Abs system is failing light comes on then brakes don’t catch, airbags message keeps coming on . Pulling in to store when it done it end up hitting the metal pipe in from of store to stop
Collided with a bear at 55mph with significant front end damage. Air bags were commanded to deploy and never did. I have contacted GM about the problem and have been told to wait for a claim advisor as no recalls are active on my vehicle.

THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO YOUNG CHEVROLET (9301 E R L THORNTON FWY, DALLAS, TX 75228, (469) 378-9186), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
MY HUSBAND HAD A HORRIFIC ONE VEHICLE ACCIDENT. HE WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, DRIVING ON AN UNFAMILIAR COUNTY HIGHWAY WHEN HE APPROACHED A CURVE IN THE ROAD, HIS VEHICLE LEFT THE ROAD, ROLLED, BECAME AIR BORN, HIT A UTILITY POLE WHILE AIR BORN HARD ENOUGH TO SNAP IT IN HALF AND MOVE THE PART OF THE POLE THAT'S IN THE GROUND ABOUT TWO FEET, THE VEHICLE ROLLED AND LANDED UP SIDE DOWN. NOT ONE SINGLE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. MY HUSBAND WASN'T WEARING HIS SEAT BELT AND WAS THROWN FROM THE VEHICLE. I'M NOT EXCUSING HIS ACTIONS, BUT THE OTHER SAFETY FEATURE DIDN'T PERFORM AS WELL. I HAVE HAD TWO MAJOR HITS TO THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT BRAND NEW.FIRST WAS I BEAM THRU THE FRONT BUMPER ON INTERSTATE DRIVING 70 MPH,NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT.SECOND HEAD ON WITH LARGE DEER,AT ABOUT 45 MPH TO GRILL, BUMPER ,HEAD LIGHTS, HOOD, RADIATOR AND FRAME WHICH ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED,NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT.I NOW HAVE WELL OVER 200,000 MILES AND 10,000 MILES BACK MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON,CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHY NOW. THE VEHICLE HAD A BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO A BRAKE LINE RUSTING OUT. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE OF POOR QUALITY. AND ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE ROTTED OUT. THESE ARE SIZED TOO SMALL DIAMETER TO SAVE WEIGHT .3/16TH CHEAP STEEL, AND THIN WALL TUBING, UNCOATED, UNPAINTED, NON GALVANIZED, OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF PROTECTED BRAKE LINE. IT IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. GM DECIDED TO USE THESE CHEAP THIN WALL BRAKE LINES. AND ALL THE BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES , AND POWER STEERING COOLER LINES, FOR THAT MATTER ARE ROTTED BEYOND SAFE USE. WHILE THE REST OF THE VEHICLE LOOKS BEAUTIFUL. IT IS JUST BLATENT IRRESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR. TO USE THESE LINES WITHOUT RUST PROTECTION. PAINT AT LEAST. OR BETTER YET, THEY SHOULD OF BEEN STAINLESS OR CAD OR GALVANIZED PLATED LINES. GM SHOULD REPLACE THEM FOR FREE, AND THE FUEL LINES AND MY ROTTED OUT COOLER LINES. THE VEHICLE HAS 54,000 MILES ON IT AND IS PARKED IN MY DRIVE. I OWE 3 YEARS ON IT. I DROVE IT 4000 MILES . THE ONLY REMEDY IS TO BUY BACK THE VEHICLE AT FULL COST PER RECALL ID# 7297, BUT GM HAS REFUSED TO BUY BACK MY VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE THE ONES THAT SUBMITTED THE RECALL. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER EVERYTHING WAS WORKING AS DESIGNED. UPDATED 05/26/11 THE CONSUMER STATED ONLY LEASED VEHICLES WERE RECALLED. I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 SS, THE DRIVER'S POWER SEATS, DRIVER AND PASSENGER HEATED SEATS, AND MIRROR DIMMER'S LOSE ALL POWER. THEY WERE WORKING 30% OF THE TIME. I TOOK IT INTO THE THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THE WIRE HARNESS MELTED AND WOULD COST $500.00 TO FIX, THEY CAN'T DETERMINE WHY IT MELTED. THEY LEFT THE HARNESS UNPLUGGED BECAUSE IT LEFT IN, IT WOULD CAUSE FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE AIRBAGS. MY DRIVES SIDE ARIBAG WILL NOT INFLATE IF NEEDED UNTIL REPLAIRED. I CALLED GM - CHEVROLET TO MAKE A COMPLAINT SAYING THIS IS A SAFET ISSUE AND NOTHING DUE TO HUMAN ERROR. THEY SAID IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE OR A DEFECT, THEY ARE ALSO NOT SURE OF WHY IT MELTED, IT COULD BE MANY REASONS: SOMETHING TOUCHED IT, WEAR AND TEAR, A GM PART GONE BAD. THEY CLAIM THIS IS NOT A GM ISSUE. THEY SAID BECAUSE OF ALL THIS AND THE AGE OF THE CAR, THEY WILL NOT COMPENSATE FOR ANY OF IT, BUT THEN SAID REGARDLESS OF THE AGE OF THE CAR, THE WIRE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO MELT. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WAS NOT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMAGES AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS REPLACED. RECENTLY, ON FEBRUARY 21, 2009, THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE POLICE AND AMBULANCE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON, DID NOT KNOW WHY, I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS BEFORE. BUT WAS NOT SURE OF WHAT COULD HAPPEN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE AS SURPRISED AS I WAS. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE "INFLATABLE RESTRAINT SENSING AND DIAGNOSTIC MODULE" FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ON APRIL 30 OF 2008, I PLACED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND ATTEMPTED TO START MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. BOTH AIRBAGS SUDDENLY DEPLOYED HITTING ME IN THE FACE. THERE WERE NO INDICATIONS OF AN AIR BAG FAULT PRIOR TO DETONATION. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE WERE NO WARRANTIES ON THE AIR BAGS, OUTSIDE OF THE NORMAL 36000 MILE OF 3 YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD. I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HAVE HAD NO RESOLUTION ON THE REASON FOR THE EVENT OR THE COST TO GET THIS REPAIRED. I AM ENTERING THIS INFORMATION BECAUSE, HAD THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS INCIDENCES OF AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT ON GM PRODUCTS INCLUDING THE SIERRA, SILVERADO AND TAHOE SERIES OF VEHICLE. HOW CAN THE AIRBAG ACTIVATE WITHOUT THE ACCELEROMETER GENERATING A SIGNAL ? IT APPEARS THAT GM MAY HAVE A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS ON THESE MODEL VEHICLES. I HAVE A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO THAT HAD THE ORIGINAL CLOTH SEATS RECOVERED IN AFTERMARKET LEATHER BY THE DEALERSHIP (THIS VEHICLE HAS THE AUTOMATIC AIR BAG PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM) AND I WAS WONDERING IF MY VEHICLE IS IMPACTED IN THE SAME WAY AS THOSE VEHICLES BEING RECALLED. THE REASON I'M ASKING THIS QUESTION IS THAT IN THE REMEDY SECTION OF THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN DOCUMENT 0641700 IT STATES "A REPLACEMENT LEATHER SEAT COVER THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM IS NOT AVAILABLE" WHICH MAKES ME BELIEVE THAT THE SEAT COVERS INSTALLED BY THE DEALERSHIP IS UNSAFE.
