The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact noticed white smoke coming from the exhaust with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic; however, the failure was not duplicated. The contact stated that the following day, while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. Additionally, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact used a diagnostic machine and retrieved several codes indicating electrical failures. The vehicle was towed to another independent mechanic; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact stated that the engine had been replaced twice. The contact stated the last engine was replaced in 2021. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

T ruck left my wife totally stranded in the middle of a busy intersection. It was running but would not accelerate. I ran the codes and 2 codes that has never popped up before was P1682 and P2138. One said it could be the ignition and the other said it could be accelerator position sensor on gas peddle. My mechanic said this is a communication problem where the wires go into the ECM. Bad connection or moisture getting in. I have had a few wonky codes pop up that we believe to be bad connections. GM NEEDS TO GET THIS RECALLED AND RESOLVED. Trucks just stopping in the middle of the highway and in traffic is super dangerous. After i pushed on connection going into ecm, it started and I have not been able to duplicate code. We will see once it rains if it comes back. Way too many computers running these cars. A computer should never be involved with the running of engine, acceleration, braking or steering. KEEP THE COMPUTERS FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS!

The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V050000 (Air Bags); however, the contact was informed that the instrument panel failed to allow access to the odometer and the recall repair was denied. The dealer informed the contact that for the recall repair to be completed, an odometer reading was required. The contact stated that the instrument panel was functioning intermittently. The contact was concerned that the recall repair was not related to the odometer failure and provided the dealer with an approximate mileage; however, the recall remedy was still denied. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 178,002.

Vehicle abruptly malfunctioned (lose of power) while sitting at the traffic light during a heavy storm. Fortunately, I turned the vehicle off and restarted it, which gave me enough engine power to get a a safe place. I had the vehicle towed to Love Chevrolet, Columbia, SC. Dealership stated the entire wiring harness needed to be replaced. The replacement cost would be $3500. They also stated the wiring harness for this vehicle has been discontinued and I have to take the vehicle to an electrical shop to be fixed.

The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the check engine, the stabilitrak, the service trailer brake system, and the seat belt warning lights were illuminated before the vehicle began to decelerate. The contact stated that the vehicle turned off and back on independently. The contact stated he continued to experience the failure and parked on the side of the road for 30 minutes before restarting the vehicle and continued driving to his destination. The contact stated he had experienced the failure on 3 different occasions. The contact took the vehicle to two different independent mechanics and the second location informed him that the chassis electronic control module needed to be replaced. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with Manufacturer Communication Number: 14515B however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Yes the warning light came on before the air bag was replaced, If the waring light comes it indicates that the airbag is faulty, why is it going to cost me $791 to repair the sensor. Is this not a problem that should be resolved, as the airbag wont work if the sensor is not fixed. The air bag was replace At George Nahas on January 8th. At the time we were not told that the airbag would not work because the light was on. It was much later that a friend (mechanic) told me that the bag would not work if the light was on. Thus we contact Feldman and were told that the cost would be $791. Why replace the bag is it not going to work

MY NECK, SHOULDERS AND BACK HAVE BEEN DIFFICULT TO MOVE SINCE THIS HAPPENED. I TRIED TO LIFT THE HOOD BUT THAT WAS TOO HOT TO DO SO, I RAN INTO MY FRIENDS HOUSE SCREAMING FOR A FIRE EXTINGUISHER!! IF THE MODULE EXPERIENCES AN ELECTRICAL SHORT, THE VEHICLE COULD DISPLAY A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, STALL, OR FAIL TO START. IT IS MODEL YEAR TRUCK AND THE EXACT PART NUMBER OF THE CONTROL MODULE BUT THE LOCAL DEALER ADVISED GM DOES NOT LIST MY VIN AS BEING INVOLVED, EVEN THOUGH MY TRUCK IS LISTED IN THE MODEL YEAR BULLETIN AND IT IS THE EXACT PART NUMBER FOR ALL VEHICLES!! I FIRST CONTACTED THEM ON NOVEMBER 7, 2017 AND WAS TOLD THE DEVICE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. I CONTACTED THEM AGAIN ON MAY 10, 2018 AND SPOKE WITH AMANDA. AMANDA SAID SHE WOULD CHECK WITH HER MANAGER TO DETERMINE IF THE PART WAS AVAILABLE TO SCHEDULE THE FIX BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED. I DECIDED TO CALL CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER (1-800-222-1020) AND I SPOKE WITH JANE. I ASKED FOR THIS IN AN EMAIL OR LETTER BUT SHE SAID SHE WAS NOT AUTHORIZED TO RELEASE THIS INFORMATION IN WRITTEN FORM. 'ELECTRICAL ISSUE'. VEHICLE INSTRUMENTATION PANEL COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WHEN I SEARCH THE INTERNET. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT WITH THE AIR BAG, BUT THE FRONT SWITCH THAT ACTIVATES THE AIR BAGS UPON IMPACT. WHEN ONE OR BOTH FAIL THE TEST WHEN YOU TURN THE IGNITION ON, IT POSTS A MESSAGE SAYING SERVICE THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. THERE IS LOTS OF INFORMATION REGARDING THIS ON UTUBE. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. I AM AN ELECTRICIAN AND AN ELECTRONICS TECH, I KNOW THAT THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT ACTIVATE IF THE CRASH IS ON THE SIDE WITH A BAD AIR BAG. I HAD 2 BRAKE LIGHT SWITCHES GO OUT, AT WHICH TIME THE PERSON BEHIND ME,WOULD HAVE NO IDEA, I WAS BRAKING. EXPERIENCING SPORADIC ISSUES WITH MY TRUCKS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. WHAT WILL HAPPEN IS THAT AS I'M DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD (DOESN'T MATTER WHAT SPEED), I WILL HEAR A LOUD "POP" (SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE A DESKTOP COMPUTER LOSING POWER) AND THEN MY DASHBOARD/MONITOR SCREEN WILL GO DARK AND AFTER A SPLIT SECOND EVERYTHING COME BACK ON. THE DASHBOARD WILL FLASH ON AND OFF FOR A FEW MORE SECONDS. ABOUT EVERY THIRD TIME THIS HAPPENS, IF I PARK THE CAR AND TRY TO RESTART IT IT WON'T TURN OVER. IN THESE INSTANCES, I CAN HEAR CURRENT CYCLING THROUGH MY POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH ALONG WITH AN ELECTRIC CLICKING NOISE THAT WON'T STOP. IF I LET THE TRUCK SIT FOR 15 MINUTES OR SO, I CAN GET THE TRUCK TO RESTART. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED A COUPLE OF TIMES BECAUSE I COULD NEVER GET IT TO TURN OVER. THIS PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED WHEN THE TRUCK WAS 3-4 YEARS OLD AND STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THEY COULDN'T FIND THE ISSUE AND DIDN'T REPLACE ANY PARTS. NOW ALL THE REPAIRS ARE COMING OUT OF MY POCKET. I'VE REPLACED THE BATTERY A COUPLE TIMES THINKING I HAD A FAULTY BATTERY. LATER I REPLACED THE BATTERY CABLE THINKING THIS WAS THE CAUSE AND MOST RECENTLY REPLACED THE FUSE BOX. IN ALL INSTANCES, THE PROBLEM WOULD GO AWAY FOR ANYWHERE FROM 3-6 MONTHS AND THEN REAPPEAR. AS I SAID IT IS VERY INTERMITTENT WITH NO CONSISTENCY TO IT WHATSOEVER. MY TRUCK HAS NEVER DIED WHILE DRIVING WHEN THIS HAS OCCURRED, ALTHOUGH I'M SCARED TO DEATH IT WILL DO SO AND I'LL LOSE ALL POWER. MY BROTHER-IN-LAW IS A MASTER MECHANIC FOR A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND IT HAS HIM COMPLETELY STUMPED. HE'S READ THROUGH ALL THE TSB'S, CHECKED ON-LINE BLOG'S, ETC. AS WELL AS DOING HIS OWN TECHNICAL TROUBLESHOOTING, BUT CANNOT PIN DOWN THE EXACT ISSUE. AT THIS POINT WE'VE RESORTED TO REPLACING THE MOST LIKELY PARTS AND HOPING FOR THE BEST. REPLACED PART ORDERED FROM GM PARTS WEBSITE. A CONSTANT WATER LEAK COMES FROM UNDERNEATH DASH ALONG FIREWALL INTO DRIVERS SIDE FLOORBOARDS. WATER SOAKED CARPET AND INSULATION HAS WICKED TO REAR FLOOR AREAS. NO ONE HAS FOUND THE WATER SOURCE, BUT IT HAS RUSTED DRIVER SIDE DOOR PANEL SCREWS AND RUINED CARPET. WATER APPEARS TO BE WORSE WHEN USING HVACC OR DEFROSTER. REPLACED FUEL VENT VALVE SOLENOID UNDERNEATH TRUCK, NEAR REFUEL CAP/DOOR, THREE TIMES DUE TO CHECK ENG LIGHT.

AFTER HAVING DRIVEN VEHICLE A SHORT DISTANCE FOR AN APPOINTMENT, TRUCK WOULD NOT START AN HOUR LATER; HOWEVER, LIGHTS CAME ON DASH. I WAITED 10 SECONDS AND TRIED IT AGAIN, AND IT STARTED NO PROBLEM. THEN NO PROBLEM STARTING THE NEXT TIME BUT DRIVING AROUND TOWN THE RADIO START SHUTTING OFF FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS BEFORE COMING BACK ON. THIS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES, THEN AS I AM DRIVING, THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTS GOING HAYWIRE, LIGHTS FLASHING ON DASH WITH WARNING LIGHTS & MESSAGES GOING OFF ON DASH, THEN EVERYTHING BUT THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF (DASH LIGHTS, GAUGES, RADIO AND A/C), AFTER ABOUT 5 SECONDS EVERYTHING COMES BACK ON. I IMMEDIATELY DRIVE TO MY MECHANIC WHO HOOKED UP THE COMPUTER TO MY TRUCK AND SAID IT WAS MY IGNITION SWITCH. HE SAID HE COULD NOT GET ME IN THAT DAY AND ASKED ME TO BRING IT BACK THE NEXT DAY. SO THE REST OF THAT DAY I DID NOT HAVE ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS WITH IT. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND GOT THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED. WHILE THE MECHANIC HAD MY TRUCK FOR SEVERAL HOURS UNTIL I COULD GO BACK TO PICK IT UP, HE SAID HE STARTED IT MANY TIMES AND IT APPEARED TO BE FIXED. SO I LEAVE THE MECHANIC SHOP AND GO BACK TO WORK, THEN GET OFF WORK 2-3 HOURS LATER AND MY TRUCK WILL NOT START. AFTER ATTEMPING IT 3 TIMES, IT STARTED. I DRIVE HOME WHICH IS 10 MINUTES AWAY AND TURN THE TRUCK OFF AND BACK ON. ONLY WHEN I ATTEMPT TO TURN THE TRUCK ON, IT WILL NOT START. THIS TIME NOTHING HAPPENS...NO CLICKING SOUND OR ANY ATTEMPTS OF THE ENGINE WANTING TO START....NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIKE BEFORE. IT WAS 2 HOURS LATER BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET JUST LIGHTS TO COME ON THE DASH, THEN ANOTHER 30 MINUTES WENT BY BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET MY TRUCK TO START. THIS IS DAY 3 OF DEALING WITH IT AND I DROVE IT TO WORK AND BACK HOME WITH NO PROBLEMS. I CALLED MECHANIC WHO SAID SOUNDS LIKE A GROUNDING PROBLEM. I SAID SOUNDS LIKE COMPUTER SYSTEM.

I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR AND STILL THE PROBLEM EXISTS. THIS HAS HAPPEN TWICE BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. THE STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TRUCK RAN REALLY ROUGH. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE NUMBER 8 CYLINDER HAD OIL LEAKING INTO IT WHICH I SEE NO SIGNS OF BLUE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE TAILPIPE AND HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT FOR 5 MONTHS NOW WITH NO PROBLEMS EXCEPT WHAT IS GOING ON NOW WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS YEAR TRUCK AND IT SEEMS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD MANUFACTURE PROBLEM. SINCE AUGUST I HAVE NOTICED APPROXIMATELY 5-6 INCIDENCES WHEN THERE WAS A BRIEF FAILURE IN THE IGNITION OF THE TRUCK CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO TURN THE IGNITION KEY A SECOND TIME. IT HAS STARTED CORRECTLY ON THE 2ND TRY, SO FAR. HOWEVER, EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, I'VE NOTICED THAT THE CLOCK WENT BACK TO DEFAULT. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME NOR DOES THERE APPEAR TO BE A PATTERN FOR WHEN IT HAPPENS SUCH AS DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE, A LONG DISTANCE OR THE FIRST START UP OF THE DAY, ETC. WHILE DRIVING WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE TRACTION STABILITY LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH BRAKE LIGHT. THE DOOR LOCKS ACTIVATED AND ALL DASH BACKLIGHTING WENT OUT. AFTER SHUTTING OFF ENGINE, ALL ELECTRICAL POWER SHUT OFF TO INCLUDE THE CLOCK ON THE RADIO. I CHECKED BATTERY CONNECTIONS AND AFTER WIGGLING THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE, THE POWER CAME ON. THE CLOCK WAS SET TO 12:00, AND THE A/C WAS RESET TO 74. THIS WAS THE FIRST INCIDENT. AFTER SEVERAL INCIDENTS, MY TRUCK ACTUALLY STALLED IN AN INTERSECTION AND I HAD TO STOP IN THE ROAD TO ADJUST THE BATTERY CABLE. I HAVE HAD APPROXIMATELY 20 INCIDENTS OF SIMILAR NATURE, EACH TIME WITH INCREASING SYMPTOMS. AT ONE POINT, THE WARNING LIGHT FOR THE A/C OVERHEATING CAME ON. ALSO, THE BATTERY AND CABLES BECOME EXTREMELY HOT, AND STAY HOT AFTER ENGINE SHUTDOWN FOR SEVERAL HOURS UNTIL THE CABLE IS READJUSTED. I HAVE READ SEVERAL FORUMS LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION, AND HAVE CONCLUDED THE MOST LIKELY SOURCE IS A FAILING POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE. IN THE FORUMS, IT SEEMS THAT THE CABLE WAS REDESIGNED IN 2007, AND HAS AFFECTED ALL VEHICLES THROUGH 2013. PRELUDE TO THIS EVENT, INVOLVING MY 2008 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 (APPROX 16,200 MILES), WAS THE WARRANTY REPLACEMENT FOR THE FAILURE OF ALL 4 POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS. THE ACTUATORS FAILED ONE AT A TIME AND EACH TIME AN ACTUATOR WOULD FAIL, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHOCK THE DRIVER WHEN TOUCHING THE METAL DOOR WHILE EXITING THE VEHICLE. THE LAST ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP ON SEPTEMBER 18TH, 2009. ON SEPTEMBER 19TH, 2009, AFTER ENGAGING MY VEHICLE INTO REVERSE GEAR, THE DASHBOARD ELECTRICAL WENT DEAD. GAUGES WENT DARK AND RADIO BEGAN TO BLINK. WITHIN 5-10 SECONDS, SMELL OF BURNING ELECTRICAL CAME INTO THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE. I POPPED THE HOOD AND MY PASSENGER IMMEDIATELY IDENTIFIED A FIRE NEAR THE TRANSMISSION ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BEFORE ENGULFING THE VEHICLE. AFTER INSPECTION, WE FOUND A SHORTED OUT WIRE NEAR THE STARTER AND A BROKEN TRANSMISSION COOLING LINE. THE CAUSE OF BOTH ANOMALIES IS UNKNOWN AT THIS POINT. VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM. THIS OCCURRED UNDER "NORMAL" CONDITIONS ON AN IMPROVED DRIVING SURFACE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHENEVER THE IGNITION WAS STARTED, A SULFURIC EGG ODOR EXPELLED THROUGHOUT THE AIR VENTS. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER EXPERIENCED NAUSEA AND VOMITING DUE TO BEING EXPOSED TO THE ODOR. THEY ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BEING TESTED FOR THE SYMPTOMS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER ON FIFTEEN SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURE, BUT THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO OTHER ALTERNATIVES TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN SUGGESTED THAT THE HIGH OX-FUEL MAY HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT SMELLED A STRONG BURNING ODOR. HE THEN NOTICED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS SMOKING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND OBSERVED SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT END, FOLLOWED BY FLAMES UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. MY FATHER WAS DRIVING A STOCK DUAL CAB CHEVY 2008 SILVERADO, NOT SURE WHAT THE STOCK TIRES FOR THIS TRUCK IS. WAS BOUGHT IN LUCEDALE, MS AT WALT MASSEY CHEVROLET. HE WAS FORCED OFF THE NORTH SIDE OF ROAD TRAVELING WEST AT APPROX. 60 MPH AND WHEN REENTERING PAVEMENT OR DURING YAWING (STILL UNCERTAIN, BUT PICTURES WERE TAKEN BY INVESTIGATORS), THE RIGHT TIRE DETACHED FROM THE AXLE WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO GO OFF OTHER SIDE OF ROAD AND HIT A LARGE OAK. THE ONSTAR SERVICES, WHICH WERE FUNCTIONING, DID NOT NOTIFY EMS OR FAMILY. THE TRUCK WAS STILL RUNNING WHEN WITNESSES WENT TO ASSIST HIM. THE VEHICLE STARTED SMOKING INSIDE THE TRUCK, WHICH MADE WITNESSES LEAVE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE BLEW UP AND NOTHING WAS LEFT TO IDENTIFY HIM OR THE VEHICLE TO NOTIFY FAMILY OF HIS WHEREABOUTS. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ATTACHED TRAILER CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWAY ACROSS THE HIGHWAY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION WITH THE ELECTRIC BRAKE SYSTEM, WHICH CONNECTS TO THE TRAILER'S COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM. THERE WAS NO POWER IN THE ELECTRIC BRAKE SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIR; HOWEVER, THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED SEVERAL TIMES FOR AN IDENTICAL FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
