Abs system is failing light comes on then brakes don’t catch, airbags message keeps coming on . Pulling in to store when it done it end up hitting the metal pipe in from of store to stop
# 1 is the 4l60E transmission that sits on the exhaust and runs next to it on the opposite side the heat from the trans itself and the exhaust overheat the gasket which causes weak spots that leak along with burning up the 3-4 clutch. Lost everything but 1&2,R,N on trip to Illinois on way back went to speed up to pass and all sudden the engine started tacking out and leaking fluid. I applied fluid all the way home at a speed of 45mph in a 70 mph limit which caused a major safety hazard with traffic. Took to trans shop said the 3-4 clutch was fried and was no good due to overheating and loss fluid from damaged gasket that's split on the stamps from AC Delco. 2nd issue arises out 1rst, even more dangerous to point of dragging me down drive way and cutting into my leg leaving a small scar. When wheels are chalked , E brake applied the vehical should not move, so after doing so I climbed under and unhooked the shift cable from the trans instantly with dog in truck it began rolling right over me I grabbed the frame and stopped it for a few sec then boom it went again I had spin around or my legs or head would've be smashed to Oblivion. At that point it just kept going as it cut into my leg, I let it roll over me hopped up and tried trow it in park yet no cable attached it wouldn't stop and just kept going till it hit a small ditch at end my drive and half way in the road.My leg was cut and I was scratched up in many spots yet dog was ok. The trans quitting lead to the unhooking of the cable then the e/p brake not holding due to worn brake shins in the rear which have calipers so if the calpier would've held with the brake it'd been fine but under everything is a set small and thin pads that hold the truck when brake applied. There was a recall (#05042). Yet my vin was not included, chevy was called yet denied any responsibility of either matter or action to cure it. These defects could've killed me, decapitated, or killed my service dog!
Vehicle was being driven when "Service Brake System" appeared in the DIC. Vehicle was safely returned to owners home where it was discovered a master cylinder failure had occurred. The master cylinder contained no brake fluid, the booster was covered in brake fluid, and fluid was dripping from the undercarriage to the ground. The master cylinder and booster were replaced. In the process of bleeding the brake lines, a secondary leak was discovered in the brake line to the left front caliper. An inspection revealed a failure of the brake line due to rust. Inspection of the other brake lines revealed rust which will require replacement of all the brake lines. In this instance, the vehicle was actively being repaired when the failure of the brake line occurred. Had the brake line not failed during the repair process of the master cylinder and booster, a failure would have occurred while the vehicle was being operated possibly resulting in a crash with injury or death to the occupants or other drivers.
WHEN YOU APPLY THE PARKING BREAK THROUGH A FOOT PEDAL ON THIS YEAR OF TRUCK AND THEN PULL THE HANDLE TO RELEASE IT THE PARKING BREAK WILL ONLY COME BACK A LITTLE UNTIL YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY REACH DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND PULL THE PARKING BREAK FOOT PETAL BACK UP TO OPERATIONAL HEIGHT WHERE THE PARKING BREAK (EMERGENCY BREAK) IS NO LONGER APPLIED. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND THE CABLE IS STILL CONNECTED AND WILL ONLY BRING THE PARKING BREAK BACK UP AROUND A INCH UNTIL YOU HAVE TO PULL IT THE REST OF THE WAY BACK.

I STARTED TO NOTICE MY BRAKES AND STEERING COMPONENTS ARE VERY UNSAFE, MY STEERING WHEEL HAS TO MUCH PLAY, SOMETHING INSIDE THE STEERING MAKES A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE WHEN I HIT A BUMP, THE BRAKES DON?T OPERATE CORRECTLY, THE TRUCK SHAKES AND MAKES THE STEERING VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES DUE TO THE SHAKING AND VIBRATION. I WAS TOLD IT MIGHT BE LEAKING HYDRAULIC FLUID. BUT TO SUM IT ALL UP TODAY ON 06-02-2020, I REALIZED THE TRUCK IS ONLY GETTING WORSE AND GETTING HARDER TO STEER AND THE BRAKES CAUSE THE STEERING TO MAKE IT EVEN HARDER TO DRIVE WITH ALL THE SHAKING AND PULLING TO THE SIDE AND ALSO I NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL BE REALLY HARD AT TIMES AND THEN REALLY LIGHT AT TIMES. *TR

I PRESSED THE BRAKES HARD TO AVOID HITTING A DEER. ONCE I PRESSED THE PEDAL, THE TRUCK SLOWED AND THEN THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. A STEEL BRAKE LINE BELOW THE CAB BLEW. AFTER INSPECTION, I FOUND THAT ALL THE ORIGINAL STEEL LINES WERE SIGNIFICANTLY RUSTED.

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.

BRAKES FAILED ON HIGHWAY DUE TO RUSTED LINES. BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. BRAKE LINE WAS SO RUSTED IT HAD A HUGE HOLE IN IT DUE TO THE RUST.
I KNOW MY TRUCK IS 14 YEARS OLD. BUT MY BRAKE LINES RUST OUT NEAR THE ABS BLOCK AND NEAR THE FUEL TANK ON THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK. WHICH IS ODD TO HAPPEN AT THE SAME TIME. I HAVE HEARD OF PEOPLE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK LINE SOONER THEN ME. NOW I HAVE A 85 TRANS AM MADE BY GM AND HAVEN'T HAD THIS PROBLEM . I THINK THE NHTSA AND GM NEED TO LOOK AT THIS CLOSER. THIS HAPPEN TO ME THIS MORNING ON MY WAY OUT TO WORK AND IT SCARED THE HELL OUT ME LUCKY I WAS JUST IN MY DRIVE WAY. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY TRUCK AND DON'T ABUSE IT. I TRY TO KEEP UP ON THE UNDER BODY AND FRAME AFTER SNOW STORMS BY RINSING OFF THE UNDER BODY AND FRAME. NOW I WAS INFORMED I WILL COST ME ANY WERE FROM $1500.00 TO$ 2000.00 TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. NOT A HAPPY CAMPER. JUST GLADE I WASN'T ON THE ROAD DOING 50. AS I TAKE LOCAL AND STATE HIGH WAYS TO WORK.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, TRAFFIC MOUNTED UP AND CARS VIGOROUSLY APPLIED BRAKED. BRAKED TRUCK, WHICH SLOWED AT FIRST, THEN PEDAL SANK TO FLOOR AND CEASED TO STOP. EMERGENCY BRAKE DEPLOYMENT PERFORMED REMAINING NECESSARY STOPPING (JUST BARELY). INSPECTION FOUND BADLY RUSTED BRAKE LINE RUPTURED NEAR THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE, AS THE METAL LINE MEETS RUBBER. ALL LINES BADLY RUSTED WHILE LITTLE OTHER UNDERCHASSIS SHOWS ANY RUST AT ALL.

YESTERDAY MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I COULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK. I PUT MY BLINKERS ON AND DROVE ABOUT TWO MILES AN HOUR TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC AND HE SAID ALL THE BRAKE LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE ARE RUSTED OUT AND LEAKING FLUID TO A COST OF $750.00. IT IS IN THE SHOP RIGHT NOW SO I WON'T HAVE THE INVOICE FOR A FEW DAYS. HE ALSO SAID THE THE FUEL LINES LOOK RUSTED ALSO AND HOPES THEY WON'T BREAK WHILE FIXING THE BRAKE LINES.

UPON EXITING HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH, I APPLIED BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. THE BRAKES FELT SPONGY THEN WENT TO THE FLOOR. TRIED TO PUMP WITH NO RESULTS. THIS WAS A SINGLE LANE EXIT RAMP WITH A CAR TURNING LEFT AND ONE TURNING RIGHT AT THE END OF THE RAMP. STILL AT APPROX. 60 MPH I HAD NOWHERE TO GO. DOWN SHIFT TO 2ND AND APPLY PARKING BRAKE. FINALLY ONE CAR TURNS AND I BLAST THROUGH INTERSECTION ABOUT 40-45MPH AND JUST MISSED T-BONING ANOTHER VEHICLE. AS I WENT DOWN THE ENTRANCE RAMP BACK ONTO HWY. I WAS ABLE TO BRING TRUCK TO A STOP. LATER INSPECTION OF TRUCK SHOWED ALL 4 BRAKE LINES FROM ABS TO FRONT OF TRUCK SEVERELY RUSTED WITH ONE RUPTURED. REAR BRAKE LINE ALSO RUSTED. G.M. NEED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. AT THE SPEED I WAS TRAVELING I HAD SECONDS TO MAKE A DECISION. I WAS LUCKY THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME TURNED AND I MISSED THE CAR ON THE CROSSROAD. THIS TRUCK HAS 85,XXX MILES AND HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN IN SNOW OR BAD WEATHER MAYBE A HALF DOZEN TIMES DURING ITS LIFE SO CORROSION SHOULD HOT HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE. I'VE OWNED MANY CARS WITH 200,000 PLUS MILES AND NEVER HAD BRAKE LINE ISSUES. I BELIEVE WITH AS MANY COMPLAINTS AS I READ ABOUT THIS PROBLEM YOU NEED TO FORCE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS DISABLED FOR THE REST OF THERE LIFE, OR SOMEONE LOSES A FAMILY MEMBER!!!

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SERPENTINE BELT AND IDLER PULLEY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 151,041.

THE BRAKE LINES ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ARE BADLY CORRODED AND ONE OF THEM HAS FAILED. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK HAD NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I LIVE IN KENTUCKY AND I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK SINCE NEW. WE RECEIVE A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF BAD WINTER WEATHER HERE SO I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY SALT. THIS TRUCK IS ONLY 13 YEARS OLD.

2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXPERIENCED COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. DRIVING DOWN A SHORT HILL, BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED COMPLETELY TO FLOOR WITH NO BRAKE RESPONSE OR STOPPING AVAILABILITY. DRIVING @ APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD LITTLE EFFECT AND HAD TO TURN INTO A DIRT HILL TO STOP THE TRUCK. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, 4 BRAKE LINES DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH THE CAB ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED WITH 2 LINES FAILING SIMULTANEOUSLY RELEASING BRAKE FLUID ONTO THE GROUND. THE 2 LINES FROM THE PROPORTIONING VALVE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO THE ABS AND THE 2 LINES FROM THE ABS TO THE 2 FRONT WHEELS RUN PARALLEL UNDER THE CAB AND ARE SEVERELY CORRODED IN 2 PLACES ONLY. THE 4 LINES WERE SEVERELY RUSTED AT THE POINT OF THE PLASTIC CLIPS THAT SECURE THE LINES TO THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK. THE PLASTIC CLIPS THAT HOLD THE BRAKE LINES HOLD MOISTURE AND SALT AND CAUSE ALL THE BRAKE LINES TO CORRODE AT THOSE POINTS. IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THERE IS NO RUST IN THE LINES TO THE REAR OF THE TRUCK OR AT BOTH REAR BRAKE CALIPERS. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR OR LACK OF MAINTENANCE. I CLEAN THE UNDERSIDE OF MY VEHICLE EVERY WINTER. THE LINES ARE RUSTING AS A RESULT OF THE CLIPS RETAINING SALT AND CORROSIVES AND CAUSING YEAR ROUND CONTACT TO THE BRAKE LINES. IS ANYONE READING OR INVESTIGATING HERE? THERE ARE LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS HERE REGARDING THIS EXACT ISSUE. I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE POST THAT LIST THE CORROSION IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT AS MY TRUCK. THESE LINES RUST NOT FROM NORMAL WEAR BUT BECAUSE OF A DEFECTIVE CLIP DESIGN. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE LEFT SHOULDER THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 108,000. TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE ON 2 OCCASIONS, BOTH WITH TRAILER ATTACHED - BADLY RUSTED BRAKE LINES TO BOTH FRONT WHEELS BURST UNDER THE ADDED PRESSURE OF STOPPING WHILE TRAILERING. OTHER LINES TO THE REAR ARE ALSO BADLY RUSTED, BUT HAVE NOT YET FAILED. FRONT LINES (PROVIDING THE MAJORITY OF BRAKING) ARE HELD IN HORIZONTAL PLASTIC CLIPS THAT DO NOT READILY DRAIN, AND ACCELERATE CORROSION DAMAGE. BOTH INCIDENTS INVOLVED NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS AND POSSIBLE INJURIES. ONE, WHILE BACKING THE TRAILER INTO PARKING SPOT WITH SOMEONE BEHIND PROVIDING DIRECTIONS, AND THE OTHER JUST AFTER HOOKING UP THE TRAILER AND PROCEEDING INTO TRAFFIC (IF THAT FAILURE HAD BEEN ONE STOP LATER, IT WOULD HAVE OCCURRED WHILE STOPPING TO TURN ONTO A HIGHWAY). DUE TO A FEAR OF ADMITTING GUILT, GM HAS NOT OFFERED REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR PURCHASE, AND ALL NEW LINES MUST BE CUSTOM BUILT, WITH A COST ESTIMATE OF OVER $1000 TO REPLACE THE BUNDLE OF ALL 5 LINES. FINALLY, THIS TRUCK (1 OWNER) IS OTHERWISE TOTALLY RUST FREE - THERE IS NO EXPLANATION FOR THE FIRST 2 THINGS TO RUST OUT ON AN OTHERWISE RUST-FREE TRUCK TO BE BRAKE LINES. WHEN I LOOKED FOR THE CAUSE I QUICKLY DISCOVERED THAT MY BRAKE LINES WERE SO BADLY CORRODED THEY LOOKED LIKE THEY CAME FROM THE SUNKEN TITANIC. I HAVE LIVED IN 2 STATES THAT GET SNOW IN THE WINTER BUT AFTER EVERY SNOWFALL I'VE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO THE LOCAL CAR WASH AND USED THE UNDERBODY WASH FEATURE. I WAS CLOSE TO MY MECHANICS GARAGE AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO THE GARAGE WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT ALL OF MY BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED AND RUSTED THROUGH HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT A BRAKE CALIPER NEEDED REPLACED DUE TO ALL OF THE BRAKE LINE CORROSION. THE MECHANIC ALSO INFORMED ME THAT ALL THE FUEL LINES WERE CORRODED AND ALSO NEEDED REPLACED. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME HE HAS REPLACED BRAKE LINES ON SEVERAL SILVERADO'S ALL DUE TO CORROSION. THIS TRUCK ONLY HAS 65,665 MILES ON IT AND WAS SELDOM DRIVEN IN SNOW. I'M NOT SURE WHY THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON THESE TRUCKS. IF MY WIFE OR ONE OF MY KIDS WAS DRIVING THIS THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT. ON 7/23/15, WHILE ON VACATION, THE VEHICLE SUFFERED A SUDDEN LOSS OF ALL BRAKING POWER. FORTUNATELY, MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK STOPPED IN TIME BEFORE HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF US BY SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL AND PULLING THE PARKING BRAKE. AFTER PULLING OFF OF THE ROAD AND OPENING THE HOOD, WE DISCOVERED THAT A SMALL FIRE HAD STARTED FROM THE SPRAYING BRAKE FLUID HITTING THE HOT MANIFOLD. AGAIN, WE WERE FORTUNATE TO GET IT DOUSED IN TIME BEFORE ANY MAJOR DAMAGE OCCURRED. ONCE WE FOUND OUT THAT THE FRONT LEFT METAL BRAKE LINE HAD CRACKED, WE CAREFULLY MADE OUR WAY TO ADVANCE AUTO USING THE NEUTRAL AND THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP US WHEN NEEDED. MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO PATCH THE CORRODED BRAKE LINE IN THE PARKING LOT OF AUTO AT 8 PM AT NIGHT ONLY TO DISCOVER THE OTHER FRONT LINE WAS CRACKED AS WELL. BY THIS TIME IT WAS TOO LATE TO FIX SO WE MADE A HARROWING TRIP BACK TO OUR HOTEL WITHOUT ANY REAL BRAKES. GOOD THING THEIR WASN'T MUCH TRAFFIC AND WE WERE CLOSE TO OUR HOTEL. THE NEXT DAY WE WERE ABLE TO FIND A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP TO REPLACE THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE. THEY MENTIONED THEY HAD REPLACED ONE ON A CHEVY SUBURBAN ONLY A DAY EARLIER FROM INDIANA FOR THE SAME REASON. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR THIS ISSUE, I MUST STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH GM WHEN THEY STATED THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES IS SPLIT BETWEEN THE FRONT AND THE REAR AND THAT "SHOULD A BRAKE PIPE SUDDENLY FAIL FOR ANY REASON, THE AFFECTED VEHICLE WOULD BE CAPABLE OF STOPPING WITH THE PRESSURE SUPPLIED BY THE REMAINING CIRCUIT." WE HAD NO BRAKE PRESSURE AT ALL AND HAD NO WAY OF STOPPING. IT WAS ONLY MY HUSBAND'S QUICK THINKING THAT SAVED OUR FAMILY AND ANOTHER FAMILY FROM AN ACCIDENT. I HOPE THIS MATTER WILL BE INVESTIGATED FURTHER.

DRIVING 45 MILES PER HOUR ALONG A RURAL ROAD FOLLOWING ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE I WAS FOLLOWING APPLIED HIS BRAKES TO TURN LEFT ONTO A SIDE ROAD. WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES I FELT THE ABS SYSTEM KICK IN, THEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT IMMEDIATELY TO THE FLOOR WITH ONLY MINIMAL STOPPING POWER. I HAD TO DRIVE UP ONTO A LAWN TO AVOID CRASHING INTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. BECAUSE MY TRUCK IS A STANDARD TRANSMISSION, I WAS ABLE TO NURSE IT HOME. THIS IS THE SECOND BLOWN BRAKE LINE I'VE HAD ON THIS TRUCK. IN AUGUST OF 2014 WHILE TOWING A TRAILER I HAD A BRAKE LINE FAIL. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND. I REPLACED THE RUSTED LINE AND BLED THE BRAKES, AFTER WHICH THEY OPERATED NORMALLY. I'VE OWNED THIS TRUCK SINCE NEW, PURCHASED IN DECEMBER OF 2003, AND NOTICED WITHIN A COUPLE YEARS THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTING UNUSUALLY QUICKLY. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION, I FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES (AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LINES) WERE RUSTED VERY BADLY AND ONE OF THEM HAD RUPTURED. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND IT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED VERY WELL AND HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN AN AVERAGE OF 4000 MILES YEARLY WITH VERY LIMITED EXPOSURE TO THE ELEMENTS. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THESE BRAKE LINES SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD THIS FAILURE. IT IS ALSO MY OPINION THAT THE TYPE OF MATERIALS USED FOR THESE BRAKE LINES ARE NOT ADEQUATE FOR THIS APPLICATION AND ARE A SAFETY CONCERN. I HAVE OWNED OTHER VEHICLES WHICH WERE MUCH OLDER AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE NOW. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH OTHER GM TRUCKS OF THIS YEAR AND FEEL GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REPLACE THESE BRAKE LINES AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. I PUMPED BREAKS BUT THE PEDAL CONSISTENTLY PUSHED TO ABOUT 1/2" FROM THE FLOOR. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO AVERT COLLISION BY SWITCHING LANES (SHOULDER) AND TURNED ON FLASHERS. I SLOWED TO ABOUT 25 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND PULLED OVER TO THE NEAREST SAFE SPOT. FIRST I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID - WHICH WAS DOWN FROM THE WEEKEND SIGNIFICANTLY. THEN I LOOKED AT THE WHEELS AND THEY LOOKED OK. CRAWLING UNDER THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE GAS TANK AREA, FROM THE CABLES FOR THE EMERGENCY BREAK, SPRAY OVER THE SPARE TIRE AND SPRAY ON THE INSIDE OF THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE. ALL LIQUID (WHICH APPEARED TO BE BRAKE FLUID) WAS ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME, I CRAWLED UNDER THE TRUCK & INSPECTED MORE CLOSELY. THERE WERE APPARENTLY 2 SPOTS WHERE THE BRAKE LINES HAD CORRODED (ONE WAS NOT VISIBLE - ABOVE THE GAS TANK - BUT OBVIOUSLY THE MAJOR LEAK WAS THERE). THE SECOND LEAK WAS FROM THE STEEL LINE THAT JOINED NEAR THE RUBBER BRAKE LINE ON THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. TRUCK IS NOT DRIVABLE AT 41000 MILES. *TR

I WAS STOPPING AT A CROSSWALK PEDESTRIAN CROSSING AND I STARTED TO STOP, REDUCED SPEED TO ABOUT 10 MPH AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR, THERE WAS NO BRAKING FORCE LEFT AT ALL. I WENT THROUGH THE CROSS WALK AND STOPPED WITH THE PARKING BRAKE DOWN THE STREET. I HAD TO STEER INTO THE OTHER LANE TO AVOID THE PEDESTRIAN AND ANOTHER CAR. I LIVE IN ATLANTIC CANADA, SIMILAR CLIMATE TO NEW ENGLAND, I JUST THOUGH I WOULD ADD MY INCIDENT TO YOUR FILE AS THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESS BY GM, I AM ALSO INFORMING TRANSPORT CANADA, AND GM CANADA. WE HAVE ANNUAL SAFETY INSPECTIONS IN NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA AND THIS WAS DONE AT THE GM DEALERSHIP IN MARCH, 2014, THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO IN THE GM DEALERSHIP IN SEPT., 2014 FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE BRAKE LINE BROKE A FEW WEEKS LATER. IT IS OBVIOUS IN THE APPEARANCE, THAT THE MATERIAL USED TO MAKE THE BRAKE LINES WERE NOT CONSISTENT WITH THE CORROSION RESISTANCE OF THE OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY, NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE AT THE INTERSECTION WHEN I ARRIVED. PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE, THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING SIGNS THAT THE BRAKES HAD FAILED. THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR DID NOT COME ON UNTIL AFTER THE BRAKES FAILED AND THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN THE FUNCTIONING OF THE BRAKES BEFORE THE FAILURE TO GIVE ANY INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I LIVE IN A MOUNTAINOUS REGION AND I AM VERY THANKFUL THAT THE BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED, ON A RELATIVELY FLAT ROAD, AT AN INTERSECTION WITH NO CARS PRESENT. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED ON THE MAIN ROADS WHICH ARE CURVY AND STEEP IN THIS AREA OR HAD TO STOP SUDDENLY, THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE, AND PROBABLY WOULD HAVE, BEEN VERY DIFFERENT AND TRAGIC. THE TRUCK WAS REPAIRED AT THE NEAREST CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. THE COST OF REPLACING THE BRAKE LINES CAME TO $1,760.27. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY RUSTED BRAKE LINES. IT IS NOTEWORTHY THAT THIS SAME DEALERSHIP REPLACED BY BRAKE DISKS LESS THAN 15 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT AND THEY DID NOT NOTICE THAT THE LINES WERE RUSTED AT THAT TIME. I COULD SMELL SOMETHING WHICH MUST HAVE BEEN BRAKE FLUID THAT EMPTIED ALL OVER GROUND. THE IDIOT LITE SAID SERVICE BRAKES AND WAS BEEPING VERY LOUD. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND THE NEW BRAKE LINES ARE GOING TO COST ABOUT SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS TO INSTALL COATED STEEL LINES WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN INSTALLED FROM THE FACTORY. ALL FOREIGN CARS COME WITH COATED OR COPPER BRAKE LINES. WHY CAN'T AMERICAN AUTO BUILDERS DO IT FOR OUR OWN COUNTRY? ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION CAME COMPLETELY INTO MY LANE. AS I APPROACHED THE NEXT TURN IN THE ROAD (A SHARP 20 MPH TURN) ON A 45 MPH ROAD, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK BARELY SLOWED ENOUGH TO MAKE IT THOUGH THE TURN. I THEN LIMPED THE NEXT QUARTER MILE USING THE PARKING (EMERGENCY) BRAKE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE UNTIL I GOT TO A SAFE PLACE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. AT THAT POINT, I REALIZED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM AT LEAST ONE OF THE STEEL HYDRAULIC LINES INSIDE THE WHEEL WELL ABOVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WHEEL. THE BRAKE LINES FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO THE REAR AND FRONT BRAKES WERE ALL CORRODED WITH BRAKE FLUID GUSHING FROM THE SYSTEM WITH EACH PEDAL DEPRESSION. THIS WAS A SERIOUS LIFE-THREATENING EVENT. WE WERE TRAVELING WITH OUR FAMILY IN THE TRUCK AT THE HIGHWAY SPEED OF 65 MPH WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. IF IT HAD BEEN DAYLIGHT HOURS WITH MORE TRAFFIC, WE COULD QUITE EASILY HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AS THE TRUCK'S STOPPING CAPABILITY BECAME NON-EXISTENT. ALL BRAKE BLEEDERS ARE RUSTED BEYOND BEING ABLE TO BLEED THE SYSTEM, BACKING PLATES RUSTED AWAY. OF ALL RECALLS OUT THERE AND THIS ISN'T ONE IS OUTRAGEOUS. NO WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD, NOR WAS THERE ANY INDICATION THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. AS THE CONSUMER WAS SPEEDING TOWARD THE STOPPED CAR IN FRONT OF HIM, WITH NO BRAKES, HE SAW A DRIVEWAY LEADING TO A SMALL SHOPPING AREA. HE TURNED ABRUPTLY INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND WAS ABLE TO STOP, USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WITHOUT DAMAGE TO HIS VEHICLE OR ANY OTHER VEHICLES OR PROPERTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND BRAKE FLUID WAS LOST.

I THEN CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE HAD NO ISSUES WITH THE BRAKE LINES ON THESE TRUCKS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP ME. PROPER REPAIR WILL CALL FOR REPLACEMENT OF ALL BRAKE LINES ON THE TRUCK. I FEEL THIS IS A HIDDEN DEFECT THAT WILL ONLY BECOME MORE SERIOUS WITH TIME. IT IS NOT VISIBLE DURING NORMAL SERVICING. THE BRAKES DID THEIR USUAL RANDOM LOWER THAN USUAL DEPRESSION. JUST AS I ROLLED UP TO THE SECURITY KEYPAD THE BRAKES FAILED. AT THIS POINT ALL THE BRAKE AND THE SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHTS CAME ON. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I DO THANK ABOVE I BECAME ILL THAT WEEKEND AND SKIPPED THE BOAT FISHING TOURNAMENT TO LAKE HURON HOURS AWAY. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTROUS AND TAKEN MY LIFE!!! I PUT FLUID IN IT BUT IT DID NOT HELP. I MADE IT 1/2 MILE DOWN THE ROAD TO THE AUTO STORE FOR MORE FLUID. IT DID NOT HELP. I MADE IT ANOTHER 1/2 MILE HOME BY USING THE POORLY ADJUSTED EMERGENCY BRAKE (PREVIOUS OWNERS NEGLECT PROBABLY) AND THE 1 INCH OF BRAKE PRESSURE LEFT IN THE REGULAR BRAKES. I WAS IN UTTER SHOCK TO SEE THE AMOUNT OF RUST. NOT ONLY THE BRAKE LINE BUT THE OTHER LINES, ALSO. THAT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE EVEN FOR A 2004 TRUCK. I HAVE OLDER VEHICLES THAN THIS WITH VERY LITTLE OR NO RUST ON COMPONENT LINES. THIS WAS INTENTIONAL BY GM? MAYBE TO MAKE SURE TO MAKE SERVICE MONEY ON SUCH A DEPENDABLE VEHICLE? WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY, IN TRAFFIC, I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HEARD A POPPING SOUND WHICH APPEARED TO BE IN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AREA OF THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION IT APPEARS A BRAKE LINE DRIVER SIDE, JUST BEHIND THE DRIVER HAD RUSTED AND FAILED, EMPTYING ALL THE BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE HAD I BEEN TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE. I AM QUITE A GOOD MECHANIC BUT THIS IS A VERY DIFFICULT FIX AS WELL. THIS TRUCK IS A 2004 AND VERY WELL MAINTAINED. TRAFFIC WAS MOVING ACROSS THE INTERSECTION IN THE 35 MPH ZONE ON A GREEN LIGHT. I NOTICED THAT THE FUEL LINES WERE ALSO SEVERELY RUSTED IN THE SAME AREA. I AM 65 YEARS OLD AND HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES OVER MY LIFETIME (INCLUDING CLASSIC CARS), BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD A BRAKE LINE RUST AS BAD AS THESE. I AM EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT I WASN'T ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO MAKE A QUICK STOP FOR TRAFFIC AHEAD. I HAVE A TENDENCY TO BEGIN BRAKING EARLY, WHICH KEPT ME FROM RUNNING A RED LIGHT INTO A BUSY 4-LANE INTERSECTION. REALIZING THAT SOMETHING HAD HAPPENED TO MY BRAKES, I CONTINUED TO THE HOSPITAL DRIVING CAREFULLY SO THAT I HAD EXCESSIVE BRAKING DISTANCES AND/OR AN AVAILABLE RUN OFF AREA. UPON ARRIVING AT THE HOSPITAL I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, WAITED ABOUT TEN SECONDS AND RESTARTED IT TO TEST IF THE BRAKES HAD MANAGED TO PRESSURIZE. UPON DEPRESSING THE BRAKE, THE PEDAL TRAVELED TO ROUGHLY AN INCH ABOVE THE FLOOR AND THE DRIVER INFORMATION CONSOLE DISPLAYED A WARNING, ACCOMPANIED BY A CHIME, INDICATING THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE SERVICED. SO I SENT MY MOTHER INSIDE TO VISIT WITH MY FATHER WHILE I CALLED MY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP SHOWED ME WHERE THE BREAK LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND WONDERED ABOUT WHERE ALL OF THE RUST HAD COME FROM (NOT AS MUCH SNOW HERE IN THE DEEP SOUTH). I LATER HAD MY TRUCK TOWED FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO A PEP BOYS DOWN THE ROAD BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP WAS LYING TO ME ABOUT WHAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND INFLATING THE COST OF THE PARTS. HAVING TAKEN SOME TIME TO LOOK AROUND THE INTERNET FOR INFORMATION REGARDING THESE LINES, I SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY MANY COMPLAINTS OF PRECISELY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE. ON MY WAY TO WORK, NORMAL DRIVING AND BRAKING, APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT, LIGHT CHANGED TO YELLOW, I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL, PEDAL CONTINUED TO TRAVEL AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION AFTER THE LIGHT HAD TURNED RED. NO ACCIDENT OR INJURY. I WILL MOST LIKELY RECEIVE A TICKET AS THE LIGHT HAS A CAMERA THAT PHOTOGRAPHS ANYONE RUNNING THE LIGHT AND SENDS THEM A TICKET IN THE MAIL. THIS TIME, A LINE GOING TO THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT CALIPER BROKE. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE BACK TO MY GARAGE WHERE I CUT OUT AND BEGAN THE DIFFICULT TASK OF REPLACING THIS LINE. I ALSO NOTICED THE LINE GOING TO THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT CALIPER WAS EQUALLY RUSTED, BUT HAD NOT BROKEN YET. IT IS NOW THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21ST. I HAVE MISSED 3 DAYS OF WORK AND NOW I WILL HAVE TO HAVE MY TRUCK TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP I WORK AT WHERE I WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE TO REMOVE THE BODY OF THE TRUCK FROM THE FRAME TO PROPERLY INSTALL NEW BRAKE LINES TO THE FRONT CALIPERS. I HAVE SAVED THE OLD BRAKE LINES AS EVIDENCE. THEY LOOK MORE LIKE ROTTEN TWIGS THAN THEY LOOK LIKE STEEL BRAKE LINES. IT'S DISGRACEFUL THAT A VEHICLE ONLY 9 YEARS OLD WOULD NEED ALL NEW BRAKE LINES WHEN I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OLD VEHICLES FROM THE 70'S AND 80'S WHICH HAD ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES THAT DID NOT BREAK. LEAVING A PARKING LOT, I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AT THE STOP SIGN. THE BRAKES INITIALLY WORKED, THEN THE PEDAL QUICKLY WENT TO THE FLOOR. I BEGAN PUMPING THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE ROLLED OUT INTO THE STREET. I SWERVED TO THE RIGHT, AND ANOTHER VEHICLE COMING FROM THE LEFT SWERVED LEFT TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I BACKED INTO THE PARKING LOT AND TESTED THE BRAKES. EACH TIME I APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES WOULD ENGAGE A MINIMAL AMOUNT, BUT THE PEDAL WOULD VERY QUICKLY GO TO THE FLOOR. WITHOUT CONSTANT PUMPING, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE AT ALL. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I FOUND THE BRAKE LINES UNDER THE HOOD SEVERELY CORRODED, AND A SIGNIFICANT LEAK FROM A LINE DIRECTLY BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER. MY MECHANIC REPLACED ALL THE BRAKE LINES EXCEPT THE TWO RUNNING TO THE BACK BRAKES. CONTRARY TO WHAT GM ADVERTISES, THIS BRAKELINE RUPTURE RESULTED IN A COMPLETE FAILURE OF BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES. IN OLDER SYSTEMS, THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES WERE OPERATED FROM TWO COMPLETELY SEPARATE HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS. I UNDERSTAND THAT NEWER BRAKING SYSTEMS USE SOME TYPE OF METERING VALVE BETWEEN FRONT AND REAR BRAKES. IT IS CLEAR TO ME THAT THIS SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK AS EXPECTED. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT ISSUE, AND I AM FORTUNATE THAT THIS DID NOT RESULT IN A SEVERE ACCIDENT. THREE FACTORS PREVENTED AN ACCIDENT. MY SLOW SPEED, MY ABILITY TO SWERVE TO THE RIGHT, THE OTHER DRIVERS ABILITY TO SWERVE TO THE LEFT. WITHOUT ALL THREE, A SEVERE ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. *TR

I WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE SERVICE BRAKE PEDAL LIGHT WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL. THERE WAS NO WARNING SIGNS OF AN ISSUE AT THIS POINT. DUE TO THE LIGHT TURNING GREEN I WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OFF MINE AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT. I PROCEED TO A SAFE LOCATION CAREFULLY TESTING THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THE PEDAL TO BE SOFT. I PULLED INTO A AREA QUICKLY AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK BEFORE THE VEHICLE MOVED MORE THAN A FOOT OR TWO. I OPENED THE HOOD AND THE FLUID WAS ABOVE THE MIN MARK ON THE RESERVOIR THEN NOTICED FLUID ON THE GROUND UNDER THE CAB. THE BRAKE LINES APPEARED TO BE LEAKING AND SEVERELY CORRRODED WITH HOLES IN THE LINES FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

AFTER TOWING MY TRAILER TO MY SONS AND BACKING IT INTO THE BARN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AS I PULLED OUT. I HAD JUST WENT ABOUT 5 MILES AT ABOUT 50MPH WITH A 20 FOOT TRAILER. LUCKILY THE BRAKE LINE DIDN'T LET GO ON THE MAJOR ROAD I WAS ON. THE BRAKE FLUID WAS RUNNING OUT OF A RUSTED BRAKE LINE UNDER THE CAB. THIS TRUCK HAS 58,000 MILES ON IT AND IS KEPT IN A GARAGE IN THE WINTER. AFTER INSPECTING THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK I AM QUITE SURPRISED AT THE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FRAME AND SUSPENSION PARTS. THE UNDERSIDE OF THE FLOOR LOOKS LIKE NEW BUT THE BRAKE LINES LOOK ABOUT 50 YEARS OLD. I HAVE A HARD TIME BELIEVING THE GOVERNMENT WOULD LEAVE A SAFETY ISSUE JUST CONTINUE ON OUR HIGHWAYS. WHILE EXITING INTERSTATE 89 IN SWANTON VERMONT, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR WITH NEARLY NO BRAKING OCCURRING. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR PREVIOUS PROBLEMS. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY. AN INSPECTION REVEALED THE BRAKE LINE BURST VERY CLOSE TO THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE INSPECTION ALSO REVEALED THE ENTIRE BRAKE-LINES WERE RUSTED AND CORRODED BEYOND ANY NORMAL WEAR. THE REPAIRMAN STATED THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS ON A NUMBER OF SILVERADO'S AND THAT THEIR IS OBVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE QUALITY OF THE LINES. TURNED OFF VEHICLE AND STARTING VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE COMPONENTS. FLUID CHAMBER WAS FULL AND CLEAN. ABS MODULE WAS CLEAN AND ALL WIRES IN PLACE. THE BRAKE LINE ABOVE THE LEFT REAR FRAME RAIL HAD A SEVERE HOLE AND FLUID RUNNING OUT. LINES AND FITTINGS IN OTHER AREAS ARE ALSO CORRODED BUT NO LEAKS READILY IDENTIFIED. *TR

BRAKE LINE FAILURE - BRAKING ABILITY LOSS. WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SLOWLY FADING AND MOVING TOWARD THE FLOOR. I ASSUMED THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS FAILING IN SOME WAY AND DROVE VERY CAREFULLY. I STOPPED AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND SAW THAT FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM A BRAKE LINE UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER AREA, I STILL HAD USE OF THE REAR BRAKES, APPARENTLY ONLY THE FRONT SIDE HAD LEAKED. I NEVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE FORTUNATELY, AS I BECAME AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WHILE STOPPED. IF THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THINGS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DIFFERENT. MY LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACED THE TWO BRAKE LINES THAT RUN FROM THE EQUALIZER TO THE ABS UNIT AT A COST OF NEARLY $300.00. ALL THE LINES WERE BADLY CORRODED BUT I CAN'T AFFORD TO REPLACE THEM PROACTIVELY RIGHT NOW. HAVING READ MANY OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS I BELIEVE THAT GM SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE MORE DAMAGE, SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH OCCURS. *TR

AS I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK A SMALL CHILD ON A BICYCLE CAME INTO THE ROADWAY, AS I APPLIED MY BRAKES TO SLOW TO A STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I QUICKLY DEPLOYED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK'S FORWARD MOTION, LUCKILY I WAS ONLY TRAVELING AT ABOUT 25- 30 MPH WHEN THIS HAPPENED, HAD I BEEN ON A ROAD WITH A HIGHER SPEED LIMIT I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD ENOUGH TIME TO STOP MY VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION BY MY MECHANIC, I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT ALL OF MY BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED OUT AND THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO HAVE ALL THE LINES REPLACED. ONE WEEK BEFORE THIS INCIDENT, I WENT UP THE MT WASHINGTON AUTO ROAD IN NEW HAMPSHIRE WHILE ON VACATION WITH MY FAMILY AND CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY THAT WE ARE ALL ALIVE TODAY. I BELIEVE THE DOT SHOULD ISSUE OR TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION TO ADDRESS THIS OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER'S FLAW AS I HAVE FOUND OUT THIS A COMMON PROBLEM ON MANY SIMILAR GM CARS AND TRUCKS. THE DOT SHOULD AT LEAST NOTIFY OR HAVE GM NOTIFY OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES THAT THEY ARE IN DANGER ESPECIALLY IF THEY DRIVE THERE GM AFFECTED VEHICLES ON A MOUNTAIN ROAD OR HILLY TERRAIN. MY TRUCK IS ONLY EIGHT YEARS OLD WITH 83,000 MILES ON IT AND THESE BRAKE LINES SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED SO QUICKLY. THE DOT HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT THE CONSUMER AND THEY SHOULD TAKE SOME SORT OF ACTION TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. *TR

THE LAST INCH OR SO OF BRAKE TRAVEL SEMI-ENGAGED SOME BRAKING ALLOWING ME TO STOP (WHILE APPLYING EXTREME PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL). AT THE DEALER WAS INFORMED THAT ONE BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED SO BAD THAT IT BURST, AND ALL OTHER LINES SHOULD ALSO BE REPLACED AS THEY SHOWED THE SAME RUSTED, CORRODED CONDITION. QUOTED A PRICE OF NEARLY $3000 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THEM ALL. I'VE NEVER SKIMPED ON MAINTENANCE, AND SINCE THIS IS A GREAT VEHICLE (BESIDES THIS ISSUE), I'M GIVING THE GO-AHEAD FOR THE WORK.
