The steering wheel start shaking and then on the middle console it showed “POWER STEERING”. Now whenever I drive it it’ll pop up and the steering wheel locks up and it is scary because it doesn’t move. And when I turn of the car it’ll unlock but as soon as I start driving it again it does it again.
I bought the car and the next day it randomly locked up my steering in the middle of traffic. If I turn my car off then turn it on while jerking the wheel side to side it will allow me power steering for just a short moment. Once it worked for a month continuously without shutting off on me then it randomly started locking up again. There’s no symptoms or warning except for the car steers on its own while in park. The wheel moves and makes a screeching noise. It’s locked up on me in traffic numerous times. It’s a huge hazard. Trying to get off the street when it locks up is just a safety hazard for everyone around.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the four doors would inadvertently lock and unlock, causing the battery to drain quickly. The contact used pliers to unlock and open the doors. Additionally, the headlights were dimmed, and the turn signals intermittently failed to operate as needed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the Body Control Module (BCM) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V252000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting, Vehicle Speed Control, Electronic Stability Control) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

I am financing a 2007 chevy malibu from r n r car co on 411 gratiot in mt Clemens has had one problem after the other first the brakes went fix I told them there was a sway problem up front wanted it fixed before I took it off the lot they did not I could’ve been seriously hurt the sway bar tie rod n control arm went in the front of the car dealership said would help with half the bill didn’t help fixed now my car wants to shut down and hesitate to go over 45 miles an hour the crankshaft position sensor wire n some button might need to be fixed im on social security seeking4 help from the va to help me get it fixed told dealership abt this wants 100 an hour from me to fix it plz advise thank you monica wheeler
When I start my car my steering wheel dances vibrates. When I'm driving 30 mph it will pull me to the right side of the road and be hard to steer. It does this a lot it scares me I'm disabled and have a hard time driving.
I was driving in the country and my vehicle power steering and electronic setting started messing up while I was driving 50 miles an hour while it was locking up I was confused and then pulled over and thought it was just a glitch in the computer system I then turned off my car and then turned it back on and everything seemed fine while I was driving after a minute the steering wheel locked again and there was a deer in front of me my insurance went up because of this incident and I lost my car for a month once I got my car again from the body shop it stopped locking up on the steering wheel then last Friday I brought it to the mechanic and he told me the steering is electronic so there is nothing he can do and that I will have to take it to a dealer the computer system in these cars are messed up and they are dangerous to drive there are thousands of complaints just like this and recalls for GM but for some reason the 2007 Chevy Malibu didn't make the cut.
THE IS A MESSAGE THAT COMES ACROSS THE RADIO SCREEN TO SERVICE AIRBAG. IT IS REFERRING TO THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG. WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT THE AIRBAG ON LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON THE INDICATOR LOCATED ABOVE THE RADIO. IT CONTINUES TO STATE THE AIRBAG IS OFF. ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP THE PART REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS DISCONTINUED BY GM AND THERE ARE NO AFTERMARKET PART FOR THIS. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT IT IS A MODULE. I FIRST ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM WHEN MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. MY VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY AND THE MESSAGE 'POWER STEERING' CAME ON THE DASHBOARD AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING ASSIST. I IMMEDIATELY LOOKED UP THE ISSUE AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE SO I WAS HOPEFUL ABOUT THE SITUATION. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A SUPPOSED 'WARRANTY' FOR MY VEHICLE AND I WAS OUT OF THE MILEAGE & TIME PERIOD FOR MY VEHICLE. AND ADDITIONALLY THE RECALL WAS NEVER GIVEN TO MY VEHICLE. IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE TO ME THAT THERE IS A SPECIFIC RECALL FOR THIS MODEL OF CHEVY MALIBU'S AND I OWN ONE AND MY CAR JUST SO HAPPENS TO NOT HAVE THE RECALL. I'VE CALLED CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY INSIST THEY ARE NOT LIABLE FOR THIS AND IT WILL BE AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE. MY POWER STEERING HAS CUT OUT ON ME ON THE HIGHWAY AND POSES A VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING EXPERIENCE. I WOULD LIKE TO SETTLE THIS BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS. FROM THAT POINT ON, MY STEERING WHEEL ITSELF HAS BEGAN TO TWIST AND TURN BACK AND FORTH WHILE VIBRATING, WITH NO ASSISTANCE FROM ME, AND IT DOES THIS ALL WHILE I'M DRIVING. I'M FORCED TO BASICALLY HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL WITH A TIGHT GRIP TO KEEP IT STRAIGHT. SINCE THAT DAY, MY POWER STEERING HAS WENT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING ABOUT 4 OR 5 TIMES, AND MORE THAN THAT IF YOU COUNT WHEN I FIRST START IT UP IN THE MORNING. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO EXPRESS MY CONCERN IN WHICH THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY SERVICED MY VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM ON 11/26/16... WHICH WAS A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO, SO I AM NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE REPRESENTATIVE PULLED UP THE RECALL DESCRIPTION FOR RECALL NUMBER 14152 AND THE CONSEQUENCES LISTED IN THE GM DIRECTORY WERE NOT THE SAME LANGUAGE AS THE CONSEQUENCES ON SAFECAR.GOV. SHE COULDN'T EXPLAIN WHY THE DESCRIPTION WAS NOT THE SAME IN THE GM DIRECTORY AS THE GOVERNMENT SAFECAR WEBSITE AND I FOUND THAT DISTURBING. SO THAT IS MY FIRST COMPLAINT--THE GM SYSTEM AND NATIONAL WEBSITE ARE NOT IN ACCORDANCE. SECONDLY, MY CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING SUDDENLY AND THE TRANSMISSION CYLINDER IN MY CAR IS OFF, UNDER MY VIN THE CAR HAD THE TRANSMISSION RECALL FIXED IN 2015 BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER. 3 YEARS LATER AND THERE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I WAS DRIVING IT 20 MINS PRIOR AND THEN THIS HAPPENS. THE RADIO,THE LIGHTS, THE HORN AND THE DINGING WITH THE DOOR OPEN, ALL STILL WORKED. UNSUCCESSFULLY TRYING TO START IT I LEFT IT ALONE TO GET TOWED. 5 DAYS LATER I RECEIVED MY CAR BACK SAYING IT STARTED JUST FINE THEY CAN'T DETECT WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT, BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T READ THE CODE IT GAVE OUT, AND TO KEEP NOTES OF WEIRD THINGS TO BRING IT BACK IN. IN DOING SO MY CAR WAS FINE FOR A MONTH AND A HALF, THEY'RE WERE NO ISSUES. THE NEXT TIME MY CAR DID THE CRANK AND NO START I NOTICED THE SECURITY ICON LIGHTING UP, AS WELL AS THE FACT THAT I LEFT MY RADIO AND AIR ON. IT'S LATE AT NIGHT, I'M ALONE AND MY CAR IS FAILING ME, AFTER TRYING FOR 15 MINUTES I GOT MY CAR TO START. THE THIRD TIME IS THE WORST TIME, BY THIS POINT IT'S ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER THE 2ND INCIDENT. SAME SCENARIO, JUST DROVE IT 20 MINS PRIOR AND IT WAS FINE, THEN ANOTHER CRANK NO START FOR HOURS. EVEN TRIED TO LEAVE MY KEY IN TO IGNITION. AFTER HOURS I GOT IT TO START AND MAKING IT HOME THE CAR SLOWED DOWN AND CAME TO A COMPLETE HALT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN EXTREMELY BUSY STREET, PUTTING ON MY BRAKE LIGHTS I AVOIDED GETTING REAR ENDED. THE CAR WOULD SEEM TO RETURN TO NORMAL SOMETIMES AFTER BEING RESTARTED. I HAD A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP CHECK IT OUT IN 5/15/2015 AND THEY FOUND NOTHING. SOMETIMES DURING THESE EPISODES, THE POWER STEERING WOULD ALSO LOSE POWER. THE PROBLEM RETURNED AND I HAD A MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT AND HE PUT IN A NEW IGNITION SWITCH 11/19/15. THE CAR HAS NOT GONE BERSERK SINCE THEN, BUT THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK RELIABLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ONCE, BUT WENT OFF. ALTHOUGH, THEY ENDED UP CHARGING ME $2,400 FOR ELECTRICAL, AND FUSE DAMAGE TO MY CAR THAT THEY SAY WAS NOT RELATED TO THIS RECALL, ALTHOUGH BASED ON EVERYTHING I HAVE READ I BELIEVE THESE CHARGES WERE A REFLECTION OF THE RECALL. MY HANDS WERE TIED AS I NEED MY CAR SO I PAID THE FEE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND CALLED GM AND HAD THEM OPEN UP A TICKET TO LOOK INTO MY ISSUE, CHARGES, AND WHAT THE DEALERSHIP FIXED. GM RESPONDED TO ME THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. IN 2012, I WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGING AND REFUSING TO RE-ENGAGE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DRIVER DOOR LOCK MALFUNCTION CAUSED BY POOR WIRE CONNECTION AND CONSUMER SEEKS REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE TIRE TRACTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND HE WAS UNABLE TO TURN IT OFF, AND THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. HE WAS ALSO UNABLE TO USE THE SPEED CONTROL SETTING, DURING THAT TIME. WHEN HE ARRIVED HOME, HE WAS UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE, BECAUSE THE DRIVER DOOR AUTO LOCK WOULDN'T OPERATE PROPERLY. TWO DAYS LATER, WHEN HE PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR DIDN'T LOCK AUTOMATICALLY, BUT ALL THE OTHER LOCKS WORKED PROPERLY. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE HARNESS CAME LOOSE AND IT CAUSED THE WIRING UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT TO CHAFF AND EXPOSE THE WIRING WHICH THEN TOUCHED EACH OTHER AND CAUSED THE MALFUNCTION. HE FURTHER ADVISED THAT, AS PART OF THE REPAIR, THE HARNESS AND WIRING WERE MOVED OVER FROM ITS ORIGINAL LOCATION SO THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD NEVER OCCUR AGAIN.

THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED IN 2010, BUT HAS PROGRESSIVELY BECOME WORSE AND MOST CONSTANT. THE VEHICLES ELECTRICAL STEERING WILL SHAKE AND JERK UNCONTROLLABLY AT TIMES. THE CAR DOES NOT ALWAYS SHAKE AND JERK, BUT THIS OCCURS AT LEAST ONCE PER DAY. SOME DAYS IT WILL SHAKE AND JERK NON STOP FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME, OTHERS IT WILL BE SHORT AND QUICK. THE CAR GENERALLY WILL SHAKE AND JERK FOR A FEW MINUTES, THEN WILL DISPLAY ON THE DISPLAY "POWER STEERING" AND CHIME. THE SHAKING OCCURS WHILE DRIVING AND ALSO WHEN IN PARK. DEPENDING ON THE SEVERITY, THE JERKING CAN JOLT THE CAR INTO THAT DIRECTION. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT IS VERY POSSIBLE THAT THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE JERKS ARE NOT CONTROLLABLE BY TWO HANDS. OFTEN WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR LOOKS AS IF IT IS JERKING BACK AND FORTH IN ITS LANE DUE TO THE ROUGH JERKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS IS THE MOST NERVE RACKING WHILE DRIVING IN WEATHER SUCH AS SNOW OR RAIN, WHERE THE ROAD IS SLICK OR SLIPPERY. HAVING THE CAR JERK AROUND ON ICE IS JUST AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A GM DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT INSPECTED. THE FUEL SENSOR ON OUR 2007 CHEVY MALIBU ONLY WORKS OCCASIONALLY. IT WILL TYPICALLY READ EMPTY REGARDLESS OF THE FUEL LEVEL AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. OBVIOUSLY A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AS MANY OWNERS ARE SEEING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE SENSOR IS INSIDE THE GAS TANK SO THIS ISSUE CANNOT BE DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEAR AND TEAR, IT IS SIMPLY A BAD DESIGN OR A BAD PART. EITHER WAY GM NEEDS TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE MISTAKE AND FIX THEIR MISTAKE. WITH COLD WINTER DRIVING AN INACCURATE FUEL SENSOR IS A HAZARD. THE TRIP METER CAN GIVE A ROUGH ESTIMATE, BUT AS MPG CHANGES CONSIDERABLY BETWEEN HIGHWAY AND CITY DRIVING AS WELL AS WINTER VS. SUMMER THIS IS NOT A VERY SAFE SOLUTION. *TR

2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEMS WITH GAS GAUGE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SHE RE-FUELED THE VEHICLE, THE GAS GAUGE REACHED APPROXIMATELY 3/4 FULL, THE FUEL GAUGE NEEDLE DROPPED TO EMPTY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE GAS GAUGE CONTINUED TO READ EMPTY AND THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON UNTIL THREE TO FOUR GALLONS OF GAS WAS USED. THE GAUGE WOULD THEN BEGIN TO READ THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE TANK AND WOULD CONTINUE TO DO SO UNTIL THE TANK WAS FILLED AGAIN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD REMAIN ON FOR SEVERAL DAYS UNTIL GAS WAS PUT IN THE TANK ABOVE 3/4 FULL. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE FUEL GAUGE LEVER SENSOR WAS POORLY DESIGNED. *JB UPDATED 06/19/12 *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ACCORDING TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL, THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM WAS NOT CALIBRATED CORRECTLY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT ONLY OFFERED TO COVER HALF OF THE REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE DEALER MADE UNKNOWN REPAIRS TO CORRECT THE FAILURE YET THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 40,000. UPDATED 6/21/10 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE TAILLIGHT, DASHBOARD AND LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS NEVER WORKED AND THE DEALER MADE NO ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, EXCEPT TO TELL THE CONSUMER HE NEEDED TO PURCHASE A $400.00 PART FROM THEM. I KNOW THAT THIS SAFETY ISSUE DOESN'T RANK UP THERE WITH STICKING GAS PEDALS, ETC., BUT I FEEL IT IS IMPORTANT ENOUGH THAT SOMEONE SHOULD LOOK INTO IT. ACTUALLY, THERE ARE TWO INTERRELATED DESIGN FLAWS WITH THE 'DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER' ON THE 2007 CHEVY MALIBU LS I BOUGHT LAST YEAR. THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER ('DIC') IS THE GREEN LED DISPLAY IN THE RADIO THAT NORMALLY DISPLAYS SUCH INFO AS TIME AND TEMPERATURE, ETC., BUT IT IS ALSO USED BY CHEVY TO DISPLAY WARNING MESSAGES. THE TWO PROBLEMS ARE: A). CRITICAL WARNINGS ' IN MY CASE A WARNING MESSAGE TO 'SERVICE AIRBAG' POPPED UP ONE EVENING ON THE DIC ' BUT IT WAS ONLY DISPLAYED ONCE (IT DID NOT APPEAR AGAIN THE NEXT MORNING OR THEREAFTER). SINCE CHEVY CONSIDERED THIS ISSUE IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO SUGGEST THAT I NOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED, I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE PROGRAMMED THIS WARNING (OR ANY SAFETY RELATED WARNING) TO STAY ON UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. B). THE DIC IS FAR TOO DIM TO SEE CLEARLY DURING MOST DAYLIGHT HOURS (EVEN ON MANY CLOUDY DAYS) AND IS FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES TOTALLY INVISIBLE IF THE DRIVER IS WEARING SUNGLASSES. JUST A QUICK SEARCH ON THE INTERNET WILL SHOW THAT THIS IS NOT A RECENT OR ISOLATED COMPLAINT'.I SEE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE DIC BEING TOO DIM GOING BACK TO AT LEAST 2004! WHEN I COMPLAINED TO CHEVY ABOUT THE DIMNESS ISSUE THEY TOLD ME THIS WAS 'NORMAL' (I IN TURN TOLD THEM THAT IT MAY BE 'NORMAL' BUT IT CERTAINLY IS UNACCEPTABLE ' ESPECIALLY GIVEN THAT HAD THE CRITICAL SAFETY WARNING COME ON DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS I PROBABLY WOULD NEVER HAVE EVEN SEEN IT AND WOULD STILL BE DRIVING AROUND WITH AN UNRESOLVED SAFETY ISSUE). *TR
