I am reporting a recurring safety defect related to GM’s known “Shift to Park” issue. My vehicle displays a “Shift to Park” warning even when the vehicle is already in park, preventing the car from shutting off properly and creating a safety risk. This issue has been widely reported and associated with GM recalls and service bulletins. GM previously repaired this issue once while my vehicle was under warranty, acknowledging it as a known defect. The same defect has now reoccurred after the warranty period expired. GM is refusing to repair it again, despite the issue being recall-related and tied to a known defective design rather than wear and tear. This defect affects safe vehicle operation, risks battery drain, rollaway hazards, and driver distraction. I believe this is an unresolved safety defect that should be covered regardless of warranty status.

The engine power reduced came light came on along with service stability trac. The car would stall after going into auto stop and just shut off. In certain instances it would shutoff when slowed down enough. It was brought in for service where the turbo charge solenoid starter and catalytic converter annd alternator all were replaced due to the turbo braking into pieces and being lodged into the converter and engine. Less than a week later the car returned to stalling at the auto stop feature. When brought in for service it was linked to the alternator and engine control module and mass air flow sensor. The car was then serviced again six months later for the alternator again. Now the car is once again stuck in engine power reduced with no direct codes linked to the problem and the starter was replaced and now the engine is remaining in limp mode. The car has stalled multiple times on not only at stop lights but on the highway and while turning at busy intersections causing traffic jams and even a side collision. The engine light as remained on since the day I got the car.

Engine power reduced defect, causing affected models to lose power while driving at highway speeds. My son’s was driving 55 mph and then all of sudden the car decelerated to 20 mph in minutes before his 2016 Malibu stalled on [XXX]. Unfortunately the car did not make it to the emergency lane and as a result a SUV hit his car killing my daughter who was 33 weeks pregnant. The baby survived with lifelong injuries. Despite this recall, GM failed to notify vehicle owners, including the owner of the vehicle involved in the fatal accident on [XXX], in Dallas, Texas, resulting in my daughter’s death. This defect has been found in several 2016 Malibus, prompting a class action lawsuit against GM. Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit reported having to restart their vehicles or replace faulty accelerator pedal position sensors to address the issue. The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost power. Additionally, the message “Engine Power Reduced" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed and determined that the throttle body sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 107,000.

Happened around 46000 miles after receiving a recall notice in the mail about the pedal positioning sensor causing a reduced engine power signal, and immediately reducing speeds on the interstate. Local Chevy dealership replaced. Fast-forward 80K miles and the same incident is happening, however likely not going to be covered by GM. Same message, same code being detected.

On may 23,2024 I was on a very busy highway going 66. All of a sudden my 2016 malibu lt aburtely slowed to 27 miles an hour and two warnings lights came on 1 -engine power is reduced 2 - speed reduced to 27 I barely avoided getting hit by two semi trucks, as well as a car. The car is available for inspection on request. An independent service person confirmed it was indeed a defective electron control and acceleration peddle position sensor. How very irresponsible of you not to put out a recall on the 2016-2018 models knowing very well of the many class action law suits that have arrived from this issue. I probably can guarantee none of you own a Malibu. How very incredious it is that you put people lives in danger knowing that there was issues with the problem. Unbelievable. I almost got killed because of the lack of responsibility because you dint make a recall.

Out of nowhere, a notification pops up and it says “engine speed reduced” and all of a sudden you can feel the car losing speed. Took the vehicle to the dealership multiple times and either they always say it’s a fuel injection problem or they have no idea what’s causing it but when they perform that service on the vehicle, it still happens. Dealership even told me once that my car computer system needed to be updated and once updated I wouldn’t have the issue and I still have the issue. Each time the engine speed is reduced, a notification pops up that the StabiliTrak needs to be serviced. My safety and life is at risk because I’m going 65 mph down the interstate and all of sudden my engine speed is reduced like I’m not in the middle of traffic with cars going at speeds between 60-75 mph. I almost got ran over by an 18 wheeler because of the engine speed reduction. I had to swerve hard to the side of the road and risk flipping or crashing to get off the road so I wouldn’t be hit

Vehicle check Engine light on, showing "Reduced Engine Power." Vehicle still able to be driven, but will not accelerate with any proper pace or power. Cannot get above 3000 RPM without losing power, has put me in two dangerous situations in the last two days that almost made me lose my life. On highway, trying to accelerate to match traffic speeds, lose power and had to dive to the emergency lane to not get plowed by a truck. Today, was city driving, at a red light, could not accelerate and had to dive to a crawl the vehicle into a turn lane where I ended up sitting for about 10 minutes till the engine offered enough power to keep driving. By all information I can find online, it seems it is similar to the issues presented by others online and might tie into "Special Coverage N182188250 Loss of Continuity within Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Circuit" that I found here: [XXX] , this issue has been going for about 3 weeks to a month and is only getting worse. I did stop at McCarthy Chevrolet of Overland Park to have codes run about on [XXX], the codes showing do not show in the above link...codes: U1502, U0422, P06DE, C0760...those all present on the paper as "Current." I have not had it diagnosed yet, planning to, service is just so expensive. I have had the car in my car for 1 year and 1 month, purchased from MAX Motors in Harrisonville, Mo. Reporting here as I also saw online that others are facing the same symptoms, and that there is a suit that might be addressing these issues: [XXX] Every time the car is turned on, the warning mentioned above shows. When driving the car it will stop mid drive and slow to 20MPH. The car has broken down in the middle of the road on multiple occasions. It has locked me in the car where I am unable to get out. On one occasion the battery was dead and the car had locked me out. I had to have someone unlock it. The next day the car was fine with no signs of issues. The car has been taken to multiple mechanics and no one knows the issue. Car doesn’t throw any codes or show any symptoms of issues.

While driving at a fast pace a hazard message pops up on dash that states engine power reduced and the car goes slow unable to accelerate past 20 mph. It doesn’t happen all the time but it’s been happening quite frequently and it’s dangerous. I’m assuming there has something to do with the speed and or fuel function. The vehicle has not been inspected. I am willing to bring it for inspection if needed. I feel like this is a malfunction and I’m requesting this to be fixed.

I was driving about 70mph on a highway trying to pass a semi-truck. As I signaled right blinker to merge back into the right lane, the speed reduced to 40mph without notice. I then seen a notification on the dashboard saying "Engine Power Reduced". The car would not accelerate fast enough to clear the truck therefore almost causing a collision of 2 semi-trucks and myself. I was forced to drive off road to help avoid the collision. My fiancé was in the passenger seat when this happened on 11/25/2023. He then began telling me this happened to him a few months prior but he didn't mention it because it resolved itself. This was actually the 3rd time it had happened in this car over the last 2 years. I spoke to the chevy dealership about it the first time I experienced this and they advised that it had not been made a safety recall at that time yet, but the technician who helped me said his son experienced the same thing and it was becoming quite common. It still has not been recalled but there is currently a class action lawsuit because of this. I feel this is very dangerous and what I considered to be reliable transportation, is no longer the case for my family after this experience. This needs to be recalled immediately before people lose lives. Especially since the parts were Manufactured incorrectly and Chevrolet had knowledge prior to releasing 2016-2018 vehicles.

My 2016 Chevy Malibu that does not have many miles on it is shifting into, Reduced Engine Power Mode. When this comes on I cannot accelerate up to speeds and can only go about 25 MPH. It is dangerous that my car can go from highway speeds to this slow. I have had 0 issues before this started happening and other Malibus have been recalled for this same issue.

When driving the car and when stopping at either a stop sign or stop light, turning a corner the car will lose power and will not go for at least 10-15 seconds. when letting the brakes go and pressing the gas pedal the car does not move, pressing all the way on the gas pedal the car will take about 10-15 seconds before moving. It’s like the engine lose power and the car will not accelerate.

Lights that alert inside the vehicle at random times but more often in the last few months are: stability trek, power steering reduced and check engine. Acceleration decreased/reduced after being idle. This prompts serious danger for myself and children when there is no power being given to the car when sitting in traffic. Multiple mechanics have diagnosed the issue. Dealership gives me the run around and isn't specific with detail if check light engine goes off.

UNKNOWN the air bag on my dash board come on and off ALL THE TIME even if I have no one sitting in my passenger seat.I got this vehicle for the winter thinking it was going to help me save gas and be a good reliable car for my daily routine to work, school, and my kids school. But it’s definitely the opposite. I’m struggling financially and In a hole now the engine light is on and I can’t get to my destination without going more then 30-40mph because “engine speed reduce” appears on my dash board and reduced the speed and not only is this inconvenient and annoying but also dangerous I dam almost got into accident because of this I was driving in the highway about 65-70 mph when this happen with a 18-wheeler behind me not only was my daughter’s life and mine put in danger. But the person driving the 18-wheeler. He definitely lost somewhat the control to swerve my vehicle it was a miracle of god no other cars where next to us and that nothing happened.their is so many 2016 Chevrolet malibu like this that I hope from the bottom of my heart that their is some compassion for this issue where they can make the issue get recalled. To help people like me I’m struggling to make ends meet day to day and I have forcefully have to keep using my car on the daily. I have no other transportation. And like i said not only for my safety but everyone around I am not the only one with this issue if the make in model. Their is hundreds of us !

1. The car when s parked the electronic system does not recognize this and the electronics of the car remain on. Draining the battery and sometimes taking several attempts or more at having to restart the car, shifting through gears in order to get the car to properly turn off. 2. I have been driving down the highway doing approximately 65-75 mph and the car out of no where, with no other cars around has slammed on the breaks and decreased in speed instantly. This has happened twice. 3. Stabilitrak light has come on several times, car violently shakes while ideling. I have already had to replace a piston in the engine. At the time the car was at about 50,000 miles. It is now at 75, 000 and still happens every so often.

When the vehicle is in drive, the display will say "reduced engine power" and will drop the car to 25mph even on the highway. I've almost wrecked from this issue. I've seen where GM has had class actions on this prior but it was never recalled.

When I accelerate, it hesitates to pick up speed. Once I made it to 75mph, a warning message came on that said engine power reduced and the check engine light came on. I looked up the issue and saw that several people with the same car were having the same issues. I added a gas treatment like they suggested but the light is still on. I have not been to a dealership or mechanic shop yet due to not having the money. But if this is a common problem then Chevrolet needs to pay for repairs. If my car fails while I’m driving, I could cause an accident.I have had the throttle body cleaned before and the wheel sensors but I am still having issues.

When I was in the left lane passing a vehicle, my car slowed down to 40pmh instead of accelerating when I had pressed the gas pedal. The car behind me almost re ended me in the process. I was driving to the clinic I go to everyday in the mornings I was in the freeway going about 70mph when suddenly I get a msg saying “engine power reduced” also engine light came on and the car starts slowing down and it’s not letting me go more than 20mph on the FREEWAY! I could have caused an accident, (this is very unsafe specially since my 2 and 4 year old were in the car with me) I got off on the next exit and pulled in to a gas station and turned the car off and waited about 10 mins I turned the car back on and the msg was gone but the engine light was still on about a minute or 2 later the msg comes back on so I have to pull over again, it did it about 5x before I can make it to my destination not to mention the way back home I had to stop about 3x more. This is very unsafe and something has to be done as it is not only my car with this problem.

My problem started with the engine first sending me a code “reduced engine power” and this code would appear one week and gone the next. I have taken it to mechanics and had parts replaced and temporary fixes. After getting it back from the mechanic and them telling me that the cylinder one isn’t holding the correct pressure and the exhaust value is burnt due to the consistent auto engine shutoff. The day I got it back on the road the engine went full shutdown at a stop light and would not turn on immediately. I was lucky enough to get it running long enough to crawl into a gas station and get a tow truck to come pick it up and tow it back to the mechanic shop and that’s where it’s been sitting there till I find a new engine to replace it.

Stopped car and turned it off and on. message gone but engine warning light still on. OBD2 stated P2122 error. Was driving home from a job interview about two hours away from home, traveling at 55 mph when the vehicle reduced speed rapidly to ~ 15 mph and on the dash a warning message appeared stating that I had reduced engine power. The situation was incredibly dangerous as there was snow piled on the shoulder, leaving me with no safe way to quickly get out of the way of fast-moving traffic. Once out of the way and after restarting the car and seeing no warning lamps, messages, or anything indicating there were ongoing issues, I turned my hazards off, my turn signal on and made my way back onto the roadway when there was enough distance between myself and the next oncoming car. Upon re-entering the roadway and reaching 24 mph, the car display the same message and reduced speed to max of 12 mph and I was nearly rear-ended by the driver I entered the roadway in front of (with more than ample time and distance to safely reach the speed limit). After several more attempts, I placed hazards on and continued on side of roadway as far as possible. Drove to an AutoZone where they were able to scan my car and informed me that the code I received (have printed doc of code being thrown with date of incident from AutoZone) was very common in the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu's and he recommended that I see if I can return the car to the dealership (had just purchased less than 60 days prior with 78,000 miles on it).

Three times now I have had the warning “engine reduced power” pop up on my panel all times that I drive to my military base for work. Thankfully I haven’t been involved in an accident yet, my highway speed has went from 60mph to 35-40mph due to this issue. I was told I needed to purchase another pedal because of it not responding to the engine but after a second opinion I was told there was something wrong with the computer itself. That there’s faulty wiring which I don’t have the funds to cover because how much it would have cost. I also don’t have the funds to drop on another vehicle so at this point I’m driving a human boobie trap not only for myself but for other drivers around me. I pray no harm is done to anyone else who also owns this vehicle and having the same issues.

I was driving down the Freeway at 65 mph. The roads were wet and slick from snow and in heavy traffic. I got a check engine light and immediately a Engine Power Reduced light. I suddenly lost power and another vehicle behind me almost hit me. I was able to get to the side of the road and shut it off. After a few minutes, I started it back up and the light was still on. I needed to get off the freeway and find a way to work so I put on the emergency flashers and drove to the next exit. The light remained on but I had full power. I am trying to get an appointment to have it looked at.

I travel quite often and drive to work 7/7 days a week and the roads i take are heavily traveled so because of this i’ve almost gotten into many many accidents due to the accelerator failure.

I was driving on a highway, when a message appeared on my control panel stating the engine power was reduced, my engine light turned on, and my car slowed significantly (top speed achievable at about 20 mph). With my hazard lights on, I managed to safely exit the highway and find a parking lot to park in while checking my driver’s manual. The manual mentioned that if the warning light persisted, the car should be checked by a mechanic. As this made it seem that there were instances where the warning message did go away, and thus the problem may also resolve, I turned off my car and turned it back on. The engine light on my control panel persisted but the engine power message was no longer present. Before reentering the highway, I attempted to reach speeds above 20 mph and was successful in doing so. As such, I cautiously finished my journey to work. As I felt it was unsafe to use my car before it was checked by a mechanic, I had my car towed to a mechanic’s shop where I was informed: “Found DTC P2138 accelerator pedal plausibility. Inspected the IP to body harness connector for water intrusion or corrosion and found none at this time. Suggest replacing the accelerator pedal assembly and recheck for proper operation.”

I have a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and while driving on the highway, my engine light came on and my speed decelerated from 65 mph to 40. I took my car for a diagnostic test and the results were Trouble Codes: P2138, U0401-71 and C0242-00. I have done my research and from what I have found so far, is that several people have made Youtube videos about these codes, complaints and complaints on this website as well, and it has come to my understanding, that if enough people complain that this can be a safety issue, then maybe the "POWERS THAT BE", will help with this issue and possibly resolve it. This is and can be dangerous for an individual to drive at the average speed on most U.S. highways, 65, and they decelerate without warning down to 40 mph. I'm not sure why anyone does not se the dangers in this situation, especially with other motorists on the road driving at speeds of up to 70 mph, sometimes 75 mph. If I have vehicles behind me driving 65 or more and my vehicle decides to decelerate because of a sensor failure, the vehicle behind me is not going to know that there is a problem and may not have enough time to react before causing an accident. I am adding my concern not only to many individuals who have reported the same or similar experience , but in hopes that this issue would gain more attention.

I WAS DRIVING ON A SECONDARY ROAD GOING ABOUT 45 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR DECELERATED TO 20 MPH IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. THE DASH SHOWED ME AN "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED" MESSAGE AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OFF THE ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO GET HOME SAFELY. I TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND RESTARTED IT AND IT SEEMINGLY IS FINE NOW BUT THIS IS TERRIBLY UNSAFE. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE IS NO RECALL OR ANY WORD ON THIS FROM GM.

THE SPEED REDUCED TO ABOUT 20 AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I TOLD HIM TO PUT ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND PULL OVER02 AS SOON AS IT WAS SAFE. HE DID AS I SAID AS I WAITED ON THE PHONE WITH HIM. HE MADE IT HOME WITHOUT ANY MORE INCIDENTS. AS I STATED ABOVE YOU CAN SEE HOW THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. I AM LEARNING THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH A CHEVY MALIBU (2016 64,763 MILES) WITH SAFETY ISSUES. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I HOPE THAT NO ONE HAS TO LOSE THEIR LIFE BEFORE ACTION IS TAKING. SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK MY CAR WILL SUDDENLY GO INTO "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" MODE AND GO INTO LOW SPEED. THIS POWER REDUCTION IS EXCEEDINGLY DANGEROUS WHEN MOVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND SUDDENLY NEEDING TO PULL OVER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON BUT THEN DISAPPEAR SOMETIMES THE SAME DAY AFTER HAVING PARKED FOR A WHILE. TYPICALLY THE CAR GOES INTO THIS "REDUCED POWER MODE" AFTER ABOUT 45 MINUTES OF DRIVING. I WAS ABLE TO CAPTURE THE FOLLOWING ERROR CODES: P1101 (INTAKE AIR FLOW SYSTEM PERFORMANCE), P2122 (THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR D CIRCUIT LOW INPUT), AND P2138 (THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR/SWITCH D/E VOLTAGE CORRELATION). REALLY HOPING THIS WILL BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY INSTEAD OF HAVING TO GET IT FIXED MYSELF!

I LEFT AND THE SAME DAY THE WARNING CAME BACK AGAIN AND SLOWED THE CAR. THE SPEED CAN GO FROM 60MPH TO LESS THAN 10MPH IN FEW SECONDS. STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AGAIN DOESN'T HELP THE CAR INCREASE SPEED. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND MANY OTHER DRIVERS HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM DIAGNOSED IT AGAIN. UNFORTUNATELY THEY HAVE NOT DETECTED THE CAUSE OF THE WARNING 'ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED'. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE VACUUM PUMP WAS NOT. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. SOMETIMES THE MESSAGE WOULD CLEAR OUT, BUT NOT TOO MUCH LONGER WHILE DRIVING, THE MESSAGE WOULD POP BACK UP AND I WOULD LOSE POWER AGAIN. EACH TIME THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THIS PART, IT WAS NEVER COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. THIS DEFECT IS BEYOND DANGEROUS AND CAN CAUSE HARM NOT JUST TO THE DRIVER, BUT OTHERS ON THE ROAD AS WELL. THE CAR'S ENGINE POWER REDUCES TO 20-25MPH FROM 60-70MPH IN A MATTER OF SECONDS WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED ME CAUSE TO BE REAR ENDED.

MY FATHER HAS A 2017 MALIBU AND THIS HAD JUST HAPPENED TO HIM, SO I KNEW TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHUT THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON, BUT THE LIGHT STAYED ON AND THE CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE PAST 40MPH AND TOOK FOREVER TO GET UP TO SPEED. TOOK IT IN AND THEY "FIXED" IT. I HAD TO HAVE IT FIXED 3 TIMES IN 3 MONTHS. ALL SIMILAR SITUATIONS, DRIVING 45+ MPH. MY TOUCH SCREEN RADIO ALSO WENT OUT, AND HAD TO GET A NEW HEAD UNIT. HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT, RADIO, SPEEDOMETER, ALL OF IT AT 5AM. IT CAME BACK ON WITHIN 2 SECONDS AND THE CAR WAS FINE. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANYTHING. HAD A BUDDY OF MINE RUN A CODE CHECK AND NOTHING SHOWED UP. A MONTH LATER I HAD ANOTHER ACCELERATOR SENSOR ISSUE, DRIVING 60+ MPH. HAD TO DRIVE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD UNTIL I COULD GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. TOOK IT IN AND GOT IT FIXED FOR FREE SINCE THERE WAS A RECALL. 2 MONTHS GO BY, WE'RE IN JANUARY 2020 NOW, DRIVING 60+ AND MY CAR SHOWS "STABILITRAK" AND HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS OF THE PREVIOUS LOW POWER, AND NOT ACCELERATING. TURNS OUT TO BE THE AIR CHARGE COOLER. NOT A WEEK LATER AFTER GETTING IT BACK, DRIVING 70+ MPH AND MY CAR LOSES POWER. HAD TO TOW IT SINCE I WAS IN A DIFFERENT STATE. THE ONLY ISSUE BEING IS THAT THE GAS PEDAL AND SENSOR ARE ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER. WHICH MEANS THAT SINCE THIS IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE WITH THE THOUSAND OF GM VEHICLES AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS AND THE COST OF THE RENTAL CAR THROUGH THE DEALER. THERE IS NO ETA ON WHEN THE PART WILL BE IN (IF EVER) SINCE GM HAS NOT BEEN PRODUCING THESE PARTS FOR AFTERMARKET REPAIRS. THIS ISSUE STARTED ON 12/21/18 AND THE DEALER SAID IT MAY TAKE UP TO TWO WEEKS OR LONGER TO GET THE PART, THE PART HAS STILL NOT BEEN ISSUED TO THE DEALER WHICH HAS SEVERAL CARS WITH THIS ISSUE. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL GM VEHICLES, MY GRANDFATHER WORKED FOR GM, AND I SERVICE MANY HEAVY DUTY GM ENGINES THROUGH MY JOB, BUT THIS WILL BE THE LAST GM VEHICLE I BELIEVE I WILL BE PURCHASING. THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, IN 5:00 RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND I TURNED THE KEY OFF. I WAITED A COUPLE MINUTES AND THE CAR DID STARTUP AND I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY. I TOOK THE BACK WAY HOME SO I WOULDN'T BE ON THE HIGHWAY. I CALLED THE CAR DEALERSHIP AND BROUGHT IT IN THE NEXT DAY. THEY SAID THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO RECREATE THE ISSUE AND DIAGNOSTICS DIDN'T SHOW ANYTHING. I HAVE SEEN A FEW OTHER POST ON THE INTERNET WITH THIS HAPPENING ON OTHER MALIBU CARS. THE DEALERSHIP IS ALLOWING US TO "EXCHANGE" (FOR A FEE) TO GET A DIFFERENT CAR SINCE WE JUST PURCHASED THIS ONE A MONTH AGO. HOPE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN TO SOMEBODY ELSE WITH THIS CAR.

I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE OVER 30 MPH. I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF WHERE I STILL WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A 'GAS PEDAL SENSOR THAT WENT OUT' AND THAT THIS PART IS GOING OUT IN ALL MALIBU'S.

AROUND 50,000 MILES SENSOR ON THROTTLE PEDAL WENT OUT AND CAUSED MY CAR TO STOP ACCELERATING WITH MY KID IN THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD DRIVING. NEXT AT 74,000 MY 2016 CHEVY MALIBU LT 1.5L TURBO HAS A CRACKED PISTON. I BELIEVE RECALL 17019 STOCHASTIC PRE EGNITION SHOULD BE LINKED TO MY VIN. FIRST SERVICE STABILITRAK COMES ON WITH A GLOWING ICON SHOWING A CAR WITH WAVY LINES UNDERNEATH IT. THEN CODE READING P0301 (CYLINDER 1 MISFIRE) WENT THROUGH THE CHECKLIST, SPARK PLUGS, COILS, FUEL INJECTORS ALL FINE. CHECKED THE COMPRESSION OF CYLINDER ONE AND IT'S GONE. CYLINDER ONE HAS NO COMPRESSION IT DOESN'T WORK. I SAW THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY PEOPLE WITH THE 1.5L TURBO GM TRIED PERFECTING AND STILL DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO FIX BESIDES REPLACING THE PISTON OR MOTOR. BOTH TIMES I WAS DRIVING MY CAR. ONCE I NOTICED THE STABILITRAK AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT I WENT HOME AND LEFT THE CAR IN THE GARAGE IN HOPES THERE WASN'T DAMAGE. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND OUT GM KNEW THIS WHOLE TIME AND NO ONE TOLD ME. FIRST TIME THIS HAPPEN I WAS ON THE FREEWAY GOING AROUND 70 MPH WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WHEN ON AND A MASSAGE SAYING ENGINE POWER IS REDUCE THE CAR BEGUN TO SHAKE AND SPEED WHEN DOWN TO AROUND 40 MPH FROM 70 MPH IN SECONDS, I KEEP ACCELERATING BUT THE CAR WAS NOT PICKING UP ANY SPEED EVEN THOUGH MY RPM WHEN UP TO 4 AND 5 MY CAR WASN'T GOING ANY FASTER. THIS HAPPEN OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. BUT THE ISSUE CONTINUE NOW AFTER SO MANY TIMES THEY FIGURE OUT THAT SOME SENSORS NEED TO BE REPLACE AND ALSO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NOT WORKING. I REALLY HOPE THIS IS FIX.

I DECIDED TO LEASE A 2016 MALIBU OF FEBRUARY 2016. THE CAR WAS GREAT UNTIL MONTHS LATER I STARTED TO HAVE PROBLEMS. I WAS DRIVING TO SCHOOL ON THE FREEWAY IN OCTOBER 2016, WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY WENT INTO REDUCE SPEED ENGINE. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 TO 70 MPH. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE OF THE FREEWAY. AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR DASHBOARD DISPLAY REDUCE SPEED ENGINE, THEN IMMEDIATELY MY CAR WENT FROM 70 MPH TO 30 MPH TO 20MPH. I MANAGE TO GET MY CAR TO THE EMERGENCY LANE OF THE FREEWAY. THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED THAT FOLLOWING WEEK, WITH COMPLICATIONS OF TRYING TO GET A RENTAL CAR SO I CAN GO TO WORK AND SCHOOL. 2017 OCTOBER 31ST, I WAS DRIVING TO GO PICK UP MY SON FROM SCHOOL. I WAS ON A MAJOR STREET. MY CAR WENT INTO REDUCE SPEED ENGINE. I WAS DRIVING 35 MPH. MY CAR WENT FROM 35 TO 20 MPH'S AGAIN. I MANAGED TO PULL INTO A NEAR BANK. SHAKEN UP I PARKED MY CAR AND TURN IT OFF AND THEN BACK ON WITHIN FIVE MINUTES. THE LIGHT WAS STILL DISPLAY ON MY DASHBOARD. I DROVE TO MY SON SCHOOL. I COULDN'T DRIVE OVER 10 MPH. IT NORMALLY TAKE 10 MINUTES TO DRIVE TO MY SON SCHOOL IT 25. IT TOOK EVEN LONGER TO GET BACK HOME. NOVEMBER 30TH, SAME PROBLEM HAPPEN AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. ONCE AGAIN I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE DRIVING THE REDUCE SPEED ENGINE CAME ON. MY CAR SLOWED DOWN. I HAD CARS BEHIND ME HONKING THEIR HORNS AT ME NEARLY CAUSING A FEW ACCIDENTS. I MANAGE TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY. I DID NOT WANT TO BE STUCK ON THE FREEWAY WHILE IT WAS DARK. I WAS STRANDED AT A NEARBY GAS STATION FOR CLOSE TO TWO HOURS. THE PROBLEMS I KEEP HAVING WITH THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS. I REFUSE TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THAT CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE ME OR MY SON OUR LIVES.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT IT WAS A WARRANTY ISSUE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH THE MESSAGE REDUCED ENGINE POWER. THE CAR SLOWED FROM 60 MILES TO 20 MILES INSTANTLY, I PANICKED BUT WAS ABLE TO EXIT WITHOUT HARM. ONCE ON THE STREET THE CAR WOULD NOT EXCEED 20 MPH. ALMOST LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS PULLING. I RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM ON STAR DIAGNOSTIC STATING CRITICAL ISSUE WITH ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION SERVICE IMMEDIATELY. I GOT TO THE DEALER AT THE EARLIEST ALLOWED AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE TECH TOLD ME THE CODE SHOWING WAS FOR THE TROTTEL AND NOT THE ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION, BUT THEY WOULD HAVE TO DO A COMPLETE CHECK. ONE HOUR LATER THE CUSTOMER SERVICE TECH CALLED FOR ME AND GAVE ME MY KEYS SAYING THERE IS NO KNOWN FIX AT THIS TIME FOR MY PROBLEM AND THEY RESET THE CODES. IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN GIVE THEM A CALL. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH AND THE MILEAGE ON MY CAR WAS ABOUT 39,980.

THE INFORMATION PANEL ALSO STATED "SERVICE DRIVER ASSIST SYSTEM." THE DEALER STATES IT'S AN ISSUE WITH A FAULTY ACCELERATOR PEDAL TERMINAL? HOWEVER, THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS AND IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN TRAVELING ON THE ROADS, AND POWER/ACCELERATION IS REDUCED AND CAPPED AT 40 MPH.
