A piece broke off and had fallen off of transmission when stopped at a redlight when put in gear car didn't want to move had to manually shift to get off the road and towed it home. The piece that broke fell into pan when changing transmission fluid. Believe it's off flywheel possibly forward band.

CAR CONTINUOUSLY GETS A REDUCED POWER MESSAGE AND GOES DOWN TO 25 MPH. IN MID JANUARY DID THE SAME THING, BUT STALLED ON I90 OHIO TURNPIKE. ALMOST HIT BY A SEMI TRUCK. HAVE HAD THE CAR IN THE SHOP NO LESS THAN 5 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. AT GM AND NON GM REPAIR SHOPS. WE HAVE HAD THIS SAME REDUCED POWER ON CITY ROADS, AND THE HIGHWAY, IT SEEMS ALWAYS WHEN IT IS WET, RAINY OR SLUSHY. IT REALLY APPEARS TO BE A WATER CAUSES THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE PAID FOR TWO SETS OF THROTTLE BODY, SPEED CONTROL SENSOR AND HARNESSES. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO PERSIST AND APPEARS TO BE DANGEROUS.

WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR IN MOTION IT COMPLETELY LOSES POWER. HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS WHILE ON HIGHWAY, INTERSTATE, AND IN TOWN ROADS. SO PROBLEM OCCURS AT ANY SPEED, AND RESULTS IN VEHICLE COASTING TO A STOP AS THE STEERING AND BRAKES STOP WORKING TOO. HAS HAPPENED TO ME HUNDREDS OF TIMES AS WE CAN NOT PIN POINT PROBLEM, AND HAS REPLACED NUMEROUS DIFFERENT PARTS TRYING TO SOLVE IT. WHEN POWER LOSS OCCURS THERE IS VERY LITTLE TO NO TIME AT ALL FOR DRIVER TO COAST & STEER VEHICLE & OCCUPANTS TO SAFETY AREA ON SIDE OF ROAD. THE DASHBOARD INFORMATION CENTER WILL STATE "STARTING DISABLED, SERVICE THROTTLE" ALSO ENGINE POWER REDUCED" AND "SERVICE STABLITRAK." A NEW THROTTLE HAS BEEN PUT IN VEHICLE AND STILL DOES SAME THING. OVER THE YEAR IVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE IVE NOTICED IT DOES IT MORE IN WARM WEATHER. AFTER VEHICLE COAST TO A STOP AND IS PUT IN PARK AND TURNED OFF, WAIT 5 TO 10 MINUTES THEN VEHICLE WILL START UP AND NO INFORMATION OR LIGHTS DISPLAY IN DASH CENTER, LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED.

DROVE MY VEHICLE TO ATTEND CHURCH ON A SUNDAY MORNING. AFTER CHURCH, RETURN TO MY VEHICLE TO GO HOME. I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND PUT IT IN DRIVE GEAR. THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T MOVE. I SHIFTED IT TO 2ND GEAR AND IT MOVED SLOWLY AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. I GOT NO PRIOR WARNING OF ANY PROBLEM BEFORE PARKING. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND IT SCARED ME BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE OCCURRED WHILE I WAS ON THE BUSY INTERSTATE. I HAVE NOT HAD IT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE PROBLEM CAN'T BE ISOLATED BY THE TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOPS BECAUSE THERE IS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED FINE PRIOR TO THIS. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 117,000 MILES.

I PLACED MY CAR IN PARK, WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. WHEN I GOT BACK IN, AND TRIED TO PUT IT INTO GEAR, THE CONSOLE SHIFTER SEEMED LIKE IT WAS LOCKED IN PLACE, AND WOULDN'T LET ME PUT THE CAR IN GEAR. THERE IS APPARENTLY A SWITCH UNDER THE CONSOLE COVER THAT ALLOWS ME TO TEMPORARILY FIX THIS ISSUE, BUT I HAVE TO DO SO EVERY TIME I WANT TO PUT MY CAR INTO GEAR FROM PARK. ONLY HAPPENS WHEN MY CAR IS IN PARK. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE OR NOT. BUT ANY REPLY ON THIS ISSUE, AS WELL AS WHAT I NEED TO DO TO GET IT FIXED WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. LATELY, I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE ACCELERATION OF MY VEHICLE. EVERY SO OFTEN, MY ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND I GET A "ENGINE REDUCED" NOTIFICATION, AND MY VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN. WHENEVER I REACH 40MPH, MY HP METER DROPS AND MY CAR STARTS SHAKING. THERE HAS EVEN BEEN A TIME WHEN MY CAR WOULD COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AND DISPLAY "IGNITION DISABLED". EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING ON A HIGHWAY. I WENT TO A SHOP TO GET THE ERROR CODES AND I WILL UPLOAD THEM.
ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I WAS ABLE TO START THE ENGINE BACK UP NO PROBLEM. I HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON BECAUSE OF THE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR. I HAD JUST REPLACED IT THE DAY BEFORE. I SUSPECT IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THAT, BUT IM NOT SURE. IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY IM PRETTY SURE I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS ISNT THE FIRST TIME THIS CAR HAS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF FAULTY CAR PARTS, THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS.

CAR IS CURRENTLY AT 134K MILES AND JUST GAVE ME A "REDUCED POWER ENGINE", "CHECK TRACTION CONTROL", AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I GOOGLED AROUND AND CAME ACROSS A LOT OF CHEVY IMPALAS AROUND THE SAME YEAR (07-10) ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO BE SOMETHING WITH THE "ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITIONER PEDAL SENSOR. ALSO READING INTO IT, IT CLAIMS THAT THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO SUDDENLY STOP FROM 60MPH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO 20 OR ZERO. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT OR KILLED.

MECHANIC HAD TO REMOVE CODES TO PERMIT TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM, COULD NOT DUPLICATE AND TOLD ME TO WAIT UNTIL RECURRED. WHILE LOOKING FOR REPAIR SHOP WAS SCARED IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN RECEIVED LETTER FROM GM STATING IF THE ABOVE CONDITION HAD OCCURRED THEY WOULD FIX. CALLED GM DEALER MENTIONED LETTER THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR UNLESS THE MESSAGES WERE PRESENT ON PANEL, REFUSED TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REFERENCING LETTER, EXPLAINED GM DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR. WAS TOLD BY ANGELA ISSUE WAS SAFETY RELATED PROBLEM BUT GM WOULD NOT ADMIT TO SAFETY ISSUE. GM AGREED TO PAY FOR ONE HOUR OF DIAGNOSTIC TIME TO DETERMINE IF VEHICLE QUALIFIED FOR REPAIR, DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM, REFUSED TO REPAIR. CALLED GM AND WAS TOLD NO REPAIR WOULD BE MADE EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED AS STATED IN THE LETTER AND TO WAIT UNTIL SITUATION OCCURRED AGAIN THEN NOT TO START ENGINE AND TOW TO GM DEALER. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED IN 2012. THIS CAR HAD PERIODIC ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND A CO2 SENSOR FAILURE, BUT THERE WERE NO ISSUES COMPARABLE TO A TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. EARLIER IN THE WINTER OF 2015, I NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT UP INTO FOURTH GEAR ON THE FREEWAY UNTIL AFTER TEN MINUTES OF DRIVING. ONE DAY IN ANN ARBOR, MI, I WAS ACCELERATING OUT OF A TURN WHEN THE RPM METER STARTED REVVING TO 6,000 AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER. AFTER RESTARTING THE IMPALA, THE CAR WENT A FEW HUNDRED FEET TO RED LIGHT AND DIED AT THE INTERSECTION. I EVENTUALLY WAS ABLE TO DROP THIS VEHICLE OFF AT AN AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP FOLLOWING A LONG TRIP FULL OF TRANSMISSION FAILURES AND START-UPS. THE MECHANIC LATER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REBUILT. THE REPAIR COST WAS OVER $1,600 AND THE TRANSMISSION STILL POSSESSES THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT EXISTED PRIOR TO THIS EVENT.

WHEN I TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND TRY TO REMOVE THE KEY THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT SO I HAVE TO PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL AND BACK INTO PARK A FEW TIMES BEFORE IT WILL RELEASE THE KEY. SINCE THIS HAS OCCURRED I HEAR A KNOCKING SOUND IN MY GLOVE BOX WHEN THE DOOR IS OPEN AND CLOSED AND SOMETIME HOURS AFTER ILL HEAR THE NOISE AND THE ELECTRIC WILL FLICKER. *TR

LAST NIGHT, I STARTED UP MY CAR AND IMMEDIATELY THE CAR STARTED TO SHUDDER PRETTY HARD. MY CAR STARTED CHIMING AND A SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL SHOWED UP ON MY DASH, FOLLOWED BY AN ENGINE POWER REDUCED. THE LIGHT INDICATOR FOR MY TC WAS LIT. WE OWN THE CAR LISTED ABOVE AND HAVE FOR OVER TWO YEARS. WE BOUGHT IT AT A DEALERSHIP IN EAST TENNESSEE. THE CAR WAS PREVIOUSLY USED AS A RENT A CAR FOR ENTERPRISE. I SEARCHED ON-LINE AND FOUND DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS EXACTLY LIKE THIS ONE FOR 2008-2012 MODEL IMPALAS'. AFTER COASTING TO A PARKING SPOT I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND READ THE INFORMATION PANEL, IT READ REDUCED ENGINE POWER, SERVICE STABILITRAK, AND SERVICE THROTTLE BODY. BECAUSE I KNOW MOST AMERICAN MADE CARS ARE PURE GARBAGE I WONT DRIVE ONE WITHOUT A EBDII SCANNER. AFTER READING THE EBDII SCANNER IT SHOWED A P0601 CODE, WHICH INDICATES A PCM MEMORY ISSUE. AFTER CLEARING THE CODE IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP AND DROVE FOR ABOUT 10 MORE MINUTES UNTIL I WAS AT A PARKING LOT ON A STEEP GRADE. THE 3 DINGS HAPPENED AGAIN AND MY ENGINE SHUT OFF CAUSING ME TO ROLL BACKWARDS ABOUT 10 FEET ALMOST INTO OVER VEHICLES. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THIS AND HAVE COME TO FOUND THAT THIS IS A ENGINEERING FAULT CAUSED BY TO MUCH CURRENT FLOWING INTO THE POWER CONTROL MODULE, WHICH CREATES A SMALL HAIRLINE CRACK ON THE PCM ONBOARD COMPUTER, WITH WHICH MANY MANY OTHER GM PRODUCTS HAVE EXPERIENCED. THIS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY WHEN TRACTION CONTROL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. CAR WENT INTO REDUCED POWER MODE AND FINALLY DIED WHILE STILL MOVING. LOST POWER STEERING AND FINALLY BROUGHT CAR TO A STOP ON LEFT INSIDE OF EXPRESSWAY. AFTER A SHORT TIME SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND LIMP HOME. NOTE THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON, BUT I DO NOT KNOW IF IT WAS SET. HAD THE CODES READ THAT INDICATED A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR CAUSED THE FAULT. THERE ARE TWO SENSORS WHICH HAVE TO AGREE AND IF THEY DON'T CAR WILL GO INTO REDUCED POWER MODE. WHEN SHE GOT HOME I FOUND ONLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I HAVE IN THE PAST MOVED THE WIRES ON THE BRAKE FLUID SENSOR TO GET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OFF. NOT KNOWING EXACTLY HOW ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT SYSTEMS ARE TIED TOGETHER, I TEND TO THINK THAT THE CARS COMPUTER IS THE PROBLEM WHICH SETS OFF ALL THE DIFFERENT WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH. I WENT TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR ASKED IF THIS WAS A RECALL ISSUE. I THOUGHT THIS WAS SOME WHAT STRANGE. AFTER READING COMPLAINTS ON THE NET I CAN SEE WHY SHE MIGHT HAVE THOUGHT IT WAS A RECALL ISSUE. THE THROTTLE BODY PART IS $300 DOLLARS PLUS LABOR RATE OF $105/HR. AS OF NOW I CANNOT FIND ANY RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE. NHTSA NEEDS TO LOOK AT THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE LOSS OF STEERING WITH ALL SYSTEMS DUE TO MOTOR STALLING WHILE IN MOTION IS A HAZARD TO EVERYONE. *TR

THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED AND DISPLAYED MESSAGES: "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" AND "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL". THIS WAS THE SECOND INCIDENT. THE FIRST INCIDENT RESULTED IN THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF COMPLETELY AFTER THE SAME INITIAL SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED; LOCKING UP THE STEERING DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC (ESTIMATED 65 MPH, NO INJURES, APPROX. 4 MONTH AGO). OUR MECHANIC CLEANED OUT THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT, AND PHONED THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE TROUBLE CODES. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED WARRANTY SERVICE AS THE TROUBLE CODES HAD GONE BY THE TIME THE CAR HAD ARRIVED AT THEIR SHOP, AND WOULD NOT TAKE OUR MECHANIC'S PHONE CONVERSATION AS EVIDENCE. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE THREE SERVICES COMMONLY PERFORMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM WERE TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY, THROTTLE BODY SENSOR, AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL; THE LATTER NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
VEHICLE GIVES A SERVICE THROTTLE STARTING DISABLED MESSAGE AND PROMPTLY SHUTS OFF THE ENGINE. IF YOU WAIT 5 MINUTES THE CAR WILL RESTART AND PERFORM AS USUAL.....UNTIL THE NEXT TIME. SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS AND IS GOING TO RESULT IN SOMEONE BEING KILLED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS READING CODE P2138 AND THE THROTTLE PEDAL ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE SERVICE WAS COVERED UNDER THE DEALER'S WARRANTY AND I WAS SET TO GO. FLASH FORWARD TO 10/24/2012 WITH 29,355 MILES, I WAS DRIVING ON A SIDE ROAD AND THE SAME MESSAGES CAME UP. I CALLED ON STAR AND THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC WHICH RESULTED IN THE COMPUTER READING CODES P2138 AND C0242. EXPERIENCED OUT OF CONTROL WHEEL SPINNING AND SENSITIVE BRAKING. TOOK IT TO A DEALER IN THE AREA I WAS CURRENTLY IN TRAVELING FOR BUSINESS AND THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE WITH ANY ISSUE. ALL CODES AND LIGHTS WERE NOT ENGAGED. I STILL DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY VEHICLE DUE TO PROBLEM WITH ACCELERATOR AND HAD TOWED TO THE PURCHASING DEALER NEAR MY HOME. THEY ALSO COULD NOT DIAGNOSE WITH ANY ISSUE AS THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ERROR. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND A PROBLEM (ESPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY) WITH A POPULAR MODEL. GEAR BUT THAT WAS NOT ENOUGH TO SLOW ME ENOUGH SO I DOWNSHIFTED TO 2ND AND THIS STILL WAS NOT ENOUGH TO MAINTAIN A DOWNHILL SPEED TO KEEP FROM HAVING TO USE THE BRAKES. FINALLY I SHIFTED TO !ST GEAR TO MAINTAIN THE SAFE SPEED THAT I NEEDED. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE THAT THE CAR FREEWHEELS SO EXCELLENT THAT EVEN ON LOWER GRADES AS EXPERIENCED IN THE CAROLINAS IN OCTOBER WHEN WE WERE THERE THE CAR IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GEAR DOWN SO AS NOT TO OVERHEAT THE BRAKES WHEN TRYING TO MAINTAIN POSTED SPEEDS IN MOUNTAINOUS COUNTRY. I DISCUSSED THIS WITH SOLOMON CHEVROLET IN DOTHAN WHERE I GET THE CAR SERVICED AND THE DEALER FROM WHOM I PURCHASED THE CAR. THEY HAD NO SUGGESTIONS BUT ASSURED ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO DEALERSHIP WISE TO HELP ME. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT ALSO STATED WHEN THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS PLACED IN PARK; THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO DRIFT FORWARD AND BACKWARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED FOR THE FAILURE AND THERE WERE NO FURTHER REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,143 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,009.
