I LOCATED A RECALL THAT MY CAR HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AND TOOK IT TO THE GMC DEALER IN LARAMIE WHY WHERE MY CAR SAT FOR 2 WEEKS AND ENDLESS CALLS NO CALL BACK FOR THE IGNITION RECALL AND OTHER ISSUES THAT MY CAR HAD I HAVE EMAILED AND CALLED AND ALL I HAVE GOTTEN WAS A BILL FOR NON SENCE AND HEADACKS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN FIXED ON THE CAR AND I HAVE LOST MONEY AND TIME BECAUSE THEY WOULDNT FIX THE RECALL OR EVEN KNOLAAGE THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE LAST MONTH... APPARENTLY THIS CAR HAS A ANTI-THEFT FEATURE NOT MENTIONED IN THE USER MANUAL (MENTIONS A ALARM FOR THE CAR RADIO, BUT NOT THE CAR ITSELF). MY CAR WOULD "NOT START" BECAUSE "IT" THOUGHT I WAS STEALING MY OWN CAR WHILE TRYING TO START THE CAR. ACCORDING TO CHEVROLET THERE IS NO WAY TO TURN IT OFF OR RESET IT MANUALLY (YOU JUST HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE ALARM GOES AWAY), THE CHEVROLET DEALER SAID UNIT MUST BE REPLACED (WHICH WOULD COST AROUND $350.00 TO $400.00 WHICH I REFUSE TO PAY). IGNITION SWITCH HAS BEEN GETTING LOOSE AND DIFFICULT TO TURN ON FOR A LONG TIME. RECEIVED NTSB RECALL LETTER ABOUT UNINTENTIONAL KEY ROTATION FOR THE 1999 CHEVY MALIBU. I FOLLOWED THE NTSB INSTRUCTIONS AND REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE KEY RING. ON APRIL 21, 2015 THE CHEVY DEALER GLUED A PLASTIC HOUSING TO MY KEYS. AFTER RECEIVING MY KEYS BACK I COULD HARDLY GET THE KEY TO ROTATE THE IGNITION LOCK, I HAD TO JIGGLE THE KEY QUITE VIGOROUSLY TO GET THE IGNITION TO OPERATE. FOUR DAYS LATER THE KEY FELL OUT OF THE IGNITION AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH. ALTHOUGH DIFFICULT TO STEER AND BRAKE I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY BRING THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, LOCATE THE KEY ON THE FLOOR AND AFTER REINSERTING THE KEY RESTARTED HE CAR. I HAD A ROLL OF TAPE IN THE GLOVE BOX AND I USED IT TO TAPE THE KEY IN POSITION. NO FURTHER DIFFICULTIES. ON APRIL 27, 2015 I REPLACED THE LOCK CORE SUCCESSFULLY. THE RECALL FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM IS NOT ACCEPTABLE OR SAFE. I KNEW THE IGNITION LOCK WAS GETTING BAD BUT WAS NOT AWARE THAT THE ENGINE WOULD SHUT DOWN IF THE KEY FELL OUT. THIS FIX GAVE ME A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY THAT A PROBLEM WAS TAKEN CARE OF. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER I THOUGHT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE LOCK CORE AND KEYS AND NOT JUST GLUE A HOUSING ONTO MY WORN-OUT KEYS. MY REPLACEMENT OF THE LOCK CORE SOLVED THE PROBLEM THE WAY THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE. A LETTER NEEDS TO GO OUT TO ALL THAT RECEIVED THE RECALL LETTER THAT THIS IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE FIX IF THE LOCK CORE IS NOT REPLACED. WHEN THE DEALER SHOWED ME THE FIX I LAUGHED AT THE TIME AND SAID YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME THAT I'VE WASTED 1:45 OF MY TIME WAITING FOR THE GLUE TO DRY. I DO NOT KNOW WHO THOUGHT THIS WOULD SOLVE ANYTHING OR APPROVED IT BUT I THINK THEY ARE AN IDIOT AND SHOULD BE FIRED FROM ANY POSITION OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SAFETY THAT THESE RECALLS ARE SUPPOSE TO ADDRESS. *TR

I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A PRIVATE OWNER NOT A DEALERSHIP. THE ONLY PROBLEM IT HAD WHEN WE BOUGHT IT WAS THE FUEL GAUGE DID NOT WORK. NOW ALMOST A YEAR LATER I HAVE MULTIPLE PROBLEMS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY ANOTHER MOTORIST THAT HER BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHTS HERSELF. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT LEAST FIVE TIMES A YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A MECHANISM WITHIN THE BRAKE LIGHTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY STARTING THE VEHICLE. WHEN SHE TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES FOR THE VEHICLE TO START. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED FOR THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT FUEL WOULD SPILL OUT OF THE TANK WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BEING FUELED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 114,000.

ANTI THEFT SYSTEM ON 1999 CHEVY MALIBU HAPPENS ALMOST EVERYTIME I TRY TO START THE CAR. THIS DISABLES THE FUEL FROM ENTERING THE ENGINE AND PREVENTS THE CAR FROM STARTING. AFTER TRYING TO START IT EVERY TEN MINUTES FOR AN HOUR IT FINALLY STARTED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. I PURCHASED A 1999 CHEVY MALIBU IN NOVEMBER 2003. I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AT LEAST 10 TIMES ($20 EACH TIME), THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES ($70 EACH TIME). THE BRAKES GIVE YOU NO WARNING THEY JUST QUIT SUDDENLY WHICH HAS ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. AT ABOUT 27000MI (3000MI. SERVICE) I NOTIFIED DEALER OF SQUEAKING IN FRONT & REAR SUSPENSION BUSHINGS. DEALER SPRAYED LUBE ON REAR (ABOUT $100)AND NOTIFIED ME THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO LOWER COMPLETE FRONT END TO LUBE FRONT, APPROX $200 MORE. EXTENDED WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER. AT 30000 MI SERVICE DEALER NOTIFIED ME I NEEDED COMPLETE BRAKE JOB. I INSPECTED BRAKES WHILE ON LIFT. MECHANIC SAID HE MADE MISTAKE! HE SAID THAT HE HADN'T PULLED WHEELS OF YET. SAID THERE WAS 80% LEFT, REPAIR INVOICE SAID 50% LEFT. A LITTLE OVER A WEEK LATER THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF TRANS FLUID ON GARAGE FLOOR & AIR CONDITIONING SMELLED LIKE URINE WHEN ON, ALSO SWITCHING ITSELF FROM RECIRCULATION TO FRESH. TOOK CAR TO DEALER, THEY REPLACED SWITCH, DEDUCTIBLE $SE ON EXTENDED WARRANTY, SPRAYED SOMETHING IN OUTSIDE VENT (MOLD THEY SAID?), AND TIGHTENED TRANS COOLING LINE, THEIR FAULT! THREE DAYS LATER COOLING LEAK, DEALER REPLACED WATER PUMP, DEDUCTIBLE $'S ON EXTENDED WARRANTY. TWO WEEKS LATER THE REAR POWER WINDOW ACTUATOR (MOTOR & CABLE ASSEMBLY) QUIT! I MIGHT HAVE USED THIS WINDOW 12 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT 99 MALIBU LS FROM CHAMPION CHEVROLET, RENO,NV. NEW IN 12/99! ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, I FEELS LIKE THEY ARE SABOTAGING MY VEHICLE TO GET BACK AT ME FOR DISCOVERING THEY LIED ABOUT BRAKE JOB! THE AIR CONDITIONER DOESN'T COOL PROPERLY. IT SEEMS THAT ONCE MY CAR IS GETTING COOL THE AIR CONDITIONER WILL SHUT OFF AND WILL BLOW WARM AIR. THERE ALSO IS A SHORT BETWEEN THE RECIRCULATING AIR BUTTON AND THE OUTSIDE AIR BUTTON. THE LIGHTS WILL BLINK ON AND OFF SIMULTANEOUSLY WITHOUT EVEN TOUCHING THE BUTTONS. SOMETIMES AN ODOR WILL COME FROM THE AIR CONDITIONER. THE REAR-PASSENGER DOOR IS HARD TO OPEN. MY ROTORS HAVE BEEN RESURFACED AND REPLACED. MY BRAKE PADS HAVE ALSO BEEN REPLACED BUT MY BRAKES STILL GRIND AND SQUEEK.

HAD COOLANT/OIL LEAKING FROM VALVE COVER/ INTAKE MANIFOLD. DEALER REPLACED ALL 5 GASKETS, OIL AND COOLANT. ONLY HAVE 31,000 MILES ON THE CAR. ALSO HAD RESISTOR FOR FAN CONTROL CHANGED. BLOWER WOULD NOT OPERATE IN POSITION 1 OR 2. ONE MONTH AGO IN JANUARY, HAD TRANSMISSION COOLING LEAK. DEALER SAID IT WAS "TRANSMISSION INTERNAL WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR" LEAKING WHEN I TOLD THEM IT WAS COOLING LINE. INVOICE SHOWS CHANGED HARNESS, WHICH I COULDNT TELL IT WAS NEW BECAUSE IT WAS DIRTY, AND CHANGED GASKET IN COOLING LINE. AT SAME TIME HAD A/C BLOWER CONTROL UNIT REPLACED. IVE HAD PROBELMS WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE I BOUGHT IT. TIRES WERE "CUPPED" AFTER FIRST ROTATION. DEARLER REPLACED 2 FRONT TIRES UNDER WARRANTY. NOW I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH TIRES/WHEELS AFTER EACH ROTATION WHEN REAR WHEELS ARE PUT UP FRONT. SAID PROBLEM MIGHT BE ALIGNMENT, WHICH IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. ALSO HAVE HAD HORN REPAIRED DUE TO INOP. DEALER FOUND WIRING HARNESS WASN'T CONNECTED. HAD CONTROL SWITCH CHANGED ON POWER DRIVERS SEAT. DRIVERS SEAT MOVES BACK/FORTH SLIGHTLY WHEN BRAKING/ACCELERATING. PASSENGER-SIDE AIRBAG WAS REPLACED DUE TO "SQUEAKING" WHEN HITTING BUMPS IN THE ROAD. HAD BATTERY REPLACED DUE TO ACID LEAK EATING OFF POSITIVE TERMINAL. HAD TO LEAVE CAR OVERNIGHT AT WORK BRAKES ARE DUE REPLACEMENT DUE TO "BRAKE FADE". CAR IS TOTAL DISAPOINTMENT. WOULD TRADE IT IN, BUT I OWE MORE THAN VEHICLE IS WORTH.

THE BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OUT. WHEN CHECKING THE PROBLEM FOR REPAIR WE FOUND THAT THE LIGHTS FAILED BECAUSE THEY HAD BEEN SO HOT THE PLASTIC MELTED OVER THE CONTACTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO 3 OF THE 4 LIGHTS, BUT THE 4TH HAS SIGNS OF BEING VERY HOT ALSO. THE FUSE SHOULD BLOW BEFORE THESE LIGHTS GET THIS HOT. THIS MANUFACTURING IS UNACCEPTABLE. PURCHASED VEHICLE 5/04/01. HAD TO RETURN 2 DAYS LATER FOR MELTED BRAKE LIGHT SOCKETS ON LEFT REAR. BULBS WERE REPLACED. MELTED AGAIN WITHIN 3 WEEKS. WENT BACK TO DEALER, WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T CHECK IT THEY WERE TOO BUSY. MADE APPOINTMENT TO HAVE FIXED. THEY REPLACED BULBS AND REWORKED SOCKET BUT IT STILL FAILED. THEY SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. I HAVE REPLACED BULBS ON AVERAGE EVERY 2-3 WEEKS. I THINK THEY HAVE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CAUSING THE BULBS TO MELT THE SOCKETS. NOW THE TURN SIGNAL AND BACK-UP LIGHTS ARE STARTING TO MELT. THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT ALSO WORKS SPORADICALLY. FRONT BRAKES SHUDDER WHEN APPLIED AND HAVE BEEN REPLACED, ROTORS WERE CUT. STILL HAVING SHUDDER AND EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCES.*AK

THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS ON ALL THE MALIBU SEEM TO HAVE A COMMON PROBLEM. THE RUBBER SEAL LEAKS WATER CAUSING THE BULBS TO SHORT OUT OR GET CORROSION ON THEM CAUSING THEM TO BE INOPERABLE. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS EVERY TIME IT RAINS OR THE CAR GETS WASHED.

AT LESS THAN 3000 MILES CAR STARTED TO LOSE POWER IN ACCELERATION. AND TRANSMISSION STARTED SHIFTING ROUGHLY. HAS NOW BEEN TO DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. MY CHILDREN AND I HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN RAN OVER BY OTHER AUTOMOBILES NUMEROUS TIMES, SIMPLY BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT GO. WHILE THE CAR WAS IN FOR THE 2ND REPAIR OF THE CLOCK SPRING THEY BROKE THE TILT LEVER AND SCRATCHED TRIM ON STEERING COLUMN. TIRES ARE WEARING UNEVENLY DEALER STATED THIS WAS NORMAL FOR A MALIBU. THIS CAR HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE THE FIRST DAY. I HAVE DRIVEN MORE LOANER CARS THAN I HAVE MY OWN THAT I CONTINUE TO MAKE PAYMENTS ON. MOST OF THE MILES ON MY CAR HAS BEEN DUE TO REPEATED VISITS TO THE SHOP. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS IS NOT THE NORMAL STATIC ELECTRIC SHOCK YOU OCCASIONALLY GET FROM OTHER VEHICLES. THIS IS ON THE ORDER OF THREE OR FOUR TIMES AS STRONG. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE ENERGY RELEASED DURING ONE OF THESE ELECTRIC SHOCKS COULD IGNITE GAS FUMES AT A GAS STATION WHEN I GO TO FILL UP THE GAS TANK.

WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE THE RPM GAUGE STARTED TO SHOW MAX RPM READINGS TO 0 AND CHANGING RAPIDLY. THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THIS CHECKED WHEN AT A INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE JUST CUT OFF. THE ENGINE DID NOT STOP BUT THE CAR COULD ONLY BE MOVED VERY SLOWLY UNTIL A MINUTE OR TWO PAST THEN THE SPEED WENT UP A BIT. THE REPAIR FACILITY FOUND A CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND THE COMPUTER TO BE THE FAULT. CURRENTLY THE VEHICLE RUNS GOOD, BUT THE GAS MILEAGE IS ONLY ABOUT 17-18 MPG. WILL TURN IT BACK INTO THE GERMAN DEALER TO HAVE THIS CHECKED. *AK

WAS DRIVING VEHICLE ON FREEWAY, HIT A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING INSTANTLY. ALL DASH LIGHTS CAME ON, ALL GAUGES WENT FLAT (SPEDOMETER, TACH, FUEL, TEMP), LOSS OF POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES. I HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE IGNITION ALL THE WAY OFF, THEN TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR. IT RESTARTED. DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM.
