Had a recall repaired yet it still randomly my brake lamps still don’t function correctly
While driving at night with the lights on, the rear taillights are bright all the time. when you press the brake pedal, the rear taillights go dim or completely dark. brake lights are working opposite what they should be doing. Fixed once with local mechanic. Fixed second time at dealership with a 'technical service bulletin' and now it is having the same problem for third time.
I have a 2009 chevy malibu that is under the NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V252000. The recall fix on this vehicle was performed but did not fix the issue and when contacting the local gm dealerships (multiple ones) I was told that the recall was closed on this vehicle and they refused to help at all. this is a very deadly issue the brake lights staying on until you press the brake pedal then they go out when stopped can cause a fatal accident these vehicles need to be properly fixed or repurchased by GM. this is a recurring issue with these vehicles.
Per GM July2014 recall 13036 This issue with the BCM has caused my rear window break lights to function the opposite of how they are to work. I continue to experience Service ESC and Traction Control messages while driving the car. This is the second issue I have had since the recall. Per the recall, it is for the owners safety. I cannot take this chance and I need to have GM revisit the original recall and note it has not resolved the issue for my car. I fear I will be hit from behind because the brake light is not illuminated. I drive children!! Please look into why the break pedal position sensor is faulty.
As I'm driving down the road my vehicle will engage the brake without warning while I'm in a curve or turning and it's extremely dangerous. I had a 18 wheeler behind me and my car came to an abrupt stop without warning as I was getting onto the interstate
When I am going down the road the vehicle comes to a complete stop in a curve sometimes and it's dangerous. Only the bright lights work on the vehicle. The esc activates and turns off a lot when you least expect it
My 2009 malibu has had the recall fixed a few years ago for the brake lights but they are currently turning on when I let off the brake peddle and turn off when I press the brake peddle but at random times. Everytime I drive I never know if my brake lights are on when they need to be or if I'm driving with no lights. My ESC and traction control error keeps coming on and going away as well. Not sure if these issues are connected but started around the same time.
My brake light illuminate while driving when not touched.. if I tap the brake they will turn off. they do not always come on when I press the brake .I have taken the vehicle to the shop and they did work on the brake system and it still does the same thing .I then found out there was a recall for 2009 Chevy malibus but for some reason my car does not fall under the category and I am unsure as to why considering I have the exact same issue as the recall States. This has continued for the past year (everytime I drive the car no matter how far or fast or how long ) and is getting worse. My drive to work daily is an hour and 15 minutes one way and it happens at least 30-40 times in one trip.
There is a recall that was preformed on my vehicle before I bought it for brake light issues NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V252000. The issue has come back I just bought the car. I called the dealer and they said it had been fixed in 2014 but it has started doing the same thing and they said that they can fix it but I will have to pay. I have tried to call the corporate gm office but keep getting sent back to the dealer near me
My brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal is not pressed and fails to illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed. This issue is part of a previous recall and has not been repaired.

While driving the brake pedal was depressed however, the brake lights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake pedal switch and calibration needed to be repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the brake pedal switch was replaced. The manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V252000 (Electrical system, Exterior Lighting, Vehicle Speed Control, Electronic Stability Control). The failure mileage was 98,514.

After the vehicle was repaired, the ESP system with the warning light illuminated. Due to the failure, the braking system activated without the brake pedal being depressed. Additionally, on occasions, the brakes failed to operate as intended with the brake pedal depressed. The contact stated that the brakes functioned opposite to what was intended. The failure was intermittent but started occurring more frequently. The contact contacted the local dealer who confirmed the failure however, the dealer was not able to do the repair under the recall. The contact was informed that in 2017 the manufacturer released information for a special coverage regarding the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. MY POWER STEERING WHEEL HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE THEN NOT LESS THAN A YEAR MY POWER STEERING WHEEL GOES OUT AGAIN. MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ALSO ON AND NEVER TURN OFF. IT'S SCARY BECAUSE NO ONE KNOWS WHEN I'M ACTUALLY BRAKING.

FOR YEARS NOW I HAVE HAD A FEW ISSUES. ONE OF WHICH IS THE LOCKS WITH IN THE VEHICLE. AT ONE POINT ONE LOCK WOULDNT BE RECOGNIZED BY THE FOB OR INTERNAL LOCKING MECHANISM AND THEN EVENTUALLY ALL LOCKS WOULD BE UNRESPONSIVE. I NOW HAVE TO MANUALLY LOCK AND UNLOCK ALL DOORS. SECOND ISSUE IS THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT. IT APPEARS THAT IT WANTS TO WORK WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT. I TYPICALLY SEE IT WORKING IN EARLY MORNINGS WHEN ITS COLD, AND THEN EVENTUALLY IT DIMS OUT AND COMPLETELY STOPS WORKING. I HAVE NOTICED THIS IN OTHER MALIBU'S THAT I SEE DRIVING AND I HAVE READ ON MANY OTHER FORUMS THAT BOTH OF THESE ISSUES EXIST. I REALLY WISH THE MANUFACTURER WOULD ISSUE A RECALL FOR BOTH OF THESE. THIRD, IM ROUGHLY 200LBS SOAKING WET AND FOR WHATEVER REASON THE SEAT BRACKET THAT IS USED TO LIFT AND TILT HAS BROKE. MY DRIVER SEAT NOW LEANS TO ONE SIDE AND I CAN NO LONGER LIFT IT UP BECAUSE OF THIS.

ON 28 FEBRUARY 2020, MY 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU EXPERIENCED A TOTAL LOSS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKING AS A RESULT OF A LOSS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKE PRESSURE DUE TO CORROSION-INDUCED FAILURE OF BOTH THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES THAT SUPPLY BRAKE FLUID FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE BRAKE PRESSURE MODULATION VALVE (BPMV), WHICH WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED BUT FOR A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES. BOTH HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES FAILED WITHIN AN HOUR OF ONE ANOTHER AFTER TRAVELING ABOUT 50 MILES, FORTUNATELY WITHOUT RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. EACH OF THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES HAD FAILED DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION. THESE PIPES WERE NOT NYLON COATED AS WERE THE REMAINING BRAKE LINES IN THE VEHICE, AND EACH EXTENDED DOWNWARDS ABOUT 8 INCHES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER, TO A CORRESPONDING ELBOW DEFINING A CORRESPONDING LOW POINT, FROM WHICH EACH LINE EXTENDED UPWARDS ' VIA A FLEXIBLE LINK PORTION ' TO THE BPMV. THE ELBOWS ' BEING LOCATED ABOUT 8 INCHES BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER ' ARE IN PROXIMITY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE BODY, AND ARE THEREFORE EXPOSED TO ROAD SPLASH, INCLUDE SALT SPRAY DURING WINTER MONTHS. WITH THE ELBOWS DEFINING LOW POINTS OF THE ASSOCIATED HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES, ANY WATER OR SALT-WATER SPRAYED ONTO THOSE PIPES WILL GRAVITATE, AND THEN CLING, TO THOSE ELBOWS UNTIL BEING EVAPORATED THEREFROM, LEADING TO CORROSION THEREOF AT A SUBSTANTIALLY ACCELERATED RATE RELATIVE TO WHAT WOULD OCCUR IF THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES DID NOT EXTEND BELOW ' OR AT LEAST SO FAR BELOW ' THE MASTER CYLINDER; OR IF AT LEAST THE ELBOWS HAD BEEN OTHERWISE COATED WITH NYLON AS ARE ALL THE REMAINING STEEL HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES FROM THE BPMV TO THE WHEEL CYLINDERS.

I NOTICED THAT MY BRAKES LIGHTS DIDN'T ILLUMINATE WHEN HE WAS STOPPING, THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND WE PROCEEDED DOWN THE ROAD. I THEN SAW THE BRAKES LIGHTS GOING ON AND OFF A COUPLE OF TIMES. WE WERE NOT COMING UP ON A LIGHT, NOR WAS THERE ANYONE IN FRONT OF HIM. WHEN WE GOT TO OUR DESTINATION, I ASKED IF HE WAS TAPPING THE BRAKES WHEN WE PULLED AWAY FROM THAT RED LIGHT, AND HE SAID NO, NOT ONCE. THIS ISSUE CONTINUES TO HAPPEN, ALMOST CAUSING ME TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. STEERING- THE POWER STEERING WILL JUST STOP WORKING WHEN I AM DRIVING. IT DOES THIS OFTEN. TO CORRECT IT, I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO DO THIS A FEW TIMES RIGHT IN A ROW BEFORE IT CORRECTS THE PROBLEM. I HAVE LOOKED UP RECALLS FOR MY YEAR VEHICLE. CURRENTLY, THERE ARE RECALLS FOR BOTH OF THESE ISSUES, JUST NOT FOR MY VIN. I CANNOT HELP BUT THINK THAT IF THE SAME EXACT ISSUES HAVE BEEN HAPPENING WITH OTHER VEHICLES FROM THE SAME YEAR AS MINE AND THEY HAVE GOTTEN THE RECALLS, THAT THERE IS A VERY GOOD CHANCE THAT MINE SHOULD PROBABLY BE INCLUDED IN THESE RECALLS AS WELL. THE CAR TURNS OFF WHILE ACTIVELY DRIVING (IN MOTION) , SOMETIMES WILL START UP IN NEUTRAL OR PARK RIGHT AWAY AND SOMETIMES NOT. ON I-95 AND CITY STREET. DEALERSHIP STATED THE TIMING CHAIN NEED TO BE DONE SO IT GOT DONE AND CAR STILL DOING THE SAME THING. SENSORS ALSO HAS BEEN REPLACED.

"TAKATA RECALL" RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING AND IN PARK, EVEN WHEN I AM SITTING AT A RED LIGHT MY CAR MY LOCKS WILL LOCK AND UNLOCK WITHOUT ME PUSHING THE BUTTONS ON THE DOOR, WHICH ARE BROKEN AND THE DEALER WOULD NOT FIX IT UPON REQUEST. ALSO MY CAR WILL STALL AT TIMES BECAUSE THE DOOR LOCKS ARE MOTIONING ON THEIR OWN. FOR SOME REASON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN THE CAR MESSED WITH THE LOCKS WHEN THE PRIOR OWNER PUT IN A AUTO START IN THE CAR, WHICH I DID NOT KNOW OF UNTIL THE CAR WAS OWNED AND IT WAS'NT TOLD TO ME EITHER. I FEEL THIS CAR WAS A ROUGH STRUGGLE SINCE GETTING IT AND NOW ITS SO HARD TO GET FIXED BECAUSE OF SOMEONE ELSE'S NON KNOWLEDGE BEFORE SELLING IT.

THEN WHEN PRESSING DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL GENTLY, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD TURN OFF. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, BUT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE OFF. PUSHING FURTHER DOWN ON THE PEDAL WOULD MAKE THE CAR RESPOND CORRECTLY.

PASSENGER SIDE LOWER BEAM LIGHT CONTINUES TO BLOWOUT (HAVE REPLACED THREE TIMES IN AS MANY MONTHS) ALSO TURN SIGNAL WILL NOT ALWAYS CLICK OFF AFTER TURNING. AS FAR AS REPAIRS ON TRACTION,ESC BRAKE LIGHTS AND DOWNSHIFTING, I REMOVED THE BCM CONNECTOR, CLEANED IT AND USED DIELECTRIC GREASE ON IT AND AS OF NOW SEEMS TO HAVE RESOLVED THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER, THE HEADLIGHT PROBLEM IS ONGOING AS WELL AS THE TURN INDICATOR, IF YOU WILL GO ONLINE, (GOOGLE) LOWER BEAM HEADLIGHT PROBLEM ON CHEVY MALIBU'S AS WELL AS AS THE OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, YOU WILL FIND NUMBEROUS COMPLAINTS, BUT NO RECALLS

PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL AS I SEE 09 MALIBU S DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH BRAKE LIGHTS ON ROUTINELY AND THE WEB HAS TONS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING. THERE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE #16188. THIS RECALL REPLACES BREAK APPLY SENSOR AND THE BPPS HARNESS AND CONNECTOR REPAIR. BUT IN THE BULLETIN IT STATES THAT THE ISSUE IS CAUSE BY THE BCM VOLTAGE SURGES. TO ME THE RECALL SHOULD INCLUDE THE BCM. THE RECALL REPAIRS THAT DAMAGED CAUSE BY THE BCM. WHY IS THE BCM NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE HAD THE RECALL COMPLETED AND HAVE HAD THE SAME BRAKE ISSUE 4 ADDITIONAL TIMES. I CURRENTLY HAVE MY CAR IN A GM DEALER RIGHT NOW AND I AM NOW TOLD THAT I SHOULD REPLACE THE BCM. DRIVING DOWN AN EXPRESSWAY ABOUT 60MPH AND THE POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING, A MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON MY DASH "POWER STEERING SERVICE ESC" THE ABS INDICATOR LIGHT ALSO DISPLAYED AT THE SAME TIME. I HAVE NO POWER STEERING. MY CAR HAS APPROX 125,000 MILES ON IT. I GOOGLED THE ISSUE AND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE FOR 2006-2007 CHEVY MALIBUS SO I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. I DO HAVE A RECALL THAT I HAVE NOT HAD FIXED YET FOR THE BRAKE LAMP MALFUNCTION 13036 WHICH DEALER STATED IS UNRELATED ISSUE. I SEE SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE ONLINE ARE REPORTING THIS SAME ISSUE FOR THE 2009 4 CYLINDER CHEVY MALIBU'S. I WOULD HOPE GM WILL RECALL THIS AND TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM.

THE BRAKE LIGHTS BEGAN TURNING ON BY THEMSELVES, AND WHEN I WOULD STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THEY WOULD SHUT OFF. THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED IN LATE 2014, BUT THEN THE ISSUE BEGAN AGAIN IN MAY, 2016. THE DEALERSHIP RAN THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS AND REPLACED THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR, WHICH I WAS CHARGED FOR, BUT THAT DIDN'T TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. NOW THEY DECIDED THAT THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE CONTROL MODULE, AGAIN, AT MY EXPENSE. THERE IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, WHICH IS A QUALITY CONTROL ISSUE AT GM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL COME ON ANYTIME, WHETHER IT'S IDLING IN MY DRIVEWAY OR BEING DRIVEN DOWN THE ROAD.

WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKE TO PULL OVER AND STOP, IT STARTS BUCKING LIKE IT DID GOING UP THE HILL. I GET THE CAR STOPPED, PUT IT IN PARK, TURN THE ENGINE ON, PUT IT IN REVERSE, BACK UP A LITTLE, PUT IT IN DRIVE, GO FORWARD A LITTLE, AND PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC AND CONTINUED ABOUT 100 MILES TO GET HOME. DROVE INTO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND A VERY EXPERIENCED HYBRID TECH SAID "NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE." HE RAN THE SCANNER AND NOTHING SHOWED UP. IT HAPPENS SO INFREQUENTLY THAT I DOUBT THE TECHNICIAN WILL EVER INCUR THE PROBLEM IF HE WERE TO RIVE THE CAR, THIS IS SERIOUS ... ONLY MY SKILLFUL HANDLING OF THE INCIDENT GOT ME OFF THE ROAD AND OUT OF THE WAY ALTHOUGH TRAFFIC WAS BLOWING BY ME. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO MY DEALERSHIP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND HAVE THE PAPERWORK THEY PROVIDE ME STATING THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE I HAVE AN INFANT CHILD AND I TRAVEL A VERY CONGESTED INTERSTATE WITH HIM IN THE CAR EVERY DAY. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE BREAK SWITCH FAILED WHEN THEY PERFORMED BRAKE POSITION CALIBRATION. THE GENTLEMEN SAID THAT THE SWITCH COULD BE BAD EVEN THOU IT WAS A NEW ONE THAT WAS PURCHASED FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED IT AGAIN AND RE-CALIBRATED AND AFTERWARDS SAID EVERYTHING WORKS WELL. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FIND MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WITH LIGHTS COMING ON IN THE CARE AT SPORADIC TIME TIMES AS WELL AS THE BRAKE LIGHT ISSUE. I CALLED GM, THEY TOOK THE INFO BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. I REALLY BELIEVE A RECALL OR SOME TYPE OF INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE DONE ON THIS. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM, BEGINNING NEARLY 2 YEARS AGO. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THE LAST DOCUMENTABLE INCIDENT IS MARCH 9, 2013. ESC SERVICE LIGHT COMES ON, CRUISE CONTROL SHUTS DOWN, BRAKES LIGHTS ILLUMINATING WHEN THEY SHOULD NOT, AND NOT ILLUMINATING WHEN THEY SHOULD. THERE'S ALWAYS BEEN SOME "THING" THEY FIND WRONG, FROM RE-CALIBRATION OF THE ESC SYSTEM TO THIS LAST INCIDENT, WHERE THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH! I HAD JUST HAD THE VEHICLE IN TO HAVE A HEADLIGHT REPLACED THE PRIOR WEEKEND AND I NEVER NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHTS NOT WORKING, AND THE DEALER THAT REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT NEVER MENTIONED IT EITHER. I'M THINKING THEY WOULD HAVE IF THEY COULD CHARGE ME TO FIX SOMETHING ADDITIONAL ON THE CAR. I JUST PAID $250 TO REPLACE WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS A BURNED OUT BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH ON MARCH 9TH, (PALMEN MOTORS, KENOSHA, WI), AND ITS ALREADY RECURRING. I HEARD PART OF POSSIBLE RECALL ON WNN ABC NEWS AND STARTED RESEARCHING AND ENDED UP AT YOUR SITE THIS MORNING. I WANT TO REPORT THIS. THERE'S NO TELLING HOW MANY DOLLARS HAVE BEEN PAID TO MECHANICS TO FIX UNNECESSARY REPAIRS BECAUSE OF THIS! I AM FURIOUS! BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE CALIPER LOCKED UP AND WOULD NOT RELEASE THE ROTOR. UNDER WARRANTY THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROTOR, CALIPER, FLEXIBLE HOSE AND PADS. THE CAR WOULD MOVE FORWARD BUT FELT LIKE THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. AFTER A SHORT DISTANCE THE ROTOR HEATED UP AND WAS SMOKING. THIS SAME THING OCCURRED AGAIN ON 9/24/2012. MILEAGE AT THAT TIME WAS 37900. DEALER CURRENTLY HAS THE CAR AND IS TRYING TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AND STOPPED ILLUMINATING WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT AFTER HAVING THE BRAKES, ROTORS, AND CALIBERS REPLACED AT THE DEALER, THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BECAUSE THE DEALER STATED THAT MOISTURE WAS PENETRATING THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 41,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL LIGHTS BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE CRUISE CONTROL FEATURE THEN FAILED. THE BRAKE INDICATOR ALSO FAILED, AS IT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BRAKING WHEN IT WAS NOT. THE INDICATOR ALSO DISPLAYED A MESSAGE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BRAKING WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
