The Electronic Stability Control warning light illuminated, and the steering wheel seized. In addition, the contact stated that the steering wheel was difficult to turn. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was made aware of Special Coverage Program: 15356; however, the contact was informed that the repair was not covered under the program. Additionally, the contact was informed of NHSTA Campaign Number: 14V252000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lightening, Vehicle Speed Control, Electronic Stability Control (ESC); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

The power steering warning light and the ESC warning light were illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact was able to continue driving to her residence by using physical strength to turn the steering wheel. The contact stated that the failure had persisted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V252000 (Electrical System, Exterior Lighting, Vehicle Speed Control, Electronic Stability Control). The contact stated that on various occasions while driving at various speeds, the traction control and power steering disengaged independently as the "Reduced Engine Power" warning message was displayed and the vehicle decelerated to 10 MPH. The contact also stated that the brake lights flickered intermittently without depressing the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the intake camshaft actuator, mass air flow, and manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 168,000.

THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME I'VE ENCOUNTERED THIS EXACT ISSUE, AND HAVE HAD PREVIOUS ISSUES AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE (USED) BACK IN 2013. BOTH TIMES THIS EXACT ISSUE AT HAND OCCURRED, BOTH HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING. FIRST TIME, I WAS DRIVING IN A SHARP CURVE WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT. THIS LAST TIME I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. LUCKILY NOTHING WAS HIT IN EITHER CASES, HOWEVER THIS PAST TIME I PULLED MUSCLES IN MY BACK STRAINING SO HARD TO TRY AND STEER THE VEHICLE TO GET AT LEAST VERY MINIMUM OFF THE ROAD AND ONTO A SIDE STREET AND TO SAFETY. AS BOTH TIMES I WERE DRIVING THE ESC LIGHT CAME ON, AND POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON. RESULTING IN ME NOT BEING ABLE TO BRAKE, OR STEER - THE ONLY STEERING I WERE ABLE TO DO WAS VERY STRAINED (AS PREVIOUSLY STATED), I HAD TO PUT FORTH EXTREME EFFORTS TO GET IT TO BARELY TURN. THE STEERING WHEEL ACTED AS IF IT WERE LOCKED. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED, AND COVERED UNDER A RECALL AS I'VE READ/HEARD A MULTITUDE OF THE SAME ISSUES THAT ARE ALL COMMON WITH THIS EXACT YEAR, MODEL/CAR. AND FOR THIS BE SUCH A DANGER, IT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED BEFORE IT COSTS SOMEONE THEIR LIFE. I'M TERRIFIED TO THINK WHAT IF EVERYONE AROUND ME WEREN'T PAYING ATTENTION WHEN BOTH EVENTS TOOK PLACE, IT COULD'VE RESULTED IN MY LIFE. MY SPOUSE BEING SINGLE RAISING OUR PRECIOUS 4 CHILDREN. HOW CHEVY/GM CAN LIVE KNOWING THESE ISSUES HAPPEN AND NOT ADDRESS IT IS HORRIBLE, KNOWING VERY WELL IT COULD RESULT IN A LIFE I'D NOT MORE BEING LOST. THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET THE LIGHTS TO TURN OFF AND ME TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE, I HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF, WAIT, AND TURN IT ON IN ORDER TO CONTINUE MY DRIVE TO WORK. I'M TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS DEATH TRAP OF A CAR, ESPECIALLY KNOWING THESE ISSUES COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME, WITHOUT WARNING OR REASON. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED. SINCE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE BACK IN 2015 (USED) I HAVE HAD ONGOING STEERING ISSUES. THE STEERING FEELS MUCH LOOSER THAN MOST VEHICLES. IT HAS ALMOST TAKEN ME OFF OF THE ROAD SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE HAD MECHANICS LOOK AT THE CAR AND THEY HAVE ALL SUGGEST I TAKE IT INTO CHEVY FOR DIAGNOSTICS SINCE IT IS ELECTRICAL STEERING. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE STEERING ON THIS EXACT YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL, THOUGH IT SAYS MY VIN WAS NOT AFFECTED. IT IS A HUGE CONCERN FOR MYSELF TO HAVE THIS STEERING CORRECTED AS I HAVE A TODDLER IN MY BACK SEAT. WHEN ROADS ARE WET, UNEVEN PAVEMENT, OR THE WEATHER WINDY.. MY CAR PULLS OFF THE ROAD DRASTICALLY I HAVE TO GRIP MY STEERING WHEEL SO HARD TO THE POINT MY HANDS TURN RED FROM GRABBING SO TIGHTLY IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN SOMEWHAT CONTROL OF THIS VEHICLE.. MY VEHICLE HAS APPROX. 91,500 MILES. UPON STARTING THE CAR RECENTLY, AN ERROR APPEARED SAYING "SERVICE TRACTION" AND "ENGINE POWER REDUCED." THE VEHICLE COULD NOT GO ABOVE 35 MPH AND THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM WAS DISABLED. UPON INSPECTION BY THE DEALERSHIP, THEY DISCOVERED THE SUNROOF DRAIN TUBES HAD SHRUNK AND WATER HAD ACCUMULATED IN THE FLOORBOARD, EVENTUALLY LEADING TO CORROSION. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER DRIVERS REPORTING ISSUES WITH THE DRAIN TUBES BECOMING DISCONNECTED AND CAUSING LEAKS. THE ESC LIGHTS, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS AND ABS LIGHTS ARE ON. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY AND THEY 'FIXED' IT BY REPLACING THE HUB ASSEMBLY. WORKED OK FOR A MONTH. LIGHTS ARE BACK ON AS WELL AS RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING THE SPEEDOMETER, GAS GAUGE, TEMP GAUGE, AND RPM'S WILL DROP TO 0 THEN BACK TO NORMAL AND THIS WILL CONTINUE FOR THE A WHOLE TRIP. THEN THE NEXT DAY OR FEW DAYS IT WILL BE FINE THEN DO IT AGAIN. ALL THE LIGHTS ARE ON CONTINUOUSLY.

THE THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NO LONGER SHIFT AND THE SOLENOID IS STUCK OPEN WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. PROMPTING THE DEALERSHIP TO TRY AND SELL ME A WHOLE NEW $5,000 TRANS. WHEN THE CAR ONLY HAS 130,000 MILES ON IT. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN RUNNING SLOW ON ACCELERATION BUT HAS NEVER BEEN STUCK IN FIRST GEAR LEAVING ME LEFT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WAITING FOR HELP TO COME GET ME. THE HEADLIGHT BURN OUT LIKE EVERY 6 MONTHS RESULTING IN TAKING OFF THE BUMPER OR PAYING $200 FROM THE DEALERSHIP FOR A $5 BULB. THE ABS, ESC, AND SERVICE TRACTION LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE SUDDENLY MY CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. I EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND AS MY CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IT STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS AND THE BREAKS LOCKED UP SO I COULDNT STOP. IT ONLY STOPPED ROLLING AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK, HITTING THE EMERGENCY BREAK, AND QUICKLY GETTING THE KEY OUT BEFORE HITTING THE FAMILY BEHIND ME. I TRIED TO TURN ON MY HAZARDS AND THEY WOULDNT COME ON. I RESTARTED THE CAR, AND THE WHOLE DASH WAS FLICKERING. AFTER TRYING THIS 3 TIMES IT STARTED, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE CAR WENT TO 7/8 RPM AND DID NOTHING. THEN IT STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS AGAIN BEFORE I COULD PUT IT IN PARK I WAS THRUSTED FORWARD INTO THE CENTER OF A ROUNDABOUT. AFTER THAT IT BEGAN TO DRIVE. I WAS LESS THAN 5 MINUTES FROM A FAMILY MEMBERS HOME SO I TRIED TO MAKE IT. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR GOING 30 MPH FOR LESS THAN 5 MINUTES BEFORE THE SPEED IMMEDIATELY DROPPED TO ZERO, AND THE CAR BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARDS AGAIN. MY FACE HIT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAUSE OF THE JOLT WHICH RESULTED IN FACIAL BRUISES. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WHEN THIS ISSUE HAPPENED ALL OF THE ELECTRIC IN THE CAR STARTED GOING CRAZY. I WAS ON A BACKROAD, AND LUCKILY A GOOD SAMARITAN STOPPED TO HELP ME. I CALLED MY UNCLE WHO IS A MECHANIC WHO TOWED ME BACK TO THE HOUSE. THIS ISNT THE FIRST TIME IVE HAD ISSUE WITH THESE WARNINGS COMING UP AND THEN I HAVE TO SUDDENLY START FIGHTING TO SURVIVE BEING TRAPPED IN A CAR TRYING TO KILL ME. SINCE THIS LAST INCIDENT I HAVE NOT TRIED TO DRIVE THE CAR. AFTER SEEING MULTIPLE MECHANICS THEY CONFIRMED THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE IN THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL OF THE VEHICLE. NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT HAS BEEN CAUSING THIS. THIS KIND OF ISSUE COULD KILL SOMEONE. IT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED, AND GM NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR SELLING UNRELIABLE, UNSAFE, DEATH TRAPS TO CONSUMERS.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD, THE CAR WILL JUST STOP MOVING FORWARD ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING. WE HAVE TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHICH IS VERY DIFFICULT TO DO IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE INDICATOR LIGHTS FOR POWER STEERING / ESC COME ON AND THE CHIMES RING 3 TIMES. UPON STOPPING THE CAR, IF THE ENGINE REMAINS OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES, THEN THE CAR WILL START BACK UP AND RUN NORMALLY FOR UP TO 2 MONTHS BEFORE IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 6 TIMES OVER THE PAST 18 MONTHS. WE HAVE HAD THE CAR TO THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER IN ST. LOUIS 4 TIMES BUT THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE REPLACED A NUMBER OF PARTS RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING BUT THIS HAS PROVEN TO BE INEFFECTIVE. WE ALSO REPLACED THE BATTERY AND CLEANED THE CABLES WITH NO RESULTS. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE AND THE MECHANICS AT THE DEALER HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO FIX IT. WE CANNOT BELIEVE OUR 2011 MALIBU IS THE ONLY CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM.

COME JUNE SAMETHING HAPPENED SERVICE ESC ENGINE DISABLED AND WE HAD TO BE TOWED OFF OF THE EXPRESSWAY IN JUNE OF 2019. AFTER TAKING THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC TO GET IT SERVICED FOR THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN I WAS TOLD THAT THE BODY CONTROL MODULE HAS A SHORTAGE IN IT AND FUSES IN MY FUSE BOX HAD MELTED TO THE FUSE BOX AND CAUSED A SHORTAGE ! THE CAR STOPPING ON THE EXPRESSWAY COULD HAVE KILLED ME AND MY MOM!!!

I RECENTLY OBTAINED MY 2011 MALIBU LT FROM SUPERIOR AUTO IN BEDFORD, IN. IT IS A TRULY OUTSTANDING MACHINE. I WAS PLEASED WITH THE ENTIRE ECOTEC 2.4 ENGINE AND FUEL ECONOMY. THE DRIVETRAIN IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT TOPIC. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO TRYING THE NEW PUSH BUTTON SHIFT SETUP. IT WAS SMOOTH FOR THE FIRST 3 WEEKS OR SO. OH BY THE WAY IT BARELY TURNED 105,000 ON THE ODOMETER. IT STARTED WITH 3RD SHIFTING LATE AND HARD. THEN IT WAS REVERSE NOT CATCHING ONCE SHIFTER WAS ENGAGED, MAKING ME USE MY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ALL OF A SUDDEN IT COMPLETELY STOPPED PULLING FORWARD OR REVERSE. INITIALLY I ASSUMED TRANSMISSION JUST BURNED OUT. WAITED UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING, TRYING AGAIN AND IT ENGAGED GEAR. IT WAS ULTIMATELY SHORT LIVED, ONCE TRANSMISSION WARMS IT STARTS TO FAIL COMPLETELY. I'M VERY DISGRUNTLED AND DISAPPOINTED IN THE CAR COMPANY I WAS RAISED ON. AS WELL AS MY FAMILY FOR GENERATIONS. NOT TO MENTION, THIS MY VERY FIRST CHEVY BUYING ON MY OWN. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON LATELY. SO I TOOK IT TO A PLACE SO THEY COULD CHECK IT. THE RESULTS STATES THAT THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE POWER STEERING WAS LOST AS I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN A CITY ROAD. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES AN HOUR ON A STRAIGHT ROAD, NOT TURNING AT THE TIME. THE SERVICE ESC LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR JERKED TO THE SIDE, WHICH WAS TERRIFYING WITH MY TWO YOUNG KIDS IN THE CAR. THIS REPAIR WAS COVERED UNDER THE GM BULLETIN 15356 AND THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE EPS MOTOR AND TORQUE SENSOR. HOWEVER, SINCE HAVING THE WORK DONE, THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT MY STEERING COLUMN IS NOW BENT. AS I HAVE NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENT, THIS COULD ONLY BE FROM THE IMPACT OF LOSING MY POWER STEERING. I FEEL LIKE THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THIS SPECIAL BULLETIN AS WELL. THIS POWER STEERING FAILURE JEOPARDIZED THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND THIS SHOULD BE MADE A FULL RECALL COVERING ALL THE STEERING COMPONENTS TO THE 2011 CHEVROLET MALIBU. I DROVE RIGHT FROM WORK TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH WAS 9 MILES AWAY, WITH MY HAZARDS ON AND AT A MAX SPEED OF 25 MPH. I DROVE IT INTO THE BAY AND TOLD A SERVICE ADVISOR THAT I WAS TOLD TO BRING IT BACK WHILE THE PROBLEM WE KEEP TRYING TO FIX WAS ACTUALLY HAPPENING. HE TRIED TO GET SOMEONE TO COME HOOK UP THE CODE READER TO IT BUT WAS UNABLE TO SO HE TURNED OFF MY CAR. I RECEIVED A VOICEMAIL MID-DAY MONDAY 2/11/19 TO SAY THAT BECAUSE MY BATTERY HAD BEEN OUT OF MY CAR TOO LONG, THEY HAD TO RELEARN THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. I LEFT A MESSAGE TO SPECIFICALLY SAY THAT THE LAST TIME THE BATTERY HAD BEEN OUT OF MY CAR TO MY KNOWLEDGE WAS 3/2018. WHEN THEY CALLED BACK, THEIR CONCLUSION WAS THAT THE BATTERY HAD NOT BEEN INSTALLED OR SECURED PROPERLY WHICH CAUSED THEM TO HAVE TO RELEARN THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. ON 2/19/2019, IT HAPPENED AGAIN BUT THEY COULD NOT READ A CODE WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN, SO WAS AGAIN SENT TO COME BACK WHEN IT WAS OCCURRING SO THEY COULD HOOK UP THE CODE READER WHILE IT WAS HAPPENING. ON 3/5 I DROVE MY CAR TO THEM WHILE IT WAS DISPLAYING THE MESSAGES AND RUNNING ROUGH. THEY AGAIN TRIED TO PUT THE BLAME ON THE BATTERY. EVEN THOUGH THE CODES WHERE P2176 AND P2135, THE RECOMMENDED FIX WAS NEW BATTERY AND BATTERY CABLES ($733). I STILL HAD WARRANTY FOR THAT BATTERY AS IT WAS INSTALLED NEARLY A YEAR AGO AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENCE, SO I WENT BACK TO THAT AUTO SHOP. HE DID NOT FIND ANYTHING ASSOCIATED TO BATTERY BUT DID FIND GM BULLETIN FROM 2012 (PIP5019). HE RE-CRIMPED THROTTLE BODY CIRCUIT PINS AFTER DOING A PEN OUT TEST AT ECU. IT IS NOW 3/25 AND NO OTHER ISSUES! HOPING WE HAVE FOUND ROOT OF THE PROBLEM. NO THANKS TO DEALER OR CHEVY CUSTOMER CARE...

THEY REPLACED ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY AND PUT A NEW PIGTAIL ON THROTTLE BODY. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON SATURDAY (1/26/19)WHEN I WAS 4 MILES FROM HOME ON A CITY STREET AT 45 MPH. I DROVE IT THE LAST TWO MILES TO WORK W/ HAZARD LIGHT ON AND SLOWLY AS I COULD ONLY GET SPEED UP TO 25-30 MPH. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO TURN OFF AND RESTART CAR TO "RESET" TO NORMAL. TODAY THE DEALER IS REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. THIS WILL BE THE THIRD ONE IN 7 MONTHS AT A COST OF OVER $1000 IN REPAIRS. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE AIR BAG AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE IN BEFORE REGARDING THE ISSUE WITH THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT BEFORE. JUST RECENTLY THE SERVICE ESC (ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL) LIGHT HAD COME ON. I CALLED GENERAL MOTORS REGARDING IF THERE ANY RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE, AND WAS TOLD THERE ARE NOT ACTIVE RECALLS, BUT I SHOULD TAKE MY VEHICLE IN TO HAVE IT SERVICED FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG NOT WORKING PROPERLY (NOT ON). I HAVE ALSO HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH MY TMP(TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING) SYSTEM AS WELL WITH REGARD TO LOW TIRE PRESSURE THAT KEEPS SHOWING THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. WHEN I PUT AIR IN THAT TIRE AIR PRESSURE IS REGISTERING IN THE OTHER TIRES AS WELL. THESE ARE ALL SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS THAT NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED. I DON'T KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT THIS COULD POSSIBLY LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH.

FROM 5/2018 UNTIL PRESENT, MULTIPLE OCCASIONS UPON TURNING THE KEY TO START CAR HAVE EXPERIENCED: ENGINE POWER REDUCED ON MESSAGE BOARD ALONG W/ ESC LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CAR SHAKES AND SPUTTERS. USUALLY CAN MAKE ALL SYMPTOMS EXCEPT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISAPPEAR BY RESTARTING MULTIPLE TIMES. UNTIL LAST WEEK, THE PROBLEM HAS ONLY OCCURRED UPON FIRST STARTING THE CAR REGARDLESS OF THE LENGTH OF TIME IT HAS SET BETWEEN STARTS AND IN ANY WEATHER (IE COLD, WARM, RAINY). LAST FRIDAY, IT CRANKED BUT DID NOT START THE FIRST ATTEMPT OF STARTING AND THEN AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS DID START NORMALLY BUT DURING A TWO MILE DRIVE IT REOCCURRED TWO MORE TIMES AND TOOK MULTIPLE TRIES EACH TIME TO GET IT TO START NORMALLY. EACH TIME I HAD TO QUICKLY PULL OFF STREET TO AVOID TRAFFIC AS IT DECREASED IN POWER AND STARTED SHAKING. THE CODE IT SENDS IS P-2135. THE FIRST TIME BACK IN MAY, I DROVE IT THE 6 MILES TO WORK BUT HAD TO TOW IT AS IT RESULTED IN DEAD BATTERY. THE CODE IT SENDS IS P-2135, SO WE HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY TWICE TO MAKE SURE IT WAS NOT A DEFECTIVE PART. OTHERWISE AFTER MANY HOURS WAITING AT MY MECHANICS, THERE SEEMS TO BE NO ACTUAL DIAGNOSIS THAT WE CAN FIND THAT SEEMS TO TRULY FIX THIS ISSUE. HAVE EMAILED CHEVY AND DO HAVE A SERVICE REQUEST # AND WILL BE CALLING TODAY TO SET UP APPOINTMENT W/ LOCAL DEALER ASAP IN REGARDS TO BULLETIN 15-08-45-001 TO SEE IF THEY WILL COVER THIS AND PRAY THAT IT MAY ACTUALLY ONCE AND FOR ALL FIX THIS ANNOYING PROBLEM. THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TO MAYBE 8MILES WHILE I WAS DRIVING, AND ENOUGH POWER TO THE ENGINE. VERY DANGER, VERY DANGER. THANK GOD THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS PAYING ATTENTION. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 3 YEARS. "LOSS OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING" I HAVE RECENTLY LOST MY ELECTRIC POWERING STEERING AND THE ESC WARNING AS WELL AS THE POWER STEERING WARNING KEEP DISPLAYING, WHEN THIS STARTED I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A POWER GLITCH BECAUSE THE AIR BAG AND OTHER WARNING INDICATORS WOULD ALSO GO OFF RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING IT FIRST HAPPENED WHICH SCARED ME AND I SLOWED MY VEHICLE UNTIL I COULD FINALLY PULL IN SOMEWHERE SAFELY (MY REAR TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS ARE CONSTANTLY NOT READING AT ALL WHICH STARTED ABOUT A MONTH AFTER I HAD NEW TIRES PUT ON IT BUT THAT WAS THE ONLY NOTIFICATION I WAS GETTING UP UNTIL NOW). I THOUGHT MOST OF IT WAS DUE TO THE EXTREMELY COLD WEATHER AND RESTARTING MY CAR TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND I WOULDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT AGAIN FOR A LITTLE WHILE. LAST 3 YRS MY ESC AND SERVICE TRACTION LIGHT COMES ON. LAST AUG 2016 HAD THE CAR IF FOR THIS REPLACED A BRAKE SENSOR PROBLEM CAME BACK 3 WEEKS LATER. WENT FOR 2 MORE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. WHILE TRAVELING AT A SLOW SPEED (BETW 10-20 MPH) ON 3/20/17, THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE, THE SERVICE ESC MESSAGE LIGHT TURNS ON, AND SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT TURNS ON (WITH MESSAGE THAT CAR WILL POWER DOWN). SO, IF I PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE CAR OFF (BEFORE IT SHUTS DOWN ON IT'S OWN), WAIT 2 MINUTES FOR THE COMPUTER TO RESET, THEN GET RPM UP QUICK (SO THE SPEED IS QUICKLY ABOVE THE 20 MPH), THEN IT IS WOULDN'T DO IT AND I COULD GET IT TO THE MECHANIC. WHEN THE MECHANIC WENT TO CHECK IT, THE BATTERY WAS DEAD, SO NO LUCK WITH COMPUTER SCAN. HE PUT IN NEW BATTERY. SO I DROVE IT AND IT DID IT AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE CHECKED IT AND HE REPLACED THE GAS PEDAL (COMPUTER CODE INDICATED A BAD SENSOR). HOWEVER, IT DID NOT TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE. BRAND NEW BATTERY AND STILL DRAINING BATTERY (OVERNIGHT). MECHANIC THINKS A RELAY MAY BE STAYING OPEN SOMEWHERE HOWEVER ISN'T SURE. CURRENTLY NOT DRIVABLE DUE TO THE SHAKING AND THAT SERVICE ESC AND SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL MESSAGES COME ON WITH STATEMENT THAT VEHICLE WILL POWER DOWN (WHILE DRIVING). FIRST OCCURRED ON 3/20/2017 AND IS STILL OCCURRING 4/20/2017 (MECHANIC HASN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIX)! BEEN DEALING WITH A SLOW BATTERY DRAIN SINCE PURCHASED CAR IN JULY 2016. IF DIDN'T DRIVE CAR FOR 5 DAYS, BATTERY WOULD BE DEAD (4TH DAY WAS STILL OK). THEN IN MARCH 2017, OTHER ISSUE STARTED AND THE BATTERY DRAIN BECAME MUCH WORSE. NOW CAR IS SLOWER AND SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHEN ACCELERATING. ALSO SHAKES REAL BAD WHEN STATIONARY. DRIVING AROUND 35-45 MPH. EACH OCCASION, I TOOK INTO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT ON EACH OCCASION CAUSING OCCURRENCE. ON OTHER OCCASIONS, DEALERSHIP WOULD SAY THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE ISSUE. I HAD ONE REPAIR MADE. THE CAR DROVE FINE FOR A WHILE TO LATER START AGAIN. I WAS INFORMED IT WAS A SENSOR. ON LAST OCCURRENCE, I HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. MY 2011 CHEVROLET MALIBU IS CRANKING, BUT NOT STARTING. I HAD A IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP, WHO RAN A TEST ON THE FUEL SYSTEM, BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, BUT NOTHING WAS FOUND. I RESEARCHED IT AND FOUND THAT THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM CAN STOP YOUR VEHICLE FROM STARTING. IT SEEMS THAT THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM LOCKED AFTER I WAS SITTING IN MY CAR DURING LUNCH LISTENING TO THE RADIO FOR AN HOUR. I TURNED THE KEY TWICE TO RESET THE RADIO AFTER IT TIMED OUT. AS I LEFT WORK TO GO HOME IT WOULDN'T START. I FOUND OUT THAT IF YOU RESET THE SYSTEM, IT WILL START AFTER 10-15 MINS. AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT AT THE REPAIR SHOP, IT STARTED. HERE I AM A WEEK LATER AND ITS DOING IT AGAIN, BUT NOW I'M GETTING A SIGNAL WITH A LOCKED CAR SYMBOL ON THE DASH. IT SEEMS THAT THAT ANTI-SYSTEM IS LOCKED AGAIN. I CANNOT FIND OUT HOW TO RESET IT. I WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE PLAYING THE RADIO AT ALL THAT DAY. HOWEVER, THIS ISSUE HAPPENED TO ME A YEAR AFTER I GOT THE CAR TOO AFTER WASHING THE CAR AND LISTENING TO THE RADIO. I FORGOT ABOUT THAT INCIDENT UNTIL NOW. I AM SEEING OVER 250 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. THERE WERE SOME CARS RECALLED, BUT MINE DOES NOT HAVE ONE ASSOCIATED WITH IT. IT GM RECALLED IT ON SOME, THEY SHOULD RECALL IT ON ALL, IT'S THE SAME ISSUE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THEY PLAN TO DO THIS, BECAUSE I'M SEEING AND HEARING THEY ARE NO FIXES AT THE REPAIR SHOP. THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE, IT CAN SOMETIMES GO WEEKS/MONTHS WITHOUT ISSUES, BUT THEN OUT OF NOWHERE IT WILL START HAPPENING AGAIN. SOMETIMES SHUTTING THE CAR OFF, WAITING A FEW MOMENTS, AND RESTARTING WOULD USUALLY GET IT RUNNING CORRECTLY AGAIN. HOWEVER, OTHER TIMES IT WILL REMAIN FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN BECOMING MORE FREQUENT AND STAYING LONGER AS TIME GOES ON. I PURCHASED A 2011 CHEVY MALIBU IN 2012. SINCE THE PURCHASE I'VE EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM, THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT HAS COME ON WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WITH THAT COULD POSSIBLY BE RESOLVED WITH THE RECALL FOR THE SEAT BELT LAP ANCHOR TENSIONER CABLE. I HAVE ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH THE CAR STALLING / LOSING POWER AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AND BEGIN TO ACCELERATE AGAIN INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE ALSO LOST TOTAL CONTROL DUE TO THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING. WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP REGARDING THE CAR STALLING, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND I LEFT WITHOUT ANYTHING ELSE BEING DON;. I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I CONTACTED GM AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TECH AT THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THAT THE LEAK IS COMING FROM THE MOLDING ON THE ROOF OF THE CAR AND WANTED TO CHARGE ME $200 FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC AFTER I CLEARLY TOLD THEM THAT THE LEAK WAS NOT COMING FROM THE ROOF OF THE CAR. THEY TOOK DOWN THE HEADLINER ANYWAY AND SAID THAT THEY DID A TEST AND WATER COULD BE SEEN GUSHING FROM THIS AREA, BUT YET MY SEAT WAS NOT WET AS I HAD TOLD THEM WHERE THE SEAT GETS WET AT. THERE ARE SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THESE MALIBU'S I JUST WANT GM TO TAKE THE CAR BACK SO THAT I CAN PURCHASE A DIFFERENT BRAND OF VEHICLE.

ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE DASH SAYS THAT MY ENGINE POWER HAS BEEN REDUCED AND LOSS OF TRACTION (?). THANKFULLY THERE WAS AN EXIT NEAR THAT I COULD GET OFF AT AND AS SOON AS I PUT MY CAR IN PARK IT STARTED TO SHAKE REAL BAD. SO I DID WHAT I DID BEFORE AND TURNED THE CAR OFF TO LET IT RESET AND THEN STARTED IT BACK UP. IT RAN FINE FOR THE REMAINDER OF MY STAY UNTIL IT CAME TIME FOR ME TO LEAVE TO GO BACK HOME. THIS TIME I ONLY GOT 20 MINUTES AWAY FROM ERIE BEFORE IT STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN, BUT IT KEPT DOING IT. TALK ABOUT BEING FRUSTRATED 4.5 HOURS AWAY FROM HOME IN YOUR CAR. 30 MINUTE DRIVE TO WORK, IN RAIN AT APPROXIMATELY 32 DEGREES, VEHICLE WAS RUNNING GOOD UNTIL I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT AND AN ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED (REDUCED ENGINE POWER). I LATER LEFT AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. I THEN RECEIVED AN ERROR MESSAGE (SERVICE ESC) AND LATER AGAIN RECEIVED THE (REDUCED ENGINE POWER) WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. IT WAS SNOWING DURING THIS TIME. I WAS UNABLE TO FULLY ACCELERATE BUT IT FELT AS THOUGH THE ACCELERATION WAS NOT RUNNING WELL. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND DISCOVERED MANY PEOPLE/ CHEVY MALIBU OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH NO RESOLUTION; EVEN AFTER TAKING TO DEALER ON MANY OCCASIONS. GM NEEDS TO RECOGNIZE THIS ISSUE AND DISCOVER A RESOLUTION.

2011 CHEVROLET MALIBU HAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WITH "HICCUPS" (TEMPORARY LOSS OF POWER) WHILE DRIVING FOLLOWED BY FLASHING WARNING LIGHT OF TRACTION CONTROL THEN FOLLOWED WITH "SERVICE ESC... SERVICE ECM... ESC OFF". SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON AND STAYED ON. BY THE TIME WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GM SERVICE THE ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT WAS OFF AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR GET A CODE BUT RECOMMENDED A NEW ECM. PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN AND RETURNED BACK TO GM SERVICE WITH SAME RESULT AND RECOMMENDATION. MY WIFE COMMUTES 1.5 HOURS PER DAY AND ALSO DRIVES OUR 3 CHILDREN TO SCHOOL EACH DAY. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE CONTINUE WITH THESE ISSUES, THE VEHICLE FINALLY STALLED COMPLETELY, ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, IN HEAVY TRAFFIC BUT WOULD EVENTUALLY START AND RUN AGAIN. SHE DID NOT FEEL SAFE AND WOULD NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR SO I DROVE THE VEHICLE ONE WEEK EACH DAY TO WORK TO WITNESS THE PROBLEMS MYSELF. EVERY SINGLE DAY WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WOULD FLASH THE SAME ERROR CODES ON EACH TRIP TO AND FROM WORK FINALLY, ON THE WAY TO THE GM SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THE VEHICLE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY TRAFFIC AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. THIS HELPED FOR A COUPLE MONTHS, PROBLEM THEN OCCURRED AGAIN, TOOK BACK INTO SHOP THEY REPLACED THE CAMPHASORS, THIS HELPED FOR A COUPLE MONTHS. THEN VEHICLE BECAME UNDRIVEABLE: RPMS WOULD DROP TO ZERO, CAR WOULD LOOSE ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING WOULD NEED TO SHUT CAR OFF & START AGAIN, SPITTING & SPUTTERING OF THE ENGINE & LOOSING POWER. TOOK VEHICLE IN THEY TESTED IT AND IT RAN CODES P0300,P0204,P0203,P0202 & P0201 THEY CONTACTED GM WHO RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE ECM. REPLACED ECM. A WEEK LATER SERVICE ESC/SERVICE TRACTION MESSAGE IS NOW APPEARING OFF AND ON AGAIN. CAR WILL SPIT & SPUTTER WHEN MESSAGE IS ON. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR & NO ONE CAN TELL ME HOW TO FIX IT??? I CAN NOT AFFORD TO HAVE MY VEHICLE IN THE SHOP EVERY WEEK WITH THE MECHANICS GUESSING AS TO WHAT WILL FIX THIS. 2011 MALIBU 2LT 3600 VVT. I HAVE MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF THE SERVICE ESC, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL & ENGINE POWER REDUCED MESSAGES APPEARING. THE LAST TIME, TODAY, ALMOST CAUSED ME TO BE REAR ENDED DUE TO THE ENGINE FLUCTUATING BETWEEN ABOUT 200 AND 1500 RPM. AFTER THE FIRST INSTANCE I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A DEALER TO HAVE RECALL #14V252000 ADDRESSED. THIS SEEMED TO SOLVE THE ISSUE BUT AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS IT ALL HAPPENED AGAIN TELLING ME THERE'S OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING ELSE WRONG. I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 CHEVROLET MALIBU AT ABOUT 40 MPH ON A FAIRLY BUSY 2 LANE STREET. WITHOUT WARNING THE CAR LOST POWER. A MESSAGE APPEARED IN THE INFORMATION SCREEN INDICATING SOMETHING LIKE "REDUCED POWER TO THE ENGINE". ALSO, A MESSAGE INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS OPERATING UNDER REDUCED POWER MODE BECAUSE I NEEDED TO SERVICE ESC, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS DISPLAYED AS WELL ON THE DASHBOARD. I WAS FORTUNATELY ABLE TO GET THE CAR PULLED OFF OF THE ROAD AND INTO A PARKING LOT. I READ THE OWNERS MANUAL AND ESSENTIALLY FOUND OUT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING IN "LIMP MODE". I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND FOUND THIS TO BE A "COMMON PROBLEM" FOR CHEVY MALIBU MODELS. MY CAR WAS, OF COURSE, OUT OF WARRANTY AND NOT COVERED UNDER ANY SORT OF RECALL, SO I HAD TO PAY ABOUT $500 FOR THE REPAIR. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS I SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING LOST POWER. HAD THIS OCCURRED WHEN TRYING TO PULL ACROSS A HEAVY INTERSECTION OR MERGING INTO TRAFFIC THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS INJURY. SINCE MARCH 2014, I HAD INSTANCES WHERE THE CHEVY MALIBU I WAS DRIVING WARNED ME ON THE DASH THAT I NEEDED TO SERVICE THE ESC. IT WOULD TELL ME ESC TURNED OFF AND TRACTION CONTROL TURNED OFF. THIS MESSAGE WOULD DISAPPEAR WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED. IT STARTED DOING IT MORE FREQUENTLY SO I CALLED GMC ON AUGUST 2ND. I HAD TO WAIT 2 WEEKS UNTIL THEY COULD GET ME IN TO THE DEALER. THIS WHOLE TIME MY CAR WAS SHUTTING OFF MY TRACTION CONTROL. THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON SOLID AND STAYED ON FOR 3 DAYS ON SEPTEMBER 12TH. THEY PAID TO DIAGNOSE AND FOUND THAT MY 4TH CYLINDER WAS MISSING AND WAS LEAKING 45%. ON SEPTEMBER 17TH, THEY SUGGESTED $140 FOR A CARBON COIL FLUSH TO SEE IF IT COULD POSSIBLE FIX THE PROBLEM. ON SEPTEMBER 25TH THEY DID THE COIL FLUSH AT 10 AM. AT 1:06 I GOT THE MESSAGE THAT ESC ACTIVE. I WENT ON A 2 WEEK VACATION AND DID NOT DRIVE MY CAR. ON OCTOBER 12TH, AT 2:08PM ESC WARNING AND SHUT TRACTION CONTROL OFF. OCTOBER 13TH, AT 5AM THE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON SOLID. ON OCTOBER 27TH, THEY REPLACE MY INTAKE/EXHAUST VALVE ON THE LEFT SIDE. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY WARNING LIGHTS SINCE THEN, BUT I DROVE FROM AUGUST TO THE END OF OCTOBER WITH THE CAR SHUTTING OFF THE TRACTION CONTROL. THEN THE ESC MESSAGE CAME UP ON MY DASHBOARD ALONG WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL SYMBOL "SERVICE TRACTION ESC."THEN MY CAR SWITCHED TO REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND I WAS ONLY ABLE TO GO 25 MPH. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND HAD TO TURN ON MY HAZARDS AND MAKE MY WAY OVER TO THE SHOULDER TO INCH MY WAY TO THE NEXT EXIT. WHEN I GOT TO THE SHOULDER THE CAR WAS SHAKING LIKE IT WOULD STALL OUT AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS MISFIRING. I SHUT MY CAR OFF AND WAITED ABOUT FIVE MINUTES. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ANOTHER 20 MILES BEFORE THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED 6 TIMES BEFORE I FINALLY MADE IT TO A MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THAT I HAD A BAD THROTTLE BODY AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. AS I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 CHEVY MALIBU HOME TO TULSA OK FROM ARKANSAS MY CAR DROPPED SPEED, I LOST MY POWER STEERING, THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT CAME ON, SERVICE TRACTION ESC LIGHT CAME ON TOO. WHEN THIS HAPPENED I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING 65 MPH AND THEN THE CAR LOST SPEED DOWN TO 15 MPH. I WAS ALMOST HIT ON THE HIGHWAY. I MADE IT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND STOPPED AT A STORE BUT COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. I MADE IT HOME BARELY AND THE NEXT MORNING MY CAR STARTED AND I'VE HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL MONDAY DEC. 22ND WHEN I WAS LEAVING WORK TO GO HOME THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I STOPPED AND TURNED MY CAR OFF FOR A LITTLE WHILE THEN WHEN I RESTARTED IT WAS FINE. HAD NO MORE PROBLEMS UNTIL CHRISTMAS EVE WHEN MY FIANCE AND I WERE HEADED TO TEXAS TO BE WITH RELATIVES. WHEN THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS DONE THERE WERE NO ISSUES FOUND IN REGARDS TO CODES BEING DISPLAYED. THIS TEST WAS NOT THE TEST THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE ACCORDING TO A GM REPRESENTATIVE SINCE THEY HAVE NO INFORMATION ON THE RECALL ITSELF, OTHER THEN WHAT WAS LISTED IN THE RECALL LETTER. MIND YOU, THE FIRST TWO INCIDENCES HAPPENED BEFORE DAYLIGHT. THE SECOND INCIDENT ALSO PUT US IN DANGER OF HAVING AN ACCIDENT AS AN 18 WHEELER WAS RIGHT BEHIND ME AS THE CAR BEGAN JERKING AND DECREASING SPEED. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO MOVE TO THE MEDIAN BEFORE I WAS SIDESWIPED. THE FIRST THREE INCIDENCES THE CAR DECREASED TO 30 MPH AND WOULD NOT INCREASE. I HAPPENED TO BE DRIVING AT A RATE OF 65MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR BEGINS SHAKING TERRIBLY, MY SPEED DROPS BACK TO 20 MPH AND LIGHTS LIGHT UP INDICATING "REDUCED ENGINE POWER", "ESC OFF", AND SOMETHING REGARDING STABILITY CONTROL SERVICE. I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 CHEVY MALIBU WAY TOO WORK , RUSH HOUR AND UNPLEASANT WEATHER. AS I WAS DRIVING THE CAR JUST SLOWED ITSELF DOWN, STARTED TO TREMBLE AND THE ;ENGINE POWER REDUCE / SERVICE TRACTION WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED SINCE CAR JUST DECIDED TO REDUCE ITS ENGINE POWER. I PULLED OVER FOR A FEW MINUTES, TURNED CAR OFF AND RESTARTED BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. CAR STARTED TO RUN SMOOTHLY, AND THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I CALLED INTO WORK AND CAUTIOUSLY DROVE CAR TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD CAR WILL NOT BE LOOKED AT TIL THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE SERVICE ATTENDANT CALLS ME THE FOLLOWING MORNING , TO TELL ME THE CAR WAS CHECKED AND NEEDS THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT AND IS NOT COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER, DUE TO IT BEING AN ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL DEFECT POSSIBLY CAUSED BY THE COLD WEATHER. I ASKED WHY WOULD THE THROTTLE BODY DEFECT , BE THE CONSUMERS FAULT; I DIDN'T KNOW CARS CANT BE OUT IN THE COLD WEATHER. SO, I DECIDED TO LOOK UP THE 2011 CHEVY MALIBU RECALLS/DEFECTS AND FOUND 22 OF 57 COMPLAINTS OVER THE SAME CAR ISSUE/PROBLEM/DEFECT. SO, I ASK; WHY HASN'T THIS BEEN PUT UP FOR A SAFETY ISSUE, A RECALL, AND HAVE THIS TAKEN CARE OF??? THIS CAN CAUSE ALOT OF ACCIDENTS! IT NEVER CAME ON AGAIN TO WARN OF SOMETHING WRONG. I CALLED CHEVROLET AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS INDIFFERENT SO I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH MY STATE'S BBB AS THIS IS THE THIRD, AND MOST SEVERE ISSUE, I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR AND I HAVE NOT HAD IT TWO YEARS QUITE YET. SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS CONSTANTLY SAY "SERVICE ESC" AND "SERVICE TRACTION". PROBLEM BEGAN WITHIN 4 MONTHS OF TAKING DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE AND IS NOW SCHEDULED FOR AT LEAST THE FIFTH TIME IN THE SHOP FOR THE EXACT SAME THING. BY THE WAY THIS VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 5,500 MILES ON IT SINCE TAKING DELIVERY OF IT MARCH 2011. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT WHEN THESE WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON, THE SYSTEMS (TRACTION CONTROL AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) ARE DISABLED. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE MECHANICAL SYSTEMS WILL CONTINUE TO WORK FINE. MY ISSUE IS THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ARE AN ENHANCED SAFETY COMPONENT OF THE VEHICLE (AND ALL VEHICLES WHICH HAS BEEN SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN) THAT ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE TO ME BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURE CAN NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. *TT

THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED FIRST IN NOVEMBER 2011. THE ENGINE STOPPED, THERE WAS NO STEERING, SERVICE ESC,THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED BUT WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN PUT IN GEAR. TODAY IS THE SECOND TIME THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED. CHEVY SAID THE PROBLEM WAS REPAIRED IN NOVEMBER, BUT NOW IT'S BACK. THE MALIBU IS BACK AT CHEVY FOR THE SECOND TIME FOR THIS PROBLEM. FROM MY WIFE: AFTER TWO PRIOR TRIPS IN THE SAME DAY (36 MILES AND 16 MILES ROUND TRIP RESPECTIVELY), MY 3RD OCCASION TO START THE CAR WAS MET WITH A GLARING WARNING MESSAGE ON THE DIGITAL DISPLAY THAT SAID "ENGINE POWER REDUCED". IT WAS FOLLOWED BY "SERVICE ESC/TRACTION CONTROL". I WAS PUZZLED BY THIS WHEN AFTER THAT BOTH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. I WAS INCREDIBLY THANKFUL TO NOT HAVE TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY, BUT HAD TO GO TO GET TO A PERFORMANCE. THE ENGINE HAD BARELY ANY POWER AND IT WAS AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS FROZEN. I HAD TO CREEP ALONG WITH DRIVERS TAILGATING ME BECAUSE I COULDN'T GO ANY FASTER THAN ABOUT 30 MPH. AS SOON AS I REACHED MY DESTINATION (ONLY 4 MILES AWAY), I CONTACTED MY HUSBAND SO HE COULD COME TO GET THE CAR WHEN HE GOT BACK FROM HIS ERRAND. FROM HUSBAND AND PRIMARY DRIVER OF CAR: I ARRIVED TO DROP OFF ANOTHER CAR FOR MY WIFE AND I EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME SCROLLING MESSAGES AND SLUGGISH RESPONSE. I CALLED ONSTAR AND THEIR DIAGNOSIS SAID TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED BECAUSE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE. WHEN I CALLED TO ARRANGE A TOW BACK TO CHEVY, I WAS TOLD THAT IT'S A BUILT IN SAFETY FEATURE OF THE CAR SO THAT DRIVERS CAN'T INADVERTENTLY DO MORE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. TODAY THE BROOKDALE CHEVROLET (MN) DEALER SAID THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THAT I COULD EITHER PICK THE CAR UP, OR THEY WOULD KEEP IT ONE MORE DAY TO SEE IF THEY COULD "REPLICATE" THE PROBLEM TO IDENTIFY AND FIX THE ISSUE. I TOLD THEM I COULD NOT KEEP A CAR THAT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IF MY WIFE OR I HAD BEEN DRIVING IN THIS VEHICLE AT HIGH SPEEDS WHEN THE ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED, IT COULD HAVE HAD THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM FURTHER. I PURCHASED A 2011 MALIBU FROM CHAMPION CHEVROLET IN AUSTIN, TX IN NOVEMBER 2010. THE CAR WAS DELIVERED TO ME WITH A KNOWN DEFECTIVE EBCM (ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE). THEY HAD THE PART ON ORDER AND DIDN'T TELL ME. I FOUND OUT A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER WHEN I HAD A TRACTION CONTROL FAILURE INDICATION AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WOULD CONTINUE TO FAIL UNTIL THE MODULE WAS REPLACED. THE MODULE WAS REPLACED AND STILL HAD A TRACTION CONTROL/ABS FAILURE. LATER I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE CONNECTOR ON THE EBCM HAD A PUSHED PIN FROM THE MODULE REPLACEMENT. THE CAR WAS KEPT THERE A WEEK LOOKING FOR THE TRACTION CONTROL/ABS FAILURE AND A HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED. THIS LEFT THE BRAKES FEELING SOFT/MUSHY..MORE TRAVEL. TRIED TO GET A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE BUT DEALER WOULDN'T HELP ME UNLESS I WAS WILLING TO TAKE A $6000 LOST ON THE MONTH OLD MALIBU. COMPLAINED TO GM BUT ALL THEY SAID WAS THAT THE DEALER FIXED THE CAR. OFFERED SOME OIL CHANGES. IN JANUARY DECIDED TO GO AHEAD AND TAKE HIT ON THIS MALIBU AND BECAUSE OF CURRENT INCENTIVES TRADED IT FOR ANOTHER MALIBU. *TR
