recall # 36110. our car is having the same issues that are indicated with this recall but GM refuses to include our vehicle in this recall. Front passenger seat sensor is shorting out against the seat frame which is turning vital passenger airbags off. Unsure when this actually started as my daughter drives this car to work and didnt notice when it first appeared.

About a week ago I got in my car and started driving. as I started going down the road the passengers side alarm for the seatbelt kept going off and I noticed the passenger side airbag had turned on as well. I was in my car alone and had nothing sitting in the passengers seat nor a passenger in my car. That was the first time it lasted my whole drive to work (about 13 miles) but made me think of past times my vehicle had done that as well A few weeks before that the same thing happened and I had to connect the seatbelt to make it stop. I didn’t think much of it at first and thought it was a one-off kinda thing till it became a pattern of sorts. This morning I started my car and the dash kept telling me to “service airbags” I just bought my vehicle from national auto sales in Spokane Washington the previous February of this year (2022) and only drive to work (13 miles) and back for the most part. Seeing the “service airbag” light on in my car was concerning because I don’t know what that means. As I looked further into things I found a recall for my vehicle for the passenger side airbags malfunctioning, recall #36110 to replace wiring in the seat. So I called GM and they couldn’t find a recall for my vehicle. I then called Knudtsen Chevrolet in post falls Idaho expecting it to get taken care of. The guy from the service department looked up my VIN and told me my vehicle had already been serviced in the past for this passenger side airbag recall issue at another dealership and the work had already been completed and closed so there was nothing they would be willing to do except make an appointment and pay 145.00$ for them to diagnose the situation. I explained that the recall was for the very same thing that’s happening in my vehicle right now and that was unsafe if my airbags were malfunctioning. That if they fixed it in the past why am I dealing with that exact recall issue with my airbags now? I don’t have money to pay for something that was supposed to be fixed

The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the air bag seat sensor and side-impact sensor to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The manufacturer informed that contact that her VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V507000 (Air Bags, Electrical System). The failure mileage was approximately 137,700.

Air Bag Service message comes up on the information panel with the air bag light on. Did a diagnostic check showed passenger air bag. I reached under the seat and shook the wires the light and message went off, however the diagnostic check still showed the passenger air bag system. Found recall Number 16V507000. The dealer says my VIN is not in the recall however it seems I have the same problem the recall describs.

SERVICE AIR BAG ON DASH CAME ON TODAY AFTER A BASIC OIL CHANGE @ A DEALERSHIP
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND I WAS DOING 55 MPH,AND THE CAR STARTED TO HESITATE,AND THE DASHBOARD INFO READ STABILITRAC, ENGINE SAFTY MOD, AND REDUCED POWER. THEN THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN,AND WHEN I TRIED TO GIVE IT SOME GAS THE ENGINE STARTED TO KNOCK,AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WENT ALL THE WAY UP TO THE TOP. I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF,AND OPENED THE HOOD, AND IT WASN'T EVEN OVER HEATING. AFTER LETTING IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES I STARTED IT UP AND WENT ABOUT FIVE HUNDRED FEET AND IT DID IT AGAIN.

I DROVE IT TO AUTO NATION YESTERDAY JUNE 11TH TO SEE IF IT WAS A RECALL. THEY SAID THERE HASN'T BEEN ONE. I DROVE IT HOME AND STARTED SEARCHING ONLINE FOR POSSIBLE PROBLEMS WITH IT AND THERE WERE SO MANY POSTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I SEARCHED UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT I READ TO DO AND LOW AND BEHOLD ALL TYPES OF WIRES UNDER IT ARE COMPLETELY SEVERED AND TORN UP. I WAS GOING TO FIX THIS MYSELF BUT I REALLY DON'T WANT TO BE HELD LIABLE IN CASE OF ACCIDENT OR INJURY. THIS MUST BE FIXED AND IT'S MY BELIEF THAT IT'S CAUSED BY THE VEHICLE DESIGN. PLEASE HOLD CHEVROLET RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS REPAIR AS IT IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR BOTH THE PASSENGER AND POSSIBLY EVERYONE ELSE IN THE VEHICLE. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR LOOKING INTO THIS. AIR BAG SENSOR HAS BEEN TRIPPED FOR THE PAST 7 MONTHS, I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS RECALL, AND IT LOOKS LIKE THE WIRING HARNESS MIGHT BE THE ONLY THING THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, WHENEVER, I PUT IN MY VIN NUMBER, THERE AREN'T ANY RECALLS FOR THIS. ALSO, I HAVE RECEIVED A LETTER ABOUT THE GAS SENSOR POSSIBLY BEING BAD, HOWEVER, WHEN I TOOK IT INTO A CHEVY DEALER TO HAVE IT FIXED, THEY REFUSED TO. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WASN'T ON, AND THAT I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL IT FAILED BEFORE THEY WOULD FIX IT! FAILURE OF THIS SENSOR MEANS, IT COULD FAIL IN AN INTERSECTION, OR WHILE I AM PASSING SOMEONE, OR WHATEVER, THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN!!! I AM VERY UNHAPPY THAT THEY WOULDN'T FIX IT. NOW, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, HOWEVER, IT IS BECAUSE ANOTHER SENSOR IS BAD! THE EVC SENSOR NOW HAS TO BE FIXED. THE AIRBAG SENSOR WAS TRIPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HWY AT 70 MPH ON A WARM DAY OF 80 F OR SO. THE EVC SENSOR TRIPPED OVERNIGHT WHEN I STARTED THE CAR IN THE MORNING. THE GAS PEDAL SENSOR HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR 3 YEARS BECAUSE CHEVY DEALERS REFUSE TO FIX IT. THESE CONCERNS ARE IN ADDITION TO THE OTHER MECHANICAL FIXES THAT I HAVE HAD TO DO ON A CAR THAT HAS LESS THAN 87,000 MILES ON IT! I AM FEELING LIKE I HAVE A LEMON OF A CAR AND THAT THIS IMPALA IS THE WORST CAR ON THE MARKET. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL CHEVY PRODUCTS, AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. 1) AIRBAG LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY HAS GONE ON AND OFF FOR MONTHS. I ASKED DEALER ABOUT IT, THEY SAID IT WOULD BE EXPENSIVE TO DIAGNOSE BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE TO TRACE THE WIRING HARNESS, REMOVING SEAT AND DASHBOARD. LABOR WOULD BE EXPENSIVE. I COMPLAINED TO GM ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS AND WAS GIVEN A CASE#. I WAS TOLD CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, THEREFORE, IT WOULD BE MY EXPENSE TO HAVE THIS DIAGNOSED AND FIXED. DEALER SAID AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IF LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED. THIS A MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT. FALL 2013. 2) THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER STOPPED WORKING LAST FALL 2013. I HAD TO PAY FOR TOTAL REPAIR AS IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SAID IT WAS A WIRING ISSUE. IMPALA'S HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO HAVE ISSUE. OCT 2013. 3) THE GAS PEDAL FELL OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. DEALER SAID THEY NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THAT BEFORE, BUT WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, THEREFORE, ENTIRE COST WAS MINE. SAFETY ISSUE. SEPT 2013 4) THE EVAP VENT VALVE AND SOLENOID HAD TO BE REPLACED. SYSTEM LEAK PRESSURIZED EVAP WOULD NOT HOLD. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECTIVE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY THAT GM HAS INSTALLED IN CHEVY IMPALA?S AND THEY REFUSE TO TAKE OWNERSHIP.
