TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO CONSTANTLY PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL AND APPLY EXTREME FORCE TO ENSURE THAT THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND PARKED. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, IT WAS NOTICED THAT A BRAKE LINE MAY HAVE PREMATURELY FRACTURED AND THERE WAS A PRESENCE OF LEAKING FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V043000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO SOLUTION OTHER THAN TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED BY A DEALER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. ..UPDATED 11/21/16 *BF

UPON HAVING MY TRUCK INSPECTED FOR 2014, IT WAS REVEALED TO ME THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ON THE TRUCK WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND NEEDED REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A "COMMON" PROBLEM ON CHEVY TRUCKS. THE COST OF REPAIRING THE BRAKE LINES HAS BEEN ESTIMATED AT A MUCH HIGHER NUMBER THAN THE $500 THAT GMC QUOTES. ON TOP OF THAT I FAIL TO SEE WHY THEY CAN CREATE STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST SYSTEMS, BUT APPARENTLY USE CHEAP METAL FOR THEIR HARD BRAKE LINES. I ACTUALLY HAD THE TRUCK UNDERCOATED AT THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP SO THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH THESE TYPE OF ISSUES. I'M NOT SURE WHO UNDERCOATED THE VEHICLE, BUT I WILL NEVER GET IT DONE BY CHEVROLET AGAIN. I HAVE HAD MUCH OLDER VEHICLES (1982) THAT WENT DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF YEARS BEFORE NEEDING ANY HARD BRAKE REPAIRS. I HAVE READ ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION INTO THESE VEHICLES UP TO THE YEAR 2003, BUT I THINK THAT THE PROBLEM MUST STILL EXIST IN NEWER VEHICLES SUCH AS MINE. *TR

I WENT TO MOVE THIS TRUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY, WHEN I PUT IT IN REVERSE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, NEARLY HITTING MY CAR WHICH WAS BEHIND ME. I GOT OUT AND OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR WAS VERY LOW, AND THAT BRAKE FLUID HAD SQUIRTED ALL OVER THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE AND WAS ALSO LEAKING FROM A SECOND PLACE JUST UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER ALONG THE FRAME. THE BRAKE LINES WERE WET AND ARE VERY RUSTY, TO THE POINT OF SCALING. NOW, I CAN'T USE MY TRUCK, WHICH I VERY MUCH NEEDED ON 09/14/2013. THIS IS VERY DISGUSTING!

THE DISC BRAKE PADS WERE ONLY TOUCHING THE ROTORS IN AN AREA OF 1/2" ON THE INSIDE OF THE ROTORS. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WASN'T COVERED BY THE WARRANTY BECAUSE IT HAD MORE THAN 25000 MILES. I HAD TO REPLACE THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS AT MY OWN EXPENSE OF $400. *TR

WHILE BRAKING HARD FOR A TURN I CAME UP ON QUICKLY, AND AS I APPROACHED SLOWER SPEEDS, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM COMPLETELY RELEASED ALLOWING THE TRUCK TO SURGE FORWARD. I WAS JUST BEGINNING MY TURN AND I BELIEVE THERE WAS A SMALL AMOUNT OF SAND ON THE ROADWAY THAT CAUSED A WHEEL TO SLIDE MOMENTARILY BUT ALL THE BRAKES RELEASED IN A MANNER THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IF THERE WAS A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THE TRUCK MOVED FORWARD FOR A FULL 2 SECONDS PRIOR TO THE BRAKES RE-ENGAGING. THE BRAKES DID NOT IMMEDIATELY REAPPLY AS YOU WOULD EXPECT A PROPERLY WORKING SYSTEM TO BEHAVE. IT WASN'T THE RAPID APPLICATION YOU GET LIKE WHEN YOUR ON ICE. THE CONDITION HAS NOT REPEATED ITSELF TO DATE ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT TRIED TO RECREATE THE SAME CONDITIONS EITHER. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP WHEN THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED. HE SPOKE WITH TWO DEALERSHIPS AND ADVISED THEM THAT THE ABS DOEST ENGAGE WHEN IT SHOULD. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ABS FAILURE WAS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE. THE DEALER ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE ABS ROTOR AND SENSORS WOULD BECOME CORRODED AND THE ABS WOULD RESPOND AS IF THE TIRES WERE SKIDDING AND ENABLE IT AT THE INAPPROPRIATE TIME. THE ABS FUSE WAS CHECKED; HOWEVER, IT INDICATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HIM TO TAKE HIS VEHICLE TO A DEALER SO THAT THEY COULD PROVIDE THEM WITH THE FINDINGS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 49,700 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 49,600.
