The 6.2L engine failed. The same as the 2021-2024 recalls.
The truck had a lifter failure which caused the pushrod to bend damaging the camshaft as well. I spent $5000 dollars just for the problem to happen again. I’ve have spent nearly $10000 on this issue. This not something you expect from a truck that you pay nearly $60000 for.
Driving on highway truck lose power, engine lights start to flash and cracking noises start to come from engine. The lose of speed almos cause another vehicle to rear end me, Truck gave no signs or warnings before. Truck was delivered to a local shop and due abundant amount of metal flakes in oil engine need to be replaced
GM declared my original engine as unfixable and decided to replace my engine luckily with 2 weeks remaining in warranty. It had similar clicking noise to everything else I've seen related to this 6.2L having issues. It currently has a new engine that can be inspected if need be. As well as receipt given to me from Klein Chevy from engine replacement. My engine could've failed while driving if I didnt notice the clicking noise prior to getting it looked at. Putting other in danger if driving on a public roadway. Yes the noise/defect was reproducible upon dealer looking at it. Unsure if the vehicle was inspected by the actual manufacturer but they removed my motor and sent it back to the factory. Was never inspected by police or insurance that im aware of There was no check engine light or warning lamps, only thing I noticed was a clicking noise that the common layman would have probably missed, they appeared roughly around 46,000 miles.
Engine Failure 6 Nov 2025 Yes, engine is available for inspection. Possible loss power, unable to control the vehicle. Vehicle engine failure has been confirmed by dealership, Ruben Milton Chevrolet and Jim Hudson Cadillac in Augusta Georgia. Vehicle has not been inspection by manufacturer, police, insurance representatives. No warning light, no knocking noise, no messages on dashboard.
While driving at highway speeds, multiple warning lights illuminated on the dashboard at the same time, including engine and powertrain warnings. The vehicle suddenly began operating abnormally, with loss of power and unstable driving behavior, making it unsafe to continue driving. This same issue has occurred multiple times previously and the vehicle has been taken to an authorized Chevrolet dealership for repairs on three separate occasions. Each time, repairs were performed, but the problem returned. The most recent incident occurred while driving on the highway and created a serious safety risk to the driver and other vehicles. The vehicle is not safe to drive.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormally loud engine camshaft bearing sound coming from the engine. The engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, and after three days, it was determined that the camshaft bearing had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact linked the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) and NHTSA Action Number: EA25007 (Engine and Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Based on information from ODI Resume EA25007 & Safety Recall N252494002, it is more than likely engine connecting rod bearing failure. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I was traveling at freeway speed, 70mph when it occurred. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? 11/25/25 at 12:33 (pacific), I am currently stranded 190 miles from home and waiting for the truck to be towed to the dealer. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? It has not. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Prior to Failure: Since I’ve owned the vehicle, I’ve notice slight ticking and slight knocking during cold start within the engine bay. At the time the noises seemed normal and not cause-for-concern. At Time of Failure: I was traveling on level grade on the highway when I heard a deep knock from the front, bottom left side of the engine bay. Within about a minute from the initial noise, I received a “check engine” warning light and a message of “ESC Warning” displayed on my instrument cluster. At that moment, I noticed the engine noise become more prevalent and constant. I immediately slowed and coasted to my next exit off the freeway.
The Engine began to make a knocking noise at ~62000 miles on the odometer. I assume it was bearing failure. MURREY CHEVROLET GMC diagnosed the problem as catastrophic engine failure with the repair being a replacement of the engine. There were no warning lamps. This is a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado High Country with the 6.2L engine.
Fan started running non stop, we overheated, engine cut out and says reduced power. This diesel engine has 80k miles which is nothing for a diesel.
Loss of power when driving and a shutter feeling when accelerating. I took the vehicle to the dealership for repairs and was told the torque converter was replaced due to it being faulty but problem still persists.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, there was an abnormal pop and ticking sound coming from under the hood. The check engine and several other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local independent dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failure in cylinder #7 and piston failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,600.
Mileage: 99,600
Driving at normal highway speeds, "service parking brake", "service engine", and "electronic stability control" lights illuminated on the dash with no prior warning. When attempting to accelerate, to maintain highway speed there was noticeable roughness to the engine along with a tapping sound. I slowed and made the trip back to my home under reduced power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer the following day per the dealer's service advisor instructions. Issue was diagnosed as a collapsed lifter, bent lifter rod and damaged cam lobe. Total repair cost exceeded $10,000. Internet search of this issue reports a number of drivers reporting similar issues with the Chevrolet 5.3 liter engine. If this issue had occurred in a more congested traffic area it could have caused an accident when my engine power was suddenly reduced without warning.
While driving on a residential side street my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (81,996 miles) suddenly lost power steering and braking with no waring. Several messages appeared in the dash and the check engine light illuminated. I was able get the vehicle safely to the shoulder and put in park without power steering or brakes. At this point the engine stalled and would not restart. The vehicle was towed to the nearest Chevy dealer on 10/29/2025. The technician verified the loss of power steering, brakes, and several other codes and diagnosed the issue as corroded engine grounding straps per GM bulletin #23-NA-201. The grounding straps were replaced and the codes cleared. The technician test drove the vehicle and verified normal operation after the repair. I was responsible for paying the full cost of these repairs as my vehicle was out of warranty. I feel incredibly fortunate that this happened on a residential side street with no traffic. Had this failure happened on the expressway while pulling my 4,000 lb trailer, this could have been a fatal accident if I suddenly lost power steering, brakes and had the engine stall like it did. I see multiple complaints for this issue on the NHTSA website and the GM TSB for this issue dates back to 2023. I am shocked that this is not a nationwide recall yet. It is a significant safety threat to the driver and others. I also know this is not an isolated incident, as my service advisor at the dealer suggested it was probably the grounding straps before the technician even inspected my vehicle. It was pretty clear from our conversation that I was not the first vehicle they had repaired with this issue.
my 2020 High Country Deluxe 6.2 L87 GM Motor: At Every Cold startup, the engine sound is erratic and sounds like metal on metal for internal combustion for approximately 2 seconds until the newly designed two-stage, variable displacement vane-type pump oil sump pump. The biggest issue that I have with this design is, with a 2 stage pump, depending on the engine rpm, according to GM is Possible lower psi to pump the oil to the top end Valve assembly. In addition, the OW/20 oil IMHO is too thin and does not have the Viscosity to lubricate the motor properly. GM Fix (for 2021 -2024 L87 6.2 motors was to change the viscosity to 5W/30 Supercar Synthetic oil, add a leaf to the owners manual to dictate the oil viscosity change and changing the oil cap from 0W/20 to 5W30. 10-speed Hydra-Matic 10L80: Hard upshifts and downshifts intermittently and confusion of proper gears. There is a TSB regarding this specific Valve Body and torque converter issues. Finally: When deactivating DFM Random cylinders as needed by ECM-TCM-BCM, the lifters are staying in the collapsed state and cant return to full height resulting in bent push rods, rocker arm damage, Camshaft damage, crankshaft damage and Catastrophic engine Failure. It now seems that NHTSA has issued a New Federal Probe into the remaining 2019-2021 L87 6.2 motors.
Summary: While driving, the transmission intermittently fails to shift and the truck has locked up and screeched to a complete halt approximately four times, creating a sudden stop/near rear‑end‑collision risk. Details & timeline: First symptoms were around 55,010 miles. On 10/13/2024 the Chevrolet dealer performed “SERVICE TRANSMISSION GM” (fluid & filter), but the condition continued. In April 2025, a shop documented DTC P0700 & P2727 (pressure‑control solenoid), burnt transmission fluid, and clutch material in the pan, and recommended replacing the transmission, transmission cooler, and cooler lines. Earlier, the transmission control module was reprogrammed, and oil cooler lines were replaced, but the truck still intermittently fails to shift while driving. The check engine light has illuminated during some events. Engine safety concern: During the same period the engine oil was found very low/“no oil on dipstick” with no external leaks; an oil‑consumption test was recommended, raising concern about internal engine damage and possible contamination from the transmission failure. Safety impact: The lock‑up / abrupt stop events occurred while the vehicle was in motion at approximately [~speed and road type, e.g., 35–55 mph on city/secondary roads], forcing hard braking by vehicles behind me. This presents a risk of sudden loss of propulsion and crash. Frequency: About four lock‑up events so far; shifting failures are intermittent and ongoing. Current status: Vehicle at ~73,000 miles. A Chevrolet dealer is being asked to perform a factory diagnosis and to submit a manufacturer goodwill/warranty review.
Lifter failure
Engine idling rough shaking stalling loss of power
Truck experienced reduce power mode. Took to have codes ran and it showed 24 separate codes when engine light comes on. While riding down the road, truck will go into reduce power mode, shift automatically into 4x4, and several other notifications will appear. Taking to dealership and was told the electrical wiring harness was shorting out causing this issue. Cost around $700 for repair, happened one month later, took it back and no charge for the 2nd time. It is currently in reduced power now. Dealership stated to replace the wiring harness would cost over $3,000. Dealership stated this was a manufactures defect, but no recall was issued so all cost is on the owner.
After completing a GM assisted engine rebuild the transmission oil pump is failing and transmission shifting era tic.
Coolant control valve failure. Dealer inspected vehicle and it was confirmed that it needed to be replaced. Check engine light came on fan started spinning at a high speed and the vehicle went into low power mode. When I spoke with the dealer, this is a known issue so much to the point where the cooler control valve is on backorder and I’ve had to wait for over a month now. Projected cost to replace with labor is over $3000.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at a moderate speed, the fuel warning light had appeared on the instrument panel. After fueling the vehicle at a gas station, the vehicle began to hesitate while depressing the accelerator pedal, with several warning lights, including the "Engine Power Reduced" and "Service ESC" illuminated. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer. The dealer informed the contact that the starter needed to be replaced because the vehicle had failed to start. The mechanic performed a diagnostic test and discovered that the fuel injectors were defective and leaking fuel into the engine. The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure and provided the contact with an estimate for repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

Engine shut off while driving and was unable to restart.
While driving the active fuel management changed my truck from 4 cylinders to 8 cylinders. This is when I heard a loud bang and a bunch of lights came on the dash and my truck started shaking and shuttering. I was able to regain control of it, but I came close to crashing. I now require a whole new engine at 100000 miles. After talking to multiple shops this ks a known issue. While they dont always catastrophic fail, mine did and almost cost me to crash. This is a serious safety concern.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a loud knocking sound coming from the engine compartment, and the vehicle shook violently, with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.

My problem is the same as many others with the 3.0 Duramax engine. I h e the P0016 code indicating the the timing chain that can cost up to $10k and sudden engine failure if not repaired. My vehicle is only 5 years old and has 98K miles at the moment.
I was on a trip to Iowa and noticed a loud ticking noise starting in my engine. There was no warning lights on the dash to indicate any problems. I checked the oil and notice it was not registering on the dip stick. I added over a quart of oil and the noise continued. My truck was just at a dealer 2 weeks prior for an oil change and they noted that everything was good and in proper working order. No leaks or no other issues. I set up an appointment at a chevy dealer at the destination which I was traveling to for a check up. About 60 miles from the dealership, my check engine light went on. I immediately stopped and checked all my fluids which were showing normal ranges. I dropped my truck off for inspection and they advised me that my lifters need to be replaced. I authorized the repair and after the new ones where installed, they tested my truck and noticed that there was still a ticking noise coming from the engine and was not holding any oil pressure. They advised me that the motor needed to be replaced at a cost of almost $15,000. I will request all pictures and videos taken by the dealership for further inspection if needed.
While driving in Southern Utah my truck gave me a Service ESC (Electronic Stability Control) Warning, Service Parking Brake Warning, and check engine light that was for code P0303. I had the vehicle towed to the local Chevrolet dealership and it was diagnosed with lifter failure and camshaft damage because of the lifter failure. Safety was compromised because of the failure of the ESC and the loss of power and stability of the engine. I didn't receive warnings prior to the failure. This appears to be a well-known issue with several service bulletins issued for the vehicle.
Had sudden engine failure at 82k and have been told I need a new engine. Can't afford it, GM says there's nothing they can do to help cover the repairs. I have a new engine on backorder, nobody knows when it will be in, they told me they have other customers who have been waiting for new engines for months.
There was a significant oil leak that was diagnosed during a routine oil change in March of 2025. The dealership that identified the leak attempted to pass it off as something that was out of warranty even though the vehicle had an additional six months and 45,000 miles of warranty (3.0 diesel). The leak was significant enough that loss of oil could cause the engine to fail and result in a crash. Subsequently, another dealership identified the leak and repaired the seal around the lower crankcase. It did not repair the oil leak- there are three additional reports/complaints to file.
This is for the second oil leak that occurred in the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado with the 3.0 diesel engine. It was identified as a leak in the oil pan. The previous repair was for the lower crankcase seal. The service advisor at the dealership stated this is another problem area with the Chevrolet 3.0 diesel engine, and a defect from the manufacturer. He also mentioned it is a common repair they complete on these LM2 engine. It is worth noting, the initial repair didn't last 60 days before another oil leak presented itself. This is the second of four repairs that were done on this vehicle. **No loaner vehicle was given during the repair.**
The second oil leak repair and the first repair for the oil pan failed within one week of the previous repair. This is the third oil leak that occurred in the LM2 engine in the 2020 Silverado. It was identified as an additional leak in the oil pan which had already been repaired the week prior. This is a failure within seven days from the previous repair. I lost 1/2 quart of oil during a 650-mile drive back from vacation. I took pictures of the oil level before leaving and driving home. During our drive, we passed through an area called Yermo where it was 107 degrees at 11am. The two closest Chevrolet dealerships are either 45 minutes or 1.5 hours one-way. I was incredibly frustrated since imagine being stranded in 107-degree weather with your family on the side of the road unable to run AC. It is a serious life, health, and safety issue at this point. I called GM and opened a case expecting them to assist me with the issues with the truck. Fast forward to today, I spoke with Jill at GM, they closed the case without even reaching out to me. This was the third of four oil repairs that have been conducted on my vehicle and the LM2 engine. It isn't a safe engine to have. **No loaner vehicle was given during the repair.**
After three oil leak repairs in my LM2 3.0 diesel engine in my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado RST, you would think that would be enough to repair the manufacturer's defects, but it wasn't. I think the saying is fourth time is the charm? The third repair which was a second oil pan lasted a whopping 48 hours before leaking. This time it ended up being the timing chain cover that was leaking. Again, the service advisor mentioned that these are known to leak too due to a defect from the manufacturer. I even got a call from the service manager, and he said that anything area that could and does leak oil on these LM2 engines has been replaced and/or repaired, so I should be good for the future. I called into GM as per their instructions to update them on the fourth oil leak, and where the repairs were taking place. Fast forward to nearly two months later, and no one from GM attempted to contact me, and Jill stated that the case was closed and wouldn't disclose why. The only thing she could do was open another case. I declined since GM couldn't be bothered to address the issues they know they have in the LM2. The dealership the work was done in, the service advisors, the service techs, and the service manager all discussed in great detail the issues Chevrolet is having with the 3.0 diesel engine. GM knows this and refuses to address this. At this point, my vehicle spent 37 days in 2.5 months at the dealership fixing oil leaks that at any time could have caused engine failure and resulted in a crash. This truck is our dedicated family vehicle as my wife and I each daily Subaru WRX's. GM has done nothing and will do nothing. Someone needs to issue recalls to address the oil leak issues with the LM2 before it results in someone's death. I wish I wouldn't have wasted time contacting GM. I should have filed these complaints and got legal representation for the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. **NO loaner vehicle was given during the entire 37-day repair duration.**
Motor suddenly loss power and load knocking noise. After taking it to the dealer they said that number 3 cyl.connecting rod had an issue . This sounds like the same recall for the 2021 to 2024 6.2 engines. They gave me a quote for a new engine ( 20000) that was not available for 4 to 5 weeks if not more. I was on vacation at the time and ended up buying a new truck from them. I was not happy.
Lifter failure on the 5.3L L84 engine. Due to Dynamic fuel management that come with the trucks.
Having failure with the engine coolant control valve. Have taken my truck to the dealership for overheating and they always come and say that they can’t find an issue. They also informed me that I need to bring it back when my motor blows a head gasket which is complete bull.
About 3 months after the 5 year 100000 mi warranty with only 70000 miles on the duramax diesel engine the exhaust brake part of the engine emissions/exhaust split along the weld. Have seen a number of these reported on the internet as well. Sounds like a manufacturing problem. The vehicle's check engine light came on and it's now at the dealership getting a new exhaust brake housing and bracket replaced. If this was in California or the 12 states listed would be covered for 8yrs/100000 miles.
Engine seized my truck has been at the Chevorlet Tempe dealership I filed a claim with GM still no response.
My 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT with the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine has experienced three separate failures of the coolant control valve over a span of less than two years. Each failure resulted in the vehicle entering reduced engine power mode, which drastically limits acceleration and the ability to maintain safe driving speeds — particularly dangerous on highways or in heavy traffic. Chronology of Failures: October 2023: First coolant control valve failure. Part was backordered. Repair took ~6 weeks. June 2024: Second failure of the same part. Another 6-week delay in repair due to part availability. June 2025: Third failure of the same part. Vehicle is currently inoperable and unsafe to drive. Each time, the failure triggered a check engine light and immediately placed the truck into reduced power mode. This issue significantly compromises driver safety, especially in high-speed or congested environments, where limited acceleration can increase the risk of collisions. Safety Concerns: Loss of acceleration power at critical times (merging, overtaking, etc.) Unpredictable vehicle behavior Extended unavailability of parts leads to prolonged periods without a functional vehicle Possible underlying design flaw or recurring part defect Given the recurrence, safety risks, and the number of similar complaints I have seen from other owners, I believe this is a widespread and systemic defect that deserves NHTSA investigation. Requested Action: I urge the NHTSA to investigate the frequency and root cause of coolant control valve failures on the 3.0L Duramax engine in the 2020–2022 Silverado models. This is not an isolated incident, and repeated failures of a critical engine cooling component warrant a safety recall or technical service bulletin (TSB) requiring redesign or replacement with a permanent fix.
Lifter failure and miss fire
I was driving and came to a stop at a red light. When accelerating on green the transmission would not go into gear, stalling my vehicle. Nearly causing the vehicle behind me to rear end me. The vehicle eventually went into gear and started to slowly accelerate with shuttering of the transmission.
2020 Chevy Silverado LTZ 6.2 V8 10 Speed. Started having issues with hesitation/shudder. Dropped off at a Chevrolet dealership for a diagnostic. The dealership pointed to a potential transmission issue. After having the truck for several days, they reported nothing wrong. Said they drove the truck, checked the transmission fluid, and couldn't find any issues. Picked up the truck and took it to a local repair shop. That shop drove it, but could not re-create the issue I was describing. I opted to have the transmission fluid flushed in hopes of fixing the shudder/hesitation I was feeling. After picking up the truck and driving it a couple hundred miles, the issue was still present. I made another appointment at the same local shop. This time, they called me saying the issue I'm feeling is the same problem that's been happening to these engines, the dreaded AFM (Active Fuel Management) system is starting to fail. I was told by the shop it's only a matter of time before the entire engine fails. The only way to fix the issue is to delete the AFM system by removing the old parts within the engine and replacing with new parts that do not use the AFM system. This would cost approximately $6,000 to complete.
Was driving on the interstate on [XXX]. While driving, the truck suddenly slowed down and lost power. The check engine light came on and then after about a minute a message popped up on the dash saying that the truck was in reduced-power mode to prevent engine damage, or something like that. It slowed to roughly 50mph and I had to drive for maybe 5 miles to reach the next exit, narrowly avoiding collision from behind with cars driving upwards of 75. Pulled off the road to the first parking lot, then got towed to the nearest Chevy dealership in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The diagnosis was a blown connecting rod that had occurred while driving on the interstate, resulting in a necessary total engine replacement. The truck was repaired in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the dealership. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
While driving my truck the engine completely shut down. All the dash lights came on initially but then only the check engine light stayed on. My truck never would start back up after that. It was towed to GM dealership who diagnosed catastrophic engine failure.
Was driving on highway and vehicle went into "engine power reduced" and dropped from 60mph down to 35mph and then steadily decelerated down and wouldn't go over 18mph. Per mechanic it is the engine coolant control valve and the part is not available and could be months to a year before the part is available. Online shows this is a widespread issue with GM / Chev vehicles but no recall has been ordered and parts not available anywhere. Completely unacceptable to pay $65000 for a vehicle that is just barely 5 years old and have this kind of issue and manufacturer doing nothing about it.
When a Check engine light is on it's for a low voltage on the charge air coolant sensor, took to the chevy dealer, they replaced a connector to the sensor, at a cost of $600 never got off lot, light returned, they then said I need a new engine wiring harness at a cost of $10.000, the dealership said this is a problem with these trucks and GM knows about it but won't recall them. Now I'm struck with a 5-year-old truck that I can't use, When this light is on, I also receive an Emission system warning, and the truck deregulates and goes in limp mode. as speed is reduced it becomes dangerous to drive in traffic, as GM knows about this, they should recall these trucks and fix the problem, they even say it's because cutting corners on the wiring harness cover causes this problem. as a senior living on a fixed income there's no way my wife or I can get this repaired, so were forced to drive it in limp mode until it dies on us, hopefully not in heavy traffic.
Oil pump went out. Got it repaired. Then, a few days later, while driving on the freeway at 70MPH the engine made a lot of noise then quit in middle of the freeway leaving me vulnerable to being hit. Was able to coast in neutral to the edge of the road. Has 73000 miles on it. Dealer says I need an engine replacement after just spending $5,500 for oil pump replacement. Has been at the dealer over a month and no replacement engine is available.
The engine seized up. Yeah, the truck is at a trusted mechanic and he told me that the engine seized. No warning signs. The truck wouldn't start and the engine light was on.
The lifters failed which caused the camshaft to destroy itself. I am now looking at having to replace my entire motor because of this. This is a similar problem to the current recall going on with the 2021 through 2024 trucks with the same motor. I have 146,000 mi on my truck
Cylinder Four misfire code. PO304 Dealer has discovered lifter failure. Total to replace all lifters on effected side $4300.00 Vehicle is garage kept and serviced per required dealership. All service records have been kept. No other issues with Truck 83K miles.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 75 MPH, the electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, and check engine warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that several safety features failed to operate. The contact stated that there was a popping sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the side of the road to turned off the vehicle and waited before restarting the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

My husband was driving our family truck onto the highway to merge into traffic, when he lost all engine power, several dash lights turned on, and a clanking noise started. This was an extremely dangerous situation because the truck stalled, while trying speed up into highway traffic. He swerved to avoid cars and pulled off to the right shoulder. This a major safety issue because if either of my teenage daughters had been driving the truck, they would likely not have been able to avoid an accident! Mechanics confirmed the truck had suffered a catastrophic engine failure while driving. The dealership confirmed a lifter failed causing the damage. They said the whole engine had to be replaced. GM offered to pay half of cost, proving they know this is an issue. The truck's not even 5 years old, so the fact that engine would just stop while driving, when we had kept up with regular maintenance, sounded bizarre to me. I researched online and learned of 2 class action lawsuits (CA & MI) claiming GM knows about this defect in their engine and continuing to sell trucks with the same safety issue. Not more than 2 weeks after our incident, hundreds of thousands of the 6.3L engines were recalled after a NHTSA investigatio. GM has issued several service bulletins internally on "failing lifters", but has not told the public of the safety hazard. The service bulletins acknowledge the issue, recommending GM mechanics use a lighter oil (SAE-0W20 instead of the customary SAE-0W40) or change the oil more frequently. (service update N212353840). But car owners don't know this! GM is putting lives at risk, as no one expects their engine to completely give out while on the highway. Thankfully, my husband has been driving for 35 years. Had it been a younger, more inexperienced driver, they would not have been able to recover from the engine failure, especially while merging into high speed traffic - causing a crash, injuries and possibly death. The public deserves to know.
A few month ago this 2020 Silverado check engine came on in the middle of driving. It stopped shifting and almost caused an accident because it wouldn’t stop. I took it to the dealer and they found nothing wrong. Today, it is doing the same thing with faulty shifting, especially during first and second gears and when I initially accelerate. It is jumpy and worried and accident will happen if the car stops shifting like before. The check engine light is on again
I am reporting an issue with a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 equipped with the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine. The vehicle experienced a failure of the NOx Sensor Position 2, which significantly impacted performance and emissions compliance. GM previously issued Emission Recall N212351211 (March 7, 2023) for other diesel Silverado models regarding improper ECM detection of NOx sensor faults. The issue in my vehicle appears functionally identical, yet this engine and model were not included in that recall. The sensor was replaced and reprogrammed at a Chevrolet dealership at the owner's expense. After contacting Chevrolet, a customer retention check was provided, covering roughly half of the total cost. While appreciated, the remaining cost burden remains significant. If this model is eventually included in the recall, it may allow for full reimbursement and support for other affected owners. Online forums show that many 3.0L Duramax owners are experiencing similar failures, suggesting this may be a widespread and systemic defect. Due to the strong similarities with the recalled condition in other models, I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether this recall should be expanded to cover additional affected vehicles. This issue presents both reliability and emissions compliance concerns. In addition, the vehicle developed a separate mechanical/electrical problem shortly after the NOx sensor failure. Because it involves different systems, I will file a separate complaint regarding that issue.
I’m reporting a safety concern involving a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine. The vehicle went into limp mode and died on the side of the road. AAA installed a new battery, which temporarily restored operation, though the “Service Charging System” warning remained. I drove it home, let it sit for several days, and then took it to a Chevrolet dealership. Although the warning light had cleared, I brought it in out of caution. The first dealer diagnosed a failed alternator and recommended replacement at a cost of $2,158.75. I was also told the vehicle was not included in any active recalls related to this issue. Believing the price was high and wanting a second opinion, I went to another Chevrolet dealer. They ran the same diagnostic and found no issue with the alternator or generator, charging only a diagnostic fee. They also said if the alternator had needed replacement, the cost would have been around $1,300. I mentioned to both dealers that I had seen similar alternator/charging system failures recalled on other 2020 Silverado models. Online forums and customer complaints suggest that many Silverado 1500 trucks with the 3.0L Duramax are experiencing similar problems, indicating a potentially broader issue. Given the inconsistency in diagnostics, the significant cost discrepancy, and the number of similar consumer reports, I believe this issue may be more widespread than current recalls reflect. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether the existing recall should be expanded or if a new recall should be issued for 2020 Silverado 1500 models equipped with the 3.0L Duramax. This issue occurred shortly after a separate failure related to the NOx sensor, which I am submitting under a separate complaint.
The sensor was replaced and reprogrammed at a Chevrolet dealership at the owner’s expense.
I have the L87 6.2 liter V8 engine from General Motors. I had sudden engine failure. Apparently the rods and bearings are bad. It is the same problem as the recall issued for 2021-2024 vehicles, exept for my truck is a year 2020. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Lifter issues, loss of power, flashing check engine light
On [XXX] I pulled off from a Red Light and vehicle started flashing codes. I slowed down and engine was missing. I had vehicle towed to Gilmore's Auto Center in Culpeper Virginia. The truck was diagnosed later that day as a Rod Bearing failure. The engine gave no warnings prior to that day. The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated after an independent mechanic had performed an oil change on the vehicle, the vehicle was moved and parked. The contact stated that upon attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The mechanic diagnosed that the engine had seized and there were metal shavings in the oil. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the manufacturer had denied coverage because the vehicle was previously serviced by an independent mechanic. The vehicle was repaired at the contact's expense. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE25001 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). Additionally, the contact stated while idling and while driving at various speeds, the vehicle made an abnormal whining sound. The vehicle was taken to Bomnin Chevrolet Dadeland (8455 S Dixie Hwy, Miami, FL 33143), where it was diagnosed that the transmission was failing and there were metal shavings found in the transmission. The dealer replaced the transmission. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

The vehicle was being used in a normal daily driving routine. I was stopped(fortunately) at a traffic light. The light turned green and I went to proceed and began to press the gas pedal and the engine made a loud pop noise and began to barely stay running. I brought the vehicle to the shop(GM dealership) for diagnosis and repair. The motor had to be rebuilt new camshaft, lifters, etc. The vehicle is also having transmission issues, heavy vibration, hard shifts and constant fluctuations in the rpms while maintaining a set speed. The transmission issue still has not been resolved.
chevy has a well known issue with lifters failing in the 5.3 motor because of the afm. it has failed on me twice and had to pay twice to get this fixed and i’m concern one day the engine will just blow like other people have complained about. i even went to the dealership and even spoke to the part department and they have admitted this but no fix for it has been put in place. we need a recall on this motor that’s effecting thousands of people.
While highway driving on 4/8/2025, for the 3rd time in 3 months, engine light came on and I lost all control of my cruise control, parking brake disabled and loss of engine power immediately reducing my highway speed to approximately 50 mph which was very dangerous. I had to cautiously return home & called the Chevy dealer immediately. They had repaired the lifters twice before, with the most recent repair on the lifters and push rod just one month earlier. This second repair was covered under their repair warranty. Currently, it took about 10 days before a loaner car was available (after a poor google review). To date (4/30/2025) I have not received ANY feedback from the dealer (Starling Chevrolet in Mt. Pleasant, SC) regarding any repair or engine diagnosis. The symptoms of this third failure was just like the previous two failures (3 failures in 3 months!). I feel like this vehicle has Major issues as I have also had to have the radio/infotainment system replaced twice since the original purchase. PLEASE have Chevrolet do an engine recall on their 5.7 liter engine!!
While traveling on a rural state highway, the #8 lifter bearing failed, causing the engine to lose considerable power and the dash light to come on. No advanced warning of engine problems was noticed prior. The transmission also went into limp mode not allowing the vehicle to shift gears. At the same time the ABS and ESC systems also went into a safety mode diminishing the stopping power of the vehicle. Upon inspection by a licensed mechanic it was discovered that the #8 lifter bearing and the camshaft were both damaged at that time. Total replacement cost was over 10k and it took almost 6 months to find a rebuilt L87 engine at that time because there was almost no supply available as a result of these engines having multiple failures nationwide
I just saw a recall for 2021-2024 vehicles for connecting rod/crankshaft engine components. I am not 100% sure that i have the same problem but my warning signs are the same. For example, there is a knocking sound in engin, it shifts abnormally and it hesitates and has reduced propulsion. I talked to several other Trail boss owners that had to have their Lifters repaired so maybe it is that? These problems are happening to everyone prior to even hitting 70k miles. I cannot afford to fix this if it is a problem that shouldnt be happening in the first place, due to crappy manufacturing.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power, with the check engine, Service ESC, and the “Service Parking Brake” warning lights were flashing. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine was blown, and the engine needed to be taken apart for additional diagnostic tests. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the cam phaser and lifters had failed and the engine long block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 104,000.

Driving vehicle down freeway about 75mph heard noise and truck shut speeds down to about 60mph on a major freeway. Per mechanic lifter has collapsed and it has been a common issue that Chevy knows about. He said that it could have been alot worse by seizing the engine and causing harm to drive or other people around causing a major accident. There is a major safety issue to life and or death caused by this issue that has NOT been a concern and causing people to pay over $5000.00 for repairs. Chevy has known about the faulty lifters for years and doesn't seem to care about safety concerns.
On Feb 10, 2025 while in busy mid-day traffic on the highway going 55mph my vehicle without any warning signs or warning messages on dash, or dash indicator lights suddenly went into limp mode , began making a loud knocking from the engine, and started shutting down. I stopped the vehicle as soon as I safely could do so and had it towed back to the selling dealer for them to diagnose the issue. The dealer then informed me that i had a bent lifter on the left bank but they did this based on codes and not any tear down. They referred me to another local dealer. I had my vehicle towed there where they also stated lifter. Once they began to replace the lifters on the left bank scarring was found on my #3 cylinder wall and at that point I was told that my truck had catastrophic engine failure and the engine would have to be replaced. They also told me that my truck had no oil in it and the issue was caused from carbon build up. I have had every maintenance service performed on time and at the selling dealer and have all service records. I was not overdue on maintenance. I have never been told about any oil leaks or any other issues that needed to be resolved on my vehicle. I had driven the truck the night before with no issues.. There was no oil on the ground or under the vehicle for them to say there was no oil in the vehicle. I was never told that i needed spark plugs due to carbon. I believe that this has to due with the AFM issue that GM is well aware of. I had to purchase another vehicle due to the damage that was found on this required an engine replacement
The engine failed while I was driving. It started to run very rough and then the check engine light came on as well as multiple other lights. I limped it to my mechanic who found that cylinder #4 had failed and rotated which tore up the cam shaft. Total damages came to 10,404.28. I have all receipts. Safety for myself and others were impacted because it lost power immediately and could have put me or other motorists in a position to react quickly not to crash.
Engine (v8) lost power and made terrible noise at 72,000 miles. Dealer installed a remanufactured engine and charged me $5109 and took 12 weeks to complete the work. GM claimed there were “unaware” of any issues with these engines even though an internet search showed tons and f people with the same problem.
The 2.7L turbo engine failed. The truck is available for inspection. All maintenance has been up to date. It was recently serviced for a seperate recall. The truck gave a reduced engine power message and within minutes lost power. A truck of this age, with maintenance done regularly should not experience engine failure.
The engine seized unexpectedly and without warning during driving. Being sudden and without warning it risked the occupants of the vehicle being injured as they struggled to get off the road and out of harms way on the road. The vehicle was taken to the nearest Chevrolet dealer to be inspected where we were told that the engine had suffered a total engine failure and would need to be replaced entirely. The vehicle WAS inspected and damage confirmed by the dealer at that time. Prior to the failure there were no warnings of any kind.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 50 MPH and making a turn in the opposite direction, the vehicle lost motive power and there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the rod and the lifters had failed, causing damages to the upper half of the engine. The dealer replaced the gaskets, the rods, the guides, the lifters, the camshaft, and the transition kit. Additionally, and oil change was performed. The vehicle was not covered under warranty and was repaired at the customer's expense due to the mileage. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH on another occasion, the vehicle made an abnormally loud clunking sound and lost motive power intermittently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The contact drove back to the residence. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with cylinder #8 intake valve failure. The vehicle was repaired at the contact's expense. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed for the cylinder #8 intake valve spring replacement. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.

At approximately 68K miles, the torque converter failed. Luckily it started going out and we could feel it. It would surge/shudder while driving on the road. We had to have the torque converter replaced at $5k. A dealer replaced the parts. At approximately 90K miles, the lifters started making a loud pinging noise. It turns out the lifters had issues which lead to them being replaced along with the camshaft. It could have failed on the road and left us stranded. The sound of the lifters alerted us. A local shop fixed the issue at a cost of $9K.
Had a check engine code and the dealership diagnosed the problem as being the coolant control valve. However being still under warranty they said that part is no longer covered under powertrain warranty as of Feb 1st. They now want me to pay 4400 for a part that fails often. Is there anything I can do?
6.2 L Engine Failed and is at the Dealership. Technician said a lifter had dropped damaging the intake and the cylinder wall. The problem has been identified by a Dealership Service Center. Only inspection has been by the Dealership. No warning messages pryor to failure. Engine light and some messages came up right when it happened.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 MPH, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that the messages "Reduced Steering Assist”, "Check Engine” and "Service ESC" warning lights were displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle was losing motive power. The contact drove the vehicle back to the residence at reduced power. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that an engine rod was causing the knocking sound. The contact stated that the dealer had not yet determined why the other warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

Component/system that failed: The transmission control module in my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has malfunctioned. The vehicle has issues with slipping between gears, rough shifting, and hesitation when accelerating. This component has already been inspected and diagnosed by a certified Chevrolet dealership, and the part is currently on backorder. The vehicle is available for further inspection upon request. Safety risk: This issue poses a serious safety risk to myself and others. The gear slipping and delayed response when driving—especially when merging onto highways or changing lanes—creates unpredictable behavior that can lead to an accident. The truck sometimes fails to engage gears properly, which makes it dangerous in traffic situations. Diagnosis confirmation: Yes, the problem has been confirmed by a Chevy dealership service advisor (Jose Diaz), who provided a formal quote and diagnosis for the replacement of the transmission control module. Inspection by others: The vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives, but Chevrolet Customer Assistance is currently reviewing the case, and I was advised to submit this documentation. Warning lamps or symptoms: There were no warning lamps initially, Symptoms include slipping gears, hesitation when pressing the gas pedal, jerky shifting, and difficulty accelerating smoothly. These symptoms have progressively worsened over time. Additional context: I have learned that many 2020 Chevrolet Silverado trucks have been recalled for the exact same issue, but my VIN is currently not included. I believe this is a manufacturing defect and that my vehicle should be considered for inclusion in the recall or further investigation.
Before teuck engine collapse. Ww had concerns about truck sounded off. Misfire in engine, knocking noise. Truck shut down. Had it towed. GMC service department concluded that the 5th cylinder not firing properly. Lifters collapse. Fixed, it was costly $10, 100. Truck went back in shop next day mexhanic was busy. Waiting til after weekend to take truck back in. They had to physicallt look at why truck was vibrating. Engine light not showing issue. Neither did the code reader. Mechanic found provle to be the Torque convertor. Need to change that. Said it was a very common problem in Chevy trucks.
-Cylinder number 5 piston failure -Cylinder number 5 cylinder failure -Cylinder number 5 injector failure Vehicle was traveling at roughly 70 mph, everything operating normally. Suddenly check engine light came on, multiple traction control lights, cruise control disabled. Vehicle started to sputter and grey smoke showed out of the exhaust. Pulled over and shut vehicle off, checked oil and coolant level both were normal. Motor temp was slightly above normal. Restarted vehicle and it continued to sputter and smoke. Local shop ran codes that showed injector number 5 loss of signal. Upon further inspection a camera was sent down the number 5 cylinder, cylinder had excessive damage and metal fragments. Large amount of oil seen both on top of piston and on spark plug. It was determined that motor will need to be replaced.
Front main bearing failure. I have 97,000 miles on my truck. I have the 6.2 engine in it. I see online that GM is having a lot of issues with this engine. My dealer is trying to help me deal with GM, but GM does not want to replace my engine. They want me to pay for it. This issue could have been bad if I was driving at highway speeds with my 2 young daughters in my vehicle with me. Definitely a safety issue.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was a ticking sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that the sound later became an engine knock, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and was later towed back to the residence. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 75,718.

Engine shut off while driving home from work on15 October 2024. Driving home while raining. Engine just stop and wouldn't start again.
From the time my vehicle had 30,000 miles on the engine, the engine light would come on and stay on with no apparent reason. I would take my car to my local Chevrolet dealer each time (by this time the light had gone out) and they could not find a problem. One technician told me that it sounded like a lifter problem that they were experiencing with these model vehicles. This happened approximately 8 to 10 times before the lifter failed. In January 2025, while driving on the Interstate Highway I experienced a sudden engine vibration and immediate 50% loss of power. Upon returning home, I took my truck to my local Chevrolet dealer where I purchased my vehicle. Upon inspection, I was told that it was apparent that a hydraulic lifter had failed. I left my vehicle at the dealership for the repair of the failed lifter which cost me $4,800. Two months later, I experienced the same problem with the engine, more violently vibrating. I again took my vehicle to the dealership and they confirmed another lifter had failed and took it in for repair under warranty from the prior lifter repair. I had again experienced more than 50% engine loss and had to get off of the interstate and travel on a side road because I could not maintain a speed over 45 to 50 mph. They repaired the same failed lifter bank that they had repaired the first time. Now, I am holding my breath, just waiting for the lifters on the other bank to fail for me to have to put in another $4,800-$5,000. I believe that this is an engine flaw that Chevrolet knows about. They have done nothing to fix this issue and have left it on the backs of the customer. Chevrolet needs to be accountable for these types of problems!
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at approximately 15-20 MPH, the message “Engine Power Reduced” was displayed on the instrument panel, and the vehicle started shaking and decelerating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine wiring harness needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that another part needed to be replaced; however, the contact was unable to recall the exact part. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact of a possible number for assistance. The manufacturer had opened a case regarding the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.

Engine misfiring multiple times over a period of 2 or 3 years. Took it to the dealership in Andrews Tx, could not duplicate misfire but saw over 600 misfires on a single cylinder, they said it was fuel pump failure. Replaced fuel pump. After a month misfiring started again. October of 2024 took it to dealership in San Angelo Tx, they were able to duplicate misfire, lifter failure. Replaced lifters and cam as it was beat up. One month after repair, vehicle started shuddering. Took it back to San Angelo service center, transmission issue, torque converter needs to be replaced. I refused the service as I would not spend $5,000 more after spending $10,000 to repair engine.
The engine started making a strange sound while driving. Was taken to dealership were it was found that the engine was going bad due to a lifter failure. The engine only has 64,000. miles on it and was maintained by dealerships for routine service.
Lifter failure in the motor ALso, leaking in back window
I purchased a 2020 Chevy Silverado 2.7 turbo RST from Greg young Chevy in Omaha Nebraska. Upon purchasing this vehicle within 20 days of ownership I got a check engine light indicating code P2090 for exhaust camshaft position sensor. The truck was taken back to the dealership and they at first tried to just clear the code and give the truck back however I put my foot down and requested them to look further into it. After weeks of them having the vehicle they determined there was an issue with the pcv oil separator and they replaced the part allegedly. After reviving the car back they strongly suggested I purchase an extended warranty telling me “you’re going to need it” we purchased the warranty only to discover the code reappearing less than 2,000 miles later and a tic sound in the engine. My independent research has concluded it’s a lifter failure and those lifters are now slamming into my camshaft causing excessive damage. After getting the code read more in depth I can confirm they again just cleared the code and an oil leak is still existent in the engine. This causes the auto stop to disengage which makes the vehicle leech forward when at rest while my foot is still present on the brake as the camshaft does a full rotation to adjust and correct itself to the sensors suggested position. On average this moves the vehicle approximately 1 foot forward and could lead to me damaging my vehicle or causing harm to people in crosswalks.
6.2L V8 had catastrophic failure due to lifters failing while driving at highway speeds.
The engine is blown. Our GM Dealership where we purchased it, inspected it and says the engine cannot be repaired and must be replaced. And independent garage gave the same diagnosis. Went from running fine one day , to bucking and stalling in traffic causing a hazard to everyone on the road. Check engine light, check brakes, stabilitrak, ALL the lights on the dash were on like a Christmas tree. It doesn't run now. Currently sitting in our driveway now unable to be driven for three months as we don't have $10,000.00 for a new engine, and the extended warranty we purchased through the dealership expired 4 months before it blew up. We are now making loan payments on a GM vehicle that did not even last the length of the loan. Seeing a report on this exact issue, we did not even know until today that there was a place we could send in a complaint to. You are welcome to inspect the truck, but you would need to come to us, as it cannot be driven. Where can we get any help with this? Please help.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. Vehicle started miss firing along the highway without any previous signs of problems. The vehicle was driven straight to our home and then to the dealership a few days later. We were told there, the lifters have failed. Once they started the repairs we were also adviced the cam have suffered significant damaged and needed replacement as well. The vehicle was only inspected at the dealership once it was dropped off. The first and only sympton of the insurance was the day it failed.
On January 17, 2025, I was approaching the entrance ramp unto Interstate 10, traveling along at approximately 40 miles an hour, when all of a sudden I noticed that my vehicle started decelerating as I was pressing on the accelerator, trying to merge onto oncoming traffic. The engine started shuttering and vibrating violently! I noticed all the warning lights, gauges and indicators had come on simultaneously! There was a loud clicking sound coming from the engine compartment and backfiring coming from the exhaust. I evaluate the situation at hand and conduct a risk assessment of trying to continue on with this problem but decided to move over to the median. I was almost run into from the rear due to lack of power in which I felt would have been the result of my truck just losing power without any warning. I drove my truck to a Chevrolet dealership after speaking with a Service Advisor, on January 20, 2025. The Truck was diagnosed as needing to replace Cam Rod and Lifters.
At roughly 146,590~ miles the truck began making a knocking noise while driving at any speed, complainant had the truck towed to independent shop and was evaluated. Was told by shop that the engine can shaft pitted and engine metal shards had exploded and shattered throughout the engine. Making the opportunity for engine stalling or risk of fire/ smoking while operating the vehicle extremely likely. Complainant was told there was no access to engine replacements or parts at this time and the wait time to receive one was 4-6 months. No warning lights ever went off. Engine was eventually replaced entirely when the part became available by an independent service dealer.
In November 2023 my check engine light suddenly started flashing, my service parking brake light came on, traction control light came on and service ESC message was on the DIC. Then my truck started running really rough. At the time I was going roughly 10 mph. I took it to the dealership and they found a lifter had failed. My truck was at the dealership for a month. Fast forward to now, February 2025 and today I got the exact same lights appear on my cluster and same message. I was driving approximately 50 mph and my truck felt like there was a lack of power and there was hesitation in the engine.

The engine blew a rod through the engine block and dealership replaced engine June 2023. January 2025 engine abruptly stopped while on the highway at 70 mph and now waiting on diagnostic test from dealership but after reading all the incidents regarding this engine I feel it’s another L87 engine failure from GM
significant loss of power due to engine failure related to DDI while driving.
Vehicle purchased December 2020 Flashing check engine light that stays on- light did not stay on long enough for dealer to see, said they couldn't find any issues. The first time we had it towed and when they looked at it the light was no longer on. They were able to tell us what was going on with the vehicle when the light came on but said there were no problems. Flashing check engine light that turns off- "no light = no problem" dealer says. Eventually they printed pages showing engine misfires which we were initially told was no big deal. Later I was told I should get spark plugs changed, which I did. So far, flashing light has not reoccurred. Burns 3 or more quarts of oil between oil changes which I was assured by more than one rep that that was normal (on numerous occasions). Air conditioning quit working. Heater not working well and not at all on idle. The only setting I can really use to defrost and keep my feet warm is the "floor only" option. Mixed doesn't work, defrost only will freeze feet. Gas smell while vehicle at idle. Initially noticed when using auto start but have since noticed it does it with regular start as well. All issues have been brought to dealership, I will have to contact them for all the exact dates.
I bought this truck with 72,000 miles on it I put about 3,000 miles on it and the engine seized. I had my mechanic inspect it and he confirmed the motor is seized. There was absolutely no warning is just stopped running and left me on the side of the road
• lifters, cam, manifold; failed. no warning, nothing just seized up • left with no power, braking system locked up. • yes; occurred January 2024. everything replaced. received back in March 2024, 10k miles later transmission begins shuttering. January 2025 lifters failed again. • yes it has been evaluated by dealership. they just throw their hands up. • no warning lights prior, driving in winter 30-40degrees weather. brakes seized, truck haulted and upon attempting to accelerate the motor was knocking and done for. January 13th. 11:51AM 2024
Vehicle has been in and out of service for the past 5 months with multiple alerts including "Brake system failure 43mph top speed," "service esc," "service brake assist." On major interstate car would not accelerate past 43mph putting myself, infant, toddler, and wife in danger. Multiple attempts have been made to repair the vehicle and nothing has been successful. Lifters, CAM, torque converter, EBCM, master cylinder, calipers, and the list goes on. When this happens the brake is extremely hard to press making it difficult to stop the vehicle. Issue has been reproduced by dealer and attempts have been made under warranty to repair. Car only has 36k miles on it and the issue began prior to that. GM ongoing solution is to bleed the brakes, which clearly has not resolved the issue. Still hear ticking and noises from engine. Something needs to be done to remedy this issue. This is a safety hazard for myself, my family, and everyone driving around me.
While driving home truck began to misfire and drop in RPM’s. Service ESC and Service Parking Brake popped up on my notification system. My Engine light was blinking and my Traction light was on. While i was turning into my street to get home, my engine shut off. The steering wheel and brakes became hard as the motor wasn't powering them. I was able to turn it on and get it into my drive way. Afterwards when trying to turn it on, it would turn on and shut off immediately. Chevy replaces a fuel pump module for a second time(recall), added a new starter and battery. After Three months they then told me I need a new engine because it has locked itself up. I purchased the vehicle with 32,000 miles and It currently has 49,000 miles. Chevrolet are not going to warranty me a new engine because i do my own oil changes (which were 2). Had this happened on the highway or in traffic, i would've been at a high risk of causing an accident considering power steering and brake system was not working properly.
Truck has been burning oil since it was purchased new in 2020. The truck has needed 6 quarts added between every oil change. It has been to the dealer and they insist nothing is wrong. GM customer service has been no help. Motor has a ticking noise. Finally 2 weeks ago check engine lights came on and loud noises came from motor. Brought it into the dealership and they said full lifter failure and engine scoring and has been like this for awhile now. This is something I brought up to them AND GM support over the last 4 years of owning the vehicle and they always told me there was nothing wrong with it. Private extended warranty is going to cover a new engine, but is on national backorder due to all the issues with the 6.2L engine and others having issues GM won’t acknowledge.
Vehicle would not start, had it towed to a shop and they said the engine locked up. After tearing motor down the main bearing was scored and there were metal scratches.
I was driving on a wet Road with more than an inch of water on the road and all of a sudden my engine blew up I took it to the Chevrolet dealer and they told me that water got in the engine and it was my fault I feel that the engine failed and should not have
Excessive Oil consumption from new and lifter failure at 116,000 miles
Had the top of the motor rebuilt twice, first the left side, then the right side. Then GM replaced the motor out of warranty. A year and a half later the rear main seal blew and the seal was all mushroomed and out of shape.
While driving down road at around 60mph 6.2L engine started to make loud knocking noise and shaking violently while loosing all power. Truck had 79,797 miles on it at the time with all oil changes and service done at GM dealership. After having GM dealership diagnose truck, it was determined to have a spun rod bearing, causing multiple other engine components to fail. Truck was not under factory warranty and was quoted $12,200 to replace. There were no warning lights or any known issues until this incident.

My vehicle has an incomplete recall, I am not getting what I paid for, still under warranty, not living up to GM Chevrolet warranty. Doesn't feel safe to drive.
Driving at the speed limit 65-70 miles ph my truck started to slow in speed the tire sensor came on then the truck began to smoke and the brakes locked up at a high speed, lucky for me there was no one behind me. I was able to limp to a safe spot and park the truck would not MOVE at all..After an hour I tried to move it again it would not go into drive. Had to tow it to the dealership..$$$$ later they say well we can't recreate the problem so it's drivable. I drive 2 blocks and it stops in traffic almost causing a collision. Had it towed home and for 3 moths now it has sat while I have to continue paying payments on a NON running 2020 with only 102 thousand miles on it this is CRIMINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! was told possible $62k to repair but no guarantee it would stay fixed!!!!!!!!!! Criminal and should not be on me I am paying still. But if something is not done I will let it get repo..I am [XXX] old this was to be my last newer vehicle I have had to borrow money again and bought an older 03 silverado that is running great. Main bearing on crankshaft when out
My vehicle only has 20k miles on it and I’m already replacing a lifter and camshaft due to the active fuel management system. At the time of taking my truck in there are three other trucks for the same issue. This is known issue at my dealership and this time I’m covered under warranty, but they told me to be prepared to repair this again and next time will be out of warranty and around 5k to repair.
Engine light came on, service park brake light came on, truck started jumping and misfiring, code says cylinder 5 misfire.

Shifting problems. Transmission feels like it is going to fall out. I have taken it in several times to be fixed and my Chevy dealer can not figure it out. Problem never fixed.
On September 21, 2024 my Chevy 1500 series truck in the year was 2020. It was made caught on fire white driving it. We were returning from a trip pulling a trailer from Kentucky to Mansfield Ohio when we were on the highway. The transmission light/panel came across and said transmission need to engine idle. I drove it about 3 miles and pulled off on an exit at a gas station and did what it said after proximately 10 minutes. The message went off and cleared. we resume going home on our trip and we are 14 miles on the highway then we got off on our exit there’s no lights or no problems with the vehicle. I dropped off the first passenger and Lexington, Ohio, and then the second passenger lived about a half mile away , this time kept unloading their equipment. From Lexington to my home in Mansfield, Ohio the other passenger I was talking about the light transmission was weird and might’ve been just a sensor. As we pulled onto Home road all the panel lights started flashing and then a message came across and said engine is shutting down. I put in park off the engine, we exit the vehicle and smoke was coming out from underneath the truck. I reached into the center council to grab the cell phones and had faster call 911 and when I reached back into the truck were coming out from underneath the hood. I notified General Motors on September 23 and have been battling them to get an inspection done. after several months, they have finally agreed with insurance company on terms to investigate what caused the fire. That inspection is to Take Pl., December 4, 2024. I have recently just seen the recall article on GMC that came out on November 13. My truck is listed in the article as far as your make and model. This was a transmission problem that GM is trying to ignore and should be held accountable. Have video of when it caught on fire and how quickly it burned up.
Engine start to make noise while driving Took my truck to a auto shop Mechanic said that it is a fabric defective engine
The truck caught on fire while I was returning from a trip out of state and then it appears it came from underneath either the transmission the engine or electrical. While returning home a message came on the panel on the highway, saying transmission, hot idle run I pulled off and did this and after about 15 minutes, the message light went off and I pursued Coming home nothing was wrong with the truck. After I dropped off to the passengers, I was on the way home and turned on home road and the message came on that says truck powering down all the lights came on the dashboard. I put the truck in park and shut the engine off had a manly open the doors and got out and smoke was rolling from underneath the truck. I grabbed the cell phones and told my passenger to call 911. I went back into the center of the cab to grab something out of the center council and flames came from underneath the hood up the glass of the windshield right in the middle of the truck. Backed away I called 911 again. Troy fire department responded in about six minutes. The truck was engulfed and gone. Ohio state patrol give me a claim number of [XXX] the instant [XXX]. There has been no problem with the truck or vehicle during the time I owned it. It was regularly service. It had 109667 miles on it. The truck was a 2020 Silverado from Bill Harris Ashland. I'm beginning to have similar problems with the 6.2 ecotec3 engine that gm has known problems and hasn't recalled them. Dealer indicates metal shavings from the main motor bearings. Just like others I will experience a total motor failure at anytime. This will be catastrophic if motor fails and shuts down. I fear I will be rear-ended or not be able to get out of harms way. This has happened to many with the same motor. Why would there not be a safety recall on a known safety issue. Others affected have been injured even killed because there vehicle just stopped in the middle of a roadway. I currently fear for my families safety and cannot simply opt out of a vehicle with only 18,000 and thousands invested. Instead it sits waiting for the right thing to be done. To be repaired to safely use. Thank you kindly.

I took my truck in for an oil change on 5/25 and 12 miles after words, my truck was thrown into reduced engine power mode, which dropped my speed unexpectedly as I was driving. Luckily, I was in a residential area so that did not affect my safety, but there is potential that someone could have this code come up on the highway and have their vehicle unexpectedly throttled in regards to speed. The reduced engine power mode was the result of a code related to an electrical issue that ended up being the coolant control valve for the engine. I took it to a Chevrolet dealership that did the oil change, and they inspected it and determined that that part was faulty And would need to be repaired. The problem comes intermittently because The dealership drove my truck some and the issue would occasionally go away. As the part needed is on a seven month back order, the vehicle is available for inspection if needed.
Problem started while driving on the highway, I was speeding up from the ramp to merge into the highway. As I got to 62 mph the dashboard started blinking that i could only go up to 62 mph max. Cruise control was not on. I drove to my destination at that speed with the message on the dashboard. I arrived at my destination, parked, turned it off, a couple of hours later turned it on to drive again. At this point, the dashboard message was that I could only drive it max speed 42 mph and "service tire monitor system" I towed to my mechanic given i could not drive at that speed on the highway back home. The mechanic said it was time for a brake change and that might be the issue. He changed all the brake pads and rotors and the truck drove fine again for less than a week. As i was getting on the highway, the truck started to jerk like it wanted to stop as i was speeding up, i was going 45 mph. There was a clanking sound coming from the engine. Then multiple things started flashing on the dashboard; check engine, traction control, messages reading "service parking brake" and "service ESC" I turned the truck off for a couple of minutes on the highway shoulder. Turned it back on, the same messages were still on the dash. I again could only drive it max in the 40's mph. The faster I tried to go, the more heavy and forced the truck felt. I had to park it over night in a parking lot. The next day i scheduled an appointment with a mechanic in town who checked it and said i would be needing a new engine, that he had seen this same problem a couple of weeks ago on a same truck. He quoted me $9K.I towed the truck back home and had another mechanic come take a look at it, he was getting the codes 0P50D and P0304.He exchanged the 4 cylinder for the good 1 cylinder to see if the codes would change from #4 to #1 and it did not. He said the issue was internal at that point and suggested I go take it to the dealership under the warranty. Its not under warranty, it ended at 60K miles and I have 80K now.
I have a 3.0 LTRe Dura Max issue is if the (Timing Belt ) or actually the oil pump drive belt breaks the engine will lose power if this happens in the middle of an intersection or major highway you will loose total power
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle started shuddering, made an abnormal clunking sound, and lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove to the nearest independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the engine had experienced an internal failure. The mechanic determined that the crankshaft, the lifters, an unknown valve, and other unknown parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.

Around 35k miles had an engine lifter fail and needed to be replaced, covered under warranty. 07/2023 - Had front pads/rotors replaced by Chevy dealer and had loud squeaking ever since. Contacted dealer and was told they are new pads so will just need time to break in. Contacted the dealer again in Sept.Oct. 2023 and brought vehicle in for service for noise concern. They informed me the noise is coming from the rear brakes that was reported as 60% life two months prior. They replaced the rear rotors/pads and noise persisted. Brought vehicle back to dealer in December, they performed a serviced but was ineffective. In March 24 started getting some vibrations when stopping. Brought vehicle for servicing, stated there are rust spots on rotors but everything is wearing fine so this will not be covered under warranty. Also that they do not warranty sounds due to pads can have more metallics then others and they cannot determine which ones do not. I looked under forums and GM Pads seem to be a common issue with noise. My truck was perfectly fine before these brake products were installed and I would like GM to be held accountable for there inferior products leading to loud break noises and violent vibrations while braking !
Check engine light came on, I plugged my code reader in and was given P0498 ERROR CODE. Upon doing research and calling around to 3 different Chevrolet service centers I was told that it is a know issue with the fuel pump control module on all gm trucks. I am part of a truck group of over 150 and 85 of us has had this issue and all are currently waiting for the part to come in which is back ordered over months. Why has there been no recall and service bulletins yet if all 3 of the service managers agreed of the known issue.
I purchased my vehicle from Southern Pines NC and at the time it had 12k miles on it. At about 40K I started having transmission problems. It would hard shift in 1st and 2nd gears. It also would not go into reverse. Hendrix Chevy had my vehicle multiple times attempting to fix things. Telling me it was not the transmission etc etc. My power train warranty expired at 60K. I have asked for my complete service records multiple times. I have paid out a lot of money due to it "not being the transmission". The last time it was there the manager Matt took it home and said the changed the transmission fluid which was very dirty. Almost trying to say I had done something to make it that way however in the service history they had it almost the entire month due to issues. I got it back and my brakes went out while driving. I was able to cost to a stop. I was at my limit. I called Matt and said come and get this vehicle. I want Chevy to take it back. They kept the vehicle for almost 2 weeks. Matt said he personally drove it home and it was fixed. I picked it up and I have not had any issues for about 8 months or. Now my power train warranty is expired and my vehicle is again doing the same things it was when I took it in at 40k. It now has 85k. It is hard shifting in 1st and 2nd. It is rolling when in drive. I also have had many body parts that have come off etc. I called Chevy today to again get my service records. I stil have not gotten them. I just want a reliable vehicle. I feel like I have not had a reliable vehicle from day one. I want them to take this vehicle back and I want a Toyota hat is comparable in cost of my truck in its new form. Can you help me?
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked; however, while attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed fuel modular control regulator and the fuel modular control regulator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 30,878.

When you try and start the truck, the instrument panel lights up fully but when you push to start the instrument panel dims and acts like the battery is dead and won’t crank. The engine light is on. After a few presses, it finally cranks and starts fully. Has happened repeatedly and randomly.
Notice the engine temp was rising, had notice I was slowly losing coolant in my overflow tank. Then while driving it started making noise that the engine overheated need to idle vehicle then as I pulled to a stop light the rims bogged down the whole vehicle shut down The radiator has a small leak in the plastic reservoir on the driver's side of radiator. Could have cause a big problem if I was in traffic when it shut down cause I had no control to turn the wheel or anything else once that happened. The vehicle got extremely hot very fast.
Brake system failure reported on screen. Extremely hard to stop vehicle.

Already paid for transmission repair and now paying for engine wiring harness. Service update was sent out to dealer in May of 2020 to fix issues before selling vehicle. That was not done.
Lifters are failing. This is an ongoing problem with GM engines. They used faulty parts and engines are failing and nothing is being done about it.

I purchased this truck new and it's now been back 8 times for a engine hesitation, misfire, and check-engine light. On this 8th visit, they replaced the "right bank" of lifters on this 5.3L V8. Previous visits have replaced fuel injectors, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and flashed the ECM. I'm not sure why GM didn't replace the left bank of lifters if it's a known bad part (or replaced the engine entirely). Now I'm just waiting for the problem to come back for a 9th time for yet another part to replaced on an obviously poor engine design.
On a 3 year old vehicle, I had a dash full of warning lights come on along with the engine light. Upon checking the code for the engine, it shows a misfire on cylinder 5. Looking online, chevy has a tsb # pip5776c regarding lifter failure. It appears this is an ongoing issue with many of the vehicles as verified by an engine repair shop. They stated then engine may need replacement as they have found in the past. For a 3 year old vehicle with more year of payments this is not right. They know of an issue and after speaking with a dealer, they said its on me because I am over the mileage warranty. I do not have the repair done yet--it is not cheap
Component? Multiple: lifters from bank 2 which caused multiple other components to be replaced consistent with GM protocols such as bent rods. Safety: The vehicle jerked causing it difficulty to safely operate the vehicle which ultimately left stranded. This was also unsafe for other motorist as it was difficult to operate while trying to safely get to the side of the road. The dealer repaired the vehicle after confirming failures. No one other than the dealer inspected the vehicle to date. Warning lamps only appeared after vehicle violently shook.
I have 75,000 miles on my vehicle and in the last 15,000 miles my check engine oil keeps going off. I change my oil every 5000 miles, I am having to add 1 quart of oil about every 1000 miles. I do not see any leaks or old oil on or around engine.
Lifter failure caused several different warning lights and misfiring and chugging. Vehicle never died, but might have if it had continued to be driven.
Vehicle exhibited sudden loss of power at highway speed while in West Texas. Without warning, the vehicle displayed an "engine power reduced" message and the vehicle immediately slowed from highway speed to a maximum speed of 25mph. This sudden reduction in power required the drive to take emergency action to leave lanes of travel for the shoulder. On a road with insufficient shoulder-area, this could have resulted in a collision. Prior to the loss of power, a check engine light illuminated followed by a "Service Emissions System Soon" warning on the driver information display. The elapsed time between the messages and the loss of power was less than 5 minutes. The vehicle did not exhibit any erratic behavior at the time of the warning lights or prior to the loss of power. The vehicle is currently at Bill Estes Ford in Indianapolis, IN. Diagnosis is underway. Indications are that this is related to issues with the emissions control system. The vehicle was up to date on all service at the time of the incident.
Locks will go up and down by themselves tranmission will downshift randomly broke down on highway service light service esc service parking brake and traction control vehicle only has 32,500 miles been complaining nothing getting done just want something else.
I am a volunteer firefighter. On Friday, June 24th 2022, I was responding to an emergency call around 1am. There was an active rainstorm and standing water on parts of the street. While driving through roughly 5-6" of water on the way to the fire station, my truck's engine suddenly shut off and I came to a stop. While stalled, I watched multiple cars travel through the same intersection with no issues. My fellow firefighters helped me get my truck to a nearby parking lot to sit and dry out. The following day my truck still would not start so I had it towed to the dealership where I leased the truck which was still under a full bumper-to-bumper warranty. After initial diagnostics, I was told there was water in my intake and I had to get my insurance company involved for the dealership to continue with the repairs. With no other choice, I opened up a claim and was given an estimate of over $9,500 for the repairs due to the engine being "Hydro-locked". I called GM and filed a complaint. They called the dealership and called me back stating the dealership told them I drove through a flooded road and damaged my engine. I did some brief research online and found several examples from multiple sources with the exact same issue. I feel that this is a design flaw and that this needs to be investigated further as I was stranded by myself, in a heavy rainstorm, in the middle of a roadway at 1am. There is no reason that a 2020 Chevy Trail Boss should not be able to travel through the amount of water that stalled my engine. There was nothing negligent about my actions and at no point was I worried about traveling through the water that I drove through. I feel like I am being treated unfairly in this situation and I would like someone to look through the databases to see how many similar consumer reports there have been regarding this design flaw. This is a major safety issue!
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle shutoff without warning. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the computer module was faulty. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, while driving, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle revved and there were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the same local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure after performing a test drive. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.

The reduced engine power warning message was displayed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear main seal needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the rear main seal; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and the dealer replaced the rear main seal a second time; however, the failure recurred with engine oil leaking onto the ground. I was driving down I27 10 miles south of Lubbock when my 2020 Silverado 1500 3.0 Diesel engine stopped accelerating. I was going 75 miles per hour and the truck just stopped causing trauma for me and my family we were lucky enough to get to the side of the road. I ended up calling gm roadside assistance and they sent a tow truck to pick us and the truck up. The truck wouldn't engage into drive nor reverse. Once towed to the dealership, Gene Messer Chevrolet, in Lubbock, Texas, a service tech mentioned that a ton of the lifters bending push rods are going out on the late 2019, 2020 model silverado due to cheaper lifters added to the vehicles due to Covid shortage supplies. In essence, they wanted to get these models out with no regard to safety of the consumer. I'm not pleased with the craftsmanship GM has lined out on these trucks, this could've ended way worst. They jeopardized my families safety for profits. Right now the truck is still awaiting diagnostics still won't drive nor reverse per dealer service tech. It's just a terrible situation, the truck is new only has 25,500 miles on it, this needs to be recalled.
Upon starting the vehicle for the second time one day, when placing the automatic transmission into 'D' - Drive, it began to roll backwards as if it was in Neutral on a slight decline and the brakes had to be applied to avoid rolling downhill backwards. After attempting to place it back into 'P' - Park and back into 'D' - Drive and attempting to try 'R' Reverse to try to get it to move forward properly, it would not go forward. After several tries and restarting the vehicle completely, it finally attempted to move forward but would only do so at a reduced speed and would not respond to the accelerator pedal beyond a certain amount. After trying again, it appeared to move forward a bit better, but then upon stopping at a stoplight and attempting to pull out for a left turn onto the road, the speed again was reduced and I had to immediately place it into 'R' - Reverse to avoid an accident due to oncoming traffic. Finally I was able to get it to move forward a bit better and was heading directly for the dealership but since the power just was not getting to the wheels (transmission?) I pulled over and shut off the truck for a few minutes. Upon starting the truck again, it seemed to move forward better after that but had the 'check engine light' illuminated. The truck is at the dealership now, they have had it nearly a week and said they will not begin to look at it for another week at least since they only have 2 technicians who can look at it.
Vehicle has approximately 15789 miles. Loud taking sound coming from engine began November 2, 2021 as I was on Highway. Dealer advises all 8 lifters and cam need replacement. My investigation reveals that this is a persistent problem with this type of vehicle and many reports have been made about this same issue throughout the USA. My service advisor advised me that they have already repaired several of the same vehicles for the same problem. Engine is defective and requesting a recall to release entire engine now that this engine will need major overhaul.
Whine sound possible torque converter does not go away. Surging or delay in switching into second gear upon first start up and put in drive.
Service ESC and Parking Brake error. Drove to work with no issues. Started up to drive home and I kept hearing a "Ping" noise like hail hitting my roof. Then I thought my transmission was going out while driving. It is almost like it is firing out of order. Dealership ordered multiple parts: Misfire in cylinder 4 plus issue with the heads and push rod. GM decided that the issue it to be repaired rather than a new engine be put in.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 10 mph, the vehicle drove through a puddle of water, shuddered and jerked then loss motive power. The contact was not able to restart the vehicle. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer who inspected the vehicle and diagnosed the failure as water entering the engine, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,400.

Service ESC and Service Parking Brake error. This was followed by loud pinging noises from the engine. Sounds like a misfire and knocking heads or valves.
Driving 50mph and the truck starts bucking, backfiring, and missing. Code appeared on the dash stating service ESC. Lack of Power steering and braking I parked the truck.

ON MONDAY 12/28, THE TRUCK DID NOT START AGAIN HOWEVER, THIS TIME, NO INDICATOR LIGHTS, DASH PANEL OR ANYTHING CAME ON AND I WAS ALSO UNABLE TO EVEN LOCK THE TRUCK. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER 2 DAYS THEY STILL HAVE NOT FOUND THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRUCK ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE INDICATED THERE IS A CLEAR PROBLEM. THE TRUCK IS STILL CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP.

WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START FROM A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN THE AUTO START/STOP FUNCTION HAS STOPPED THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE WILL FREQUENTLY HESITATE TO START, THEN ONCE STARTED EXHIBITS UNUSUAL ENGINE/TRANSMISSION BEHAVIOR. THIS TRUCK IS NOW ON ITS FIFTH CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT SERVICE FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES OF THE AUTO START/STOP FUNCTION. THE GM ONSTAR DIAGNOSTICS REPORTS INDICATE 2 FAILURE MODES, ONE WITH THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION AND THE OTHER WITH THE LITHIUM-ION BATTERY. I HAVE SEVERAL CONCERNS. 1, I MAY BE STRANDED AT AN INTERSECTION WITH A VEHICLE THAT WILL NOT RESTART AND/OR HAS STALLED IN THE INTERSECTION AND 2, THE LITHIUM-ION BATTERY WILL FAIL CATASTROPHICALLY LEADING TO A VEHICLE FIRE.

REPETITIVE FAULTS OF THE AUTO START/STOP SYSTEM. I HAVE NOTIFICATIONS ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE FROM THE ONSTART DIAGNOSTICS SERVICE OF TWO IDENTICAL FAULTS. ONE, A DEFECT WITH THE ENGINE & TRANSMISSION SYSTEM AND ONE A DEFECT WITH THE LITHIUM-ION BATTERY. TO DATE THERE HAS NOT BEEN AN EFFECTIVE REPAIR. THE LATEST ATTEMPT, REPLACING THE LITHIUM-ION BATTERY, SOMEHOW HAS FORCED THE SYSTEM TO NO LONGER FUNCTION UNDER ANY CONDITION. DRIVING CONDITIONS VARIED EACH TIME.

WHILLE SITTING AT A RED LIGHT, THE AUTOMATIC ENGINE STOP FEATURE ACTIVATED AND STOPPED THE ENGINE. WHEN I RELEASED THE BRAKE AND STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDDLE THE ENGINE DID NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED IN FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS IN A SOMEWHAT TIMELY FASHION EXCEPT THAT THE PART HAD TO BE ORDERED FROM THE FACTORY AS NONE WERE AVAILABLE. WOULD HAVE THOUGHT A STARTER DESIGNED TO START AND STOP NUMEROUS TIMES A DAY WOULD HAVE LASTED JUST A WHILE LONGER?

I HAVE A 2020 SILVERADO 1500 LT TRAIL BOSS WITH JUST OVER 5000 MILES ON IT WITH ONE PREVIOUS RECALL WHICH WAS COMPLETED. ON THIS OCCASION I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ROUGHLY 65MPH WHEN ALERT SOUNDS CAME ON FOLLOWED BY A MESSAGE ON THE CLUSTER SAYING TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE TO NEUTRAL AND PUSH START BUTTON. I DID THAT AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. I WAS IN THE FAST LANE AND DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH SPEED TO GET TO SHOULDER SO I PULLED TO CENTER TURN LANE OF HIGHWAY TO STOP. I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES OVER 5-10 MINUTES WITH NO RESPONSE. CLUSTER GAUGES WOULD CYCLE LIKE WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED, BUT IT DID NOT ENGAGE THE STARTER. I ALSO TRIED TO REMOTE START FROM KEY FOB WITH SAME RESPONSE. THERE WAS TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEED IN OPPOSING DIRECTION ON EITHER SIDE SO IT WAS UNSAFE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. I USED ONSTAR TO GET ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND ABOUT 15 MIN LATER POLICE SHOWED UP TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. ONSTAR SAID IT WOULD BE CLOSE TO AN HOUR FOR A TOW, BUT POLICE GOT ME ONE ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER. LUCKILY TEXAS COPS ARE PRETTY COOL SO WE JUST HUNG OUT UNTIL TOW TRUCK ARRIVED.

THE TRUCK IS NEW WITH 700 MILES. SEPTEMBER 26TH 2020 I CAME TO A STOP AT A LIGHT.AS I TOOK OFF THE TRUCK STARTED TO JERK AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE IT HOME. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME WHILE IN MOTION THE TRUCK WOULD JERK WHEN IT WAS CHANGING GEARS. I RECEIVED A TEXT FROM GM THAT SAID TO HAVE THE ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION SERVICED WITHIN 7 DAYS. I DID NOT DRIVE IT UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO TAKE IT TO CHEVY. SEPTEMBER 28TH 2020 ON THE WAY THERE THE VEHICLE DID THE SAME THING. ON SEPTEMBER 30TH 2020 THE CHEVY TECHNICIAN SAID THE TRUCK WAS READY HE SAID THE PROBLEM WAS A TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE THAT WAS NOT PLACED CORRECTLY. I PICKED THE TRUCK UP OCTOBER 1ST 2020 AND DROVE IT STRAIGHT HOME JUST FINE. OCTOBER 2ND IN THE MORNING DRIVING TO WORK THE TRUCK STARTED TO JERK AGAIN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I RECEIVED ANOTHER TEXT FROM GM SAYING TO HAVE THE ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION SERVICED WITHIN 7 DAYS. ON THE WAY TO CHEVY I HAD TO STOP AT A LIGHT WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED GREEN THE TRUCK DID NOT WANT TO TAKE OFF AND STARTED TO ROLL BACK AND I ALMOST HIT A VEHICLE. I PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK TURNED IT OFF RESTARTED IT THEN SAFELY DROVE IT TO CHEVY. TODAY IS OCTOBER 4TH AND I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING FROM CHEVY I DID NOT BELIEVE THAT A TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WOULD BE PLACED INCORRECTLY FROM THE FACTORY I BELIEVE THIS TRUCK HAS SOME KIND OF DEFECT AND IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL CHEVY FIGURES OUT THE PROBLEM.

I WAS STOPPED N THE DRIVE THRU AT IN-N-OUT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE ECO SYSTEM HAD TURNED OFF THE MOTOR. IT SPONTANEOUSLY TURNED BACK ON WITHOUT ME LIFTING MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE AND THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGED AND THE TRUCK LAUNCHED FORWARD APPROXIMATELY 12-18 INCHES. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME. IT ALSO HAPPENED ONE NIGHT ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS, I COULD HAVE HIT SOMEONE OR THEIR CAR OR I COULD HAVE EVEN RECEIVED WHIPLASH MYSELF. *TR

AT COLD START UP, THE TRUCK IMMEDIATELY ILLUMINATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WITH A MESSAGE OF REDUCED ENGINE POWER. A SHUT DOWN AND RESTART PRODUCED THE SAME RESULTS. SHUT THE TRUCK OFF AND PULLED THE TROUBLE CODE P26BB. NEXT START UP, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON, BUT THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER MESSAGE WAS GONE. DROVE IT TO THE DEALER WITH NO PROBLEMS, WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED A FAULTY COOLANT FLOW VALVE. 38 DAYS LATER IT STILL SITS AT THE DEALER STILL NOT REPAIRED. IF THIS PROBLEM WAS TO HAPPEN UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING, REDUCED ENGINE POWER COULD PRODUCE DANGEROUS CONDITIONS IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS ( IE PULLING INTO TRAFFIC, MERGING). *TR

WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE (OURS DOES NOT HAVE THE STOP START TECHNOLOGY); HOWEVER WHEN IDLING LOW OR COMING TO A STOP THE VEHICLE WILL JERK THEN DIE. THE MOTOR WILL COMPLETELY SHUT OFF; STALLING, THE ONLY WAY TO RESTART IS TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL OR PARK AND TURN IGNITION AGAIN. THE MOTOR SHUTS OFF ENTIRELY USER IS UNABLE TO DRIVE; PRESENTS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. PUSHING GAS PETAL DOES NOT WORK EVEN IF IT DID HAVE THE STOP START TECHNOLOGY.

IT CUT OFF AT A STOP AND AFTER I STOP WITH WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES. I FELL BUMP IN THE REAR OF THE TRUCK, LIKE I BEEN REAR END AND THE REAR SHAKES. SOME THE THE AS WELL. IT CUT OF AFTER I STOP A FEW SECONDS AND START RIGHT BACK UP. IN DRIVE WAY IDLES ABOUT 15 OR LONGER, IT CUTS OFF. I HAVE TO RESTART IT. AND TAKING OFF IN HESITATION AND SOME TIMES MOVEMENT IN THE REAR AND UNDER THE TRUCK. BOTH STATIONARY AND IN MOTION.

ON A VERY RAINY DAY I WAS DRIVING AROUND THE BLOCK I WENT THROUGH SEVERAL SMALL PUDDLES FROM RUN OFF SO NO MORE THAN TWO-THREE INCHES OF WATER. WITH A LOT OF RAIN AND SPLASHING FROM OTHER VEHICLES. MY TRUCK SPUTTERS AND DIES, NO DEEP WATER, NO OFF-ROADING. I WAS TOLD TODAY THAT THE TRUCK IS WATERLOCKED AND IT ISNT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I AM ASTOUNDED AS THIS WAS REGULAR DRIVING, HERE IS MY FACTORY LIFTED UP TRUCK WITH TONS OF CLEARANCE BROKE DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND LITTLE CARS PASSING ME BY DRIVING THE SAME ROAD I DID. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW OR SOMETHING AS I DON'T UNDERSTAND IF THIS TRUCK IS SO FRAGILE HOW COULD I EVER TAKE IT TO A BOAT RAMP. I BOUGHT A TRUCK TO USE AS A TRUCK.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, GAVE IT GAS TO GO AROUND A VEHICLE AND IT FELT LIKE THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. ESC CAUTION, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND BRAKE WARNING/CAUTION ALL ILLUMINATED. VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN DRASTICALLY AND IF I HADN'T GOTTEN OFF THE ROAD QUICKLY I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT. IF I HAD BEEN TURNING INTO TRAFFIC FROM A STOP AND THAT HAPPENED I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT. PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER, TURNED IT COMPLETELY OFF, REMOVED THE KEY, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND EVERYTHING WENT AWAY EXCEPT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. HEADED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AGAIN I GAVE IT SOME GAS AND IT DID IT AGAIN. PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF/ON AND SAME RESULTS, EVERYTHING CLEARED BUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN ON THE INTERSTATE THIS COULD CAUSE A MAJOR INCIDENT. I WAS ON A CITY STREET ON BOTH OCCASIONS. I HAD TO NURSE THE GAS PEDAL RETURNING TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS ABOUT 7 MILES FROM THE INITIAL INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE IS A 2020 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 WITH THE 2.7L TURBO ENGINE.
