I was driving down the highway when the passenger side curtain airbags deployed for no reason. Air bag deployment stunned the driver, but fortunately did not cause accident.

Connector for airbags sensor wiring has a problem which is address in General Motors document Recall 13040A Dated April 2014. There is a warning on the dash about the airbags not operational. We have never been contacted by General Motors about this problem, but other Chevrolet Malibu owners are have the same problem.

I was driving down the road after I bought the car and the steering suddenly went out the DIC said "service esc" and "service traction" and I could barely move the steering wheel I was lucky to be on a country road because if I was on the highway I could have lost complete control and caused an accident I took it to a mechanic and they said "the dielectric grease in the bcm connector wore out" when I googled it I saw there was a recall but when I contacted the dealer they said there was nothing they could do for me. this is very concerning as who knows how many malibus steering could randomly go out over such a stupid problem i could be available if you would like to inspect the car/systems

Air bag light randomly pop on . Electrical system is so bad that I only have 1 head light and it’s very dangerous driving at night like that .

First off the power steering goes out and can only be fixed by applying dielectric grease to the bcm but that will fix it. second the airbag light will randomly go on but this can also be remedy by fixing the yellow connection under the passenger seat try jiggling it if that doesnt fix it just cut the two wires off the connector's and splice with crimp connectors. hope this helps you as much as it did me :)

Was driving down highway at approximately 70 to 75 miles per hour when my drivers side window airbag and seat airbag deployed. It hit my face shoulder and arm. There was no collision and I was able to keep control of the vehicle for the most part. I swerved a little but regained control quickly. My seat belt is locked and is no longer usable

The airbag don’t work, I just payed 1200$ to replace the computer pc because the car wouldn’t start and that didn’t solve the problem the check engine light is always on, the car have electrical problems; if I run the Ac it blows hot and then the car go to engine power reduces within 4 minutes. If I drive the car it will go on engine power reduce after 6 minutes because the fan is not working due to the fact that that car has electrical problems and the fan is not getting enough power to warm the car up and the engine gets real hot and it go to making a loud rumbling noise and growling and I can only drive 10 mph and 40 mph the fastest but then the car go to shaking and wen I try to park the car it’s shaking Nd rumbling which can cause an accident

The passenger light beam will not come on it also messes with my radio it turns it to the aux I keep replacing the Bub in the harness and it's still not working not not to mention the car felt like a lost of power due to I guess the trance when turning a corner or pulling off. The air bag light comes on a few days and turn off.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT OCCASIONALLY TWO ATTEMPTS AT RESTARTING THE VEHICLE WERE NEEDED BEFORE THE STEERING WHEEL OPERATED AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE A FAILURE CODE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER SHOP THAT DID IT FOR $190. THESE WERE 2 SEPARATE PROBLEMS, ONE WAS THE AIRBAG LIGHT (A CONNECTION UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT), AND THE OTHER WAS A SENSOR IN THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL (THE STABILITY/ABS LIGHT).

THERE IS CURRENTLY A BULLETIN PUBLISHED REFERENCING THIS PROBLEM (15356) IN WHICH IT APPEARS TO ONLY WARRANT A REPAIR AT MANUFACTURER COST IF 150,000 MILES/TEN YEARS. FROM READING ONLINE FORUMS, I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE TO "JUST" MISS THE FAILURE AND MANUFACTURER REIMBURSEMENT. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED NO MATTER THE MILEAGE.

I WAS INVOLVED IN A HIT AND RUN BACK IN MARCH 2017 THE PERSON BACKED INTO THE PASS-SIDE OF MY CAR AS I WAS DRIVING 35 MPH DOWN THE MAIN ROAD , THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY FROM IMPACT , THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS IS NOT A TAKATA ISSUE AS THEY WERE REPLACED BY THE CURRENT RECALL AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHY THEY DIDN'T DEPLOY . THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE IS THE ONSTAR RESPONSE SYSTEM DIDN'T DETECT THE CRASH AND CALL FOR HELP- I HAD TO PUSH THE BUTTON TO GET HELP . THE CAR CAN NOT GET DIRECTIONS SENT TO IT FROM ONSTAR AND THE ELECTRICAL KEEPS FAILING/LOOSING POWER AND I WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE BATTER AND ALTERNATOR BUT IT STILL DOES IT AND THE WIRES R FINE . DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO REPLACE THE COMPUTER CONTROL SYSTEM BUT SEEMS THEIR GUESSING AND I DON'T HAVE $1,200 AROUND TO DO IT . THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAG SHOULD OF DEPLOYED AND THE ONSTAR SENSOR SHOULD OF DETECTED IT AND CALLED FOR HELP.

THE "SERVICE AIRBAG SOON" MESSAGE KEEPS COMING ON. I HAD A DIAGNOSTIC DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP. THEY INDICATED THAT THE AIRBAG MODULE IS FAULTY. THE CAR IS ONLY 7YRS OLD AND HAS LESS THAN 40,000 MILES ON IT, THIS SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE. SERVICE AIR BAGS LIGHT REMAINS LIT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY REGARDING A CONSTANT WARNING LIGHT INDICATING A MALFUNCTION OF THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG MODULE AND WIRING HARNESS. AT THAT TIME, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT AIR BAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT THAT REQUIRED AIRBAGS.REPAIRS WOULD COST OVER $1100. NOTHING WAS DONE TO THE VEHICLE TO CAUSE THIS MALFUNCTION.

THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE." I CONTACTED THE DEALER AT MESSER CHEVY IN LUBBOCK, TX, AND ALSO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT CHEVY. I OPENED UP CASE #8-2314213550 ON 8/19/16, AND I WAS TOLD TO GET A DIAGNOSTICS DONE AT THE DEALER, WHICH I DID. I THEN FOUND OUT THE CASE HAD BEEN ARBITRARILY CLOSED THE SAME DAY IT WAS OPENED! NOW CHEVROLET STATES THAT THE CASE WAS REOPENED ON 9/7/16. I JUST WANT THE PROBLEM FIXED FREE OF CHARGE SINCE THE PREVIOUS OWNER SHOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THIS WHEN CHEVY WAS OFFERING THE "SOFT RECALL" REPAIR AT NO CHARGE. AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES WHEN PRESSING HARD ON BRAKE PAD AND WHEN MAKING TURNS. WARNING LIGHT IN DASH STAYS ON THE WARNING LIGHT MAY GO OFF BRIEFLY WHEN DRIVING AND IT IS REQUIRED TO BRAKE HARD, BUT ILLUMINATES AGAIN WHEN BRAKE IS PRESSED. SOMETIMES, IT COMES ON DURING NORMAL DRIVING WITHOUT BRAKING. SOMETIMES IT COMES ON WHEN THE CAR IS DRIVEN OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THIS MALFUNCTION MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DETERMINE IF AIR BAGS ARE ACTUALLY ENGAGED AND WILL OPERATE DURING A CRASH. THE PROBLEM ONLY INCREASED AFTER BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) RECALL WAS FIXED ON THE VEHICLE. IT OCCURS EVERY 1-2 DAYS SINCE THE BCM WAS REPAIRED. LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY A PROBLEM AND HAS NOT BEEN WILLING TO CONTACT GM FOR INFORMATION. EXTREMELY CONCERNED FOR PASSENGER SAFETY.

I HAVE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CAR THAT I BELIEVE TO BE MANUFACTURER DEFECTS. THE MOST SERIOUS ISSUE I FOUND TODAY (4/19/2014) WHEN I SMELLED GAS OUTSIDE OF MY CAR. UPON LOOKING UNDERNEATH MY CAR I FOUND MY GAS TANK LEAKING ONTO MY EXHAUST PIPE. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A RECALL ISSUE BECAUSE THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO DAMAGE TO THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF MY CAR. ONE OF THE OTHER SERIOUS ISSUES I HAVE FOUND WITH MY CAR INCLUDE A BRAKE LIGHT ISSUE. MY CAR WAS OCCASIONALLY SHOWING A "SERVICE TRACTION/ ESC" ERROR CODE, WHICH COULD NOT BE EXPLAINED BY ANY MECHANIC OR EVEN A CHEVY DEALERSHIP THEMSELVES. IT WASN'T UNTIL A FRIEND FOLLOWING ME POINTED OUT THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS DIDN'T SEEM TO BE WORKING RIGHT, DID I REALIZE I WAS HAVING AN ISSUE. THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT THEY SHOULD, BUT ONLY ON THE OCCASIONS SAID ERROR CODE IS SHOWING. I LOOKED INTO THE ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. THE AIR BAG SERVICE MESSAGE APPEARED IN THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER AND THE AIR BAG SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. IT WENT BACK OFF BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO THE DEALER. NEVERTHELESS I TOOK IT IN TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUGGESTED I KEEP DRIVING IT TO SEE IF THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND STAY ON SO THAT THEY COULD GET A CODE TO DIAGNOSE. I ASKED ABOUT THE PREVIOUS RECALL TO SEE IF THE MANUFACTURER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR ANY DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIRS SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THEY DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS HAS BEEN A HISTORICAL PROBLEM FOR THIS MODEL AND THAT THERE ARE STILL ISSUES WITH THE AIR BAGS ON THIS MODEL. DRIVER SIDE DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED WITH MANUALLY FROM INSIDE, OR WITH THE KEY OR AUTO OPENER. DRIVER HAD TO EXIT OVER THE COUNSEL AND OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE. WHEN I TURNED IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE ACTUATOR MALFUNCTION AND THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE IT. THEY DIDN'T SEEM TOO CONCERNED THAT THIS WAS A NEW ISSUE AND WHAT I BELIEVE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, IN ADDITION I HAVE HAD TO TAKE THIS VEHICLE SIX TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF THE "SERVICE AIR BAG" INDICATOR LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAD A RECALL BUT WAS NOT FIXED YET.

I WANT TO FILE A COMPLIANT AND MAKE YOU AWARE THAT THE 2010 CHEVY MALIBU'S HAVE AN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT ISSUE. MY AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN A HIT A DEER HEAD-ON AT 50 MPH'S BECAUSE THE AIRBAG WIRE WAS SEVERED BY THE CRACKED PLASTIC AIR INTAKE COVER ON THE ENGINE DURING THE ACCIDENT. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE, THERE WAS A LOUD ROAR COMING FROM THE VEHICLE AND WHEN ACTIVATING THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT, THE CONTACT OBSERVED ANTI-FREEZE EXPELLING FROM THE INTERIOR VENTS. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 700 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,600.
