The rust damage to the frame is damaged beyond anything form just regular wear and tear and driver fault. To not be remedied is a real issue. The salt used in the roads and the material used by the car companies isn’t anything myself as a consumer could prepare for.
I just bought this truck in June of 2024. This was a bad dealer because he knowingly sold me the truck with severe frame damage and let me drive a dangerous truck off the lot. I cannot deem it as a total loss to have it replaced because it falls under “wear and tear”. I now have to pay for the truck for the next 5 years and don’t have the money to fix it because the quote states it will be around $13,000, which is how much he sold me the truck for. Because it is a 2010 the warranty has expired. I am completely frustrated and disappointed that there is no one to help me with this betrayal. I have read that many others who have bought GMC’s are and have had the same issues and GM refuses to recall the frames. Something needs to be done about this considering it is GM who did not apply any anti-rust or anti-corrosion to the frames on their vehicles.

Just told by car repair shop; dealer; and frame and body shop that the 2010 Silverado truck we paid $20, 000 for 2-1/2 years ago has a frame that is rotted. All professionals mentioned it is a design flaw GM was aware of. The 2010, however, was not part of their recall. What can we do to seek restitution for this vehicle that now is worth $800 to a scrap yard?
I purchased this truck in 2022 from a Car lot. everything seemed to be ok when we bought it. we have since put less then 7000 miles on it and we took it in for a check up when our mechanic found that the frame is totally rusted out. we contacted the chevy dealership about a frame repair and were told it would need a brand new frame that would cost between $7,000-$10,00 to get it fixed and a 6 month wait time. I have been in the mean time doing my own searching and found among many chevy owners that is particular year of truck all have the similar issue where folks put on less then 7-10k miles and the frame rots away. I feel that if this is in fact a large problem among chevy trucks in the years of 2007 to 2013, then Chevy/GM should issue a recall for these frames.

Rusted frame. Weekend structure. Can cause complete loss, dangerous, should be buy backs or added structure for frame damages. No protective devices,coatings,nothing to prevent rusting on frame that holds motor,transmission and over all vehicle together. This is a death sentence to owners of this truck. It cost me 2700. to have extra metal welded on the early rusted out frame to avoid disaster and accidents. This is something the manufacturer should have fixed since it is clearly a manufacturing defect. This should not have been happening at any stage of owning these trucks.
WHEN OPENING MY DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR TO GET OUT OF MY TRUCK, THE DOOR HANDLE FELL OFF IN MY HAND. I HAD TO PUT DOWN THE WINDOW TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT HE HAS HAD TO REPLACE SEVERAL CHEVY CAST ALUMINUM DOOR HANDLES IN 2020 BECAUSE OF THE SAME ISSUE.

THE DASH HAS CRACKED FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER. AN ACCIDENT COULD SEND DEBRIS INTO THE DRIVERS FACE OR PUNCTURE THE AIRBAG UPON DEPLOYMENT.

WITHIN A YEAR AFTER PURCHASING MY TRUCK I BEGAN NOTICING RUST EVERYWHERE ON THE FRAME AND UNDERBODY. EACH YEAR THE RUST PROGRESSED GETTING MORE SEVERE. YEAR 3 I HAD MY TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE AND A RECALL AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. I SPOKE IN DETAIL WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT HOW BAD THE RUST ON THE UNDERBODY COMPONENTS AND FRAME WHERE AND CHECK FOR ANY RECALLS / BULLETINS. WELL LIKE THE TENS OF THOUSANDS OTHER 07-14 SILVERADO OWNERS I WAS TOLD IT WASN'T COVERED AND TO "SALT AWAY" OR OTHER MEASURES TO KEEP THE TRUCK FREE OF SALT DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. WHAT? YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING I THOUGHT. I EVEN SHOWED THE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS THAT COULD BE FOUND ACROSS THE INTERNET. UNFORTUNATELY HE WAS AWARE OF THE RUST PROBLEM, BUT HIS HANDS WERE TIED, AS GM REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE OR EXCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THEIR STEEL FRAMES AND METAL. UNLESS GM POSTS A RECALL OR BULLETIN REGARDING THE RUST ISSUE THE DEALERSHIPS HANDS ARE TIED. NOW AT YEAR 8 MY TRUCK LOOKS AS NEW AS THE DAY I BOUGHT IT WITH ONLY 68,000 MILES. SO AS LONG AS YOU DON'T LOOK UNDERNEATH! JUST 3 MONTHS AGO I HAD MY TRUCK IN TO HAVE MY BRAKES DONE. THE SAME SERVICE MANAGER WHOM I KNOW PERSONALLY CALLED TO INFORM ME MY TRUCK WAS READY FOR PICK-UP AND ASKED ME IF I ROUTINELY DRIVE MY TRUCK ON THE BEACH DUE TO HOW BAD THE RUST HAD ADVANCED ON THE FRAME AND ENTIRE UNDERBODY!! WHICH OF COURSE I DO NOT! SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS! AS I CANNOT AFFORD A NEW TRUCK AT TODAYS PRICES. NOR SHOULD I HAVE TO AFTER TAKING GREAT "SHOWROOM" CARE OF MY TRUCK. THIS WILL EVENTUALLY LEAD TO FRAMES AND/OR UNDERBODY COMPONENTS FAILING DURING OPERATION, CAUSING SERIOUS BODILY INJURY OR EVEN WORSE, DEATH.

THE DASH IS CRACKED IN 3 PLACES, ONCE OVER THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND TWICE NEAR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. THE SURROUNDING PLASTIC IS VERY BRITTLE. THE INITIAL CRACKS HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH SIMILAR GM DASHES. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. SHOULD THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOY, THE DASH WOULD ESSENTIALLY BECOME SHRAPNEL.

THIS IS THE ONLY SPOT ON THE ENTIRE TRUCK WHERE THIS IS HAPPENING, IT IS PLAIN TO SEE THAT IT IS BEING CAUSED BY A DEFECT IN THE SEAL BETWEEN THE BRAKE LT. & THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. I AM NOT SURE WHEN THIS STARTED TO ERODE, BUT IN FEB. 2017 IS WHEN I TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE IS WHEN I NOTICED HOW BAD THE PAINT WAS BUBBLING AROUND THE BRAKE LT.. FROM THE LOOKS OF THE DAMAGE & FROM WHAT THE BODY SHOP REPAIR PERSON STATED, THIS HAS BEEN ERODING FOR A MONTHS.

I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND ONLY HAVE 50,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK THAT IS IN LIKE NEW CONDITION. THIS IS DEFINITELY AND MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS DESIGN OF DASH AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. IMMEDIATELY. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO CHANGE OUT THE DASH AGAIN THIS WEEK BUT IT IS GOING TO COST ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR SOMETHING I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR. WHAT IS MY NEXT STEP FROM HERE?

THE DASH CRACKED IN MULTIPLE AREAS AFTER ONLY 3 YEARS. THE CRACKS ARE LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH AROUND THE AIRBAG HOUSING. IT STARTED WITH THE FRONT LEFT CORNER OF THE AIRBAG THEN LATER WITH THE RIGHT SIDE. THE CRACKS ARE SIGNIFICANT AND PIECES OF THE DASH ARE PROTRUDING UP. I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE DASH SAYING IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. I STRONGLY DISAGREE. IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYS FRAGMENTS FROM THE DASH COULD BECOME PROJECTILES AND CAUSE SEVERE INJURY.

SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING MY 2010 SILVERADO A SMALL CRACK APPEARED ON THE DASH BY THE CORNER OF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. A MONTH OR SO LATER ANOTHER CRACK DEVELOPED ABOVE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THAT IS NOW (YEARS LATER) A FOOT IN LENGTH. THERE IS A 3RD CRACK DEVELOPING. I HAVE 3 FRIENDS WITH SIMILAR TRUCKS AND THESE CRACKS OCCURRED IN THE IDENTICAL SPOT ON THEIR DASHS. IT HAS TO BE A RISK TO THE AIRBAG, OR IN ANY FRONT IMPACT. THESE CRACKS ARE SHARP AND RIGHT IN THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS FACE. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE I HAVE DISCOVERED IT IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE.
THE DASHBOARD AROUND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG HAS DEVELOPED LARGE CRACKS DUE TO POOR MADE PRODUCTS OR POOR MANUFACTURING PROCESSES. DUE TO THE EXPLOSIVE NATURE OF THE AIRBAGS AS WELL AS THE LOCATION OF THE CRACKS ON THE DASHBOARD, I FEAR THE AIRBAG WILL GO OFF IN A FRONT END COLLISION CAUSING SHARP PLASTIC PIECES FROM THE DASHBOARD TO UNNECESSARILY INJURE ME AND/ OR MY PASSENGERS.

I QUESTIONED HER AS TO THE POSSIBLE DANGERS OF THE DASH FRAGMENTATION, IF THE AIRBAG SHOULD GO OFF? SHE ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETINS FOR MY 2010 CHEV SILVERADO 1500 LT. I THEN CALLED GM CUSTOMER CARE AND SPOKE WITH ANOTHER REP. THEY ASSIGNED ME A CASE # [XXX], THEY ASKED FOR VIN, MILEAGE, DEALER NAME AND WHO I HAD SPOKE WITH AT EDENTON MOTORS (PATTY) ALSO THERE WERE NO RECALLS. I AGAIN VOICED MY CONCERN OVER POSSIBILITY OF DASH FRAGMENTING AND POSSIBLE INJURY. HE IN TURN AT MY REQUEST TRANSFERRED ME TO A SUPERVISOR "[XXX]" EXPLAINED EVERYTHING AGAIN, MY ONLINE FINDINGS OF NUMEROUS DASHES CRACKING AND THE POSSIBILITY OF INJURY SHOULD AIRBAG DEPLOY. HE ADVISED OF A COST ASSIST PROGRAM, HOWEVER I NEEDED TO GET A GM ESTIMATE OF REPAIR, WE LEFT TO VISIT FAMILY THE NEXT DAY AND RETURNED ON 12/30/2015 WHILE AWAY GM CALLED AGAIN ASKING ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND TO CALL THIS ON 1/22/2015 . I CALL GM CUSTOMER CARE AND WAS ADVISED I HAD BEEN ASSIGNED A SR ADVISOR "[XXX]" EXT [XXX]. SHE ADVISED THAT I NEEDED THE ESTIMATE TO CONTINUE. I COVERED MY CONCERNS WITH HER ALSO. ON 1/4/2016 I TOOK TO 2010 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TO EDENTON MOTORS TO THEM TO EXAMINE. THEY WOULD FORWARD THERE FINDINGS TO GM CUSTOMER CARE, ON 1/5/2016 I CALLED [XXX], SHE WOULD LOOK INTO IT. AT 2:30PM 1/5/2016 [XXX] FOR EDENTON MTRS CALLED AND ADVISED THAT COST OF REPAIR WAS AROUND $800.00, MY COST WOULD BE $500.00. I ADVISED HER NO THANK YOU. THIS IS ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES SINCE 2007, RETIRED WITH 35 YEARS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, I HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A REAL SAFETY CONCERN. CRACKS HAVE FORMED ALONG THE DASH BOARD ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WITHOUT ANY SORT OF EVENT HAPPENING THAT WOULD LEAD THE CRACKS FORMING SUCH AS AN ACCIDENT, ETC. THE CRACKS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ARE AROUND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG THAT SEEMS TO BE AN SAFETY ISSUES IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYS. THE CRACKS LEAD TO SHARP EDGES THAT COULD EITHER BREAK OFF AND CAUSE SHARP PLASTIC PIECES TO FLY AT THE PASSENGER IN THE EVENT OF AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT OR THE SHARP EDGES MAY PUNCTURE THE AIRBAG CAUSING IT TO NOT PERFORM AS NEEDED TO PROTECT THE PASSENGER. AFTER TALKING TO THE CHEVROLET BODY SHOP AND READING SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS, THIS ISSUE IS COMMON NOT ONLY IN THE SILVERADO BUT ACCORDING TO THE BODY SHOP MANAGER, IT STRETCHES ACROSS ALL GM PLATFORMS SUCH AS THE ESCALADE.

THE INTERIOR DASH PANEL ON MY SILVERADO 1500, 4X4, CREW CAB HAS CRACKED BEHIND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CAUSING A LOUD RATTLE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. THE DASH PANEL HAS ALSO STARTED TO CRACK AT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG LOCATION AND I FEEL THIS COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF THE AIRBAG WERE TO DEPLOY, CAUSING PLASTIC DASH PARTS TO DISLODGE AND HIT OCCUPANTS.

THE DRIVER'S DOOR FAILED TO OPEN FROM THE INSIDE WHEN ARRIVING AT MY DESTINATION. THE LOCKS APPEARED TO WORK BOTH MANUALLY AND ELECTRICALLY BUT THE INSIDE DOOR LATCH HANDLE WOULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR. I THINK THIS IS A BIT OF A SAFETY ISSUE. VERY DIFFICULT TO CLIMB ACROSS THE CONSOLE TO GET TO THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. IT FINALLY CLEARED ITSELF AFTER A BIT OF TIME, BUT YOU WANT THAT DOOR TO OPEN WHEN YOU NEED IT TO OPEN. A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER I WAS PLAYING WITH IT AGAIN, IT OPENED BUT WOULD NOT LATCH TO CLOSE. I WOULD SUSPECT THE ISSUES ARE RELATED BUT HAVE NOT HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. *TR

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED HE ENTERED THE VEHICLE FROM THE SIDE STEPPING ON THE REAR TIRE AND PLACING HIS HAND ON THE BED RAIL AND CUT HIS FINGER. A REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER.
