I am the original owner of a 2015 chevrolet silverado 1500. The vehicle's brake vacuum pump has failed, resulting in a sudden, significant loss of power braking assist. This requires excessive pedal force to stop the vehicle, creating an immediate safety hazard and increasing the risk of a crash. General Motors previously issued special coverage adjustment N192210240 ( or N182202780 ) to address this specific component failure, extending warranty coverage to 10 years or 150,000 miles. I never received notification of this coverage or the potential safety defect. The dealership has confirmed the vacuum pump failure but denied coverage because the 10- year window has recently expired. I contacted GM Corporate on 12/16/2025 and 12/17/ 2025 they declined GoodWill Assistance. I believe it is unreasonable to deny coverage for a know safety defect on a vehicle owned by the original purchaser who was never properly notified of the extension on N182202780.
I pulled into a parking lot, and into a parking spot. I put the truck in reverse to back up and straighten the truck, when I started to pull back in the brake pedal became hard to press. I had to stand up on the brake pedal to keep from hitting the car parked in front of me. It also happened another time while backing out of a parking spot when someone walked behind the vehicle, and I had to stand on the pedal.

Vacuum pump failed causing an anti-lock brake failure and destroyed all my brake pads and rotors. General motors and the dealership are only covering the vacuum pump, but require me the customer to pay for the brake pads, rotors, and installation fees. GM had the dealership perform 3 days of testing to verify that it was the vacuum pump. I was hauling a camper with my truck when it failed with my 2 young children inside and the truck ground to a halt while shaking violently scaring my children. I had to have the vehicle towed due to how dangerous the issue was.

GMC knows there is a problem with the Vacuum Pump Assembly/Belt Kit and are refusing to recall it. The breaks are harder to press (see attachments) and the alarms are constantly dinging. My truck has less than one hundred and fifty miles and I bought it 12/07/2015, they have a special warrant on these vehicles but will not honor it. This is dangerous not to have the proper breaking power.
-Vacuum pump malfunction. Not available, has already been repaired. Found out after the fact there had been a recall on 2014-2018 vacuum pumps. Mine had not been included in the recall, yet here we are. -While pulling into a parking spot, as I was slowing down/braking the pedal went to the floor, truck accelerated went over a parking barrier, sidewalk and hit a tree. If I had not hit the tree, I would have driven into the side of the building into people doing cardio or if someone had been walking in front of me, I would have hit them. Seeing an orthopedist on June 10 for right hip and knee pain as leg was fully extended on impact. -Quality GMC Collision/Service tested/drove the car and it didn't happen. Service ran diagnostics and it happened then. Highlighted in yellow on repair invoice. -Quality GMC Collision/Service. don't know if an adjuster looked at it or not. Quality did file a claim for it though. - There was no warning, indication, message, problem before this happened. My brakes were were working and then they weren't.
Pulling forward in my driveway and my breaks went stiff
I received the recall notice and then the special warranty notice, fall of 2019. I took my vehicle, which was experiencing the braking issues described in both notices, to Nereson Automotive in Detroit Lakes, MN. I did call ahead & had an appointment and informed them of the letters and the problems both on the phone and in person when dropping the vehicle off for repairs. After they called me and told me they made all the repairs and had the vehicle in good working order again, I picked up my 2015 Chevy Silverado High Country (approximately 107,000 miles) and while still on the lot I experienced the same braking issues. At that point I just figured it was something that I would have to deal with. After almost 5 years of dealing with the intermittent annoyance, I started doing some research on how to fix it myself and came across a mechanics instruction on how the recall and special warranty was supposed to be performed. I called them back and scheduled another appointment pointing out they were supposed to replace the vacuum pump in 2019 and I informed them (Ty) the radio and DIC on my truck would randomly change menus and stations and wanted them to reflash the computer system (which they did not do, and also charged me over $150 for a bogus diagnostic fee afterward). After I dropped my truck off for repair (again) (approximately 158,000 miles) I received a call and they said the special warranty is expired because I was approximately 8,000 miles over the extension. I informed them I had brought them the truck in 2019 to have the issue fixed and they did not fix it under warranty at that point. They said there was nothing they could do to help fix this important SAFETY RECALL. Now, I have complete brake assist failure and a dealer that seems to be ignoring the recalls and cutting corners. I called GM Customer Service and they said I have to work it out with the independently owned dealer. I called back yesterday (XXX) and they still refuse to fix the recall. Low speed brake failure sometimes
Vehicle shuts off when stopping. Everything goes dead. It will eventually start again, but very annoying. What happens when it shuts off going down the highway? No power steering or power brakes, that's what!
The trailer braking system keeps chiming and going on and off ever 1-2 sec. Detracting and over rides all other information on screen. Including speed. Has been happening for months and now consistently.
the brake booster stop working or shortated out and broke the belt now the brakes are hard to push while i was driving
At 10mph to 30mph every other week I will get a sudden brake lock up and release for a split second. There are no codes that get thrown, it is very dangerous... being a disabled veteran, I did check is it says all my recalls have been done but I don't think they were done right.
While in a drive thru moving up slowly to the next spot brakes became hard and had to put a lot of force on the brakes to make vehicle slow down and stop. I thought I was going to hit the car in front of me but luckily stopped within a few inches. Took it in to get serviced and mechanic said brake system checked out to be good. That was 2 years ago. This last week I was backing in a boat in the water and the brakes became hard to push and was not slowing the vehicle down. I had to put on the emergency parking brake in order not to go in the lake with the truck. It was a very scary situation with my small nephews in the back seat. I was able to drive the truck back 10 homes from Canada. This appears to be a requiring issue from complaints on this make and model of truck.
Truck has issues breaking at very low speeds such as drive thrus ect. Zero issues at driving speeds. I see there is a recall for this issue on silverados between 2014 and I believe 2018 that had to do with a vacuum pump or similar issue that caused breaking issues at low speeds. For some reason my truck is not included in this recall but is having the same issues.

BRAKING SYSTEM HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR A LONG TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THERE THE MECHANICS REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND REAR BRAKE PADS. WE CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. WE WERE NOT AWARE OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS TILL RECENTLY SO WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO DEALER. MILEAGE WAS 169201. THE BRAKES WERE FIRST INSPECTED 6-29-22. THE MILEAGE AT THAT TIME WAS WELL BELOW YOUR CUTOFF OF 150,000 MILES OR 10 YEARS. THE DEALERS HANDLING OF THIS DOES SEEM UNREASONABLE. THIS IS MY HUSBANDS VEHICLE I REALLY DONT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED AND WHAT DATES. WHILE BACKING UP HIS TRAILER HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SEVERAL DENTS ON THE SIDE OF IT SHOWS BRAKING PROBLEMS. I THINK 1900.00 IS EXTREME TO REPAIR WHAT YOUR COMPANY IS WELL AWARE OF IS A PROBLEM. YOUR CUSTOMERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED THIS WAS POSSIBLE RATHER THAN LEAVING THEM TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO HAVE IT CHECKED. I HOPE THIS WILL CONVINCE YOUR COMPANY TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT. THAT WILL DETERMINE WHAT VEHICLE WE WILL PURCHASE NEXT.
At slow speeds, such as parking lots and moving in slow traffic, the brakes seem to fail or act like they are giving out.
The TRAILER STABIZER warning keeps coming on.
My 2015 Silverado was purchased new and around October 2023 the trailer brake service warning started popping up. I was concerned with pulling any sort of trailer that my safety would be at risk, and also the constant noise as a distraction. I have taken to dealer for inspection, but nothing was able to be done at the time. No other warnings or symptoms have appeared. Just the trailer brake service continually going off. Thanks.

As I was driving, the brakes got all Smashy the pedal locked and the brakes started grinding. I couldn’t stop the truck anymore. I couldn’t do absolutely anything I had to stop and hit a divider from a parking structure to be able to stop my truck. My truck is a 2015 Chevy Silverado, I do maintenance all the time I almost took out four cars and injured. These people along with myself. This is uncalled for something is wrong with my brakes. I took a video right after and you see on the video how the brake is just stuck it won’t even go in or anything you hear , a marshmallow sound you feel the grinding it’s horrible .
#1- I had my truck in a few years ago for a brake issues that they said was a computer reprogramming issue and vacuum pump. They repaired and the issue slowly came back. Now it feels as if there is little to no assist with braking and stopping distance is growing. I feel like my family is at risk if there were ever to be a time I need to brake hard or fast. Theire are no warning lamps but obvious excessive braking effort and can feel the brake rotors through the pedal. #2- Intermittently, at low speeds, pulling into parking lots and parking spaces while turning the steering wheel, electrical power cuts out, steering wheel jerks out of hand, and a dash light comes on saying "service stabilitrack". This is a huge safety issue that could certainly cause an accident. I have Googled this very common issue with my year Chevy Silverado and personally checked the grounds on the left and right under the front dash panel by each speaker and found them to be clean and tight. This leads me to believe it is something else and electrical and a huge safety problem. Only issue is that it is very random and hard to replicate. Seems to happen on hot days when I've been driving a lot. I just got off the phone with the local dealership and they are saying there are no other recalls aside from the current one for air bag issues which I just scheduled. But these other issues I feel are definitely safety manufacturer defects/issues especially being that it has been in for the brake issue once already and the steering/electrical issue is such a common thing when searching the internet.
The power assist for the brakes intermittently goes out and does not work, typically happens at low speed like when parking. The most recent time this started happening a ‘brake assist’ notification appeared on my dashboard. This is a safety concern. I see a recall for my model and year, but when I inquired was told my VIN was not covered. The existing recall number that I believe should be expanded to cover my VIN is recall number N192268490 and is also listed as NHSTA campaign numbers 19V645 and 20V603. Please look into this and expand the recall to cover my vehicle and others that should be covered for this safety defect.
When backing slowly down a ramp with a boat attached the brakes feel like they are not holding . Feels like I'm going to be in the water with the boat. In drive the brakes work just fine. Only when going down a ramp with the boat it feels like the brake is down as far as it will go and fading or out of pressure. This happened a couple times before this in June and July. Then I replaced the front brakes. First time I backed the boat in after brake change it still happened. I feel the power booster or something else is bad. It's just weird it is only in reverse at slow speeds.
I have had several instances when it has become difficult stopping my vehicle, particularly under low-speed conditions like when approaching a stop light or while in a parking lot. I have had to use both feet and all my force to stop the vehicle and several of these times was while towing which only added to the difficulty and danger of the situation. I have replaced my brake pads, rear calipers and flushed the brake fluid all of which has not helped or resolved the issue. A shuttering in the brake pedal often times accompanies this issue, similar to the ABS system activating. I see there is a recall 19V645000 which from my online research seems to mimic what I am experiencing but when I called Chevrolet directly, I was told to make a report on this website. I was not offered any assistance in the matter.
[XXX]. My 2015 silverado with the 5.3 randomly just shuts off. When slowing down and at 10 to 20 mph, the Instrument panel goes dark, the engine shuts off, no power steering or brakes and almost crashed into someone. I turn the key it starts back up, but have to reset time and date and lose radio channels. Once a message about stabilitrac flashed after starting back up. Truck can be for Inspection. This problem happened 4 times in one morning it is being looked at now on [XXX]. There hasn't been any warnings. It just shuts down. “Service trailer brake system” this message randomly appears with no trailer connected at all, i recently bought a brand new trailer and im scared to tow it since there is no current fix for this error message on the display, it comes on randomly and will not stop popping up and dinging it is a huge distraction as it repeatedly does it over and over, also when it does this you lose trailer brakes which is very unsafe especially in the mountains. This has been a known issue for years that is why i don’t understand why there is only a fix for the 22-23 models. Gm needs to address this issue as there are tons and tons of complaints, it is never safe to lose trailer brakes especially with all that weight you could burn up the truck brakes and cause an accident or if the trailer starts swaying you can not correct it with the breaks

Trailer Brake System, needs service light keeps coming on. Have had this issue with this vehicle since I purchased new in 2015. Have had this issue checked by dealer several times and they always tell me unable to duplicate customers issue on my service invoice. The service light will come on and an audible alert will sound for a few seconds and then go off and come back on. Apparently this is an ongoing issue with GM products, have talked to other Chevrolet owners who have experienced same issue and several GM forums have this issue as a priority topic.
2015 Chevy Silverado LTZ 5.3L. 81.2k miles. After not driving the vehicle for four days while away on a work trip, the very first trip out of the garage, the brakes became extremely difficult to press and stop. Originally, it occurred at low speeds, but it persists at all speeds now.
Low speed braking. No warning lamps or messages. When creeping forward and then applying brake boost is lost. Intermittent so the driver may not be able to anticipate when braking will change.
Randomly the brakes get stiff, even while on a hill or stop and go traffic. I noticed the first time after first buying it that while on an exit driveway at a decline, the brakes felt like they slipped or went away. I had to push them hard all the way down and thought I was going to roll into oncoming traffic. The truck soon after was making a noise and felt like it was losing power and revving after the keg was taken out and loss of gas mileage. The dealership confirmed the brakes vacuum pump and the high pressure fuel pump were both bad and the gas was leaking into the oil causing problems and possibly ruining the engine, they stated both would need to be replaced. Check engine light comes on soon after fresh oil changes everytime and codes were shown on computer for running rich. No codes after the initial oil changes due to the warning lights appearing after a good amount of gas has leaked into the oil.
I recently brought my 2015 Silverado in to the local dealership to fix the “increased brake pedal effort” recall. The dealership reprogrammed the brake control module but the problem still persists. Yesterday 03/07/23 I experienced loss of brake power in interstate traffic while traveling at low speed. This happened several times and it is very concerning. I believe the GM vacuum pump is faulty and I will contact the dealership about replacing it.
I was backing up at low speed after a 25 minute drive and went to stop, pushed brake pedal and it was hard and didn’t slow the vehicle. I stood on the pedal to stop from backing through my garage door and wheels made a dragging sound and stopped. Put it in drive to check the brakes and same thing happed, brakes hard and no stopping power. Put truck in park and shut it off. Started it back up and brakes were fine.
Hard brake petal at low speed when I'm trying to park vehicle, dealership kept truck for five days, service Rep said, he couldn't get to my truck,. I picked up my truck and I took it to another Dealership they claimed that my brakes problem was completed, Matick Chevrolet Jan 6, 2023 . Problem # ,2 High Pressure Fuel pump needs replacing as per Matick Chevrolet inspection on 1/6/2023 their Mechanic inspected my truck , I have their invoice stating that and two more invoices from ,one from Pep Boy's diagnosed bad Fuel pump and another invoice from Good Year Tires diagnosing bad High Pressure Fuel pump is bad with 45 psi. Inability to brake at low speeds. Brake vacuum pump failing at 100K miles. I can submit photos and report later.
While driving at low speeds (approx 5-10 mph) the brake pedal became stiff and very difficult to stop. This issue happened with no prior warning or indication of the issue. As a result of this issue severe damage to personal property housing and vehicles was nearly missed. Upon research this has been a common issue for GM vehicles specifically trucks and SUVs.
I constantly get a trailer assist brake service warning dinging. I have video. I paid for a tech to fix it but it still dings. I fear the brakes will be affected since it says "Service Trailer Brake System." System has not been inspected by Dealer because they told me it could take 6 months to get it in due to high volume of repairs on books and low inventory. This started in 2021 and stopped after I paid a tech to fix it for about 6 months but started repeating the problem again in 2022.
Anytime I pull into the parking lot and I have to pump my brakes more than once the brake pedal stiffens up and the truck does not stop it has almost caused a collision and almost went through the window of a business it is to the point where every single time I drive it does this from what I heard it is the vacuum pump it does not provide enough vacuum for the brake booster so the brakes do not work it cost about $250 for the OEM part and that is not guaranteed to work the problem will persist later on down the road after more mileage put on the truck

The vacuum in the braking system failed and would not stop the vehicle especially after going over 1500 rpm the vehicle would stop, but if you had to brake without being able to go above 1500rpm the brakes failed. You had yo put a lot of pressure on the brake pedal to slow it down and stop. When you have a hill to go down it could be very dangerous. Taking the vehicle on 11/15/22 to Kendall Chev I'm Marysville, WA. No warnings were given on brake problem. Since truck will not stop normally, any person, vehicle, bike, etc is in danger of being in front of truck because of brakes failing.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, he heard an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that he continued driving to his residence. The contact stated while leaving the driveway, he continued to hear the abnormal noise, and the service brake warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the brake vacuum pump to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V578000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

Trailer brake assist warning keeps going off at different times with no trailer attached. Quite annoying and unsafe distraction.
This is a 2015 Chevy Silverado, I continuously get a message reading "Service: Trailer Brake System". This error message would continuously chime every 5 seconds, no matter if I cleared the message with the check button on the steering wheel or left it on. This chime would override the radio, phone calls, turn signal chime and any other noises put out by the vehicle in addition to covering the digital speedometer readout. I have yet to take it to a dealership as today was the first repetitive issue lasting over 30 minutes. I first noticed this at random over the last 2 months, but these messages would stop after 2-5 minutes worth of chimes. I plan to take this to a dealer for inspection, but wanted to check for recalls/ report the issue before doing so.
The service trailer brake system warning keeps appearing while driving without a trailer and with a trailer attached to the truck. There is a defective wire harness located on the left side of the steering wheel that needs replaced to fix the issue. The warning alert appears and dings while driving causing distractions while driving down the road.
Trailer brake system I have owned this Chevy Silverado 2015 since 2018 when I purchased it certified from a used car dealership in upstate New York. About one year into owning the vehicle I started to experience an alarm that was flash trailer brake system. This alarm would beep and flash in my center consul restricting me from sight distracting me from driving and is almost impossible to drive the car without distraction. I checked YouTube I called the manufacture I did so much to figure out what was going on and why this was happening considering I do not show any thing I did not understand why the trailer brake would cause such a problem considering I never told anything.After about three months of driving the car this trailer brake system alarm stopped. Now recently 2022 the trailer break system alarm is back and flashes nonstop and is relentless. I cannot listen to music I cannot hear my own self think the alarm is so loud and so distracting I would rather walk to the store then drive the truck I am forced to drive this truck because of the fact that I need to get to work but the safety hazards that are now limiting me and I am afraid this is going to cause a major accident or loss of life. I recently discovered that this is a manufacturers wire harness malfunction due to faulty wiring and a low-grade wire harness system. Before this gets any worse I need some sort of help. Trailer brake system alarm keeps going off.
Having problems with braking at slow speeds, pedal sticks to the floor when reversing into parking space or pulling up in drive thru lines at slow speeds etc.. no problems braking at regular speeds.
2015 Chevy Silverado, 62,300 miles. While driving at highway speeds. The air condition compessor locked up. Causing the engine to die and causing the loss of power steering and power brakes. I was unable to brake in a timely manner and had to swerve to avoid stopped traffic. It seems there are thousands complaining of the same issue online. There was no warning. I have contacted the dealer and they say there is no recall.
Trailer Brake System (Dismiss) has come on twice now in the driver information center screen.

Service Trailer Brake light comes on continuously making it very distractive when driving no matter if you dismiss the message on the dash.
Service trailer brake system alert is going off constantly during driving the vehicle. I was not towing anything and have only ever towed something one time with this truck. The alert produces a chime and flashes the alert over the speedometer screen.
At low speed I get a hard brake pedal like low vacuum ( booster pump failure) maybe.
steering and braking stops working during low speed. AC stops working and several components flash a warning message Trailer hitch and stabilizer and engine light appears sporadically. It shows that I do not have recalls but I believe the repairs in the past were not done correctly. old software or a electrical short from an faulty part!!!!!
The vehicle is experiencing a low speed brake failure where the brakes either pulse like ABS brakes or there is no brake at all and you have to push hard to the floor to get brakes. I have seen some reviews that say this was a recall but I did not find anything on your site and I have not received a notice.
Slow speed braking is severely affected upon engagement, such as backing out of my driveway, or maneuvering into a parking spot. The brake pedal will pulse as if the ABS system is activating, however, upon reaching/ keeping idle speed, the brake pedal will become very rigid and the pedal is very hard to compress downward. Once the vehicle is stopped, and power is applied again with the gas pedal, normal braking is restored.
At low speeds, like idle, brakes do not want to work. Very hard to press.
The service trailer brake system alarm goes off constantly while driving when trailer is not attached to vehicle. You can dismiss the warning but the alarm comes back. It’s a loud audible beeping that takes your eyes off the road.
On an interstate offramp facing downhill moving at a slower speed 15mph or slower, application of brakes resulted in a brake pedal that could only be depressed about an inch (outside of normal function). Braking distance and response was drastically reduced. Decreased braking performance was experienced shortly after while reversing into a parking spot at low speed (1 mph), almost hitting a concrete wall in an underground parking garage. The truck would take off on its own. The steering column would lock up, and the brakes would fail. The transmission is currently slipping an d these are just a few thing that are/have happened.
When going at low speed, power braking fails, and I have almost crashed my truck several times. Also - when going at low speeds, my electronic power steering fails - it's difficult to turn and the steering wheel "kicks back" in my hands. Extremely difficult to turn. I'm very concerned that these two things will lead to a crash/accident. Please help! The approximate date listed is the last time these two issues occurred - but it occurs almost every time I drive the vehicle.
Appears to be a brake booster with my truck like trucks similar with this year, however my truck isn't included in the recall
Was backing into parking place lost all brake pedal ran into another car . Lost brakes when backing trailer . This is a real problem
At low speeds the vehicle does not come to a complete stop. The brakes don’t fully engage and after the pedal is compressed down the vehicle drives forward and in reverse for a few feet.
Trying to park in a parking space at grocery store. Put truck in reverse to straighten up my parking job and felt like I had no power brakes. Had to really step on the brakes to get it to stop. Put the truck in drive and went forward and felt the same sensation: almost no braking. Almost had to stand on the brakes to get the truck stopped. After I turned the truck off, shopped and came back, there was no issue. I took the truck to a mechanic who could find no issue with brake pads, rotors or fluid. The same situation happened again a couple of weeks later. I checked brake fluid and there was plenty. It seems to occur at low speeds and resolves if I turn the vehicle off and let it sit for several minutes. I don't have confidence in the braking system now of my 2015 Chevy Silverado LTZ Z71. I have 103K miles on it and have regular maintenance records to include any recall notifications. I never received any recall info on braking issues.
My truck lost brake vacuum assist on Saturday 1/29/2022, it happened 7-8 times at engine idle speed while parking. I'm a 230 lb man and had a difficult time stopping the truck. This is a known issue, I've already had a recall performed on the truck for this issue, I believe the recall is NHTSA Campaign Number 19V645000. It's my belief that there is a flaw in the vacuum pump design, Chevrolet has tried to address this issue by reprogramming the software but that hasn't solved the problem. I believe this was a effort to address the issue while avoiding financial loss for Chevrolet. This is dangerous and I'm not going to put another pump on the vehicle, it won't fix the problem because it's a design issue. GM can either fix the truck or give me a truck that will stop. This truck has been a nightmare, I could go on about loss of power steering and complete loss of electrical power (apparently these are known recall issues for the same truck design, but my specific truck doesn't fall under that recall), but for now I'd simply like the company to be held accountable for the brake issue. Please help force GM to address this issue before some else is injured. Also, this has caused me to lose control of my vehicle and hit a post in the a parking lot, this could have been a person, luckily it wasn't.
Unable to brake at low speed idle. Brakes occasionally lose power when at low speed, for example stop and go in line at a restaurant drive through, or behind a line of cars at a stop sign. Brakes become hard, maybe 1/4 “ pedal travel and very difficult to stop and avoid collision with car in front. No issue at higher speeds.
At low speeds, the braking system is not operating at 100% efficiency. The pedal must be pushed hard and the vehicle does not STOP promptly. Happens in forward and reverse. There is also a grinding sound when this happens.
When driving home from work one day driving at low speed (Below 15mph) the brake pedal would not go down it seemed like no matter how hard I pushed the brake pedal would not move much. This caused me to run a stop sign once the truck slowed down enough and brakes were literally being pressed as hard as possible you could hear the front brakes grinding really bad and the truck still did not want to stop. I had to call a wrecker service to tow my truck to a local mechanic shop. Upon further investigation and 625 dollars later it was determined the vacuum pump failed. After replacing the pump no further issues so far.
I was backing out of an inclined driveway and when I applied the brakes, I had a hard brake pedal situation and I was not able to stop the truck until it rolled into the street. Thank goodness no car was behind me or coming down the street. I parked the vehicle and will not drive until I get to the dealer to look at. I checked the brake fluid reservoir and it was fill to appropriate level. Prior to this, 5 or 6 times, while driving, my stability control and ABS light came on but went off. Also, now that I think about it, those lights came on when the road was really pitched to one side or when I pulled into a elevated parking space.

The vacuum pump for the brake booster fails to build vacuum at low RPM (Under 1200 RPM). The part is still on the vehicle and can be inspected when the dealer completes repairs. The failure of the vacuum pump causes the ABS system to activate when attempting to come to a stop due to the need to apply excessive brake pedal pressure. This greatly increases stopping distance and has caused me to enter controlled intersections unintentionally. The problem has been confirmed by an independent repair shop. The problem has not been confirmed by anyone else yet. There were no warnings or messages prior to the failure. The only warning was a message AFTER the failure occurred to "service brake assist system".

At low speeds the brakes do not engage 100% of the time. After a few short pumps the brakes dont engage and I have to push as hard as I can on the brake pedal to get the truck to stop. It has happened at random times over the last year and there is no pattern to it. It seems to brake fine when I am traveling at higher speeds but when I am parking or in stop and go traffic I have issues with stopping the truck. I believe the problem is the vacuum pump for the brakes. This issue needs to be resolved since I have read hundreds of other complaints about this same braking problem.
While driving there is a reoccurring warning of trailer brake problem. I was told this is due to a faulty waring harness, that needs to be repaired.
My truck will start flickering and shuts off jerking the steering wheel out of my hand, then tells me to service stabilitrak. It mostly happens when I am driving (coming to a stop sign/light and/or while turning). Had it taken to two different dealers and they keep telling me it’s a mechanical issue when It seems more electrical.
While traveling at low speeds, my brake pedal gets extremely stiff and brake are almost inoperable. When pressed completely down, a grinding noise is heard. It seems as though my vehicle was impacted by the manufacture brake booster defect where NHTSA determined to be a safety recall.
I was towing my 44 foot trailer and I suddenly got an error that the trailer and the braking system was not connected to the truck. Luckily I was not going fast and was able to still stop but I have been driving the truck also when nothing was attached to my vehicle and I get that same morning trailer brake not attached in an error. I have contacted Chevrolet and they say there is nothing wrong there’s no recall on it but if you get online and all the places were the owners of General Motors trucks you will find numerous complaints about this problem they say they cannot duplicate this at the shops. But it continues to happen they say replace this and it still happens replace that and it still happens there’s a major problem somewhere and I imagine there have been accidents due to this error. I think it needs to be looked at from what I can tell it has not been I also had owned a GMC 20 14. 1/2 ton pick up and it had the same problem and I got the same answers. At low speeds I lose all pressure in my brake pedal and it goes very hard. I have to use every bit of force in my body to stop the car. There is already a recall for this issue with the vacuum pump for my year make and model however my VIN is not part of it. I tried to call General Motors about this and was told I am not part of the recall. When I asked to escalate the issue to someone dealing with the recall so they can be aware that it is affecting more vehicles than they think I was told I can't escalate it and was hung up on.

When slowing down vehicle to stop at traffic light or pull in parking space, brakes are failing and feels like vehicle has no brakes..have to press down on brake pedal really hard and as far down as it will go before vehicle will stop. Only happens at these lower speeds such as while trying to park or stop at a traffic light. We have had the brake pads, rotors, calipers, etc checked..everything looks good so this is not the problem. There were no warning lamps or messages associated with this problem..it has happened the last 2 times we have driven the vehicle..we are not driving it anymore at the moment until we figure out was is going on. Afraid we will hit something or someone else if we cannot get the vehicle stopped in time. Looking online seems there were several recalls for this problem for this vehicle but I never received a notice for it..possibly a bad vacuum pump or ABS defect? Needs to be reset or something..Please advise. Thank you.
Brakes aren’t properly working at low speeds like stop and go traffic or waiting in line at a gate. They vibrate like the pump is bad or something but brakes work fine when driving at normal speeds.
The brake system fails when operating at extremely slow speeds (i.e., at drive throughs and while parking). Brake pedal becomes rigid and difficult to engage. When engaging the foot break the vehicle continues to roll and is unresponsive resulting in the vehicle to continue moving. Service appointment is scheduled for 7/14/21 at a certified Chevrolet dealer/service provider.

DEALER DID NOT MAKE REPAIR AND ADVISED IT WOULD COST ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO EVEN FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. I NOW HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO A SEPARATE SHOP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND WAS TOLD A CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAS GONE BAD. HOWEVER, I AM NOW SLIGHTLY AT 89,000 MILES. DEALER IS SAYING WARRANTY ON CATALYTIC CONVERTS EXPIRED AT 80,000 MILES. FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WARPED WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. A/C COOLING COIL CRACKED UNDER 80,000 MILES AS WELL DUE TO A FAULTY PART, AND APPARENTLY THAT WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 30,000 MILES.

AFTER ALL THIS I CONTACTED GM HEADQUARTER AND THEY SENT A INSPECTOR OUT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE, RECENTLY CONTACTED ME AND EXPLAIN THAT WELL THE TRUCK WAS IN AN ACCIDENT! AND THEY REPLACED THE VACUUM BRAKE WITH A NEW ONE! THE TRUCK IS OPERATING OKAY! ALREADY FRUSTRATED ASKED WHAT ABOUT THE DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK! AND TO MY WIFE, RESPONSE I WILL HAVE TO GET BACK TO YOU! THIS CAUSED LOSS OF POWER IN SITUATIONS WHERE POWER IS NEEDED SUCH AS MERGING ON TO A FREEWAY. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHERE SOMEONE COULD BE KILLED. CHEVROLET SAYS THE FUEL INJECTOR IS NOT PART ON THE ENGINE EVEN THROUGH THE MANIFORD HAD TO BE REMOVED TO REPLACE IT. THE PART WAS NOT REPLACE UNDER UNDER WARRANTY. THIS PART SHOULD NOT BE FAILING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.

IT WASN'T UNTIL I RECEIVED THE SERVICE BULLETIN LETTER FROM CHEVY THAT I FULLY REALIZED WHAT WAS GOING ON. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE AND THE TECHNICIAN WAS ABLE TO VERIFY THE PROBLEM. THEY REPLACED THE VACUUM PUMP AND THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN FINE SINCE. CHEVY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST BECAUSE I WAS BEYOND THEIR 72,000 MILE LIMIT (ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED BEFORE I WAS AT THAT MILEAGE), SO I PAID $561 OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE THE NEW PUMP INSTALLED. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED WITH A RECALL. I REALIZED THE SERIOUSNESS OF IT THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED TO ME WHICH WAS WHEN I WAS BACKING UP THE TRAILER FOR MY KIDS BOY SCOUT TROOP AND FOUND MYSELF UNABLE TO STOP QUICKLY. BRAKES ARE A VERY SERIOUS COMPONENT. THIS PROBLEM DATES BACK TO THE 2014,S. I FEEL GM SHOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR MY REPAIR COST, SINCE THE PROBLEM CAME FROM THEIR PLANT. REPAIRS WERE MADE FOLLOWING THE GM BULLETIN AND USING GM PARTS FROM THE CHEVY DEALER FOR $1139 AS OPPOSED TO DYER CHEVROLET WANTING $1662 FOR A ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH INDICATES THAT MANY OTHERS ARE AFFECTED BY THE ISSUE AS WELL. TRAFFIC AHEAD WAS SLOWING DOWN, AND THE BRAKES WERE PRESSED, SPEED WAS REDUCED, BUT WHEN THE CARS IN FRONT (WITH AT LEAST 5 CAR LENGTHS OF SPACE ) SUDDENLY STOPPED, AND I SLAMMED THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES FAILED. SHE IS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AFTER ABOUT 100 YARDS OF EFFORT AND WAITS ABOUT 10 MINUTES, BEFORE THE BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL WOULD FREE UP. NO ERROR MESSAGE WAS PRESENT THE ENTIRE TIME THESE FUNCTIONS WERE DISABLED AND AFTER THEY FREED UP, IT WAS LIKE IF NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS EVER BEEN ON THIS VEHICLE. STRONG BELIEF THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND SHOULD HAVE A RECALL.

THE FIRST BRAKE ISSUE WAS AROUND 50,000 MILES AND HAPPENED ABOUT 8-10 TIMES BETWEEN JUNE AND NOVEMBER 2018.

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND LATER TAKEN TO CLASSIC CHEVROLET OF SUGAR LAND (13115 SOUTHWEST FREEWAY, SUGAR LAND, TX 77478). THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V578000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND THE REPAIRS HAD TO COVERED BY THE OWNER. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON ENOUGH PROBLEM THAT CHEVY HAS A BULLETIN FOR HARD BRAKE PEDALS DURING LOW SPEED. RUNNING A SEARCH ONLINE FOR THIS ISSUE COMES BACK WITH MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND QUITE A FEW HAVING REPEATED REPAIRS WITH THE PROBLEM ONLY RECURRING. THE BRAKES ARE NOT JUST HARD BUT PRETTY MUCH NON FUNCTIONAL WHEN THIS ISSUE OCCURS AND REALLY IS PRETTY SCARY WHEN I AM DRIVING AROUND MY BABY THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN WITH NO WARNING. I MENTIONED THIS ISSUE TO THE SERVICE WRITER WHO WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY ISSUES WITH THE SILVERADO BRAKES. AT THE TIME IT WAS COST PROHIBITIVE FOR ME TO HAVE IT INVESTIGATED AND COULD NOT LOSE THE VEHICLE FOR AN EXTENDED TIME. IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE THEN, AGAIN ONLY AT VERY LOW SPEEDS, SUCH AS PARKING. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT ON 11/28/2018 WITH CASTROVILLE CHEVROLET TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. ALL OF THESE INCIDENTS HAPPENED WHILE IN MOTION. I BELIEVED IT TO BE A VACUUM ISSUE AS IT ONLY HAPPENED AT LOW SPEEDS.

NO RESPONSE TO LETTER OR E-MAIL ASKING FOR A REFUND. RECEIVED A CALL IN RESPONSE TO MY CALL. CHEV REP STATED THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROBLEM.?? TOLD THE CALLER THAN ONLY NEED TO CHECK THE INTERNET TO FIND MANY COMPLAINTS. CONSUMER REPORTS THAT ONLY 111 COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED. I STRONGLY SUGGEST THERE ARE MANY MORE. AFTER TAKING A LENGTHY DRIVE THE VEHICLE HAD SAME BRAKE PROBLEMS MAKING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO BRAKE GOING DOWN A HILL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE LOCAL AUTO REPAIR ON NOVEMBER 15TH. REPAIR SHOP CALLED LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND SPOKE WITH PARTS MANAGER TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON RECENT MODEL CHEVY SILVERADO AS THEY HAD A 2016 SILVERADO IN THERE SHOP SAME DAY FOR SAME PROBLEM. CHEVY DEALER PARTS MANAGER INDICATED THERE WAS NOT A CURRENT RECALL BUT THEY DID NOTICE AN ISSUE AS THEY HAD SOLD 10 ABS PUMPS IN JUST ONE WEEK! THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE ABS PUMP. THERE IS NO WARNING IN THE VEHICLE SENSING SYSTEM TO ADVISE THE OPERATOR TO HAVE THE BRAKES SERVICED FOR THIS ISSUE. CHEVROLET ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB #PIT5361A & #PIT5361B) IN 2016. OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. MINE BRAKES FAILED AFTER JUST PULLING IN MY DRIVEWAY FROM A 600 MILE TRIP. HAD THIS HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED, I WOULD HAVE LIKELY BEEN INJURED OR KILLED, AS WOULD ANY VEHICLE OCCUPANTS IN A CAR I COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY HIT. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ONLINE, AND THERE ARE AN ENDLESS AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS POSTED FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL THAT I CAN FIND. POWER BRAKES STOP WORKING AT LOW SPEEDS. IT SEEMS THE VACUUM PUMP IS FAILING. SOMETIMES AT LOW SPEEDS THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES HARD AND REQUIRES ALOT OF EXTRA EFFORT TO STOP. I ALMOST RAN INTO THE REAR OF A CAR IN A DRIVE-THRU.

AT A LOW SPEED COMING INTO MY CARPORT THE BRAKES HAD A HARD PEDAL AND WOULD NOT STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON TWO OCCASIONS. 5-27-2017 AND AGAIN WHILE BACKING UP TO MY LAWN MOWER TAILOR ON 5-29-2017 . NOT SURE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BUT YOU COULD NOT PRESS PEDAL DOWN AT ALL. ?????

I WENT TO BACK OUT MY DRIVEWAY AT LOW SPEEDS AND THE BRAKES DID NOT APPLY. I PUT IT IN DRIVE AND APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY FAILED AGAIN. I APPLIED THE GAS AND WENT ON MY WAY THE BRAKES SEEMED TO WORK FINE. BUT FROM IDLE TO SLOW SPEEDS (1-10 MPH) THE BRAKES FAIL AND I HAVE TO PRESS THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I CAN OR IT WILL CONTINUE TO ROLL. HAVE DODGED SEVERAL CARS AT RED LIGHTS.

FRONT BRAKES ON LEFT SIDE STICK AND WEAR UNEVENLY AND RAPIDLY. I HAVE HAD FRONT BRAKES REPLACED TWICE WITH 80% PAD LIFE ON RIGHT SIDE BY MIDAS. MIDAS STATED THAT THERE IS A SERVICE ADVISORY TO REPLACE THE LEFT SIDE PISTON/CALIPER AND A NEW HOSE WHICH IS LARGER ALLOWING THE BRAKES TO RELEASE PROPERLY.

WHILE DRIVING MY FAMILY, I LOST OVER 90% OF MY STOPPING POWER WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY ON AN OFF RAMP. LUCKILY IT HAPPENED WHEN I HAD ALREADY SLOWED DOWN OFF THE RAMP TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY (AND NOT JUST MOMENTS BEFORE WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY). AFTER EXTREME CAUTION AND SMART USE OF DOWN-SHIFTING AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY NAVIGATE INTO A PARKING LOT THAT WAS REALLY CLOSE TO WHERE THE INCIDENT FIRST HAPPENED. AFTER HAVING THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY DEALER, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID IT WAS A VACUUM PUMP FAILURE AND REPLACED IT (NOTE THAT THEY OFFERED NO OTHER EXPLANATION OTHER THAN WHAT FAILED AND THAT IT WAS FIXED). THE TRUCK SEEMS TO BE OKAY FOR NOW, BUT I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY (AND MY FAMILY'S) SAFETY AND OVERALL RELIABILITY OF THIS TRUCK. WHO'S TO SAY IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN WHILE I'M IN A MORE HIGH-SPEED SITUATION?

CHECK TRAILER WIRING WARNING - WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS, WEATHER, SMOOTH VERSUS ROUGH ROADS, WHILE PULLING TWO DIFFERENT TRAILERS, THE TRUCK INDICATES TO CHECK THE WIRING AND 1 SECOND LATER IT INDICATED THE TRAILER IS CONNECTED. IT MAY HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES IN A MILE AND THEN NOT OCCUR FOR 50 MILES. ONE TIME THERE WAS A MESSAGE TO CHECK THE BRAKE CONTROLLER. THIS HAPPENS EACH TIME I HOOK A TRAILER UP TO THE TRUCK. TRUCK IS AT THE DEALER AND THEY ARE SAYING THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK. 6 MONTHS AGO WHEN I PULLED THE SAME TRAILERS WITH MY 2012 CHEVY PICKUP, I DID NOT HAVE THIS CONCERN. ONLY STARTED WITH THE NEW TRUCK. IS A CONCERN WHEN THE TRAILER BRAKES DO NOT WORK DURING THIS TIME. THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM WHEN I TOW MY TRAVEL TRAILER AGAIN.
