The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle suddenly decelerated to approximately 20 MPH, and the instrument panel went black. The contact stated that the vehicle lost power steering functionality, and then lost motive power and stalled. The contact was assisted by persons nearby to push the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2014 CHEVEROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH AND WHEN THE CONTACT WAS EXITING OFF THE EXIT RAMP, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTED TO PUSH THE VEHICLE TO SIDE OF THE ROAD WHEN THEY NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE HOOD. THE CONTACT OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW A FIRE COMING FROM THE UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE. NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WAS A BATTERY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CHARITY TOWING AND RECOVERY (4106 S 7TH ST, PHOENIX, AZ 85040) THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED FOR CAUSED OF FAILURE. THE LOCAL DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

SOME OF THE LOCATIONS INCLUDE VERY RURAL AREAS WITH NO PHONE SIGNAL, DURING HIGH TEMPERATURE DAYS WHEN A CHILD IS PRESENT IN THE VEHICLE. TEN MINUTES IS A LONG TIME TO SIT WITH NO COOLING AVAILABLE AND NO ABILITY TO CONTACT ANYONE. THIS OCCURS WITH NO WARNING AND NO CERTAIN WEATHER. GMC IS AWARE OF THE PASSCODE/PASSKEY FAILURES BUT HAS REFUSED TO RECALL SUCH MALFUNCTIONS, EVEN THOUGH IT AFFECTS THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES.

AND THE ABS, TRAC, CHECK AND BRAKE LIGHTS WON'T GO OFF. THE SECURITY LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON AND DISABLES THE CAR NOT ALLOWING IT TO START. CAUSING ME THE BE STRANDED UNANNOUNCED AND AT ANY RANDOM TIME. STEERING WHEEL TIGHTENS AND LOOSENS AT RANDOM TIMES. AFTER RESEARCHING PAST RECALLS BEFORE MY OWNERSHIP I AM UNSURE IF MY CAR HAS HAD THE RECALL ISSUES ADDRESSED. MY CAR HAS SOME TYPE OF MANUFACTURER COMPUTER GLITCH BUT GMC DOESN'T WANT TO OWN UP TO IT. AND I'VE KEPT ALL RECEIPTS ON REPAIRS I'VE COVERED. AFTER LISTENING TO A RADIO REPORT ON NPR DESCRIBING THE PROBLEM WITH GM IGNITION SWITCH RECALLS I DECIDED TO TEST MY OWN CAR FOR RELATED PROBLEMS. AS I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY I TAPPED ON THE KEY WHILE IT WAS IN THE IGNITION AND THE KEY SWITCHED FROM ON TO ACC MODE. THIS RESULTED IN MY CAR ENGINE SHUTTING OFF, POWER STEERING LOSS, ASSISTED BRAKE MALFUNCTION, BATTERY WARNING LIGHT, AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS HAPPENED EXACTLY AS THE RADIO REPORT SAID THEY WOULD WITH A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. MY HOT COOLANT TEMP LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THEN I WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF TO LET IT COOL. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO SAID THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE HEAD GASKETS AND INTAKE GASKETS. HE RESEARCHED IT AND SAID THAT HE FOUND THAT IMPALAS FROM 20003-2007 HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINES BECAUSE OF AN ADDITIVE THAT WAS PUT IN THE ENGINE. I PAID HIM OVER 1000 DOLLARS TO FIX THE ISSUE BECAUSE BEFORE I TOOK IT TO HIM I TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS THE RADIATOR SO I GOT THAT FIXED WHICH COST ME CLOSE TO 500 DOLLARS. MY MECHANIC HAS BEEN DOING A LOT OF WORK ON THIS CAR FOR THE PAST MONTH TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY MY CAR COMPLETELY POWERS OFF IF I AM DRIVING ON THE ROAD. AFTER TAKING THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST AGAIN FOR THE 3RD TIME IT SAYS WE NEED TWO 02 SENSORS REPLACED AND A NEW MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR. ONCE WE TURNED THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION THE CAR BEGAN TO SMOKE AND BURST INTO FLAMES WE PULLED THE KEYS OUT OF THE IGNITION AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND TRIED TO PUT THE FIRE OUT BUT GAS LEAKED OUT AND MADE A HUGE FIRE. THE CAR TRIED TO START UP AND WE DID NOT HAVE THE KEYS IN THE CAR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO CUT MY CAR BATTERY OUT BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT GO OUT. FORTUNATELY MY FIANCE' AND I MADE IT OUT OF THE CAR ALIVE. CHEVY IMPALA 2004 LS- THE VEHICLE IS STOPPING COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING OR SITTING AT INTERSECTION. THERE IS NO WARNING, NO MESSAGE, IT JUST DIES. THE STEERING GOES WHEN THIS HAPPENS SO I CANNOT EVEN GET OFF THE ROAD. THEN THERE ARE TIMES THAT THE CAR WILL NOT START AT ALL AND I HAVE BEEN STRANDED. EVENTUALLY AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES THE CAR WILL START- I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE STARTER BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I HAVE HAD THE CAR CHECKED OUT AT 2 DIFFERENT SHOPS (FIRESTONE) AND THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE NO CODES COMING UP. THEY ARE COMPLETELY PERPLEXED. CHEVY STATES THEIR MECHANICS ARE BETTER. ALSO THE CLUSTER PANEL IS GONE AND CHEVY IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT THEY ONLY RECALLED CERTAIN MODELS AND DID NOT INCLUDE THE IMPALAS. I HAVE 2 ESTIMATES REGARDING FIXING THIS PROBLEM BUT THE QUOTES ARE $500.00. I DO NOT FEEL THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS WHEN CHEVY KNEW THEY HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH CLUSTER PANELS AND OMITTED THE IMPALAS IN THEIR RECALL. SO, TO RECAP: THE CAR DIES IN TRAFFIC (ALMOST HIT TWICE), I DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE, HOW FAST I AM GOING, OR IF THE CAR IS OVERHEATING. IN DEALING WITH CHEVY I WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE CAR TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP. THEY GAVE ME A PLACE THAT IS 2 1/2 HOURS HOUSE AWAY FROM MY HOME. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE THE HONOR OF PAYING FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS. IN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE PULLED UP SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CHEVY IMPALA 2004 OWNERS THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME MULTIPLE PROBLEMS. I ALSO NOTICED THAT MOST OF THE COMPLAINTS ARE STATING THAT THE SAME ISSUES OCCURRED AT APPROX. THE SAME MILEAGE AS MINE. FIRST AT BUYING MY CHEVY IMPALA IT HAD 115,000MI ON IT ALREADY BUT DESPERATELY NEEDED A CAR BEING A SINGLE MOTHER. AFTER HAVING THE CAR A LITTLE OVER A MONTH THE FUEL INJECTORS BLEW WHERE MY CAR WOULD NO LONGER START. GOT IT FIXED. NEXT I HAD TO KEEP PUTTING POWER STEERING FLUID IN (ONCE EVERY WEEK) WENT TO A MECHANIC, HE SAID MY POWER STEERING IS GOING TO EVENTUALLY GO.. I PULLED OFF TO A REST AREA, SAT THERE FOR 30MINS. REVERSED OUT OF THE PARKING LOT, PUT IT IN DRIVE, IT WOULDN'T BUDGE... NOT TO MENTION A MONTH AFTER BUYING THE CAR. THE TURN SIGNALS,, BRAKE LIGHTS, CRUISE CONTROL, FLASHERS ALL WORKED WHEN THEY WANTED TOO AND NOT WHEN I NEEDED IT TOO. CAME CLOSE TO A FEW PEOPLE RUNNING IN THE BACK OF ME DUE TO BACK LIGHTS NOT WORKING.. AND MY TEMP, GAUGE, SPEEDOMETER AND GAS GAUGE DO NOT WORK.
