Odometer Fraud. The contact was interested in purchasing a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 from a local used car dealer. The contact stated that the odometer indicated that the mileage was 187,000. The Carfax report indicated that the last reported mileage was 312,000. In addition, the contact was informed that the vehicle had only one previous owner. The Carfax report indicated that the vehicle had four previous owners. The dealer was not made aware of the issue.

I just replaced the battery in my 2004 chevy Silverado 1500 with only 97,000 miles on it, and i went to drive it down the road and the vehicle now loses power and cuts off making a left turn.. It did this twice and i parked it.. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE in my opinion.. PLEASE investigate the issue and report back to me please..

The contact stated that she recently noticed that other gauges were also malfunctioning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a failed instrument cluster. 1 ISSUE IS THE AC RUNS HOT ON THE LEFT SIDE AND COLD ON THE RIGHT. SOMETIMES IT WILL RUN ALL HOT.. @. THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS GO OFF AFTER I HAVE STARTED DRIVING AND I CAN NOT SEE THE SPEED OR ANYTHING ON IT. WE HAD A RECALL ON THE HARNESS A FEW YEAR AGO, AROUND APRIL 2011 OR 2012 THE TRUCK WOULD NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION AT THE TIME. I HAVE REPLACED IT TWICE ALREADY. CHEVROLET MANUFACTURE REIMBURSED US.

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL GAUGES QUIT WORKING. TRUCK HAS LITTLE LESS THAN 14,000 MILES ON IT. THROUGH INTERNET SEARCH DISCOVERED THAT A SPECIAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED BUT DID NOT RECEIVE ONE. NOTICED THAT IT ONLY COVERS 7 YEARS OR 70,000 MILES FOR GM TO REPLACE. I AM WELL UNDER THE 70,000 MILES AND FEEL THAT IT SHOULD BE REPLACED BY GM. SPEEDOMETER WAS THE FIRST GAUGE TO QUIT WORKING. ALL SERVICE ON VEHICLE HAS BEEN PERFORMED BY GM DEALERSHIP TO DATE. DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY I HAVE TO REPAIR THIS AT MY OWN COST.

2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO LS 1500 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND HEATER ELECTRICAL FAILURES. IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT THE STEPPER MOTORS IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ARE GUARANTEED TO FAIL RESULTING IN NOT KNOWING WHAT SPEED YOU ARE GOING OR ANY OTHER GAUGE SUCH AS FUEL, TEMPERATURE OR OIL PRESSURE. GM REFUSED TO FIX PROBLEM WHEN STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I FIXED THE FIRST 2 STEPPER MOTOR FAILURES MYSELF, NOW AT 268,XXX MILES THERE IS A PROBLEM IN THE IGNITION SWITCH WHICH LEAVES ME WITH NO FUNCTION OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND LOSS OF HVAC BLOWER FUNCTION. IT IS NOW WINTER HERE IN MICHIGAN, VEHICLE PROBLEMS STARTED WHEN IT WAS WINTER WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER AND FUEL GAUGE FAILED THE FIRST TIME. NOW, THE HEATER FAN AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAVE FAILED AT THE SAME TIME! THE LAW REQUIRES A SPEEDOMETER! I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK TO A FRIENDS HOUSE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAGES STARTED GOING CRAZY THEY SHOWED THAT MY TRUCK WAS OVERHEATING AND WHEN I STOPPED ITS WASN'T OVERHEATING THE THE AIR CONDITIONING STARTED TO GET HOT AND THEN COLD AND STOPPED. KNOW NONE OF THE CAGES WORK. TWO WEEKS AGAIN MY WIFE AND I WENT TO BREAKFAST AND WHEN I WENT TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF IT WOULDN'T TURN OFF SO I HAD TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE RUNNING AFTER BREAKFAST WE WENT HOME AND I DISCONNECTED THE CABLES AND THE TRUCK TURNED OFF . THEN THE NEXT MORNING I HOOKED THEM BACK UP AND IT STARTED BY IT SELF. I AM A 77 YEAR OLD SENIOR AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING . AROUND 2010 SEVERAL OF THE GAUGE NEEDLES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OF MY 2004 CHEVY TAHOE STARTED TO STOP WORKING. FROM 2010 TILL 2015 I TRIED TO TAKE TO A DEALERSHIP 2 TIMES TO GET IT LOOK AT BUT BY THE TIME I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP IT WOULD START WORKING AGAIN SO I WAS ADVISE TO BRING IT IN WHEN IT WAS NOT WORKING. A COUPLE MONTHS AGO WHEN HAVING THE SAME ISSUE I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO A LOCAL SHOP WHERE I HAVE PAID $300 TO TRY TO GET IT FIX, HOWEVER THE ELECTRICIAN FOUND A REPORT IN REGARDS TO MY CAR'S PROBLEM AND ADVISE ME TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP TO SEEK REPAIRS AT NO COST. I THEN TOOK IT TO RON TONKIN CHEVROLET ON 8/10/2015 LOCATED AT 122ND AVE AND WAS TOLD THAT NO RECALLS WERE FOUND FOR THIS ISSUE JUST A NOTICE AND ADVISED ME TO CONTACT GM TO SEEK COST ASSISTANCE. ON 8/11/2015 I CALLED GM AT (800)630-2438 AND TALKED TO A REP, THEN A SENIOR ADVISOR AND WAS TOLD THAT MY REQUEST WAS DENIED AND SO I REQUESTED TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOVE THE SENIOR ADVISOR. I WAS TOLD THAT I WILL GET A CALL IN THE NEXT 24-48 HRS BUT SINCE I DIDN'T GET A CALL I CALLED THEM BACK ON 8/17/2014 AND WAS TOLD BY A SUPERVISOR THAT MY REQUEST IS DENIED BECAUSE THE SMART CARE COVERAGE ENDED IN 2011 AND I SHOULD HAD FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE NOTICE SENT TO VEHICLE OWNER BEFORE 2011 TO GET MY INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES AND SEAT BELTS REPAIR. I EXPLAINED THEM THAT I DID NOT RECEIVED THAT NOTICE BUT THEY CLAIMED THAT IT WAS SENT TO ME AND FOR THAT REASON NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. I CONSIDER THAT THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY MATTER AND THAT GM SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO COVER THE COST FOR THE REPAIRS.

ALL THE OTHER GAUGES WERE PERFECT. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A BAD FUEL SENSOR AND THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD CLUSTER HAD TO BE REPLACED. (OVER $500) I JUST CONTINUE TO RESET MY TRIPOMETER WHEN I FUEL UP NOW RATHER THAN SPEND THAT MUCH MONEY. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH DASHBOARD CONCERNS. MAYBE SOME DEFECTIVE PARTS????? ANYWAYS, SINCE THEN I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES, THE FRONT STRUTS, THE WATER PUMP, AND RECENTLY THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINES AT $1200 DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION. THE TRUCK'S INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE SPEEDOMETER, ALL THE GAUGES FAILED TO SHOW ACCURATE READINGS. THE ISSUE BEGAN AS A SPORADIC CONDITION. THE PANEL WOULD WORK SOME DAYS AND THEN NOT WORK ON OTHERS. IN ADDITION, WE EXPERIENCED THE SITUATION WHERE THE ENTIRE PANEL, INCLUDING ALL DASH LIGHTING AND DIGITAL DISPLAYS HAVE GONE OUT FOR DAYS AT A TIME. I SMELLED ELECTRICAL WIRING BURNING AT DIFFERENT TIMES BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING BURNT IN THE WIRING AFTER INSPECTING THE WIRING UNDER THE DASH AND HOOD. ON FEB. 25,2014 I WENT TO THE GROCERY STORE AND WHEN I SHUT MY SUBURBAN OFF THE BLOWER MOTOR STAYED ON. I TRIED TURN THE KEY ON AND OFF BUT THE MOTOR STAYED ON. I WENT IN THE STORE AND WHEN I CAME OUT 1/2 HOUR LATER THE BLOWER MOTOR WAS STILL RUNNING. NOW EVERY TIME I TURN THE SUBURBAN OFF THE BLOWER KEEPS RUNNING SO I HAD TO PULL THE FUSE OUT SO IT WOULD NOT RUN THE BATTERY DOWN. I GOOGLED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL OTHER VEHICELS. AFTER FINDING OUT THE PART THAT IS DEFECTIVE IS CALLED A BLOWER RELAY RESISTOR MODULE I CALLED THE PARTS STORE TO GET THE PART. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT GET THE PART AND TO TRY THE DEALERSHIP. THE CHEVROLET DEALER HAD THE PART AND I ASKED IF THERE HAPPENED TO BE A RECALL ON THE PART. THEY WANTED MY VIN. # SO THEY COULD CHECK MY SUBURBAN AND SAID THAT MY SUBURBAN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN 'THAT' RECALL. THAT SOUND ALITTLE WEIRD THE WAY HE SAID IT SO I GOT ON THE WEB AND CHECKED MYSELF. THERE IS A RECALL # 10240 THAT DESCRIBES THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS WITH OTHER 2004 SUBURBANS THAT IS HAPPENING WITH MY SUBURBAN TO THE "T". IT SAID IN THE RECALL THAT THE PROBLEM COULD CAUSE A FIRE. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START AND THE SECURITY LIGHT FLASHES SHOWING THAT THERE IS A PASSLOCK SYSTEM PROBLEM. THE SYSTEM SENSOR THINKS THAT IT HAS BEEN TAMPERED WITH AND SHUTS DOWN THE STARTER. AFTER SOME PERIOD OF TIME USUALLY ABOUT 30 MINUTES IT WILL RESET AND THE VEHICLE WILL START AGAIN. AS TIME GOES BY THE PROBLEM BECOMES MORE FREQUENT AND THE TIME OF RESET TAKES LONGER, UNTIL AT SOME POINT IT WILL NOT START AT ALL. CHEVY REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR PASSLOCK SYSTEM, BUT A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE COMPUTER SHOWS THAT IT HAS BECOME A COMMON PROBLEM. AFTER CONTACTING GM, THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO AN AUTHORIZED SHOP FOR A DIAGNOSIS, WHICH I DID AND THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS THE ISSUE THAT GM ISSUED THE CONTRACT ADJUSTMENT FOR, BUT SINCE IT HAS NOW EXPIRED, THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. SPONTANEOUS FRONT AND REAR BRAKE FAILURE ON A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 LT PICKUP TRUCK. I WAS PULLING UP TO MY DRIVEWAY AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I TRIED TO PUMP THE BRAKE WITH NO SUCCESS. NO PRIOR BRAKE LEVEL OR ABS OR PROPORTIONING VALVE WARNING LIGHTS WERE INDICATED. I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND CAME TO A STOP. ONCE I PARKED THE TRUCK I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING DOWN BELOW THE DRIVER'S DOOR. I CRAWLED UNDER TO DISCOVER THAT ALL FOUR STEEL BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND FLUID WAS STEADILY COMING OUT. A LARGE PUDDLE UNDER THE TRUCK HAD ACCUMULATED OVER A SHORT TIME. I NOTICED THAT THE FUEL LINES WERE ALSO SEVERELY RUSTED IN THE SAME AREA. I AM 65 YEARS OLD AND HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES OVER MY LIFETIME (INCLUDING CLASSIC CARS), BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD A BRAKE LINE RUST AS BAD AS THESE. I AM EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT I WASN'T ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO MAKE A QUICK STOP FOR TRAFFIC AHEAD. MORE SERIOUSLY THAN THE RUSTED LINES IS THE FACT THAT NO PRIOR WARNING WAS GIVEN BEFORE TOTAL FAILURE. DUAL MASTER CYLINDERS AND ISOLATED FRONT AND REAR LINES DID NOT PERFORM AS DESIGNED. I KNOW AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS A SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCE AND VEHICLES WHO WERE LESS THAN 80K MILES OR GOT FIXED PRIOR TO JULY 2011 THEN THEY WERE COVERED. HOWEVER, NOTHING WAS DONE FOR THE VEHICLES AFTER THAT DATE. THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHERS GM OWNERS WITH TRUCKS RANGING FROM 2003-2007 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND WE ARE BEING FORCED TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM FIXED OUT OF POCKET FOR OVER $500. PROBLEM 1.THE PLUG THAT CONTROLS THE BLOWER MOTOR IN MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO MELTED AND STARTED SMOKING. I REPLACED IT AND 3 MONTHS LATER IT IS NOW HAPPENING AGAIN. WITHOUT THE USE OF THE BLOWER MOTOR I CAN NOT USE THE HEAT,AC OR WINDOW DEFOGGER. THIS TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN I SEARCH ONLINE I SEE THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THEIR PLUGS HAVE MELTED AND IN SOME CASES HAVE ALSO STARTED FIRES. NOT HAVING A WINDOW DEFOGGER IS VERY DANGEROUS. PROBLEM 2. THE HEATER BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR HAS STOPPED WORKING. WHAT THIS DID BEFORE THE PLUG MELTED WAS TO CONTROL THE TEMP OF THE AIR COMING OUT OF THE VENTS. WHEN IT STOPS WORKING LIKE IT DID TO ME WAS TO BLOW BURNING HOT AIR RIGHT IN MY FACE EVEN WITH THE AC ON. IMAGINE DRIVING AT 55 MPH AND HAVE THESE THINGS HAPPEN TO YOU. AFTER THE CONTACT SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES, THE SPEEDOMETER RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. APPROXIMATELY EIGHTEEN MONTHS LATER WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH, THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS OR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

FEBRUARY 20, 2010 I SMELLED A BURNING ELECTRICAL SMELL. AFTER A QUICK LOOK UNDER THE DASH ON THE PASSENGER SIDE I FOUND SMOLDERING WIRES FROM THE WIRING HARNESS THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE HEATER FAN. THE WIRES RUN FROM THE HEATER FAN MOTOR TO THE RESISTOR. THE RESISTOR IS ALSO DAMAGED. THE WIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE RESISTOR. THE PARTS DEALER SAID THAT THIS PART FREQUENTLY MUST BE REPLACED ON THIS MODEL TRUCK AND THEY KEEP AT LEAST 30 IN STOCK JUST FOR THIS REASON. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 63,575 MILES ON IT. AS A RESULT, I WAS UNABLE TO USE MY HEATER OR DEFROSTER WHICH RESULTED IN BEING VERY COLD ON MY DRIVE HOME FROM WORK AT 6AM AND I COULD NOT DEFROST MY WINDSHIELD TO SEE PROPERLY. *TR

I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 SS, THE DRIVER'S POWER SEATS, DRIVER AND PASSENGER HEATED SEATS, AND MIRROR DIMMER'S LOSE ALL POWER. THEY WERE WORKING 30% OF THE TIME. I TOOK IT INTO THE THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THE WIRE HARNESS MELTED AND WOULD COST $500.00 TO FIX, THEY CAN'T DETERMINE WHY IT MELTED. THEY LEFT THE HARNESS UNPLUGGED BECAUSE IT LEFT IN, IT WOULD CAUSE FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE AIRBAGS. MY DRIVES SIDE ARIBAG WILL NOT INFLATE IF NEEDED UNTIL REPLAIRED. I CALLED GM - CHEVROLET TO MAKE A COMPLAINT SAYING THIS IS A SAFET ISSUE AND NOTHING DUE TO HUMAN ERROR. THEY SAID IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE OR A DEFECT, THEY ARE ALSO NOT SURE OF WHY IT MELTED, IT COULD BE MANY REASONS: SOMETHING TOUCHED IT, WEAR AND TEAR, A GM PART GONE BAD. INITALLY, THE SPEEDOMETER GRADUALLY STARTED DISPLAYING INCORRECT SPEEDS WITHOUT ALERTING ME TO A FAILURE IN THE SYSTEM. THERE WERE NO SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH CHANGES IN BEHAVIOR AT AROUND 95,000 - 100,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER TO CAUSE ME TO NOTICE THE PROBLEM. IT WASN'T UNTIL ONE DAY WHILE I WAS GOING MUCH FASTER THAN THE SLOWER LANE TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY THAT I NOTICED A SERIOUS DEVIATION IN THE READING ( I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT WHILE STARTING TO DRIVE MUCH FASTER THAN REGULAR TRAFFIC FLOW WHILE THE SPEEDOMETER KEPT GRADUALLY DROPPING ANY TIME I SLOWED EVEN SLIGHTLY UNTIL IT REGISTERED AROUND 40 MPH WHEN I WAS PASSING MIDDLE-LANE TRAFIIC IN A 65 MPH ZONE). I STICK PRETTY CLOSE TO THE SPEED LIMITS AND OBSERVE RECOMMENDED SPEEDS (E.G. YELLOW SIGNS ON CURVED HIGHWAY) ESPECIALLY WHILE TOWING TRAILERS. '04 CHEVROLET K1500 - THROTTLE BODY SENSOR THE ISSUE IS THAT THE TRUCK KEEPS COMING IN AND OUT OF "REDUCED POWER MODE" WHICH WHEN IT IS IN THIS MODE IT IS VERY HARD TO MAINTAIN SPEED WHICH IN TURN IS INHERENTLY DANGEROUS. IN '07 I HAD THE CONNECTIONS CLEANED AND REPAIRED (UNDER WARRANTY), ON JULY 7TH OF '08 I HAD THE WHOLE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR REPLACED (OUT OF WARRANTY), AND IT STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN ON JUNE 25TH OF THIS YEAR. I QUALIFIED FOR THE 12 MONTH REPAIR WARRANTY, BUT HAD DRIVEN OVER 12,000 MILES. OUT OF THE BLUE MY TRUCK GOES INTO REDUCED POWER MODE. I PULL OVER AND BASICALLY RESTART THE TRUCK A FEW TIMES AND APPARENTLY THE COMPUTER RESETS AND EXITS THE MODE. THIS WORKED FOR THE FIRST WEEK BUT NOW IT HAS TO SIT OVERNIGHT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL STAY ON FOR A DAY OR SO, BUT THEN WILL CLEAR. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THREE DEALERSHIPS FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND NO ONE CAN PUT THEIR FINGER ON THE SPECIFIC PROBLEM. THE MOST CURRENT ONE HAS TOLD ME HE COULD REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR, BUT CAN'T GUARANTEE THAT WILL FIX IT. HE HAS THREE MORE '04 CHEVYS COMING IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (INCLUDING THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER) ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO STICKS. I FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM IN APRIL 2006 WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER STUCK. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND PASSING PEOPLE VERY EASILY, YET MY SPEEDOMETER SAID I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. THE PROBLEM HAS PROGRESSED SINCE THAT TIME AND THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS ONLY INFREQUENTLY AT THIS TIME. OVER THE PAST 21 MONTHS, I HAVE USED THE TACHOMETER TO DETERMINE MY APPROXIMATE SPEED, YET IT BEGAN STICKING IN JANUARY 2008. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM IN DECEMBER 2007 "NOTIFYING" ME OF THIS POTENTIAL DEFECT, AND EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON THIS PART TO SEVEN YEARS OR 70,000 MILES. I, HOWEVER, HAVE APPROXIMATELY 95,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE AS OF JANUARY 7, 2008. IN ALMOST EVERY AUTO COLLISION STORY OR STATISTIC I CAN FIND, IT NAMES SPEED AS THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. A POSSIBLE DIFFERENT ANGLE ON THIS TOPIC IS GM OWNER LOYALTY. THE PROBLEM AFFECTS 2003 AND 2004 MODEL YEARS. I RECEIVED A SPEEDING TICKET AND SO HAS MY WIFE. MY WIFE HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 10 IN LOUISIANA BECAUSE SHE DID NOT KNOW HOW FAST SHE WAS DRIVING AND HIT WATER ON THE ROAD. WE HAVE CONTACTED GM WHO HAVE TOLD US THEY WILL PAY FOR THE REPAIR UP TO 70,000 MILES. IT IS UNREASONABLE TO BELIEVE THAT A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE WILL HAVE LESS THAN 70,000 MILES AFTER THREE YEARS. WHILE DRIVING HOME MY SPEEDOMETER DROPPED TO ZERO AND STAYED THERE. IT STARTED WORKING THE NEXT DAY. THIS PAST SATURDAY IT WENT HAYWIRE AGAIN, FREEZING UP AT 49 MPH. NOT GOOD WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING THROUGH MULTIPLE SPEED LIMIT ZONES. THIS MORNING I STARTED OUT AT 54 MPH BEFORE I PUT IT IN DRIVE. UPON REACHING THE STOP SIGN, I SHUT IT OFF AND RESTARTED. IT DROPPED 10 MPH. I CONTINUED TO STOP AND RESTART DROPPING ANOTHER 10 MPH WITH EACH EFFORT UNTIL IT REACHED ZERO. FROZE UP AGAIN WHEN I WENT TO LUNCH. ONCE I GOT OFF THE FREEWAY, I PULLED INTO THE GAS STATION TO FILL-UP, AND NOTICED THAT THE NEEDLE ON THE SPEEDOMETER WAS STILL STUCK @ 70MI. AS I DROVE AWAY, I NOTICED THAT NOW, THE NEW 70MI. MARK WAS 0MI, AND AS I DROVE DOWN THE STREET, THE CAR WAS READING 100MI. IT CONTINUED TO MOVE BACK TO 70 AS I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A CLASS-ACTION LAW SUIT FOR THIS ISSUE. I WILL NOT PAY TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM AS I FEEL IT'S GM'S PROBLEM TO RESOLVE. MY NEXT VEHICLE WILL BE A TOYOTA...AND THEY WONDER WHY IMPORTS ARE FLOODING THE MARKET...GM NEEDS TO STEP UP AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS STUFF! THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR A FEW WEEKS, AND BECAUSE I COULDN'T REPRODUCE IT, I ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO ROLL OVER MY WARRANTY MILEAGE OF 36,000 MILES. EVER SINCE THEN, THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN MORE COMMON AND MORE ERRATIC, UNTIL FINALLY TODAY DURING A 200 MILE DRIVE, THE SPEEDOMETER WENT TOTALLY DEAD. IT NOW READS 60 MPH WHEN I'M STANDING STILL AND IT IS BURIED AT 120+MPH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. NO LUCK YET FROM GM ABOUT A RECALL OR ANYTHING ELSE. I HAVE AN '04 CHEVY SILVERADO THAT HAS A SPEEDOMETER THAT DOES NOT WORK. IT SHOWS 15 MPH WHEN I AM AT A STOP SIGN, THAN IT MOVES UP WHEN I START TO DRIVE. HOWEVER IT JUST JUMPS AROUND AND USUALLY FALLS BACK DOWN TO 15 OR 20 MPH AFTER DRIVING A FEW MILES AND NEVER MOVES AGAIN UNTIL I RESTART THE CAR. I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND THE DEALER AND THEY REFUSE TO REPAIR IT EXCEPT AT MY COST. I FEEL THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND GM NEEDS TO RECALL IT. I AM NOT SURE HOW MANY OTHER VEHICLE YEARS THIS EFFECTS BUT I HAVE HEARD FROM NUMEROUS PEOPLE THAT IS HAS HAPPENED TO THEM IN THE '03 AND '05 GM VEHICLES. MY VEHICLE IS A 2004 CHEVY SLIVERED 4 X 4 EX. CAB. FIRST, AT AROUND JUNE OR JULY OF 2006 THE SPIDER GEARS HAD TO BE REPLACED IN REAR DIFFERENTIAL ($1,100 BILL...ABOUT 53,000 MILES). NOW, ON DECEMBER 8, 2006, THE SPEEDOMETER STOP WORKING (61,000 MILES). DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO LOOK AT IT TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I KNOW THERE WOULD BE LABOR COST CONCERNING THIS INSPECTION ($60-$80 PER HOUR). JUST YESTERDAY I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND, LITERALLY, HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS OF CHEVY SILVERADOS AND OTHER GM PRODUCTS WITH THE SAME SPEEDOMETER PROBLEM THAT I HAVE. THE COST FOR A DEALER REPAIR IS ANYWHERE FROM $450 UP TO $1100. FROM WHAT I'VE FOUND, THE SPEEDOMETER PROBLEM INVOLVES A "STEPPER MOTOR" NOT WORKING PROPERLY OR A PLASTIC COVERED GEAR THAT CRACKS, MAKING THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE MOVE ERRATICALLY. ODOMETER MOTOR IS FAULTY ON THE 2004 CHEVY TAHOE Z71. NEW MOTOR IS BEING MADE TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL MOTOR. I FILED A COMPLAINT ON MY 2004 TAHOE Z71, COMPLAINT NUMBER 54, ODI ID NUMBER: 10148883. I BROUGHT MY TAHOE TO THE DEALER ON 02-06-06 FOR THE ODOMETER TO BE REPAIRED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. TODAY 02-07-06 I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALER ADVISING ME THAT THE MOTOR FOR THE ODOMETER IS FAULTY AND THAT THEY ARE MAKING NEW ONES TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL ODOMETER MOTORS. HE ADVISED ME THAT THE MANUFACTURE IS NOT RECALLING THE MOTOR, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS HAPPENING TO ALL OF THE TAHOE'S. THE MANUFACTURE IS REPLACING THE MOTOR UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. I DON'T THINK THAT THIS IS FEAR TO THE PEOPLE WHOSE WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT. THIS IS A MANUFACTURE PROBLEM, WHICH IS BEING REPLACED BY A NEW PART. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. *NM
