The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that there was a gap between the cab and the bed of the vehicle, and that the subframe of the vehicle was corroded. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent dealer and the contact was informed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The contact did not believe that the diagnostic result was not relative to the failure. Additionally, the contact stated that there were rust spots underneath the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000.

The frame and suspension has overly corroded. The frame is falling apart so bad that when I shut the driver's door chunks of metal fall to the ground. I've had it assessed and they say it should not be this bad. Even in Michigan
I WENT TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE AND WHEN THE GARAGE WENT TO LIFT THE TRUCK THE FRAME BUCKLED. THERE WAS SO MUCH RUST DAMAGE THAT THE FRAME WAS SOFT IN NUMEROUS PLACES. THE 1999 SILVERADO Z71 1500 TRUCK IS AN LT WITH ONLY 104,000 MILES. IT HAS BEEN GARAGED SINCE I PURCHASED IT NEW. IT LOOKS AND RUNS GREAT! THE BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT 10 YEARS AGO AND I REPLACED WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES.

THE FULL SIZE SPARE TIRE THAT IS MOUNTED UNDER THE REAR OF VEHICLE FELL OFF INTO TRAFFIC WHILE MAKING A SLOW TURN, ON A FLAT, SMOOTH CONCRETE CITY STREET AT 4 MPH.THE TINY CABLE THAT HOLDS THE WHEEL RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. THIS IS A DEADLY HAZARD! SOMEONE WILL GET KILLED BY THIS FLAW EVENTUALLY

THE FRAME RAIL ON THE LEFT SIDE IS BROKEN IN 2 PLACES UNDER THE CAB AREA. THE FRAME BROKE WHILE DRIVING. NOW THE CAB SAGS 1 IN LOWER WHERE THE CAB MEETS THE BOX. BODY LINES NO LONGER MATCH UP. THERE IS NO REASON A 18 YR OLD TRUCK WITH A MINT CONDITION BODY AND ONLY DRIVEN APPROX 17500 KM PER YEAR SHOULD BREAK THE WAY IT DID. THIS PERFECTLY GOOD STEP SIDE TRUCK IS NOW USELESS AND COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE.

A COUPLE MONTHS AGO, I BOUGHT A 1999 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 Z71 WITH 77,000 ACTUAL MILES THAT WAS FOR SALE ON CRAIGSLIST. THE GENTLEMAN ADVERTISED THE TRUCK IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, WITH NO RUST. WHEN I TEST DROVE THE TRUCK, I NOTICED IT NEEDED NEW A EXHAUST, AND SHOCKS. THE FOG LIGHTS WERE BROKEN, AND THE TURN SIGNAL LENSES WERE EXTREMELY CLOUDY. THIS IS NORMAL ON A OLDER VEHICLE. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN SETTING IN THE GARAGE, SINCE I DROVE IT HOME. THE GENTLEMAN TOLD ME THAT ALL THE RECEIPTS ARE IN THE GLOVE BOX, FROM WORK THAT WAS DONE ON THE TRUCK. I WENT THROUGH THE RECEIPTS, AND MOST OF THEM WERE FROM OIL CHANGES. SINCE I DON'T KNOW THE HISTORY OF THE TRUCK, IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO DO A TUNE-UP, AND CHANGE ALL THE FILTERS AND FLUIDS. I SPENT OVER A $1,000 NOT INCLUDING LABOR, ON SHOCKS, EXHAUST SYSTEM, TURN SIGNAL LENSES, FOG LIGHTS, FILTERS, FLUIDS, SPARK PLUGS, AND IGNITION WIRES. I JACKED THE TRUCK UP, SO THAT I COULD REPLACE THE EXHAUST. WHEN I CRAWLED UNDER THE TRUCK, I NOTICED THE FRAME AND FRAME CROSS MEMBERS WERE EXTREMELY RUSTY. THE TRUCK WAS ADVERTISED IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, WITH NO RUST! I STARTED REMOVING THE OLD EXHAUST, AND MY HAND WENT THROUGH ONE OF THE FRAME CROSS MEMBERS. THE GAS TANK HANGS FROM THIS PARTICULAR FRAME CROSS MEMBER. HOW CAN THE TRUCK BODY BE SO NICE, BUT THE FRAME BE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT? IF WE HAD STATE INSPECTIONS, THERE'S NO WAY THE TRUCK WOULD PASS INSPECTION! I HAVE A 1995 GMC SIERRA THAT'S NEVER HAD ANY BODY RUST, OR RUST ON THE FRAME! I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, AND FOUND OUT IT'S COMMON FOR THE FRAMES TO BE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT ON THE GM TRUCKS BUILD FROM 1999 - 2007. THERE'S MILLIONS OF THESE TRUCKS ON THE ROAD, AND THE FUEL TANK, SPARE TIRE, OR REAR-END COULD EASILY FALL OFF! WHY ISN'T GM RECALLING THESE TRUCKS, AND REPLACING THE RUSTED OUT FRAMES? I HAVE A 2007 FORD F150 THAT DOESN'T HAVE ANY BODY RUST, OR FRAME RUST!

WAS DRIVING AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT SLOPPY. UPON INVESTIGATION I HAD TO REPLACE ALL REAR BRAKE LINES, AND ONE OF THE FRONT DO TO RUST. AS I WAS REPLACING THESE I NOTICED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND CRACKED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE UNDER THE DOOR. I HAD A PATCH PUT IN, BUT JUST THE OTHER DAY I ALSO NOTICED A NEW SPOT ON THE FRAME WHERE IT BENDS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE RIGHT BEHIND THE MOTOR. THE FRAME IS SO WEAK IN THIS SPOT, I DON'T BELIEVE THAT IT CAN BE REPAIRED.

AFTER ALL THE RUSTED PARTS; FUEL TANK THAT STRAP TANK FELL OUT. BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH LOST BRAKES AND NOW WE ARE TOLD FRAME HAS RUSTED THAT CAUSE OUR FUEL LINE TO RUPTURED. WHEN WILL GENERAL MOTORS STEP UP AND TAKE CARE OF THESE TRUCKS THAT ARE RUST BUCKETS.

SAW THIS RIGHT AFTER BUYING IT BUT THE DEALER WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING. WE HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICES. THE WORSE THING THAT HAPPENED WAS WHEN THE BRAKES WENT OUT ON MY WIFE WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY ABOUT AN HOUR AWAY FROM HOME. THE FRONT SHOCKS WERE BAD WITH 553 MILES. THE EGR VALVE WENT OUT THE FIRST WEEK WE HAD THE TRUCK. THE BRAKE LINES, BRAKE SENSORS AND ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED 7 TIMES. AS OF TODAY THIS TRUCK HAS 52,000 MILES AND IT IS 15 YEARS OLD. LAST YEAR WE FOUND OUT WE HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE BACK HALF OF THE FRAME OF OUR 1999 CHEVY SILVERADO. WE TOOK IT IN FOR A REPAIR AND WHEN THEY WENT TO TAKE SOMETHING OFF THE BACK END, THE FRAME FELL APART IN HIS HANDS. I AM HEARING MORE AND MORE PEOPLE SAYING THEY'RE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT COST US $2500 TO HAVE THE FRAME REPLACED. I FEEL GM SHOULD BE RECALLING THESE FRAMES AND DOING THE RIGHT THING FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. I ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THEM AND NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THEM. THIS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS, THIS CAN BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IF THESE FRAMES DECIDE TO FALL APART ON THE ROAD WHILE THE PERSON IS DRIVING. I'M SURE IT'S HAPPENED ALREADY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO C1500 EXTENDED CAB. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT BOTH OF THE TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE TAILGATE TO DROP DOWN TO THE BUMPER WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. SHE HAD TO EXCESSIVELY PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO EFFECTIVELY STOP THE VEHICLE. ON ONE OCCASION, THE BRAKE PEDAL NEARLY EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE ABS SENSORS ON THE BRAKES WERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS 06V066000 (STRUCTURE:BODY:TAILGATE:HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS) AND 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 97,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 93,000.

THE DEALER STATED THAT BECAUSE HE DID NOT HAVE THE ORIGINAL STRAPS, THEY WOULD NOT MAKE THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE DEALER WOULD ALSO NOT REPAIR THE TAILGATE HINGES AS STATED IN THE RECALL LETTER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT PLACED BAD GASOLINE IN HIS VEHICLE ONCE AND HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. WHILE REMOVING THE TANK, HE NOTICED THAT THE FRAME WAS CORRODED AND HAD SPREAD TO THE REAR BUMPER. THE AUTO GARAGE STATED THAT THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REBUILT. THE REPAIR COST WOULD EXCEED $1,500; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT IS UNABLE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE MANUFACTURER FILED A REPORT AND SENT AN INVESTIGATOR TO INSPECT THE FRAME, AND CONCLUDED THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS OVER EIGHT YEARS OLD. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 145,000.

I AM SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE GM HAS NOT REIMBURSED ME FOR A RECALL IN WHICH I PAID FOR OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. THE REIMBURSEMENT AMOUNT IS MINUSCULE AND WOULD HAVE BEEN FAR LESS THAN WHAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD HAVE CHARGED BACK TO GM. PLEASE SEE THE DETAIL TO THIS COMPLAINT BELOW. APRIL 2006 I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM GM, IT STATED THE FOLLOWING: 1. YOUR 1999 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET SILVERADO, IS INVOLVED IN A SAFETY RECALL 06019. 2. SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR CHEVROLET DEALER. 3. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE. I DO NOT RECALL THE SPECIFIC DATES BUT I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY LOCAL DEALER WILSON CHEVROLET, STILLWATER OK, I CALLED AND MADE THE APPOINTMENT ON MONDAY AND SCHEDULED THE APPOINTMENT FOR THAT WEDNESDAY. THAT WEDNESDAY I ARRIVED AT 8:00 AM ON TIME AT WILSON CHEVROLET. I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE GENTLEMEN AT THE DESK AND HE PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT I HAD HAVE TO LEAVE MY VEHICLE. THEY DID NOT OFFER TO GIVE ME A RIDE TO WORK OR ANYTHING, SIMPLY STATING I COULD RESCHEDULE. RESCHEDULE WAS OUT OF THE QUESTION DUE TO I HAD ALREADY TAKEN A LEAVE OF ABSENCE FROM WORK AND THE DEALERSHIP WAS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF TOWN; IT WAS A 30 MINUTE DRIVE ROUND TRIP FROM MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT. CONSIDERING MY OPTIONS I REMEMBERED THAT IN THE MAILING GM HAD PROVIDED A REIMBURSEMENT FORM. I OPT TO PURCHASE THE CABLES FROM THE DEALER AND REPLACE THEM MYSELF AND FILE A REIMBURSEMENT WITH GM. I ISSUED A REIMBURSEMENT TO GM USING THEIR FORM, I ASKED FOR A REIMBURSEMENT OF $44.44, THE COST OF THE CABLES INCLUDING TAX. ON OCTOBER 16, 2006, A FEW MONTHS LATER AFTER SUBMITTING THE REIMBURSEMENT REQUEST I RECEIVED A DENIAL LETTER DENYING REIMBURSEMENT, NO REASON WAS GIVEN. I ASK NTHSA TO LOOK INTO THESE CLAIMS AS I AM NOT AWARE OF MY RIGHTS TO SEEK REIMBURSEMENT ON A RECALL THAT GM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR. *JB
