My car sometimes cuts off while driving. Was on highway 301 running about 60 mph in the middle lane and just lost power no warning. No code no nothing. Sacred me, I truly feel that's a safety issue, for me and the cars behind me. It's bad not knowing when or where this will happen again.
I have a 2003 Chevrolet Impala! Look it up on the internet, and you will see that the failure rate of the GM passlock system is huge, and massively expensive to repair! In fact from a inside relative, says GM makes more money in parts, and repairs than on selling a new vehicle! This is without doubt a premeditated flow to rip off the public! This is in fact insensitive for GM to engineer a constant, and ongoing failure of the of its vehicles! This passlock defect can not be fixed by accessing the cars computer! It should be that easy but it is not a option. Being stranded by this defect is life threatening. The problem is the Passlock system that has failed for me, and hundreds of thousands owners of GM vehicles, and tens of millions of dollars in repairs that GM should be forced to repair, at no costs, past, and present to the owners, and including towing, and a rental car! The passlock defect, and failure completely locks up the cars entire electrical system, so the owner can not start, or even open the trunk of their car in a emergency! After it happens you can’t even access the car radio to reset back to the original factory functions! Even if you disconnect the battery, to get this accomplished, it will be a short while before it happens again! It is crazy expensive just to diagnose this problem! Please note that this is not just a Impala problem! This passlock defect falling involves dozens of Models of all types, old, and new. These vehicles number in the many hundreds of thousands over decades! Many tens of millions of dollars in repairs, and hundreds of thousands waiting to happen! VEHICLE FIRE. VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE CRUISING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. VERY DANGEROUS. VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS.

VEHICLE DIDN'T START, SECURITY LIGHT WAS FLASHING, WAS TOLD TO TURN THE KEY INTO THE 'ON' POSITION AND WAIT EXACTLY 10 MINUTES BEFORE TRYING TO START IT. IT WORKED, BUT THE ISSUE BECAME WORSE AND WORSE UNTIL IT NO LONGER STARTED. WAS THEN TOLD TO REPLACE KEYS, DID THAT, SAME ISSUE. WHEN BLINKERS WERE USED, A LOUD BUZZING NOISE OCCURRED AND EVERY LIGHT ON THE DASH LIT UP, THE GEAR SHIFT LABELS BEGAN FLICKERING AND THE STEREO DID AS WELL. THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THE BCM AND THE IGNITION SWITCH, AND IT HAD FINALLY STARTED, UNTIL I WENT TO TRY TO GO SOMEWHERE. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON AND MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE SAID THAT THIS ISSUE IS VERY COMMON IN THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE.
2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA 3.4L IS DIFFICULT TO START, REPLACED MANY PARTS TO TRY AND FIX: FUEL FILTER, FUEL PUMP, SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES, OXYGEN SENSORS, FUEL EVAP VALVE, AND THROTTLE CONTROL. VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 52,XXX MILES. SECURITY LIGHT FLASHES, WAS ABLE TO PULL ERROR CODE P1626: THEFT DETERRENT FUEL ENABLE SIGNAL NOT RECEIVED. KEYS ARE ORIGINAL TO CAR, I HAVE TRIED TO RE-LEARN KEYS TO VEHICLE WITH NO SUCCESS. NUMEROUS REPAIRS ARE LISTED UNDER THIS ERROR CODE, INCLUDING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BCM, AND THIS DOESN'T ALWAYS FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE RESEARCHED FURTHER.

I RECENTLY RECEIVED A ALERT FROM MY CREDIT KARMA STATING THAT I HAD A RECALL ON MY 2003 CHEVY IMPALA FOR A ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: IGNITION RECALL #213545. I PAID OUT OF POCKET TO GET THIS RECALL FIXED BACK IN FEB OF THIS YEAR AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW CAN I GET A REINBURSMENT FOR THAT RECALL.
UNDER THE HOOD FIRE AND UNINTENDED KEY ROTATION. MAYBE 5 DAYS AFTER I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO TC CHEVY (IN ASHLAND OREGON) TO HAVE THE 2 RECALLS REPAIRED ON IT. I TRIED TO START MY CAR AND IT CAUGHT ON FIRE DOWN BY THE FRONT BUMPER AND THE FLAMES MADE IT TO THE BACK SIDE OF THE MOTOR AND IGNITED THE FUEL LINES CAUSING A MINI EXPLOSION UNDER THE HOOD, MEAN WHILE I'M SITTING IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT. I JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR NEARLY HAVING THE LIFE SCARED OUT OF ME, I POPPED THE HOOD AND GRABBED MY HOUSE GARDEN HOUSE AND STARTED TO TRY AND PUT THE FIRE OUT AND MINIMIZE THE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE WHILE I WAITED FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO REACH MY HOUSE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SHOWED UP AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE FIRE PUT OUT ALMOST TORCHING ONE OF THE FIREFIGHTERS HEAD WHEN THE FUEL PUMP KICKED ON WITHOUT THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION AND STARTED SHOOTING GASOLINE REIGNITING THE FIRE. I'M LUCKY THE FIRE DIDN'T BURN DOWN MY HOUSE AND MY NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE THAT DAY SEEING HOW THE FIRE CAUGHT THE BUSH NEXT DOOR ON FIRE AND THERE WAS FLAMES 14 FT IN THE AIR. SEE CHEVY AND GM HAVE BEEN TRYING TO ACT LIKE THE FIRE AND THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE IS MY OWN FAULT AND NONE OF THEIR OWN EVEN THOUGH THE TECHNICIAN SAYS NONE OF THE REPAIRS WERE ACTUALLY DONE. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET AN INVESTIGATION DONE AND THEY'RE TRYING TO PUSH MY CLAIM ASIDE AND SWEEP IT UNDER THE RUG. THE PROBLEM STARTED AROUND THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR AND HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE TO THE POINT I AND SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR.

THE CAUSE, THEY FOUND, WAS A PERSISTENT WATER LEAK BEHIND THE GLOVE BOX WHICH CAUSED CORROSION AND CAUSED THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. WE HAVE ATTEMPTED TO HAVE THIS LEAK REPAIRED MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT ATTEMPTS ONLY SUCCEEDED TEMPORARILY, IF AT ALL. FOUND FROM INTERNET SEARCHES THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH GM VEHICLES. AS I ALSO DRIVE A 2004 IMPALA THAT HAS HAD THE SAME LEAK, I AM CONCERNED THAT ITS AIRBAGS COULD ALSO DEPLOY AT ANY TIME. WE ARE THE SECOND OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE BUT ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE CAR'S HISTORY, AS IT WAS PURCHASED FROM A FAMILY MEMBER. KELLEY BLUE BOOK VALUES IT AT $2,000 AND REPAIRS ARE ESTIMATED AT $4,000. FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF REPAIRS ON THE CAR, EXCEPTING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE: 12-20-2007- RIGHT SIDE COWL PANEL SEAL- TO FIX LEAK UNDER GLOVE BOX 5-15-2010- BODY REPAIR- GRASS FIRE GOT CLOSE ENOUGH TO BLISTER PAINT ON RIGHT SIDE OF CAR BEFORE FIRE DEPT. PUT IT OUT. (WE WEREN'T THERE TO MOVE IT.) 11-19-2013- WINDSHIELD AND GASKET- LEAKING AGAIN. 5-13-2016- REPAIR WATER LEAK- LEAKING AGAIN. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW. THERE ARE SEVERAL DIFFERENT AFTER-MARKET FIXES ON THE INTERNET THAT MECHANICALLY INCLINED PEOPLE HAVE DEVISED, BUT THIS SHOULD NOT BE NECESSARY. THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE SAFE FROM THIS PROBLEM WHEN IT ROLLS OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE.

MY TURNING SIGNALS WORK ON AND OFF ALL OF A SUDDEN. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO GET OVER AND MY RIGHT TURNING SIGNAL WOULDN'T WORK BUT THE LEFT TURNING SIGNAL WORKED FINE. THEN AFTER A DAY OR TWO THE RIGHT TURNING SIGNAL WOULD WORK BUT THEN THE LEFT TURNING SIGNAL WON'T WORK. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY WOULD BOTH WORK THEN BOTH STOP WORKING. NOW A MONTH HAS PASSED AND NEITHER ONE OF THEM WORK MOST THE TIME, BUT WILL WORK FOR A HOT SECOND AND THEN STOP WORKING. THIS IS ONLY FOR THE REAR TURNING SIGNAL THOUGH THE FRONT TURNING SIGNAL HAVE ALWAYS WORKED PROPERLY AND STILL DO.

I ABRUPTLY JERKED THE STEERING WHEEL RIGHT TO AVOID COLLISION WITH THE TRUCK, BUT THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO LOSE POWER STEERING AS WELL AS POWER BRAKES. I PICKED THE CAR UP THURSDAY NIGHT AND THE SALES LADY THAT DROVE IT AROUND SAID THAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO START THAT SHE HAD TO GET A MECHNIC TO START IT. I FOUND THE GENERAL MANAGER AND ASKED HIM TO REVERSE THE RECALL BY POPPING THE COVER OFF THE KEY. HE DID AND THE CAR STARTED WITH ONLY A SMALL GRIB TROUBLE FROM THE TUMBLER WHICH IS THOUGHT TO BE CAUSED BY THE NUMBER OF FORCED STARTS AFTER THE KEY COVER WAS PLACED ON THE KEY. AFTER INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE COVER FROM THE RECALL WAS PREVENTING MY KEY FROM GOING IN ALL THAT WAY TO THE TUMBLER TO START THE CAR. I AM ASKING THAT THE TUMBLER BE REPLACED AND A NEW SET OF KEYS BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGE DONE TO MY KEY AND THE RECALL NOT BEING EFFECTIVE WITHOUT DAMAGE TO MY TUMBLER. I TOOK IT IN ON 11/17/14 AND LEFT IT ALL DAY. BACK ON 9/29 I WAS TOLD THEY WERE GOING TO PUT A LOCKING GUARD ON THE IGNITION AND A LOCK ON EACH KEY SO THAT THE KEY WOULDN'T SLIP OUT. THE PASSLOCK FEATURE SHUTS DOWN THE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE WHEN IT DOSEN'T RECOGNIZE THE KEY. THE KEY IS THE MATCHING SET FOR THE PASSLOCK. FOR THE SHORT TIME WE HAD THE CAR WE EXPERIENCED A SHUT DOWN DURING OPERATION. LUCKY FOR US NO ONE WAS INJURED, AT APPROXMATE 45 MPH THE CAR JUST SHUT DOWN AND THE SECURITY LIGHT CAME ON. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AGAIN AND AT FIRST I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO BRING IT IN FOR A SECURITY SYSTEM RESET. THEN I WAS TOLD THAT I NEED TO REPLACE BCM WITHOUT ANYONE ACTUALLY LOOKING AT MY CAR. HIGH-BEAMS AND DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS STILL FUNCTION, BUT AT DUSK THE LOW-BEAMS WILL FAIL TO LIGHT; HOWEVER HIGH-BEAMS CAN BE USED INSTEAD CREATING A TRAFFIC HAZARD. I REPLACED THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH WITH A NEW SWITCH, AND REPLACED THE RELAY WITH A KNOWN GOOD WORKING RELAY. THE RELAY WILL STILL WORK AND ACTUATE INDICATING THAT THE RELAY IS NOT THE PROBLEM. I CHECKED THE BULBS AND THEY ARE STILL GOOD, FUSES ARE FINE, 12V POSITIVE POWER IS PRESENT AT THE BULB, BUT THE GROUND IS NOT ACTIVATED ON EITHER SIDE AT ANY TIME. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA. IN AUGUST OF 2007, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE TURN SIGNALS FAILED. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THIS INCIDENT, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED. THE CONTACT PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, LIFTED THE HOOD, AND NOTICED SMOKE RISING FROM THE ENGINE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC INFORMED HER THAT THE RADIATOR WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE REPAIRS WERE MADE, BUT THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AGAIN MONTHS LATER. IN AUGUST OF 2008, BODY WORK WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE AND AFTERWARDS THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE ON AND OFF AUTOMATICALLY. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE BODY SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE COMBINATION SWITCH. THE COMBINATION SWITCH WAS REPLACED AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE REPAIR WAS UNSUCCESSFUL; THEREFORE, THE ORIGINAL PART WAS REINSTALLED. AFTER THE FAILED ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE FAILURE, THE MECHANIC PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE COMBINATION SWITCH. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 171,920 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.

DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAD THREE (3) OTHER CARS WITH SAME PROBLEM DURING THAT ONE WEEK! SAFETY: THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED ANYWHERE SUCH AS WHILE PUMPING GAS OR STOPPING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS. THIS FEATURE LOCKS THE DOORS AUTOMATICALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PUT INTO DRIVE. DUE TO A FAILURE IN THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK, THE DOORS MUST BE MANUALLY LOCKED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INSPECTED HOWEVER THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIRS. THE DEALER DISCOVERED THE WIRING HARNESS HAD RUSTED AND CAUSED THE SYSTEMS TO FAIL. THE WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE OPERATES NORMALLY.

THE BATTERY DIED BEFORE HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP FOUND THE BCM, AND THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY STATE IT WAS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN ENOUGH. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED, AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO FURTHER PROBLEMS.*AK
MY BATTERY HAS FAILED THREE TIMES IN LESS THAN THREE YEARS AND HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN STRANDED TWICE HAVING TO WAIT OVER AN HOUR TO GET ASSISTANCE. EACH TIME I TAKE THE CAR INTO THE DEALER THEY SAY THEY CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE BATTERY WOULD FAIL SO SOON AND THEN THEY PUT IN A NEW ONE. *JB

IN TALKING TO THE MANAGER AT SEARS, WHERE I HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED, 8 OUT OF 10 AC DELCO BATTERIES THAT THEY REPLACE, FAIL THIS WAY. IN TALKING TO CHEVROLET SERVICE MANAGERS, THEY SEE THIS QUITE OFTEN. I WAS TOLD THAT AC DELCO NOW HAS BATTERIES MADE OFF SHORE. HOW LONG BEFORE CRITICAL SYSTEMS ARE AFFECTED?

IN JANUARY 2004 WE PURCHASED A PRE-OWNED 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA FROM LARRY PUCKETT CHEVROLET'S PROGRAM CAR FLEET, [XXX]. THE WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE WAS UP TO 36,000 MILES. UNTIL THE PAST 2 WEEKS WE HAVE BEEN MORE THAN PLEASED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE. ON JUNE 17, 2005 MY WIFE, HER MOTHER AND OUR TWO CHILDREN, (4 YRS. AND 10 MONTHS OLD), WERE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 85 SOUTH COMING TO MONTGOMERY FROM ATLANTA WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN AND LOSES ALL POWER. MY WIFE LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES, AT 70 MPH SHE HAD TO WRESTLE THE WHEEL AND STAND ON THE BRAKES TO DIRECT THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. AT THAT POINT, THE VEHICLE CRANKS UP FINE AND SHE COMPLETES THE TRIP. FOLLOWING THE TOTAL POWER SHUTDOWN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LARRY PUCKETT CHEVROLET FOR REPAIR. MR. DONALD BARBER WAS THE ASSOCIATE WHO WAS OUR SERVICE CONSULTANT. HE EXPLAINED TO MY WIFE FOLLOWING REPLACEMENT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT HE HAD SEEN THIS SITUATION BEFORE. THAT, WAS OF GREAT CONCERN WITH ME. HAS THIS PROBLEM CAUSED INJURY OR DEATH TO ANOTHER CONSUMER?
