I started for the first time in early June of having reduced engine power. At this time I get several warrning lights on dashboard. I get engine power is reduced, traction control and engine light. The car goes into limp mode. I replaced the accelerator pedal position sensor after the first event. Since this time I had it happen 4 more times. This situation can be dangerous if a car is behind me and I slow up real quick due to going into limp mode. I try to pull over where I can when this happens. Once I pull over for 10 minutes the car will resume like normal driving with just the engine light on. The next day the engine light usually leaves. It is hard to know when this will occur but it can be a dangerous situation to be in.

There is an electrical connector behind the right side, kick panel that overloads and chars the plastic housing. The connector is for the rear defroster grid, but it cannot handle the amperage that the grid carries. It overloads and is a fire hazard that can could start a fire in the passenger compartment. It is a very common problem on ninth generation Chevrolet Impalas, to the point there are multiple YouTube videos, offering shade tree repair advice that bypass the connector with a jumper wire. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR THAT ROUTES THE POWER TO THE REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER HAS A DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND OVERHEATS AND BURNS DUE TO IMPROPERLY SIZED CONNECTOR PINS IN WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR LOCATED NEAR THE PASSENGER KICK PANEL. THE PROBLEM IS ALSO DOCUMENTED IN A NUMBER OF SITES ON THE INTERNET INCLUDING YOUTUBE WHERE A VIDEO OF THE EXACT FAILURE WAS FOUND TO BE THE IDENTICAL FAILURE AS IN OUR IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING CAR STARTED TO JERK AND HESITATE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH A MESSAGE OF REDUCED ENGINE POWER. COULD NOT DRIVE THE DRIVE OVER 5 MPH. HAD TO BUY A SCANNER TO READ THE CODE BECAUSE THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO DRIVE TO A AUTO REPAIR SHOP OR AUTO PARTS STORE TO READ THE CODES. THE PO641 CODE WAS SET. CHECKED AND TESTED THE SENSOR WIRES FOR THE 5VOLTS EVERY ONE THAT I TESTED SHOWED OK. REPLACED THE GAS PEDAL ASSEMBLE BECAUSE OF THE CODE THAT COULD BE A SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM NO DIFFERENCE. CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY UNIT NO CHANGE CAR WILL NOT START.CHECKED AND GAVE ALL THE WIRES A GOOD PULL AND OR TUG TO WIGGLE THE CONNECTORS AND TOOK APART ALL SENSOR CONNECTIONS NO CORROSION WAS FOUND.ALL GROUNDS APPEAR TO BE GOOD. NO BROKEN WIRES ARE FOUND NO BLOWN FUSES WERE FOUND.AFTER 2 DAYS WAS ABLE TO START ENGINE WITH THE MESSAGE REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND CAR DIED AGAIN AND WOULD RESTART BUT NOT IDLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY RE WIRING THE GROUND WIRE TO THE SHIFTER WHERE THE PIN HAD BROKEN. ON MAY 3RD THE KEY GOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND WOULD NOT COME OUT. LET THE CAR SIT FOR 24 HOURS THE BATTERY DIED AND THE KEY RELEASED OUT OF THE IGNITION. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MAY 5, 2014 AND THE SHIFTER WIRES WERE RE CONSTRUCTED. I WAS GOING OVER THE VEHICLE FOR THE SEASON AND FOUND I HAD A LEAK IN THE POWER STEERING LINE. THE LINE EFFECTED WAS COVERED WITH A RIBBED PLASTIC SHEATHING LIKE WHAT IS USED FOR A WIRE HARNESSES. THE SHEATHING CAUSED ROAD SALT TO BUILD UP AND CORRODE THE LINE, CAUSING A LEAK AND LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THERE WERE TWO LINES HELD TOGETHER, SIDE BY SIDE, WITH A PLASTIC BRACKET BUT ONLY ONE OF THOSE HAD THE SHEATHING AND I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY IT WAS THERE. I ALSO FOUND A WIRE THAT OVERHEATED AND MELTED THE INSULATION AND LEFT THE WIRE BARE. IT'S LOCATED BEHIND THE POWER STEERING PUMP AS VIEWED FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT UNDER THE PLASTIC THAT DISPLAYS THE ENGINE SIZE. THE PLASTIC IS HELD DOWN WITH A COUPLE OF PINS THAT THE PLASTIC PUSHES DOWN OVER WHEN INSTALLED. THE DEALER COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT THE WIRE IS FOR WHEN I CALLED TO EXPLAIN WHAT I FOUND. *JS

THE FIRST INSTANCE I WAS DRIVING AND THE "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" FLASHED ON THE DISPLAY. I HAD ALL BRAKE PADS REPLACED AT DEALER ON 1/3/2013. 2/7/2013 I WAS IN TRAFFIC AND THE CAR SUDDENLY SLOWS TO ABOUT 10 MPH AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE THE DASH THEN DISPLAYED "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ON 2/14/2013, I HAD THE THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR REPLACED AND AT THE SAME TIME HAD THE REAR DEFROST WIRING REPAIRED BECAUSE THAT HAD NOT BEEN WORKING FOR OVER A YEAR. ON 3/4/2013 THE CAR WOULD NOT START BY THE FACTORY REMOTE START, SO WENT OUT AND STARTED THE CAR WITH THE KEY, WHEN I RETURNED TO THE CAR THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AT ALL THE CHIME WOULD SOUND THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH FLASHED BUT NO START. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES THEN TRIED AGAIN, THE CAR STARTED BRIEFLY (50 SECONDS) "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" APPEARED ON THE DASH THEN IT SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY. I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD SAW THE BATTERY ATTACHMENT WAS LOOSE, TIGHTENED THAT UP AND THEN THE CAR STARTED UP. HOWEVER, THE CAR RADIO (FACTORY RADIO NEVER REPLACED), THE CHIME, OR THE TICKING OF THE TURNING SIGNALS NO LONGER WORK. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH DEALER ON 3/14/13, BUT THE CAR SEEMS TO BE FAILING ALL AROUND. SINCE I HAVE HAD MY IMPALA I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE CA. THE FIRST PROBLEM THAT I NOTICED WAS THAT MY WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID STOP COMING OUT AFTER ON HAVING THE CAR A FEW MONTHS, I LATER FOUND OUT THAT THE MOTOR HAD GONE OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT EITHER CARBON WAS STUCK IN THE VALVE OR THE SOLENOID WAS FULL OF WATER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. ALSO, THE CABLE TO THE BATTERY WAS CORRODED. TWO MECHANICS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CAUSED BY NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 73,000. AFTER SIX DAYS AND $150 IN EXPENSES FOR ANOTHER CAR THE GM DEALER REPORTED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A "BROKEN GROUND WIRE" IN THE "SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID CONNECTOR" [INSIDE THE CENTRE CONSOLE WHERE THE SHIFT LEVER IS LOCATED]. THE COST OF REPAIR WAS $137. MY INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWS THIS PROBLEM OCCURS OFTEN IN CHEVROLET IMPALAS, WHICH SUGGESTS THAT THE PROBLEM IS IN THE DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM COULD BE LIFE THREATENING IF THE PROBLEM OCCURS IN A REMOTE AREA AT THIS TEMPERATURE. I THOUGHT THIS WAS A POWER TRAIN PROBLEM SINCE THE PART ALLOWS THE TRANSMISSION TO ENGAGE, AND THEREFORE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. GM CLAIMS IT IS NOT PART OF THE POWER TRAIN. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE LIFE THREATENING, IS A DEFECT IN DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE, AND THAT THE PROBLEM IS A POWER TRAIN PROBLEM AND THEREFORE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

WHILE DRIVING, THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WHERE THE DASH LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHT WILL FLICKER. ON A FEW OCCASIONS, THE INSTRUMENT DISPLAY WOULD ACTUALLY GO OUT FOR A SECOND, AND AT THE SAME TIME THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD DIM TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM NOTED AT ALL SPEEDS, AND IS A DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVER, ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AND TRAFFIC BEING FOLLOWED! RIGHT AFTER I HIT 36,000 MILES ON MY CAR, I STARTED HEARING A CLUNK SOUND FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. I BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE GENTLEMAN TOLD ME IT WAS PROBABLY THE STEERING SHAFT. I ASKED IF THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM, AND IF IT WAS COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD YES, IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM, AND NO, ITS ONLY COVERED UNDER THE 36000 MILE WARRANTY. NOT THE 50,000. I ASKED WHY THIS ISN'T COVERED SEEING AS ITS A PART THAT SHOULD NEVER GO ON YOUR CAR, ESPECIALLY AFTER ONLY 36000 MILES. HIS REPLY SHOCKED ME WHEN HE SAID THAT ALL THE ONES HE'S SEEN BREAK BEFORE THE 36,000! ADDED ONTO THIS, MY CAR REMOTE JUST STOPPED WORKING, AS WELL AS MY TIRE MONITOR SYSTEM IS UNABLE TO BE RESET! 140 MPH SPEEDOMETER CAN'T BE READ PROPERLY WHILE DRIVING. EVEN WITH NEW GLASSES THIS GAGE IS FOR KILOMETERS ONLY. WE NEED A NEW DIAL THAT SHOWS MPH READABLE TO 2 1/2 MPH. THERE IS NO REASON IN THIS USA TO HAVE A SPEEDOMETER TO GO TO 140 MPH. 2 TIMES THE LEGAL SPEED LIMIT IN THE USA. WHEN SPENDING $25,000 ON THIS NEW CHEVY IMPALA, ONE WOULD NOT EVEN THINK THAT GM IS SO CHEAP TO SAME MONEY ON THE SPEEDOMETER DIAL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT CONTINUES TO ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. ONCE THIS OCCURS, ALL OF THE OTHER INDICATORS ILLUMINATE AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILS. SHE HAS NOT NOTICED THIS FAILURE IN OTHER VEHICLES SUCH AS THE ONE SHE OWNS. SHE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER, BUT THEY HAVE YET TO RESPOND. THE DEALER FROM WHERE SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE STATED THAT IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, THEREFORE, SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY $89 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE DIAGNOSTIC WAS NOT PERFORMED. THE SPEED AND POWERTRAIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 37,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE VEHICLE AT 15 MPH THROUGH A PUDDLE OF WATER THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES ,AND THE SERPENTINE BELT AND TENSIONER WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED ON A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, BUT THE CAUSE OF FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE 5,600, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,200. *AK THE DEALER STATED HAD TO PERFORM ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC AND VERIFIED AIR BAG LIGHT ON AND TIRE MONITOR SYSTEM WAS ON, THE DEALER REPAIRED BOTH DEFECTS. I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY IMPALA WITH 7800 MILES ON IT. IN JANUARY, MY SERVICE TPMS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON IN MY DASH. IT WOULD GO OFF AFTER A FEW MINUTES. I ALSO NOTICED AT THE SAME TIME THAT MY REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY AND REMOTE START DID NOT WORK MORE THAN 10 FEET AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP (GRAFF CHEVROLET) AND THEY INFORMED ME OF AN ANTENNA THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE FOR AN UNDETERMINED AMOUNT OF TIME. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT CHECK TO SEE IF THE TMPS SENSOR IN THE LEFT REAR TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE LIKE I ASKED THEM TO. THEY SAID THE NEW UNRELEASED PART SHOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY DON'T KNOW FOR SURE. THE LEFT REAR SENSOR WOULD ALWAYS TRIGGER THE WARNING LIGHT, BUT THE TIRE IS PROPERLY INFLATED. NOT BEING ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS MAKING ME THINK THAT I HAVE A FLAT TIRE ON MY CAR EVERY TIME THE LIGHT GOES ON. *NM
