The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and shifting to reverse, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact continued to reverse the vehicle and felt a pulling sensation. The "Traction Control" failure light illuminated. The contact decided to move forward and park the vehicle. After several hours, the contact restarted the vehicle and the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was then able to be driven. The failure occurred several times after the tires were changed. The contact linked the failure to NHTSA ID Number: 10090054 (Vehicle Speed Control, Engine). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the accelerator pedal failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The vehicle was not returned to the dealer when the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and it was confirmed that the vehicle was past the 10-year coverage for NHTSA ID Number: 10090054 (Vehicle Speed Control, Engine). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed on separate occasions, the messages “Reduce Engine Power” and "Service Traction Control" were displayed on the instrument cluster, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving on a bumpy road surface and while turning the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the throttle position sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that her father used an OBD reader and retrieved codes indicating that the throttle position sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle decelerated unintendedly. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, who informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. While driving the car it would pop up a message saying “ENGINE POWER REDUCED”. Today while driving it home it popped up with a message saying “STARTING DISABLED, SERVICE THROTTLE” and then the car wouldn’t drive and I had to pull over on the side of the road. For months now when I drive and accelerate at times the car would almost grind. I believe it has to do with the traction control or the transmission.

My car has started slowing down abruptly and displaying Engine Power has been Reduced at random times, but has become more frequent. I have had an independent service center tell me it was the throttle body, so they replaced it. That didn't fix it, so they replaced the accelerator pedal/sensor. It still is happening and when on the interstate, it is so dangerous to slow down with no warning because you can get rear ended quite easily. This first started August 2021 when my wife and I started on a vacation and had to turn around and go home and is still happening, only more frequent. This past Saturday 7/16, I was traveling on Interstate 77 and the engine power kept cutting down about every 10 minutes, so I had to pull over and cut the engine off for a while until it reset. I can't trust it to go anywhere.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I HAVE A 2009 CHEVY IMPALA WITH 100,000 MILES ON IT. THE 1ST TIME THIS ISSUE HAPPENED, I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY, ON A SIDE STREET, IN JULY 2019. OUT OF THE BLUE, THE FOLLOWING WARNINGS APPEARED: ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED, SERVICE STABILITRAK, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL. IMMEDIATELY MY CAR STARTED RUNNING HORRIBLY (IT DIDN'T WANT TO GO, WAS CHUGGING, AND ALMOST FELT LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING). I PARKED IT. LATER I STARTED IT AND ALL WARNINGS WERE GONE, BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. . THE NEXT DAY I STARTED IT AND JUST THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. 3RD DAY I STARTED IT, ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. DROVE IT TO A SHOP,.RIGHT BEFORE I PULLED IN, THE LIGHT TURNED OFF! THEY SCANNED IT ANYWAY & SAID THAT NOTHING CAME UP. THE CAR HAS DRIVEN JUST FINE, NO WARNINGS OR LIGHTS UNTIL 11/25/2020. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 20MPH, TURNED RIGHT ON A SIDE STREET AND ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL OF THE EXACT MESSAGES AS BEFORE CAME ON. VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY STARTED RUNNING SLOW AND "CHUGGING"AGAIN. I PARKED IT. WHEN I STARTED IT AGAIN LATER, ALL THE SAME MESSAGES WERE STILL THERE. IT'S DEFINITELY SCARY WHEN THIS HAPPENS & SINCE THE 1ST TIME IT HAPPENED, I WAS NERVOUS TO DRIVE IT FAR BECAUSE I WASN'T SURE WHEN IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN. I WENT ON A CHEVROLET FORUM & READ THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. I WAS VERY PLEASED ABOUT THAT. I PUT IN MY VIN & IT STATED THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS. SO I CALLED GM THIS MORNING. THE REP SAID THEY'RE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, BUT THERE IS NOT A RECALL FOR IT. SHE THEN SAID THAT IT WOULD'VE COVERED BY SPECIAL WARRANTY BUT UNFORTUNATELY THAT WAS UNAVAILABLE AS OF APRIL 2019! HER ADVICE WAS TO TAKE IT TO A CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP AND HAVE IT CHECKED AND FIXED SOON FOR MY SAFETY! I ASKED WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL, IF IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE AND SHE SAID I COULD TALK TO A CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP AND MAYBE THEY COULD DO SOMETHING FOR ME. PLEASE HELP!

THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. ON THE HWY GOING 60MPH, ALL OF A SUDDEN MY ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED AND AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. THE NEXT DAY THE AIR BAG LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT ARE BOTH ON. WENT TO MY MECHANIC FOR AN INSPECTION (WHICH I FAILED DUE TO THE AIRBAG) AND HE INFORMED ME TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP FOR RECALL. I DID, ONLY TO FIND OUT THE RECALL IS CLOSED AND I CAN'T GET THIS FIXED UNLESS I COME UP WITH A LOT OF MONEY. I EXPLAINED I NEVER GOT ANYTHING FROM THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT THE RECALL. HOW CAN I GET MY CAR FIXED ON A CLOSED RECALL?

WHEN THIS HAPPENS, MY VEHICLE LOSES SPEED AND CANNOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 40MPH - DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY ON AN INTERSTATE. THE NOTIFICATION LIGHTS AND SYMPTOMS OCCASIONALLY GO AWAY AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND ON, ONLY TO COME BACK LATER. I CANNOT FIND AND ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM.

I GOT ON THE HIGHWAY AND TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE INTO THE LANE AND MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE BEFORE MY CAR SHUT OFF, BUT I WAS VERY CLOSE TO BEING BLASTED BY AN ONCOMING SEMI TRUCK. THIS COULD'VE BEEN FATAL TO ME IF I HAD NOT GOTTEN OVER IN TIME.

I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE, GOING THE SPEED LIMIT. I HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL ON WHEN THE CAR ALERTED ME THAT THE ENGINE POWER REDUCED AND SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE AS THESE MESSAGES HAVE APPEARED ON MY CAR BEFORE. I TRAVELED ANOTHER 40 MILES ALONG THE INTERSTATE AND WAS ABOUT A MILE FROM MY EXIT. I WAS PASSING AN OVER-SIZED TRACTOR TRAILER GOING UP HILL WHEN THE CAR DISPLAYED STARTING DISABLED THROTTLE SERVICE AND THE CAR SHUT OFF. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE AND HAD TO INITIATE MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS AND WAIT FOR THE TRACTOR TRAILER TO PASS ME SO I COULD MOVE THE CAR OVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. AS THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY SHUTOFF AND WAS JUST COASTING, I HAD TO FIGHT THE STEERING WHEEL TO CONTROL THE CAR. I FEEL LIKE HAD MY SITUATION WAS JUST A LITTLE DIFFERENT, THE CAR COULD HAVE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE WITH CARS TRAVELING 70+ MPH AND POSSIBLY CAUSED A CRASH. I'VE ALREADY REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR AND THAT REMEDIED THE SITUATION FOR A COUPLE MONTHS. THIS A HIGHLY DANGEROUS OCCURRENCE THAT I KNOW IS COMMON WITH THE IMPALA'S AS I'VE HEARD IT HAPPENING TO SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE OWNING IMPALA'S.

FORTUNATELY IT WAS NOT RUSH HOUR AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF ROAD. I WAS ON A TOLL ROAD THAT AAA CAN NOT RESPOND. I WAITED ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND STARTED THE CAR AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. TOOK CAR TO OUR MECHANIC, THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN, TO REPLACE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. SINCE THEN, 2 LETTERS FROM GM ABOUT COVERING COST OF THROTTLE SENSOR, BUT NOT ASSEMBLY. MY CAR WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALER TO CHECK ON THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THE COMPUTER SHOWED IT AS AN APPS ISSUE. THEY CHECKED THE APPS AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND THAT IT HAD BEEN RESET WITHIN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM AND I WAS GOOD TO GO. TWO MONTHS LATER WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 55 MPH ON A HIGHWAY, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SERVICE STABILITRAK APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, TRACTION CONTROL OFF LIGHT UP ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THEN THE RING TONE AND THE "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED" CAME ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE NEXT THING I KNEW WAS THAT I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO ACCELERATION AT ALL! I WAS EXTREMELY FORTUNATE THAT THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME WERE FAR ENOUGH BEHIND ME AND I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF OF THE ROAD AND ON TO THE SHOULDER. HAD THAT NOT BEEN THE CASE THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT CAUSING NUMEROUS INDIVIDUALS TO BE INJURED OR KILLED. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED AND CHECKED AND IT WAS DEFINITELY THE APPS (ACCELERATOR PEDAL PERFORMANCE SENSOR) THAT WAS DEFECTIVE. NOW NEARLY 2 YEARS LATER, IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. THE EXACT SAME WARNINGS CAME ON AGAIN, ONLY THIS TIME I WAS TRAVELING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER AND DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. FOR A FEW YEARS I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE FIRST TIME WAS ROUGHLY TWO YEARS AGO WHEN THE CAR COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AND SHUT DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY JUST BEFORE RUSH HOUR. I RECEIVED AN ERROR CODE TO CHECK TRACTION CONTROL AND THAT THE ENGINE POWER IS BEING REDUCED. THE CAR THEN LOOSES SPEED DROPPING DRASTICALLY. THE FIRST TIME I WAS IN THE FAST LANE ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SYSTEM SHUT DOWN. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO VEER OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGH WAY. LUCKILY NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE DIRECTLY BEHIND ME, AND I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY ACCIDENT FREE. I'VE NEVER BEEN SO AFRAID AND TERRIFIED IN MY LIFE. THUS, THE CAR WAS AGAIN SERVICED AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ON FRIDAY, JULY 31. BY AUGUST 1, THE "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" LIGHT BLINKED ON AND THEN WENT OFF QUICKLY. IT DID THE SAME THING ONE TIME ON AUGUST 2ND. TODAY, AUGUST 3RD, THE LIGHT WENT OFF THREE TIMES IN A SHORT DRIVE AND IS ONCE AGAIN STUCK ON. CALLED GM DEALER MENTIONED LETTER THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR UNLESS THE MESSAGES WERE PRESENT ON PANEL, REFUSED TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REFERENCING LETTER, EXPLAINED GM DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR. WAS TOLD BY ANGELA ISSUE WAS SAFETY RELATED PROBLEM BUT GM WOULD NOT ADMIT TO SAFETY ISSUE. GM AGREED TO PAY FOR ONE HOUR OF DIAGNOSTIC TIME TO DETERMINE IF VEHICLE QUALIFIED FOR REPAIR, DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM, REFUSED TO REPAIR. CALLED GM AND WAS TOLD NO REPAIR WOULD BE MADE EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED AS STATED IN THE LETTER AND TO WAIT UNTIL SITUATION OCCURRED AGAIN THEN NOT TO START ENGINE AND TOW TO GM DEALER. THE TRACTION CONTROL, STABILITY TRACK AND ABS LIGHTS ALL CAME ON. THE ENGINE POWER REDUCED LIGHT CAME ON AND ENGINE POWER WAS LOWER. I HAD THE LEFT SPEED SENSOR REPLACED AND THE ACCELERATOR SENSOR REPLACE ON AUGUST 8TH AFTER THE DEALERSHIP HAD FIXED THIS PROBLEM IN APRIL AND AGAIN IN JUNE. WHILE ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, MESSAGE LIT UP SAYING ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL, THEN SAID STARTING DISABLED AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF MID HIGHWAY WITH NO TIME TO REACT. WHILE DRIVING ONTO A HIGHWAY WHEN I REACH 56 MILES PER HOUR MY VEHICLE LOST POWER AND SLOW DOWN THE BRAKES LOCKED AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WENT HAYWIRE. THE LOCKS STARTED LOCKING AND UNLOCKING WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE LIGHTS STARTED FLICKERING ON AND OFF AND THE CAR STARTED SHAKING RAPIDLY AND THE BRAKES LOCKED UP. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH THE CAR BEGAN TO LOSE ACCELERATION AND DROPPED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO 40 MPH. I HAD TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND TURN THE CAR OFF TO TRY AND GET THE ISSUE TO SUBSIDE. ONCE BACK ON THE ROAD, NOT MORE THAN 3 MILES LATER THE ISSUE SURFACED AGAIN. I ENDED UP HAVING TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AND DRIVE (VERY SLOWLY) BACK TO MY HOUSE. NOT SURE IF IT WILL BE SAFE TO DRIVE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE ADDRESSED. I HAVE REPLACED THE WHEEL HUBS AND THROTTLE PEDAL SENSOR IN THE PAST FEW YEARS IN AN ATTEMPT TO CORRECT. THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE UNTIL RECENTLY AND EVEN AFTER HAVING IT FIXED BY A CERTIFIED CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, THE ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN. THIS MOST RECENT INCIDENT COULD HAVE ENDED IN SERIOUS INJURY HAD I NOT BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO NOT HAVE ANY CARS IMMEDIATELY AROUND ME. CONTACTED LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WILL COST $35 TO TOW IT TO THEIR SHOP AND ABOUT $85 JUST TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC ON THEIR MACHINE. THEY HAD MY CAR APPROXIMATELY 2-3 DAYS AND COULD NOT REPLICATE THE INCIDENT. I WAS ON HIGHWAY ONE EVENING AND MY CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED. MY POWER WENT OUT COMPLETELY ON THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THE CAR SHUT DOWN AND I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER GATHERING MY BEARINGS, I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON AND DRIVE OFF THE FREEWAY. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MY OIL WAS LOW (NO WARNING LIGHT). PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, I WAS GOING DOWN HILL ON A LOCAL STREET WHEN MY WARNING SYSTEM CAME ON AND INDICATED THAT I HAD REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND TRACTION STABILITY CONTROL ISSUES. AFTER GOING TO THE DEALER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MY OIL WAS EXTREMELY LOW, HOWEVER NO LEAKS OR CAUSE WAS EVER FOUND. PRIOR TO THIS, I HAD TO GET MY ACCELERATOR SENSOR REPLACED BECAUSE THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER WARNING CAME ON. IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND I HAD TO PAY SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO 'FIX' THE ISSUE. AS RECENTLY AS YESTERDAY, JUNE 16, 2014, I TURNED MY CAR ON AND THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE CAR OFF AND CHECKED THE OIL. IT WAS LOW BUT NO WARNING LIGHT TO INDICATE THIS ISSUE CAME ON (SAME AS IN THE PAST). I FAITHFULLY GET MY OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES OR 3 MONTHS, WHICHEVER IS FIRST. CLIMBING UP ALPOWA GRADE ON HIGHWAY 12 IN WASHINGTON STATE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED" CAME ON IN THE ODOMETER WINDOW. APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES LATER, BEYOND DODGE JUNCTION AND BEFORE STARBUCK TURNOFF, THERE WAS ANOTHER MESSAGE FLASHED IN THE ODOMETER WINDOW, "IGNITION SWITCH DISABLED. SERVICE ENGINE" THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, AND THE POWER STEERING BECAME SUPER SLUGGISH. THE CAR SLOWED DOWN, AND WE WERE ABLE TO GET STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS IS A PILOT CAR ESCORT VEHICLE, MAKING THE HAZARD EVEN MORE DANGEROUS, BECAUSE HAD I BEEN TRAVELING WITH AN OVERSIZED LOAD, I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY THE SEMI PULLING THE LOAD, OR I COULD HAVE IMPACTED THE REAR OF THE LOAD, DEPENDING IF I WERE FOLLOWING OR LEADING. LAST NIGHT, I STARTED UP MY CAR AND IMMEDIATELY THE CAR STARTED TO SHUDDER PRETTY HARD. MY CAR STARTED CHIMING AND A SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL SHOWED UP ON MY DASH, FOLLOWED BY AN ENGINE POWER REDUCED. THE LIGHT INDICATOR FOR MY TC WAS LIT. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TRIED TO RESTART IT. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I TURNED IT OFF AND WAITED 2 MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING. IT STARTED FINE, WITH NO BAD INDICATIONS. WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING (WITH MY THREE KIDS AS PASSENGERS) AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED IN THE DASHBOARD "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" AND "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" MESSAGES WERE DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY LAST POWER AND THE SPEED WAS REDUCED TO LESS THAN 30 MPH, WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. SHE WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE TO THE SHOULDER AND CALL ME FOR ASSISTANCE. BY THE TIME I GOT THERE AND STARTED THE ENGINE IT WAS RUNNING NORMALLY EXCEPT FOR THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT WAS LIT. I TOOK IT TO THE NEAREST CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WHO IMMEDIATELY STATED IT WAS A FAULTY ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL AND WOULD COST $580 TO REPLACE. I SEARCHED ON-LINE AND FOUND DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS EXACTLY LIKE THIS ONE FOR 2008-2012 MODEL IMPALAS'. THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM SO THE CUSTOMERS ARE GETTING CHARGED TO FIX THIS FAULTY CHEVROLET DEVICE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED IF THEY DO NOT RECALL THIS DEVICE. *TR

WHEN I PRESSED DOWN ON MY ACCELERATOR PEDAL (SPEED LIMIT WAS INCREASING FROM 50MPH TO 65MPH), A MESSAGE OF "STARTING DISABLED. SERVICE THROTTLE" CAME UP ON THE DASH. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AND THE CAR STARTED TO DECELERATE. I WAS ABLE TO FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO TURN ONTO A SIDE STREET (NARROWLY AVOIDING A CAR STOPPED IN THE LEFT LANE TO TURN) AND PARK THE VEHICLE IN A LOCATION OUT OF THE MAIN LANE OF TRAFFIC. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT CAME ON. I DROVE A FEW MILES FURTHER GOING ABOUT 65 MILES AND HOUR, AND THE ENGINE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I HAD TO PULL THE CAR OFF THE ROAD WITH NO POWER STEERING (I WAS STILL ROLLING THANKS TO MOMENTUM) SO I WOULDN'T GET HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. AFTER I SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR A FEW MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO START IT AGAIN AND DRIVE IT ABOUT 10 MILES BACK HOME. OUR REPAIRMAN SAID THE THROTTLE MOTOR SIGNAL CAME UP WHEN HE PLUGGED IT IN TO THE COMPUTER, SO WE SPENT THE $280 TO REPLACE IT. IT WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT 4 DAYS, AND THEN THE TRACTION LIGHT AND AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN A FEW DAYS AGO. WE'VE GOT IT IN THE SHOP AGAIN AND ARE WAITING FOR THE NEWS AS TO WHAT IT IS THIS TIME.

THIS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY WHEN TRACTION CONTROL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. CAR WENT INTO REDUCED POWER MODE AND FINALLY DIED WHILE STILL MOVING. LOST POWER STEERING AND FINALLY BROUGHT CAR TO A STOP ON LEFT INSIDE OF EXPRESSWAY. AFTER A SHORT TIME SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND LIMP HOME. NOTE THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON, BUT I DO NOT KNOW IF IT WAS SET. HAD THE CODES READ THAT INDICATED A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR CAUSED THE FAULT. THERE ARE TWO SENSORS WHICH HAVE TO AGREE AND IF THEY DON'T CAR WILL GO INTO REDUCED POWER MODE. WHEN SHE GOT HOME I FOUND ONLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I HAVE IN THE PAST MOVED THE WIRES ON THE BRAKE FLUID SENSOR TO GET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OFF. NOT KNOWING EXACTLY HOW ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT SYSTEMS ARE TIED TOGETHER, I TEND TO THINK THAT THE CARS COMPUTER IS THE PROBLEM WHICH SETS OFF ALL THE DIFFERENT WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH. I WENT TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR ASKED IF THIS WAS A RECALL ISSUE. I THOUGHT THIS WAS SOME WHAT STRANGE. AFTER READING COMPLAINTS ON THE NET I CAN SEE WHY SHE MIGHT HAVE THOUGHT IT WAS A RECALL ISSUE. THE THROTTLE BODY PART IS $300 DOLLARS PLUS LABOR RATE OF $105/HR. AS OF NOW I CANNOT FIND ANY RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE. NHTSA NEEDS TO LOOK AT THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE LOSS OF STEERING WITH ALL SYSTEMS DUE TO MOTOR STALLING WHILE IN MOTION IS A HAZARD TO EVERYONE. *TR

I CHANGED IT, BUT IT CAME BACK AGAIN LESS THEN 3K MILES. I REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AGAIN. 3K LATER SAME THING. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN IT IS RAINING THE THROTTLE SENSORS GO NUTS. I TOOK THE CAR TO ADVANCE AUTO AND READ THE CODES, SAME AS BEFORE, P0121, P2176, THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. ONCE IN A WHILE YOU CAN REMOVE THE BATTER LINES AND UNPLUG THE THROTTLE BODY AND MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR TO GET IT TO RESTART. OTHER TIMES YOU HAVE TO GO TO ADVANCE OR AUTOZONE TO CLEAR THE CODES IN ORDER TO GET IT TO RUN LONG ENOUGH FOR A SUNNY DAY. I HAD ONE OCCURRENCE WERE THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND IT SAID SERVICE THROTTLE POSITION. THE THROTTLE SENSOR NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GET KILLED. I HAVE RENAMED MY CAR TO THE FORD IMPALA. WHILE MERGING ONTO A TWO LANE HIGHWAY MY IMPALA SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND I RECEIVED A "LOW ENGINE POWER" WARNING AND THEN " SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR RUNS ROUGHLY AT REDUCED POWER - YOU NEED TO PULL OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF UNTIL YOU CAN START IT AGAIN. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT GM REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE. IN THIS INSTANCE I HAD MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR - I ALSO LOST THE POWER BRAKES. I HAVE BEEN TO TWO CHEVROLET DEALERS AND A BUICK DEALER BECAUSE THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF. THEY REPLACED MY THROTTLE BODY, OIL SENSOR, BATTERY AND SOMETHING ELSE AND CHARGED ME OVER $2000 FOR THE THREE VISITS AND I AM STILL EXPERIENCING THE ISSUE. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND HAD THE WIRING HARNESS CHANGED AND HAD SEVERAL DIAGNOSTICS DONE. AFTER ALL THIS THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I NORMALLY DON'T WRITE LETTERS BUT, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND MANY OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING BASED ON THE MESSAGE BOARDS I HAVE READ. I HAVE A 2009 CHEVY IMPALA LT & WAS DRIVING APROXIMATELY 50MPH DOWN THE ROAD WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL MESSAGE CAME ON, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON & ENGINE POWER WILL BE REDUCED MESSAGE CAME ON". THE CARS SPEED DROPPED DOWN TO ABOUT 40MPH & WOULD HARDLY GO. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON. IT REALLY SCARED ME BECAUSE I THOUGHT MY CAR WAS GOING TO CUT OFF. I DID GET TO WORK SAFELY BUT I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS CAR. I SEARCHED MESSAGE BOARDS ON THE INTERNET & CAME ACROSS 297 MESSAGES FROM OTHER PEOPLE WHO OWN GM VEHICLES THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. A COUPLE OF PEOPLE SAID THEIR CARS ACTUALLY CUT OFF ON THEM WHILE GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. ONE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE PROBLEM FROM WHAT I HAVE READ HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR OR THROTTLE BODY. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT HAS NOT DONE A RECALL ON THIS. A COUPLE OF PEOPLE POSTED THAT THEIR LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP COVERED THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THEIR CARS WERE NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN I REC'D THE FOLLOWING MESSAGES: SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ALSO CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO GO APPROX 50-55 MPH. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT I WAS NEAR AN EXIT. AS I WAS EXITING, A MESSAGE CAME ON TELLING ME THAT THE POWER WAS BEING TURNED OFF OR STOPPED. I CAN'T REMEMBER THE EXACT WORDS. I THEN HAD NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND MY ONLY OPTION WAS TO PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. EVEN THOUGH I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE SIDE, IT WAS NOT IN A SAFE PLACE AND TRAFFIC WAS GOING BY AT THE SPEED OF 55-60 MPH AND I WAS BARELY OVER THE WHITE LINE. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK, AND HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. THIS HAPPENED AT 4:15 ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON. MY MECHANIC DIDN'T LOOK AT IT UNTIL MONDAY AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I CAME HOME, GOOGLED THE PROBLEMS AND ENDED UP AT EDMUNDS.COM IN A FORUM FOR CHEVY OWNERS WITH THIS ISSUE. WHILE NO ONE WAS HURT THIS TIME, THAT IS JUST A BLESSING. HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL NEED TO BE HURT, MAIMED OR EVEN KILLED BEFORE THEY ISSUE A RECALL AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT A PROBLEM THAT IS VERY OBVIOUS.
