My father purchased this truck brand new and inherited it from my father when he passed away. The truck has just under 100,000 miles on it and the service trailer brake system light came on in the dash. I have tried to reset it and it still comes right back. The truck hasn't ever been used commercially only as personal use. It is the only vehicle that I own and I don't know what to do I am disabled and I need help

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD DEPRESS TO THE FLOORBOARD WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE CALIPERS, TWO BRAKE LINES AND THE BRAKE PADS. DESPITE THE REPAIR, THE FAILURE RETURNED SOON AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CONTACT RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE SAME INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC BLED THE BRAKE LINE AND RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE CONTACT HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. ON THE THIRD VISIT, THE CONTACT HAD THE MASTER CYLINDER, THE TWO FRONT BRAKE LINES AND A BRAKE CALIPERS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 162,000.

ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUPTURED BECAUSE IT WAS RUSTED. THANK GOD I WASN'T DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE BRAKE LINE FAILED. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT GM AND NHTSA HAVE LONG BEEN AWARE OF THIS CRITICAL SAFETY PROBLEM. WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL ISSUED?

THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED VIOLENTLY AND THE VEHICLE JERKED. I WAS TRAVELING IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET WITH TRAFFIC PRESENT WHILE THIS OCCURRED. THIS NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AS I WAS BARELY ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD.

THE REPAIR WOULD COST $3,000. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS COMMON AMONG MANY OF THE SAME CHEVROLET VEHICLES. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED IN 2012 AND THEY COULD NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,082. *TT CONSUMER PURCHASED THE TRUCK NEW AND NOTICE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS RUSTING. CONSUMER SPRAY PAINTED THE HITCH. 2007 CHEVY SILVERADO CLASSIC CREW CAB: LOW SPEED PULSATION OF BRAKES, IF I WASN'T USE TO THIS CONDITION, IT COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL. I HAVE THIS PROBLEM ON AND OFF SINCE I PURCHASED IT BACK IN MAY OF 2010, THE DEALER REPLACED ROTORS AND PADS. IT WORKED FINE FOR A FEW THOUSAND MILES. THEN THE PROBLEM REAR UP AGAIN, I THOUGHT IT WAS WORN OR FAULTY PADS, REPLACED THE PADS, STILL PULSATES. HAD THE BEARINGS AND ROTORS CHECKED, NO ISSUE THERE. SO HERE I AM WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND NOT SOLUTION. I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR ALMOST 7 YEARS AND THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. CHEVY NEEDS TO OWN THIS. THE DAY AFTER I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK, WHILE STARTING TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AT MY MECHANIC'S SHOP, MY FOOT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I STOPPED, GOT OUT AND FOUND A LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND. THEY TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE SHOP AND FOUND ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE BADLY RUSTED AND 1 HAD COMPLETELY FAILED. DURING THE REPLACEMENT PROCESS THEY ALSO FOUND THE FUEL LINE WAS RUSTED SO I HAD IT REPLACED AS WELL. SHORTLY AFTER THAT, THE SERVICE AIRBAG WARNING STARTED COMING ON WHEN DRIVING THE TRUCK. THE VEHICLE WENT THROUGH THE STOP SIGN BUT DID NOT COLLIDE WITH ANY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. ACCORDING TO MANY OTHER INCIDENCES DESCRIBED ONLINE, THE EXACT SAME THING IS HAPPENING TO OTHERS. IN THE NORTHERN "SALT BELT", RUST AND CORROSION GATHERS AROUND THE FRONT BRAKE SENSORS AND PULLS THEM UPWARDS SENDING THE WRONG SIGNAL TO THE COMPUTER. THERE IS ALREADY A RECALL ON SOME CHEVROLET TRUCKS PRE-2005 FOR THE VERY SAME REASON. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND PREVENTABLE IF GM WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM ONCE AND FOR ALL.

BRAKE LINES HAD CORRODED AND A PIN HOLE LEAK ALLOWED BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK OUT OF THE SYSTEM WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. BRAKING ABILITY WAS GREATLY REDUCED. I WAS TOWING A BOAT AT THE TIME, MAKING THE FAILURE EVEN MORE DANGEROUS. INSPECTION SUBSEQUENTLY SHOWED THAT ALL FOUR LINES WHICH RUN FORWARD FROM THE ABS MODULE TO THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD SEVERAL AREAS OF SEVERE CORROSION. ALL THE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE USE OF CARBON STEEL BRAKE LINES WAS A POOR DESIGN DECISION. GM HAS SUBSEQUENTLY IN 2008 UPGRADED THE MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION, BUT OWNERS OF OLDER VEHICLES ARE AT RISK, AND SUBJECT TO AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR BILL.

THE WEIGHT OF THE BOAT AND THE STEEPNESS OF THE RAMP PULLED BY TRUCK IN TO THE BAY. THANK GOD MY FAMILY WAS OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE NHTSA MUST MANDATE THAT GM FIX ALL SEVERELY CORRODED BRAKE LINES AT EITHER A REDUCED OR NO-CHARGE FEE TO OWNERS. I AM BEING TOLD THAT A LARGE PORTION OF THE $1,200 LABOR FEE WILL BE FOR BENDING OF REPLACEMENT LINES. AT A MINIMUM, GM SHOULD BEAR THE COST OF THE LABOR INVOLVED IN BENDING OF THE LINES AS THEY REFUSE TO PROVIDE PERFORMED LINES TO THEIR DEALERS. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO DECELERATE WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKES UNTIL AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND BOOSTER WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. BRAKES WENT OUT IN DRIVEWAY. TOWED TO LOCAL GARAGE , FOUND ALL BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND PARTS OF LINES WERE SNAPPED APART. THIS HAPPENED WITH NORMAL DRIVING,NO INCIDENT. THANK GOD NOBODY WAS HURT. SAD TO SAY I HAVE LOST MY FAITH IN CHEVY!!! *TR *JS
