after car not used for two days, turning ignition on and attempted to start the engine a extremely load explosion came from engine compartment! Upon looking at the engine the PLASTIC intake manifold was blown to pieces. no warning a explosion was to occur, car was running normal prior to explosion.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS WARNING LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND THE VEHICLE LOSS BRAKES AND POWER STEERING FUNCTIONALITY WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT REMAINING ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS PREVIOUSLY INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. SEVERAL MINUTES LATER & AFTER A BRIEF PAUSE THE INITIAL TURNING THE KEY IGNITION STARTS THE ENGINE. FURTHER FAQ PERTAINING TO THIS FLAW WITH ALL SIMILAR CHEVY IMPALA ALL COME TO THE SAME IGNITION SWITCH ENGINE TURNING ON DEFECTS. ON DEC, 12, OUR 2001 IMPALA WAS SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY. IT HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR A FEW DAYS AND SINCE THE WEATHER WAS COLD, MY HUSBAND WANTED TO MAKE SURE IT WOULD START. WHEN HE TURNED THE KEY, THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION IN THE INJECTOR SYSTEM. FLAMES SHOT OUT AND THE SYSTEM WAS BLOWN APART. FORTUNATELY, THE CAR WAS NOT IN OUR GARAGE AT THE TIME AND HE WAS NOT INJURED. WE CALLED VERMILION CHEVROLET IN DANVILLE, ILLINOIS AND THE PERSON WHO ANSWERED SAID IT WAS A DEFECTIVE FUEL REGULATOR THAT HAD CAUSED THE PROBLEM. HE SEEMED TO BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. WE HAD RECENTLY RECEIVED A RECALL FOR POSSIBLE UNDER THE HOOD FIRES, BUT HE TOLD US THAT WAS FOR A LEAKY VALVE COVER GASKET, NOT THE FUEL REGULATOR. WE HAVE COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE, BUT THEY ARE BALKING AT COVERING THE DAMAGE. WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY ESTIMATES ON GETTING IT REPAIRED YET. WE ARE STILL WAITING ON THE INSURANCE. MEANWHILE WE HAVE A CAR WE CANNOT DRIVE. WE DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT, BUT THAT THE 2001 MODELS WERE NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALL. WHY NOT? HELP!!

I WAITED FOR RECALL PARTS (IGNITION AND OIL LEAK) AND HAD THEM COMPLETED 4/13/16. ON 4/22/16 MY CAR STARTED SMOKING COMING OFF THE FREEWAY, I PULLED OVER AND THE ENGINE STALLED, PEOPLE YELLED TO GET OUT IT WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE STARTED IN FRONT OF ENGINE AND PROCEEDED THOUGH ENGINE COMPARTMENT BURNING ALL PLASTICS AND WIRING. DEALERSHIP SAYS I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE SINCE I DIDN'T HAVE FULL INSURANCE COVERAGE. HOW CAN THAT BE, MY CAR WAS FINE UNTIL THEY WORKED ON IT. DEALERSHIP WAS ALSO VERY RUDE AND CONDESCENDING. I HOPE ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS AREN'T THE SAME. I GAVE DEALERSHIP 7 DAYS TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME NO ONE CAN HELP ME. I ALMOST BURNED UP IN THIS VEHICLE.

WHEN TAKEN TO THE GARAGE TO HAVE MAINTENANCE DONE THIS VEHICLE NEVER FAILED FOR THEM ON TWENTY TIMES OF STARTING IN A ROW. TOOK THE CAR HOME AND IT SAT AND NOW IT FAILED AGAIN. THEY SAID THEY HAD TO JUMP IT TO START IT AND WHEN QUESTIONED ABOUT IT THEY STATED IT TOOK THEM 10 TO 15 MINUTES TO GATHER ALL THE EQUIPMENT TO GET IT TO START. THE PROBLEM WOULD HAVE RESOLVED ITSELF IN THAT TIME. THIS IS NOW BECOMING LIFE THREATING AS THE VEHICLE STALLS IN TRAFFIC AND AN ACCIDENT COULD HAPPEN. NO CODES ARE SHOWING FOR THIS ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MONTHS NOW AND GETTING WORSE. THE IGNITION RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON MY 01 IMPALA 3.4 RECENTLY. THIS RECALL WAS MEANT TO FIX THE ISSUE OF THE CAR SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING DUE TO THE KEY MOVING OUT OF THE RUN POSITION TO THE OFF POSITION. HOWEVER, THIS HAS NOT FIXED THE ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN TO SEVERAL REPAIR SHOPS WITH CONCERNS ABOUT THE CAR SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING AND NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. THE CAR IS RUNNING PERFECT EXCEPT FOR THIS ISSUE. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE IS DUE TO THE IGNITION RECALL. AS ANY SERIOUS CAR OWNER, I TRIED TO ADDRESS THE CHEAPER ITEMS SUCH AS BATTERY REPLACEMENT AND SPARK PLUGS, ALL HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE. SLOWLY ALL THE ELECTRICAL APPLICATIONS IN MY CAR BEGAN TO STOP WORKING FROM THE BLINKERS, RADIO, HAZARDS, CRUISE CONTROL, CAR WINDOWS, AND FINALLY THE CAR STOPPED STARTING. I WAS TOO BROKE TO ADDRESS IT THEN, SO EVERY EARLY MORNING MY CAR WOULD REQUIRE A NICE JUMP START TO BEGIN THE DAY. THIS IMPALA WOULD NOT START SO OFTEN THAT I PURCHASED A PORTABLE BATTERY TO JUMP IT EVERYWHERE, EVEN AS SIMPLE AS THE GAS STATION. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THE PARASITIC DRAIN (DRAIN ON THE CAR BATTERY) WAS COMING FROM THE DASH CLUSTER/INSTRUMENT PANEL WHICH WAS IN LINE WITH THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE DISCOVERED ON GOOGLE THAT THE BCM WAS CAUSING NON-STARTER ISSUES FOR OTHER IMPALAS. HOWEVER, ONCE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS REPLACED MY RADIO WAS STILL NOT WORKING AND EVENTUALLY THE CAR BECAME A NON-STARTER AGAIN; THEREFORE, I SUSPECTED THE ROOT OF THE ISSUE STILL HAND NOT BEEN DISCOVERED. I EXPLAINED THIS TO MR. MCGHEE, THE OWNER OF MCGHEES AUTO SHOP, HE DID A THOROUGH JOB OF COMBING ALL THE INTRICATE WIRES TO DETERMINE FINALLY AN INTERMITTENT DRAW OCCURRING FROM THE AMPLIFIER IN THE TRUNK OF THE CAR. THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, FIXING THE AMPLIFIER, COST A GRAND TOTAL OF 220$ TO HAVE THE ACTUAL PART FIXED; I DID NOT WANT TO RISK PLACING A NON-STOCK AMPLIFIER, MY SPECIFIC AMPLIFIER IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE, IN THE CAR. HOWEVER, I LIKE OTHER CONSUMERS CONTINUALLY PAID TO REPLACE PARTS THAT FAILED AS IT WAS NOT OBVIOUS THERE WAS AN UNDERLYING MALFUNCTIONING IN A PARTICULAR APPLICATION THAT MADE THE ESSENTIAL PRODUCT USELESS.

ONCE AT THE MECHANICS THE MECHANIC TRIED TO START IT AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. HE KEPT IT FOR TWO DAYS AND TRIED STARTING IT NUMEROUS TIMES AND EVERY TIME IT STARTED. THE OTHER TIME WAS WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL IN A SNOW STORM AT NIGHT. THE ROADS WERE SLIPPERY AND I LOST ALL POWER INCLUDING THE LIGHTS AND POWER STEERING. WE'VE SPENT AT LEAST $2000 FOR DIAGNOSTICS/REPAIRS FOR FUEL SYSTEM CHECKS, ELECTRICAL CHECKS, NEW IGNITION, NEW IGNITION WIRES, NEW A/C COMPRESSOR (A/C WOULDN'T COOL), AND ONE FUEL INJECTOR REPLACED. FOR SEVERAL MONTHS IT DIDN'T CUT OUT BUT THE ENGINE WOULD STILL LURCH ONCE IN AWHILE. I PURCHASED A USED 2001 IMPALA WITH A LITTLE OVER 145K MILES ON IT IN NOVEMBER 2010. IT DROVE FINE FOR ABOUT A MONTH UNTIL THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. NO PROBLEM. EVENTUALLY IT HAD COOLING ISSUES AND WE HAD TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP. IT IS UNDERSTANDABLE TO REPLACE SUCH PARTS ON A USED VEHICLE. THE REAL ISSUES BEGAN IN THE SPRING WHENEVER MY CAR STARTED TO DISPLAY SECURITY WARNINGS, BATTERY WARNINGS, AND SERVICE VEHICLE WARNINGS FOR NO REASON. I COULD FIND NO MECHANIC OR ELECTRICIAN WHO COULD DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. EVENTUALLY, THE PROBLEMS BECAME WORSE: THE BLINKERS WOULD NOT WORK, MY ODOMETER, TEMPERATURE, AND FUEL GAUGE ALL QUIT WORKING. MY AIR-CONDITIONER WOULD NO LONGER COOL. THE RADIO "LOCKED". AND WHENEVER I APPLIED THE BRAKES, AN ELECTRONIC "POP" WAS AUDIBLE. CHEVY DEALERSHIPS ARE LEFT WITH THE EXHAUSTIBLE TASK OF DEALING WITH THESE ISSUES--WHEN THEY ARE NOT THEIR FAULT, BUT THE MANUFACTURERS. A QUICK SEARCH ONLINE WILL REVEAL THAT IMPALAS ARE PLAGUED WITH ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS FROM THE BODY CONTROL MODULE TO FAULTY AMPS IN THE TRUNK. I STARTED TO CHECK THE HARNESS BACK TRACKING THE CIRCUIT TO THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH, THE HARNESS WAS GOOD. I REMOVED THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH AND NOTICED A LOT OF GREASE FROM THE COLUMN. I CLEANED THE SWITCH AND ASSEMBLED IT BACK TOGETHER. IT WORKED FOR ABOUT A WEEK OR TWO AND ONCE AGAIN THE RR TURN SIGNAL STOP WORKING. I PRICED A SWITCH FOR MY IMPALA FROM MY LOCAL PARTS DEALER, IT WAS OVER $300. I RESEARCHED TO SEE IF THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND WAS SURPRISED ON HOW MANY INCIDENTS WERE REPORTED. I THINK GM NEED TO BACK UP THEIR CARS AND CONSIDER THIS AS A SAFETY RECALL.

HEADLIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS, INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE ALL FLASHING. THE CAR ALSO WOULD HAVE INCIDENTS WHERE IT WOULDN'T START AND I'D HAVE TO WAIT FOR 10 MINUTES TO RESTART. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THESE PROBLEMS WERE WELL KNOWN IN GM CARS AND WERE CAUSED BY THE BCM AND PASSLOCK SYSTEM. I WAS TOLD THAT INSTALLING A NEW BCM FOR $400 WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. IMMEDIATELY, I NOTICED THAT THE FLASHING LIGHTS HAD STOPPED. A MONTH LATER, I WAS LEAVING A GROCERY STORE WHEN I TRIED TO START MY CAR AND IT WOULDN'T START. I HAD TO WAIT 10 MINUTES BEFORE IT WOULD RESTART. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM IS RESETTING ITSELF AND THE ONLY REMEDY IS TO REPLACE THE BCM AGAIN. I HAD A 1 YEAR WARRANTY ON THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BCM, SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. THE CAR WOULDN'T DO IT WHEN THEY HAD IT, SO THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT THE BCM WAS THE PROBLEM. I WAS NEVER ABLE TO GET IT REPLACED BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP. THESE PROBLEMS CONSISTED OF HEADLIGHTS FLICKERING ON AND OFF RANDOMLY, INTERMITTENT TURN SIGNAL FAILURE, AND A VARIETY OF OTHER ELECTRICAL RELATED ISSUES. DOING MINIMAL RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET SHOWS THAT MANY CONSUMERS HAVE OR ARE SUFFERING FROM THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS, AND IT APPEARS THAT THE MAJORITY OF THESE CLAIMS ARE (TEMPORARILY?) SOLVED BY REPLACING THE BODY CONTROL MODULE IN THESE VEHICLES. AFTER REPLACING MY BODY CONTROL MODULE AT THE DEALER ($600), THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF THE REPAIR. I PRESUME IT IS ALSO RELATED TO A FAULTY BODY CONTROL MODULE SINCE THAT IS WHAT MANY VOICES ON THE INTERNET SAY TO CHECK. I CALLED MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND ASKED ABOUT ANOTHER REPLACEMENT, AND THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD COST 170$ JUST TO LOOK AT IT AND THEY SAID IT WAS INSTEAD RELATED TO AN AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE (MORE ELECTRICAL). THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN MY FAMILY SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW, AND HAS EXPERIENCED A VARIETY OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, MOST OF WHICH WENT AWAY AFTER REPLACING THE BODY CONTROL MODULE. AFTER REPLACING THE BCM, SOME HAVE COME BACK ALREADY. PLEASE PUT A STOP TO THIS! IT IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT NIGHT AND HAVE MY HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY STOP WORKING OR TURN SIGNALS THAT ARE UNRELIABLE AT BEST OR AN AIRBAG THAT FAILS TO LAUNCH DURING AN ACCIDENT. THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) CAUSED MY 01 IMPALA TO DO SOME CRAZY THINGS. IT STARTED WITH TURN SIGNALS INTERMITTENTLY WORKING. MY WIFE AND I WERE IN SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OTHER DRIVERS COULD NOT TELL WHAT WE WERE DOING. THEN IT PROGRESSED TO EACH TIME THAT I APPLIED THE BREAKS THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD FLASH FROM HIGH BEAM TO LOW BEAM AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES. IT DISTRACTED THE DRIVERS IN FRONT OF ME WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. ON MANY OCCASIONS IT CAUSED THE ENTIRE DASH INSTRUMENTATION TO FAIL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE SPEEDOMETER. THE MESSAGE CENTER WOULD GIVE ME FALSE INDICATIONS OF REQUIRED MAINTENANCE AND LOW TIRE PRESSURE. TWICE IT LOCKED THE CAR OUT ON "SECURITY" THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO INTERMITTENTLY START. AFTER ABOUT 10MINUTES THE VEHICLE TYPICALLY STARTED BACKUP AGAIN. ONCE, THE VEHICLE LEFT THE HEADLIGHTS ON AFTER VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO KEEP IT FROMDRAINING THE BATTERY. AGAIN, AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES IT WOULD ALLOW SOMETHING TO RESET AND ALL WOULD BE FINE. AFTER SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON THE MAKE AND MODEL I TOOK IT TOA GM DEALER LEADING THEM TOWARDS THE BCM. I DIDN'T WANT TO PAY AN EXUBERANT AMOUNT OF MONEY FORTHEM TO CHASE AN "ELECTRICAL GHOST". AFTER $500 THEY REPLACED THE BCM AND THE VEHICLE RAN PERFECT FOR ABOUT 2 1/2 MONTHS AND NOW THE TURN SIGNALS ARE INTERMITTENT ONCE AGAIN. *TR

SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM, ABS LIGHT CONTINUE TO COME ON. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO GET SERVICED FOR THIS PROBLEM SINCE I PURCHASED IT. IT HAD ONE OF THE BEARINGS REPLACED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, BUT I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE OTHER BEARING, AND HUB SENSORS AT MY EXPENSE. THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATES FOR NO REASON AND CREATES A VIBRATION AND INABILITY TO BRAKE ON TIME. THE CAR ALSO HAS A SECURITY LIGHT COME ON INTERMITTENTLY AND THE CAR SOMETIMES DOESN'T START FOR NO APPARENT REASON. USUALLY IF WE WAIT ABOUT 30 MIN. IT WILL TURN BACK ON, BUT I HAVE HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP WHEN NOTHING WOULD TURN IT ON. WORKED FOR 3 MONTHS AND HAS FAILED AGAIN, HAS NOT AT PRESENT BEEN REPLACED/REPAIRED. CARE OF CAR WAS UPDATED AND MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO ALL REQUIREMENTS/RECOMMENDATIONS BY MANUFACTURER. I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS AND I NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH IT RIGHT AFTER I BOUGHT IT. THE SECURITY PASSLOCK SYSTEM IS EITHER NOT FUNCTIONING WELL OR IT'S DEFECTED, I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET FORUMS AND I FOUND OUT THAT ALMOST 70% OF PEOPLE THAT OWN IMPALAS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY GAVE ME AN ENORMOUS SUM FOR THE REPLACEMENT. WHY SHOULD THE BUYER PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTED WHEN THE MAJORITY OF THE OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. IT STARTED WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2003. A WEEK AFTER I HAD IT. IT WOULD NOT START AND THE BATTERY WAS NOT DEAD I THEN CALL THE DEALER AND AFTER ABOUT A HOUR I GOT IT STARTED AND TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO THEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD TO CLEAN THE CABLES AND THATS WHAT IT WAS. BUT AFTER A WEEK IT DID IT AGAIN EVERY TIME I GOT IN IT. IT WOULD NOT START BUT AFTER A WHILE IT WOULD START. SO I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY THEN SAID IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH SO THEY REPLACED IT THEY SAID. SO ABOUT A MONTH WENT BY AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE THEN IT STARTED AGAIN. SO I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER FOR A RADIATOR FLUSH BECAUSE IT KEEPED ON GETTING HOT WHICH IT STILL DOES AND I DID NOT TELL THEM ABOUT IT NOT STARTING BECAUSE IT ONLY DOES IT EVERY NOW AND AGAIN, BUT WHEN THEY WENT TO START IT, IT WOULD NOT START SO THEY PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER THING AND THEY SAID IT WAS IN THE IGNITION AGAIN SO WE TOLD THEM ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE ALOT OF TROUBLE WITH THESE CARS ALL THE TIME. SO WE PAID $320.00 TO GET IT FIXED BUT IT ACTS LIKE IT IS GOING TO DO IT AGAIN. I JUST HAVE THIS FEELING THE WAY ITS ACTING.
