Wheel will lock up randomly on slow turns like an intersection, parking lot or anything. It’s very random and there’s no reason why it does it. The truck drives fine most of the time. It will say stabitrack service on my dash then it will go away my wheel locks up so I can’t turn it anymore then it will release like 10 seconds after. I nearly been in two accidents from this. The dealership can’t find out what’s wrong with the truck and I don’t feel comfortable knowing it’s not fix.
Vehicle will cut off as if an electrical short and the Service Stabilitrak indicator will flash on the dashboard along with warning chimes. This has happened several times at low speed (1st gear) especially while turning. The steering wheel locks and can not be turned. I've almost been involved in an accident this week because the truck turns off while making a turn. I was at a stop sign waiting to turn left having to cross 2 lanes of on coming traffic and when I accelerated the trucks electrical cut out and forced the steering wheel to go straight I gave it more gas and the truck turned back on. On another day I pulled up and put it in reverse turned right and the truck shut off I had to put it in park and restarted it to back in my driveway. GM need to fix this.
While I was driving, my steering wheel was locking up, my dash lights were going off and on, and while my truck was on I wasn’t able to steer. It happened twice that day.
I own a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 with around 61,000 miles on it. I work from home at the moment so I do not put a lot of miles on the vehicle. I drove the vehicle last on July 5 2025 and it sat in our driveway until July 10 2025. I got into the truck and the dash read “service power steering drive with care” and the power steering would not work and it was very difficult to turn the wheel. I tried starting the truck again and the message still displayed and the loss of power steering became intermittent. The power steering would work briefly and then the steering would lock up become stiff again. I let the truck sit over night and came out the next day in the afternoon to see what it was doing. I started the truck and the message did not display I tried to drive it up and down the road to see if it would come back. I drove for about 5 minutes and parked it back in my driveway and the issue came right back. I’m afraid to drive it completely on any main roads for the fact it might come back while I’m driving and cause me to crash or worse.
At low speeds and turning right or left the steering wheel locks up if wheel is turned quickly and engine quits momentarily, power is lost to instruments and radio, etc. or in one case the vehicle has shut off completely. I saw that there was a recall for this on earlier models but not for my VIN (2016 Silverado 1500)
Power steering suddenly quit at highway speed. Found a loose negative battery Pole. Tighten it. Then two weeks later it did the same thing at highway speed. No steering at all. Very dangerous at 70 mph on curved roads. Took it to chev dealer truck repair shop. Said the negative cable was bad and an electric motor in the steering housing had an electric short. Able to fix it at $2729!
I have a 2016 Silverado 1500 I bought new. It only has 33000 miles on it. Last week I was backing my boat into the shop and the steering wheel jerked back and forth on its own pretty violently and a stabilitrac warning popped up and the radio screen kinda went dead for a second. Then last night I was pulling in a parking space at a restaurant and it did it again. This time it jerked and went dead enough to cut the truck completely off. I had to put it in park and crank the truck again. It actually reset the radios time and date.
I am experiencing intermittent lose of steering control and a stabilitrak light flashing on the dash.
Truck lost power and died while making a low speed right turn. Attempted to start vehicle but was unable to immediately after losing power, after trying again for about 30 seconds I was able to get it to start and pull it off the road. I lost control of the steering as the steering wheel locked up. When I turned it back on the truck required me to roll the driver window down and back up and radio stations went back to the default station, letting me know that the truck lost power. This typically happens at low speed, but I have had it lose power while driving on the highway at night and my headlights shut off, luckily it immediately came back on.

This has happened multiple times, most of the time going at a low mph while turning (I.e into a driveway). However, it has happened driving through a residential neighborhood as I’m going straight or turning. My truck will completely power off and I will lose access to the steering. The steering wheel will lock up, any systems (radio, A/C, etc. that were on will go off). Multiple time I have had my battery/alternator checked after these instances and my battery/alternator passes with flying colors. Luckily each time it has happened I haven’t been in traffic, but if another car was around or expecting me to make a full turn, it could have run into me while my truck just shut down in the middle of the turn. I had to restart the whole car to be able to move out of the way. These instances have happened intermittently and seemingly at random. When I took it to a dealer, they didn’t know what it was and couldn’t reproduce it. Insurance, police or other have not inspected it - again it happens intermittently. There haven’t been warning lamps prior to these instances, but when it happens it says stabilitrak warning or another message on the screen as it shuts down completely.

When turning at low speeds the steering locks up, stabilitrack warning lights come on, entire dash and information center starts blinking then vehicle chutes down causing total loss of control.

Due to multiple electrical issues causes my stabilitrac, lane assist and power steering assist to cut out. After reading multiple forums and speaking to other owners many of these trucks have the same issue and Chevy isn’t addressing at all.
I was turning at low speeds and my power steering kept going out temporarily causing my steering wheel to jerk abruptly. While this was happening the dash lights and radio all went blank, turning on and off. Huge safety concern.
My truck starts shaking when I attempt to speed up or slow down, and it hesitates, shudders, and engages in a hard shift when changing gears. My mechanic could not fix it. Has been happening since Dec. 2018. Why is there no recall on this major issue?

Son was driving truck in a straight line when it lost all power. Although we have experienced issues during turns that I have noted before here, this is the first incident while driving in a straight line.
Dash board instrument panel and radio loses all power, May even cause vehicle to shut off not able to steer, If the cruise control is set it shuts it off. It mostly happens when you apply the brake or if I operate my passenger window from driver door controls. The problem has not been confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. Has not been inspected by the manufacturer or any other representatives. No it gives no indication prior to the failure. I have been researching it on google and youtube, I have seen a lot of owners with the same problem but no one seem to have a solution. Thank you
Driving down our road and the truck instantly lost power steering. Got home turned off the truck. Turned it backon and it worked. Each time I turn the vehicle off and turn it on the power steering works for a very brief time and then stops.
POWER STEERING FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME. FIRST TIME DEALER "FLASHED" ECU AND SOLVED THE PROBLEM. SECOND TIME THE ECU HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO BE BURNED OUT. NOT JUST BURNED OUT BUT NOT EASILY REPLACEABLE AS IT IS WELDED TO THE RACK AND PINION STEERING! ACCORDING TO THE VIN ON THE TRUCK IT SHOULDN'T EVEN NEED THE RECALL. IF NOT, THEN PLEASE TELL ME WHAT WOULD CAUSE SUCH A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE IN A VEHICLE WITH 26,000 MILES ON IT. DOES IT TAKE SOMEONES' DEATH TO BE WORTHY OF A RECALL?
Had momentary steering loss preceded by an electrical glitch. System recovered after a few seconds. A steering warning appeared on the display but no code was triggered. This is similar to the recall problems on the 2015 Silverado.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING AS DESCRIBED IN THE NOTICE. THIS IS SECOND TIME IT HAS OCCURED . FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED (2 YEARS AGO) TRUCK WAS WITH MY MECHANIC FOR 6 WEEKS AS HE TRIED TO "MECHANICALLY" FIX THE PROBLEM. FINALLY, DEALERSHIP TOLD HIM THEY NEEDED TO "FLASH" THE COMPUTER SYSTEM IN THE TRUCK. MECHANIC TOOK THE TRUCK TO DEALER WHEREUPON THE "FLASH" PROCEDURE WAS PERFORMED, THE POWER STEERING RETURNED AND THE TRUCK WAS GIVEN BACK TO ME AS "FIXED"! I HAVE ALREADY BEEN INVOLVED IN 1 LIFE THREATENING VEHICLE CRASH (2017 Dodge Durango) I'M NOT DOING THAT AGAIN. HELPPPPPPPP! LOOK IT UP.

I was traveling 30 to 35 miles a hour down about a 4 degree incline with a slight corner at the bottom when my power steering quit on me,no vehicles were coming my way, i stopped the truck and i was in the oncoming, i had to put alot of muscle just to get back in my lane, when i got the truck home i let it sit for a little while, got back in and it was working, i started to take it for a drive and the power steering quit,so i parked it and tried to drive it again and the same as before the power steering quit,so i cannot safely drive it now. I was not in an accident but was able to get it home.
Loss of power steering. For no reason and no pattern the power steering goes out. A warning message comes up in the driver info screen saying warning loss of power steering. When it happens it does not come back on until you shut the truck off, open and close the driver door to completely shut the truck off. It takes different lengths of time for it to begin working again. It goes away for a week to a couple of months. It happens under all driving conditions including highway, city, and country driving. Very dangerous because you can barely steer the vehicle. GM needs to stand up and take care of this problem. Others have reported this also.

THE TRUCK WILL CUT ENGINE AT ANY SPEED, TOTALLY LOSING POWER TO BREAKS, STEERING, ODOMETERS ETC. IT MOSTLY COMES BACK ON AFTER A FEW SECONDS AND SENDS A CODE OF MANY DIFFERENT KIDS (SERVICE PARK ASSIST, STABIITRAC, ROLL WINDOW DOWN AND BACK UP, TRAILER BRAKE ASSIST ETC) THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. THIS COULD HAPPEN DURING A CRITICAL DRIVING MOVE AND COULD END UP DEADLY. CURRENTLY, THERE ARE 70,000 MILES ON THIS TRUCK AND OUT OF STANDARD WARRANTY AND WILL PROBABLY COST A LOT TO FIX. MY SERVICE POWER STEERING ALERT CAME UP ON MY DIC AND LOST POWER STEERING. WHEN I GOT HOME I SHUT VEHICLE OFF AND WAITED 10 MINUTES AND STARTED VEHICLE UP AND MESSAGE WAS GONE AND I HAD POWER STEERING. DROVE TO WORK NEXT DAY AND WAS OK. JUST BEFORE I ARRIVED HOME, I GOT THE SAME MESSAGE AND NO POWER STEERING AGAIN. SAME SCENARIO AS BEFORE, LET VEHICLE SIT AND RESTART AND EVERYTHING WORKING. I DROVE FOR 4 DAYS AND ON THE 5TH DAY IT DID IT AGAIN. I HAD TAKEN IT TO A GM DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AT THE TIME I TOOK IT TO THEM, IT WAS NOT WORKING. THEY SAID THAT THE MODULE 'MAY' BE BAD OR POSSIBLY THE STEERING RACK IS BAD. ALL CODES WERE COMMUNICATION ERRORS. WHEN I GOT VEHICLE HOME, I CHECKED FOR ANY LOOSE WIRES UNDER DASH AND THE POWER STEERING CAME BACK. I TOLD THEM THAT I KNOW PRIOR YEAR TRUCKS HAD THIS ISSUE. I TOLD THEM THIS AND THEY SAID THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING RACK AT MY COST OF 2600.00 THAT THE VEHICLE HAS 100,000 MILES ON IT AND THINGS GO BAD. I TOLD THEM THAT IT WAS HIGHWAY MILES AND THAT SHOULDN'T MATTER.

ON JAN 30, 2021 A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON START-UP BUT HAD NO NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE IN DRIVING CONDITIONS OR READING FROM DASH GAUGES. CHECKED ENGINE CODE AND IT READ PO6DD, TOOK MY TRUCK TO A GM DEALER AND THEY RAN A TEST SHOWING 20PSI TOO LOW OF OIL PRESSURE AT THE TOP SIDE OF THE ENGINE AS A RESULT OF A FAILED OIL PUMP SOLENOID. WAS TOLD THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ENGINE FAILURE. COST TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE IS >$3,000.00. WHILE THE DEALERSHIP WAS TEST DRIVING MY TRUCK AFTER REPAIRING THE OIL SOLENOID THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING UNIT FAILED. THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IS NEARLY $1,500.00 TO REPAIR. THESE PROBLEMS ON A 5 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH 103,490 MILES SEEMS LIKE A MAJOR ISSUE. I REACHED OUT TO GM AND THEY SAID THAT THESE ISSUES ARE NOT UNDER RECALL AND WILL NOT BE ASSISTING IN ANY COSTS INVOLVED IN REPAIRS.

NHTSA RECALL 17V-414 AND GM RECALL 17276 ARE FOR THE 2014 CHEVROLET SILVERADO VEHICLES. I HAVE A 2016 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS DESCRIBED IN THE REFERENCE RECALLS, BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR 2016 MODEL YEAR. 2016 MODEL YEAR NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AS WELL.

I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH TRANSMISSION ISSUES SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. THERE IS DIRT AND SAND INSIDE MY BRAKE LIGHTS, RUST UNDER THE SEATS, DIRT AND RUST UNDER THE DASH, BRAKE CALIPERS ARE HORRIBLY RUSTED AND PAINTED TO BE COVERED UP BY THE SELLING DEALERSHIP, WIRING ISSUES CONTINUE TO ARISE AND REPAIRED BY MY MECHANIC. TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM IS NOW FAILING. STEERING IS HAVING ISSUES NOW, EITHER BAD TIE RODS OR BAD CV JOINTS. I HAVE HAD COMPLETE LOSS OF ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING IN THE PAST. I SUSPECT THIS VEHICLE WAS IN A FLOOD AND THE DEALERSHIP COVERED IT UP. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS SINCE JANUARY OF 2019, AND I HAVE TEXT RECORDS STARTING APRIL 7TH 2019. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM A FAMILY MEMBER'S DEALERSHIP AND I BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY HAVE BEEN LESS THAN HELPFUL. SEEKING LEGAL HELP IS MY LAST RESORT.

ONCE THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON A FEW TIMES IT WILL GO INTO A 'LIMP MODE'. I'VE BEEN STRANDED IN THE VEHICLE 4 TIMES. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TWICE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY, ONCE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT, AND TWICE WHEN FIRST STARTING THE VEHICLE. GM AND THE DEALERSHIP HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE AND ARE NOW REFUSING TO HONOR THE WARRANTY, REPLACE THE VEHICLE, OR REFUND THE PURCHASE. THIS HAS BEEN A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. MY WIFE AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS TYPE OF EPISODE 5 TIMES BETWEEN US. THIS TRUCK DOES HAVE THE LANE MONITORING SYSTEM AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE GENTLE TUG OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND VIBRATION IN THE SEAT. THIS IS NOT LIKE THAT. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT VERY LOW SPEED WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN FROM A STOPPED POSITION AND IT HAS HAPPENED AT VERY LOW CONTINUOUS SPEED SUCH AS ENTERING A DRIVEWAY. IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED WHEN TURNING RIGHT. SOMETIMES IT CORRECTS ITSELF, SOMETIME YOU HAVE TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION AND REBOOT IT. I HAVE GIVEN IT TO THE DEALER FOR EVALUATION. ELECTRIC STEERING FAILED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS MULTIPLE TIMES DURING A LONG TRIP, WHEN NEW. THE STEERING, WHEN OUT, WAS VERY HARD TO STEER BUT DID NOT LOCK UP OR CAUSE ANY SUDDEN TRUCK MOVEMENTS. THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO REPLACE THE ELECTRIC STEERING ON THE NEW TRUCK. NO MORE ISSUES AFTERWARDS.

THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 3,200 MILES AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT SINCE APRIL 29, 2016. CHEVROLET NOTIFIED. VEHICLE IS AT STEVENSON CHEVROLET, SWANSBORO, NC 28584. IF THIS HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY I PROBABLY WOULD NOT BE WRITING THIS.
