The undercarriage or frame of our recent purchase of our 2003 used chevrolet k1500 silverado was discovered recently after purchase to be rusted through and through and chipping off day by day. A private master mechanic has looked the truck over and said that it was not safe to drive. Upon further investigating, the panels that hold up the roof of the truck underneath the interior panels are rusting through and through to the point of breaking. Dealership we bought it from just shrugged their shoulders and said basically oh well, it was sold as is. under the truck on the frame where the wheels are attached, forgive my descriptions but im no mechanic, looks like they can break off at any minute. we have ony about 3/4 of a front and back bumper we later discovered, and the roof of the truck looks as if it had rusted and messed up beause someone before us put plaster to redo the roof of the truck. im scared to put my mother in law in this truck to go anywhere because if it got into a wreck... it would be devestating for everyone. truck has been in a wreck before. pictures and truck is available for inspection upon request,

I HAVE A 2003 SILVERADO AND UPON ARRIVING HOME I FELT MY BRAKE PEDDLE GO TO THE FLOOR AND I COULDN'T STOP AND BACKED INTO MY TRAILER, I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK AND NOTICED A HUGE PUDDLE UNDER MY DRIVER SIDE WHEEL. AFTER INVESTIGATING I FOUND THAT THE STEEL HYDRAULIC LINE HAD RUSTED & BROKE. I AM DISABLED WITH 4 AUTO IMMUNE DISEASES AND CANNOT AFFORD TO PUT IT IN THE SHOP SO I ORDERED THE PART, REPLACED IT AND PROCEEDED TO BLEED THE LINE AND FOUND THAT 3 OTHER STEEL LINES HAD HOLES IN THEM OR HAD RUSTED ALL THE WAY THROUGH. I ALSO HAVE RUST ALL UNDER THE TRUCK. I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE TWO FRONT SUPPORT BRACES AS THEY HAVE RUSTED ALL THROUGH. AT $120 EACH. SO FROM FRONT TO BACK ALL THE STEEL LINES HAVE RUSTED. I WAS BLESSED TO HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN IN MY DRIVE. HAD I DRIVEN ANOTHER MILE OR SO I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I NOW HAVE A FEAR OF DRIVING. BEING DISABLED IT IS TAKING ME SEVERAL DAYS TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE, AND STILL HAVE ONE LINE TO REPLACE. I PURCHASED MY SILVERADO BRAND NEW AND I LIVE IN KENTUCKY SO I DON'T HAVE A GREAT DEAL OF ROAD SALT OR SEA SALT. I HAVE OWNED CHEVROLET PRODUCTS MY HOLE LIFE. I JUST BOUGHT MY TRUCK ABOUT A MONTH AGO. I WAS UNDER IT CHANGING THE OIL AND I NOTICED AN ALARMING AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FRAME MEMBERS AND THE BRAKE LINES. SOME OF IT LOOKS SO BAD THAT I AM CONCERNED OF HAVING EITHER FRAME BREAKAGE OR A BRAKE LINE FAILING. I HAVE READ MANY OTHER STORIES OF THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO OTHER TRUCKS. I HAVE NOT HAD A FAILURE YET BUT I BELIEVE IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME. AFTER READING ALL OF THE HORROR STORIES FROM OTHER OWNERS ON VARIOUS WEB SITES, I AM TERRIFIED EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT THAT THE BRAKES ARE GOING TO FAIL. I CANNOT AFFORD TO SPEND $3000 TO $4000 TO HAVE THE TRUCK FIXED. ESPECIALLY WHEN I CONSIDER IT A MANUFACTURER DEFECT OF A SAFETY ITEM. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL FOR THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE PEOPLE ARE INJURED OR KILLED BECAUSE THE FRAME HAS BROKEN OR THE BRAKES HAVE FAILED.

UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I LOCATED THE CAUSE OF BRAKE FAILURE WAS DUE TO BRAKE LINES BROKE DUE TO HEAVY RUST ALL OVER THEM .. THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED 3 YEARS AGO. AFTER THE FIRST MONTH OF PURCHASE I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE RETAILER WITH PEELING ON ALL FOUR SIDEWALLS. I CHOOSE TO HAVE THESE TIRES MOUNTED WITH THE WHITE LETTERING TO THE OUTSIDE AND THE PEELING WAS ON THE BLACK PART OF THE TIRES ALL OVER EVEN BETWEEN THE LETTERING. THE MANAGER INFORMED ME I HAD RAN AGAINST SOME CURBING-NOW HOW DOES ONE RUN UP AGAINST CURBING WITH ALL FOUR TIRES AT ONE TIME AND NOT EVEN SCAR UP THE TIRE OR THE LETTERING? IN MY ESTIMATION THIS COULD NOT HAPPEN. HE INFORMED ME IT WAS A COSMETIC DEFECT AND WOULD DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. THE SITUATION BECAME INCREASINGLY WORSE THROUGHOUT THE REMAINDER OF TIME WITH NUMEROUS FLATS, UNEVEN WEAR AND EXTREME VIBRATION. THIS IS A COMPANY VEHICLE AND DUE TO LIABILITY REASONS AND LACK OF SUPPORT FROM THE RETAILER, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ONLY 10,000 MILES PER YEAR ON THESE TIRES. MY EMPLOYEE CALLED AND INFORMED ME OF A FLAT ON THE VEHICLE AND THE OTHER 3 TIRES WERE AT THE POINT WHERE THE STEEL BELTS WERE SHOWING THROUGH. AT THIS POINT I CONTACTED THE MANAGER AT THE RETAILER ONLY TO BE TOLD I WOULD BE GIVEN CREDIT OF $49.00 PER TIRE EVEN THOUGH I HAD TROUBLE FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. I PERSONALLY FEEL LIKE THESE TIRES SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE RECALL LIST FROM THE VERY BEGINNING BUT NOW I WILL BE FORCED TO PAY FULL PRICE AT ANOTHER DISTRIBUTOR FOR ANOTHER SET OF TIRES. THE TIRES ON OUR VEHICLES ARE OUR LIVELIHOOD SINCE THIS IS A SALESMEN VEHICLE AND MANY MORE DOLLARS IN SALES COULD HAVE BEEN MADE HAD I NOT BEEN AFRAID FROM A LIABILITY STANDPOINT. WAS ATTEMPTING TO BACK VEHICLE AND CAMPER TRAILER DOWN INCLINED DRIVEWAY WHEN SUDDENLY THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD ABSOLUTE MINIMUM BRAKING FORCE. WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE BEFORE IT AND TRAILER WENT OVER THE HILL, (AN APPROXIMATE 15 - 20 FOOT DROP IF IT HAD OCCURRED). UPON INSPECTION I FOUND BRAKE FLUID ON THE DRIVEWAY. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I DISCOVERED THAT A BRAKE LINE LEADING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS CONTROLLER WAS LEAKING. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND READY TO FAIL. I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW MUCH RUST IS PRESENT ON THE BRAKE LINES AND THE FUEL LINES. THE VEHICLE LOOKS TO BE IN PERFECT CONDITION. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A NON-GENERAL MOTORS REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THE BRAKES LOOKED AT. AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN HOISTED UP AND INSPECTED, I WAS ASKED TO LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FRAME, DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING, BRAKES, CALIPERS, ETC. THE RUST WAS SO BAD THAT IT WAS LITERALLY FLAKING OFF THE FRAME AND DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING. THE MECHANIC WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE. ON JULY 22, 2011, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP (SULLIVANS O'NEILL'S CHEVROLET AND BUICK, INC. IN AVON, CT) THAT I HAD PURCHASED THE TRUCK FROM. I WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE THE TRUCK A LOT AS IT WAS, IN THE SERVICE MANAGER'S OPINION, UNSAFE. THE SERVICE MANAGER GAVE ME A CUSTOMER SERVICE PHONE NUMBER FOR GM. I CALLED THE NUMBER, SET UP A CASE FILE NUMBER AND WAITED TO HEAR A RESPONSE TO MY COMPLAINT. NONE OF THE 3 PEOPLE WHO WERE PUT ON THE CASE WOULD EVEN GIVE ME THEIR LAST NAMES. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF, ON AUGUST 2, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM "MARIA" WHO INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT GM WOULD DO FOR ME. IT WAS BEYOND THE WARRANTY, ETC. I ASKED FOR A WRITTEN RESPONSE OF THEIR POSITION AND WAS REFUSED. WE ARE NOW LEFT WITH AN OTHERWISE PERFECTLY GOOD TRUCK THAT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THERE WAS ENOUGH PRIOR WORK PERFORMED ON THE TRUCK BY THE DEALER THAT THE SEVERE RUSTING SHOULD HAVE BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION.

2000 TO 2005 GM TRUCKS EXTRA CABS ROCKER PANELS RUSTING AWAY REAR BUMPER RUST AWAY AN BRAKE LINES RUSTING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IT FAILS STATE INSPECTION AN THE DEALERS NO ABOUT IT HAVE CONTACTED A FEW DEALERS AN HAVE BEEN TOLD OFF THE RECORD THAT IT A DESIGN FAULT FROM GM. THEIR ARE MANY JUNK YARDS WHO DON'T HAVE BUMPERS FOR THESE TRUCKS BECAUSE OF THEM RUSTING AWAY HAVE CHECKED JUST TO MAKE SURE IT WASN'T JUST ME BUT ITS A PROBLEM WITH ALL THESE TRUCKSTHAT ARE EXTRA CABS. 90 PERCENT ARE THE 1500 PICKUPS BUT YOU DON'T SEE THIS PROBLEM WITH REGULAR CABS. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AS FOR I HAVE TALKED TO MANY BODY SHOPS AN THEY SEE THESE TRUCKS ALL THE TIME HERE IN MAINE. PLUS I HAVE GONE IN TO THE CHEVY DEALERS TO SEE ABOUT TRADING IN THE TRUCK AN THE FIRST THING THEY GO TO IS THE ROCKER PANELS AN BRAKE LINES AN BUMPER AN THEIR COMMENTS TYPICAL GM TRUCK THEY ALL DO IT. THE CABLE MECHANISM THAT IS FASTENED TO THE FRAME OF THE UNDERSIDE OF MY PICK-UP TRUCK ALONG WITH THE SPARE TIRE FELL FROM MY TRUCK ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THIS MECHANISM IS WHAT HOLDS SPARE TIRE UNDER MY TRUCK BED AND HAS A WINCH WITH CABLE THAT RAISES AND LOWERS THE TIRE. THE MECHANISM SLIDES UNDER STEEL SUPPORT ON SIDE AND IS SECURED WITH A BOLT ON OTHER SIDE. THE STEEL BASE AROUND THE BOLT CRACKED AND BROKE LOOSE. FORTUNATELY I LOST MY SPARE TIRE DURING DAYTIME CONDITIONS AND ON LIGHTLY TRAVELED ROAD OR A VEHICLE BEHIND ME COULD SUSTAINED DAMAGED AND PASSENGERS COULD BE HURT. MY TRUCK IS A CHEVROLET 2003 SILVERADO 1500 2WD WORK TRUCK MODEL. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW AND HAVE HAD FEW PROBLEMS WITH IT. I HAVE JUST OVER 80,000 ACTUAL MILE ON THE ODOMETER OF MY TRUCK.*CW

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE BRACKET DETACHED FROM THE HOOD, CAUSING THE HOOD TO PARTIALLY LOOSEN. THE HOOD ALMOST SLAMMED INTO THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MINOR DENTS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 96,000.

TRUCK DIED. LOST DASHBOARD FUNCTIONS, NO ENGINE CRANK, PCM FAILURE. HAD TO HAVE TOWED FROM SIDE OF EXPRESSWAY TO DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. FOUND OUT PCM WAS BAD ,AND HAD TO REPLACED. RARITY, BUT COINCIDENTAL WHEN IT HAPPENED JUST 217 MILES OVER THE 80,000 MILE GM WARRANTY TIME FRAME. IT WAS ALMOST A $800 BILL THAT I HAD TO FORK OUT SINCE THERE WAS NO MORE WARRANTY.*AK

CONSUMER EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS GETTING RECALLED TAILGATE REPAIRS COMPLETED ON 2003 CHEVROLET LD 1500.*MR IN GM'S COMPUTER THE TAILGATE RECALL APPEARD TO HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT A MIXUP OCCURED SINCE HE ALSO OWNS A 2002 PICKUP. THE TAILGATE WAS REPLACED ON THE 2002 TRUCK BUT THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THEY MARKED THAT THE TAILGATE ON THE 2003 TRUCK WAS REPLACED INSTEAD. THE STEERING SHAFT WAS ALSO REPLACED. *NM
