The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that under previous vehicle ownership, the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V252000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting, Vehicle Speed Control, Electronic Stability Control (ESC); however, the recall repair failed to prevent a failure. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the rear brake light failed to illuminate as intended; however, when the brake pedal was released, the brake lights would illuminate. No warning lights were illuminated. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 270,000.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact had been informed by other drivers that the brake lights failed to illuminate as intended while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that the brake lights randomly illuminated while driving. The traction control warning light was illuminated intermittently, causing the cruise control to become inoperable. The contact stated that as an independent mechanic, he had replaced the brake sensors twice; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V252000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting, Vehicle Speed Control, Electronic Stability Control (ESC); however, the failure persisted. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure might be related to the brake sensors. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

This is in reference to GM Recall Number: 13036 - I noticed that from time to time the service traction warning comes on, service esc warning comes on, my cruise control stops working suddenly. I didn't think anything of it until I finally noticed my brake lights were illuminated in my back window without my foot being on the brake pedal. I replaced the sensor on the brake pedal hoping that would fix it and it did not. I looked up my VIN for active recalls and for some reason it's saying there are none. This is clearly the recall that is listed. I'm worried I'll be driving and someone may either rear end me or get confused thinking I'm braking when I am not. Very unsafe. I'm just unsure what to do. Any help would be appreciated as I need a vehicle and can't be without one.

My 2010 Chevy Malibu randomly started having electrical problems a few weeks ago. My gauge cluster lights will not turn on and I cannot see my blinkers or other information I need in the gauge cluster. The gauge cluster lights wont come on so I cannot see how fast i am going at night. The brake lights illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed. The car is difficult to get out of park. After researching the problems I found that GM has issued recalls for the BCM on Chevrolet Malibus recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012. I then contacted my local chevy dealership and they told me my vehicles VIN does not fall under the recall they issued so I would have to pay to have the problems addressed. I explained to the dealership that this is a well known issue and how unsafe that it is and they then told me “There is nothing we do about it.”. I do not feel safe driving the vehicle and I feel that these issues that it is having will put my life at risk and others because these malfunctions will obviously increase the risk of a crash. I feel that it is wrong to have a customer pay for repairs on a part of a vehicle that has recalls and is a crucial safety component.

The headlights will repeatedly stop working. I got both headlight bulbs replaced and two months later the passenger side low beam light was flickering. it would sometimes come back on if a bump in the road was hit or if it was tapped then it went out completely. This is very costly and unsafe to be driving at night with. It is most likely a problem with the headlight assembly. I have had the vehicle inspected multiple times and there was not anything reported to me. I can not afford to keep spending hundreds of dollars over and over again on the same issue. This is a continuous issue that I have seen in many other Chevy malibus and this needs to be fixed immediately.

The issue is that there are times when the brake lights kick on when I’m not braking and they stay on and when I brake they turn off. I’m at risk and so are the people who drive in back of me. The lights kick on and they don’t know when I’m actively braking. I took it to the Merle stone a year ago now and they “fixed it” but it still occurred. No warning lamps/lights. It was my moms car before it became mine and she’s told me that when she drove it, it was already happening before it was gifted to me so I can’t pinpoint exactly when it started happening. I’ve searched the internet and I’ve came upon stories of other people with this same make and model have the same issue. I currently don’t that the invoice of when they “fixed” the issue but I could always contact the Merle stone and get a copy emailed (hopefully) if needed.

Passenger side low beam headlight wiring harness connector keeps melting even after replacement. Noticed online that many owners are experiencing the same issue. Replaced harness multiple times and same issue reoccurs after two to three weeks of use.

I drive down the road and the brake lights come on I hit the brake then they go off. Randomly when I drive service esc service traction come on but as soon as I turn the car off and back on it is gone. Cruise control stopped working as well.

THE BRAKES ARE DOING THE SAME THING THAT WAS RECALLED AND REPAIRED BACK IN 2014. THEY ARE ILLUMINATING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND TURN OFF WHILE I HIT THE BRAKES. I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES AND CANNOT GET MY CAR INSPECTED WITHOUT GETTING THIS CORRECTED. I HAVE BOUGHT SEVERAL PARTS TRYING TO REPAIR THIS BUT THE PARTS ARE NOT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. CRUISE CONTROL, STABILITY CONTROL AND SEVER OTHER FUNCTIONS ARE NOT WORKING EITHER ALL OF THEM ARE RELATED TO THE SAME RECALL ISSUED BACK IN 2014. IS THERE ANY KIND OF WARRANTY ON THE RECALL THAT WAS REPAIRED?

I purchased the car for my mother on 10/20/2015 from Mike Savoie Chevrolet in Troy, MI. At the time I had a concern because there was a message being displayed on the car “Service ESC”, I was informed by the dealer that it was a false message and there was no issue with the car, we should just disregard but if we had any problems to let him know moving forward. At that time we did not have issues with anything else. There was about 80,000 miles on the odometer when we bought it, there are only about 95,300 now. Recently the brake lights have been coming on when the brakes are not applied, we have taken the car to a mechanic three times for this issue but he has been unable to duplicate it, as a result he felt that the brake pedal sensor was at fault and replaced it, but the issue still exists, a wasted $200! My 17 year old grandson is now using the car, the issue occurred again today and I discovered that this issue may be associated with a recall which also includes the “Service ESC” message which has been on the car since I bought it. However, when I enter the VIN it shows no open recalls. Apparently it was not fixed and the dealer should have fixed it before I bought it or I should have been notified of the recall. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY GRANDSON’S SAFETY AND WILL NEED TO SWITCH MY CAR WITH HIM SO THAT HE CAN BE AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE! Not only do the brake lights come on when not applied, but you need to tap the brake to turn them off at that point other drivers are not aware that the brake is being applied. Taking the car back to the repairman today. Please help. Thank you very much for your time and attention to this matter.

The component that has malfunctioned or failed is the pigtail for the low beam headlight on the driver side. The safety issue is that I am driving with one headlight reducing the visibility of the road. The problem has been reproduced because this is the second time that I had to change the headlights. The vehicle was not inspected by the manufacturer, police, or Insurance representative because the price would have been more than $300. There are no warning lamps or messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to failure. It occurred two years ago. And once again this year.

WHILE DRIVING THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL BE SET AND ALL OF A SUDDEN TURN OFF. THE GAUGES ON THE DASH WOULD SPORATICALLY JUMP UP AND DOWN AND SOMETIMES FLATLINE AS IF THE CAR WAS OFF. WHEN BRAKING THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD ENGAGE IF MY HAND PRESSED THE BUTTON LLOCATED ON THE STEERING WHEEL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SPEED UP WHILE TRYING TO SLOW DOWN. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD BE ON WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKES AND WOULD TURN ON ONCE BRAKES WERE PRESSED. RECALL WORK WAS REPORTED TO BE COMPLETED JANUARY 2015 BUT PROBLEMS STILL PERSIST. THERE IS ALSO A BULLETIN FOR SPECIAL COVERAGE THAT IS LIMITED TO 150,000 MILES WHICH I DON'T RECIEVE BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS OVER THAT MILEAGE BUT THE DANGERS OF THE VEHICLE STILL PERSIST. THESE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN PRESENT SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR 2 OR 3 YEARS AGO. THE LAST INCIDENT HAPPENED JUST 2 DAYS AGO. I CANTACTED CHEVY AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T COVER IT BECAUSE OF THE MILES.

THIS HAS BEEN AN ON GOING PROBLEM AND WE ONLY REALIZE IT STILL EXISTS WHEN ONE OF OUR FAMILY IS FOLLOWING THE 2010 MALIBU IN ANOTHER CAR. WE HAD BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO A CHEVROLET SERVICE CENTER IN THE PAST AND WERE CHARGED FOR A "REPAIR". WHEN WE AGAIN NOTICED THE PROBLEM WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO A FIRESTONE SERVICE CENTER AND THEY CHARGED US FOR A "REPAIR". WE JUST NOTICED THE PROBLEM AGAIN AND NOW ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. A SEARCH OF THE VIN SHOWS NO UNREPAIRED RECALLS SO WE ARE NOT SURE IF THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD ALREADY BROUGHT IT IN (WE ARE THE SECOND OWNER) OR IF THIS PARTICULAR VIN WAS NOT THOUGHT TO BE AFFECTED. WHILE COMMUTING TO WORK FROM HOME ON A MAIN INTERSECTION A POWER REDUCTION OCCURRED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER, SPEED, AND THE ABILITIES TO FUNCTION NORMALLY CLOSE TO WORK I PARKED IN THE NEAREST PARKING LOT AND SCHEDULED A REPAIR AT A AUTOMOTIVE SHOP... AFTER INSPECTING IT A MECHANIC REPLACED THROTTLE BODY, GAS PEDAL AND AIR INTAKE HOSE COSTING $860.. UPON PICKUP ABOUT 5 MINUTES INTO DRIVING A POWER REDUCTION STILL OCCURED UPON REINSPECTION AND NO CODES IN A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME HE WASN'T ABLE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM...I THAN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHO THAN RAN A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND DID A FEW MINOR REPAIRS AND A CLUSTER INSTRUMENT COMING OUT TO $910..UPON PICKUP FROM CERTIFIED DEALER A POWER REDUCTION AGAIN REOCCURRING I HAD TO PAY A EXTRA $100 TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER SHIP FOR REPAIR FOR IT BEING EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO TRANSPORT IT MANUALLY FEELING THE HEADACHE AND THE PAIN OF COSTLY REPAIRS FOR A PROBLEM WITHOUT A DEFINITE POSSIBLE WAY OF REPAIRING I FEEL ITS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN OVER LOOKED BY GM CHEVY NOW KNOWING THE STORY OF THE POWER REDUCING IN MANY GM VEHICLES I FORSURE WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS AUTO MAKER.

IN 2012, WE WERE DRIVING ALONG AND ATTEMPTED TO BACK INTO A PARKING SPOT, WHEN THE CAR REFUSED TO REVERSE. IT STARTED GOING SLOWER THAN THE USUAL SPEED LIMIT, SO I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I PULLED OUT TO HEAD HOME, BUT THE CAR DIDN'T GET MUCH SPEED, NOR WOULD IT REVERSE AT ALL. I HAD IT TOWED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS BURNED OUT. I'D ONLY HAD THE CAR LESS THAN 30,000 MILES. CHEVROLET REPAIRED OR REBUILT THE TRANSMISSION. A YEAR LATER, I WAS PULLED OVER DUE TO THE TAIL LIGHTS NOT WORKING. 2016 THE CAR WOULDN'T PICK UP SPEED AGAIN. I HAD IT TOWED AND THE TRANSMISSION HAD BURNED OUT AGAIN. WE GOT IT REBUILT A SECOND TIME AND NOW THE LIGHTS, WIPERS, DOOR LOCKS, AND WINDOWS AREN'T WORKING AGAIN EITHER. VEHICLE GOES INTO POWER ENGINE REDUCED MODE/ESC OFF/ SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL MODE. THE CAR LOSES SPEED AND GOES ABOUT 20 MPH THE RPM GO CRAZY AND CAR SHAKES VIOLENTLY. IT HAS HAPPENED FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS AND IT HAPPENS WHILE IDDLE, WHILE DRIVING IT, WHILE THE AC IS ON OR OFF IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. IVE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY TWICE, ACCELERATOR PEDAL 3 TIMES, BATTERY, MAP SENSOR, KNOCK SENSOR, BATTERY TERMINALS, POWER TRAIN RELAY, SPARK PLUGS, CLEANED ALL THE COROSION AND ITS BEEN AT THE CHEVY DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THIS SAME ISSUE AND STILL THE CAR IS NOT FIXED. IVE SPENT SO MUCH MONEY AND EVEN CHEVY CANNOT FIND WHATS WRONG WITH THIS CAR. ITS HAPPENED WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, STREETS, WHILE TURNING OR STOPPED AT A LIGHT. ALL MY ELECTRIAL DOSENT WORK. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY PASSENGER AND DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHTS FOR THE 5TH TIME IN THE LAST 3 YEARS. JUST REPLACED THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT LAST WEEK AND EXACTLY A WEEK LATER, IT IS BACK OUT ON THE SAME SIDE, 6TH TIME. IN THE PAST, I'VE HAD BOTH REPLACED WHEN ONE BLOWS OUT BECAUSE OF HOW YOU HAVE ACCESS THE HEADLIGHTS, THE CAR REPAIR SHOPS CHARGES ME $180 AND UP. IMAGINE ME HAVING TO DOING THIS THAT MUCH BECAUSE IT IS MANDATORY TO GET REPAIRED. I CAN NOT DRIVE WITH ONE HEADLIGHT OR NONE. ONE BLOWS AND A FEW MONTHS LATER THE OTHER BLOWS OR THE SAME. IT IS HARD TO TELL EXACTLY AT WHAT POINT IT HAPPENS BECAUSE AT TIMES YOU JUST DON'T KNOW IT IS OUT UNTIL SOMEONE CALLS YOU OR A KIND DRIVER LET'S YOU KNOW. PEOPLE HAVE TRIED SEVERAL OPTIONS FOR REPAIRS AND NO LUCK. THIS MUST BE RECALLED. THE 2010 CHEVY MALIBU DESIGN TO REPAIR THE HEADLIGHT MAKES IT HIGHLY INCONVENIENT FOR MY POCKETS DUE TO THE COST OF LABOR. MANY SHOPS HAVE REFUSED SERVICING ME BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT TAKES TO GET TO THE HEADLIGHT BY TAKING OFF THE BUMPER AND THE NUMBER OF SCREWS TO BE REMOVED ETC. I HAVE HAD TO MISS WORK, GO IN LATE OR LEAVE EARLY TO GET MY HEADLIGHT/S REPLACED. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND UNLUCKY BEING AN OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE.

REPEATING HEADLAMP FAILURE. BULBS HAVE BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES IN PAST YEAR. BOTH BULBS (DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES) HAVE BEEN REPLACED DURING SERVICE THOUGH ONLY ONE HAD FAILED, IN HOPES OF EXTENDING TIME BETWEEN THE NEXT REQUIRED SERVICE. HEADLAMP BULB REPLACEMENT ON THIS VEHICLE IS COMPLEX, REQUIRING REMOVAL OF THE FRONT-END/BUMPER ASSEMBLY TO ACCESS THE LAMP ASSEMBLY, USUALLY REQUIRING BODY SHOP EXPERTISE AND COST (>$200+) VERSUS A QUICK DIY JOB OR LOCAL SERVICE MECHANIC. INTERNET SEARCHES INDICATE MANY CUSTOMERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS, POINTING TO A FAILED DESIGN BY CHEVROLET WITH THE DAYLIGHT RUNNING TIME CIRCUITRY CAUSING HIGH CURRENTS LEADING TO HIGH TEMPERATURES AND OVERHEATING/MELTING/DEFORMED CONNECTORS, PIGTAIL AND WIRING COMPONENTS. A VEHICLE WITHOUT TWO WORKING HEADLAMPS IS AN OPERATIONAL, CITATIONAL AND SAFETY HAZARD, THUS DISABLING THE VEHICLE. THIS DESIGN PROBLEM MUST BE ADDRESSED BY RECALL.

ALL THE OTHER LIGHTS ON THAT SIDE WORK FINE. A FEW TIMES I COULD TAP ON THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND IT WOULD COME BACK ON. I TOOK IT APART AND FOUND THAT THE PLASTIC CONNECTOR WAS BROKEN AND SHORTED OUT, SO I ORDERED A NEW WIRING HARNESS THAT GOES FROM THE GROUND WIRE SPLIT TO THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY, PUT IT TOGETHER AND IT WORKED FINE FOR 2 DAYS AND WENT OUT AGAIN. I TOOK THE FRONT END OFF AGIAN AND UNPLUGGED THE BULB AND PLUGGED IT BACK IN AND IT WORKS FINE AGAIN. I HAVE CHECKED ALL THE WIRES AND THE GROUND SCREW AND CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM. THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. I HAVE ALSO LOOKED THIS UP AND A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS FROM 2009-2012 CHEVY MALIBU.

THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM KEEPS GOING OUT, EVEN AFTER REPEATEDLY REPLACING HEADLIGHT. JUST YESTERDAY, THE DRIVER SIDE WENT OUT TOO SO NO LOW BEAMS USABLE CURRENTLY. MY READING HAS BROUGHT ME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT IN 2008-2012 CHEVY MALIBUS, THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE PULLING VOLTAGE FROM THE LOW BEAMS WHICH IS INCREASING THE AMPERAGE IN THE LOW BEAMS WHICH IS CAUSING OVERHEATING AND THEREFORE THE BULBS AND CONNECTORS TO GO OUT REPEATEDLY.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000.

I'VE SEEN ALOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE THAT I HAD. IT'S A VERY EXPRESSIVE REPAIR ABOUT $640. I WOULD ASSUME SINCE IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AS WELL.

THE HEADLIGHT OF THE CAR KEEP BURNING OFF, I HAVE CHANGED THE BULB 5 OR 6 TIMES IN EACH SIDE, SND WE CHANGE THE CONNECTORS ONE TIME. SO ANNOYING. WHEN I TURN ON THE CAR THE HEADLIGHTS WILL FLASH AND THEN ONE WILL GO OUT WHILE THE OTHER ONE STAYS ON DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD I DON'T HIT ANY BUMPS OR POTHOLES OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT AND THE HEAD LIGHT WILL COME ON, AT THAT POINT IT STAYED ON FOR ONE DAY AND THEN IT WENT BACK OUT AGAIN. MY THIRD BRAKE LIGHT WILL WORK OFF AND ON, MORE OFF THEN ON. MY REAR DEFROSTERS DO NOT WORK AT ALL AND THE CONTROL ON THE DRIVER SEAT DOES NOT WORK EITHER. WITHIN THE LAST MONTH WE HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY AND CABLES FOR THE CAR AND WAS TOLD THAT THAT SHOULD FIX ALL THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND IT DID NOT. I HAVE 2 VIDEOS OF WHAT THE CAR DOES BUT CANNOT UPLOAD ON HERE.

WHEN THAT HAPPENS, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WILL FAIL TO FUNCTION. I WOULD IMAGINE THAT THE FIX INVOLVES ADDING SOME SORT OF HEAT INSULATION TO THIS ELECTRICAL CENTER TO EITHER PROTECT THE WHOLE UNIT FROM THE HEAT OR TO PREVENT THE CONSISTENT EXPANSION UNDER HIGH TEMPERATURES. THERE SHOULD BE SOME TYPE OF RECALL OR REIMBURSEMENT. AS OF TODAY. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO SPEND 200.00 JUST TO GO OUT AGAIN IN A WEEK. I'VE HAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THE DEALER HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT BECAUSE MY CAR NEVER SHOWED ANY "CODES". MY CAR HAS ACCELERATION PROBLEMS, THE RIGHT HEAD LIGHT SOCKET HARNESS KEEPS BURNING OUT AND I'M ALSO STARTING TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAKE LIGHTS. WAS RECENTLY MADE AWARE (NUMEROUS TIMES IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS) THAT WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. AT TIMES WHEN NOT APPLYING THE BRAKES THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON ACTING AS IF I WAS BREAKING AND WHEN I BRAKE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURN OFF (SO IN OTHER WORDS IT IS REVERSED). AROUND THE SAME TIME THAT THIS BEGAN TO HAVE LIKELY STARTED OCCURRING THE FOLLOWING WARNING LIGHTS BEGAN TO APPEAR; "ESC" AND SERVICE TRACTION" (I DO NOT KNOW IF THERE IS ANY RELATION BETWEEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS AND NOTED WARNING LIGHTS). I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ESPECIALLY WITH MY FAMILY IN IT AS THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT GIVING OTHER DRIVERS AROUND ME THE APPROPRIATE INDICATION OF WHAT MY VEHICLES INTENTIONS ARE. WHEN THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF AT ONCE, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO JIM BROWNE CHEVROLET OF TAMPA, FLORIDA WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CIRCUITS IN BOTH OF THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WERE FAULTY. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL; HOWEVER, THE YEAR AND MODEL OF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. DRIVERS SIDE LOW BEAM BULB NEEDS TO BE REPLACED OFTEN. IVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 4 YEARS, SINCE NOVEMEBER 2013, AND IVE CHANGED THE LOW BEAM BULB AT LEAST 6 TIMES. IVE USED DIFFERENT LIGHTBULB MANUFACTURERS. THEREFORE, I BELIEVE ITS NOT THE BULBS ITSELF, BUT RATHER AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. IVE ALSO CHECKED THE LOW BEAM FUSE EACH TIME THE LIGHT HAD GONE OUT, AND THE FUSE WAS STILL GOOD, BUT I CHANGED IT ANYWAY. THIS HAPPENED WHEN CAR WAS IN MOTION, IDLING, AND UPON BEING STARTED.

CAR WAS SERVICED FOR A 2014 RECALL BECAUSE OF THE BRAKE LIGHTS OPERATING IN REVERSE (ON WHEN FOOT IS OFF THE BRAKE AND OFF WHEN BRAKE IS PRESSED), PROBLEM HAS RETURNED AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE "FIX" THAT WAS APPLIED DURING THE RECALL WAS JUST A "BAND-AID" AND THAT THE BCM WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. VERY UNSAFE CAR TO DRIVE SINCE THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE TELLING THE DRIVERS BEHIND YOU THAT YOU ARE NOT STOPPING WHEN, IN FACT, YOU ARE STOPPING. WITH MORE AND MORE DISTRACTED DRIVERS ON THE ROAD, WHO RELY ON SEEING BRAKE LIGHTS IN THEIR PERIPHERAL VISION IN ORDER TO AVOID A COLLISION, THE DANGER IS INCREASED EXPONENTIALLY. I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND WAS ASKED "WHAT DO YOU WANT US TO DO?", WHICH BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE UNWILLING TO HELP ME. THIS NEEDS TO FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR GRAVELY INJURED.

ISSUE STARTED 08/27/16 WHILE 19 YEAR OLD WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT. AS THE BRAKE PEDAL IS COMPRESSED THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF. WHILE DRIVING THEY ARE ON. SERVICE TRACTION AND ESC WARNINGS COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND HAVE BEEN ADVISED THERE IS NOT AN OPEN RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE. A CASE HAS BEEN OPENED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE ALMOST BEEN REAR ENDED SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO THIS ISSUE. THE VEHICLE IS SCHEDULED FOR INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE 09/01/16 AT MILLER AND SONS CHEVROLET. THEY HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE ISSUE. I HAVE A SUSPICION THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE ON A PREVIOUS RECALL (14V252000) AFTER SEEING SOME RECENT COMPLAINTS FROM THOSE WHOM HAVE HAD THE ISSUE FIXED THE FIRST TIME. THIS IS THE 5 TIME IN 2 MONTHS I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THIS VEHICLE IN THE SHOP. ONCE FOR INTAKE AND EXHAUST SOLENOID REPLACEMENT. "TAPPING NOISES" THESE ULTIMATELY LED TO A TIMING CHAIN REPLACEMENT OF WHICH GM COVERED 800.00. I HAD TO PAY 600.00. IN ALL I HAVE SPENT OVER 900.00 ON THIS VEHICLE FOR REPAIRS WHICH I FEEL SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER OTHER VEHICLE RECALLS. EITHER FIX THE EXISTING PROBLEMS OR TAKE THE VEHICLE OFF THE MARKET AND BUY BACK.

NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 IMPACTED THIS VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECALL AT A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. 14V252000 STATES: "IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, INCREASED RESISTANCE IN THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) CONNECTION MAY RESULT IN VOLTAGE FLUCTUATIONS IN THE BRAKE APPLY SENSOR (BAS) CIRCUIT. THESE FLUCTUATIONS CAN CAUSE ONE OR MORE OF THESE CONDITIONS: THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING PUSHED; THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE PEDAL IS PUSHED; ..." WHEN DRIVING BEHIND THE VEHICLE WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IT I NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ON WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND SEEMED TO GO OFF WHEN SHE WOULD HAVE PRESSED ON THE BRAKES. WHEN A CHEVROLET DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND I EXPLAINED THE CONDITION WAS CONSISTENT WITH THE RECALL SYMPTOMS, I WAS TOLD IT WAS ALREADY FIXED AND ANY FURTHER WORK WOULD COST MONEY. AFTER RESEARCHING THE "FIX" IN THE RECALL I CHECKED THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AT THE BCM. IT DID HAVE DIELECTRIC GEL APPLIED TO THE BDM WHERE THE CABLE CONNECTED SO REPAIR WAS DONE. AFTER REMOVING AND INSERTING THE CABLE SEVERAL TIMES TO REMOVE ANY CORROSION AT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL, AND PUTTING IT BACK TOGETHER MYSELF, THE PROBLEM HASN'T RETURNED YET. HOWEVER, THE CONDITION OF HAVING BRAKE LIGHTS REVERSED IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF THE PROBLEM, INITIALLY. BEFORE I RE-APPLIED THE FIX I DID DISCOVER THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULDN'T ENGAGE WHEN THE CONDITION WAS PRESENT (IT WAS A FREQUENT CONDITION BUT WASN'T ALWAYS THERE). THERE WERE NO OTHER INDICATIONS THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE REVERSED OTHER THAN LOOKING AT THE LIGHTS FROM OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS THAT GM'S FIX MIGHT BE FLAWED AS THE RECALL CONDITION RECURRED ON MY VEHICLE AFTER THE DESIGNATED FIX WAS PERFORMED AT THE GM DEALERSHIP, CAUSING RISK TO US AND OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS.

RECALL PRIOR REPLACED THE HARNESS IN 2014, BUT NOW CHEVY DEALER IS SAYING THIS IS NOT RELATED, YET IT IS THE SAME SYMPTOMS OF ORIGINAL RECALL BACK IN 2014. THE RECALL REPAIR IN 2014 SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN A BAND-AID ON WHAT COULD LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND LOSS OF A LIFE IF NOT REPAIRED CORRECTLY. CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR OF A KNOWN ISSUE THAT GM ONLY PUT A TEMPORARY FIX ON BUT NEVER SOLVED THE ENTIRE PROBLEM.

WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE OFF THE BLINKER OR BRAKE LIGHT DOES NOT WORK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. ALSO WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE ON THE CONSOLE FLASHES WITH NUMBERS THEN WITH THE LINES. I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2010 MALIBU WITH THE BCM BODY CONTROL MODULE. THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS LUMINATE WITH OUT YOU STEPPING ON THE BRAKES. WHAT NEEDS TO BE KNOWN IS THAT IS ALSO AFFECTS THE BLINKERS, BRAKE AND PARK LIGHTS. IT CAN ALSO BURN OUT YOUR BULBS. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE I TAKE A CHANCE ON MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN AND CHANGING LANES WITHOUT GETTING HIT. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN AND I PRAY EVERY DAY THAT WE MAKE A SAFE JOURNEY. ON AUGUST 3 I TOOK MY CAR TO CARGILL CHEVROLET IN PUTNAM, CT. TO SEE WHY IT WAS DOING THIS I THOUGHT THAT IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THEY THEN REPLACED A SWITCH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AT A COST OF $272.03 THAT THEY SAID WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THE NEXT DAY IT WAS DOING THE SAME THING SO I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY SAID THAT THE WHOLE BRACKET IN THE REAR WINDOW NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $402.40. THIS SEEMS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. YESTERDAY I SENT AN E-MAIL ABOUT THE TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR ARM MALFUNCTIONING FOR THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL ON MY 2010 CHEVY MALIBU. IT GOT TO THE POINT YESTERDAY THAT IF I WANTED TO INDICATE A RIGHT TURN I HAD TO CONSTANTLY HOLD UP THE ARM TO GET IT TO SIGNAL. TODAY I TOOK IT IN TO BE REPAIRED AND IT COST ME $218.00. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT HE HAS REPLACED CLOSE TO A HUNDRED OF THESE IN THE LAST FEW YEARS AND THAT IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH GM PRODUCTS. I HAD MY HUSBAND AND HIS BROTHER PUSH US OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND IT WAS DRIVING FINE FOR THE FIRST 3 BLOCKS, THEN STARTED TO CHUG AND WOULDN'T SHIFT CORRECTLY LEAVING A STOP LIGHT. THE HEADLAMPS PROVIDE POOR VISIBILITY. THE ILLUMINATION OF THE LOW BEAMS IS ONLY ABOUT 15 FEET IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS REQUIRES US TO DRIVE WITH THE HIGH BEAMS ON MOST OF THE TIME. HOWEVER, WHEN ONCOMING TRAFFIC ARE COMING, WE SWITCH BACK TO LOW BEAMS. WE HAVE TRIED VARIOUS LIGHT BULBS BUT THAT DIDN'T FIX THE ISSUE. MY HUSBAND HAS PHYSICALLY TRIED TO TILT THE LIGHT BULBS, BUT THAT DOESN'T WORK EITHER. THERE NEEDS TO BE A REDESIGN OF THE HEADLAMPS TO PROVIDE BETTER VISIBILITY. POOR VISIBILITY CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, ONE WEEK LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE SENSOR A SECOND TIME AND THE FAILURE RECURRED THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
