Reduced engine power. Car will not accelerate over 35 mph. Almost rear ended. Will be the second time in dealer for same problem. Also, Shift to Park. Also second time at dealer for same problems. You cannot get out of car until you keep moving the shifting handle.

Every time I shift the car into park, I receive a "shift to park" warning on the informational display. I am unable to turn car off until the car recognizes it. Can sometimes take 10 minutes before I can get car to recognize. This was fixed once before while under warranty and fix lasted 3 years. They cleaned the park switch contacts and installed an online shifter jumper harness but will not cover the fix now that it is happening out of warranty. It's a known issue that mechanics say is so common a recall should be issued.

I have had 2 incidents, and paid for repairs both times. When put in park, SHIFT TO PARK warning lights come on. First time, Oct 4, 2021. Second time Dec 16, 2024. In 2021 I was told there should be a recall, it happens a lot. I'm not seeing recall, and think I should get my money back.

While driving, random and complete engine power loss for several seconds, unable to accelerate at all. After power is regained, a cloud of white smoke is seen from the exhaust. The vehicle then drives completely normal, and no codes show up on the dashboard. This has happened three times within two months at around 100000mi on the odometer. Complete power loss could result in being a hazard to other drivers, along with not allowing the driver to make decisions to avoid an accident or propel their vehicle forward. The vehicle is going in for inspection within the next two weeks to determine cause.

Engine power abruptly stopped while driving causing drivers behind me to almost rear end me. Dashboard displays ‘Engine Power is Reduced.’ It has happened since I purchased the vehicle in 2017 but had not done this in a few years. I’m on top of maintenance and did mention this issue to the dealer but no one reached out or offered a solution.

Approximately 2-3 times a month the car's transmission intermittently fails to engage from a stop. Wont go forward or in reverse. Need to restart the car to fix the issue. Dont feel safe driving the car in traffic where a failure to accelerate could cause an accident. The issue started at under 17000, and the now has only 18846 miles. Chevy Malibu 2017 Premier. Dealer not sure what this issue is but wants to replace the transmission which I dont have the budget to cover. GM only offered to cover 15% of the repair and does not seem concerned about the safety issue.

The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the ABS, Power Train, and Throttle Sensor all had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired by the mechanic. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

Error message reads "Engine Power Reduced". I was on the highway and suddenly the engine gives out and only lets me go to a max capacity of 20 mph. I able to safely remove myself to the side of the freeway. A week later without moving my vehicle I checked to see the status of my car and the error message removed itself. It's been over a year now with my engine power coming and going, just as fast as it comes, it goes-- making driving very unreliable and unsafe to step onto the road. Apparently I'm not the only one with this concern according to [XXX] , a class action lawsuit has been charged against Chevrolet in The Rothschild v. I get a notification for shift to park and I can’t put car in park. I’ve paid for the repair once at about $500 and it’s doing it again.it’s clearly an issue because many people have put complaints in and the dealerships are seeing it frequently. Is this a recall or will gm reimburse me since clearly it’s a major issue for this make and model.

My car Engine failed on me and I have Taken this car Back to dealership over and over again and they kept telling me nothing was wrong and kept clearing my codes on the car and now out of a car I have to still pay on this car cost me 22,000 dollars I bought the car with 34,000 miles in Dec of 2019 and have had problems since the first power loss i cant remember exact date I found out this car had a recall and at 3,300 miles with the valve and gotten fixed I had loss of power with the gas pedal which was also recall car felt like it was gonna stop on me multiple times with power loss engine was riding rough I wold smell a burning smell at times my shift into park as well needed fixed the dealership said I needed a new computer and they couldn't do nothing about it I even Contacted GM and nothing was done before my car engine went out on me every time I took the car in the codes that came up was in the car history which i asked why do codes keep pop up in history if you keep clearing them that means something wrong and they couldn't give me a answer My extended warranty denied my claim they had a inspector come out and take a look due to consumption of oil and bent valve is a part in the engine they wont cover and I even asked my advisor all the times I brought my car in this could of been issue and he said possibly I have all my invoices as well have I dont have a way to upload them at the moment

2017 Chevy Malibu has P2138 showing up.. I was on the highway loss half the power to my car, almost causing a major accident, went from 65 mph to 30mph in seconds.. This is a safety issue & needs to be address ASAP!! I have my vehicle at the dealership, the service teams seems to have no clue that there is an issue with the mailbu's !! The P2138 is defined as “Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch “D”/”E” Voltage Correlation.” It is triggered when the vehicle's Engine Control Module (ECM) detects that the signals from the two throttle position sensors or the two accelerator pedal position sensors don't correlate.

When parking car we place the shifter in park, and psh the button to turn off car it states to “Put shifter in Park” after wiggling the shifter that is clearly in park the car will shut off. Also the breaks will pulsate at slower speeds like the ABS is kicking in, but is not the case. Along with the pulsating there are loud thumping noises. Car today when driving did same thing the said “reducing engine power” almost made it home then completely died on me in middle of road. Was told it could be because of bad vacuum pump, brake booster sensor, and brake booster by my mechanic. He said in newer cars this would prevent the car from starting.

When the vehicle is in park and you try to turn it off with the start/stop button an on dash error code of ‘Shift to Park’ appears even though the vehicle is clearly in park. You are not able to turn the vehicle off. I am very concerned this could cause major safety issues! When I searched for it, it appears a lot of GM owners are having the same issue. Please issue a recall!

Driving vehicle like normal and then the check engine light comes on with the stabilitrak light, and get message "reduced engine power". Car goes down to less than 50 miles per hour and is struggling to go must faster while I am on the freeway. The RPMs keep going higher and higher even though the car is not going very fast. Get home and let it rest. Keep having same issue on and off past two weeks. Sometimes it comes on and goes off, has been on past three days acting the same way. Check engine light says Pedal Sensor issue. Known recall for it listed with letter sent out in 2019, but of course this was only if you were having the issue at the time (which I didn't) and it is only covering for cars under 150K miles. My car has 192K miles, so they will no longer cover it, even though it is a known issue has been for some time now! It is very expensive and unfortunate that they will not cover this issue regardless of miles, knowing that this can happen to the 2017 Chevy Malibu's at any time. Still driving it the way it is. Did try to clean out the Throttle body and see if that helped, but issue still is there. Will try to replace sensor at some point and see what happens.

ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH DECREASED ENGINE POWER LIGHT. FELT THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTING. SPEED WENT FROM 50 DOWN TO 20 WHILE ON AN EXPRESSWAY AND I HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND SHUT IT DOWN. WAITED AWHILE, TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT CONTINUED SEVERAL TIMES TO DOWNSHIFT. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, HAD TO WAIT A FEW WEEKS FOR THE PART AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THANK GOD I WAS NOT IN THE PASSING LANE OR THERE WOULD 'VE BEEN A VERY BAD ACCIDENT.

When the vehicle is in park and turned off, there is a message that appears on the dashboard that reads, "Shift to Park," despite the gear shift in the park position. This is a safety hazard because the vehicle will not turn off and will continue to use the vehicle's battery unless the "Shift to Park" message is cleared from the dash board. To clear the message, one must press the gear shift button several times or wiggle the gear shifter. My spouse spent 10 minutes doing this earlier today and was almost late for a doctor's appointment. If my spouse did not clear the "Shift to Park" message, my spouse would have risked having a dead battery after the doctor's appointment and would have had to call for a ride home or walk in weather with heat indices in the mid-90 degree F. The "Shift to Park" message has showed up on the dashboard with increased frequency over the past several weeks and Chevy should issue a recall to remedy this issue at no cost to consumers. This is a known issue by Chevy, according to GMauthority.com, as a class action lawsuit has been filed because Chevy has not acted to fix a known problem in their vehicles. I am writing to add my complaint to the list complaints this agency has received regarding this issue. Please promptly issue a recall to remedy this issue.

I should not have to sit there and wrestle with the transmission shifter to get this to turn off. This has caused my battery to die and now my transmission is slipping. First incident, vehicle in motion moving about 45 MPH approached red light vehicle started making loud tick noise when to start to slow down and break pedal was solid not able to slow the vehicle down. Panicked, 3 children in my car in fear for their safety. Was able to put both feet and press as hard as I could to attempt to stop the car. Car thankfully came to a stop and was able to pull over exit the car and have towed to dealership. Dealership inspected vehicle and decided that the vacuum pump had locked up and the case and gear had broken apart. Replaced part and everything was working. Second incident, noticed fluid on driveway, took car to dealership and they stated the vacuum pump was leaking, changed gasket. Third incident, driving car down the highway, vehicle lost speed (jumped) and check engine light came on. Exited highway and car shut off and breaks were again solid had to again use two feet to press as hard as I could in order to not blow through an intersection. Was able to get off road call tow truck and tow to closest shop. They inspected vehicle and found the vacuum pump locked up again and broken pieces where sent into the engine and destroyed the cam shaft.

We’re worried we will not see the error message and exit the vehicle with the possibility of the car moving as it doesn’t recognize that the car is in park.

The contact stated upon coming to a complete stop, the vehicle shut off and the warning messages "Power Engine Low", "Steering Reduced; Be Careful" were displayed. The contact stated upon restarting the vehicle, the warning messages were no longer illuminated and she was able to continue driving. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred several times. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 45-55 MPH, the vehicle decelerated independently to 25-30 MPH. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring intermittently. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the convertor actuator voltage performance for the power train system had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for the repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Frequently the car will say that the transmission is not in park, but the shifter is in the park position, and the car will not turn off until I take it from park to reverse to park again. Sometimes it takes several tries before the car will register that it is in park.

When vehicle is engaged in auto stop, it stalls out completely or bucks forward when at a complete stop(sign or red light). Upon review, two mechanics stated it has to do with the transmission and tork converter. Repair is upwards of $4000-$6000. 2017 Malibu has less than 75000 miles. Will be contacting dealership today 4/10/22.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the accelerator pedal sensor failed with the check engine vehicle entered reduced power mode, the vehicle independently slowed down as the contact pulled to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and took the vehicle to a dealer. The dealer informed him warning light and several other unknown warning lights illuminated. As the that the accelerator pedal sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that the parts to repair the vehicle were unavailable. The contact then had an independent mechanic replace the accelerator pedal and the sensor. The contact also stated that while merging onto a highway at 60 MPH, the vehicle stalled with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle entered reduced power mode as the contact pulled off to the side of the highway. The contact was able to exit the highway and drove the vehicle slowly back to his residence. The following day, the vehicle was towed back to the dealer where he was informed that the high-pressure fuel pump failed and that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V358000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was not notified of failure. The vehicle was repaired but remained at the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.

I purchased my vehicle in August of 2020, in October while driving down a main highway the engine light came on with a warning that stated "driving with reduced power". The vehicle slows to 20 mph and will not accelerate any faster. I called my dealers service center and was told this issue was a "quirk that happens" and to "turn my vehicle off and start it again" and that by doing this it would make it go away and it would not happen again. Approximately 8 months later this happened again, so I called the service department and was told that a line was freezing and that I could bring my vehicle in so they could empty & refill the frozen line costing $500, but it would not solve the problem, the dealer then recommended that I park in a heated space to avoid it freezing, but again it would not resolve the problem long term. A month later while driving home from work in a blizzard, my vehicle once again lost power, with the engine light on and a warning that I was driving with reduced power and slowing to 20mph. This put myself and other travelers on this busy main road at risk. When I reached out to my dealer they said that there was nothing they could do that would guarantee a fix, but they could try three different options, again with no guarantee of a fix. None of this is covered under warranty and costs roughly $1500.

Low Engine Power message appears , my driving speed dismished I was on the highway driving and the light appeared, I also needed some fuel, but I did eventually stop added gas engine light disappeared but it eventually reappeared again and has remained with full tank of gas

Driving on highway at about 65 mph on family trip to Delaware. . Car suddenly gave reduced acceleration error and speed started declining while in traffic. No warning.checked chevron app on phone and it did not see anything wrong. There was NO check engine or anything. Got to a dealer and they said it was probably a sensor for gas pedal. 5 days later driving home to Georgia from trip on highway around same rate of speed. No warning . The check engine light and reduced engine power warning message came on. This time the Chevrolet app notified me of trouble and said I needed the car seen within a day. .Got to a dealer and now they say they think it may be the cam shaft based on the code but they cannot replicate issue. I took a photo of the alert from the second incident . Car has about 46,000 miles and is well maintained . Our safety was at risk both times but especially the first time as we were in traffic and speed declined .

Intermittent shifts, no reverse, MIL illuminated Happened in rush hour traffic, could not move out of EMS workers way because of reverse failure. Nearly ran into vehicle in front of me due to such harsh sift from 1st gear to 2nd gear. Currently being inspected by local Chevrolet dealer. No warning light when incident occurred, only came on when I was able to turn the car off and back on. Extremely dangerous circumstance that could have easily been prevented had GM issued a recall on Service Bulletin 18-NA-081.

I get a ‘Shift to Park’ message when car is placed in PARK and turn off ignition. This is not covered under the bumper-to-bumper warranty since it is over 3 years old, but I only have 28,800 miles on the car. This shouldn’t be failing after so soon. This happened about 2 years ago, but it stopped and has worked fine for two years. Now it's back and won't go away. There seems to be no way to shut off the car unless it is in PARK. Until I an able to get it fixed I am concerned it won't shut-off one of these times, and what happens if it won't shut-off? None of the options are good if I'm driving after hours and the dealer or service center is closed. This can easily turn into a dangerous situation. (Repair is scheduled for next week.) This seems to be a common error reported on many 2016 through 2020 Chevrolet vehicles. There are service bulletins with regard to this problem. Why has Chevrolet/GM not had a recall for this widespread issue of a faulty micro switch?

My 2017 Malibu (50K miles) has begun giving me the "Shift to Park" error. When I have parked my car, shifted to park, and turn off the ignition I get the display message saying "Shift to Park" even though I have already done that and turned off the car. To clear the message, I have had to restart the car, shift out of park and back into park more forcefully than I want to or, while the ignition is off, push the gear shift harder to park. This error went from 1 a week to multiple times a day. I spoke with GM and they are saying they are not aware of this problem and I will have to pay for repairs out of pocket. I read today that a class action suit has been filed specifically about this problem. I am hoping with enough owners reporting their shift to park issue, GM will have to issue a recall.

I was going 70mph on the highway, when I got a sudden alarm from the car saying "reduced power". The car would not accelerate and started slowing rapidly, almost resulting in a collision. The car would not go more than 20mph. I had to pull off to the shoulder, restart the car several times, and then was able to get the power to come back, but the check engine light remained on.

Error message on dash "shift to park". The car will not shut off completely with message on. I did some research, and it seems to be happening with a lot of Malibus and GMs. This is the second time it happens on my 2017 Chevrolet Malibu. My car is still fairly new with only 35k miles. The first time warranty covered it (shifter was replaced), but I'm not so sure if they will cover this second time. This is a manufacturer error and we should not have to pay the price every time this happens.

A MONTH PASSED WHEN THE ISSUE APPEARED AND WHEN I DECIDED TO GO INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO POSSIBLY TRADE IN MY CAR THE LIGHT WAS NOT APPEARING FOR DAYS BEFOREHAND AND THINGS WERE NORMAL TILL A A COUPLE DAYS AFTER I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP MY CAR READ ON THE DASH 'REDUCED ENGINE POWER ' I WASN'T ABLE TO ACCELERATE QUICK ENOUGH IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC ON MILITARY TRAIL AND BELVEDERE I HAD TO PULL THROUGH A WALMART PARKING LOT TO AVOID ON COMING TRAFFIC AND BRING THE CAR TO MY HOME CLOSE BY VERY SLOW AND SLUGGISH DUE TO NOT GETTING ANY ACCELERATION FROM ME PRESSING ON THE PEDAL. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO REPLACE MY FUEL PUMP SYSTEM AT A COST HOWEVER IT HAS A CURRENT RECALL FOR MY SPECIFIC MAKE AND MODEL.

TODAY I CAME TO A STOPLIGHT AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED LEAVING ME STRANDED THERE FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES UNTIL I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN AND MOVING. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN MANUAL MODE TO GET IT TO DRIVE. I AM AWAITING THE ESTIMATE FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE WHAT IT WOULD COST TO FIX THIS. AFTER PUTTING MY 2017 CHEVY MALIBU INTO PARK, I RECEIVED A "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE ON THE DASH. THE CAR WOULD NOT FULLY TURN OFF. IT STAYED IN AUXILLARY POWER MODE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,400. (YES, THE MILEAGE IS 8,400. THIS IS NOT A TYPO.) THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MARTIN CHEVROLET, LOCATED AT: 23505 HAWTHORNE BOULEVARD, TORRANCE CALIFORNIA, 90505. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE SEEN IT MULTIPLE TIMES. (IT IS A TRANMISSION CONTROL ASSEMBLY FAILURE). I ASKED IF IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW AND HE CONCURRED. HE SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL AT HIS TIME BUT THEY ARE EXPECTING ONE. I SPENT $550 TO HAVE THE REPLACEMENT DONE. GENERAL MOTORS NEEDS TO DECLARE A RECALL AND REFUND MY MONEY. A TWO YEAR OLD CAR WITH 8,400 MILES SHOULD NOT BE INCURRING MAJOR EXPENSES FOR FAULTY COMPONENTS.

THE VACUUM COMING APART ALSO CAUSED THE CAMSHAFT TO BREAK ALONG WITH A HOSE AND A CAMSHAFT SENSOR. THE REPAIRS ALONE ARE ESTIMATED SO FAR TO COST ME ABOUT $2,500.

FOR THE FIRST FEW MONTHS, THE ERROR MESSAGE WOULD DISAPPEAR AFTER A FEW SECONDS TO A MINUTE, AFTER WHICH THE "START/STOP" BUTTON TO BE PRESSED TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY. OVER THE LAST MONTH, HOWEVER, THE AMOUNT OF TIME THE MESSAGE STAYED DISPLAYED INCREASED TO MANY MINUTES, AND IT WOULD TAKE TURNING THE CAR ON/OFF AND SHIFTING IN/OUT OF PARK MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE COULD BE TURNED OFF COMPLETELY. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS FINALLY TURNED OFF COMPLETELY, I WASN'T ABLE TO DRIVE IT FOR A FEW WEEKS FOR FEAR OF NOT BEING ABLE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AT WORK/STORES/ETC., OR FOR FEAR OF BEING STRANDED WHEN THE BATTERY DRAINS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT EFFECTIVELY MAKES THE VEHICLE UNUSABLE. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, IT WAS FOUND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE TO GM FOR MULTIPLE MODELS AND YEARS OF VEHICLES PER SERVICE BULLETIN 19-NA-206. BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE, HOWEVER, THE INITIALLY INTERMITTENT NATURE OF THIS PROBLEM QUICKLY TURNS INTO A PERMANENT, DISABLING PROBLEM. IN ADDITION, A MORE PERMANENT SOLUTION NEEDS TO BE PROVIDED THAN WHAT'S LISTED ON THE SERVICE BULLETIN: (A) SCRAPING DEPOSITS OFF THE ELECTRICAL CONTACTS WITH YOUR THUMB 50 TIMES TO SEE IF THAT WORKS, (B) INSTALLING A JUMPER TO SEE IF THAT WORKS, OR (C) REPLACING THE SHIFTER CONTROL ASSEMBLY. MY CONCERN IS THAT IF THE DESIGN OF THE NEW ASSEMBLY IS THE SAME, THE PROBLEM WILL REAPPEAR IN A FEW YEARS WITH THE REPLACEMENT ASSEMBLY; ALL ARE JUST TEMPORARY STOP GAP MEASURES. A REAL FIX THAT PREVENTS THE CORROSION/DEPOSITS IS NEEDED, AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED.

CAR WAS AGAIN PRESENTED TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND IT SHOWED THAT THE SAME FAULT OCCURRED. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY GENERAL MOTORS. FAULT CODES P2138 FOR ACCELERATOR PEDAL, C0242 AND U0401 FOR TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. NEITHER OF THESE FAULTS WERE ADDRESSED BY THE DEALER DURING THE REPAIR.

I TOOK MY CAR THE OREILLEYS AND AUTOZONE TO HAVE THEM RUN A GENERAL DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND THE ERROR CODE BEING RETURNED WAS 'P2138' - 'THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR/SWITCH D / E VOLTAGE CORRELATION'. I THEN SET UP AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, WHERE TECHNICIANS ALSO RAN A MORE THOROUGH DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND FOUND MY CAR NEEDED A NEW ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR. THIS PART IS NOT FUNCTIONING AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO AND AT THE VERY LEAST IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD.

I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO GET INTO A PARKING LOT BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT SHUT OFF AND THE "SHIFT TO PARK" WARNING SHOWED. FINALLY GOT THAT ERROR TO GO OFF AND SHUT OFF CAR. CAR WAS ABLE TO RESTART WITH ONLY THE ENGINE LIGHT ON. STAYED ON FOR THE NEXT 35 MILES. JUST WENT BACK OUT AT LUNCH TIME AND NOW NO LIGHTS AND IT WAS DRIVING FINE UNTIL I TRIED SHUTTING OFF AND THE "SHIFT TO PARK" WOULDN'T GO OFF NO MATTER HOW MUCH I TRIED TO WIGGLE THE HANDLE. THE POWER STEERING ALSO GOES OUT AT RANDOM TIMES. THE CAR GETS SIGNIFICANTLY HARDER TO STEER, OR TURN. HAPPENS WHEN LANE DEPARTURE IS TURNED OFF AS WELL. ALSO THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE AS CONSTANTLY FAILING. ALMOST LIKE THE CAMERA JUST STOPS WORKING, AND THE ENTIRE SYSTEM SHUTS DOWN, OR IT SAYS ITS STILL ENGAGED AND CANT SEE THE CARS IN FRONT SLOWING DOWN. SOMETIMES THE HEADS UP DISPLAY ALERT DOESN'T EVEN GO OFF WHEN IT SHOULD. NOT SURE IF THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE, OR EACH INDIVIDUAL SYSTEM HAS PROBLEMS. CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER ABOUT 6 TIMES NOW WITH THE SAME ISSUES. THEY CURRENTLY HAVE THE CAR, AND HAVE HAD IT FOR ABOUT 25 DAYS NOW. ALWAYS THE SAME OUTCOME... "WE DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT". THEY EVEN HAD A SPECIALIST COME IN AND REPROGRAM THE TRANSMISSION TO TRY TO "FIX THE PROBLEM". IT HASN'T FIXED THE PROBLEM YET. TRANSMISSION ISSUES USUALLY HAPPEN STATIONARY, GOING FROM DRIVE TO PARK, SOMETIMES YOU WILL GET A LOUD AND VERY HARD SHIFT INTO GEAR, SOMETIMES IT SAYS ITS IN DRIVE OR REVERSE, YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, AND TAP ON THE GAS AND NOTHING HAPPENS. IT ACTS AS IF ITS STILL IN PARK. IT WOULD ALSO SAY "SHIFT TO PARK" AFTER YOU ALREADY HAVE AND WONT LET YOU TURN OFF THE CAR, UNTIL IT REGISTERS YOU IN "PARK". AS FOR THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE, IT HAPPENS WHILE IN MOTION. ITS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE I CANT EVEN USE IT ANYMORE. IT MAY WORK FOR 3 MILES, THEN COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. STEERING ISSUE HAPPENS WHENEVER IT FEELS LIKE IT. SOMETIMES WHILE PARKED, SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING. DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER SPEED WISE.

I PLACED MY CAR IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE'S DASH STATED 'SHIFT TO PARK.' ON SATURDAY, JUNE 29TH, 2019 APPROXIMATELY AT 12:30 PM MY FAMILY'S 2017 CHEVROLET MALIBU WAS IN MOTION IN A MAJOR INTERSTATE (I-75) AND THE TRAFFIC STARTED SLOWING DOWN, I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN AND THE PEDAL BECAME VERY HARD TO BRAKE AND HAVING TO SWERVE TO THE SIDE OF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THE VEHICLE'S MESSAGE BOARD READ "ENGINE POWER REDUCED". I ALSO RECEIVED AN EMAIL MESSAGE FROM ON-STAR STATING THAT AN ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION SYSTEM WAS DETECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO VICTORY LANE CHEVROLET IN FORT MYERS, FLORIDA, AND THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TOLD US THAT THE ISSUE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION AS THE VEHICLE MESSAGE STATED, BUT A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM'S VACUUM. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A REALLY BAD ACCIDENT AND HOPE THAT THIS INFORMATION CAN HELP AVOID ANY PROBLEMS TO ANYBODY. WE ARE STILL WORRY ABOUT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, SINCE WE ARE BECOMING AWARE THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT SEEMS TO BE REPEATING ITSELF TO MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE AND MODEL AS OUR MALIBU IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA.

I HAVE A RECURRING EMISSION ISSUE DIAGNOSTIC TEST CODE P2097 GENERAL MOTORS HAS ADMITTING TO NOT KNOWING WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW THE EMISSION ISSUE IS ONGOING RECURRING AND MY VEHICLE IS UP FOR STATE INSPECTION FOR WHICH IT WILL NOT PASS, THIS ISSUE BEGAN AT MILE 3007 I'VE OWNED THE CAR FOR LESS THAN 2 YEARS. THE VEHICLE CAME WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING FOR WHICH IT WAS EQUIPPED THAT ISSUE BEGIN AT MILE 598. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE SYSTEMS ISSUES. I HAVE LOST MY JOB OVER THIS CAR THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED WITH SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR IT. I WANT GENERAL MOTORS TO REPURCHASE THE VEHICLE WITH NO USAGE BEING CHARGED. IN ADDITION, THE GEAR SHIFTER FAILED TO ENGAGE IN PARK AND THE CONTACT HAD TO FORCE THE SHIFTER INTO PARK. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE GEAR SHIFTER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER, THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WITH A 2018 PART THAT WAS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,300.

SHIFT TO PARK WARNING APPEARS ON DASHBOARD AFTER VEHICLE HAS BEEN PLACED IN PARK AND POWER BUTTON IS PUSHED. THE SHIFT TO PARK MESSAGE PREVENTS THE VEHICLE FROM SHUTTING OFF. VEHICLE ONLY HAD 37,324 MILES THE FIRST TIME IT OCCURRED. I PUSHED SHIFTER FORWARD AND VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE ISSUE HAPPENED ONCE MORE ON THE SAME DAY THEN STOPPED FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS BEFORE IT DID IT AGAIN AND TOOK MORE THAN JUST PUSHING ON SHIFTER TO ALLOW VEHICLE TO SHUT OFF. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CHEVY DEALER WHICH WAS OUT OF THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY TO BE TOLD THIS IS A PROBLEM THEY HAVE SEEN BEFORE. I PAID FOR THE WORK TO BE COMPLETED BUT ALSO CONDUCTED RESEARCH AND FOUND ON A CHEVY FORUM THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. IF THAT IS THE CASE THE SAFETY FEATURE OF NOT ALLOWING YOU TO SHUT OFF YOUR VEHICLE IF NOT IN PARK IS DRASTICALLY COMPROMISED WHEN THESE CONTROLS BECOME FAULTY. SINCE CHEVY IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE WITH THEIR SHIFTER CONTROL SWITCHES THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO REPLACE THEM WITH A SHIFTER THAT IS NOT KNOWN TO HAVE ISSUES AS THIS COULD BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO DO NOT HAVE THE $700 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. BACK IN THE 1ST WEEK OF JANUARY 2019 I EXPERIENCED THE FIRST MAJOR ISSUE. WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT 65 MPH THE CARS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AS WELL AS THE TRACTION CONTROL. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY SENT A MESSAGE ON MY DASHBOARD THAT SAID "REDUCE ENGINE POWER" AND THE CAR JERKED AND THE SPEED DRASTICALLY DROPPED FROM 65MPH TO ABOUT 20MPH. I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE AND WAS LUCKILY ABLE TO DRIVE TO AN EMERGENCY LANE WHILE CARS AND SEMI TRUCKS WERE BEHIND ME AND ALMOST HIT ME. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN AND THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON, BUT I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON IT AND THEY DETERMINED IT WAS A FAULTY GAS THROTTLE PEDAL AND SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP FOR A TOTAL OF TWO WEEKS, DUE TO THEM BEING OUT ON THE PARTS. I PAID OVER 500 DOLLARS FOR THE REPAIR. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER I WAS MERGING ON TO A HIGHWAY TO GO TO WORK AGAIN. AS I WAS MERGING ON THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND THE MESSAGE SAYING "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" CAME ON AGAIN. I LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATED AND PULLED OVER. I THEN TURNED MY CAR ON AND OFF AGAIN. THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED LIT AND THE "REDUCE ENGINE POWER" MESSAGE REMAINED ON THIS TIME. I WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE TO A MAX OF 35 MPH THIS TIME. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE SAME CHEVY DEALERSHIP. THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON IT AND THIS TIME THEY STATED IT COULD HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER AND SAID A OIL CHANGE MIGHT HELP. THE OIL WAS CHANGED ON THE VEHICLE AND THEN THE CALLED SAYING THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING VERY ROUGH WHEN THEY STARTED IT. THEY ALSO THEN STATED THAT THERE WAS CONDENSATION IN THE RADIATOR FROM THE COOLANT. THEY ARE STILL WAITING FOR PARTS AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN THERE ALMOST THREE WEEKS. TOTAL TIME IN THE SHOP WAS 5 WEEKS OUT OF 6 WEEKS.

ISSUE WITH CHEVROLET MALIBU 2017 WITH 60K MILES. I AM RIGHT AROUND THE TIME WHERE MY WARRANTY WOULD BE OVER, AND I HAVE HAVING ISSUES WITH A CAR THAT I DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY FOR 90-95% OF THE VEHICLES LIFE. MY CAR IS CUTTING THE POWER TO THE ENGINE AT RANDOM TIMES. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AROUND THE SAME PERCENTAGE OF TIMES THAT I'VE DRIVEN THE CAR IN TOTAL. I'VE HAD TO MOVE OVER TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE, AND SHUT THE CAR DOWN. IT WOULD POWER BACK UP, AND TYPICALLY I WOULD BE OK, BUT THIS IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS. THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD STAY ON UNTIL THE CAR SITS FOR A WHILE, AND THEN GO AWAY. THEN I WOULD DRIVE SEEMINGLY FINE, THEN BOOM, ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 65-70, AND THE ENGINE IS REDUCING POWER, AND I'M SCRAMBLING TO GET OVER. I AM TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH HAS BEEN THE ONLY MECHANIC TO LOOK AT MY VEHICLE. I DID RECEIVE NEW TIRES FROM ANOTHER PLACE, BUT ALL OTHER SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN WITH MY DEALERSHIP. I AM AFRAID I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS AND THIS IS A JOKE BECAUSE THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE. THERE ARE MANY THREADS EXPLAINING WHAT COULD BE THE ISSUE AND I WOULD LIKE A FOLLOW UP ON HOW MY EXPERIENCE WITH MY DEALERSHIP WENT. WHEN I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE LOCATION, THEY SEEMED TO BE EXTREMELY FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE I WAS HAVING. IT WAS STRANGE THAT I COULDN'T GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER EITHER WAY, AND I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT OF SOME KIND. NOT ONLY THAT, I'VE BEEN PUT IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY IN BAD WEATHER TRYING TO MANAGE, AS QUICKLY AND SAFELY AS I CAN, A WAY TO GET OVER TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE(SHOULDER). WHEN I PRESS MY ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN EVERYONE AROUND ME IS GOING AT A VERY HIGH RATE IS SPEED IS AN ISSUE NEEDLESS TO SAY. THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON A RECALL ISN'T ANNOUNCED FOR THIS ISSUE AND CHEVROLET HELD RESPONSIBLE.

I PURCHASED A 2017 CHEVY MALIBU LAST WEEK. I WAS LOOKING OVER THE DATA ON THE CHEVY WEBSITE. CHEVY IS LISTING TWO DIFFERENT HP RATINGS FOR THIS CAR. ONE AREA STATES 163HP & 184 LB-FT TORQUE. THE OTHER SAYS 160HP & 184 LB-FT TORQUE. THE MAIN ISSUE I HAVE IS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. GM SAYS THE CAR COMES WITH A 6T45 TRANSMISSION. THAT TRANSMISSION IS RATED AT 215HP & 232 LB-FT TORQUE. ENOUGH FOR THE RATED ENGINE. THE TRANSMISSION IN THE CAR IS A 6T40. RATED AT 180HP & 177 LB-FT TORQUE. THE TORQUE ON THE MOTOR IS 184 LB-FT AT 2500 RPM TO 3000 RPM. I WORK AND LIVE IN PHOENIX, AZ. 95% OF DRIVING IS CITY DRIVING. I AM PAST THE MAX OF THE TRANSMISSION MOST OF THE TIME. THIS TRANSMISSION WILL FAIL VERY FAST IN THIS HEAT. PLUS THE EPA FUEL RATING I'M SURE WAS CALCULATED WITH THE TRANSMISSION ADVERTISED BY GM NOT IN THE CAR. I OWN A CAR THAT IS NOT AT ALL WHAT I THOUGHT IT WAS.

THE CAR IS BRAND NEW SO THE ONLY THING I HAVE NOTICED IS HARD SHIFTING, BUT IN THE FUTURE I FEEL AS IF THIS COULD BECOME A PROBLEM.
