Received vehicle at roughly 181,000 miles. Operated fine for about 5,000 miles and then began to show problems. In most cases when pressing down hard on the accelerator pedal, transmission drops into a lower gear and revs up to 5k rpm, cancelling cruise control, and staying there until accelerator is relieved. This makes accelerating more difficult since too much pressure on the accelerator pedal causes the car to get stuck at 5k rpm and stay at the same speed it is already at. This makes passing cars more dangerous as the car gets stuck at 5k rpm and can't pass the other vehicle, increasing the risk of a head on collision. Service engine and ABS lights are on as well as a service Stabilitrak notification in the driver information center. In addition, the outside temperature thermometer is faulty and shows much lower temperatures, such as -14 degrees during an 80 degree day. Vehicle is up to maintenance as far as my knowledge goes. Car has been previously junked twice and has a rebuilt title. There are no fluid leaks, the engine works well when the problem is not encountered, but it gets stuck at 5k rpm under hard acceleration more than it doesn't.

Automatic Start/Stop feature is faulty! When it activates, it prevents the engine from restarting for several minutes. This puts myself and others in my car at a major risk of getting in an accident. I have so far been lucky and avoided any accidents. Several thousand has ben spent to try and fix the issue, with no luck.

The headlights burn out frequently the air conditioner does not work the ignition had to be replaced there's always a code of p0171 the start/stop feature does not work the brakes make the car shake. When does stuff takes place I have to pull the vehicle over cousin me to put others in danger by being on the shoulder of the road broke down. Yes the car is available for inspection. The radio randomly turns on and off therefore the backup camera does not work as it should why this vehicle has not been recalled is beyond me.

This is now the THIRD time this has happened, and GM doesn't seem to care, because when my mechanic "fixed" my auto stop problem, it was because GM themselves got the code to "fix" my car. My auto stop worked one time, before today, after my repair last week. I was at a stop light where my auto stop turned on. My brakes WERE STUCK AND COULDN'T BRAKE so I put it in park! THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE WHEEL AND BRAKE LOCKING OCCURRED. GM FIX THIS!

I am filing a complaint regarding a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu that I purchased from a dealership on November 22, 2024. The vehicle was advertised as being in “excellent condition” at the dealership’s site. During the test drive, I raised concerns about potential transmission issues, but the dealership assured me that the vehicle was “clean” and safe to drive. Unfortunately, this assurance turned out to be false, as the vehicle has since displayed significant mechanical failures, including overheating issues, that pose serious safety risks. Within a week of purchase, the vehicle broke down twice: first on November 29, while driving to work, and again on November 30, while on I-10 Katy freeway. The second breakdown created a life-threatening situation as the vehicle suddenly lost power in traffic. I incurred towing costs of $125 to return the vehicle to the dealership. After an attempted repair, the vehicle was returned to me on December 5, 2024. However, it broke down again on December 8, 2024, requiring another tow. Since that time, the vehicle has remained at the dealership, yet no adequate resolution has been provided. Additionally, I have since discovered that the vehicle has persistent overheating issues that were not disclosed at the time of sale. These overheating problems pose a serious safety risk as they could result in a fire or explosion, endangering my life and the lives of others on the road. The dealership’s negligence in addressing these critical safety concerns demonstrates a disregard for consumer safety. I believe the dealership knowingly sold me a defective vehicle with significant mechanical issues that were either hidden or misrepresented. The sudden and repeated breakdowns, particularly in hazardous driving conditions, and the risk of fire or explosion due to overheating, warrant immediate attention from the NHTSA.

The transmission not engaging after a complete stop like it is neutral this only happens after the car has been driven a bit everything at temp. today stopped for trash service auto stop engaged got ready to go nothing gunning and gunning never died like no power though finally moved no more stops till home a problem sitting in road can not move. have not taken to shop yet money for it now not.

When the Auto Start/Stop engages at a stop sign or light it causes the car to turn off. I have trouble turning it back over. Sometimes it starts. Other times it does not. I have changed the mass airflow sensor, mass air pressure sensor, vvt solenoid. It has been in and out of a couple shops without an answer of why it is doing this. It is readily available for an inspection. There were not any warning lights or messages produced on the dash. This started happening about 3 months ago. My child and myself is in danger every time it dies at a stop light.

While driving 60 MPH on the highway my car started stuttering then lost all power. It threw 3 codes P0131, P2097 and P0171. I have spent over $1,000.00 and a month later they tell me it was my intake bolts that were loose. They replaced every part PCV valve, MAF sensor, O2 sensor and car still wouldn't run right. PLEASE address this issue as that is UNSAFE for a car to just stop on the highway.

At first it would stop then be hesitant to start back up then 6 months later it completely would stall at lights and stop signs. Now the aux battery is draining my main battery and I’ve had to tow my car 3 times because I’ve been left stranded. I’m now in that same predicament and it’s 2/26/24

6 months ago our car’s auto stop/start feature started to malfunction. The car will stall and sputter on the start after coming to a stop. This is very dangerous! On multiple occasions, the car would not accelerate through a turn on a light stalling out in the intersection. we have also been nearly rear-ended at red lights because the vehicle will not accelerate on a green light. This issue is well discussed on the Internet with many owners reporting the same issue. Chevrolet should be held accountable for this repair. This is not an isolated event with my vehicle.

When I stop my auto stop kicks in and when I take my foot off the brake my car rolls up a little and ends up dying. I have to turn it off and start it up giving it gas to get it going. There have been a couple instances when making a left turn I have almost gotten hit. I am no longer comfortable driving my car. There are several people posting about it online but no reason or fix for it as far as I know of. I have called the dealer and if course they want me to bring it in but I have no money for someone to go on a wild goose chase with my car. I think this should be something Chevrolet needs to figure out.

The automatic start and stop function does not work properly. When the car comes to a stop and auto stops, the vehicle shuts off and does not power up when you hit the gas. My safety is put at risk due to the car shutting off and the possibility of someone hitting me. The vehicle has been inspected countless times. I was told it was an electrical issue. Then told it was the battery. Brand new battery and issue isn’t fixed. The car cut off once and all the lights came on. Now no lights comes on it just cuts off.

After restarting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local service center who diagnosed that the intake cam shift solenoid control circuit and the variable valve solenoid intake and the variable valve solenoid exhaust were faulty and needed to be replaced. The intake cam shift solenoid control circuit, variable valve solenoid intake, and variable valve solenoid exhaust were replaced but the failure recurred with the cold start engine rattling noise and loss of power failure persisting. The vehicle was later taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000.

My 2014 Chevrolet Malibu has been shutting off quite frequently in traffic. Causing danger to my family and to other motorist by this malfunction. I have taken it to my local GM dealership for this to be resolve but to no success and charge for the service. I have also spoken with GM corporation but to no avail. I have researched this problem with compliance with this make and model this seem like an issue that GM should investigate. But I would like to keep driving my vehicle. The AutoStop/Start feature malfunctioned while at a busy intersection. The AutoStop engaged but failed to start the engine, once pressure was released from the brake pedal. This has been an issue for about a year now. I have replaced both batteries, both VVT sensors, and the oil pressure sensor in the last year, thinking this would solve the issue. This vehicle has not been inspected by a mechanic, just scanned with a handheld scanner at a parts store, every time there is a check engine indicator light on. There are no dash indicators when this malfunctions, I just have to turn the vehicle completely off, or pump the accelerator in order for it to start.

The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the failure was associated with the battery. However, the battery was not replaced. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle would not properly shift into gear, decelerated independently, and stopped. The contact was able to restart the vehicle however, upon moving the gear shifter into drive(D), the vehicle failed to respond. The contact then moved the gear shifter to park(P) however, the vehicle rolled away and struck a tree. The air bags did not deploy. There was no injury sustained. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The vehicles "Auto Off" feature, which shuts the engine off when stopped at red-lights, fails to restart the engine when removing your foot from the brake pedal. The engine stalls out, and much be parked, shut off and then restarted. Sometimes it takes multiple times to restart the vehicle. This is very unsafe considering the car could stall out in an intersection or cause another vehicle to collide with mine if they were behind my vehicle, expecting it to begin moving. I have take my car in for multiple repairs and nobody can figure out the issue.

My auto start/stop feature failed to engage properly. The safety of myself and my family have been put at risk on multiple occasions because the vehicle would not start back up leaving us stranded in the road amongst traffic. The problem has not been diagnosed or inspected. There were no warnings as to when the auto start/stop would fail, it just happens! At the moment this is the only vehicle my family has so we have to take risks any time we drive this vehicle! I purchased this car 4/26/2022 and this has happened at least 10 times since purchasing!!! Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!!!!

The Auto Stop would engage and then when I put my foot on the accelerator, it stalled out. I would turn the vehicle off and restart it. I took it to countless mechanics who could not figure out what was causing the problem because the Check Engine light did not come on and no codes were triggered. The problem became worse over time and once the vehicle stalled, it would not immediately restart. I took it to my Chevy Dealer and they can’t figure it out .

It started off with just a little jerking when I would be in stop and go traffic then it progressed to whenever I was driving below 35mph, the car would completely cut off and the doors would unlock. The check engine light came on and I took it to be repaired. They stated there was a hole in my exhaust which a GM service employee repaired. Two days later the check engine light came on again and this time they stated I needed a new transmission. So I took it to a transmission company, who installed a rebuilt transmission. A few days after getting my car back, the same issue happened again. The transmission company did a diagnostic and stated it wasn't the transmission so I took it back to a GM service place and they stated it was my manifold. I paid for the repairs and the vehicle worked fine until the beginning of April 2022. Now the vehicle is doing the exact same thing expect this time the doors are not unlocking when the car cuts off. A new thing has started where the car shakes when I sit with my foot on the break for too long such as at a traffic light, once I take my foot off the break to accelerate it will jerk or turn completely off. Today, I was trying to do a U-turn and the car just stopped working almost like it was in neutral then the steering wheel locked up.

2014 Chevy Malibu has a start/ stop feature that doesn't work. When stopping the car shuts off completely and does not start back up. I have to put my emergency lights on, put the car in park try to start again, it doesn't restart , I have to try a couple of times. It has cut off on me at traffic lights, getting off highway ramps. THIS IS NOT SAFE!! I've taken it to two Chevy dealers & no one can pin point or address this problem.

2014 Malibu lt with the auto stop issues. My auxiliary batter was replaced and everything was good until my engine light came on can’t even remember exactly but the code was for the rocker arm control valve and oil pressure sensor. I replaced vvt solenoid also the intake and exhaust solenoid. Shortly after that, maybe 2 months or so after was when the auto stop started having issues. After the suto stop is engaged and my foot comes off the brake, it fails to restart after two failed attempts. I’ll manually restart it and it might start right away but sometimes wont start until the 2nd or 3rd try

My car is throwing a rocker arm valve code but chevy is saying its not covered under the NHTSA program that was passed. Its a 2014 chevy malibu 2.5 L with 93000 miles on it. It causes the auto stop to malfunction and the car will completely shut down when stopped. It will not restart at all. Have been almost hit 3 times at major intersections.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE CONTACT WAS RELATING THE FAILURE TO AN ISSUE WITH THE BOLTS IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD BEING LOOSENED WHICH ALLOWED AIR TO GET INTO THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE SPARK PLUGS AND THE TRUNK BATTERY NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.

WHEN START STOP WAS ENGAGED AT LIGHT THE CAR SHUT OFF EVERYTHING ON THE DASH AND RADIO WENT BLANK. IT AUTO STARTED AND AC WAS NO LONGER WORKING. AFTERWARDS I SMELLED A SLIGHT BURNING SCENT (IN LOUISIANA TRAFFIC, I WAS UNSURE IT WAS ME) BUT CAR RAN FINE. WHEN START STOP ENGAGED THERE WAS A LONGER THAN NORMAL PAUSE BEFORE WOULD AUTO START WOULD ENGAGE. IT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY FAIL TO CRANK ON OCCASION FOR A FEW KEY TURNS. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TRUNK WOULD MYSTERIOUSLY POP OPEN. STARTED DISPLAYING TWO KEY FOBS PROGRAMMED, ABS STABLE TRACK, REDUCED ENGINE POWER, LOW BATTERY AND ANOTHER THING I CAN'T REMEMBER AT START UP. I CHANGED THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR WITH NEW ONES AND THE NEXT DAY THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FLICKERED AS WELL AS HEAD LIGHTS. AND WHEN I WAS TO TAKE IT IN TO DEALERSHIP IT HAD COMPLETE ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THE ENGINE FUSE BLOCK AND REPLACED IT. NOW THE ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON AND HAS A PAUSE BEFORE IT START. WILL NOT SEND DIAGNOSTICS TO MY CHEVY APP. REMOTE START IS NOT WORKING WITH ENG LIGHT ON. I TOLD THEM I THOUGHT IS WAS BATTERY CONTROL MODULE BUT HE INSISTED THAT IT WAS JUST THE ENGINE FUSE BLOCK. I CANNOT EXPLAIN THE ANXIETY. AND HAVE TOLD MY FAMILY THAT IF I DIE IN THAT CAR TO SUE GM. THERE SHOULD BE NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS CAR AT 6 YEARS OLD. 53000 MILES AND IS DRIVEN LESS THAN 50 MILES A WEEK.

THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW, ONCE FOR MY WIFE AND THE SECOND TIME I WAS DRIVING. BOTH INCIDENTS HAPPENED WHILE IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE DISPLAY SHOWED REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND THE VEHICLE DE-RATED AND SLOWED AUTOMATICALLY ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISPLAYED AND AFTER CONNECTING A CODE READER TO THE OBD AND CODE P2138 WAS LOGGED WHICH IS POTENTIALLY A FAULTY THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR/ FOOT GAS PEDAL. I REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR CLEARED THE STORED CODE AND A COUPLE WEEKS LATER THE VEHICLE AGAIN WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND DE-RATED ON HIGHWAY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SAME CODE P2138 WAS LOGGED INDICATING VOLTAGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN APP SENSOR 1 AND APP SENSOR 2 OF THE THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH ON LINE I FOUND THAT A GM SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED FOR POTENTIAL MOISTURE INTRUSION OF THE CONNECTORS FROM THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR TO THE ECM. (SEE ATTACHED) IT SEEMS LIKE MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING MOISTURE IN THE CONNECTORS AS BOTH INCIDENTS HAPPENED WITHIN MINUTES OF TAKING THE VEHICLE THROUGH AN AUTOMATIC CAR WASH. IN MY OPINION THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR THIS MODEL VEHICLE TO DE-RATE AND SLOW DOWN SUDDENLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH CARS FOLLOWING BEHIND AND HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE BY GM AND SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ISSUED.

CAME TO A STOP AT A STOP LIGHT AUTO STOP CAME ON. WHEN LET OFF THE BRAKE THE AUTO START DID NOT START. IT TRIED TO THEN COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. ON 7/5/20 THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP MOUNTED ON THE ENGINE BROKE LOSE, DROPPED INTO THE ENGINE AND TORE APART THE ENGINE. WAS TOWED AND FIXED BY CLOSEST GM DEALERSHIP (DEERY BROTHERS, WEST BURLINGTON, IA). THERE IS A RECALL FOR A BAD WELD ON THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FOR 2016-2018 MALIBU'S RESULTING IN THE EXACT ISSUE I HAD ON MY 2014. THE DEALERSHIP SAID GM, CHEVROLET AND THE DEALERSHIP (WHICH IS A GM CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED IN 2018) SAID THEY ALL BARED NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE. I PAID $3,128 FOR THE REPAIR ON 7/17/20. TWO DAYS AFTER BRINGING MY CAR HOME, THERE IS AN OIL LEAK THAT WAS NEVER THERE BEFORE. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THIS IS A HOLE IN THE OIL PAN, AND AGAIN IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR IN FULL TO BE FIXED. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET ON 7/16/20 SAYING THERE IS A RECALL FOR MY VIN # FOR AN OIL PRESSURE VALVE. INCORRECT OIL PRESSURE COULD HAVE CAUSED THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP TO EXPLODE CAUSING THE ISSUE ON 7/9/20. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT BETWEEN THE TWO RECALLS ISSUED BY CHEVROLET FOR MY CAR MODEL I SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FULL WEIGHT OF THE REPAIRS ON A CAR THAT WAS PURCHASED CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WITH A WARRANTY TWO YEARS PRIOR, NOT TO MENTION I'VE HAD ALL REGULAR SERVICES DONE IN A TIMELY MATTER AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP, THAT HAS UNDER 90,000 MILES AND IS ONLY SIX YEARS OLD. ENGINE CODE P16D0 CAUSING A VALVE THAT CONTROLS AIR TO OIL INTAKE FOR THE MOTOR IS STUCK OPEN CAUSING IN ACCURATE OIL PRESSURE. THIS HAPPENS WHEN IN MOTION. TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE WOULD MOST LIKELY CAUSE EXTREME ENGINE FAILURE AND IMPROPER GAS MILEAGE. AFTER CHECKING THE CODE AND REPLACING THE "AFFECTED" PARTS, THE LIGHT IS STILL NOT CLEARED AS IT CREATES MORE ISSUES WITHIN THE MOTOR. THE DEALER IS NOT ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE ISSUE AND IS CHARGING AN ABSURD AMOUNT OF MONEY JUST TO ATTEMPT TO FIX THE ISSUE WITH OUT ANY GUARANTEES. THERE ARE ALSO AN ABUNDANCE OF SIMILAR SITUATIONS AND IT ALL OCCURS ONCE THESE VEHICLES GET TO 100,000 MILES. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND I BELIEVE THE MANUFACTURE SHOULD CORRECT SUCH AN ISSUE AS MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN EXPERIANCING THE ISSUE.

ON 11/19/19, I WAS DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET (25 MPH) WHEN THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2014 CHEVY MALIBU. THE CAR IS DRIVEABLE, BUT AT SPEEDS HIGHER THAN 35 MPH, THE REDUCED POWER IS NOTICEABLE. I IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP (MATTHEWS HARGREAVES CHEVROLET IN ROYAL OAK, MI) FOR REPAIR. THEY IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS BEING THE ROCKER ARM SOLENOID VALVE, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX IT BECAUSE GM IS NOT CURRENTLY MAKING THE PART AND IT IS UNAVAILABLE THROUGH AFTERMARKET. FOR NEARLY A MONTH, I HAVE BEEN STUCK WITH A CAR THAT IS ONLY BARELY USABLE. ON COLDER DAYS, MY CAR HAS A MORE DIFFICULT TIME WITH EVEN HANDLING LOW SPEEDS AND I'M TERRIFIED THAT IT'S GOING TO BECOME COMPLETELY INOPERABLE BEFORE THIS IS FIXED. THE DEALERSHIP I TOOK IT TO CURRENTLY HAS 6 VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT ARE IN NON-DRIVEABLE CONDITION. REPLACED AUX BATTERY UNDER WARRANTY. ANOTHER CODE POPPED UP..THIS WAS A SENSOR; REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. NOV 2018, AGAIN, CODE 305F. ANOTHER AUX BATTERY REPLACED. HERE WE ARE, DEC 2019, CODE 305F. DEALERSHIP STATES SINCE WE'VE REPLACED WITH A GEL BATTERY AND BOTH BATTERIES ARE READING GOOD BUT RECHARGE, THAT IT IS THE COMPUTER MODULE ON TOP OF THE BATTERY WHICH CONTROLS THE AUTO STOP/START AND THE REMOTE START. IN THE ALMOST 5 YEARS I HAVE HAD MY CAR, IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR THIS PROBLEM MORE THAN 3 TIMES NOW AND 2 TIMES FOR HUB ASSEMBLY THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE OUT AT THE LOW MILEAGE OF 42K. THERE IS A CLEAR PROBLEM WITH THIS 305F AND THE HUB ASSEMBLY AS CHEVY HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE 305F AND MANY CHEVY MALIBU OWNERS HAVE MADE SEVERAL HUNDRED COMPLAINTS ACCORDING TO ONLINE SOURCES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE CAR WILL "DIE"(SHUT OFF COMPLETELY) WHILE AT A STOP SIGN OR LIGHT WHICH COULD RESULT IN A REAR END.THIS CAR, ALONG WITH THE OTHER 2014-2015 ARE BEING TREATED AS THOUGH THERE IS NO PROBLEM. I'M SICK OF SPENDING $140.00 ON AN AUX BATTERY AND WASTING TIME FOR SOMETHING THAT THEY KNOW IS WORTHY OF A RECALL BUT ARE TO CHEAP OR JUST DON'T CARE ABOUT THE BUYER. AS I WRITE THIS, I AM SITTING AT STERLING MCCALL CHEVROLET IN HOUSTON FOR THE WONDERFUL 305F CODE. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! I WAS TOLD THAT THE AUXILIARY BATTERY WAS BAD, AND HAD IT REPLACED. THE CAR IT WORKED WELL. IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR THE CAR ENGINE BEGAN SHUTTING OFF, WHILE I WAS DRIVING, AND SOMETIMES AFTER IT WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT. I HAD THE BATTERIES CHECKED, AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE BAD. I LIVE IN AZ, AND THE WEATHER HERE IS VERY HOT, BOTH WERE REPLACED ON AUGUST 27TH AND 28TH, LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AGO, WITH TWO NEW BATTERIES. THE CAR WORKED WELL UP UNTIL THIS EVENING, WHEN IT SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY AS I WAS DRIVING INTO MY YARD. ALL THE LIGHTS CAME OFF, AND I CANNOT GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND THE CAR IS ABLE TO SWITCH GEARS AND LIGHTS COME ON INT HE DASH AS NORMAL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS WHILE ITS IN THIS DEAD STATE AND ONCE IT CRANKS UP AS NORMAL THE LIGHT GOES OFF. MY CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED ON TIME EVERY TIME IN DEALERSHIP AND WAS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. ON 10TH JUNE 2014, MY ENGINE JUST STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH SPEED LIMIT OF 70 MPH. THE MECHANIC AT DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE NUMBER 4 VALE HAS THROWN A ROD (BASICALLY PISTON HAS BROKEN) INSIDE THE CYLINDER AND ENGINE IS COMPLETELY DAMAGED. HE SAID THIS SHOULD HAPPEN AT 59,000 MILES (MY CAR MILEAGE) . I FOUND TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THE ISSUE AND I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT BECAUSE OF THE SEVERITY OF THE ISSUE NHTSA SHOULD CONSIDER PUTTING THIS UNDER RECALL. WIRING HARNESS TO WHEELS, THE DEALER SHIP HAD TO SPLICE ( I STILL CANT SEE HOW WIRING HARNESS IS NOT A COVERED COMPONENT. FOR A MANUFACTURE BASED OUT OF A STATE THAT HAS SNOW, AND TO PROVIDE A VEHICLE THAT HAS A STABILITY SENSOR THAT GETS DIRTY BECAUSE OF SALT THAT WILL ERROR IS BEYOND MY COMPREHENSION. SAME FOR THE DEFAULT WHEEL BEARINGS ONE WINTER IN MICHIGAN AND THEY HAD TO BE REPLACED (ALSO NOT A COVERED FEATURE). TRIM THAT BLOWS OFF ON THE EXPRESS WAY. HAVE APPOINTMENT WITH DEALERSHIP TO BE RIPPED OFF SOME MORE....APPT SHOWED A P011 CODE, SECOND TIME IN SHOP TO HAVE IT FIXED. UPDATE: MONTHS LATER, ABS ON THE DRIVERSIDE HUB IS NOW OUT. YES YOU GUESSED IT THE P011 ENGINE CODE IS BACK. (THIRD TIME). FIXED TWICE AT THE SHOP. WHEN IS SOMEONE GOING TO MAKE GM WAKE UP AND FIX THESE ISSUES. IT JUST LIKE MY KEY ISSUE WITH MY 2004 IMPALA . THE DRIVER RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND BEGAN TO HESITATE. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, IT SEEMED AS IF IT WOULD STALL AT ANY MOMENT. THE CONTACT RAN ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC TEST, WHICH RESULTED IN THE SAME FAILURE MESSAGE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIR. THE CAR RPM WILL GET STUCK AROUND 3000 IF I'M CRUISING AND PRESS THE BRAKES TO DECELERATE WHICH HAS CAUSED ME SEVERAL TIME TO HAVE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF OFF THE ROAD SO THAT I DON'T HIT ANYTHING. IN ORDER TO MAKE IT STOP I HAVE TO PRESS BRAKES THEN PRESS THE GAS TO MAKE THE RPM ACT RIGHT. I JUST PURCHASED A 2014 MALIBU ON 04- 22 FOR MY DAUGHTER. DUE TO MY DAUGHTER TELLING ME THAT THE BRAKES FELT MUSHY IN HER CAR I DECIDED TO TEST DRIVE IT MYSELF. WHILE DRIVING DOWN MY STREET AT APPROX. 25MPH WITH THE BRAKE SLIGHTLY DEPRESSED, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED UNEXPECTEDLY AND THE ENGINE SEEM TO REV UP. THIS MADE THE VEHICLE THAT MUCH HARDER TO CONTROL AND STOP. THIS HAS TO BE LOOKED INTO A.S.A.P. I DO NOT WANT MY DAUGHTER TO CONTINUE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE UNTIL THERE IS A SOLUTION. AS I WAS DRIVING AND COME TO A STOP LIGHT, MY VEHICLE CUT OFF AND ONCE I LET OFF THE BRAKE, TO GO, THE CAR STARTED BACK WITHOUT ME DOING ANYTHING. WHEN I WAS AT THE DRIVE THRU WINDOW, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND I WAS STILL IN DRIVE MODE, THE CAR CUT OFF, AND WHEN I LET OF THE BRAKE SLIGHTLY THE VEHICLE STARTED ALL BY ITSELF. BOTH INCIDENTS HAPPENED A WEEK APART. *TR
