WHEN BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS WOULD COME ON AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP ON SOLID DRY PAVEMENT. UPON MY INVESTIGATION WHAT I FOUND WAS THE FRONT HUB BEARING SEAL RUSTED OUT. THIS CAUSED ROAD SALTS/WATER TO ENTER THE HUB ASSY.. THIS THEN CREATED A RUST THAT GATHERED ON THE MAGNETIC ABS SPEED SENSOR . THE GM CAMPAIGN UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 SAYS THIS IS DUE TO AN EXTERIOR RUST ISSUE. THIS IS NOT WHAT I FOUND ! WHEN THE GM PROCEDURE TO REPAIR THIS IS DONE , IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM FOR A SHORT TIME BECAUSE THE RUSTED GREASE IS REMOVED FROM THE SENSOR TIP . I REPLACED BOTH FRONT HUB ASSY AND THIS IS NOW NOT A DEFECT . MY COMPLAINT IS THAT MANY HAVE REPORTED THAT , THIS IS A ONE TIME FIX, SO IT IS MY BELIEF GM SOLD THIS QUICK FIX TO NHTSA TO CHEAP OUT ON THE REAL FIX , WHICH IS TO REPLACE THE FRONT HUB ASSY AND USE SEALS WITH A RUST RESISTANT METAL . IT IS A LOT CHEAPER TO REMOVE THE RUST OFF THE SENSOR TIP , THAN TO FIX THE REAL CAUSE WHICH IS A RUSTED DAMAGED HUB ASSY DUE TO POOR METAL QUALITY OF THE GREASE/HUB BEARING SEAL. I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON TRANSPORTATION VEHICLES SINCE 1977 INCLUDING VEHICLES WITH ABS BRAKING SYSTEMS . *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR ABRUPTLY WHEN ENGAGED. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED REPEATEDLY HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED OFF THE ROAD IN A BACK AND FORTH MOTION ONTO A GRASSY SURFACE UNTIL REACHING A PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP AFTER DRIVING OVER A SPEED BUMP. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND PLACED A RUBBER HOSE OVER THE HOLES IN THE FAULTY BRAKE LINES AND SECURED WITH SUPPORT CLAMPS. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE RESIDENCE AT AN EXTREMELY LOW SPEED. THE CONTACT REPLACED BOTH FRONT BRAKE LINES AND MAIN LINES HIMSELF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

VEHICLE CAME TO STOP IN FRONT OF ME. DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND HAD TO SWERVE OFF THE ROAD AND INTO THE DITCH OF THE HIGHWAY TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT WITH THE OTHER VEHICLE. LEARNED THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED OUT AND CAUSED A SIGNIFICANT LEAK. UPON RESEARCHING THIS, FOUND OUT THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE, AND THAT THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION EA11001 THAT HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR CLOSE TO 2 YEARS. 800+ REPORTS EXIST. THOUSANDS MORE UNREPORTED IN VARIOUS INTERNET FORUMS. WHEN WILL THIS BE RESOLVED WITH A VEHICLE SAFETY RECALL, BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED? THIS IS A BAD DESIGN, DUE TO STEEL BRAKE LINES, AND DESIGNED TO COLLECT MOISTURE AND SALT BY MEANS OF SPRING MATERIAL ON EXTERIOR OF LINES, AND LINES GROUPED TOGETHER DIRECTLY BEHIND THE SPLASH COMING OFF THE FRONT TIRE. IT IS AN OBVIOUS FLAW. FURTHERMORE, GM APPARENTLY DOES NOT HAVE GM REPLACEMENT (CERTIFIED?) SET OF BRAKE LINES. IS IT GOING TO TAKE A FATAL CRASH TO FINALLY RESOLVE THIS? *TR

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED AND BOTH ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VINE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. APPLIED THE BRAKES AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE PEDAL HIT THE FLOOR. ON INSPECTION I COULD SEE FLUID LEAKING FROM THE BRAKE LINE. TOOK IT TO THE CHEVY DEALER WHO TELLS ME ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUST, AS WELL AS THE ABS AND CALIPER. I HAD THE ABS SENSORS REPLACED 2-3 YEARS AGO DUE TO RUST, AT A SERVICE CENTER NOT AT THE DEALER, AND NOW THE REPLACEMENT ONES ARE BAD. SO I'M THINKING GM IS USING SUBSTANDARD PARTS AND REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE EVEN MORE SUBSTANDARD. THE ABS SENSORS WERE ALREADY UNDER RECALL, I HAVING NOT UNDERSTOOD HOW RECALLS WORKED TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR THE REPAIRS AFTER RECEIVING NOTICE OF A RECALL, BEFORE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS. SO WHEN I DID HAVE PROBLEMS THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE ALREADY EXHAUSTED; I INQUIRED WHAT THE DEALER DID WHEN I TOOK IT TO THEM FOR RECALL; THE DEALER TOLD ME THE CLEANED THE ABS SENSORS TO SATISFY THE RECALL ORDER. SO 2-3 YEARS AGO I HAD THEM REPLACED WHEN THEY DID RUST AND FAIL, NOW THEY ARE ACTING UP AGAIN AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. SO NOW THEY WANT $3,200 TO REPLACE BRAKE LINES, CALIPER AND ABS. *KB

THE BRAKE LINE RUNNING FROM ABS UNIT TO REAR OF TRUCK RUPTURED IN A PARKING LOT IN JULY OF 2010. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, IN DECEMBER OF 2010, BOTH BRAKE LINES RUNNING FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO ABS UNIT RUPTURED WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. I NOTICED THE FRONT BRAKE LINES GOING FROM ABS UNIT TO EACH FRONT CALIPER WERE CORRODED IN EARLY MARCH 2012 AND REPLACED BEFORE THEY COULD RUPTURE. IT'S A GOOD THING I REPLACED THEM BECAUSE BARELY MOVING THE LINES RESULTED IN RUPTURES IN BOTH LINES BEFORE THEY COULD BE UNTHREADED TO BE REPLACED. (IT DID NOT ALWAYS HAPPEN, ONLY WHEN IT FELT LIKE IT) HOWEVER, WERE ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF WE HAD TO STOP ALL OF A SUDDEN FOR AN EMERGENCY. LUCKY THAT NEVER HAPPENED. THE LAST TIME MY WIFE CAME IN THE DRIVEWAY AND CAME WITHIN INCHES OF HITTING OUR GARAGE DOOR, THAT WAS IT! THE TRUCK HAS BEEN PARKED FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS. WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. ABOUT 1 1/2 WEEKS AGO MY WIFE TYPED IN "2000 SILVERADO BRAKE PROBLEMS" ON THE COMPUTER AND WE WERE AMAZED TO PULL UP 59 PAGES OF COMPLAINTS FROM CONSUMERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS OF 1999 TO 2006 SILVERADO AND GMC SIERRA WHICH ARE BEING INVESTIGATED BY YOUR OFFICE ALREADY. THAT IS WHEN WE PUT 2 AND 2 TOGETHER WITH THE COMPLAINTS OF THE BRAKELINES RUPTURING UPON QUICK HEAVY BRAKING, AS WAS IN MANY COMPLAINTS ALSO, THAT MAY HAVE BEEN THE REASON THAT OUR SON HAD THE ACCIDENT WITH THIS TRUCK IN SEPT. OF 2010. HE WAS DRIVING IN VERY HEAVY TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE, CRAWLING ALONG, WHEN SOMEONE HAD PULLED IN FRONT OF HIM AND HE HAD TO SLAM ON HIS BRAKE - HIS BRAKES FAILED BECAUSE OF THE LINE BURSTING AND HE HIT AN EXPENSIVE TRAFFIC INFO SIGN AND DID $4000 DAMAGE TO OUR TRUCK. HE CHOSE TO GO FOR THE SIGN INSTEAD OF INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND PROBABLY KILLING SOMEONE. THEN WE CALLED OUR CHEVY. DEALER, $110 TO DIAGNOSE, THEN GM AND THEY REFUSE TO HELP US UNTIL WE TAKE IT IN AND PAY FOR A DIAGNOSIS. *TR

THE CONTACT DISCONNECTED THE ABS FUSE TO USE THE MANUAL BRAKING SYSTEM BECAUSE CLEANING OF THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE ON THE BEARINGS DID NOT WORK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO INSPECTED THE BRAKE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ALREADY REPAIRED IN 2005 AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND REPAIRS TO THE BRAKES. THEY OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AS IT TURNED YELLOW I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND FELT THE BRAKE PEDAL GO TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS NOT BRAKES, AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKES I DID SLOW DOWN, BUT I PROCEEDED THROUGH THE LIGHT (WHICH WAS RED NOW.) WITH MY YELLOW FLASHING LIGHT ON. I THEN PROCEEDED TO THE NEXT SAFE ZONE TO PULL OVER AND ASSESS THE BRAKES. FOUND A BROKEN BRAKE LINE UNDER DRIVER SEAT ON TOP OF FRAME RAIL. *TR

THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS I HAVE HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS OF ALMOST CRASHING INTO BUILDINGS OR OTHER VEHICLES AS THIS PROBLEM IS CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE! I EXPERIENCED PRESSURE AND SLIGHT JERKING THEN COMPLETE FAILURE AS THE BRAKE HIT THE FLOOR CAUSING COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL! I HAVE HAD 2 SEPARATE MECHANICS DIAGNOSE THIS PROBLEM AND BOTH DO NOT FIND ANYTHING MECHANICALLY WRONG WITH IT AND NO DASH SENSORS INDICATED OR ERROR CODES FOUND. ONE MECHANIC CHECKED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS AND NO ERROR. I HAVE PAID TO HAVE MY BRAKES AND WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED AND THIS DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE AND IT WAS EXPENSIVE. I AM FRUSTRATED AND BEGAN SEARCHING RECALL NOTICES & FOUND THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE AND CHEVY ISSUED A RECALL NOTICE #05068 IN: IOWA, MINNESOTA, MICHIGAN, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, OHIO, ETC. THE "SALT BELT", THE PROBLEM ON TOP OF BRAKE FAILURE IS THAT I RESIDE IN SOUTH DAKOTA! AND I AM NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL OF MY SURROUNDING STATES. NOW I HAVE JUST GOTTEN OFF THE PHONE WITH CHEVY AT THEIR 800 NUMBER, AND WAS TOLD NO RECALL LISTED FOR MY VIN# & MOST LIKELY I WILL PAY FOR REPAIRS OF THEIR DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. *TR

I WAS TRAVELING WEST BOUND IN THE CENTER LANE OF INTERSTATE 50 AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MILES PER HOUR WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE ABRUPTLY CHANGED LANES IN FRONT OF ME WHILE CROSSING THE SEVERN RIVER BRIDGE IN MARYLAND. I ABRUPTLY APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS A TOTAL LOSS OF THE MAIN AND EMERGENCY BRAKES. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY DOWN SHIFT AND COAST TO THE SHOULDER. UPON INSPECTION, I FOUND A BRAKE LINE UNDER THE CABIN AND UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT HAD CORRODED AND BROKEN AT THE HANGER AND BRAKE FLUID WAS DRAINING FROM THE LINE. *KB

JUST BOUGHT THIS TRUCK USED LESS THAN A MONTH AGO, AND IT PASSED NYS INSPECTION WITH NO PROBLEMS (94,000 MI. ON IT). WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT AND STOPPED TO BACK INTO A SPACE WHEN THE BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. PARKED THE TRUCK AND OPENED THE HOOD TO VERIFY FLUID IN THE MASTER (OK) THEN LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND FOUND A SMALL (BUT GROWING) PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID. WAS ABLE TO NURSE IT HOME (LOW SPEEDS, EBRAKE) AND JACK IT UP TO FIND THE LEAK. THE LEAK IS ONE OF THE 4 LINES ABOVE THE FRAME NEAR THE ANTILOCK CONTROL. TO MY SURPRISE ALL 4 LINES ARE VERY RUSTY AND ALL WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS WILL BE A MAJOR COST BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE. THE LINES LOOK OK EVERYWHERE ELSE EXCEPT FOR THIS 2 FOOT SECTION WHERE THEY ARE BUNDLED AND RIDE ON TOP OF THE FRAME. FRONT BRAKE LINE RUSTED THRU. TRUCK HAD TO TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. 8 FEET OF BRAKE LINE WAS REPAIRED. WHILE THE MECHANIC WAS UNDER THE TRUCK HE SAID THIS WAS ONLY THE START, ALL THE BRAKE LINES HAVE VERY HEAVY RUST. UPON INSPECTION BY ME, I SAW EXACTLY WHAT THE MECHANIC WAS STATING. I WAS DOING A SIMPLE U TURN ON MY STREET WHEN THE BRAKES LET OUT. THERE WAS NO BRAKING AT ALL, THE PEDAL WAS TO THE FLOOR. IT WAS VERY LUCKY I WAS DOING LESS THAN 5 MPH. THE REPAIR AT THE SHOP COST ME $980.00. FOUR CALIPERS HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO HEAVY RUSTING. THIS TRUCK IS A MAINTAINED VEHICLE. YES I DO LIVE IN LONG ISLAND N.Y. WHERE THERE IS SNOW REMOVAL BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS TYPE OF RUST ON ANY OF MY VEHICLES. I KEEP MANY OF MY VEHICLES FOR 15 YEARS DO TO THE LOW MILEAGE I PUT ON A VEHICLE. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS MUCH RUST ON THEIR BRAKE LINES NOR HAVE I EVER HAD A BRAKE RUST THRU. IN ADDITION I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT IF THE FRONT BRAKES WERE LOST YOU WOULD HAVE THE REAR BRAKES WORKING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. NOT SO ON THIS VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE HAS LOTS OF RUST ON ALL ITS BRAKE LINES. DRIVE SAFETY IS AN ISSUE THAT CERTAINLY SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. THE TRUCK IS UNSAFE AND A CORRECTION RECALL SHOULD BE INSTITUTED. MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT WHEN ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON THAT YOUR ABS BRAKES WILL BE DISABLED. TALKED TO A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR MATTER. BY DOWNSHIFTING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TO 2ND AND THEN 1ST GEAR I WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE RIGHT-HAND TURN AT THE INTERSECTION ONTO THE BERM OF THE ROAD. EARLIER THAT DAY I HAD COME DOWN THE BLUE MOUNTAIN AT STERRET'S GAP IN PENNSYLVANIA. HAD THE FAILURE OCCURRED THEN I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO REPORT IT. I OWN A 2000 CHEVY 1500 TRUCK. ON JUNE 24, 2011, I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY, ON MY WAY TO WORK AND THE PEDDLE FOR THE BREAKS WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. NO BRAKES. LUCKILY I AM A POLICE OFFICER AND WAS TRAINED ON WHAT TO DO IN THIS SITUATION AND I FOUND IT PRIOR TO NEEDING THEM FOR AN ABRUPT STOP. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION, I FOUND THE BRAKE LINE TO THE REAR AXEL HAD RUSTED THROUGH UNDER THE CAB. I REMOVED THE BED OF THE TRUCK AND REPLACED THE LINE. I THEN EXAMINED THE OTHER BRAKE LINES AND FOUND ALL THE BRAKE LINES TO BE COMPLETELY RUSTED. THIS RUSTING IS PREMATURE FOR A 2000 YEAR VEHICLE. MY 2001 VOLKSWAGEN'S BRAKE LINES STILL LOOK LIKE NEW AND IT HAS FIFTY THOUSAND MORE MILES. THIS PREMATURE RUSTING IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. IF I NEEDED THE BRAKES FOR AN EMERGENCY STOP, OR DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO IN THE EVENT OF NO BRAKES, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS PERSONAL OR PROPERTY DAMAGE. I WAS BRAKING WHILE EXITING MY LOCAL EXIT ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN HYDRAULIC BRAKE PRESSURE WAS SUDDENLY AND COMPLETELY LOST, SENDING THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. ACCORDING TO OFFICE OF DEFECTS INVESTIGATION THERE ARE 110 OWNER COMPLAINTS SUCH AS MINE. THE COMPLAINTS ALLEGE THE LOSS OF BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS DUE TO BRAKE LINE RUPTURE BECAUSE OF CORROSION. I JUST READ IN PAPER ABOUT A NHTSA INVESTIGATION INTO BRAKE FAILURE ON OLDER MODEL CHEVY TRUCKS. I LIVE IN NEW YORK. THE TRUCK IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF, REGULARLY SERVICED, AND HAD JUST ABOVE 80,00 MILES. THE DEALER TOLD ME I WAS LUCKY THE BRAKE LINES DID NOT RUPTURE WHEN I WAS DRIVING. THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURE WAS BECAUSE OF CORROSION, AND THE DEALER BACK HOME TOLD ME THAT ALL THE OTHER BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF CORROSION. I'VE ALREADY BEEN TAKEN TO THE CLEANERS. TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES WILL PUT MY EXPENDITURES FAR OVER WHAT THE TRUCK IS WORTH. DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS AND APPLYING THE BRAKE TO STOP THE PEDAL HAD A CHATTER FEEL TO IT AND THEN THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I COULD NOT STOP. I TOLD THEM NOT TO REPAIR THE TRUCK. I WENT TO THE GM DEALER TO HAVE IT REPAIRED FREE. GM REFUSED TO REPAIR THE TRUCK STATING THE SAFETY RECALL (I.E. # 05042B) ONLY EFFECTED VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND MY TRUCK IS AUTOMATIC. PLEASE NOTE: I USED TO BE NAISE CERTIFIED IN BRAKES. I ASKED THE SERVICE MGR WHAT DIFFERENCE IS THERE IN "ANY" OF THE BRAKE COMPONENT PART NUMBERS BETWEEN A MANUAL AND AUTOMATIC VEHICLE OF THIS SAME YEAR AND TYPE. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. THE GM SERVICE MANAGER AGREED BUT SAID HE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THE RECALL STATES MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES. I SAID YOU KNOW IT HAS TO BE A TYPO ERROR ON THE RECALL DOCUMENT. OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THE BRAKES INSPECTED BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STILL GRINDING AND VIBRATING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND IT WAS DETERMINED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP ON DECEMBER 16, 2008 AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE FUNCTIONAL; HOWEVER, THE SPEED SENSOR CONTROL FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. I HAVE OWNED A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO EXT. CAB 4WD SINCE DECEMBER OF 2001. TODAY I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, AND IT WAS WET OUT. WHEN I HIT THE BRAKE THE ABS MOTOR STARTED TO PULSATE SO FAST THE TRUCK WOULDN'T STOP AND I NEVER TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL. I THEN MOVED THE SHIFT LEVER TO PARK AND IT STILL WOULDN'T STOP. I THEN HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND THEN I FINALLY STOPPED. THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME LUCKILY HAD NO DAMAGE TO HIS CAR SINCE I WAS ONLY DRIVING A FEW MPH. I CONTINUED TO WORK. THE ABS LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. AS I LEFT WORK TO GO TO LUNCH,SAME DAY, I WAS PULLING UP TO A LIGHT AT A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION . I THREW THE TRUCK IN PARK AND IT STILL WOULDN'T STOP AND WAS STARTING TO ENTER THE INTERSECTION ON A RED LIGHT. I THEN STEPPED ON THE PARKING BRAKE AND IT FINALLY STOPPED. I WAS ALMOST KILLED BECAUSE A SEMI JUST STARTED TO PASS ME AND HE WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 50 MPH. I THEN TURNED THE TRUCK AROUND AND WENT DOWN THE ROAD TO MY WORK. AS I WAS PARKING THE TRUCK AT MY WORK IT HAPPENED AGAIN,3RD TIME. THE TRUCK IS NOW OUT OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND I CAN'T SEE PAYING 1,500 TO 2,000 DOLLARS TO FIX THIS WHEN IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN. I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND NOTICED THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID RUNNING ONTO THE GROUND. NOTICED A PEP BOYS STORE ABOUT 1/2 OF A BLOCK DOWN THE ROAD. I WAITED TILL THERE WAS NO CARS COMING AND PROCEEDED OUT ONTO TILTON ROAD TOWARD PEP BOYS. DOWN SHIFTED AND APPLIED BRAKE PEDAL AS I APPROACHED STORE. THEY CHECKED THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND INDICATED THAT A BRAKE LINE WAS LEAKING FLUID. MONDAY THEY REPAIRED THE TRUCK BY REPLACING ABOUT A FIVE (5) FOOT SECTION OF BRAKE LINE AT THE TUNE OF $262.52 WOW. I DO HAVE THE OLD SECTION OF BRAKE LINE THAT WAS REMOVED. THE OLD SECTION OF BRAKE LINE IS SO HEAVILY RUSTED THE SHOP INDICATED IT WAS VERY UNUSUAL. WHEN I GOT HOME I LOOKED AT THE REPAIR AND THE REST OF THE LINE STILL IN THE TRUCK AND I AM WORRIED ABOUT CONDITION OF BRAKE LINES AND THE EXCESSIVE RUST THAT EXIST. I'M WORRIED THAT THERE MAY BE ANOTHER LEAK,RESULT MIGHT BE THAT WE ARE NOT AS LUCKY THE NEXT TIME. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED LAST YEAR, BUT I AM JUST NOW REPORTING IT LOOKING AT THE RECENT RECALL OF THIS SAME PICKUP. I OWN A 2000 HALF TON CHEVROLET PU 4X4. I TOOK IT TO THE CAR DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK. NOT ONLY DID THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SENSOR NEED REPLACING, BUT SO DID ALL FOUR ROTORS. THEY WERE RUSTED SO BADLY THAT THEY WERE FLAKING AWAY. THIS TRUCK HAD ONLY 14,000 MILES ON IT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A 2000. IT WAS STORED INSIDE WHEN NOT DRIVEN. GM AGREED TO PAY FOR HALF OF THE REPAIRS BUT NOT ALL. THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND I OFFERED TO TAKE THE DEALER TO A JUNK YARD TO SHOW HIM THAT ROTORS DON'T RUST LIKE THESE WERE EVEN AT JUNK YARDS. I STILL HAVE THE ROTORS IF YOUR DEPT. EVENTULY SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. I HAVE SEARCHED MANY WEBSITES AND FOUND THIS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM CAUSED BY DIRTY WHEEL HUB SENSORS DUE TO A MANUFACTURES DESIGN FLAW. THE DEALERS OFTEN MIS-DIAGNOS OR SCAM CUSTOMERS INTO NEW ABS COMPUTERS AND OTHER EXPENSIVE SOLUTIONS. THE BEST SOLUTION IS TO PULL THE ABS FUSE FOR THE ABS CONTROL MODULE BUT THIS MAKES THE VEHICLE UNABLE TO PASS STATE INSPECTIONS.
