I bought the vehicle with 14000 miles.had oil changed at dealership ever ,5000 miles.I drive 10 miles a day.at 55000 miles the lifters are ticking like a time bomb.It makes me sick that a vehicle with no more miles than this is in this shape.Gm should stand behind there junk motors with this afm.

Dec 17, 2025

The lifter collapsed causing it to scar the cam shaft due to afm/dod

Dec 13, 2025

Nothing yet. Between doing research and general observation the DOD/AFM is a known issue for these motors. The engine will randomly loose a valve and cause the engine to shut down causing for a major Saftey concern if traveling or towing

Dec 7, 2025

Loud tapping sound appears to be coming from Lifters and/or camshaft lobes from cylinder 2. Preliminary diagnosis was done by independent service center. Estimated cost to repair could be as much as $10,000. Vehicle odometer reads 72,108 miles. Vehicle started this problem early November 2025.

Aug 21, 2025

Premature engine failure specifically the lifters failed and the push rod failed causing the vehicle to become unusable and stranding the operator. Also transmission surges and slips causing unsafe driving conditions

May 25, 2025

making a ticking noise on the engine

May 24, 2025

Unknown system or component failure. Vehicle is available upon request to inspect. My families safety was at risk, power steering goes out while driving, all service lights come on, vehicle goes into “limp mode”, would go in and out of gear while driving, gears won’t work properly (P,R,D…), when shifting into R camera won’t come on. This problem is continuing. Have not been able to get it into dealership. Vehicle has not been inspected by police, dealership, or insurance. Stabilitrak notification, and all service lights go off. No problem or symptoms prior to failure. Vehicle was well maintained and I have service records of every repair, oil change, etc.

May 6, 2025

While driving my vehicle, with around 85,000 miles, the engine suddenly began running rough and felt jerky and sluggish. This was concerning and potentially dangerous situation, as the engine failure happened while I was travelling at high speed. A sudden loss of power on the highway put me and other drivers at serious risk. The check engine light came on, so I pulled over as soon as I could safely do so. Shortly after, the light started flashing, so I shut off the engine and contacted the dealership service department. They advised having the vehicle towed in for inspection. Prior to this event, I had not had any issues with the vehicle nor had the check engine light come on. After looking into it, the dealership initially suspected a thrown rod but said they wouldn't know the full extent of the issue until they could tear down the engine. Upon further inspection, they determined that the lifters had failed and would need to be replaced. The dealership has performed all regular maintenance and oil changes on my vehicle. When I asked what could have caused this, they explained that it's a known issue with these lifters and engines - one that Chevrolet has experienced for years, even in models prior to my 2017.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact had the vehicle diagnosed by a mobile mechanic. The mobile mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that there was a misfire in cylinders #3 and #7. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact towed the vehicle to B2B Fleet Services where it was diagnosed and determined that the head caskets had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the lifters were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

Electronics for hands free stopped working. This part was already replaced once. When backing up, the whole truck shut down. I restarted, it said to roll drivers side window down and up. Truck started up again. Few days later... returning from trip, lost power, windshield wipers came on, electronics in truck started blinking. Pulled over, rolled driver's side window up and down. started back on road. This has happened numerous times. Whenever I gave it extra gas, asking for power to pass, same thing mentioned above happened. Very stressful! Next day, hit a hole, truck totally shut down again. Husband was able to safely coast off road, however, if he had been pulling out at a major intersection, this could have been bad. Warning light that comes with shutdown says "stabltrack issue". I have not seen our dealer service department yet, but plan to very soon. VERY unsafe... and I love this truck!!!!

Apr 28, 2025

The AFM system is a faulty system that starved my lifters of oil and they ended up collapsing causing a flat spot on my cam. The engine code would come up as a misfire but the code is caused by the flat spot created on the cam by the lifter it's a faulty system that cost me $7,000. My 8spd transmission also has a hard shift from 1st to 2nd pushing the vehicle forward and jerking it when it shifts. The dealer and GM said this was natural with this type of transmissions which we now know is a lie.

Lifters caused engine failure at 114000 miles resulting in needing a new engine

Mar 17, 2025

After remotely starting my truck, I was met with a strange noise that was both noticeable and unprecedented. The certified Chevy dealership provided three different estimates for tearing down the engine to verify the faulty lifter. Unfortunately, the dealer and warranty provider are unwilling to accept that these issues are inherent to the AFM system. Given the vehicle's relatively low mileage of 89,000 miles, such repairs seem premature.

Mar 7, 2025

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the engine started misfiring and the vehicle was shuddering. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with cylinder #4 lifter failure and a bent push rod. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to a Toyota dealer, where it was diagnosed with a bent push rod. The vehicle was then taken to Spradley Chevrolet (2146 U S 50, Pueblo, CO 81008), where it was diagnosed with cylinder #4 lifter failure and a bent push rod. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered to partially cover the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Feb 25, 2025

The steraring wheel shutters, after a few transmission flushes , it went away but still kicks hard when going through gears. The lifters failed in my vehicle 2 times , rods were bent.

Feb 24, 2025

My truck is a 2017, but only has 46,000 miles on it. The engine light came on and it started banding loudly. I lost power and it would not go over 30 miles per hour. The dealer informed me the lifter failed and destroyed the cam shaft. Upon research, I have discovered this is a problem for many of the 5.3 engines. Many people are stuck now. I realize I have no warrantee, but I take excellent care of the truck and it only has 46,000 miles on it. It should not need a new motor, especially if it is due to a defect from GM. They knew about this issue and are doing nothing. I am now faced with an $11,000 quote for a new engine. This is wrong on so many levels.

Feb 6, 2025

Engine push rod was bent which caused lifters and 1cam shaft to be destroyed. Vehicle is tore down at dealership right now. The immediate decrease of speed and power while in traffic. Then a loud bang and engine missing. Yes, dealership. No No, but once it failed check engine light was flashing, anti lock brake lights came on. In the last few weeks four other trucks, besides ours, have been into the same dealership with similar problems. At the time when our truckcame in another truck was in for similar problems. The years of the vehicles are from 2017, 2018, 2019, Chevy Silverado 5.3 liter engines.

Feb 5, 2025

The truck suddenly started misfiring, running rough and lost power while driving. All the dash lights illuminated and the check engine light began flashing. We were a couple hours from home so we had to have the truck towed home. This could have been much worse as we were towing a trailer on a busy highway but luckily we were able to pull over to the side of the highway. Upon returning home we had the truck checked at the local Chevrolet dealership service department and were told we needed a whole new engine. After about 5 months after the initial incident we paid to have a new engine installed at the same dealership that inspected it. The truck had not exhibited any signs of any problems prior to the incident.

Engine failure in December, 2024. Lifters, Cam Shaft and Cam Bearings. Working with my dealer now for an engine replacement.

Jan 19, 2025

I spent 40k cash for my 2017 high country to find out GM great idea of AFM and no good 10 speed transmission/torque converter was made with low quality and careless parts. I'm definitely getting me a lawyer to fix this [XXX] because all I've ever wanted was this body style but all they care about is money over quality. GM and they're retail sellers knew about AFW problems and sold us [XXX] anyway. They are saying that transmission issues aren't they're fault and actually getting away with that answer. Who's else fault could it be when it's the same problem with the same model. To be an American and get [XXX] by our own is getting old. If I can get sold [XXX] I can at least get a shovel with it...so I'm getting a damn good shovel/lawyer. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at 70 MPH, the engine had a misfire, and the vehicle started shaking. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was parked at the workplace and a handheld scan tool retrieved DTC: P0300 and P0324. The vehicle was towed to the residence and then was towed to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the lifters and camshaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Dec 31, 2024

2 times total electrical and engine failure while driving.

Dec 1, 2024

It feels like it is licking into the four wheel drive going down the road with speeds up to 30 miles it feels like it begins to jerk I have heard other owners of this vehicle type are saying a possible recall on the transmission

Sep 20, 2024

Engine shuts down on its own causing steering wheel to jerk and almost locks preventing control. Has been doing this for three weeks and is now getting much worse. Seems to do when making slow speed sharp turn. Almost hit another car in intersection yesterday due to steering control loss. I have seen numerous mentions of this on the internet but seems GM does not have a fix. The truck is now dangerous to drive as it can completely shut down in the middle of an intersection.

Misfiring - technician told me I have to delete the AFM and replace all lifters. $10k+ repair that I can not afford

May 3, 2024

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the engine was checked, and no issues were found with the engine. The failure reoccurred. The contact stated that after completing an inspection of the engine compartment, the contact noticed the fractured bolts on the exhaust manifold. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

While turning vehicle at slow speeds the trailer warning,no trailer on vehicle, stability control hill assist radio and steering stop working as well as vehicle will stall out. Depending on when it happens it may stall while turning into traffic. I have searched the issue and found there is a ground problem under dash near windshield. It has happened multiple times like 15 as of this date.

Mar 5, 2024

In reverse my brakes dont work, its like they are grinding, ive changed the rear brakes hoping to fix the issue, i have no codes. It has almost made me wreck due to failure to stop with my kids in the truck, also the afm system is defective in order to keep my engine as safe as possible i had to put a afm deactivate plug into the obd port. Ive tried to figure out the brakes but no one can explain. Spending 34 thousand dollars i expect to have my vehicle safe for my children. I have been strictly chevy my whole life but this is unacceptable. Where we live in alaska id expect the vehicle to be in order and it does it mainly at steep hills and it hasnt done it when ive had people look at it.

Torque Converter

Feb 6, 2024

Torque converter clutch system stuck in “off”; and won’t engage when commanded by system…this is apparently a known and common issue. Causing gears to not engage properly and a safety hazard when driving on freeway and higher speeds.

Dec 31, 2023

Complete loss of electrical system power and engine power, vehicle stalls and Coast to a stop. This has happened seven different times in the last 4000 miles driven. Possibly due to faulty ground connection electric power steering system and or stabilitrak I don't know but it is very dangerous. And there has been many other people experiencing this on Silverado Facebook groups.

Dec 21, 2023

2017 Silverado with 6L80, 59k miles - transmission failure due to TCC failure. Rough shifting, coming out of gear, shuttering when accelerating. Truck started to whine loudly when it was promptly taken to the dealership. Dealership dropped the pan and used magnet. Visible metal was in the transmission pan. There were no indicator lights on the dash from this issue. Requested goodwill warranty, gm replied they would cover 20% or $7k so I am stuck to pay $5k for a known issue. The replacement transmission is not new that they are offering, it is "certified refurbished" where they use the old casing with new internals. They are providing a 3yr/100k miles warranty on the new transmission. Deciding factors from GM were age, miles, service at dealership. Incredibly unsatisfied that GM is standing behind their vehicles not lasting 60k miles.

Dec 17, 2023

Engine has always “ticked” since new took it multiple times to dealer they said it’s normal. Took it to shop they say its pushrods. Brakes front they wear unevenly even after being replaced by shop it always feels like truck is braking feels like it takes extra effort on gas pedal Transmission its a 6L80 only 85,000 miles and already there is metal shavings in pan and transmission is shifting hard and slipping.

Dec 5, 2023

There is a specific serpentine belt that controls the AC and the water pump on this vehicle. That particular belt is 100% obsolete. The manufacturer has discontinued that part and since it is a stretch belt, it cannot be replicated by Gates or Continental until they get their hands on an unused and uninstalled belt. This has caused us to no longer be able to operate the vehicle and now we are upside down thousands of dollars because the vehicle is now a total loss and insurance wont cover it.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact removed his foot from the accelerator pedal to depress the brake pedal while approaching a stop light, the vehicle stalled. The contact cycled the key several times when the vehicle started. A message displayed on the instrument panel “Evaporative Emission System Pressure System/Switch range/Performance”. The contact stated that he was concerned for safety while driving the vehicle. The contact stated that on a separate occasion while driving at an undisclosed speed, he heard a knocking sound coming from the hood of the vehicle. The contact then used a code reader to diagnose the vehicle and retrieved DTC code: P0451 – (Evaporative Emission System Pressure) and P0304 (Cylinder 4 misfire). The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that a claim would be started after the vehicle was taken to the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

The contact stated that the sound was like a metal on metal. The contact stated that he drove approximately 20 MPH and returned to the residence and turned off the vehicle. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the lifters were sticking and were not opening as designed and the cylinder was pressing down on the cam shaft. The mechanic determined that the lifters needed to be replaced and then he would inspect the cam shaft for damage. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

18V586. GM's own number for this recall is 18289. These are for the 2015 Silverado’s . The 2017 Silverado 1500 are doing the same thing as the recall from above describes . My wife had almost accidents cause of this . I almost had an accident today as well getting off the freeway . I know a lot of people are having these problems as well . Gm needs to own up to this mistake they did with these trucks . They should be held responsible for this defect on this truck .

The AFM system to the vehicle started to fail while I was on the road with my family. Vehicle went into limp mode as the vehicle started. Displayed on the dashboard engine loss of power with check engine light on. Took to the dealer to repair and got quoted a spark plug change when the issue is clearly something else.

Jul 26, 2023

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted on the third attempt. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the oil pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 147,466.

The engine lifter failed. The lifters collapsed on the highway. The inspection is available upon request. My husband was the driving on the highway and heard a tapping noise. All the engine lights came on and he pulled off to side of highway and was instructed not do drive the vehicle. The vehicle needed to be towed and was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and confirmed if was the lifters which needed to be replaced. There were no warning signs, no lamps, no lights prior to the failure to alert something was wrong. After paying for the repairs at the dealer in the amount of 5,441.18 and other expenses, we reached out to Chevrolet Customer Assistance asking for them to cover the cost of this repair. We did not have time to get an extended warranty since this vehicle is new. With a vehicle having 56,000 miles on it, it should not be having engine problems. Our argument and frustration is GM knew of this problem on this particular vehicle and did not request a recall and this model. They refused to give us a full refund and gave us 2,720.29. We appreciate the assistance, but after doing research on this problem, this is a common concern and many customers have had to have their lifters replaced. GM knows of this issue and did nothing to correct their mistake. I have never experienced engine problems on any of the vehicles I have owned for over 10 to 15years old.

Jul 21, 2023

Lifter failure in cylinder 1. It is a known issue 8 speed transmission shutter and hard shifts.

Jul 13, 2023

Vehicle exhibited a loud bang from the engine compartment followed by a ticking noise from the engine and loss of power while highway driving in a remote rural area. Check engine light did illuminate. Vehicle was subsequently towed and issue was diagnosed by an independent repair shop as a failure of an active fuel management valve lifter and was repaired. Approximately 10,000 miles later while also at speed on a congested highway the vehicle experienced a second failure 12 July 2023. No dash lights nor warning indicators were illuminated, though problem was indicated by severe loss of power and very rough idle. Issue was diagnosed by dealership as failure of #4 and #6 cylinder AFM lifters....which were replaced new following the first failure in summer 2022.

Jul 11, 2023

Dear NHTSA, The truck has lost electrical power several times over the past few months but only 3 times while driving. Today it completely shutdown while making a right hand turn at a busy intersection causing the loss of power steering and braking while narrowly missing a car waiting for the traffic light It took both hands to turn the wheel and both feet to push the brake pedal enough to stop on the shoulder. Prior to this latest incident I removed the engine compartment splash pan, checked the starter and ground connections and all seemed well. I then unplugged, cleaned and reconnected all electrical connections in the engine compartment and fuse box. The complete shutting down of a vehicle and its electric system while driving is a very dangerous matter. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

The transmission locked up while driving such that we came to a stop in traffic with our newborn and toddler in the back seat and were required to call 9-1-1 because the vehicle was stuck in a gear and would not move while we were in the middle of a road in traffic. The problem has been confirmed by a dealer that the transmission blew due to metal getting into the transmission from failure of transmission pan. There was minimal warning before it happened. Approx. 8 months prior we had taken it in to dealer because the RPMs were running high and and we’re told it was the 4 wheel drive causing it and approx. 2 weeks prior to this incident we heard grinding.

Was driving down the road at 65 and the truck shut down completely and had control of steering that time. Put truck in neutral and it restarted. Then was in a gas station getting gas then went to pull out after filling up and the wheels jerked and almost broke my wrist the instrument cluster said stibilatrac and shut down. Went to restart then the instrument panel said lower driver window then close . It did this one more time in the gas station parking lot.

I drive a 2017 chevrolet silverado 1500 lt 5.3 V8 Pickup. I currently have 86k miles on this vehicle. I am the second owner and lately have been experiencing loss of power, engine hesitation, poor fuel economy, and high oil consumption. I brought my truck to the dealer I purchased it from ( Koons Chevrolet of Tysons Corner VIRGINIA ) I brought the vehicle in for service because back in February I had the check engine light flash and the truck engine almost cutout (whilst traveling at high speeds )completely. This past week I was merging onto a highway and upon pressing the pedal to increase speed to merge safely the engine lost power completely for about 5 seconds and then magically regained power. During this i was almost side swiped and forced to drive on the shoulder almost crashing into the barrier wall. I had the info screen on my dashboard and was able to trace when this issue occurred. Upon switching from V4-V8 mode. Further research with a mechanic friend of mine revealed that Chevrolet has been using the same failing lifters since 2014 and it was a known issue, yet never recalled. How can I go about either fixing this issue or recuperating the sales price I paid for this faulty vehicle? I dont think it's right that the American tax payers bailed out general motors only for them to cut cost by way of reducing the quality of vehicles they were making... absolutely egregious. Please help. Sincerely, Unhappy Taxpayer 🙁

One random morning engine made funny noises. By time I left work engine light flashing and stability control wouldn’t turn off. Dropped it off to dealership told me it’s 4500 to fix one lifter that failed 7500 to fix all. They know it a problem that GM issues letter on what they recommend to fix, but no recall. My truck warranty expired on 10/2022 and incident happened on 01/2023 my truck had 32987 miles when dropped off after repair 32997 miles. If issue is know and class action in place why hasn’t GM issued a recall.

Jan 13, 2023

While turning out of a parking space. I went into reverse, when I tried to turn the steering wheel it turned the other direction. The dash went dim, stabilitrac message came on the information display and the truck completely shut off. I had no lights no anything. I popped the hood touched the +battery terminal and lights came back on. Was able to drive home

Dec 11, 2022

Loss of power and misfire. I was on I44 in Oklahoma with my 1 year old and couldn’t go over 45 MPH. The mechanic said it was a lifter failure and it ruined cam shaft. In all the total repairs were $3800.00. I’m just learning about this common problem and seen there was a class action lawsuit filed.

Sep 27, 2022

In my truck it goes from V8 to V4 and I want it to stay in V8 all the time. Also, I have 5.3 engine, and cuz it goes into V4, that means that the back 2 lifters isn't getting enough oil, which can cause those lifters to lock up. I think those trucks that have that issue need to be recalled, cuz if the lifters lock up it can cause the engine to lock up and cause the truck to have an accident and possibly hurt a lot of people. Also, yes there are tuners you can buy to stop the V4 part, but who knows what they can mess up in the computer part.

The contact's husband owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact initially took the vehicle to Robideaux Motors CO. (51 W Dalton Ave, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83815) where a diagnostic test showed error codes for the fuel injectors. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where another diagnostic test was performed and the mechanic suggested that all that 8-fuel injectors be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to TSB: N182198000. The vehicle was then taken to another dealer where the contact was notified that the vehicle was not included in the technical service bulletin. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and the contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the dealer's possession. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Fuel injectors are misfiring. This has caused the shifting of gears to be rough. Also, when at a complete stop, then a small amount of force is applied to the gas pedal, a sudden jump forward will take place. Check engine light and the traction control lights have came on.

On 9/11/2017 i purchased this 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom double cab truck. I owned it for over 7 years. (46000 miles) And garage kept since day 1. I noticed a lot of rust on frame and Spair tire a lot . Also the paint on the body is chipping a lot. I did not have any problems with the lifter issue yet. But i feel as soon as it goes out of warranty I will have to deal with rebuilding my engine. GM knows of this problem and not doing anything about it. It would be nice if this engine could be replaced with none of the AFM parts and at no cost to me.

My engine went out while I was driving in the highway. The engine started ticking and I was instantly limited to 30mph with cars going highway speeds around me. No symptoms or warnings prior to that. Dealer said it was faulty lifters required for the AFM module.

CODE P0300 AND P050D KEEP ON BEING THROWN. VEHICLE STARTED HAVING THESE ISSUES BACK WHEN I HAD 30K MILES AND NOW AT 45K, I AM GETTING THEM MORE OFTEN. THE DOWNSHIFTS BECAUSE OF THIS ARE BAD, THE VEHICLE JERKS WHEN IT DOWNSHIFTS. FEELS LIKE SOMEONE IS REAR-ENDING YOU. VEHICLE SOMETIMES SHAKES AND SOUNDS LIKE ITS MISFIRING. I CAN SOMETIMES TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURN BACK ON AND IT WILL WORK FINE LIKE NOTHING IS WRONG. CHEVY WANTS $150 TO DIAGNOSE AND ABOUT $12000 TO REPLACE INJECTORS SINCE THEY ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THEIR BUMPER TO BUMPER OR POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. THAT'S PRETTY BAD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DO A MAJOR REPAIR ON A VEHICLE THAT IS NOT THAT OLD AND HAS TO COME OUT OF MY POCKET.

RADIATOR FAILED AT 58K MILES IN DECEMBER 2019. DEALER INDICATED THAT THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THE COSTS TO REPAIR. QUOTED COST WAS $3800. REPAIRED AT INDEPENDENT SHOP FOR $2900. NOW, MARCH 2021, THE RADIATOR HAS FAILED AGAIN AT 78K MILES. NORMAL CITY DRIVING. NO OFF-ROADING OR RACING. THIS FAILURE CAUSES OIL TO MIX WITH COOLANT. MANY MECHANIC LABOR HOURS REQUIRED AS BOTH COOLING AND OIL SYSTEMS NEED TO BE THOROUGHLY FLUSHED TO REMOVE RESIDUAL COOLANT AND OIL.

THE VEHICLE THROWS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT RANDOMLY (AVG ONCE EVERY 2 MONTHS). IT OCCURS AROUND 65 MPH (INTERSTATE) WHICH, LEADS ME TO BELIEVE IT IS A MISFIRE ON ONE OF THE CYLINDERS. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND A DIAGNOSTIC COMPLETE. SPARK PLUGS WERE CHANGED AND THEY SAID IT FIXED THE ISSUE; YET IT HAS NOT FIXED THE ISSUE. I NOTICE NO POWER LOSS WHEN IT COMES ON (BLINKS). THIS LIGHT BLINKS ROUGHLY 30-45 SECONDS AND GOES OFF.

I RECEIVE MANY ERROR LIGHTS EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY 2017 SILVERADO. LIGHTS INCLUDE STABILITRACK AND TRACTION CONTROL DISABLED, TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEMS SERVICE, AND POWER STEERING DIMINISHED. THE SAFETY COMPLAINT IS DUE TO THE POWER STEERING ACTUALLY SHUTTING DOWN AND A SHARP LOSS IN ENGINE POWER AND HARD SHIFTING. ON MANY OCCASIONS I HAVE HAD TO LEAVE THE ROAD UNTIL THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. I HAVE GONE INTO QUIRK CHEVROLET ON MANY OCCASIONS BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I HAVE RECENTLY CONTACTED CHEVROLET DIRECTLY AND THEY HAVE SET UP A CASE AND WILL KEEP OPEN UNTIL THIS IS FIXED.

SHERRY THIS HAPPENS, THE STEERING FEELS LIKE THERES RESISTANCE TURNING AND THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT IS TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND LET IT SIT. OTHER TIMES IT WILL HAPPEN AND THE VEHICLE WILL LOSE TOTAL POWER,ALMOST LIKE I REMOVED THE KEY BUT THE VEHICLE WILL STILL BE ROLLING. FUEL INJECTOR OR FUEL PUMP DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. ON TWO (2) DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, MONTHS APART, MY ENGINE HAS LOST POWER AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. BOTH TIMES AT LOW SPEEDS 10 - 15 MPH AND LOW RPMS. THIS HAS NEARLY CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO ONE VEHICLE AND FOR ANOTHER TO ALMOST HIT ME FROM BEHIND AS MY CAR DIED WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN OFF A BUSY ROAD. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED IN TWICE, BUT THE DEALERSHIP AND GM BOTH SAY UNLESS THEY CAN DUPLICATE THE ISSUE THEY WILL NOT FIX OR REPLACE ANYTHING. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED/REVIEWED. ON TOP OF THIS, THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE VACUUM PUMP FOR THE BRAKES AND DO A SOFTWARE PATCH UPDATE BECAUSE THE BACKUP CAMERA WAS DANGEROUSLY BRIGHT, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. THE CAMERA ISSUE TOOK 2 VISITS TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS TO GET RESOLVED. GM IS PLAYING THE NUMBERS GAME OF HOPING FOR A FINE INSTEAD OF PAYING TO REPLACE ANY PARTS. ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY ARE DEALING WITH A PR BATTLE ABOUT MAKING CARS OUTSIDE OF THE USA. THEY TOOK THE BAILOUT MONEY AND SCREWED AMERICANS.

THE ENGINE IS UNABLE TO RECEIVE CONSISTENT FUEL WHEN YOU START THE VEHICLE. IT REQUIRES PUSHING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL MULTIPLE TIMES AND RESTARTS TO GET THE ENGINE GOING. THEN, WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE LOSES FUEL AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO TURN OFF AND ESSENTIALLY DIE. THIS HAS PUT ME IN 2 NEAR WRECK INCIDENTS ALREADY DESPITE THE GM DEALERSHIPS SAYING THERE IS NO ISSUE.

THE PICKUP SHAKES AT SPEEDS TYPICALLY BETWEEN 30-45 AND 55-75. IT SHAKES HARD ENOUGH AND LONG ENOUGH AT TIMES WHERE AT HIGHER SPEEDS BECOMES DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT COMPROMISES THE STEERING WHERE THE TRUCK CAN COME OFF ITS LINE AND BECOME UNSTABLE. IT WILL ALSO SHAKE RANDOMLY AND FOR UNKNOWN PERIODS OF TIME. WHEN IT STARTS I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER IT AND NO CONTROL OVER WHEN IT STARTS OR STOPS. I HAVE BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALER A COUPLE TIMES NOW. THE FIRST TIME THEY SAID I NEEDED TO REBALANCE THE WHEELS AND PUT ON NEW TIRES SO I DID BOTH. THE SECOND TIME THEY SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN WHEN IT DEACTIVATES 4 CYLINDERS. THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND IT SEEMS THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS SPECIFIC ENGINE AND GM IS CLAIMING THERE IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS COMPLETELY FALSE AS THE TRUCK BECOMES UNSTABLE AND STEERING IS COMPROMISED. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE ESPECIALLY IF THIS CONTINUES INTO WINTER MONTHS WHERE ROAD CONDITIONS ARE NOT THE BEST.

6.2L ENGINE HAD FAULTY INJECTORS AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. GM SAID MY TRUCK HAD A WARRANTY BLOCK SO I HAD TO CONTACT THE BBB AND GO TO MEDIATION TO GET INJECTORS REPLACED. NOW I'M NOTICING A SHUDDER (VIBRATION) WHILE DRIVING WITH A FLUTTERING OF THE RPM'S. ALL MY RESEARCH HAS LED ME TO BELIEVE IT IS A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER. MY WIFE HAS A 2017 CAMARO THAT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY ARE REPLACING THE FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTERS IN VEHICLES WITH 8 SPEED TRANSMISSION, BUT WILL NOT REPLACE MINE BECAUSE GM HAS PUT A BLOCK ON MY WARRANTY. GM CANNOT PROVIDE ANY EVIDENCE GIVING THEM REASON TO BLOCK MY WARRANTY ON MY VEHICLE.

WHEN VARIABLE TIMING OF VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN TWO CYLINDERS, SWITCHING TRUCK FROM V6 TO V4 WITH RPM'S AT OR BELOW 1,500K, THE TRUCK BEGINS TO MISS/SHUTTER. THIS OCCURS AND ON ROAD TYPE, ANY WEATHER CONDITION. AT TIMES THE VIBRATIONS OF THIS MISS/SHUTTER CAN BE A BIT VIOLENT. IF FURTHER ACCERATE TO FORCE THE TRUCK BACK INTO V6 MODE, THE ISSUE RESOLVES ITSELF BUT AS SOON AS THE TRUCK SWITCHES BACK TO V4 MODE, THE PROBLEMS BEGINS AGAIN IMMEDIATELY. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK AT DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT 5 TIMES WITH NO RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. INSTEAD, THE TECHNICIANS CONTINUE TO PERFORM UNRELATED WORK ITEMS THAT DO NOT ALLEVIATE THE REAL ISSUE. UPON MY LAST SERVICE FOR THE ISSUE I WAS INFORMED THAT "GM DOESN'T CURRENTLY HAVE A SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM" AND THAT ALL OF THE SERVICE WORK THAT THE TECHNICIANS CONTINUE TO PERFORM IS "NOTHING MORE THAN A WAY TO TRY TO MASK THE SYMPTOMS SO THAT YOU DON'T NOTICE IT." UPON RESEARCHING, I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE HAS ARISEN IN MULTIPLE GM TRUCKS. THE LONG TERM AFFECTS, WHICH ARE UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME, ARE A CONCERNING.

IN ADDITION THE TRUCK WILL START TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 75-80 MPH. GMC SERVICE PERFORMED TSB CHANGING OUR ENGINE MOUNTS BUT THAT HAS NOT FIXED THE ISSUE.
