The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that water was entering the rear tail lamps, causing the amplifier and radio to fail to operate. The contact was concerned that the failure could cause an electrical fire. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the tail lamp gasket needed to be sealed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 14047 (Tail Lamp Gasket Seal); however, the vehicle was not covered under the TSB. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

Multiple electric concerns...airbag light, park assist, inop camera, and losing communication with BCM(?) Found multiple communication codes for a variety of different modules. Found main source to be from the "side detection modules". Found fuse 62 blown underhood. Inspected side detection modules and found "a lot of corrosion" on both modules and connectors. Needs side detection kit. I purchased the used impala on 12/19/2020 with 63,897 miles. The first time this issue was a concern was on 07/02/2022 at Merit chevrolet (MN). Mileage was at 83144 at that time. Diagnosis ... recommend both rear side detection modules and harness? According to Special coverage adjustment #N172097060 it is known to be subject to "water intrusion"? This problem affects the whole electrical system which includes airbag function. Why does this safety concern have a limited coverage time? According to the "Special Coverage" document, there was an 80000 mile timeline? This appears to be an ongoing issue with this year, make, and model and my feeling is that a "special coverage" is denying the safety problem and putting it on the consumer?

side detection module has falled... yes it is available for inspection... my wife got locked in the car on a 80 plus degree day and could not get out,doors would not open,trunk release would not open trunk so she could crawl there the back seat,sunroof would not open,power steering periodically feels like there is no power stearing, dash lights periodically shut off when driving.. Yes, morries forest lake chevrolet and cadilac.forest lake. mn... no it has not been inspected by anyone but the dealer...There were no warning lights untill 51,000 miles or 8 months ago

Driving at night my car headlights/instrument panel shut off on their own. I couldn’t see had to slam my brakes and pull over. Nothing I tried would turn them on. After almost a minute each time they just came back on theirselves. After googling this seems to be a known problem with Chevy impalas but no solution. This is highly dangerous. There were no warning lights that came on or anything. I was able to still drive the car, turn it on and off, etc but they wouldn’t come on until they did on their own. Thank goodness no one was behind me or something in front of me cause I was on a none lighted 55 mph road

I PULLED INTO MY GARAGE AND CUT OF MY CAR. AFTER OPENING THE DOOR MY SEAT WOULDN'T MOVE FORWARD LIKE IT ALWAYS DOES. THAT'S WHEN MY DASH BOARD GAVE ME AN ERROR MESSAGE STATING THAT I NEED TO ROLL MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW DOWN. SO, I DID THAT BUT THE NEXT DAY MY NAVIGATION SYSTEM WAS OFF ALONG WITH MY RADIO AND ON-STAR SYSTEM. SO I DROVE TO THE GAS STATION BEFORE HEADING TO WORK, AND WHEN I TRIED TO GET IN MY CAR THE POWER WAS OFF. I WENT UNDER-HOOD TO SEE IF THE BATTERY WAS LOOSE BUT IT WASN'T. SO I SHUT THE HOOD GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND EVERYTHING INCLUDING MY RADIO, GPS, AND ON-STAR CAME BACK ON. I HEADED OUT TO WORK AND THAT IS WHEN MY CAR SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 70 MPH AND THE ERROR MESSAGE SAID WARNING NO POWER STEERING. I GOT TO WORK SAFELY AND REALIZED I LEFT SOMETHING IN MY CAR AND THAT IS WHEN MY CAR SHOW SIGNS THAT IT WAS DEAD, BUT AFTER MANUALLY GETTING INTO MY CAR THE POWER CAME BACK ON. AROUND 3 YEARS AGO. 3 PARTS THE LANE DEPARTURE MODULES CONTROL ARE THE BLIND SPOT SENSORS, REAR BACKUP SENSORS AND A FRONT CAMERA. MY LANE DEPARTURE MODULES GOT WET AND MESSED UP MY CAR WHERE THERE WERE MANY THINGS GOING WRONG. WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY CAR SAID THE AIR BAG WENT OFF, THEFT WAS DETECTED, BLOWER FAN & TEMP CONTROLS WHERE GOING ON AND OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. 2 YEARS AGO GM AGREED TO REPLACE THE MODULES. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WERE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE PROGRAMMING OF THE MODULES. THEY FINALLY GOT THEM TO PROGRAM. THE DAY I PICKED UP MY CAR I NOTICED ISSUES WITH THE SENSOR SYSTEM. THE REAR BACKUP SENSOR DOES NOT WARM ME, LAST WEEK I DID NOT SEE A GARBAGE CAN BEHIND ME BECAUSE IT WAS LOWER THAN MY TRUNK AND I HIT THE CAN AND BROKE MY TAIL LIGHT. THE FRONT SENSOR THAT TELLS ME I AM GOING TO FAST FOR THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME GOES ON RANDOMLY WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME IS MORE THAN 100 FEET OR NO CAR AT ALL. I HAVE TAKING MY CAR TO 3 DEALERSHIPS 4 TIMES. ALL THE DEANSHIP'S SAY THEY CAN'T FIX IT BECAUSE THEY DON'T GET A CODE. I'VE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES RANGING BACK TO 2018. I'VE TAKING MY CAR TO A GM DEALERSHIP AND FOUND THAT THE SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I ALSO FOUND THE SENSOR IS ON BACK ORDER, WHICH MAKES ME BELIEVE THIS IS A LARGER ISSUE THAN I THOUGHT AND SOME ONE NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER. BLIND SPOT DETECTION SYSTEM BEGAN TO FAIL, INDICATED BY THE SIDE MIRROR INDICATORS REMAINING ON EVEN AFTER THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF. DEALER SERVICE CENTER DIAGNOSTIC TEST SHOWED THE BATTERY WAS OLD. THE PROBLEM PROGRESSED TO THE POINT WHERE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WOULD ALSO FAIL - ALL INSTRUMENTS (SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, ETC.) WOULD GO DEAD, VIRTUALLY ALL WARNING LIGHTS (TRACTION CONTROL, ABS, AIR BAG, ETC.) WOULD GO ON, HEATING SYSTEM (INCLUDING BLOWER) WOULD GO DEAD AND TURN SIGNALS AND HAZARD LIGHT WOULD BE INOPERATIVE. ALL OF THIS WOULD HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING, WHETHER IN CITY TRAFFIC OR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ALTHOUGH THE MAIN OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN AFFECTED, THERE IS NO WAY TO SIGNAL OTHER DRIVERS OF A PROBLEM (NO HAZARD LIGHT OR TURN SIGNALS) IN THE EVENT OF A LARGER FAILURE. RESEARCH OF ONLINE CUSTOMER FORUMS SHOWS THAT THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON WITH THE LATEST GENERATION (2014 AND NEWER) IMPALA. WHEN MY SIDE DETECTION MONITORING SYSTEM FAILED A FEW MONTHS AGO I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER. THEY RESPONDED TELLING ME THAT, UNFORTUNATELY, THE DESIGN FOR THIS SENSOR MODULE/HARNESS IS COMPLETELY FLAWED. THE SENSORS ARE LOCATED IN THE REAR BUMPER, WITH PLASTIC HOUSING. THERE IS NO WEATHER PROTECTION, EVEN THOUGH THESE ARE DIRECTLY BEHIND THE TIRES AND ARE EXPOSED TO ALL WEATHER - PLUS I LIVE IN IL SO WE'RE TALKING RAIN, SNOW, SALT, ETC. IT'S TWO SENSORS AND THE HARNESS. I COULDN'T AFFORD THE $1200 REPAIR, SO I FIGURED I WOULD JUST HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE LOSS OF THE SAFETY FEATURE AND IGNORE THE WARNING LIGHT. LAST WEEK, ALL OF MY WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON - THEFT DETECTION, FRONT CAMERA, AIRBAG, STABILITRACK, ETC. MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS, TURN SIGNALS, LOCKS AND HEADLIGHTS WERE ALL GOING HAYWIRE, AND AT ONE POINT WHILE DRIVING ALL OF MY GAUGES WENT TO ZERO (NO SPEED LIMIT, RPM, GAS GAUGE, ANYTHING) AND MY HEAT WENT OUT, TURN SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING AND MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP HOPING THAT MAYBE MY BATTERY (FACTORY ORIGINAL)/WIRING MIGHT BE THE CAUSE. NO SUCH LUCK. AS IT TURNS OUT THE SIDE DETECTION MODULES ARE NOW CORRUPTING ALL SENSORS AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INCLUDING MY AIR BAGS! THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THAT THE SIDE DETECTION MODULES HAD FAILED AND WERE CAUSING THE CHAOS THAT IS OCCURRING WITH ALL OF MY OTHER WARNING SYSTEMS, AND THAT MY AIR BAGS NO LONGER WORKED. MY AIR BAGS DON'T WORK BECAUSE OF THIS, NEVERMIND THE EXTREME DANGER IN HAVING A SYSTEM GO HAYWIRE WHILE I'M DRIVING! I'M AT NEARLY 100,000 MILES SO I'M WELL PAST ANY WARRANTY THAT WOULD COVER THIS, BUT I HAVE BEEN READING FORUMS AND CARCOMPLAINTS AND IT TURNS OUT THAT THIS IS A REALLY COMMON ISSUE. THE COST OF THE DIAGNOSTICS, COST OF THE REPAIR, AND ANTICIPATED COSTS OF SUBSEQUENT REPAIRS IS RIDICULOUS CONSIDERING IT IS A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW.

THE CONTACT MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MIKE SMITH BUICK GMC (6014 S TRANSIT RD, LOCKPORT, NY 14094, (716) 625-8235) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE FIRST OCCURRED LAST YEAR. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE, AND THE WIRES WERE BURNT AND CORRODED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BY A LETTER THAT WAS MAILED BY THE CONTACT, BUT NO RESPONSE WAS RECEIVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 39,000.

POOR HEADLIGHTING. FOGGY LENSE DUE TO DEFECTIVE LENSE MATERIAL FOGGING FROM THE HEAT ON THE INSIDE OF THE LENSE, POOR LIGHT COLOR, TOO SMALL HEAD LIGHTS. I'VE REPLACED THE HEAD LIGHT TWICE AT $57.00 EACH TIME. I CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP REPLACING THIS LIGHT. GM WANTS OVER $1500 TO REPLACE THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY. IN ADDITION, THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS WERE VERY DIM AND DIMMER THAN THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED IN THAT MANNER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURES, BUT THE REMEDIES FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54.

THE PROBLEM THAT I HAVE WITH MY 2014 IMPALA IS THAT THE HEADLIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE THE ROAD VERY WELL. THE LIGHT BEAM IS NARROW PROJECTING STRAIGHT OUT IN FRONT OF THE CAR. THIS IMPALA IS A BEAUTIFUL CAR, I LOVE IT EXCEPT FOR THE HEADLIGHTS. THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM FOR ME. IF I HAD TAKEN A TEST DRIVE AT NIGHT I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THIS CAR. I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH 2014 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS WITH STANDARD HALOGEN HEADLIGHTS. THE HEADLIGHT BEAM, BOTH ON HIGH AND LOW BEAMS, IS VERY NARROWLY FOCUSED SO THAT THE AREA IMMEDIATELY TO THE FRONT AND SIDE OF THE CAR -- AND OBJECTS LOCATED THERE -- CANNOT BE EASILY SEEN. THE LIGHTS WORK REASONABLY WELL ON A STRAIGHT ROAD, BUT WHEN EXECUTING A TURN THE PATH OF THE CAR IS IN NEAR DARKNESS AS THE LIGHTS POINT A NARROW BEAM TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE TURNING RADIUS. THIS MAKES DRIVING AT NIGHT ON ANYTHING OTHER THAN STRAIGHT HIGHWAYS AN UNNERVING EXPERIENCE AND I BELIEVE REPRESENTS A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK BOTH TO THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS, AND TO PEDESTRIANS WHO MIGHT BE OUTSIDE THE HEADLIGHTS' NARROW FOCAL RANGE. NOTE THAT THE HEADLIGHT DESIGN IS UNUSUAL FOR A HALOGEN UNIT IN THAT IT USES A SHUTTER TO SWITCH BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW BEAM, A FEATURE MORE COMMONLY FOUND WITH HID LIGHTS. BY COMPARISON, OUR 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU, WITH SEPARATE REFLECTOR BASED HALOGEN LOW AND HIGH BEAMS, DOES A MUCH BETTER (I BELIEVE MUCH SAFER) JOB OF ILLUMINATING A BROAD AREA IN FRONT OF AND TO SIDES IMMEDIATELY IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS OUR FIRST TIME DRIVING THE CAR AT NIGHT AND WE WERE ON A COUNTRY ROAD WITH NO LINES. WE KNEW THERE WAS A STOP SIGN THERE SOMEWHERE THE SIGN WAS PARTIALLY HIDDEN BY A TREE BRANCH BUT WE COULD SEE NEITHER BECAUSE THE LIGHTS DID NOT REFLECT HIGH ENOUGH AND TO EACH SIDE (HIGH BEAMS AND LOW BEAMS DID NOT MAKE MUCH DIFFERENCE)) AND WE DROVE ACROSS THE INTERSECTION AND INTO A DITCH RESULTING IN MINOR DAMAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT BUMPER. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC COMING ON THE CROSS STREET. SINCE THEN WE HAVE DONE MINIMAL NIGHT DRIVING BUT ALWAYS HAVE HAD TROUBLE SEEING ON ROADS WITH NO LINES AND ESPECIALLY SEEING TO MAKE BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT TURNS.
