The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that shortly after purchasing the vehicle, the contact discovered that the driver’s side of the vehicle was lowered and was leaning to the side. Upon inspection it was discovered that the driver's side leaf spring hanger had detached from the frame of the vehicle due to extreme rust. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 287,000.

The sub frame was welded, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact researched and learned that it was a known failure. The dealer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the issue was a known failure. The dealer confirmed that the vehicle was not under recall. Took truck in for fuel pump module upon dropping the fuel tank the mechanic discovered the frame was rusted thriugh and cracked! After investigating online i see this is a very common problem and they should be held accountable. Rest of truck looks pretty good for the year i purchased with 55000 miles on it and had it oil sprayed every year

Vehicle is in the shop at 191,000mi for Rear Shocks, Front Struts, an alignment and oil change as of Wednesday (07/19/2023), at approximately 16:14 EDT, the shop contacted me and notified me that the mechanic, when he was installing the new driver-side shocks, went to secure the shock, only for the entire sub-frame assembly that holds the exhaust manifold, fuel tank and shock in place, "shattered" in front of him. I have been informed that I was "One good pothole away" from having a catastrophic failure which could have caused a wreck, and potentially loss of life.

Severe frame rust, body rust

Extensive rust on the frame, barely holding together. This caused the drive shaft to shake and break the differential. Even if the differential would not have broken the truck was not road worthy. It could have broke in half at any second. No reputable body shop would even attempt to fix it. No warnings or symptoms until a snow plow was hooked up again last winter and the weight of it bent the fragile frame. Countless accounts of frame and undercarriage rust for Chevy and GMC trucks from 2006-2013.

The frame has been rusting out bad for many years. My gas tank is about to fall off it is hanging down do to cross member rusting out, and shocks too. Also body is rusting bad do to not putting the right rust inhibitors in the paint and frame.

There is rust on my crossmembers, they said it happens from the stuff they put on the roads? I don't know but I do not have money to buy a new vehicle. They say it's on both sides in the rear that are rotten but they were fine not too long ago.

My rear suspension cross member on my frame is so rusted and rotted that it snapped and I have a crack in the main frame from more rust right by the gas tank.

Structural frame damage found on both sides of truck while I was checking my brakes and doing a basic undercarriage inspection. Complete rebuild of frame determined by qualified frame building shop. Chunks of frame have fallen out and a lengthy crack along bottom inside rail visible.

Premature frame rust. This vehicle was professionally undercoated 4 times using premium products (fluid film, NH OIL undercoating), and the frame has rotted prematurely. 132,000 miles and it will not pass inspection . Chevrolet should make this right, as I have not finished paying off the vehicle. There needs to be an investigation into the manufacturing and the lack of rust protection. The rust is concentrated in 2 spots on the bottom of the frame. I was made aware of the problem this spring by my technician. I am shocked and will be financially unable to recover from their planned obsolescence. Otherwise every aspect of the truck works as it should.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER ANY REPAIRS IF THE DASHBOARD CRACKED WHILE RECEIVING THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. AS I WAS RUNNING BACK TO REMOVE AS MUCH AS I COULD OUT OF THE TRUCK HER HUSBAND CAME OUT WITH THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND SHE CAME WITH THE HOSE. FRAME ALSO BEGINING TO SHOW DEEP PITTING IN AREAS THAT YOU CAN PUSH A SCREW DRIVER RIGHT THROUGH RUSTED AREA. METAL USED FOR STRUCTURAL AND BODY COMPONENTS OF THIS VEHICLE TOTALLY JUNK!! ALSO 2 YEARS AGO I KEPT SMELLING GASOLINE WHEN EXITING VEHICLE AFTER DRIVING, LONG STORY SHORT, HAD TO REMOVE TRUCK BED AND ON TOP OF FUEL TANK COMING OUT ARE METAL TUBES , WHICH ARE PART OF FUEL PUMP INSIDE TANK, TO WHICH THE FUEL LINES ARE CONNECTED TO, WELL ONE OF THE METAL TUBES WAS TOTALLY RUSTED OFF, WHICH WAS THE FUEL RETURN LINE? I AM COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY TRUCK FRAME. IT IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH IN A FEW SPOTS AND I DON'T KNOW HOW SAFE IT IS TO KEEP DRIVING. THIS IS A COMBINATION OF POOR ENGINEERING/ CHEAP STEEL FROM GM'S SIDE AND THE HIGHLY CORROSIVE CHEMICALS THAT ARE PUT ON THE ROADS IN NEW ENGLAND FROM THE DOT. GM HAS CLEARLY STATED THAT THEY WILL NOT HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM AND I AM ON MY OWN TO COVER THE COST OF A NEW FRAME OR A NEW VEHICLE.

MY DASH HAS CRACKS IN MANY PLACES THAT STARTED WITHIN 6 MONTHS AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. IT CONTINUES TO GET WORSE. HOWEVER WHAT CONCERNS ME THE MOST IS THEY'RE THREE LOCATED AROUND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. HOW IS THIS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE? IF MY AIRBAG INFLATES THE DASH COULD PUNCTURE THE AIRBAG OR PIECES CAN BE THROWN TOWARD THE PASSENGER OR EVEN THE DRIVER. IF YOU SEARCH GM CRACKED DASH YOU WILL FIND ENDLESS ARTICLES AND VIDEOS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE IS DRIVEN BY MY TEENAGE SON WHO I WOULD DEFINITELY WANT THE AIRBAGS TO WORK PROPERLY AND NOT GET PUNCTURED WHEN INFLATED DURING A CRASH. ALSO AS STATED BY MANY OTHERS WE DON'T HAVE A $1000 + TO SPEND ON A DASH THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER CRACKED IN THE FIRST PLACE.

DASHBOARD HAS DEVELOPED CRACKS IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS. ONE IS LOCATED BY THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. ANOTHER IS LOCATED NEAR THE DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE ONE NEAR THE AIRBAG IS PARTICULARLY WORRISOME. IN THE EVENT THAT THE AIRBAG WAS TO DEPLOY, JAGGED PIECES OF PLASTIC COULD PUNCTURE THE AIRBAG OR BE PROPELLED AT THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENT OR CRASH. THESE CRACKS IN THE DASHBOARD SIMPLY APPEARED OVER TIME AND APPEAR TO BE VERY COMMON AMONG CHEVY TRUCKS IN THE MODEL YEARS OF 2007-2013. I CHECKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF INTERNET POSTS/FORUMS DISCUSSING THIS PROBLEM. GM SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR FIXING THIS DEFECT.

ON OUR 2008 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 LT 4X4 Z71, THE DASHBOARD HAS CRACKED SO BADLY WHERE THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS, THAT IF THE AIRBAG WERE TO DEPLOY, PLASTIC SHRAPNEL IS GOING TO GO FLYING, WHICH COULD INJURE OR POSSIBLY KILL SOMEONE. ON THE FLIPSIDE; THE AIRBAG MAY NOT EVEN DEPLOY DUE TO THE DAMAGED DASHBOARD. IN EITHER CASE, THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT GM REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE, DESPITE NOW THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS TAHOES, SUBURBANS, AND (ALL CHEVY & GMC TRUCKS & SUV'S 2007 AND NEWER) HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. AFTER MULTIPLE CALLS TO CHEVY AND GM, AND THEM BEING EXTREMELY RUDE AND IN DENIAL; THE BEST THEY CAN DO IS TO REPLACE THE DASH FOR A PRICE OF $200-500, WHICH WE CURRENTLY DON'T HAVE, AND SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR, AS GM SHOULD STAND BEHIND THE SAFETY OF THEIR VEHICLES AFTER CHARGING THE PRICES THEY DO. THE RIGHT REAR DOOR ACTUATOR WENT OUT NOT ALLOWING THE DOOR TO LOCK OR UNLOCK, OTHER THAN MANUALLY. NOT ONLY IS THIS A THEFT ISSUE, BUT A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL. KIDS WERE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR WHILE DRIVING WHICH IS AN APPARENT SAFETY PROBLEM AND AFTER READING NUMEROUS OTHER REPORTS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM OCCURRING, IT IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF/RECALLED. LOUD ENOUGH THAT AN ONSTAR OPERATOR COULD HEAR IT & IT COULD BE RECORDED ON THE DEALER"S GENERAL MANAGERS VOICE MAIL. MAKES CONVERSATION DIFFICULT. DEALER DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE AS TO WHAT TO DO TO FIND & CORRECT IT. A SECOND DESIGN BLUNDER WAS REPLACING THE CHARCOAL GRAY INTERIOR IN PREVIOUS YEARS WITH THE EBONY INTERIOR. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP CLEAN & ATTRACTS LINT & DIRT LIKE A MAGNET. THE GRAY INTERIOR WAS THE PERFECT COLOR COMBINATION WITH THE TWEED PATTERN SEAT INSERTS. A THIRD BLUNDER IS THE RAISING THE TRUCK BODY 3 INCHES HIGHER OFF THE GROUND PLUS ADDING 2 INCHES TO THE DEPTH OF THE BED MAKING THE BED RAIL 5 INCHES HIGHER OFF THE GROUND. THE COMBINATION MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO ACCESS OBJECTS IN THE BED FROM THE SIDES OF THE TRUCK. TO MAKE THE TRUCK USABLE FOR MY WORK I AM HAVING TO HAVE IT LOWERED 2 INCHES IN FRONT & 3 IN THE REAR. *TR
