Smelled an odor of burning wires when using rear defroster. Defroster then stopped working. After further troubleshooting I observed the wire pigtail under the front passenger door was charred and burned. The pin inside the harness that was burned was the rear defroster. After further research I found this is very common for the Chevy impala. However no recall existed. I feel it is a fire risk due to the fact that the wires over heated enough to melt and char the plastic surrounding the electrical pin within the harness. Pictures was taken of the damage.

I have a 2009 with 77000 miles 0n it I have fix the knocking noise under dash 3 times now it is a actuator there are 2 of them. I have also found by spraying Carburetor cleaner in the throttle body just remove the the big air hose and spray all around in side this stops the the speed reduction control lite from coming on saying you have no power. The problem I'm having now is while I'm driving the dash lights go out and radio light goes dim. after a while the lights come back on bright and working great they go on and off when they want to The lights showing me the mileage works great all the time its just the dash lights going on and off and my car just pass smog in California in June. I now live in Texas ,I have to have my car inspection here and it failed do to a EVAP and a 02 sensor not responding. They tell cause I replace the battery this cause the computer to reset and these 2 sensors have not reset yet and I have to drive the car 100 miles to make sure they reset to the computer So these are the problems I have been having with my car. You can find your car problem on you tube by putting in the year and make of your car saying what light came up and usually its a easy fix

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that upon attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start as intended. The contact then observed smoke coming from the engine compartment. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the wiring harness and observed that the wiring was exposed. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V355000 (Electrical System), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 222,000.

Driving home one night, August 8th, 2023 (thank goodness it was night) took a turn and got a service traction control light with a ding ding ding noise (I assume to alert me that something is wrong) and then it said engine power reduced which I assume happens because if your traction control is bad, it doesn’t want you slipping. Immediately called my father and he said to just drive it home and we’ll check it out. Not 2 miles later, my engine just stopped and it went into ignition. I couldn’t steer, I couldn’t stop because the engine was no longer running. I’ve driven a time or 2 (more like backed up) when I didn’t turn my key all the way and it was in ignition and that’s how it felt because it wasn’t on. This was very scary because I thought the car had just gave out. The engine just stopped and I got warning saying "STARTING DISABLED, SERVICE ENGINE THROTTLE " this is my first car, and after reading the complaints on it, I thought it was a recall. We ended up changing out the gas pedal, which made the problem go away right away, and I haven’t had issues with it since. Failure Mileage: 175K

While driving the car it would pop up a message saying “ENGINE POWER REDUCED”. Today while driving it home it popped up with a message saying “STARTING DISABLED, SERVICE THROTTLE” and then the car wouldn’t drive and I had to pull over on the side of the road. For months now when I drive and accelerate at times the car would almost grind. I believe it has to do with the traction control or the transmission.

CAR CONTINUOUSLY GETS A REDUCED POWER MESSAGE AND GOES DOWN TO 25 MPH. IN MID JANUARY DID THE SAME THING, BUT STALLED ON I90 OHIO TURNPIKE. ALMOST HIT BY A SEMI TRUCK. HAVE HAD THE CAR IN THE SHOP NO LESS THAN 5 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. AT GM AND NON GM REPAIR SHOPS. WE HAVE HAD THIS SAME REDUCED POWER ON CITY ROADS, AND THE HIGHWAY, IT SEEMS ALWAYS WHEN IT IS WET, RAINY OR SLUSHY. IT REALLY APPEARS TO BE A WATER CAUSES THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE PAID FOR TWO SETS OF THROTTLE BODY, SPEED CONTROL SENSOR AND HARNESSES. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO PERSIST AND APPEARS TO BE DANGEROUS.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I HAVE A 2009 CHEVY IMPALA WITH 100,000 MILES ON IT. THE 1ST TIME THIS ISSUE HAPPENED, I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY, ON A SIDE STREET, IN JULY 2019. OUT OF THE BLUE, THE FOLLOWING WARNINGS APPEARED: ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED, SERVICE STABILITRAK, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL. IMMEDIATELY MY CAR STARTED RUNNING HORRIBLY (IT DIDN'T WANT TO GO, WAS CHUGGING, AND ALMOST FELT LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING). I PARKED IT. LATER I STARTED IT AND ALL WARNINGS WERE GONE, BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. . THE NEXT DAY I STARTED IT AND JUST THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. 3RD DAY I STARTED IT, ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. DROVE IT TO A SHOP,.RIGHT BEFORE I PULLED IN, THE LIGHT TURNED OFF! THEY SCANNED IT ANYWAY & SAID THAT NOTHING CAME UP. THE CAR HAS DRIVEN JUST FINE, NO WARNINGS OR LIGHTS UNTIL 11/25/2020. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 20MPH, TURNED RIGHT ON A SIDE STREET AND ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL OF THE EXACT MESSAGES AS BEFORE CAME ON. VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY STARTED RUNNING SLOW AND "CHUGGING"AGAIN. I PARKED IT. WHEN I STARTED IT AGAIN LATER, ALL THE SAME MESSAGES WERE STILL THERE. IT'S DEFINITELY SCARY WHEN THIS HAPPENS & SINCE THE 1ST TIME IT HAPPENED, I WAS NERVOUS TO DRIVE IT FAR BECAUSE I WASN'T SURE WHEN IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN. I WENT ON A CHEVROLET FORUM & READ THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. I WAS VERY PLEASED ABOUT THAT. I PUT IN MY VIN & IT STATED THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS. SO I CALLED GM THIS MORNING. THE REP SAID THEY'RE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, BUT THERE IS NOT A RECALL FOR IT. SHE THEN SAID THAT IT WOULD'VE COVERED BY SPECIAL WARRANTY BUT UNFORTUNATELY THAT WAS UNAVAILABLE AS OF APRIL 2019! HER ADVICE WAS TO TAKE IT TO A CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP AND HAVE IT CHECKED AND FIXED SOON FOR MY SAFETY! I ASKED WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL, IF IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE AND SHE SAID I COULD TALK TO A CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP AND MAYBE THEY COULD DO SOMETHING FOR ME. PLEASE HELP!

THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. ON THE HWY GOING 60MPH, ALL OF A SUDDEN MY ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED AND AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. THE NEXT DAY THE AIR BAG LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT ARE BOTH ON. WENT TO MY MECHANIC FOR AN INSPECTION (WHICH I FAILED DUE TO THE AIRBAG) AND HE INFORMED ME TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP FOR RECALL. I DID, ONLY TO FIND OUT THE RECALL IS CLOSED AND I CAN'T GET THIS FIXED UNLESS I COME UP WITH A LOT OF MONEY. I EXPLAINED I NEVER GOT ANYTHING FROM THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT THE RECALL. HOW CAN I GET MY CAR FIXED ON A CLOSED RECALL?

THE LAST TIME IN DECEMBER 2029 AND IT STARTED CLICKING A FEW WEEKS AFTER REPAIR. IT STARTS CLICKING AS SOON AS I UNLOCK THE DOORS AND CONTINUES TO CLICK AFTER LOCKING DOORS. I RETIRED DUE TO HEALTH FIVE YEARS AGO AND UNABLE TO GET ANOTHER CAR. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO KEEP REPAIRING ACTUATORS. I HAVE WRITTEN TO GM AND CALLED ASKING THAT THIS BE MADE INTO SOMETHING THEY WOULD REPAIR NO CHARGE AS I HAVE SINCE TALKED WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE TO USE THE THE CAR DRIVE MY HUSBAND TO VA FOR TREATMENTS AND DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS AND IT GET VERY WORRISOME AS I HAVE TO DRIVE 140 MILES ROUND TRIP EACH TIME. I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK ON THE STREET IN MY COMMUNITY, AND LEFT IT RUNNING WHILE DROPPING SOMETHING IN A MAILBOX. TRIED TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE TO LEAVE, AND IT WOULD NOT SHIFT. MY FOOT WAS FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE BUT THE CONSOLE SHIFTER WOULD NOT BUDGE. I WAS FORCED TO LEAVE MY CAR JUST A FEW DOORS AWAY FROM HOME UNTIL THE NEXT DAY WHEN MY SON CAME AND SHOWED ME HOW TO REMOVE THE CONSOLE COVER TO PRESS THE SILVER BUTTON AND RELEASE THE SHIFT. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT A BTSI (?) SOLENOID OR LOOSE WIRES. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL? BEING STUCK COULD BE VERY HAZARDOUS TO SAFETY.

I HAVE WALKED AWAY FROM THE CAR THINKING I HAD LOCKED IT ONLY TO FIND ONE OR MORE OF THE DOORS DID NOT LOCK. ACTUALLY HAD ITEMS TAKEN FROM THE CAR. THE CLICKING NOISE FROM UNDER THE DASH WAS SPORADIC, USUALLY UPON STARTING THE CAR, BUT OCCASIONALLY WHILE DRIVING WITH NO NOTICE. THIS EAR SPLITTING, HEADACHE INDUCING NOISE WOULD FOR THE MOST PART STOP AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF DRIVING, BUT WOULD SOMETIMES CONTINUE AFTER THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND WOULD DRAIN THE BATTERY. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THROUGHOUT THE CAR IS HORRIBLE.

THEIR OWN MECHANIC STATED BOTH VERBALLY AND IN WRITING (IN THE WORK ORDER) THAT THE RECALLED WIRES SHORTED CAUSING THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR. NO ONE WILL TELL US WHY THAT CHANGED ONCE OUR CAR WAS TOWED TO THEM AS WE WOULD NEVER HAVE TOWED IT TO THEM IF THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE CASE. ADDITIONALLY, NO ONE HAS TOLD US WHY OR WHO THE SOMEONE IS WHO DISAGREED WITH THEIR OWN MECHANIC (AND 3 ADDITIONAL MECHANICS SUBSEQUENTLY) AND MADE THE DETERMINATION THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE SHORT AND RELATED DAMAGES. I HAVE BEEN CHARGED 99$ PER VISIT TO JONES CHEVROLET AND STILL HAVE THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT ON MY VEHICLE. IT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME AND INTERMITTENTLY GOES AWAY ONCE IN A BLUE MOON. IT STARTED OFF WITH THE LIGHT JUST TURNING ON WHEN I HIT A BUMP OR A ROUGH ROAD BUT NOW EVEN ON THE HIGHWAY IT COMES ON. GM CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLD ME THAT AN AIR BAG ISSUES IS THE CUSTOMERS RESPONSIBILITY AFTER MY WARRANTY IS UP HOWEVER THE AIR BAG HAS NEVER DEPLOYED OR THE CAR HAS NEVER GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT SO I AM AT A LOSS AS TO WHY IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR OF SUCH AN INTEGRAL SAFETY PART OF THE VEHICLE WHICH SHOULD LAST AND FUNCTION WITHOUT ISSUES FOR AT LEAST A LITTLE WHILE IF NOT FOR A LONG TIME AFTER THE INITIAL WARRANTY IS UP. A FEW MONTHS AGO, GM ATTORNEY TOLD ME TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO A GM DEALERSHIP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND THE RECALL REPAIRS WOULD BE DONE AT NO COST TO ME. I MADE HIM AWARE THAT MY VEHICLE HAD ALREADY BEEN SITTING AT A GM DEALERSHIP FOR MONTHS WAITING FOR THE REPAIR AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO REPAIR IT AND WILL NOT PROVIDE A RENTAL VEHICLE. PRIOR TO THE RECALL, I HAD NUMEROUS STEERING ISSUES AND HAD TAKEN IT TO GM DEALERSHIPS JUST TO HAVE THEM RETURN IT WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF, I WAS IN A BAD CRASH AND THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY, RESULTING IN ME GOING THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD.

THEN I NOTICED THE STEERING WAS HARDER ON SLIGHT CURVES; THEN I NOTICED THE TACHOMETER GOING TO ZERO AND SONE OTHER GAUGES DECREASING; THEN I HAD TO SLOW FOR A CHARPER CURVE WHERE I HAD NO POWER BRAKE ASSIST AND NO POWERING STEERING ASSIST. I MANAGED TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP WHERE I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER A SHORT CRANKING BUT ACTED IF IT WAS STARVING FOR FUEL. ONCE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE RAN SATISFACTORY, IF I HAD BEEN A WEAK PERSON OR HAD PANICKED THIS INCIDENT WOULD PROBABLY HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH. THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL HAD RECENTLY BEEN ACCOMPLISHED. THE FUEL LEVEL WAS 1/2 TANK. AS AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER THIS APPEARED TO BE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WHERE THE ENGINE POWER WAS CUT OFF SHUTTING DOWN THE FUEL PUMP, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, IGNITION, AND ELECTRIC STEERING ASSIST.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC GOING APPROXIMATELY 65 PER HOUR AND THE SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL CAME ON AND THEN SAID THAT ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED. THEN ON 6/29/15 THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. HOWEVER THIS TIME THE CAR SAID THROTTLE DISABLED AND THE CAR SHUT OFF COMPLETELY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY AND I HAD TO TRY AND GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. AFTER ABOUT 10 OR 15 MINUTES THE CAR THEN STARTED BACK UP AND THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN. THEN LATER IN THE DAY I RETURNED HOME AND TRIED TO LEAVE IN MY CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START AND HAD NO POWER WHAT SO EVER. THE KEY ALSO WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION AND I JUST HAD THAT RECALL DEALT WITH ON THE KEY. I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN THIS LAST INCIDENT. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND GM NEEDS TO PAY FOR WHAT I AM OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE I NOW HAD TO GET A RENTAL CAR TO WORK. I HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO MOVE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TRIED TO START THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES. THE ENGINE DID NOT CRANK AND THE MESSAGE CONTINUED TO FLASH. I COMPLETELY TURNED THE KEY OFF AND SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES. I WAS ABOUT TO CALL FOR A TOW TRUCK WHEN I TRIED AGAIN. THE ENGINE STARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE HOME WITH NO ISSUES. THEN A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER THAT SEEMS TO HAVE WENT AWAY BUT NOW IT TAKES ABOUT 2 MINUTES TO GET THE AC TO SWITCH FROM DEFROST TO BLOWING OUT OF THE DASH VENTS. YOU CAN STILL HEAR IT ON, BUT IT DOESN'T ACTUALLY START BLOWING FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES. STILL, NOT A BIG DEAL. THEN I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 15MPH(NEAR A SCHOOL) WHEN A LOW OIL PRESSURE POWER OFF ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WENT OFF QUICKLY, I PULLED OVER AND CUT THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, NO MORE ISSUES. A FEW DAYS LATER MY SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT STARTED COMING ON RANDOMLY, HMM, SO IF THAT LIGHT IS ON WILL MY AIR BAGS DEPLOY IF NEEDED? NOT SURE... THEN I GET ALARMS THAT SOMEONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS NOT BUCKLED IN, BUT THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THEN MY CAR STARTS CUTTING OFF RANDOMLY WHILE I'M DRIVING. THE ACTUATORS IN ALL FOUR OF MY ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. THE CAR CAN ONLY BE UNLOCKED MANUALLY, WHICH IS A MAJOR ISSUE SINCE THE DRIVER DOOR IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WILL OPEN FROM OUTSIDE THE CAR WITH A KEY. WE HAVE THREE CHILDREN USING CAR SEATS WHICH MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH ONE OF THE DOORS FROM THE FRONT SEAT, SINCE ONE OF THE SEATS IS REAR FACING (BY LAW). THE CHILDREN ARE NOT CAPABLE OF UNLOCKING THE DOORS ON THEIR OWN OR UNBUCKLING THEIR OWN CAR SEAT RESTRAINTS. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, I WAS GOING DOWN HILL ON A LOCAL STREET WHEN MY WARNING SYSTEM CAME ON AND INDICATED THAT I HAD REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND TRACTION STABILITY CONTROL ISSUES. AFTER GOING TO THE DEALER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MY OIL WAS EXTREMELY LOW, HOWEVER NO LEAKS OR CAUSE WAS EVER FOUND. PRIOR TO THIS, I HAD TO GET MY ACCELERATOR SENSOR REPLACED BECAUSE THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER WARNING CAME ON. IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND I HAD TO PAY SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO 'FIX' THE ISSUE. AS RECENTLY AS YESTERDAY, JUNE 16, 2014, I TURNED MY CAR ON AND THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE CAR OFF AND CHECKED THE OIL. IT WAS LOW BUT NO WARNING LIGHT TO INDICATE THIS ISSUE CAME ON (SAME AS IN THE PAST). I FAITHFULLY GET MY OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES OR 3 MONTHS, WHICHEVER IS FIRST. MY OIL LIFE WAS AT 54% YESTERDAY AND I DID TAKE IT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE THIS MORNING. IT IS OBVIOUS BASED ON OTHERS EXPERIENCES, THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AMONGST 2009 IMPALA OWNERS. THE FACT THAT I DID NOT RECEIVE A WARNING WHEN I WAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND MY CAR SHUT OFF WHILE STILL IN MOTION, IS EXTREMELY SCARY AND IT TRAUMATIZED MY SON TREMENDOUSLY. CLIMBING UP ALPOWA GRADE ON HIGHWAY 12 IN WASHINGTON STATE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED" CAME ON IN THE ODOMETER WINDOW. APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES LATER, BEYOND DODGE JUNCTION AND BEFORE STARBUCK TURNOFF, THERE WAS ANOTHER MESSAGE FLASHED IN THE ODOMETER WINDOW, "IGNITION SWITCH DISABLED. SERVICE ENGINE" THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, AND THE POWER STEERING BECAME SUPER SLUGGISH. THE CAR SLOWED DOWN, AND WE WERE ABLE TO GET STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AT THIS POINT WHEN WE GOT THE CAR RUNNING AGAIN, THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT WORK. WHEN WE REACHED WALLA WALLA, WASHINGTON, WE STOPPED AT O'REILYS AUTO PARTS, HAD ONE OF THE PARTS SPECIALISTS COME OUT AND CHECK WHAT THE CODE WAS ON THE COMPUTER, AND FOUND OUT IT WAS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SENSOR THAT IS DEFECTIVE. THIS IS A PILOT CAR ESCORT VEHICLE, MAKING THE HAZARD EVEN MORE DANGEROUS, BECAUSE HAD I BEEN TRAVELING WITH AN OVERSIZED LOAD, I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY THE SEMI PULLING THE LOAD, OR I COULD HAVE IMPACTED THE REAR OF THE LOAD, DEPENDING IF I WERE FOLLOWING OR LEADING. ALSO, HAD THAT HAPPENED WHILE ON A JOB, THE LOAD WOULD HAVE HAD TO STOP UNTIL ANOTHER PILOT CAR ESCORT VEHICLE COULD ARRIVE TO CONTINUE WITH THE LOAD. WHILE DRIVING, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL WILL COME ON ALONG WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT, AND THEY FLICKER ON AND OFF, AND CAUSE THE CAR TO JERK, THE LOCKS TO RELOCK, MY FUEL GAUGE TO GO OUT OF PLACE, AND SOMETIMES CAUSE THE CAR TO TURN OFF. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO AN ACTUAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR BECAUSE THEY TRIED AND NO PROBLEMS WERE DIAGNOSED WHEN THEY USED THE SCAN TOOL. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH CHEVY IMPALAS, HOWEVER GM REFUSES TO DO A RECALL. SOMEONE WILL DIE AGAIN AT THEIR HANDS. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, ALL OF A SUDDEN A "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" MESSAGE POPS UP, THEN "REDUCED ENGINE POWER", THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOSES POWER AND THE SPEED IS CUT ALMOST IN HALF VERY ABRUPTLY. ONE TIME, THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST ALL ELECTRICAL AND POWER WHILE TRAVELING AT 65MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. I WAS STUCK WITH NO POWER STEERING, NO POWER BRAKES, ETC AND HAD TO NAVIGATE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT KILLING MYSELF. 2009 IMPALA, OWNED SINCE 2011. STARTED TO GIVE US ISSUES A YEAR AFTER PURCHASE WHERE WE WOULD GET NO CRANK, NO START. REPLACED BATTERY THINKING IT WAS THE ISSUE. IT WORKED FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND STARTED OVER AGAIN. NO CRANK, NO START. REPLACED STARTER WITH AUTOZONE BRAND AND IT WORKED FINE A FEW DAYS. IT STARTED TO HAPPEN AGAIN, NO CRANK, NO START. REPLACED STARTER WITH OEM FROM GM. IT WORKED FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THE ISSUE STARTED TO HAPPEN AGAIN. NO CRANK, NO START. REPLACED STARTER RELAY, PULLED BCM AND CLEANED ALL CONTACTS. AFTER CLEANING BCM CONTACTS IT SEEMED TO OF WORKED BUT A FEW WEEKS LATER IT GAVE US THE SAME PROBLEM. CHANGED IGNITION SWITCH AND CONTINUED TO HAVE THE SAME NO CRANK, NO START ISSUES. WE JUST CONTINUED TO LIVE WITH IT. THE CAR CRANKS AFTER 5 OR 6 TURNS OF THE KEY AND BECAME APART OF OUR DAILY LIFE. NOW THE BIG ISSUE IS THE CAR TURNED OFF ON US WHILE DRIVING A FEW DAYS AGO. LET IT SIT 30 MINS. AND TRIED TO CRANK BUT WE WERE GETTING NO CRANK NO START. IT EVENTUALLY CRANKED AND STARTED BUT I'M WORRIED BECAUSE I HAVE MY GRAND KIDS WITH ME OFTEN AND FEAR IF IM ON THE HIGHWAY I CAN GET INTO A SERIOUS COLLISION. AIRBAG LIGHT HAS CAME ON SINCE THEN AND CAN'T AFFORD TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. I HAVE OWNED MY IMPALA SINCE MARCH 2010 AND WHILE IT IS AN ATTRACTIVE CAR, I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES. THE CAR THEN BECAME SLUGGISH AND SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 15-20 MPH. IT THEN SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING AND IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I HAD MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR WITH ME AND THANK GOD TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT BECAUSE WITH THAT HAPPENING IT WAS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR FOR A FEW YEARS AND THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL YET. IS GM WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DIE. STOPPED AT THE TOP OF A SNOW COVERED HILL. PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN 2ND GEAR AND PROCEEDED DOWN THE HILL. THE VEHICLE GOT UP TO ABOUT 15 MPH THEN LOST ALL POWER; ENGINE QUIT, NO BRAKES, AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED IN PLACE. BECAUSE THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING THE VEHICLE GAINED SIGNIFICANT SPEED GOING DOWNHILL. NOT BEING ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED IT WENT OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A TREE. UPON IMPACT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. AS A RESULT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER WERE SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW MONTHS, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOOSE POWER AND SEVERAL MESSAGES APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE REAR POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS HAVE FAILED. THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR LOCK FAILED FIRST, THEN A FEW THOUSAND MILES LATER THE DRIVER SIDE ACTUATOR FAILED. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT BUT WITH A 90%+ OCCURRENCE OF FAILURE. ONE OR BOTH WILL FAIL FOR WEEKS AT A TIME, BUT MAY OCCASIONALLY SURPRISE YOU AND WORK ONCE OR TWICE. THE FAILURE IS IN BOTH THE LOCK AND UNLOCK MODES. THE FAILURE IS UNRELATED TO USING KEYLESS ENTRY OR THE MANUAL SWITCH OR HAVING CHILD SAFETY LOCKS ON OR OFF. IT IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH THE REAR DOOR TOP MANUAL LATCH POST FROM THE FRONT SEAT. ON ONE OCCASION I WAS TRYING TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR FROM THE FRONT SEAT. MY HEAD/NECK BECAME TRAPPED BETWEEN THE SIDE OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND THE DOOR PILLAR. I WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE MY NECK UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO REACH THE SEAT ADJUSTING MECHANISM AND MOVE THE SEAT FORWARD. IN THE PROCESS OF THAT I AGGRAVATED A CHRONIC BACK CONDITION PULLING A MUSCLE IN MY BACK. AN INTERNET SEARCH OR DISCUSSION WITH REPAIR SHOPS WILL QUICKLY REVEAL THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE FOR MANY 2008-2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA, TAHOE, MALIBU AND SILVERADO OWNERS. DUE TO THE APPROXIMATE $365 PER DOOR REPAIR COST, THE DEFECTIVE LATCHES ARE NOT BEING REPLACED BY MANY OWNERS. CHEVROLET IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND OFFERS NO REPAIR ASSISTANCE. IN A CRASH SITUATION THE CRASH COMPUTER SEQUENCE CANNOT BE RELIED ON ACTUATE THE DEFECTIVE LOCK ACTUATORS. THE POSITION OF THE MANUAL LOCK POST DOES NOT FACILITATE MANUAL OPERATION WITHOUT EXTREME CONTORTION OF THE BODY. I-40 EAST BOUND; 60 MPH; COMING DOWN A 4 TO 7% GRADE THROUGH THE SMOKEY MOUNTAINS, NORTH CAROLINA SIDE; 1ST ERROR: "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL, REDUCED ENGINE POWER, SERVICE ENGINE. APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES LATER 2ND ERROR: "STARTING DISABLE,SERVICE THROTTLE" LOST ALL POWER TO VEHICLE. A VERY DANGEROUS AND FRIGHTENING EVENT HAVING NO CONTROL OF YOUR SPEED, STEERING, AND BRAKING TRYING TO GET OFF TO THE SIDE OF I-40 WITH THE TYPE OF GRADE, TRACTOR TRAILER TRUCKS THAT CAN NOT SLOW DOWN FAST ENOUGH TO LET YOU OVER. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL OF THE DOORS REMAINED LOCKED AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE LOCKED OR OPENED MANUALLY, ONLY BY USING THE ELECTRONIC KEY REMOTE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FOR ALL FOUR DOORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,700.

TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON 2 LANE ROAD, CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED THEN VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. LIGHTS AND RADIO WORKED BUT VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES VEHICLE CRANKED AND STARTED AND WAS DRIVABLE. TOOK TO CHEVROLET DEALER WHO MADE REPAIRS BY REPLACING 24 TERMINALS. VERBALLY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS CORROSION ON WIRES ON THIS 2 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH BARELY 60,000 MILES. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON A MULTILANE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY SHUTTING DOWN LIKE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. *TR

I NOTICED SOME TIME BACK THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THAT I WOULD GET A ROUGH VIBRATION, SUCH AS WITH BAD ROTORS. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER THAT I PURCHASED IT AT AND THEY LOOKED IT OVER AND STATED THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE. SINCE THEN EVERYTIME I HIT THE BRAKES THE VIBRATIONS HAVE ONLY GOTTEN WORSE, IT'S TO THE POINT NOW THAT IT VIOLENTLY SHAKES THE ENTIRE CAR AND FEELS AS IF IT'S GOING TO JERK THE STEERING WHEEL RIGHT OUT OF MY HANDS. SO I MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT FOR THIS ISSUE AND A NEW ONE; SOMETIMES MY DASH LIGHTS WILL FLICKER AND IT WILL TELL ME IT'S 102 OUTSIDE WHEN IT'S ONLY 70 AND AUTOMATIC TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR IS WAY, WAY OFF. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED RECENTLY THAT MY FRONT TIRES HAVE BECOME EXCESSIVELY WORN ON THE OUTER EDGES TO WHERE THERE IS ONLY TREAD IN THE CENTER AND THIS SHOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM WITH ONLY 21,500 MILES ON THE VEHICLE; I SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET ABOUT TWICE THAT OUT OF THE FACTORY TIRES. AT MY LAST APPOINTMENT THEY HAVE STILL SAID THERE IS NO NOTABLE PROBLEMS WITH MY IMPALA. *TT

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN HER VEHICLE WENT HAYWIRE. THE LIGHTS WOULD FLASH ON AND OFF, THE AIR CONDITIONER FAILED INTERMITTENTLY, THE HEATING UNIT WAS INOPERABLE, AND THE DOORS WOULD LOCK AND UNLOCK BY THEMSELVES. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND WOULD NOT START. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO MAKE SEVERAL REPAIRS TO CORRECT THE FAILURES, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. IT WAS LATER DISCOVERED THAT THE AFTERMARKET ALARM SYSTEM WAS WIRED INCORRECTLY AND CAUSED THE ELECTRICAL FAILURES. THE DEALER REFUSED TO MAKE REPAIRS AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL GENERAL MOTORS TO SEE IF THEY WOULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE. GENERAL MOTORS ALLOWED THE DEALER TO MAKE THE REPAIRS, BUT THE NECESSARY PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER. THERE WERE 82 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 472.
