THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO THE SYMPTOMS LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND A CASE NUMBER WAS PROVIDED. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. HAD TO HAVE ALL THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED. THE LINES BURST DUE TO THEM ALL BEING RUSTED OUT AND CORRODED. I HAVE A 1994 TOYOTA PICK UP TRUCK WITH MORE MILES THAN MY 1999 CHEVY SILVERADO AND THE BRAKE LINES ARE NOT RUSTED OR CORRODED GO FIGURE! I WAS APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. I PULLED OVER AND LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND SAW A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND UNDERNEATH THE DRIVERS DOOR AND GAS TANK. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED FOR $1066.33. I WAS CHARGE FOR 8 HOURS OF LABOR. I AM PISSED OFF AND WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHEVROLET VEHICLE, BECAUSE OF THEIR USE OF SUBSTANDARD MATERIAL ON THE MOST IMPORTANT PART (BRAKES) OF THEIR VEHICLES AND THEIR FAILING TO ACKNOWLEDGE & CORRECT THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THESE MODEL YEAR TRUCKS WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT TO THEIR ATTENTION, INSTEAD THEY MADE BOGUS EXCUSES AS TO WHY THESE BRAKE LINES WERE FAILING! I HAVE PURCHASE NINE CHEVROLET VEHICLES IN MY LIFE AND LIKE I STATED EARLIER I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHEVROLET AGAIN AND WILL DISCOURAGE EVERYONE I KNOW THAT IS IN THE MARKET TO PURCHASE A VEHICLE TO NOT BUY A CHEVROLET BECAUSE, THE WAY CHEVROLET FAILED TO RESOLVE THE BRAKE LINE PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

WHILE TOWING A HEAVY TRAILER AT 30 MPH, I ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. WITH NO BRAKE WARNING LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO BRAKING WHATEVER. I STOMPED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAS ABLE TO TAKE A HARD RIGHT TURN TO AVOID A COLLISION AND COASTED TO A STOP. LOOKING DOWN, THERE WAS A TRAIL OF BRAKE FLUID LEADING TO A LARGE PUDDLE UNDER THE DRIVER'S DOOR. LOOKING UNDER THE TRUCK REVEALED THAT INCREDIBLY RUSTED BRAKES LINES HAD BURST, DRAINING THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF THE FLUID RESERVOIR. CLOSER INSPECTION SHOWED THAT EVERY FOOT OF BRAKE LINE UNDER THE TRUCK WAS IN SIMILAR CONDITION! AFTER TOWING IT HOME, I DISCOVER WHY THE E-BRAKE FAILED; THE CABLE WAS RUSTED SOLID. I HAD TO ORDER A COMPLETE BRAKE LINE KIT AND SPENT THE ENTIRE WEEKEND REPLACING THEM. IT WAS THEN THAT I FOUND OUT THAT THOUSANDS OF OWNERS HAVE BEEN FIGHTING GM TO MAKE GOOD ON THIS DEFECT. WE NARROWLY ESCAPED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND SPENT A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF TIME AND MONEY, BESIDES HAVING TO BORROW A VEHICLE TO GET TO WORK FOR A WEEK.

WHEN SLOWING THE TRUCK DOWN THE VEHICLE ABS ACTIVATES PREVENTING THE VEHICLE FROM STOPPING UNLESS YOU EITHER RELEASE AND REAPPLY THE BRAKE OR COLLIDE WITH THE OBJECT IN FRONT OF YOU. 2. BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION. WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY PULLING A 4,000 POUND TRAILER THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURED UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR CAUSING A LOSS OF BRAKES. I HAD THOUGHT THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS CROSSED TYPE SYSTEM AND THAT I SHOULD HAVE HAD BRAKE PRESSURE ON THE REMAINING INTACT LINES BUT THE PEDAL WAS SO SOFT I DON'T BELIEVE THERE WERE ANY BRAKES. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM UNDER EMERGENCY FAILURE.

THIS EXACT PROBLEM HAPPENED TO MY GRANDFATHERS 2001 SILVERADO NOT MORE THAT 3 MONTHS AGO.

THIS TRUCK WAS DRIVEN IN MINNESOTA SINCE 1999. ALL THE BRAKE LINES HAVE BEEN REPLACED ON THIS TRUCK DUE TO CORROSION. I DROVE THE TRUCK ON A FOUR LINE ROAD. THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED TO YELLOW AND I TRIED TO STOP BUT THE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR.THIS TRUCK HAD SUCH BAD BRAKE LINES THAT WHEN BLEEDING THE BRAKE LINES FOR THE FRONT LINE ANOTHER LEAK STARTED OUT ONE OF THE REAR LINES. THIS IS A CLEAR SAFETY CONCERN FOR OWNERS OF A CHEVROLET SILVERADO.

GM PARTS PERSON SAID IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THAT THEY SELL A BRAKE LINE REPLACEMENT SET BUT HAD NOT ISSUED A RECALL AND DID NOT COVER THE COST OF PARTS OR LABOR (WHY?).

WAS DRIVING AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT SLOPPY. UPON INVESTIGATION I HAD TO REPLACE ALL REAR BRAKE LINES, AND ONE OF THE FRONT DO TO RUST. AS I WAS REPLACING THESE I NOTICED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND CRACKED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE UNDER THE DOOR. I HAD A PATCH PUT IN, BUT JUST THE OTHER DAY I ALSO NOTICED A NEW SPOT ON THE FRAME WHERE IT BENDS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE RIGHT BEHIND THE MOTOR. THE FRAME IS SO WEAK IN THIS SPOT, I DON'T BELIEVE THAT IT CAN BE REPAIRED.

KNOWING THIS YEAR CHEVROLET TRUCK HAS THE BRAKE LINE RUST PROBLEM, I ALWAYS POWER WASH THE UNDERCARRIAGE.

BRAKE LINES WERE TOTALLY RUSTED. TRUCK HAS A GOOD ENGINE, BUT TERRIBLE RUST ON BRAKE LINES, FRAME, LOWER BODY PANEL BEHIND DOORS. PAINT PEALING OFF HOOD AND ROOF.

THERE ARE SEVERAL LINES THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE SIX GM CARS AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. MY 1957 AND 1963 AND 1964 BRAKE LINES ARE IN GREAT SHAPE. INVESTIGATION OF THE LINES FOUND CORROSION THROUGHOUT THE BRAKE SYSTEM, PARTICULARLY AROUND THE ABS CONTROLLER, LOCATED AT THE MIDPOINT OF THE VEHICLE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE INSIDE FRAME RAIL. IN TALKING WITH FRIENDS/CO-WORKERS I LEARNED OF TWO INCIDENTS, ONE WITH A 2002 SILVERADO 2500 HAVING A SIMILAR FAILURE WHERE THE LINE FAILED AT STOP WHILE THE LINE WAS UNDER PRESSURE. ANOTHER FRIEND HAD A FAILURE IN HIS 2001 SILVERADO 1500 WHILE APPLYING BRAKES TO STOP A THE BOTTOM OF A HILL. THE BRAKES FAILED DUE TO A RUPTURED LINE AND THE OWNER WAS ABLE TO GEAR DOWN, ROLL THROUGH THE STOP SIGN AND TURN ONTO A SIDE ROAD. A HIGHER PROFILE INCIDENT INVOLVED A CO-WORKER WITH A 2001 SILVERADO 2500 PULLING A TRAVEL TRAILER. WHILE COMING TO A STOP, THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AND THE VEHICLE RAN THE RED LIGHT. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO DAVIS AUTO AND WAS TOLD TODAY THAT ALL BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED, WITH NO WAY TO SPLICE, AND ALL WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. AS I CAME THROUGH THE INTERSECTION THE CAR SUDDENLY CHANGED LANES INTO THE LEFT LANE IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. THE CAR THAT CHANGED LANES IN FRONT OF ME WAS ONLY GOING APPROXIMATELY 5-10 MPH. WITH MY VEHICLE TRAVELING 45 MPH I HAD TO SLAM ON MY BREAKS AND HORN AT THE SAME TIME AND THE CAR SWITCHED BACK INTO THE RIGHT LANE. MY BREAKS WORKED FOR ABOUT A SECOND BEFORE THE PETAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I TRIED THE EMERGENCY BREAK WHICH DID NOT WORK EITHER. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL INTO A PARKING LOT WITHOUT CAUSING A CRASH. THE BRAKE LINE BUSTED RIGHT UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR BEHIND THE FRONT TIRE. I WAS OPERATING MY VEHICLE A APPROX. 30 MPH AND WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD NO WARNING . BRAKES FAILED ON MY 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO IN JUNE OF 2007 AS MY WIFE APPROACHED OUR DRIVEWAY. MY WIFE WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND HAD TO COAST TO A STOP AND PULL TO THE SHOULDER. IF THIS BRAKE FAILURE HAD HAPPENED AT ANOTHER PLACE OR TIME, THERE LIKELY WOULD HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. CHEVROLET DEALER SAID THAT THE FRONT BRAKE LINE HAD FAILED AND FABRICATED A STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINE TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL. THE INCIDENT COST ME $1100 TO REPLACE THE BRAKE LINE. THE SILVERADO HAD APPROXIMATELY 46,200 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. IN A SECOND REPORT TO THE NHTSA, I REPORTED THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINE HAD FAILED ABOUT FIVE YEARS LATER AND AT 90,000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING WITH A POTENTIAL BUYER RIDING ALONG. WE HAD REACHED AN OPEN FARM FIELD AT THE EDGE OF TOWN AND HAD ENGAGED THE 4X4 TO VERIFY IT. AFTER FOUR-WHEELING A BIT, WE HEADED BACK TO THE MAIN ROAD, BUT WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW FROM 35 MPH TO STOP AND DISENGAGE THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE, THE BRAKE PEDAL PLUNGED TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY FAILURE WARNING, AND WE CONTINUED SAILING OUT ONTO THE STATE HIGHWAY COMPLETELY UNRESTRICTED AND STILL TRAVELING AT ABOUT 25 MPH. I HAD A BRAKE LINE FAILURE UNDER A HARD BRAKING CONDITION (FIRM, BUT NOT PANIC STOP). THE HARD LINE FROM THE ABS PUMP TO THE REAR AXLE FAILED JUST ABOVE THE FLEX HOSE COUPLING. I WAS TRAVELING AT 48 MPH WHILE APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I DID A QUICK HEAD CHECK AND HAD TO QUICKLY TURN INTO THE LEFT TURN LANE TO AVOID REAR ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS VERY LUCKY TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP AFTER I CROSSED 3 FEET INTO THE INTERSECTION WHERE A VEHICLE TRAVELING FROM THE WEST HAD TO SWERVE TO MISS THE PROTRUDING FRONT CLIP OF MY TRUCK. ONCE I GOT THE VEHICLE HOME, I PROCEEDED TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM, I FOUND IT WAS A SEVERELY RUSTED BRAKE LINE UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR GOING INTO THE ANTI-LOCK CONTROL MODUAL THAT HAD RUPTURED. AT THAT POINT I REALIZED THAT ALL THE BREAK LINES WERE IN THE SAME SEVERELY RUSTED CONDITION AND MUST BE REPLACED BEFORE TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK ON THE ROAD. I CANT BELIEVE THIS HAS BEEN UNDER INVESTIGATION SINCE EARLY 2012 & NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THIS SAFETY ISSUE. WHAT ELSE CAN I DO TO SPEED THE RESOLUTION UP? THE ONLY REASON I WAS ABLE TO STOP IS BECAUSE I WAS NOT GOING THE FULL SPEED LIMIT DUE TO GROCERIES STACKED ON THE SEAT BESIDE ME; WITH DOWNSHIFTING TO LOW RANGE ONE AND PUMPING THE BRAKES REPEATEDLY TO GAIN MAYBE 5 TO 10% PRESSURE, I ONLY STOPPED ABOUT 5 TO 10 FEET BEHIND THE OFFICER. ADD ANOTHER 10-15 MPH AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP. AN AVERAGE DRIVER WOULD HAVE MOST LIKELY WRECKED AT FULL SPEED. THE LINE BURST ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, UNDER WHERE THE DOOR JAM STARTS. ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED. I'VE HAD TWO 1971 CHEVY TRUCKS AND A 1964 PLYMOUTH VALIANT CONVERTIBLE AND NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM EVER HAD A BRAKE LINE PROBLEM. THE ROCKER PANELS ARE ALSO RUSTED OUT. THE TRUCK BED IS RUSTED ON ALL SIDES AS WELL. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE STRAPS HOLDING THE GAS TANK ON. THEY WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED. I HAD ONE STRAP THAT HAD FALLEN OFF WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR. *TR

BRAKE LINE BURST AND RENDERED MY TRUCK BRAKELESS. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY RUST PRONE BRAKELINES THEY PUT ON THESE TRUCKS. I WAS LUCKY THAT IT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS STOPPED. *TT
