STEERING FAILURE WAS CATASTROPHIC. VEHICLE VEERED SUDDENLY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. MANAGED TO CONTROL VEHICLE, SLOW DOWN AND EXIT. UNIVERSAL JOINT FAILED WHEN NYLON CONNECTORS, APPROXIMATELY 1/4 INCH THICK, SHATTERING WITHOUT WARNING.

THIS WAS DUE TO THE THROW OUT BEARING, WHICH WAS REPLACED IN SEPT OF 92. BEARING WHEN OUT AGAIN IN JAN OF 97 AT 64,000 MILES. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. *AK
