I have not had any incidents thank goodness. But I did take it to the shop and they told me as the vacuum pump. It wouldn’t stop my vehicle and I was always nervous about hitting someone or causing an accident. Before then, I had change the breaking pad, taking it to the shop to check on their transmission and none of that was the problem. Please make a recall on this. People could cause or be involving in an accident. It mostly happened when I’m driving in slow between 2-5 miles per hour. It always scare me when backing out of my driveway because the brakes wouldn’t work. I do not have any pictures. I would rather take this to get fixed before causing an accident.

Driving in Tucumcari New Mexico coming up on a green light that turned from green to yellow to red. I pressed the brake pedal instead of the brakes doing their job in slowing down to come to a stop. The pedal pushed against my pressure a did not allow me to stop or slow down in anyway. Upon this brake failure it made me run the red light an t bone another car in the intersection. This brake failure has cost me my only transportation to work, which is in Reno, Nevada. Now GM has never reached out to speak with me about getting the issue resolved before this accident. Dealership never reached out to me or informed me of any recalls prior to the accident or when I made the purchase in 2024. No warning lights no indicators or on my dash to inform of any problems

When at red lights, or in traffic, when you release the brake pedal to inch farther, and re-apply the brakes they go straight to the floor and you have to basically stand up on the brake pedal to finally stop. The truck slides and makes noises as it comes to stop. I was told these trucks in 2014 have a bad issue with the vacuum pump for the brakes.

Recall 19V-645 / N192268490 was performed on my 2014 Chevy Silverado, prior to me purchasing the vehicle a month ago. A computer adjustment was completed in 2019. The vehicle has brake problems, ie: vehicle will ease forward with brakes applied or while stopped. Upon re-applying brakes I have a HARD brake pedal. Dealer stated that recall was completed and I will have to pay to get vehicle fixed. The problem I am experiencing with this vehicle is the same problem that was addressed in the original recall. Computer adjustment did not fix the problem and a new vacuum pump should be installed on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local GM dealer on 15 September 2025. . If problem is not addressed properly, the vehicle brakes would/could cause an accident, at low speeds or move forward while vehicle is stopped. With vehicle in reverse, braking is harder than in forward causing potential accident.

When going at low speeds like through a parking lot when I apply my brakes they get rock hard and do not want to stop. I can get it stopped but just barely. When going at normal driving speed 30mph plus they are fine and stop fine. I almost pulled into a car in a parking lot because I almost couldn't stop due to my brakes failing. The brake vacuum pump on the 2014-2018 chevy silverado has intermittent failures causing reduced brakes, which is a major safety issue. Gm has this listed under a "special coverage warrenty" instead of a recall and wont fix this because the warrenty ended 6/24 or 150k miles(mine onpy has 125k). Luckily I didn't have any traffic infront of me and the street light had just turned red and the cross traffic hadn't started to move yet. When I contacted gm about this I talked to 3 different representatives 2 were the initial points of contact, the first stated I would be reimbursed due to this being a safety issue, the second said the first was talking about a "general warrenty"...? The third was a supposed " supervisor who was obviously reading from a script and chose his words very carefully when telling me that because the speciap coverage warrenty was up GM wasn't going to do anything about this which is a leagal way of saying their are ok with this known issue on their trucks out in the world. Probably because it'll be cheaper to have their lawyers fight a lawsuit than to pay for the parts and labor to have this known safety issue fixed.

The brakes feel squishy and it is difficult to stop at low speeds. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. Safety being put at risk by not being able to stop in time possibly causing crash. The truck was taken to a mechanic who found a code stating low vacuum pressure on brake booster but they could not find a leak anywhere and cleared the code. It is unknown if the component has been inspected by the manufacturer. Yes there has been a warning light before. It is unknown when exactly this problem started.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed down to the floorboard, but the vehicle failed to stop immediately. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle slowed down and came to a stop with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The failure occurred on 4 separate occasions. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired; however, the contact replaced the brake pads. The contact stated that on another occasion, while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power, the steering wheel locked, and lost functionality. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle and the vehicle returned to normal functionality. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that on another occasion while driving 55 MPH, the A/C stopped functioning as intended. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a coolant leak. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

Vacuum pump failure, there is no vacuum going to the brake booster from the vacuum pump mounted on the front of the engine block driven by belt pulley.Has code co299-00 brake booster large vacuum leak detected. Pump is not creating vacuum no vacuum going to booster for power brakes.This is a recall.

I was merging on to the expressway and my truck kept going to the left into traffic towards a concrete median. I turned my wheel to the right to try to avoid it and started to spin out and went back to the right side of the expressway which was four lanes wide and slammed into the guardrail. After the wreck I noticed my ABS light was on I’m not sure if it came on as I was merging onto the expressway.

ON MARCH 15, 2024 My 2014 Chevrolet silverado LT pickup while I was driving the steering suddenly got hard to steer then the engine shut off , I had very little brakes and steering, then it wouldnt start back after I got stopped. thank goodness I didnt hit anyone, after a few minutes it started and I carefully drove home, it was fine until may 09, 2024 I was going to a DR appointment and when I turned in the drive the steering got really hard and the engine almost died and when I turned it off it wouldnt start back all power was dead after I tried it several times it finally started but the stereo and dash lights were not working correct,I contacted GM and they told me that my truck had been recalled for this problem and they reset the computer module but thats all they were going to do. this didnt fix it and I want them to fix my truck because this is a very serious problem and could cause me to wreak and possibly kill someone or myself. please help me with this matter to get GM to fix it.

Purchased the vehicle yesterday, I had it inspected and the service tech informed me the brake booster was not performing correctly. He said instead of going down as a brake the brake is snapped back to where it is not stopping and it can go completely out to where it will not stop. He informed me of a recall on the brake booster. The local GM Dealer checked for the recall and stated the recall had been fulfilled by the previous owner. There's still a problem with the brake booster.

Was driving through the cities, when all of a sudden the brakes in my vehicle were suddenly not working. Being in heavy traffic doing 40mph, I veered off to the side of the road avoiding an accident. I exited the vehicle and inspected underneath for any broken/leaky brake lines. I then checked to see that I still had brake fluid. Everything seemed to be fine. There was no warning or indication with sound that the brakes were out or going bad. After entering the vehicle again the "service brakes" warning popped up on the dash. I called and had the vehicle taken to a shop. The auto shop stated that the vacuum pump was not working and also recommended to replace the brake booster pipe with the pressure switch.

Trailer Brake driver display notification and alert tone frequently activated with no apparent cause with or without a trailer connected. Alert is so repetitive it becomes an audible and visual distraction to the driver. Manufacturer design restricted code readers at Auto Zone or O’Reilly’s from identifying this problem and force owners to take vehicles to GM shops to identify the cause. The alerts and cause should be repaired under recall at no expense to the owner. I also have video to support.

Seat belt anchor broke replaced under warranty but replaced with same defective parts and broke again. Dealer refused to repair without payment of $160.00. Fan belt for air pump brakes you have no brakes to stop truck. A/C condenser defective from factory leaks at seams burns out compressor. GM refuses to recall and dealer charges $1800.00 to repair. I've repaired all these problems on my own except for seat belt anchor

The frame is completely rusted out. Parts are falling off of it, it rusted under the factory wax rust preventive coating. the abs system will brake the truck on its own without any warning lights.

The vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was provided the diagnostic test cost, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V414000 (Steering). The manufacturer was contacted but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

About 2 years after purchased (~2016), I was driving slowly in a parking lot and turned into a parking space. The brake pedal became very hard to press and the truck would not stop. I had to push extremely hard to get it to stop. I backed up and experienced the same problem. I put it in park, then the problem went away. There were no warning lights or indicators of a problem. I got a notice for a recall and took it into the dealer for repair in 2019. From 2019 through 2022, I have had 4 to 5 more incidents of the same problem. It seems to repeat when I slow down to a slow crawl with a trailer for added weight. I push the brakes while crawling and then the brake pedal gets hard to push and I loose brakes. Extremely dangerous, especially with added weight on a slight decline. I have found multiple instances with other customers reporting the same problem. Currently in contact with Chevy to resolve. I have reported the problem twice to the dealer and once to the "Customer Satisfaction" hotline. Chevy has confirmed that a recall was performed on the vehicle in 2019, but they cannot provide any information that the recall work fixed the problem or if they even tested that the fix was performed properly. Furthermore, they only report a "reprogramming" was done. No other work reported by Chevy, though, there are comments from other customers that a vacuum pump recall exists. They have yet to resolve the problem.

The warning "Service the Trailer Brake System" continues to randomly alarm. This was "fixed" multiple times. The fix takes about 5 minutes under the dash and then work for a few months to a year before it alarms again. It was "fixed" once during the warranty but it continues to be a problem. This is similar to the reoccurring problems that were recalled on the 2022 Chevrolet Silverados.

When backing truck up & pressing brake, it feels "spongy" or like the brake is not working right and sometimes vehicle doesn't stop. I had mechanic inspect brakes & they reported no visible issues. They recommended for me to check for a recall relating to this issue.

I had 2 recalls done, one for power steering & one for brakes. My truck was not experiencing ANY problems before I had this recall done. The day I had it done I lost power steering while trying to park at Home Depot immediately after leaving dealership, almost causing me to hit the vehicle I was trying to park next to. Thinking it was a fluke, i drove it home afterwards & when I got on the highway to go home, I experienced a very loud metal on metal sound that only went away after applying the brakes. I don’t drive much since I work from home, however every time I drive it for 10 min or so, the sound came back followed by increased braking pressure to stop, also almost causing multiple accident and any time I was driving slow & trying to make tight maneuvers or turning my wheel too park or go through roundabouts I would lose power steering. I took it back to the dealership & was told the serpentine belt was not installed properly & they replaced the vacuum pump for the brakes. Told that the steering & brakes were fixed and after starting I wasn’t taking it back until it’s verified fixed by test driving for more than just a few minutes & parked multiple times, I was told it was ok. I went straight home & while on the highway, the sound reappeared & didn’t go away & pulling into my driveway, the steering failed again. I left multiple messages that weren’t returned & while recently on the hwy, I was hearing the sound & had play in the wheel, I slammed on the brakes after a semi almost hit me & my truck shook like it was falling apart & I called 800# scared to drive & I had difficulty steering & breaking & with no way to get home I had to drive it & took it to the dealership again & now they’re telling me I have to pay for diagnostics & I refuse to pay Chevy a dime since my truck was fine until Chevy’s incompetent mechanic made my truck unsafe to drive. They deleted my dash cam videos also. I have numerous videos showing everything.

Using a signal for lane changes causes cruise control to disengage, suspension messages and air bag failure messages as well as tire failure icon would all come on and when leaving the exit ramp and decelerating the engine would die and system would lock up without ability to steer. So dangerous. Then next trip all is good but the engine failing while driving has happened a half dozen times. The last incident was another engine failure during an exit from the interstate in November.

For several years now, I have been receiving the notification SERVICE: Trailer Brake. I typically try to dismiss it, but on occasion, it will continue to pop up over and over and over and over again. I have driven this vehicle since it's original purchase and have never even used the trailer brake. (Even though it's been titled twice - I purchased it from the company I work for.) Thankfully it has not caused any accidents. Just an annoyance. But I have been reading online that some owners have been unable to operate their vehicles due to this issue. This is not a daily driver vehicle but today was the most recent episode with the warning. I drove maybe a couple of miles total and it chimed and notified me approximately 20 times in this short distance. I looked on youtube and there are countless owners that have this same problem. It is definitely a distraction to the driver and could potentially cause a very serious accident.

I purchased this vehicle used in July of 2020. Ever since then, I have experienced random issues with a Service-Trailer Brake System warning coming on. It will keep coming and the chime is extremely distracting and cannot be silenced for any significant period of time. After reviewing on the internet, I am also very concernd about pulling a load with a braking system. I may go for hundreds of miles with no warning, then the warning will start coming in repeatedly. I have not at this time attempted any repairs.

The 2014 and up Chevrolet Silverado 1500 models are notorious for electrical issues and bugs, some may have been recalled but other were not included in that recall while still having the same issues, these vehicles have major electrical system issues, from bad battery cables, down to every Control Module associated with the truck, over time salt, sand, mud, moisture disrupts certain key areas of the electrical wiring harness underneath the vehicle, General Motors knows about this but fails to recall these vehicles, it creates a very serious matter when you have no traction control, or any ABS function, along with loss of power steering assist. These control systems can be life and death when they are not working!. GM needs to address these issues and recall ALL 2014+ Silverado’s and alike for these electrical issues relating to “loss of communication with the ECM, BCM, TCM, EBCM, TCCM, PSCM, etc. these are costly break downs and these modules are very expensive to just throw in and hope it fixes the issue, most dealers don’t want to trace wiring issues and will just tell the customer cannot replicate which leaves us vulnerable. Some customers state their vehicles will randomly shut off while driving, others report their truck going into “Limp home mode”. Nobody can seem to centralize a specific area where the problems are occurring but believe it has something to do with the material and the way the harness was made.

While driving down the road a service alert comes up on the dash advising "Service Trailer Brake system". This alert is extremely distracting and will not go away while hitting the "dismiss" button. To my knowledge the trailer brake system on this vehicle has never been used. GM shoukd take full responsibility of this problem and issue a recall. Failure to do so could result in future vehicle accidents from people being distracted from this obnoxious alarm from a faulty part. I would supply a picture or video of the alarm but using my camera while driving would only add to the already present danders associated with this issue. Thanks for your time.

Brake vacuum pump is failing creating an unsafe condition while braking when the vehicle is in a low RPM range. I had a close call while backing down a sloping driveway at my home in which it was almost impossible to stop the vehicle. The pedal provided a lot of resistance but the vehicles braking power was greatly reduced. Ultimately I had to use all my strength on the pedal for the vehicle to stop. After continual issues, I am in the process of getting the vehicle repaired. Thank goodness this didn’t occur while backing a boat into the water. I have not been able to use a boat for fear of ending up in the lake.

Brakes seem to sputter/skip when applying when traveling above 40 mph. I had an inspection done with Brake Masters. They inspected brake pads, rotors and performed a road test. They stated Brakes pads and rotors were still good about another year left. They did say brakes sputtered at about 40 mph and over. They thought it could be issue with brake vacuum system Thanks

I believe my 2014 silverado has a recall for the vacuum brake pump. I just purchased the truck a month ago And I noticed when I take off in drive or reverse and hit the brake pedal it doesn’t want to move and becomes stiff. It has almost caused me to have 2 accidents now. After doing research and looking things up I have come to know there as a recall on these trucks for the vacuum brake pump and I don’t think this truck has ever been fixed for it. I would like to get this fixed before it causes an accident.

Truck has rough breaking at low speeds. It’s due to the break pump recall on this make, year and model. The break pump also makes a clicking sound when engine is running. Common in these trucks.

My vehicle lost the ability to apply brakes or slow down, the vehicle had a rock hard peddle at low speed. There was no illuminated light on the dashboard no warning! I barely avoided a collision and scraped my truck driving off the road to try and stop it. The issue is worst at lower RPM!

Multiple GM vehicles have an error with the traction control system that they cannot diagnose and continuously dismiss to cover their mistakes. Many makes and models report warnings to Service Stabilitrak and Service Breaks along with numerous other warnings. After the warning, drivers are experiencing power failure, locking steering wheels, wrecks, exponential costs for investigations, and temporary fixes. GM will not release any information on investigations into this matter. GM Technicians can not adequately diagnose the issue and will say there is a grounding problem, Traction Control module needs to be reset, replace the battery, and many other bogus repairs to temporarily fix the problem. How many people will have to experience these mechanical errors that can cause serious wrecks or fatalities before NHTSA or GM will investigate? All GM owners should be absolutely disappointed and disgusted with the response from the safety measures put in place to "protect us."

Towing 16ft stock trailer with 2 calves- Turning Left onto another 2 lane road which was downhill, Engine shut off during turn, power steering went out, had truck brakes pressed to floor, trailer brakes didn't react. Took everything I had to turn the steering wheel to keep from going off embankment on both sides of road. Finally got stopped when road flattened out. Thank goodness no oncoming vehicle!!! At low speed the power brakes no longer work. The brake pedal has to be pushed to the floor in order to stop. The pedal does not return to its original position and remains soft/spongy and pushed in. Almost caused an accident when this was first discovered.

BRING IT TO CHEVORLET OF FOLSOM, CA AND THEY DID REPROGRAMMING WITHOUT THE PART REPLACEMENT AND TOLD THAT TRUCK IS RUNNING FINE. BUT THE ISSUE STILL PERSISTS. NOW BRING IT TO THEM AND THEY SAID WE DONT DEAL WITH SALVAGE TITLES. AND JUST FOR MY SAKE CHECKED AGAIN FOR RECALL ON NHTSA WEBSITE AND IT SHOWS NONE OR MIGHT BE THEY REPORTED IT FIXED. I PULLED INTO A DRIVE THRU TRAVELING STRAIGHT AHEAD. WHEN I TRIED TO BRAKE I HEARD AN ODD CLICKING NOISE AND HAD A VERY HARD BRAKE PEDAL. THE NOISE I FOUND OUT LATER WAS THE ABS SYSTEM DOING IT'S JOB BECAUSE OF MY HARD BRAKING. I DID GET THE VEHICLE STOPPED BEFORE HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THE HARD BRAKE CONTINUED AS I MOVED THROUGH THE DRIVE THRU LINE. ONCE I PULLED OUT ON TO THE ROAD THE AND TRIED THE BRAKES AGAIN THEY APPEARED TO WORK PROPERLY. I PULLED INTO AN OPEN LOT AND TRIED THE BRAKES MULTIPLE TIMES AT LOW SPEED AND THE HARD BRAKE CONDITION CONTINUED. MY VEHICLE JUST TURNED OVER 70,000 MILES AND HAD THE RECALL N192268490 TO RECALIBRATE THE BRAKE CONTROL MODULE FOR HARD BRAKING ON 3/4/2020. IT'S APPARENT THAT THE FIX GM IS DOING FOR THE HARD BRAKE PEDAL AND STOPPING IS NOT RESOLVING THE ISSUE. MY VEHICLE WAS SERVICED ON APRIL 14, 2020 FOR AN OIL CHANGE, TIRE ROTATION, ETC. AND THE WORK WAS ALSO PERFORMED FOR RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V645000. I HAD NO ISSUES WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM PRIOR TO THIS DATE - NO INCREASED PRESSURE, NO WARNING LIGHTS, NOTHING. AFTER THIS DATE I NOTICED MY BRAKES SKIPPING WHILE IN REVERSE ON AN INCLINE. I LIVE AT THE TOP OF A HILL AND MY DRIVEWAY IS ALSO A HILL, SO I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT. HOWEVER, I WAS REVERSING OUT OF A SLIGHTLY INCLINED PARKING SPOT AT A LOCAL RESTAURANT AND PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE TRUCK WAS STILL NOT STOPPING. I MANAGED TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND GET THE CAR INTO DRIVE TO AVOID HITTING A CAR BEHIND ME IN THE PARKING LOT. LATER THAT SAME DAY I WHEN REVERSING OUT OF ANOTHER SLIGHTLY INCLINED PARKING SPOT HAD TO FULLY USE MY EMERGENCY BRAKE TO BRAKE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE I COULD NOT PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL AT ALL DUE TO SO MUCH PRESSURE. I TOOK MY TRUCK IMMEDIATELY TO THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT GET TO IT THAT DAY, BUT THAT I COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND BRING IT BACK FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. THE VACUUM PUMP HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE, PRODUCING NO VACUUM PRESSURE TO THE BREAK ASSIST. THE RECALL SUGGESTING THE RECALIBRATION OF THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL HAD BEEN COMPLETED MONTHS PRIOR. THIS RESULTED IN SIMILAR SYMPTOMS, VIBRATION IN THE BREAK AND A HARD BRAKE PEDAL. ONCE IT COMPLETELY FAILED, THE PEDAL BECAME EXTREMELY STIFF AND STOPPING WAS VERY DIFFICULT. THE ODD THING IS ONCE I STOPPED AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMED TO BUILD PRESSURE AGAIN AND WAS FINE? AFTER A LITTLE INVESTIGATION WITH THE VEHICLE I CAN RECREATE THE ISSUE IF I PUMP THE BRAKES 4 TO 5 TIMES IN QUICK SUCCESION WHICH RESULTS AGAIN IN A ROCK HARD PEDAL AND LOSS OF BRAKING. ONCE I REV THE ENGINE IN NEUTRAL I RESTORE PRESSURE BACK TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HAVE NO ISSUES. I AM ALMOST POSITIVE THIS IS A BRAKE VACUUM ISSUE AND WILL BE TAKING TO A MECHANIC ASAP TO LOOK INTO IT.

THE VACUUM PUMP THAT SUPPLIES VACUUM TO THE POWER BRAKES HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE CAUSING NO POWER ASSIST TO THE BAKE SYSTEM. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THIS PART MUST NEED REPAIR OFTEN BECAUSE THEY HAD THEM IN STOCK. AFTER THE REPAIR AND $683.36 LATER WE WERE BACK ON OUR WAY.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT I STARTED TO PUSH MY BRAKE PEDAL AND I NOTICED IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD. I GOT BACK IN THE TRUCK AND STARTED IT UP AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. A FEW MINUTES LATER MY ABS LIGHT AND STABLE TRAC LIGHT CAME ON. WE GOT THE TRUCK TO MY BUDDY SHOP AND HE WHEN ONLINE TRYING TO FIND A REPLACEMENT VACUUM PUMP AND SEEN ALL THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE VACUUM PUMP. I CALLED CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND ASK THEM WHAT WE COULD DO. THEY TOLD ME TO BRING THE TRUCK IN AND I COULD PAY FULL PRICE TO HAVE EVERYTHING FIXED AND THEY WOULD GIVE ME A RIDE TO PICK UP A RENTAL CAR THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2014 SILVERADO 1500 TRUCK AT SLOW SPEEDS (UNDER 20 MPH), IN THREE DIFFERENT PARKING LOTS WITH PEDESTRIANS PRESENT, THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND TO ANY LEVEL OF FOOT PRESSURE. THESE FAILURES HAPPENED OVER A 30-MINUTE SPAN. THE TRUCK KEPT MOVING FORWARD EVEN THOUGH I WAS PULLING ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO HELP WITH DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH AS MUCH FORCE AS I COULD. I HAD TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL TO HELP STOP THE VEHICLE. UPON REVIEWING INTERNET BLOGS OF THIS ISSUE I FOUND OTHERS HERE ON NHTSA WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND ALSO FOUND GM/CHEVY HAD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS PUBLISHED FOR THIS ISSUE: PIT5361D & PIT5362B. WHAT FAILED WAS THE POWER BRAKE VACUUM PUMP/BOOSTER WHICH PROVIDES THE VACUUM FOR THE BRAKES TO FUNCTION. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY CHEVY DEALER FOR REPAIR. THIS BRAKE VACUUM PUMP/BOOSTER REPAIR COST ME $1,100.00 AS THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY NOR WAS A RECALL AT THIS POINT. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT WITH SO MANY OTHERS AFFECTED, MYSELF INCLUDED, WITH THIS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT IT IS NOT YET A FULL RECALL ITEM. FACT IS, YOU CANNOT DRIVE A VEHICLE WITHOUT WORKING BRAKES, PERIOD. IT IS NOT A SITUATION SUCH AS BRAKE PADS BEING WORN (THEY ARE NOT), IT IS THE CORE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE POWER BRAKE SYSTEM THAT FAILED AND SHOULD BE UNDER A MAJOR RECALL. HERE ARE THE PARTS THAT WERE REPAIRED/REPLACED: BRAKE VACUUM PUMP, VACUUM PUMP BELT, A/C BELT, AND PIPE FROM PUMP TO THE BOOSTER. AFTER EACH INCIDENT AND PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE THE SAME HARD PEDAL PREVENTED THE BRAKES FROM WORKING CORRECTLY GOING FORWARD. AFTER STOPPING, TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND RE STARTING THE VEHICLE THE BRAKES WORKED FINE. I FOUND A BULLETIN ONLINE THAT GENERAL MOTORS PUT OUT WHERE A MECHANIC INSPECTION SHOULD BE PERFORMED TO CHECK IF ANY OIL WAS IN THE BRAKE VACUUM LINE LEADING INTO THE BRAKE POWER BOOSTER WITH THE OIL STEMMING FROM THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP. UPON INSPECTION THERE WAS NO OIL FOUND AND MY MECHANIC PERFORMED AN OVERNIGHT PRESSURE TEST ON THE VACUUM PUMP ITSELF AND THE FOLLOWING DAY FOUND THERE WAS NO VACUUM LEAK DETECTED. THIS TEST WAS PERFORMED ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AFTER MY SECOND INCIDENT. MY 3RD INCIDENT HAPPENED THIS PAST FRIDAY 12/21/2018. MY TRUCK DID NOT STOP THE WAY IT SHOULD HAVE BACKING INTO A PARKING SPOT AND I WOUND UP HAVING MY TRUCK DRIVE INTO A CHAIN LINK FENCE AS MY BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN GOT REALLY HARD AND MY BRAKES FAILED. I AM VERY CONCERNED NOW THAT THERE IS A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW THAT DEVELOPED FROM A CASE OF POOR QUALITY MATERIALS USED IN THE MAKING OF THE PARTS OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. MY TRUCK IS RARELY USED IN A ROUGH OR CARELESS MANNER, RARELY PERFORMS TOWING AND HAS 88,000 MILES ON IT. A RECALL IS WAY OVERDUE REGARDING THE BRAKING SITUATION.

THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING SLOWLY IN TRAFFIC RAMAPO VALLEY ROAD (AKA RT 202) IN OAKLAND NJ WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT MOVE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP, I TRIED TWICE BEFORE STEPPING ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. AT THE SAME TIME I STEPPED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME CAUSING NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE BUT MY VEHICLE HAS A DENT IN THE FRONT BUMPER FROM THE TOW HITCH ON THE CAR I HIT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED AT THE SCENE. THE POLICE OFFICER ARRIVED AND MOVED MY TRUCK CONFIRMING THERE WAS A BRAKE FAILURE. THE POLICE OFFICER MOVED MY TRUCK TO A DRIVEWAY ACROSS THE ROAD AND A MESSAGE REGARDING A BRAKE ASSIST FAILURE DISPLAYED ON THE DASH. NO INDICATION WAS DISPLAYED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE POLICE OFFICER DECLARED THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND HAD IT TOWED AND IMPOUNDED. AFTER GETTING A VEHICLE RELEASE MY TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP IN LITTLE FALLS NJ WHERE THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR CONFIRMED THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP FAILED. I WAS CONTACTED BY GM AND GAVE THEM INFORMATION REGARDING THE ACCIDENT. THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR INFORMED ME GM INVESTIGATORS WERE GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP TO INSPECT THE FAILURE. I FOUND A GM SERVICE BULLETIN DATED JUNE 2016, BULLETIN NUMBER PIT5361B DESCRIBING THIS FAILURE. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET GM TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGES SINCE THE TRUCK IS LESS THAN 5 YEAR OLD AND HAS LESS THAN 100000 MILE ON IT, IT HAS ABOUT 45000 MILES ON IT. THIS PART IS NOT A PART THAT IS EXPECTED TO WEAR OF INSPECTED DURING NORMAL MAINTENANCE.

THE DEALER SHOWED ME A "BULLETIN" THEY RECEIVED TELLING THEM PROBABLE CAUSES AND PART NUMBERS. I CALLED GM. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE JUST WEREN'T ENOUGH REPORTED PROBLEMS TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL YET. IF YOU GOOGLE THE BRAKE PROBLEM THERE ARE NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF OWNERS EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM. SOME WITH NARROWLY MISSED ACCIDENTS. I HAD NO TYPE OF WARNING THAT THERE MIGHT A PROBLEM. GM SAID "SORRY, CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR YOU. KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS IN CASE A SAFETY RECALL COMES DOWN." I TOLD GM I HOPE IT DOESN'T TAKE A NUMBER OF TRAGIC ACCIDENTS TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL. THEY SAID IN FACT IT WAS THE BRAKE VACUUM BOOSTER PUMP, THAT IT SHOULD BE FIXED OR I COULD EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKING POWER. THEY FURTHER EXPLAINED IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THAT EXPIRED A YEAR AGO AND WOULD NOW COST ME SOME $440. AM WONDERING IF OTHER FOLKS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS. I'VE READ OF IT HAPPENING TO OTHERS ON CERTAIN INTERNET BLOG SITES. TO MY WAY OF THINKING THE BRAKES (AND I SUPPOSE LOSS OF ABS/TRACTION CONTROL) ARE AT LEAST AS IMPORTANT AS THE STEERING THAT WAS ENOUGH OF A PROBLEM TO ISSUE A RECALL. I HAVE A 2014 SILVERADO WITH 60K MILES. ON SUNDAY, I WAS PULLING INTO THE GARAGE AFTER A SHORT ERRAND AND I LOST MOST OF THE BRAKING POWER. THESE HAVE NO MOVING OR MECHANICAL PARTS AND SHOULD PROBABLY NEVER WEAR OUT. PRIOR TO ALL THIS I WAS GETTING A REPORT TO SERVICE ELECTRONIC TRAILER BRAKES BUT HAD NOT HOOKED UP A TRAILER? WHEN FIRST POINTED THIS OUT THEY SAID COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. SECOND TIME THEY REPLACED ELECTRONIC SWITCH AS "BAD". PERSONALLY I FEEL IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ALL THE PARTS REPLACED AND FEEL STRONGLY THAT THIS IS ELECTRONIC AND RELATED TO THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM ELECTRONICS OR MOTHER BOARD. VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE MOVING SLOWLY. DAMAGED REAR BUMPER LAST FAIL DUE TO UNABLE TO STOP VEHICLE. MY TRUCK HAS 43K MILES ON IT. DRIVING IT THE OTHER DAY ON A CITY STREET, I HEARD A SQUEALING SOUND, AND THEN THE BRAKES FAILED. I HAD TO PUSH DOWN REALLY HARD TO AVOID REAR ENDING A CAR IN FRONT OF ME ON MY WAY HOME. WHEN I GOT HOME I COULD SEE THAT THE BELT POWERING THE VACUUM ASSIST PUMP FOR THE BRAKES HAD SNAPPED. SO I WENT TO AUTOZONE AND PURCHASED ANOTHER ONE. PUT IT ONE AND STARTED THE TRUCK. THE SQUEALING WAS QUITE LOUD BECAUSE THE BELT WAS TURNING, BUT NOT THE VACUUM PUMP. SO I REMOVED THE PUMP AND DISCOVERED LARGE AMOUNTS OF METAL SHARDS IN THE OIL, WHICH NOW MEANS I CAN'T DRIVE THE TRUCK WITHOUT RISKING TAKING OUT MY ENGINE. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ON A 3 YEAR OLD VEHICLE.
