The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that in 2017 the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V252000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting, Vehicle Speed Control, Electronic Stability Control) however, the brake lights would illuminate randomly without the brake pedal being depressed. The contact stated that the brake lights would fail to illuminate whenever the brake pedal was depressed. The failure recurred at various speeds. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who added di-electric grease to the harness, replaced the brake harness, replaced the position sensor, and inspected the brake light. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer approximately 7 times since the recall repair was performed; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.

I'VE BEEN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE REGISTERING WHICH GEAR IT IS IN. THE GEARS SHIFT HARD, AND WHEN PLACING THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE VIGOROUSLY JERKS BACK AND FORTH. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE ROAD, IT SLOWED DOWN TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, AND WHEN IT FINALLY DID, IT JUST TAKES OFF WITH NO WARNING. WHEN PLACING THE VEHICLE ON PARK, AT TIMES IT WOULD STILL ROLL.. THERE IS ALSO THE POWER STEERING AND TRACTION CONTROL SENSORS THAT ARE BOTH ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE STEERING STIFFENING IN THE VEHICLE IS AN ISSUE ONLY SOMETIMES. HOWEVER, IT STILL WORRIES ME WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD WITH MY TODDLER IN THE VEHICLE AS WELL. I DID RESEARCH RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR OF MY VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL IN EACH AREA I'M HAVING TROUBLE IN. HOWEVER, WHEN I SPOKE WITH A CHEVROLET ASSOCIATE, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. I WON'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL IT'S SAFE AND I'M AFRAID OF AN ACCIDENT TAKING PLACE.

POWER STEERING FAILS WHILE DRIVING. DASHBOARD WILL SAY "TRACTION OFF, ESC OFF" AND I WON'T BE ABLE TO MOVE STEERING WHEEL. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN BUSY INTERSECTIONS. I HAVE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND RESTART IN ORDER TO GAIN POWER STEERING AGAIN. MECHANIC HAS DIAGNOSED IT AS TORQUE SENSOR/STEERING COLUMN. THIS WAS RECALLED ON MANY OTHER MALIBUS, BUT NOT MINE. A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM BUT WEREN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. DRIVING AT ABOUT 60 MPH ON A STRAIGHT AWAY, CAR LOST POWER STEERING AND SENSOR LIGHT SERVICE ESC/POWER STEERING STARTED FLASHING. THE STEERING FELT NO DIFFERENT PRIOR TO LOSING, NO NOISES. DROVE IT THIS WAY UNTIL I REACHED MY DESTINATION ABOUT 4 MILES AWAY. CAR SAT FOR 4 HOURS, TURNED IT BACK ON AND HAD REGAINED ALL STEERING AND NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. I HAVE NOTICED THAT FOR ABOUT THE PAST 4 YEARS, DURING THE COLDER MONTHS, THE SERVICE ESC/SERVICE TRACTION NOTIFICATION WILL RANDOMLY POP ON FOR NO OTHER REASON THEN THE COLD AND I LOSE TIRE TRACTION. PRETTY POSITIVE THIS IS WHAT CAUSED ME TO SLIDE OFF THE ROAD 2 YEARS AGO. WHENEVER I HAVE TAKEN IT TO DEALERSHIP FOR ANALYSIS, THEY CLAIM THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, BECAUSE THE LIGHT POPS OFF AS QUICK AS IT COMES ON. I HAVE ALSO SPECIFICALLY ASKED ABOUT AND LOOKED UP A RECALL FOR THIS, AND WHEN MY VIN IS ENTERED IT SHOWS THAT IT IS NOT NEEDED. I FOUND THE RECALL FROM 2014 FOR THE POWER STEERING ISSUE, SO EITHER THE PRIOR OWNER HAD IT FIXED AND IT DIDN'T LAST, OR IT WAS NEVER DONE TO BEGIN WITH BECAUSE SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG HERE. AFTER LIMPING HOME BY PHYSICALLY MAN-HANDLING THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAKE A TURN, WE MADE IT HOME. SEARCHED ON-LINE FOR POSSIBLE ISSUES AND FOUND A MULTITUDE OF OTHER 2009 MALIBU OWNERS FACING THE SAME IDENTICAL ISSUE. CHECKED THE GM WEBSITE FOR ANY POSSIBLE RECALLS AND NONE WERE FOUND. THE SAME WAS TRUE WHEN CONTACTING A LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD THAT COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THAT, WILL EVENTUALLY HAPPEN IF NOT FIXED. GM NEEDS TO STEP UP AND CORRECT THIS ISSUE.

YET IT'S HAVING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS THE RECALL CARS. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR PUSHED OUT OF A DITCH YESTERDAY BECAUSE IT'S SO HARD TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL I LOST CONTROL OF MY CAR. MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT IS ON, AND PRESSING THE BUTTON DOES NOT WORK. I SOMETIMES DON'T HAVE CONTROL TO UNLOCK MY DOOR AND HAVE TO CALL SOMEONE TO PHYSICALLY OPEN IT FROM THE OUTSIDE. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, ALSO MY BATTERY LIGHT. AND THEY ARE ALL GOOD AND UP TO DATE. MY TRACTION AND SYSTEM LIGHT IS ON TOO. THE STEERING ASSIST MOTOR, A NEW STEERING COLUMN(ELECTRIC) AND R&R STEERING COLUMN W/SGL SWITCH AND NEW TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. IT'S ALL CONNECTED. I HAVE YET TO FIND A RECALL FOR MY CAR ON MY VIN NUMBER BUT YET THERE WERE A FEW RECALLS ON MANY CARS INCLUDING MY 2009 MALIBU FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE BUT YET I NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING IN THE MAIL ABOUT IT. OVER THE PAST WEEK, MY VEHICLE WAS SENDING ME A ESC SERVICE MESSAGE AND I NOTICED THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY POWER STEERING. THIS HAPPENS WHEN MY CAR IS TURNED ON. THE POWER STEERING TURNS ITSELF TO MANUAL STEERING MAKING IT HARD TO TURN. I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF RESETTING IT TO MAKE THE POWER STEERING WORK AGAIN. WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION THE STEERING WHEEL IS PULSATING AND I'M AFRAID IT WILL GO INTO MANUAL STEERING. I BROUGHT IT DOWN TO MY MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED ME IT WAS A TORQUE SENSOR. HE THEN SAID HE DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL BACK IN 2014 (BULLETIN 14116B.) THIS BULLETIN EXPLAINS THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS MY CAR IS HAVING. HE CALLED HURD CHEVY IN JOHNSON RI AND THEY TOLD HIM THERE WAS A RECALL. I THEN CALLED HURD AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I THEN CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT MY VEHICLE (DIAMOND CHEVY, AUBURN MA) AND SPOKE TO AN ADVISOR NAMED SEAN. HE TOLD ME THERE WAS A RECALL BUT THE SPECIAL EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED 3/25/19 AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I THEN CONTACTED GM ON THEIR WEBSITE AND EXPLAINED TO THEM THE SITUATION. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THE PROBLEM IS, I NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING NOTIFYING ME OF THIS RECALL. IT SOUNDS LIKE DIAMOND KNEW ABOUT THE RECALL BUT THEY NEVER CONTACTED ME OR FIX IT THE LAST TIME I WAS THERE FOR MAINTENANCE. NOW I'LL HAVE TO PAY OVER $500 OUT OF MY OWN POCKET TO HAVE MY VEHICLE FIXED. I HAVE PROVIDED BULLETIN 14116B AND THE PAPERWORK MY MECHANIC RESEARCHED AND GAVE ME.

AFTER PULLING AWAY FROM ESPRESSO STAND THE POWER STEERING ON 2009 CHEVY MALIBU COMPLETELY FAILED W/OUT WARNING. THIS OCCURRED AS I WAS JUST GOING INTO A RIGHT HAND TURN IN A PARKING LOT AT APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 10MPH. I NEARLY HIT THE DRIVERS DOOR OF A VEHICLE IN THE INTERSECTION AS THEY WERE TAKING A LEFT TURN INTO THE PARKING LOT. THE STEERING WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND REQUIRED BOTH HANDS. I CAME TO A STOP AS I COMPLETED THE TURN, JUST BEFORE THE PARKING LOT EXITED TO A SIDE ROAD. THE TRUCK BEHIND ME WAS HONKING AND MY VEHICLE WAS BARELY POSITIONED SAFELY ON 'MY' SIDE OF THE DRIVEWAY. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO TURN RIGHT ONTO THE ROADWAY AND PULL AS FAR OFF TO THE SHOULDER AS I COULD. THE SHOULDER; IS ABOUT TWO CAR LENGTHS LONG BEFORE IT TURNS INTO A SIDEWALK. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN EASY TASK HOWEVER, DUE TO THE STEERING I COULD BARELY GET OFF THE ROADWAY- MY FRONT TIRES ALL BUT RESTING ON THE START OF THE SIDEWALK. THE MESSAGE CENTER ON MY DASH READ "POWER STEERING" FOLLOWED BY "SERVICE ESC" AND THE ESC/ TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE DASH WAS LIT UP. I CALLED FOR HELP & THEY ARRIVED WITHIN MINUTES. WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCESS THE POWER STEERING UNIT AS IS LOCATED UNDERNEATH THE ALTERNATOR, AND REQUIRES REMOVAL OF THE ALTERNATOR. ABOUT 30 MIN AFTER INCIDENT I MOVED CAR BACK SEVERAL FEET - STEERING WAS STILL HARD. I TURNED IT OFF. A FEW MINUTES LATER I TURNED BACK ON. STILL GETTING MESSAGE, BUT DECIDED TO DRIVE THE 5 MI BACK SINCE ONLY 2 TURNS WERE NECESSARY. ONE PERSON HELPING WAS IN FRONT AND ONE PERSON FOLLOWING. IT WAS UNEVENTFUL HOWEVER WARNING INDICATORS WERE STILL ON & STEERING EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. 3HRS LATER I TURN CAR ON TO GET MILEAGE AND NOTICED THAT INDICATORS ARE OFF. TESTED THE STEERING- IT HAS RESUMED TO NORMAL. VEHICLE IS DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 8MI HM. MESSAGE DISPLAYED TWICE DURING THIS DRIVE. VEHICLE HAD PRE-TRIP INSPECTION 1WK PRIOR. 108K MILE

I HAVE NOT HAD MY 2009 MALIBU FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET LOOKED AT AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME 140 DOLLARS FOR LOOKING AT IT, JUST TO TELL ME THE TRANSMISSION IS MESSED UP. I KNEW THIS. IT STARTED WHEN I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND A LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WAS REALLY HARD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAD TO SLOW WAY DOWN BECAUSE I COULD BARELY TURN THE WHEEL. THIS WAS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS TERRIFIED FOR MY LIFE WITH MY THREE YEAR OLD SON IN THE BACK SEAT. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE AND SHUT THE CAR OFF, THEN STARTED IT UP AGAIN. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS FINE. THEN AGAIN I GOT INTO MY CAR THE NEXT DAY AND IT DID IT AGAIN! BUT ONLY THIS TIME, IT DIDN'T STOP. NO MATTER WHAT. THEN MY CAR STOPPED SHIFTING. I CAPPED THEY CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY SET ME UP AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING MY CAR IN. I EXPLAINED IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IT SO THEY SCHEDULED A TOW FOR ME. THAT FOLLOWING WEEK, (CARLESS) I WAS WAITING FOR THE TOW TO SHOW UP AND NO ONE CAME. I CALLED THE DEALSHIP AND SHE SAID THAT SOMETHING HAPPENED AND I HAD TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE IN, I EXPLAINED, AGAIN, THAT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. SHE TOLD ME THAT I COULDN'T GET MY VEHICLE LOOKED AT THEN IF IT WASN'T THERE. I DROVE 20 MILES GOING TEN MILES AN HOUR WITH MY HAZARDS ON TO GET IT THERE, JUST TO LEAVE IT THERE FOR THREE DAYS THEN BE TOLD THAT MY TRANSMISSION IS MESSED UP AND THEY NEEDED FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FIX IT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR MULTIPLE "RECALL FIXES", FOR ELECTRICAL AND LIGHTING ISSUES. THE REGISTRY SHOWS THAT ALL RECALLS WERE FIXED (PURELY COSMETIC WORK) WITH REGARDS TO THE VEHICLES LIGHTS BEING REPLACED (RECEIVED FIX IT TICKETS BY THE AUTHORITIES). BUT MY CAR DIDN'T BURN OUT LIGHTS, SHE MELTED THEM, WHILE I WAS DEPLOYED, HER ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FRIED THE SECURITY SYSTEM AND THE CAR'S COMPUTER (BRAIN). REPAIRS WERE MADE IN 2014 WHEN I RETURNED FROM OVERSEAS, AND SHE WAS FINE FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS. THEN STARTED MALFUNCTIONING AGAIN IN 2015 AND 2016. I WAS CHARGED FOR REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENTS FROM CHEVY DEALERSHIPS AND THEY FIXED THE MINOR ISSUES. NOW IN 2019 THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS SHORTING OUT AGAIN STATING THAT THE ENGINE IS WORKING AT DECREASED POWER AND MY CAR IS DRAINING HER OWN BATTERY AND LOCKING UP. I BOUGHT HER USED BACK IN 2009, AND EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS OR YEARS THERE IS AN ELECTRONICS MALFUNCTION AND I'VE HAD SUCH HORRIBLE LUCK FINDING A TRUSTWORTHY DEALERSHIP TO TAKE HER TO FOR REPAIRS, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. SHE STILL CONTINUES TO HAVE ELECTRONIC SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS WHERE SHE'LL BURN OUT OR MELT A COMPONENT IN THE VEHICLE. SHE JUST STARTED MALFUNCTIONING AGAIN AND WHEN I INSPECTED THE BATTERY, SHE HAD MELTED THE PLASTIC HOUSING UNIT.

I LOOKED ONLINE TO FIND THE RECALL NUMBER 14V252000 MATCHING THE EXACT DESCRIPTION OF WHAT I'M EXPERIENCING IN MY CHEVY MALIBU. I SEARCHED ON VIN ON THE ONLINE DATABASE, BUT MY CAR DIDN'T APPEAR IN THE SEARCH EVEN THOUGH MY CAR MATCHES THE MAKE, MODEL, YEAR AND MANUFACTURE DATE RANGE (AUGUST 2008).

CHEVY IS AWARE OF THIS DEFECT AND WILL REPAIR THIS IF THE VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD AND HAD LESS THAN 150,000 MILES. WE COULD HAVE ALL DIED IN A CAR CRASH. THE CALIPER ARMS ON BOTH OF MY PASSENGER SIDE TIRES HAVE GOTTEN STUCK, WORE DOWN THE NEW BRAKE PADS COMPLETELY AND DESTROYED THE ROTORS OF MY CAR IN THE PAST. THE DEALERSHIP'S WARRANTY HAD COVERED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PADS, CORRECTION OF ARMS AND ROTORS PREVIOUSLY BUT THE SECOND OCCURRENCE HAPPENED AFTER MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AND WAS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. WHEN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE GOT STUCK THE SENSOR FOR MY TIRE PRESSURE WAS SHOWING BUT THERE WAS NO HESITATION OR ISSUE WITH BREAKING. A SOFT DRAGGING SOUND LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THE SENSOR ITSELF HAD DISCONNECTED FROM THE VEHICLE AND WAS DRAGGING ON THE GROUND AND MAKING A SOFT BUT STRANGE NOISE. ITS GOING TO TAKE ME 2 WEEKS TO GET INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN APPOINTMENT ' SINCE THEN, MY REAR ROTOR HAS BECOME EFFECTED AND WILL NEED REPLACING. THIS MORNING THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SENSOR REMAINED ON THE SCREEN BUT WHEN I FIRST STARTED DRIVING AND ATTEMPTED TO USE MY BREAKS, I DID NOT STOP AND MY FOOT TOUCHED THE GROUND AS I PRESSED THE PEDAL. AS I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT OF MY OFFICE (ABOUT 45 MINUTES OF MORNING COMMUTE), MORE LIGHTS LIT UP THE BACK PANEL INCLUDING THE EMERGENCY BREAK LIGHT, THE 'BRAKE FLUID,' WARNING, 'SERVICE ESC,' FOLLOWED BY 'ESC OFF' SCROLLED ACROSS THE DASH AND MY BREAKS DID NOT WORK AT ALL WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO SLOWLY STOP. I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE ESC WARNING LIGHT COMING ON PREVIOUSLY AND STOPPING MY POWER STEERING FROM WORKING BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULDN'T RECREATE THE WARNING SO THEY COULDN'T HELP ME.

THE GREENWOOD CHEVROLET REPLACED THE HEAD LIGHT BULBS 3 TIMES BUT IT HAS TO BE ELECTRICAL BEING THAT IT WENT OUT 3 TIMES IN 2 MONTHS I HAVEN'T EVEN HAD THE CAR A YEAR! ON MY WAY HOME FROM THE GROCERY STORE ON 3/6/2018 I ALMOST WRECKED BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON THE VEHICLE. I ATTEMPTED TO TURN AND ALMOST RAN INTO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THE SUSPENSION DOESN'T WORK EITHER. AS OF TODAY I CANNOT DRIVE AT NIGHT BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE ANY HEAD LIGHTS (THAT'S BEEN FOR 3 MONTHS) I CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR NOW BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE POWER STEERING TO DRIVE THE CAR. THE 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU'S HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE "ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST". I CURRENTLY OWN A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU AND HAD AN INCIDENT OVER THE WEEKEND IN WHICH MY POWER STEERING ASSIST WAS LOST AND STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE AND WAS LOCKED IN PLACE. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER, THEY ADVISED THAT THESE MODELS HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE WAS 1025 MILES OVER THE MILEAGE TO HAVE IT FIXED UNDER THE RECALL. AFTER RESEARCH ON GM SITE ON THE NHTSA SITE, WE FOUND INFORMATION COLLABORATING THIS RECALL, IN WHICH IT STATED THAT UNDER THIS RECALL THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO FIX THIS; HOWEVER, MY CHEVROLET MALIBU'S VIN NUMBER DID NOT POP UP ON THIS RECALL. NHTSA STATES THAT THIS PROBLEM AFFECTS 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU'S AND DOES NOT LIST VIN'S AFFECTED. WE WOULD ASSISTANCE IN HAVING THIS VEHICLE ALSO ADDED TO THE RECALL LIST AND HAVING GM FIX THIS PROBLEM WHICH IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE.

I HAD TO PUT REPLACE THE WINDHIELD WIPER ASSEMBLY THAT ONE SUCKED I COULD NOT OPERATE THE CAR FOR A WEEK UNLESS IT WOULD RAIN AND THIS WAS HAPPENING THIS APRIL WHEN ITS ALWAYS RAINING THEY ACTUALLY QUIT WORKING ON FOURTH OF THE JULY GOING 70MPH DOWN INTERSTATE 79 IN POURING RAIN. I PURCHASED AS MANY RAIN DETERRENTS AS I COULD TRY OUT WHICH NONE LAST BUT A FEW MINS.. THEN BETWEEN GETTING PULLED OVER BY POLICE COUNTLESS TIMES FOR HEADLIGHT BEING OUT AND I FIX IT THEN THE SAME ONE OR EVEN THE OTHER SIDE THE NEXT WEEK WILL GO OUT JUST 1 MONTH LATER IT GOES BACK OUT AND THAT SAME COP STOP YOU AGAIN AND THEY DON'T BELIEVE YOU THAT IT WAS JUST REPLACED. THEN THE INTERIOUR LIGHTS ALL OF THEM FROM GAUGES AND HEADLAMPS TURN ON. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY TELLING ME TO SERVICE SVC TIRE SENSORS AND OTHER ABBREVIATED SENSORS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT IS ON. ALSO AND MAYBE THE MOST DANGEROUS IS THE CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTIONS WHICH RANGE FROM ONLY WORKING OCCASIONALLY TO ACCELERATION ENGAGES IF YOU SCROLL THREW SCREEN OPTIONS AND USE CRUISE CONTROL SIMULTANEOUSLY . AND SOMETIMES MY TRUNK WILL JUST POP OPEN WHEN THE CAR STARTS. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD TURN ON WHILE DRIVING AND THE RPM TACH WOULD REV UNCONTROLLABLY. WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED, THE LIGHT TURNS OFF AND THE ESC WARNING APPEARS ON THE DASH. FIXED IN 2014 AS PART OF THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING RECALL (14V252000). AS OF THE LAST TWO MONTHS, THE PROBLEM STARTED UP AGAIN. FIRST, I WENT AND DIAGNOSED IT AT A REPAIR SHOP AND IT TOLD ME THE BRAKE POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE CALIBRATED. AFTER THAT WAS FIXED, THE PROBLEMS OCCURRED AGAIN AND REPLACED THE SENSOR. AFTER THE SECOND TIME, THE PROBLEM WAS STILL NOT FIXED. AFTER GOING TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND GETTING THE CONCERN FIXED, IT IS STILL NOT FIXED.

THE GUY CHARGED ME 95.00 JUST FOR A DIAGNOSTIC, AND I DIDN'T GET A WARNING THAT THIS WILL BE A CHARGE, ON TOP OF IT HE WANTED TO CHARGE ME 800.00 TO FIX OTHER THINGS ON MY VEHICLE, WHEN MY MAIN CONCERN WAS THE POWER STEERING. I FELT TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF, AND NO ONE EXPLAINED TO ME AS TO WHY THIS TOOK PLACE. I AM THINKING IT MUST BE APART OF THE RECALL. SO I SENT A LETTER TO CORPORATE ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE. WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING, THE CAR WILL JERK AND MISFIRE, AND SLOWLY PICKS UP SPEED WHILE JERKING. AS SOON AS THE LIGHTS GO OFF, THE CARD DRIVES PERFECTLY FINE. TOOK TO DEALER AGAIN, WAS TOLD THAT THEY SAW ALL THE CODES, BUT COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM, CLEANED THE WIRE LEADS AND THAT WAS THAT. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER, STARTED UP AGAIN. THIS TIME, ALL THE LIGHTS COME ON, NEARLY EVERY ELECTRIC LIGHT WARNING YOU CAN THINK OF, AND ALL OF THE GAUGES DROP TO ZERO. THE CAR JERKS INTO GEARS, SOMETIMES THE POWER STEERING DOESN'T WORK, VERY HARD TO TURN, AND ON TOP OF THAT, THE AIR CONDITIONING STOPS WORKING. IT'S SO RANDOM AND INTERMITTENT, AS SOON AS THE SERVICE ESC LIGHT GOES OFF (ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER WARNINGS). THE CAR DRIVES LIKE ITS BRAND NEW, AIR WORKS PERFECTLY FINE, POWER STEERING WORKS PERFECTLY. THE SAD PART ABOUT IT IS THAT I HAD TAKEN MY CAR IN A COUPLE TIMES, WHILE I WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, AND THE DEALERSHIP, 'COULD NOT DUPLICATE, COULDN'T FIND PROBLEM, NOW IT IS HAPPENING MORE OFTEN THAN NAUGHT, ESPECIALLY IN WARM WEATHER. THIS VERY COLD WINTER, THE PROBLEM DID NOT OCCUR NOT ONCE, AS SOON AS THE WEATHER WARMED UP, THE PROBLEM OCCURS. SOMETIMES EVERYDAY, SOMETIMES IT'LL GO A WEEK AND THE CAR DRIVES PERFECTLY. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND THE "SERVICE ESC / SERVICE TRACTION" CAME ON, ON MY 2009 CHEVY MALIBU. THERE WAS A SLIGHT ROUGHNESS ON THE ENGINE. HELLO, MY CAR'S SERVICE TRACTION AND SERVICE ESC LIGHT TURNS ON INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE BRAKE LIGHTS BEHAVE IN THE OPPOSITE WAY, I.E. THEY STAY ON DURING NORMAL DRIVING, TURN OFF WHEN I PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND TURN BACK ON WHEN I RELEASE THE BRAKE. THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK WHENEVER THIS HAPPENS. I DO NOT EXPERIENCE ANYTHING DIFFERENT WHILE DRIVING AND I BELIEVE THIS IS A SENSOR/CIRCUITRY ISSUE. I HAD THIS REPAIRED AT THE DEALER THE FIRST TIME (AUGUST, 2012) WHERE THEY PERFORMED THE TSB FIX OF ADDING GREASE TO THE ESC CONNECTORS. THIS PROBLEM HAS RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES, AND I EVEN HAD THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH REPLACED, AND IT NOW OCCURS WHENEVER IT RAINS. I READ THROUGH THE FORUMS AND NEWS WEBSITES AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN A LOT OF CHEVY VEHICLES. RE-OCCURRENCE OF A PRIOR COMPLAINT. DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY WHEN THE SERVICE TRACTION AND SERVICE ESC DISPLAYS CAME ON. CAR BEGAN TO SPUTTER AS THOUGH IT WERE GOING TO STALL. COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, AND AFTER IDLING FOR A MINUTE THE DISPLAYS RETURNED TO NORMAL. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 2 MILES FURTHER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IT CONTINUED TO HAPPEN THROUGHOUT THE REST OF MY DRIVE. THE NEXT DAY, IT RAN FINE FOR ABOUT 10 MILES OR SO, AND THEN BEGAN STALLING AGAIN AND BEGAN TO LOSE SOME BRAKING AND STEERING. DRIVING ON A STRETCH OF HIGHWAY AT 55MPH, MY SERVICE TRACTION AND SERVICE ESC LIGHTS CAME ON. IMMEDIATELY, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING, BRAKING, AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL. VEHICLES BEHIND ME STARTED BRAKING. UPON GUIDING MY VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, IT STALLED OUT. WHEN I WALKED TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, I SAW THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE LOCKED IN THE ON POSITION, SO DRIVERS BEHIND ME WOULD HAVE PERCEIVED MY VEHICLE AS STOPPING. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT IT STILL WAS VERY SLUGGISH AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ON. I CONTACTED A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN BECAUSE IT COULD BE CAUSED BY MANY FACTORS AND COULD COST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO DIAGNOSE AND CORRECT DEPENDING UPON THE ISSUE. I LIMPED MY VEHICLE TO A LOCAL GARAGE THAT TOLD ME THE SAME THING, BUT WAS ABLE TO NARROW THE ISSUE DOWN TO A FAULTY MAP SENSOR. MY VEHICLE HAD TO BE PUSHED INTO A SERVICE BAY BECAUSE IT NO LONGER WOULD RUN AT ALL. THE MAP SENSOR WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE HAS RUN FINE. HE GOT OUT OF HIS CAR WHILE THE TRAFFIC WAS STOPPED AND APPROACHED ME TO LET ME KNOW I HAD NO BREAK LIGHTS AND HE ALSO NOTICED THAT PRIOR TO STOPPING MY BREAK LIGHTS WERE ON. IN THE MEANTIME I HAD WARNINGS POP UP ON MY CAR SERVICE TRACTION/ESC SERVICE. WELL OF COURSE, MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO A SHOP WHERE IT SHOWED A BREAK SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND SWITCH BRAKE NEEDED TO BE CALIBRATED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE BREAK SWITCH FAILED WHEN THEY PERFORMED BRAKE POSITION CALIBRATION. THE GENTLEMEN SAID THAT THE SWITCH COULD BE BAD EVEN THOU IT WAS A NEW ONE THAT WAS PURCHASED FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED IT AGAIN AND RE-CALIBRATED AND AFTERWARDS SAID EVERYTHING WORKS WELL. WHILE SLOWING DOWN WHILE ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A STOP THE WARNING SYSTEM CAME ON TO SERVICE THE STABILITY CONTROL AND TRACTION CONTROL. THIS WORKED FOR 3 MONTHS WHEN AGAIN THE WARNING NOTICE CAME ON. TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND THEY REPLACED THE SWITCH AGAIN FIGURING IT MAY BE DEFECTIVE. I HAD JUST HAD THE VEHICLE IN TO HAVE A HEADLIGHT REPLACED THE PRIOR WEEKEND AND I NEVER NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHTS NOT WORKING, AND THE DEALER THAT REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT NEVER MENTIONED IT EITHER. I'M THINKING THEY WOULD HAVE IF THEY COULD CHARGE ME TO FIX SOMETHING ADDITIONAL ON THE CAR. I JUST PAID $250 TO REPLACE WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS A BURNED OUT BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH ON MARCH 9TH, (PALMEN MOTORS, KENOSHA, WI), AND ITS ALREADY RECURRING. I HEARD PART OF POSSIBLE RECALL ON WNN ABC NEWS AND STARTED RESEARCHING AND ENDED UP AT YOUR SITE THIS MORNING. I WANT TO REPORT THIS. THERE'S NO TELLING HOW MANY DOLLARS HAVE BEEN PAID TO MECHANICS TO FIX UNNECESSARY REPAIRS BECAUSE OF THIS! I AM FURIOUS! WHILE DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD THIS ESC LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND TELLS ME TO SERVICE TRACTION SOON. INTERMITTENTLY, THE BRAKE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND REMAIN LIT SOLIDLY UNTIL THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, THEN IT GOES OFF -- ACTING OPPOSITE OF THE WAY IT SHOULD. AT NIGHT, THE LIGHT IS VISIBLE IN THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR AND WE CAN SEE IT COME ON. WE THEN DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WILL REMAIN ON TAIL LIGHTS ONLY FOR A FEW MINUTES, THEN IT GLOWS BRIGHTLY AGAIN AS THOUGH THE DRIVER WERE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON TAIL LIGHTS ONLY, THE BRAKE LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE CORRECTLY WHEN THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED AND THE BRAKES APPEAR TO BE EFFECTIVE. THERE IS AN OCCASIONAL "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" AND "SERVICE ESC" LIGHT THAT APPEARS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. WHEN THE FAULT CODES ARE SCANNED WITH AN ABS BRAKING SYSTEM CODE READER, IT YIELDS A C-0131 ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM PRESSURE CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS PRETTY PREVALENT WITH LATE MODEL CHEVROLET VEHICLES FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET, BUT THE REPAIR PROCEDURE IS NOT CLEAR TO ANYONE WHO IS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. SOME SAY THAT IT IS A $1,000.00+ DEALER REPAIR ITEM AND THAT THE PROBLEM TENDS TO OCCUR AT THE END OF THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY PERIOD, JUST LIKE OURS DID. IT IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING AND DISTRACTING TO OTHER DRIVERS, SOME OF WHOM PULL ALONGSIDE AND SAY THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT IS WORKING "OPPOSITE" OF THE WAY IT SHOULD. THE BRAKES SEEM EFFECTIVE, BUT IN CASE OF A LOSS OF TRACTION, SKID, ETC., I AM NOT SURE WHAT THE RESULT MIGHT BE TO THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL OR THE TRACTION CONTROL -- BOTH OF WHICH WE KEEP TURNED OFF TO MINIMIZE ANY PROBLEM UNTIL I CAN LOCATE AN APPROPRIATE FIX. IT SEEMS THAT A RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES IS IN ORDER. *TR

BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT POWER STEERING GAVE OUT. SERVICE ESC LIGHT CAME ON. POWER STEERING MESSAGE LIT. PULLED INTO PARKING SPOT SHUT CAR OFF. STARTED CAR SECONDS LATER - NO WARNING LIGHTS ON AND POWER STEERING WAS BACK BUT DID NOT FEEL RIGHT. TURNED WHEEL WHILE PARKED AND ESC AND POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. TRIED AGAIN, SAME THING. HAD TO DRIVE 2 MILES TO HOME WITH NO POWER STEERING. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 34 DEGREES AT THE TIME. *TR

HAVE TOLD THE DEALERSHIP OF THESE PROBLEMS WITH THE SERVICE AIRBAG AND SERVICE TRACTION. ALSO I SENT AN EMAIL TO THE CHEVROLET HEADQUARTERS AND RECEIVED A CALL FROM THEM TELLING ME THAT IT WAS MY REPAIR NOT THEIR FAULT. THIS PAST FRIDAY THE 20TH I TOOK THE CAR AGAIN TO THE DEALERSHIP AS THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON CONSTANTLY FOR THE PAST TWO WEEKS. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE MODULE WAS BAD AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $250.00 DOLLARS ( MY DEDUCTIBLE SINCE I HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, PAID EXTRA FOR THAT WHEN WE BOUGHT THE CAR). HOW CAN A MODULE BE BAD ON A 2 YEAR OLD CAR IS THE ISSUE I AM HAVING AND WHY I HAVE TO PAY TO FIX/REPLACE IT. I COULD UNDERSTAND IF THE CAR WAS OLDER, BUT FEEL ANYTHING ELECTRONIC THAT GOES WRONG WITH A CAR TODAY NOW FALLS ON THE CONSUMER.
