The Active Fuel Management Lifters can cause catastrophic failures by getting stuck in the closed position causing low oil pressure, misfiring, and ticking due to the entire AFM system making the camshaft and valve train wear faster. It is available for inspection upon request. My safety is put at risk due to the possibility of causing accidents or leaving me stranded in an extreme environment. Issues with AFM (Active Fuel Management) systems in certain GM vehicles have been widely reported and confirmed by both dealers and independent service centers. Specifically, AFM lifter failures and related issues, particularly in older models, are common diagnose The vehicle component has not been inspected by anyone. There was a low oil pressure warning light along with lifter tick prior to failure and first appeared at around 160k miles.

Cylinder 6 misfire. The mechanics have replaced everything that could be triggering the cylinder 6 misfire and still it is having problems they said the only way to fix it is to replace the engine but I should not have to replace an engine with low miles and that has been babied. I have also looked on multiple sites with people who own the same truck and all have the same exact problem with the same cylinder. Something needs to be done about this issue especially if it’s a reoccurring one, either have a recall on it and fix it or something.

The Trucks equipped with DOD system also known as Active Fuel Management in the V6 and the V8 engines cause the truck to consume more oil and cause lack of oil to the lifters which then fail and cause the truck to lose power and smoke really bad and can cause the truck to die while driving and when you love engine power it can cause an accident it's also can cause the more internal engine problems I have reported this issue before for and nothing has happened then problem needs to be fixed is a design flaw and can cause an accident which could also get someone killed along with the bad airbag on passenger side GM needs to take responsibility and fix this issue please for the safety of anyone who drives the the vehicles with the V6 or 5.3l V8 please get this issue recalled.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the RPMs increased rapidly; however, the vehicle lost significant motive power, after which the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the engine, requiring that the engine be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not assist. The failure mileage was 185,000.

The truck has the 5.3l engine which is DOD equipped and the DOD system causes lifters to fail and can ultimately destroy the engine while driving I had a lifter go bad and it causes the truck to run rough and smoke it's a major issue that happens in the 5.3l v8 engines something needs to be done cause it's causing major problems for any truck equipped with the DOD system.

After buying this used truck from GM certified dealership having advanced inspection before we took home 3 months in First start of the day about 7AM, 5-10min into driving, no MIL light, truck engine shut off hard to pull over and I tried to restart but wouldn't start. After waiting an hour for a tow truck I tried once more and it fired up. Cancelled tow drove home fine. But it did it a few more random times while driving until Oct. now it sits. Its scary when theres no MIL indicating a problem, but this is a problem and safety during travel. It wont start after 7 month ownership ,MIL light is now on saying U0100. Bought 4/2021.

This 2007 Chevrolet Silverado has only 73,730 miles . The vehicle in question has an oil consumption issue and is available for inspection upon request. An oil consumption issue will lead to low oil and low oil pressure which can lead to a fire. Problem has been confirmed by an independent service center. Vehicle has been inspected by a certified automotive technician. Vehicle loses oil close to 100 miles and the add engine oil display on the Driver Information Center. Every trip that is close to 100 miles will cause oil consumption and the Add Engine Oil Will display. Vehicle was taken to a repair shop and i was informed that some Chevrolet Silverado Trucks engines will consume oil due to excessive amount of oil going to the pistons. The pistons result with damage to the piston rings and will need to be replaced. In the long run the engine will lose power start to smoke lose oil pressure and low compression which could lead to a fire .No recall was ever posted concerning this issue. I thought the consumption was due to viscosity breakdown until i noticed it got worse. I did some research and asked several silverado owners and they all had the same issue. I confirmed the issue when i took the vehicle to the technician.This vehicle only has 73,730 miles and i am the first owner.

NOW IT INTERMITTENTLY PULLS HARD WHEN ACCELERATING AT ANY SPEED. THIS CANNOT BE SAFE. DEALERSHIPS CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE ISSUE AND I AM HAVING TROUBLE GOOGLING ANY SPECIFIC REASON. MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE WITH LITTLE TO RESOLUTION. THIS IS INTERMITTENTLY SO IT THE STABILITRAC AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS COME ON AND OFF WITHIN MINUTES. TOOK IT TO A CHEVY DEALER AND WAS PLACED ON THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER AND I WAS TOLD CODES FOUND WERE PO174 AND PO171. SMOKE TEST WAS PERFORMED ON EVAP SYSTEM AND INDUCTION SYSTEM. FOUND LEAKS AT THE PCV HOSE, PURGE VALVE HOSES AND PURGE VALVE IS STUCK OPEN. THESE WERE REMOVED AND REPLACED BOTH PURGE VALVE HOSES, PURGE VALVE AND PCV HOSE. $523.80 LATER THE PROBLEM IS STILL NOT FIXED.

THE TRUCK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND HAS BEEN WELL-MAINTAINED. AT 127,000 THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A NOISE DIAGNOSED AS LIFTER NOISE. WITHIN A HUNDRED MILES OR SO, WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, IT STARTED TO MAKE A VERY LOUD NOISE, AND AGAIN DIAGNOSED AS LIFTERS ON AT LEAST 2 CYLINDERS NEEDING REPLACED. UPON THE ADVICE OF A 25+ YEAR GM MECHANIC I WILL BE REPLACING THE MOTOR AS THIS IS MOST COST EFFECTIVE AS WELL AS BUYING A PROGRAM CHIP TO BYPASS THE "ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT" WHICH HAS CAUSED THE PROBLEM. THE MANIFOLD BOLTS HAVE BROKEN OFF INTO THE HEAD OF THE ENGINE. RESULTING IN FAILURE OF SEAL TO HEAD FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. IN TURN, HAS CAUSED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO FAIL AND NOW THE VEHICLE REQUIRES EXTENSIVE WORK TO PASS EMISSIONS TESTING IN CALIFORNIA. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO FILED A CLAIM ON THE CONTACT'S BEHALF AND ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT HER AT A LATER DATE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
