARS. AFTER OPENING THE CENTER CONSOLE, I DISCOVERED THAT THE PLASTIC PLUNGER THAT GOES DOWN THROUGH THE SHIFTER HAD BROKEN, AND IN THE PROCESS ALLOWED THE METAL PIN THAT CLOSES THE CONTACT WITH THE IGNITION TO COME LOOSE. THIS HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 6 - 10 TIMES IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS, WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, TERRY LABONTE CHEVY IN GREENSBORO, NC ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT I HAD PROBABLY SPILLED SOME LIQUID. *TR
