Grinding from turning. Numerous Radiators, Transmission problems over and over. Jerking not pulling. Stalling in the road.Control Arm needed again. Brakes and Rotors grinding.
Today, 6-12-2022, driving on US Highway 80 at 65 mph headed toward Phenix City, AL from Columbus, GA, the the engine shuddered, then the "Stabilitrack Service Light" came on, along with the check engine light, and a message for "reduced engine power." Then, the engine suddenly cut out as I was going uphill between the Riverchase Exit and the Summerville Exit. Luckily, I was driving and not my wife. I was able to glide the car back to the right shoulder of the road under ZERO power, and shut the ignition down. Cars were passing me at 65-75 mph, and I was very fortunate not to have caused an accident. After sitting there for about 5 minutes in 96 degree heat and my wife freaking out in the passenger seat, I restarted the car and eased it to the Summerville Exit, and slowly drove home, about another 6 miles. We were damn lucky not to have been hit by another car, as this happened on a what is essentially a freeway. After researching this , it seems this is a common problem being reported on this Model, the Chevy Impala. I'm sure Chevrolet knows about this...the company should be forced to recall this car model and fix it before folks start getting killed due to total engine failure...especially at a high speed like I was driving.
The car was stopped at a stop sign, turned right onto the highway and the front wheels locked. The car would not move in any gear, even in neutral. A tow truck had to place front wheels on skids and drag onto the bed. The transmission repair shop never saw anything like it, all the gears on the trans axel were stripped smooth and metal fragments all over the inside of the transmission. Very dangerous situation if there would have been oncoming traffic.
AFTER ABOUT 30000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID(S) ARE GOING BAD INTERMITTENTLY. IT'S GOING TO BE A COSTLY REPAIR FOR A PART THAT COSTS AROUND 25 DOLLARS OR SO. THIS SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN A CONTINUING PROBLEM ON THE 4T65E TRANSMISSIONS. WHEN YOU ARE AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND GO TO ACCELERATE YOU GET NO RESPONSE EXCEPT FOR HIGHER RPM'S AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY ENGAGES AND YOU GET A VIOLENT SURGE FORWARD WITH A LOUD BANG. GM KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND SHOULD INITIATE A RECALL TO INSTALL NEW AND IMPROVED SOLENOIDS.

THE DEALER HAD ALREADY FIXED THE ABS SYSTEM AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAD LEAKY VALVE COVERS AND HAD BEEN TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS SOLD TO THE CONTACT WITH A RECALL THAT HAD TO BE REPAIRED. THE REPAIR WAS DONE AT THE DEALER JEFF JOHNSON CHEVROLET (2533 CARROLLTON PIKE, WOODLAWN, VA 24381 (276) 779-4620). THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CALLED YET. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 183,500.

I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE MY VEHICLE OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC. I AM VERY FORTUNATE THAT THIS ISSUE DID NOT OCCUR WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY OR A CROWDED STREET. FOR MY TRANSMISSION TO HAVE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AT A MEAGER 76,000 MILES IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD. TRANSMISSION WAS CARED FOR ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS.

HE SAID IT WAS A MISSING APPLY LUG THAT BROKE OFF ONE OF THE APPLY BANDS AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION OR HAVE A COMPLETE REBUILD. I JUST THINK A TRANSMISSION SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 7 YEARS. AND I READ THIS IS COMMON FOR THAT TRANSMISSION BUT IT HAPPENS MORE IN 2000-2002 MODELS.....BUT I GUESS IT HAPPENS WITH THE NEWER ONES ALSO.

IT TELLS ME IF FLAT TIRE, BLINKER IS ON, THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE, ETC ETC, BUT NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S RELATED, BUT WE SMELLED VINEGAR EVERY TIME WE STARTED THE CAR FOR ABOUT 4 DAYS STRAIGHT. WE NOTICED THAT WHEN ACCELERATING, IT'S OKAY, BUT WHEN LETTING OFF THE GAS ON THE FREEWAY, IT "SHUDDERS."

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SERVICED DUE TO THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE UNDER CASE NUMBER: 83215496968, AND STATED THAT SOMEONE WOULD CONTACT HIM BACK. TURNING LEFT ACROSS TRAFFIC IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AS YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WILL FAIL TO ENGAGE. THIS HAS BEEN A ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE THE CAR HAD 38000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS OUR THIRD IMPALA THAT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE FIRST IMPALA THAT HAD THIS PROBLEM, THE CHEVROLET DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE. THE TRANSMISSION PRESSURE SOLENOID WAS REPLACED BY A LOCAL TRANSMISSION SHOP. THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR THAT CAR. WE ALSO HAVE A 2008 IMPALA THAT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. THREE IMPALAS, THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IN ALL THREE. THE PART NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. WE HAVE DELAYED HAVING THE PART REPAIRED BECAUSE IT IS QUITE COSTLY AND WE HAD HOPED THAT CHEVROLET WOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND RECALL THE PART ON THEIR OWN.

(NEW BATTERY) OTHERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS HAD TO REPLACE/CLEAN THROTTLE CONTROL SENSOR?? SOME WERE AT HIGHER SPEED WHEN THE LOSS OF POWER OCCURRED. NO START IS ANOTHER ISSUE?

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE HOME FROM A TRIP AND STOPPED AT A STORE. WHEN SHE RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE IT WOULD NOT MOVE. WE HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED AND HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR ON THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 55,500 MILES ON IT. I DON'T FEEL THIS IS A REPAIR THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN NECESSARY WITH THIS FEW MILES. WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS ON THE VEHICLE AND TOOK POSSESSION FROM THE DEALERSHIP ON 2/2/11. I DO HAVE THE REPAIR BILLS. WORK WAS PERFORMED ON 6/9/17.

I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED AND THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE.

IT WOULD NOT GO FORWARD OR IN REVERSE FROM THEN ON. WHEN I CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID IT WAS DARK AND HAD SEDAMENTS IN IT. MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 86000 MILES. I ALWAYS HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AT THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR. EVIDENTLY, THEY DIDN'T CHECK ALL THE FLUIDS LIKE THEY PROMISED.

VERY SCARY FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. TRAFFIC WAS VERY LIGHT. I WAS FEARFUL BECAUSE THE STREET I WAS ON WAS ONLY ONE LANE IN EACH DIRECTION, AND NOT MUCH OF A SHOULDER. I FELT VERY LUCKY I WAS NOT ON THE FREEWAY. THIS I BELIEVE COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR AT A VERY SLOW SPEED TO A DEALERSHIP THAT WAS LESS THAN A MILE AWAY. SAD PART I WAS OVER 300 MILES FROM HOME. TORQUE CONVERTER FAILURE CAUSED HEAVY METAL DEBRIS IN THE TRANSMISSION LEAVING ME WITH A BILL TOTALING $3368.52. (PLUS OTHER EXPENSES DUE TO MY DISTANCE FROM HOME.)

PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AT ABOUT 10 MILES AN HOUR THE TRANSMISSION DIED, CAUSING THE CAR TO COME TO A DEAD STOP: THE TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REPLACED NOW, HUSBAND HIT HIS HEAD OFF STEERING WHEEL, IF WE WERE ON A HIGHWAY DOING 60MILES PER HOUR WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THE CAR IS NOW AT TOM HESSER DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THEY WILL PAY HALF OF THE 4K TO FIX IT, THE CAR HAS 60400 SOME MILES ON IT, JUST TURNED 5 YRS OLD. THE CHEVY SERVICE DEPARTMENT I TOOK IT TO WANTS ALMOST $700 JUST TO TAKE IT APART TO SEE WHAT IT WRONG WITH IT, WHICH DOESN'T INCLUDE THE POSSIBLE AMOUNT FOR REPAIR. AND THEY DID NOT LOOK AT ANY OF THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS LIKE REQUESTED! NOW THEY ARE SAYING MY CAR IS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN AT ALL. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. LESS THAN A YEAR AGO, WE RECEIVED A SERVICE STABILITRAC/SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL/ENGINE AT REDUCED POWER MESSAGE AND SPEED DROPPED FROM 40 MPH TO 5 MPH. WE BROUGHT IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER AND A TRACTION POSITION CONTROL SENSOR WAS REPLACED. TODAY, ON 11/24/13, WE WERE DRIVING 15 MPH IN A PARKING LOT AND RECEIVED THE SAME MESSAGE RESULTING IN THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE ESSENTIALLY STALLS OUT WITH LITTLE TO NO POWER AND NEARLY CAUSED A COLLISION AT AN INTERSECTION. THE INDICATORS FOR TIRES, OIL, ETC WERE SHOWING INFO, BUT NOTHING TO INDICATE IT HAD DIED OR IF THERE WERE ANY ENGINE ISSUES. HAD BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD BOUGHT THE CAR 11 MONTHS AGO. THE MECHANICS WERE SAYING THAT THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH AN HUGE TRANSMISSION FAILURE BEFORE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS LOOSING POWER. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSE THAT THE APP SENSOR AND MODULATOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR BOTH COMPONENTS. APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH LATER THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN WHILE HE WAS PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AFTER PULLING OVER THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE BUT THE RPM'S WERE RISING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 51,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
