Engine has a loud tapping sound and starting to stumble, have a collapse lifter on a 5.3L. Sell it or trade it in only wanna give me $2500 for due to the engine failure. I’ve maintained this vehicle. I work in the automotive industry change the oil every 5000 miles changed all the fluids spark plugs, brakes tires, no tears no rips, immaculate and I have a weight I’ve had it since 2012 or 2013 engine failure is not acceptable well like compensation or have it repaired?
I just bought this truck in June of 2024. This was a bad dealer because he knowingly sold me the truck with severe frame damage and let me drive a dangerous truck off the lot. I cannot deem it as a total loss to have it replaced because it falls under “wear and tear”. I now have to pay for the truck for the next 5 years and don’t have the money to fix it because the quote states it will be around $13,000, which is how much he sold me the truck for. Because it is a 2010 the warranty has expired. I am completely frustrated and disappointed that there is no one to help me with this betrayal. I have read that many others who have bought GMC’s are and have had the same issues and GM refuses to recall the frames. Something needs to be done about this considering it is GM who did not apply any anti-rust or anti-corrosion to the frames on their vehicles.
GM 3.0 diesel engine has a coolant control valve that fails putting the vehicle into a reduced power mode causing the vehicle to have significantly reduced acceleration and putting the engine fan at full to reduce engine heat. When stopped, the engine had been running very hot as you can hear the popping from the metal as it cools off. The part to repair this issue is 40009158 and is being replaced by 40009452. This part is on a nationwide backorder with hundreds on the waiting list just at this time for a repair and no clear picture of when parts will become available. Many other cases have been reported since 2021 for the same issue with the 3.0 GM Duramax engine with engine code/styles LM2 & LZO.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the instrument cluster became inoperable, and the vehicle shuddered and stalled. The vehicle was able to restart after 20-seconds on all occasions. The traction control, stabili-trak, and the check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 176,300.

THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.

ENGINE STARTED TICKING NOISE DURING WINTER 2020 AT ABOUT KM 83000. I CHANGED ENGINE OIL. DURING WINTER NO NOISE AT START UP, ONCE THE OPERATING TEMP REACHES 100 * F. TICKING NOISE STARTS. I TOOK IT TO DEALER, TOLD ME LIFTERS, GAVE ME QUOTE FOR CAMSHAFT & LIFTERS, VERY EXPENSIVE. I HEAR THESE ENGINES ARE KNOWN FOR HYDRAULIC LIFTER PROBLEMS. I JUST PARKED THE TRUCK AS WINTER SNOW & COLD. OUT OF WARRANTY. MY MILEAGE IS LOW. I CONTACTED GMCANADA, THEY REFER ME BACK TO DEALER. THEN ANOTHER DEALER TOLD ME GET AC DELCO ENGINE OIL SUPPLEMENT, GM PRODUCT. I USED THIS, NO IMPROVEMENT, MORE NOISE, GOT WORSE. I PARKED THE TRUCK DURING WINTER. PLEASE LOOK IN TO THIS. TRUCK PURCHASED BY MY FATHER IN 2010 FROM CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. I PURCHASED THE TRUCK FROM HIM IN 2016. THE TRUCK HAS UNDER 120,000 MILES AND DUE TO FAULTY ENGINE AND SENSORS THE VEHICLE HAS SEIZED LEAVING ME WITH THOUSANDS IN REPAIR AND NO VEHICLE. THR VEHICLE BROKE DOWN ON ME WITH MY CHILDREN SEVERAL TIMES LOSING PWOER, SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY. THERE WAS OIL AND THE PRESSURE UNIT DID NOT READ LOW OR SHUT THE TRUCK DOWN.. MY TRUCK ALSO HAS AN AIRBAG RECALL FROM 2016 THAT THERE IS NO REMEDY FOR. I STILL MAKE PAYMENTS ON THIS VEHICLE AND IT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE COSTING THOUSANDS FOR REPAIR. DASH STATS STABIKITRAK NEEDS SERVICE, TRACTION CONTROL NEEDS SERVICE ENGINE STILL IN LIMP MODE. PULL TRUCK ONTO THE SHOULDER OR SOMEONE'S DRIVEWAY TO TURN TRUCK OFF. TRUCK OFF FOR 15 SECONDS TO 1 MINUTES. RESTART THE TRUCK AND DRIVES JUST FINE. TOOK IT TO SHOP. ITEMS THAT HAS BEEN REPLACED AND STILL DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM THROTTLE BODY, THROTTLE BODY SENSOR, MAP SENSOR, MASS SENSOR, ABS MODULE, TRIED TO PUT A NEW ECU ON IT DIDN'T WORK SO PUT OLD ON BACK ON. CHANGED OUT FRONT WHEEL HUBS ASSEMBLY AND STILL DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS I'M MOTION DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ON NORMAL TO WET TO COLD TO WARM. ALL THIS IS HAPPENING IN BOTH CITY, HIGHWAY AND TURNING. ITS CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE TRUCK GOING INTO LIMP MODE AND HAVING TO PULL IT OFF THE SHOULDER OR SOMEONE'S DRIVEWAY.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WILL ALERT "STABILITRACK OFF" AND THEN MOMENTS LATER "ENGINE POWER REDUCED". YOU ARE THEN FORCED TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE FOR AT LEAST 1 MINUTE BEFORE TURNING IT BACK ON. THIS CAN HAPPEN ON ROADS WHERE IT IS DANGEROUS TO PULL OVER PUTTING MYSELF AND OTHERS AT RISK FOR AN ACCIDENT. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED AND NO OTHER AUTO SHOP HAS AN ANSWER FOR ME AS TO WHAT IS CAUSING THE ISSUE. THE COMPUTER HAS BEEN RESET MULTIPLE TIMES AND SOMETIMES THIS WILL HELP THE ISSUE NOT HAPPEN FOR A LONG LENGTH OF TIME BUT THE ISSUE ALWAYS COMES BACK. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF REVIEWS OF OTHER OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE, THE CONCLUSION IS NO ONE HAS THE SAME FIX AND THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME THERE IS NO FIX.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 68 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, SERVICE STABILTRACK AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER WARNING ALL CAME ON AT ONCE CAUSING THE TRUCK TO REDUCE SPEED QUICKLY AND DANGEROUSLY ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED AS THE MY SPEED WENT FROM 68 MPH TO LESS THAN 30 MPH IN AN INSTANT. THANKFULLY THE GENTLEMAN WAS ABLE TO SLOW IN TIME- THROUGH ON HIS HAZARDS AND HELP ESCORT ME TO THE EMERGENCY SHOULDER. MY TRUCK HAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000 MILE ON IT AND THIS PROBLEM HAS NOW HAPPENED 5 TIMES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS MATTER AND THIS IS KNOW ISSUE AND IS ALL OVER THE GM FORUMS WITH MULTIPLE MODELS. EACH FIX REPORTED COMES AFTER CUSTOMERS HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR THE DEALERS TO LOCATE THE ISSUES. GM/CHEVY ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND YET THERE IS NOTHING ABOUT A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE EVEN THOUGH IT IS CAUSED FROM A KNOWN DEFECTIVE PART AND CAUSES A DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION!

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH DOWN A STEEP HILL, TOWING A UTILITY TRAILER, ON SR87 IN THE MOUNTAINS WHEN THE DOOR LOCKS CLICKED AND THE ENGINE TURNED COMPLETELY OFF WITH NO WARNING. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. MY HUSBAND PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AS IT ACCELERATED DOWN A CLIFF AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT WITH NO LUCK. THERE WERE NO CARS IMMEDIATELY AROUND US SO WE WERE ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP ON A STEEP INCLINE. WHEN WE GOT OUT TO CHECK IT, THERE WAS OIL ALL OVER THE WHEEL WELLS AND STILL NO WARNING LIGHTS HAD COME ON. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD US THE TRANSMISSION WAS COMPLETELY BLOWN ON OUR 6 YEAR OLD TRUCK. THERE WAS ZERO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THIS WOULD HAPPEN AS WELL AS TO WHY WE HAD NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF. WE WERE TOLD TO PAY BETTER ATTENTION TO THE TEMP. EVEN THOUGH IT DID NOT OVERHEAT. CHEVY OFFERED NO RELIEF OR HELP. WE WERE QUOTED A PRICE ABOUT $2000 LESS FOR THE INITIAL TRANSMISSION REPAIR THAN IT WOULD HAVE COST SO WE TOOK IT TO A NON-DEALERSHIP SHOP TO REPAIR. THIS WEEKEND, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON OUT OF NOWHERE INDICATING LOSS OF POWER AND THE STABILITRACK WARNING CAME ON EVEN THOUGHT THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED BY A DEALERSHIP ON A TSB ABOUT A YEAR PRIOR TO THE TRANSMISSION GOING OUT. THE CODE IT THREW THIS TIME WAS P0305 AND WE WERE ON VERY LIMITED POWER DRIVING BACK HOME FROM A ROAD TRIP. COULD NOT GO MORE THAN 40 MPH UPHILL. EXTREMELY CONCERNED FOR OUR SAFETY SINCE THE VEHICLE CAN TURN OFF WITH NO WARNING. ALSO, THE MONEY SPENT IS RIDICULOUS.

I WAS OVER LOOKING MY TRUCK CHECKING THE BELTS, HOSES AND FLUIDS. I FOUND A BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT ON THE BACK DRIVER SIDE. I TRIED CALLING THE DEALERSHIP I LEFT A VOICEMAIL BUT NO CALL BACK AS OF YET. I AM FINDING OUT THAT GM WILL NOT RECALL THE COMMON BREAKING PROBLEM WITH THESE BOLTS. THESE BOLTS THAT ARE BREAKING ARE CAUSING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON AND ALSO COULD CAUSE A FIRE. THERE ARE A LOT OF OTHER THINGS I AM FINDING OUT THAT ARE HAPPENING TO VEHICLES/ENGINES DUE TO THESE BOLTS BREAKING. I WAS TOLD TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH YOU TO HELP GET THE PROBLEM FIXED. 5.3L ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. ENGINE CONSUMES 3 TO 4 QTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES AND FOULS #7 SPARK PLUG CAUSING EXTREME LOSS OF POWER. OIL CONSUMPTION IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. DEALER CLAIMS IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN WARRANTY EXTENSION.

BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN APRIL, 2016 AND NOW HAVE A CONSTANT KNOCK FROM ENGINE. I WAS TOLD IT IS PROBABLY THE LIFTERS. I DID RESEARCH TO FIND MANY OTHERS HAVING ISSUES WITH LIFTERS ON VEHICLES THAT HAVE THE AFM/DOD WHICH CONTROLS FUEL AND CYLINDER USE WHEN AT STEADY HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I TRAVEL BY HIGHWAY TO AND FROM WORK. I STILL OWE $17,000 ON THIS TRUCK. IT IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION.

DRIVING 65 ON CRUISE CONTROL WHEN CHECK ENGINE, STABILITY CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON. MESSAGE CENTER SAID REDUCED POWER I GOT TO A SMALL SERVICE GARAGE AND HE TOLD ME I SHOULD SHUT IT OFF WAIT 15 MINUTES AND IT WILL RESET AND IT DID. I DROVE ANOTHER 80 MILES AGAIN THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THE FIRST GARAGE GUY TOLD ME IT WAS A GM ISSUE AND I SHOULD GO SEE THEM THEY SHOULD REPAIR IT. HE SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AND IN THE COLD IT GET SLUGGISH AND GM SHOULD FIX IT BECAUSE THEY HAD PROBLEMS WITH SOME OF THEM. IT HAPPENED AGAIN 20 MILES LATER. I GOT BACK TO THE GM DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT HE CONFIRMED IT WAS THEY THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY BUT DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO REPLACE IT. HE OFFERED TO CLEAN IT (FREE OF CHARGE) AND SENT ME ON MY WAY TELLING ME IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN I SHOULD MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO REPLACE (APPROX. 400-600 DOLLARS). I DONE SOME INVESTIGATING ON THIS MATTER AND FOUND THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE. I STOPPED AT ANOTHER GM DEALER AND EXPLAINED MY PROBLEM HE CONFIRMED THE ORIGINAL THEORY CHECKED THE VIN # AND TOLD ME GM IS FIXING THIS PROBLEM FOR 10 YEARS FROM THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE DATE. EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION CAUSED SPARK PLUGS TO PREMATURELY FAIL CAUSING THE ENGINE TO MISFIRE AND RUN ROUGH. SPARK PLUGS FROM CYLINDERS #1 AND #7 WERE FOUND OIL FOULED AND/OR CRACKED. PER SERVICE BULLETINS ISSUED BY GENERAL MOTORS, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS AND MADE VARIOUS OTHER REPAIRS RELATED TO THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS CAUSED BY THE ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. INITIAL REPAIRS DID NOT CORRECT THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM (1/2 QUART BURNED IN APPROXIMATELY 1,000 - 2,000 MILES) AND OIL WAS VISIBLE ON THE NEW SPARK PLUGS WITHIN 1,000 MILES OF AFM REPAIR WORK. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS "NORMAL" ACCORDING TO GENERAL MOTOR'S STANDARDS. THE DEALERSHIP/GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AGREED TO MAKE ADDITIONAL REPAIRS TO REPLACE THE TRUCKS PISTONS AND RINGS TO SEE IF THAT WOULD CORRECT THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM BUT NO DEFINITE OR LONG-TERM SOLUTION HAS BEEN INDICATED TO CORRECT THE SOURCE OF THE AFM/OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE LAST WEEK. TODAY I WAS SITTING AT A STOPLIGHT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING MY 2010 SILVERADO ACCELERATED AND LUNGED FORWARD ABOUT 3 FEET. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NOT A CAR OR PERSON IN FRONT OF ME OR I SURELY WOULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT THEN THE ENGINE STARTED MISSING. AT THE SAME TIME MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL, SERVICE STABILTRAK, ENGINE POWER REDUCED FLASHED ON MY DASH. I LIMPED HOME AT 10-15 MPH MAX! AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR I STARTED IT AND IT RAN JUST FINE "BOTH TIMES".
