The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact had been informed by other drivers that the brake lights failed to illuminate as intended while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that the brake lights randomly illuminated while driving. The traction control warning light was illuminated intermittently, causing the cruise control to become inoperable. The contact stated that as an independent mechanic, he had replaced the brake sensors twice; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V252000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting, Vehicle Speed Control, Electronic Stability Control (ESC); however, the failure persisted. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure might be related to the brake sensors. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN WITH THE SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, SHE WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THE CONTACT STATED SHE WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE GEAR AFTER 2 HOURS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO UNKNOWN LOCAL DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE CONTROL MODULE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WE HAVE REPLACED THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) TORQUE SENSOR TWICE, WITH DIFFERING BRANDS (AC DELCO, AND CAN'T REMEMBER THE OTHER). SINCE IT'S AN ISSUE WITH THE EPS, THE TRACTION CONTROL IS OUT/DISABLED AS WELL. THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT COULD BE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, CONSIDERING IT'S A FULL SIZE SEDAN AND THE OPERATOR IS 115LBS WITH HER CHILDREN IN THE CAR. IT'S EXCEPTIONALLY DIFFICULT TO STEER AT SLOWER SPEEDS, AND ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE PARKED. THE DEALERSHIP SHE BOUGHT IT FROM, NOR THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP WILL TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY, AND SHE CAN'T AFFORD TO SINK EVEN MORE MONEY INTO THE CAR. THIS IS RATHER OUTRAGEOUS CONSIDERING THE CAR IS NORMALLY MAINTAINED AND THE DEALERSHIP SHE BOUGHT IT FROM WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AS SHE HAD BROUGHT IT TO THEIR SERVICE CENTER (DUE TO PURCHASED WARRANTY AT THE TIME) WHERE WHATEVER-THEY-DID RESET THE LIGHT, BUT THE ISSUE RECURRED LATER ON. DATE GIVEN IS APPROXIMATELY THE MONTH ISSUES BEGAN TO GET SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE. THE ISSUE STARTED QUITE SOME TIME AGO. IN 2012, WE WERE DRIVING ALONG AND ATTEMPTED TO BACK INTO A PARKING SPOT, WHEN THE CAR REFUSED TO REVERSE. IT STARTED GOING SLOWER THAN THE USUAL SPEED LIMIT, SO I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I PULLED OUT TO HEAD HOME, BUT THE CAR DIDN'T GET MUCH SPEED, NOR WOULD IT REVERSE AT ALL. I HAD IT TOWED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS BURNED OUT. I'D ONLY HAD THE CAR LESS THAN 30,000 MILES. CHEVROLET REPAIRED OR REBUILT THE TRANSMISSION. A YEAR LATER, I WAS PULLED OVER DUE TO THE TAIL LIGHTS NOT WORKING. 2016 THE CAR WOULDN'T PICK UP SPEED AGAIN. I HAD IT TOWED AND THE TRANSMISSION HAD BURNED OUT AGAIN. WE GOT IT REBUILT A SECOND TIME AND NOW THE LIGHTS, WIPERS, DOOR LOCKS, AND WINDOWS AREN'T WORKING AGAIN EITHER. OBVIOUSLY THERE'S A MANUFACTURER ISSUE THAT NEEDS REVIEWING ON THIS YEAR MALIBU. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, IN A CURVE, THE POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING, THE WHEELS TURNED STRAIGHT AND I HAD TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING THE BARRIER WALL. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT, THE POWER STEERING BEGAN WORKING AGAIN. THE POWER STEERING NOW QUITS WORKING AFTER A MILE OF DRIVING, ONLY TO START WORKING AGAIN AFTER A RESTART OF THE ENGINE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR AROUND 20,000 MILES.

I ALMOST WENT OVER THE EMBANKMENT BEFORE BEING ABLE TO FORCEFULLY TURN THE WHEEL AND CONTINUED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL AND OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS CLOSE TO HOME SO I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME. I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK DRIVER. WHEN HE ARRIVED THE POWER STEERING WAS FINE NO POWER STEERING MESSAGES. HE WAS AWARE OF PREVIOUS RECALLS BUT THIS VEHICLE HAS NO ACTIVE RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE EXACT PROBLEM COVERED BY SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL.

I'VE TAKEN THE CAR IN TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED. THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE SENSOR AND THAT WORKED FOR A WEEK THEN THE ESC LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED ON.

FROM THAT MOMENT ON, WHILE I'M DRIVING AND NOT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ALL ILLUMINATED. WHEN I LIGHTLY PRESS ON THE BRAKE, THE LIGHTS GO OFF, UNLESS I CONTINUE TO PRESS HARDER ON THE PEDAL, AND THEN THEY'LL COME ON AGAIN. THIS IS SUCH A HAZARD WHILE I'M DRIVING THAT I DON'T EVEN WANT TO GO ANYWHERE. WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING? IF THIS WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED WITH THE RECALL, IT ABSOLUTELY WASN'T. I'VE SEEN OTHER PEOPLE REPORT THE SAME ISSUE ON THE ONLINE FORUMS, SO I KNOW I'M NOT ALONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED NOW! CAR HAS SINCE HAD LOSE OF POWER, SLUGGISH, DIES PERIODICALLY, AND NOW ALMOST 3 YEARS AFTER THOUSAND DOLLAR REPAIR NOT TO MENTION THE AIR BAG LIGHT THAT IS ON THAT THEY ARE TELLING ME WILL COST AT LEAST 1000 DOLLARS AS WELL TO REPAIR AS MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT IT IS A SAFTEY CONCERN. MY CAR DIED AGAIN WHILE COMING THROUGH A INTERSECTION AND THE P0341 HAS COME UP AND BEEN REPLACE3D FOUR TIMES SINCE FEBRUARY 2019. THE ESC/TCS INDICATOR CAME ON IN THE PARKING LOT AND STAYED ON. ERROR MSGS DISPLAYED WERE POWER STEERING, SERVICE ESC, SERVICE AIR BAG. I HEARD NO CHIMES. WE GAVE MY DAUGHTER THIS USED CAR IN 2015. SHE HAD COMPLAINED A COUPLE OF WEEKS PRIOR THAT STEERING SOMETIMES BECAME DIFFICULT. A SEARCH BY VIN SHOWS NO INCOMPLETE RECALLS. IT WOULD BE EXTREMELY USEFUL TO KNOW IF THIS CAR WAS PART OF A RECALL(S) AND THEN REPAIRED. INITIALLY DEALER CLAIMED SERVICING WOULD BE COVERED DUE TO TSB AND EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR ISSUE; HOWEVER, AFTER DIAGNOSIS DEALER DENIED ANY SPECIAL COVERAGES EXISTED FOR THIS ISSUE. APPARANTLY A $600 FIX, DENIED SERVICE AND REPLACED OURSELVES FOR $185 PART.

THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE AS THE CAR HAS ONLY 13,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF. THEY WERE UNCERTAIN OF REASONING FOR LOSS OF POWER STEERING BUT HAVE HAD SEVERAL SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT YEAR OF MALIBU.

THIS BRINGS NUMBER OF MODULES NEEDING REPLACEMENT TO 4 ON THIS VEHICLE. EIGHT DAYS LATER, ALL THE SAME LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN PLUS BRAKE FLUID LIGHT. CALLED DEALER AND TOLD TO BRING CAR IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC. I ASKED ABOUT SAFETY AND WAS TOLD TO CHECK BRAKE FLUID. I SAID I DON'T KNOW HOW. SO, I WENT TO CAR AND BRAKE WAS HARDER BUT WORKING. DROVE TO DEALER. WHEN I ARRIVED, THERE IS NO BRAKE FLUID LEFT. LUCKY I MADE IT TO THE DEALER. WAS TOLD EITHER PART NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY OR DEFECTIVE PART. GIVEN THE SUDDEN DECELERATION THAT THIS CAUSES, AND THE ONLY RESOLUTION IS TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT, I FEEL THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE DEATH TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE CAR. THE MOST COMMON TIME THAT THIS HAPPENS IS WHEN THE DRIVER IS CHANGING LANES AND THEY GO OVER A RAISED LANE MARKER - ONE OF THOSE LITTLE DOTS SEPARATING LANES IN THE SOUTHERN STATES. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE WHEEL WOULD MOVE AGAIN. A LIGHT CAME ON AND SAID POWER STEERING EPS NEEDS ATTENTION. IT KEPT HAPPENING AGAIN AND AGAIN AND IT WAS SCARY BECAUSE THERE WAS TRAFFIC. I HAD TO DRIVE IT LIKE THAT BACK HOME BECAUSE IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ESPECIALLY TRYING TO TURN THE WHEEL IN CORNERS. THAT CAN CAUSE A CRASH. ALSO, I'VE ALWAYS HAD ISSUES WITH THE SENSORS ON THE CAR. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE FUSES OFTEN, DIFFERENT SENSOR LIGHTS COME ON IT KEEPS SAYING (ABS) AND THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE TO BE REPLACED OFTEN BECAUSE OF AN ELECTRIC SHORT.

THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A THIRD INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A POSSIBLE RACK AND PINION MALFUNCTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT OF A RECALL AND WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A GENERAL MOTOR DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER RECALL BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN "REPAIRED", AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE "REPAIR" OUT OF POCKET. AFTER SOME NEGOTIATION THEY AGREED TO PERFORM THE SAME "REPAIR" FOR FREE. IN 2016 THE ESC ERROR STARTED AGAIN. THIS TIME I TOOK IT TO BILL ESTES CHEVROLET IN INDIANAPOLIS, IN. THEY DIDN'T LISTEN TO MY COMPLAINT OR ISSUE WITH THE RECALL BECAUSE MY VIN SHOWS NO CURRENT RECALL FOR THE ESC ISSUE. THEY CONVINCED ME THAT IT WAS A SENSOR ISSUE AND "REPAIRED" THE VEHICLE TO THE TUNE OF $500+. WITHIN THE WEEK THE VEHICLE AGAIN HAD THE ESC ERROR, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, LOSS OF ENGINE POWER, AND ENGINE BUCKING. RETURNED THE CAR TO BILL ESTES CHEVROLET AND AGAIN MY DISCUSSION ABOUT THE ESC ERROR RECALL WAS OVERLOOKED. I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE HAD A CRACKED MANIFOLD AND DAMAGED O2 SENSOR. THEY "REPAIRED" THE VEHICLE TO THE TUNE OF $800. FOR THE NEXT WEEK, EVERYDAY AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE ABOUT 6 MILES THE ESC ERROR WOULD OCCUR. CURRENTLY WE ARE CALLING FOR AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THIS "REPAIRED" AT BILL ESTES CHEVROLET. AFTER MUCH INTERNET RESEARCH, I AM GOING TO SPECIFICALLY ASK THAT THEY PERFORM AGAIN THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THE RECALL. I THINK THAT THIS A RECURRING PROBLEM THAT MAY NEED TO "REPAIRED" OFTEN UNTIL GM/ CHEVROLET COMES UP WITH A PERMANENT SOLUTION. FOR NOW MY WIFE DRIVES THE VEHICLE TO WORK MORE THAN 20 MILES A DAY. THIS STARTED HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY TO THE POINT WHERE I CAN'T COMPLETE A TRIP WITHOUT THE POWER STEERING DROPPING OUT. RESEARCH SHOWS GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND MY VEHICLE WILL BE FIXED UNDER GM SPECIAL COVERAGE 15356, SINCE I AM UNDER 150,000 MILES. HOWEVER, I FEEL THIS IS HAPPENING TO ENOUGH TO WARRANT A GENERAL RECALL.

GM ALSO SENT OUT A LETTER TO ME STATING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE POSISTION SENSOR THAT MAY CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN. THE DEALER DID NOT ATTEMPT TO DIAGNOS THE PROBLEM WITH THE SENSOR AND STATED THAT THE ENGINE HAD A BAD #2 CYCLINDER WITH COMPRESSION AT 100LBS. THE P0300 CODE CAN BE CAUSED BY THE VARIOUS ELECTRONIC MESSAGES THAT HAVE APPEARED AND THE ENGINE IS NOT THE PROBLEM. THEY WANTED TO TEAR IT DOWN AT A COST OF $2300 TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT DOES NOT EXIST. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 39000 MILES ON IT. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS SAME ISSSUE WITH NHTSA AND GM HAS NOT DEALT WITH THE PROBLEM. ANOTHER ISSUE RELATING TO THIS IS THE FACT THAT THE ENGINE REDUCED POWER MESSAGE COMES ON IN SOME VEHILCLE AND THE CAR SLOWS DOWN AND IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE ON THE HIGWAYS. LIGHTS WILL NOT GO OFF UNLESS NEGATIVE BATTERY POST IS REMOVED AND THEN RECONNECTED.THEN PROBLEM RETURNS WHEN CAR IS DRIVEN AGAIN. I SEARCHED MY VIN NUMBER AND THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY VIN BUT MY CAR HAS THE SAME ISSUES AS 100S OF OTHER 2010 CHEVY MALIBUS. I REALLY DONT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. HOWEVER, AFTER BEING HOME 1 WEEK, I NOTICED THE SURGING AGAIN AND TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE CAM SHAFT SENSORS WERE REPLACED AGAIN. UPON LEAVING THE MECHANIC'S SHOP I KNEW IT STILL WASN'T FIXED BECAUSE I COULD STILL FEEL IT SURGING. A WEEK LATER I TOOK IT TO A CHEVY DEALER WHO TOLD ME I NEEDED THE TIMING CHAIN REPLACED AND A NEW SET OF CAM SHAFT ACTUATORS WERE PUT ON THIS TIME. UPON READING ONLINE IT LOOKS LIKE THIS WAS AN ISSUE IN MALIBU'S 2004-2009 (WHICH WAS RECALLED), AND I BELIEVE THEY NEVER FIXED THE ISSUE AND NOW 2010'S MAY BE AFFECTED. I WAS DRIVING ON SR-512 NEAR PUYALLUP, WASHINGTON. I WAS JUST MOVING TO THE RIGHT AT THE BASE OF THE FREEWAY ON-RAMP, WHEN MY ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT. AT NEARLY THE SAME TIME, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL ACTIVATED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. EACH OF MY WHEELS BEGAN BRAKING INDEPENDENT FROM ONE ANOTHER. THIS LATEST FOR APPROXIMATELY 10-SECONDS AND DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. THE POWER STEERING ALSO RETURNED TO NORMAL FOR A BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME. LATER THAT SAME MORNING, I WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND WAS WAITING TO TURN RIGHT. WHEN TRAFFIC CLEARED ENOUGH FOR ME TO BEGIN MY TURN I TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. ALMOST AT THE SAME MOMENT THE STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN, AND I HAD TO FIGHT TO COMPLETE THE TURN. HAD I BEEN AN ELDERLY PERSON, WITHOUT SUFFICIENT STRENGTH TO FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN, I WOULD HAVE CERTAINLY CRASHED INTO THE CARS WAITING TO TURN LEFT AT THE INTERSECTION IN QUESTION. THE STEERING PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED EVER SINCE AND GOTTEN MUCH WORSE OVER TIME. I'VE NOTICED IF I STOP THE CAR...TURN OFF THE IGNITION...AND RESTART THE CAR THE ELECTRONIC STEERING RESETS AND WILL BE FINE FOR UP TO 10-15 MINUTES. BUT THE PROBLEM ALWAYS RETURNS. I LOOKED ONLINE AND SAW THAT MALIBUS FROM 2004-2009 EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM AND WERE RECALLED. I WENT TO MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND ASKED IF THEY WOULD EXTEND THE RECALL PROTECTION TO COVER MY 2010 MALIBU AND I WAS ADVISED THEY WOULD NOT. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY PROBLEM, AND WHILE I CAN'T AFFORD THE $2,000 REPAIRS TO GET IT FIXED, I CAN'T IMAGINE TRYING TO DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE WHEN WINTER ARRIVES AND THE ROADS TURN ICY. THIS PROBLEM WOULD MOST CERTAINLY CAUSE AND ACCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING SUDDENLY THE CAR JERKED (LIKE A TRANSMISSION ERROR) AND THEN THE MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY WOULD SHOW "SERVICE ESC" AND "TRACTION OFF". I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FIRST TO RUN AN ELECTRICAL TEST, WHERE THEY REPROGRAMMED A SENSOR (COST=$158.95). A FEW DAYS LATER THE VERY SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AND AT THIS TIME WHEN I CAME TO A STOP SIGN I WENT TO ACCELERATE AND MY CAR HAD SHUT ITSELF OFF. I THEN BROUGHT IT IN WHERE THE FOUND CODES REGARDING THE MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR PROBLEMS. THE SERVICE PLACE THEN MONITORED BOTH THE COMPUTER DATA FOR THE MAP SENSOR AND THE ACTUAL SENSOR DATA DURING TEST DRIVE AND FOUND THAT WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS THE COMPUTER DATA DROPS OUT BUT THE SENSOR DATA REMAINS THE SAME, THEY SUGGESTED THAT IT COULD BE A POSSIBLE WIRING PROBLEM, AND I AGREED TO HAVE THEM REPLACE THE SENSOR.(COST+$275.15). NOTHING HAPPENED UNTIL A FEW WEEKS LATER AND THE VERY SAME ISSUE OCCURRED. MY HUSBAND PLAYED AROUND WITH SOME WIRES AND HAD NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBLE WAY THAT CONDENSATE COULD GET INTO WHERE THE SENSORS WERE AND SO HE FIXED THAT ISSUE. I FEEL THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS IF SOMEONE IS FOLLOWING BEHIND YOU AND THINKS THAT YOU HAVE LET OFF THE BRAKES BUT YOU ARE ACTUALLY SLOWING DOWN. I DON'T THINK THAT THEY HAVE AN APPARENT FIX FOR THIS ISSUE AS I SEE SEVERAL REPORTS FROM VEHICLES RANGING FROM 2008 TO 2012 ONLINE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. IT IS INTERMITTENT. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT IT IN KANNAPOLIS, NC CALLED CLASSIC CHEVROLET ON 5/3/14. THEY SAID I COULD PAY 98.00 TO GET IT HOOKED UP TO THE COMPUTER READER, BUT THE LIGHT WAS OFF SO I DECIDED I DIDN'T REALLY HAVE 98.00 TO WASTE. AS IT HAD BEEN HOOKED UP TO A CODE READER WHEN THE LIGHT WAS OFF BEFORE AND DIDN'T READ ANYTHING. THERE IS AN OPTION TO TURN OFF THE TRACTION CONTROL SO I WAS DRIVING WITH IT OFF. WE WENT TO MICHIGAN ON 5/8/14 IT WAS DRIVING FINE. LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. WHEN WE WERE IN MICHIGAN IT STARTED GOING ON AGAIN, AGAIN DRIVING WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL OFF. IT WAS HOOKED UP TO A COMPUTER AND NO CODES CAME UP AND LIGHT GOES OFF WHEN YOU TURN IT OFF AND NEVER CAME BACK ON OUR WHOLE WAY HOME. NOTHING FELT OR SOUNDED DIFFERENT WITH THE DRIVING. DRIVING FINE TO DROP OFF OUR SON AT PRACTICE THIS MORNING 5/17/14, TURNED ON CAR TO GO PICK HIM UP AND COULDN'T REVERSE, BUT WOULD GO FORWARD. I HAD MY HUSBAND AND HIS BROTHER PUSH US OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND IT WAS DRIVING FINE FOR THE FIRST 3 BLOCKS, THEN STARTED TO CHUG AND WOULDN'T SHIFT CORRECTLY LEAVING A STOP LIGHT. I TURNED AROUND ON A CIRCLE DRIVE. WE LIVE ON A CULDESAC SO I PULLED AHEAD OF OUR HOUSE, SO WE COULD PUSH IT BACK IN THE DRIVE WAY. WHEN MY HUSBAND CAME BACK OUT IT WAS LIKE LOCKED, WE COULDN'T PUSH IT IN REVERSE. THEN IT WOULDN'T GO FORWARD. MY HUSBAND UNHOOKED THE BATTERY AND WAS ABLE TO REVERSE WITH STRUGGLE AND PULL INTO THE DRIVEWAY WITH STRUGGLE. DURING ALL OF THIS, THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN ILLUMINATING WHEN NOT BEING PUSHED AND SOMETIME THEY DON'T EVEN WORK. *JS

BEING A LICENSED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER IT IS MY OPINION THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL ENGINEERING DESIGN DEFICIENCIES THAT ARE NOT ADDRESSED BY THE REPAIR PROCEDURES LISTED WITHIN THE SERVICE MANUAL. I RECOMMEND THAT THESE CARS BE RECALLED AS A CAR WITH NO KNOWN PROBLEM CAN DEVELOP THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT WARNING PLACING THE DRIVER IN HARMS WAY. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC HAD HIM PUT IN A GM INJECTOR AND STILL WAS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE, THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE ENGINE WIRE HARNESS, COILS, SHIFT SOLENOID, AND NONE OF THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM. HE THEN STATED THAT THE BASE OF THE ISSUE WAS THE COMPUTER, I TOOK IT TO GET A SECOND OPINION AND THE NEXT MECHANIC STATED THE SAME THING,AFTER TALKING TO ANOTHER MECHANIC FROM SUPERIOR CHEVROLET, ITS THE COMPUTER. I TOOK IT TO SUPERIOR CHEVROLET AND HAD ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC DONE ( WHICH WAS ANOTHER $100) AND ASKED THEM TO PLEASE LOOK AT THE COMPUTER SINCE I WAS TOLD TWICE IT WAS THE ISSUE. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE INJECTOR HARNESS AND IT WOULD COST $320. (IT HAD BEEN RAINING). 2ND INCIDENT ON JUNE 26, 2013, GOING DOWN HIGHWAY AND SERVICE TRACTION LIGHT WITH SEC LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR WAS POWERING DOWN AND STEERING WAS DIFFICULT. CALLED LANDMARK SERVICE CENTER IN TAYLORVILLE, ILLINOIS THEY TOLD ME TO TURN THE CAR OFF, THEN RESTART (OF COURSE LIGHTS WENT OUT) AND DRIVE IT TO THE NEAREST GM GARAGE. (I WAS OUT OF TOWN AT THE TIME). WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE LOCATION THEY PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND OF COURSE NOTHING SHOWED UP BECAUSE THE LIGHTS WERE NOT ON. ON WEDNESDAY I TOOK MAY CAR TO LANDMARK IN TAYLORVILLE TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AND TO SEE IF THEY COULD CHECK ON THE PROBLEM. AND TRUE TO FORM THE COMPUTER SHOWED NOTHING BECAUSE THE LIGHTS WERE NO ON. BUT WAS TOLD IF THIS HAPPENED AGAIN TO GO TO THE NEAREST SERVICE CENTER AND DON'T TURN THE CAR OFF. I'VE HAD THIS EXPERIENCE AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IN TRAFFIC. AND AM SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR OUT OF TOWN. I LIKE MY CAR AND WANT TO KEEP IT BUT IF THE PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED SOMEONE MAY GET HURT. THEY'VE REPLACED 3 PARTS ON MY CAR AND TODAY THE SAME LIGHTS SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL AND SERVICE ESC HAVE COME ON ONCE AGAIN. IT VARIES (SPEED DOESN'T MATTER) WHETHER OR NOT GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY OR STOPPING IN A DRIVEWAY WHEN IT COMES ON BUT WARNING LIGHTS WILL COME ON WHEN YOU TOUCH THE BRAKES. I ALSO OBSERVED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD (WHEN ITS DARK OUTSIDE) BUT WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF. I FEEL THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS IF SOMEONE IS FOLLOWING BEHIND YOU AND THINKS THAT YOU HAVE LET OFF THE BRAKES BUT YOU ARE ACTUALLY SLOWING DOWN. I DON'T THINK THAT THEY HAVE AN APPARENT FIX FOR THIS ISSUE AS I SEE SEVERAL REPORTS FROM VEHICLES RANGING FROM 2008 TO 2012 ONLINE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. I AM TO TAKE MY CAR BACK AGAIN FOR SERVICE NEXT WEEK TO HOPEFULLY GET IT REPAIRED BUT I AM NOT SO SURE THEY ARE GOING TO FIND THE PROBLEM AFTER ALREADY HAVING IT IN THERE SO MANY TIMES FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THERE ARE THREE ISSUES THAT APPEAR TO BE RELATED: 1) BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT BEING DEPRESSED, AND STAYS ON, AND/OR DOES NOT COME ON WHEN BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. 2)"SERVICE TRACTION" AND "SERVICE ESC" WARNINGS COME ON AND REMAIN ON. 3) CRUISE CONTROL STOPS WORKING. YOU CAN HAVE ONE, TWO OR ALL THREE OF THESE EVENTS HAPPENING AT THE SAME TIME. ANY OF THE THREE CAN OCCUR FIRST. THEY CAN OCCUR EACH TIME THE CAR IS DRIVEN FOR SOME WEEKS, THEN NOT OCCUR AT ALL FOR A FEW DAYS OR OCCASIONALLY EVEN WEEKS. CAN OCCUR AFTER DRIVING FOR A FEW MINUTES, SOMETIMES AFTER AN HOUR OR MORE OF DRIVING. SEEMS TO HAPPEN IN ALL KINDS OF WEATHER CONDITIONS, HOT, COLD, WET OR DRY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE ECS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY DECELERATED TO 20 MPH. THE VEHICLE ALSO FAILED TO RESPOND TO THE CONTACT'S ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY HAD RECEIVED ADDITIONAL COMPLAINTS FOR THE FAILURE, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO ISSUE A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN MARCH 2010 AND BEGAN HAVING BATTERY PROBLEMS JUNE 2011 AT ABOUT 28,000 MILES. THE BATTERY WOULD GO DEAD RANDOMLY FROM 2 HOURS AFTER PARKING TO BEING PARKED FOR 3 DAYS. AFTER HAVING THE BATTERY TESTED SEVERAL TIMES AT 31,000 THE ESC LIGHT BEGAN COMING ON AND THE ESC CODE WAS CLEARED. AT ABOUT 32,000 THE BATTERY OVER HEATED AND BEGAN STEAMING ACID OUT OF THE BATTERY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY AND REPLACED THE YAW SENSOR AND WIRING. THE ESC LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ONE WHICH TURNS OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL AND APPLIES THE BRAKES. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED YAW SENSOR SEVERAL TIMES, WHEEL SENSORS, CLOCK SPRING IN STEERING WHEEL, ABS BRAKE SYSTEM, INSTALLED A NEW COMPUTER AND REPLACED WIRING. THEY HAVE ALSO HAD GM ENGINEERS COMING FROM OUT OF STATE ON SEVERAL DAYS TO WORK ON THE VEHICLE DURING THE 9 PLUS SERVICE VISITS FOR A TOTAL OF OVER 70 DAYS OF REPAIR. THE ESC LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON AT RANDOM. DEALER ADVISED THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPAIR VEHICLE. I HAVE TRIED TO WORK WITH THE DEALER FOR A GM BUY BACK, BUT THE DEALER IS ONLY OFFERING AVERAGE TRADE VALUE, WHAT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A FAIR RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. *TR

I PURCHASED THE 2010 MALIBU, USED FROM THE DEALERSHIP- THEY WERE THE OWNERS PREVIOUSLY. I PURCHASED IT IN OCT. 2011 AND HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 8 TIMES IN THE 9 MONTHS OF OWNING IT. ONE TIME THE ENTIRE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR HAD 1+ INCHES OF STANDING WATER IN IT, AFTER A RAIN. THE ESC LIGHT CONTINUED TO COME ON AND OFF- THEY COULDN'T LOCATE ANY ISSUE- THE FIRST 2 TIMES I TOOK IT IN FOR THAT. THE OIL LIFE SENSOR NEVER WENT OFF FOR SERVICE- I WAS AT 10,000 MILES SINCE THE LAST OIL CHANGE. I TOOK IT TO MY REAL MECHANIC TO HAVE FIXED. THE BATTERY WENT TOTALLY DEAD IN IT ONE DAY- THEY SAID IT HAD BAD CELLS IN IT. AND IT WOULD ALSO STALL, AND WHEN GOING ABOUT 40 MPH NOT ACCELERATE, ON INCLINES. THAT'S WHEN THE ESC LIGHT WOULD KICK ON, SOMETIMES, AND THE RPM'S WOULD GO UP AND DOWN, ALL OVER THE PLACE. FINALLY MADE THE DEALERSHIP KEEP IT UNTIL THEY FIGURED OUT SOMETHING- THEY KEPT IT A FEW DAYS, AND CALLED ME NUMEROUS TIMES ASKING ME UNRELATED QUESTIONS- THEY THOUGHT I WAS NUTS, BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE ISSUE. FINALLY- THEY TOLD ME A WIRE IN THE FUEL INJECTION HAD COME LOOSE. MY CAR WAS SO CALLED 'CERTIFIED' BY THE DEALERSHIP- BUT I DON'T THINK THEY DID ANY OF THE TESTS, OR ELSE THEY WOULD HAVE FOUND SOME OF THESE THINGS THEMSELVES. *TR
