I own a 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500, the truck currently has 51,400 miles on it. I started noticing a vibration while driving home from work that continued to get worse. After some quick online research I learned that the torque converter on the newer Chevy and GMC trucks is a weak point in their assembly. This is a very common issue and complaint for owners. The manufacturer has done nothing to resolve it or honor repairs on the defective product. My truck was one month out of the 5 year/60,000 mile warranty, they would not honor repairs because it was outside of the time window. The internal parts break up and destroy a transmission. Luckily i caught it early enough before it caused my transmission to fail while driving. I do not have the part with me. I took the truck to a shop for repairs and they did not return the defective part. No warning lights came on the dash.

Bad shuttering, slow acceleration, clunking noise, check engine light flashing all started while driving home. Took it to a transmission shop and they said it was the TC and transmission. I then called the dealership to see if there was a recall, and looked up any recalls. Since I have had fluid flushed and changed, and still have the problems. This has been an on going problem for a couple of years now. It was just out of warranty for dealership to fix. It started while I was on a highway and had very poor acceleration control.

Back in 7/2025, I was going to a Dr appt in Chandler, Az. When I arrived in Maricopa, Az, my truck stalled at the first stop light and would not start. I went over Kraegan Auto parts and bought a battery. After about 10 days, I was having to jump start my truck for the next few days. I took the battery back and they realized that it wasn’t the battery my truck called for. So, now I have the correct battery and everything working like it supposed to. In Nov 2025, my battery was starting to drain like overnight, and jump starting my truck every morning. I also told them, that the transmission was acting up. When I got on the highway my truck would be at 5000 rpm while doing 60 mph. I be would have to pull over to side of the highway, shut the engine down, and restart. Usually it would be good after the first time. So, up until now, I have no heater, no AC, my windows don’t go up or down, cruise control don’t work, l can’t move my power seat, so my wife has to put a pillow behind her and a pillow beneath her when she drives our truck. And I be still haven’t mentioned all be the little icons that are lit on the steering column. My truck is at the Jerry Seiner Casa Grande, Az. I have the protection plus coverage on my truck with GA Security, and I was told that because it’s a battery issue and found me at fault, they won’t cover me and I need to pick up my truck, because I can’t afford a $680.00 price tag. I’m on Medicare. That’s why I paid the $3500 for the protection plus coverage. So I guess it’s my fault or fault of my battery, my transmission doesn’t shift gears, power windows don’t work, heater or AC don’t work, can’t forget the cruise control. They said they are not covering nothing, to come get my truck.

While driving at highway speeds, multiple warning lights illuminated on the dashboard at the same time, including engine and powertrain warnings. The vehicle suddenly began operating abnormally, with loss of power and unstable driving behavior, making it unsafe to continue driving. This same issue has occurred multiple times previously and the vehicle has been taken to an authorized Chevrolet dealership for repairs on three separate occasions. Each time, repairs were performed, but the problem returned. The most recent incident occurred while driving on the highway and created a serious safety risk to the driver and other vehicles. The vehicle is not safe to drive.

My 2020 Chevy Silverado needs a torque converter replacement. My truck is at 90k miles and out of drivetrain warranty. However, this is a known GM problem with trucks (and other vehicles in this class of engine/transmissions). I have talked to GM corporate and they are only willing to rebate 20% of the cost of this repair. I believe they should pay for the entire repair since this is a known problem for all these vehicles in this class. Please help me to get GM to understand this and fix this known problem.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal odor coming from the vehicle. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact became aware of coolant leaking from the front of the vehicle near the transmission, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact retrieved DTC: P0016. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the coolant control valve, motor mount, and camshaft timing had failed. The dealer informed the contact that the coolant control valve, motor mount, and wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

Transmission, would lock up for no apparent reason . At random speeds, they continue as if nothing was wrong. Took to dealership, couldn't get to it for a week. End up at a transmission shop said it through some code. required rebuilding the transmission . 88,000 miles on truck. From time of first incident to first shop visit one week. Same transmission in similar trucks is under recall but this vin# is not.

THIS IS A RECALL REMEDY FAILURE REPORT UNDER 49 U.S.C. §30120. My 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (VIN: [XXX] ) received Recall 24V797000 on June 9, 2025. The ECM update is intended to detect incipient clutch-pressure or gear-ratio deviations—early signs of a developing slip—and automatically force limp mode to prevent rear-wheel lockup. On August 23, 2025, after the recall was performed, the truck experienced rear-wheel lockup at highway speed. Limp mode did not activate, which shows the recall remedy failed to operate as required. Mangino Chevrolet documented symptoms matching the recall defect, including abnormal ratio behavior. No metal debris was found in the pan, indicating the failure was not caused by wear. GM TAC also noted behavior consistent with a developing slip. GM first recommended full transmission replacement at my expense before acknowledging the recall. GM later authorized a valve-body replacement, which also failed. The dealership owner provided a written statement confirming that: (1) the recall remedy did not correct the defect, and (2) the valve-body repair did not correct it. On December 3, 2025, GM Customer Assistance attempted to close my case as “not recall-related,” despite the post-remedy lockup, limp-mode failure, dealer findings, and the written admission that the recall remedy was ineffective. The safety defect persists after recall completion, and GM has not provided a remedy that corrects it, as required under federal law. I am reporting this as a failed recall remedy and an ongoing safety defect. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

During driving at low speed 15-30mph with 4 wheel drive set to auto. 4 wheel drive engaged and rear wheels locked up. Turned off 4wd no issue. Upon arrival at the dealer a bad sensor was determined to have caused the rear wheels to not perform as designed. After resolving the issue now I hear rubbing metal noise from the drive shaft. Spoke to Chevy about the issue haven’t heard back.

The transmission quite working while I was driving down the road. Took my foot off of the gas pedal and my truck bogged down completely and had no power to it. It is at an auto repair shop so I am unaware if it could be inspected under request. Took time but was able to safely get off the roadway and out of traffic. It did the out of no where. Started having some issues this summer but no warnings lights ever came on, so I didn’t think much about it. Completely stopped in the middle of the road and had little to no power from the transmission to the truck to move off of the road. My truck is currently in an auto repair shop waiting on a new transmission to be installed. I had it towed to an independent auto shop from where it stalled. There were not warning lamps or anything at the time of my transmission quitting. Truck started to run rough and shifting hard this summer but without warning lamps I didn’t take it anywhere. When running on the interstate it was shuttering which I thought was due to possible tire out of balance. It would also hesitate to take off when put into drive. It had several of the same issues that Chevy had on other transmissions that were recalled within this same time frame.

Nov 3, 2025

Ever since I bought the truck I have had a issue with the transmission after it heats up an around 57mph the transmission is stuttering like crazy fluids an filters has been changed an no change on the transmission operation. After talking to many shops states that my year model a style of truck has terrible transmissions this is a safety issue that needs to be looked in to. I’m scared to put my kids in my truck because of this. I have notified the dealer the Monday after I got the truck.

my 2020 High Country Deluxe 6.2 L87 GM Motor: At Every Cold startup, the engine sound is erratic and sounds like metal on metal for internal combustion for approximately 2 seconds until the newly designed two-stage, variable displacement vane-type pump oil sump pump. The biggest issue that I have with this design is, with a 2 stage pump, depending on the engine rpm, according to GM is Possible lower psi to pump the oil to the top end Valve assembly. In addition, the OW/20 oil IMHO is too thin and does not have the Viscosity to lubricate the motor properly. GM Fix (for 2021 -2024 L87 6.2 motors was to change the viscosity to 5W/30 Supercar Synthetic oil, add a leaf to the owners manual to dictate the oil viscosity change and changing the oil cap from 0W/20 to 5W30. 10-speed Hydra-Matic 10L80: Hard upshifts and downshifts intermittently and confusion of proper gears. There is a TSB regarding this specific Valve Body and torque converter issues. Finally: When deactivating DFM Random cylinders as needed by ECM-TCM-BCM, the lifters are staying in the collapsed state and cant return to full height resulting in bent push rods, rocker arm damage, Camshaft damage, crankshaft damage and Catastrophic engine Failure. It now seems that NHTSA has issued a New Federal Probe into the remaining 2019-2021 L87 6.2 motors.

Summary: While driving, the transmission intermittently fails to shift and the truck has locked up and screeched to a complete halt approximately four times, creating a sudden stop/near rear‑end‑collision risk. Details & timeline: First symptoms were around 55,010 miles. On 10/13/2024 the Chevrolet dealer performed “SERVICE TRANSMISSION GM” (fluid & filter), but the condition continued. In April 2025, a shop documented DTC P0700 & P2727 (pressure‑control solenoid), burnt transmission fluid, and clutch material in the pan, and recommended replacing the transmission, transmission cooler, and cooler lines. Earlier, the transmission control module was reprogrammed, and oil cooler lines were replaced, but the truck still intermittently fails to shift while driving. The check engine light has illuminated during some events. Engine safety concern: During the same period the engine oil was found very low/“no oil on dipstick” with no external leaks; an oil‑consumption test was recommended, raising concern about internal engine damage and possible contamination from the transmission failure. Safety impact: The lock‑up / abrupt stop events occurred while the vehicle was in motion at approximately [~speed and road type, e.g., 35–55 mph on city/secondary roads], forcing hard braking by vehicles behind me. This presents a risk of sudden loss of propulsion and crash. Frequency: About four lock‑up events so far; shifting failures are intermittent and ongoing. Current status: Vehicle at ~73,000 miles. A Chevrolet dealer is being asked to perform a factory diagnosis and to submit a manufacturer goodwill/warranty review.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was shaking and vibrating abnormally. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated the failure was a recurring failure. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer and the contact was informed that the oil level was low, and oil was added. The dealer had not diagnosed the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The contact had been checking the oil level and was constantly adding oil. The contact stated that the same dealer had changed the spark plugs and fuel injectors in January 2025. Recently the contact was unable to start the vehicle, and the vehicle was towed to the same dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed; however, the dealer advised that the failure might have occurred due to a failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 136,888.

Dear NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: I am filing this formal complaint regarding General Motors' failure to provide a timely remedy for safety recall XXX and GM's inadequate response to a catastrophic transmission defect that has affected my vehicle twice, resulting in complete transmission lockup while driving at highway speeds. *SAFETY INCIDENT HISTORY My 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has experienced the transmission control valve defect described in recall XXX on two separate occasions, both while driving at approximately 65 mph on the highway. Each incident resulted in complete rear wheel lockup, creating an immediate life-threatening situation. Following the second failure, I had the vehicle towed to Huffines Chevrolet Plano [XXX] ) on August 18, 2025. UNREASONABLE DELAY IN RECALL REMEDY As of today, October 6, 2025, my vehicle has remained at the dealership for 49 days with absolutely zero action taken toward repair. The vehicle has not been evaluated, diagnosed, or repaired. The dealer states they have only one transmission technician to handle the massive volume of recalled Silverado trucks affected by this defect. VIN: [XXX] Component: Powertrain / Transmission / Recall Remedy Description of the Problem: Recall remedy applied in June 2025 failed. Transmission subsequently failed. On August 25, 2025, a Mangino Chevrolet technician confirmed in writing that the failure was “related to the recall that was previously performed.” My truck was previously in GM’s care at Van Bortel Chevy (Nov–Dec 2024), after the recall officially opened on 10/24/2024, but the remedy was not applied at that time. I was forced to continue driving thousands of miles with the defect still present. Despite the written admission that the failure is recall-related, GM Customer Care has only offered a 50/50 split on the transmission replacement (my portion ≈ $3,950.34 + tax) and is now attempting to reframe the issue as a maintenance problem. Transmission fluid service intervals are not the cause here — the federally mandated recall remedy failed to prevent the very failure it was supposed to address. This situation has left me without a safe, reliable vehicle. GM has acknowledged the recall remedy failed but is refusing to take full responsibility. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate GM’s handling of this recall remedy failure. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

With only 70,000 miles on the truck it started to have a hard shudder and wheels locking up. During the wheel shudder it would shift hard as well. We took it to a shop and they said it was our Transmission control module and that the transmission had metal shavings and would fail soon. They also said doing any service to these transmissions can cause failure. We were informed that the dealership is aware these transmissions are all failing. The cost to replace is over $6,500. The dealership should have to do an official recall for this. After some research i found that the dealership has acknowledged the issue by replacing the TCM and uploading new software to put the transmission into a fail safe instead of putting in a new transmission. The issues that the failure causes has made thousands of people have to get new transmissions before the service is even due. A quick search on Google states that 461,000 vehicles were effected and that a recall has been issued, but it has not been officially issued. We need a new transmission and should not have to pay for it on a truck that is so new and serviced timely.

am writing to formally report a transmission failure in my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and to request your assistance in addressing this issue. I purchased the vehicle on September 2020from Suburu Cobband it currently has approximately 143,000 miles on the odometer. Recently, the truck began experiencing serious transmission-related issues, including total failure. These issues developed without warning and have rendered the vehicle unreliable and unsafe to operate. After inspection by ALM Chevy, I was informed that the failure likely stems from a known issue with the torque converter or transmission valve body — problems that have been widely reported in 2020 Silverado models with the 8-speed automatic transmission. I have also learned that GM issued a recall for certain 2020–2022 models due to excessive transmission valve wear, which may cause the rear wheels to lock up. I am concerned that my vehicle may fall within the scope of this recall or a related Technical Service Bulletin (such as TSB 21-NA-199). Given the seriousness of the failure, the relatively low mileage, and the widespread nature of these transmission problems, I believe this may be a defect in materials or workmanship. I respectfully request the following: Confirmation of whether my vehicle is subject to any open recalls or service bulletins relating to the transmission. A warranty or goodwill repair of the transmission or related components. If parts are unavailable, an estimated timeline for repair or alternative transportation options. I am attaching copies of my repair estimate, service records, and proof of purchase. Please advise me of the next steps and whether further documentation is needed. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to a prompt resolution so that I may safely return my Silverado to the road. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The transmission skips and has trouble finding gears. This causes the truck to vibrate, be slow to accelerate, or lurch occasionally. The decrease in vehicle responsiveness and unpredictable behavior make the vehicle drivable, but less safe.

I am writing to bring to your attention an issue I've been experiencing with my truck's transmission. Recently, the transmission failed due to a torque converter issue, which has caused significant disruption for me. From my understanding, this is a known problem that hasn’t been adequately addressed by GM. As I'm currently in the process of getting the transmission rebuilt, I believe it is only fair that I should not have to bear the costs associated with this repair. I would appreciate it if someone from GM could reach out to discuss this matter further. Thank you for your attention, and I look forward to your prompt response.

The transmission is locking up at speed causing a significant jump/ lurch in the rear end momentarily that sudden causes lane change. The dealer is telling me this is related to the transmission valve body recall however I received no warning and my truck has never gone into limp mode even though the recall remedy was supposed to provide a 10k mile warning. It would seem the determining factor is not being measured correctly or there are other contributing factors that are not being considered. This seems very dangerous and happened six times over the course of five miles before I could get the truck home and off the road.

Rear wheels of vehicle locked up momentarily mutliple times while driving between 45 and 65 miles per hour. Originally happened multiple times while towing a travel trailer but subsequently happened again with no trailer being towed. No warning lights or other sign of a problem leading up to any of the malfunctions. After locking up for approximately a quarter to half a second, the wheels release and the truck drives normally. Sudden wheel lock up could lead to loss of control or cause a vehicle to collide with the back of affected vehicle. Issue was reproduced by dealer service department and they recommended a new transmission valve body. This seems to be related to the recall for the transmissions on the diesel models of this truck but the gas trucks were excluded from that recall.

Initially, turbo charger issues. Dealer after 2 weeks corrected issues with the turbo charger. We were provided loaner. Dealer took 28 days, the second time, to supposedly remedy Transmission/shifting issues. First we were told it was a valve port body. Then we were told they had to remove the pan, etc., all part of the process. Then the parts were on backorder. Finally, at the 11th hour, they installed a rebuilt transmission. Without a loaner for 2 weeks. Got the truck back and within 24 hours, the truck suddenly lost power steering while driving around curve at aprox.30 to 35 mph., check engine light on, power steering light on, trailer brakes warning light on, etc. Had it towed back to dealer in the morning and told it would be a priority. Called at 5pm. Truck has not been seen. It's not a car. It's a work truck. Seems the dealership is swamped with silverado trucks with similar transmission issues waiting for valve ports. No loaner vehicles to be had the second time after 2 weeks. Not sure what they will tell us tomorrow.

I had the lifters and camshaft fail in my truck as a result of the faulty fuel management system GM put in these trucks during these years of manufacturing. I was driving my kids to an appointment when they failed in the middle of the highway, leaving the truck unable to run. I have reported the problem to the dealer as well as reported to GM directly. I have spoken with 3 different garages, all of which have made it a point to tell me this is a common issue in these trucks. Prior to this happening, there were no lights on to warn me of this problem. The repair cost is $12,000 and that is to put the same parts in the failed the first time. I don’t know many consumers that can afford the costs of these repairs when GM knows this is an issue but refuses to do anything about it.

Transmission is sputtering when trying to shift. Mostly at low speeds it's extremely jerky like it doesn't want to go. Had Transmission fluid and filter changed, but it did not help.

Jul 5, 2025

I was driving and came to a stop at a red light. When accelerating on green the transmission would not go into gear, stalling my vehicle. Nearly causing the vehicle behind me to rear end me. The vehicle eventually went into gear and started to slowly accelerate with shuttering of the transmission.

Jun 26, 2025

When accelerating the transmission shakes violently under the hood. It shakes so bad that other vehicles can hear it the vibration is intense until you take your foot off the gas and then try to accelerate again it happens a few times then it’ll stop until the next red light. Slowly accelerating makes it worse but doesn’t matter either way.

When a Check engine light is on it's for a low voltage on the charge air coolant sensor, took to the chevy dealer, they replaced a connector to the sensor, at a cost of $600 never got off lot, light returned, they then said I need a new engine wiring harness at a cost of $10.000, the dealership said this is a problem with these trucks and GM knows about it but won't recall them. Now I'm struck with a 5-year-old truck that I can't use, When this light is on, I also receive an Emission system warning, and the truck deregulates and goes in limp mode. as speed is reduced it becomes dangerous to drive in traffic, as GM knows about this, they should recall these trucks and fix the problem, they even say it's because cutting corners on the wiring harness cover causes this problem. as a senior living on a fixed income there's no way my wife or I can get this repaired, so were forced to drive it in limp mode until it dies on us, hopefully not in heavy traffic.

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding my Chevy vehicle, which is experiencing significant engine issues. The motor is knocking, and the check engine light has illuminated with trouble codes P0011 and P0016. These codes indicate problems with the camshaft and crankshaft timing on Bank 1 (driver's side in a V6/V8 engine). Specifically, P0011 signifies that the camshaft timing is over-advanced, while P0016 points to a correlation issue between the camshaft and crankshaft positions. These issues are often related to the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system and may be caused by faulty camshaft or crankshaft sensors, timing chain problems, or solenoid issues. This situation directly correlates with a recent recall affecting similar VIN numbers for 2021-2024 models with similar engines. An independent service has confirmed that my truck requires a new engine, which aligns with the issues addressed in the aforementioned recall. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter further and consider extending the recall to include my vehicle, as the problems I am experiencing are consistent with those covered by the recall.

Jun 9, 2025

The rear brakes of the vehicle are locking up while driving. The truck is a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab and 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 are listed as included in the recall per the NHTSA Campaign # 24V797000 recall. When searching the VIN number of our vehicle, [XXX] , it states that it is not included in the recall and has no unrepaired recalls. This transmission has shifted terribly since day 1. It currently has 114,000 miles. It would slip gears going up an incline. I was told the fluid was too slick. Fluid change at 30k. Started to stumble on downshift again. Fluid / filter change done. Brass, metal in filter/ pan. It will downshift so hard that it feels like you are getting rear ended at a stop light. 1-2 seconds after a complete stop, bam. Been down 9 weeks.

A few month ago this 2020 Silverado check engine came on in the middle of driving. It stopped shifting and almost caused an accident because it wouldn’t stop. I took it to the dealer and they found nothing wrong. Today, it is doing the same thing with faulty shifting, especially during first and second gears and when I initially accelerate. It is jumpy and worried and accident will happen if the car stops shifting like before. The check engine light is on again

My transmission keeps shuddering my whole vehicle after the new software was installed GM claims it’s fine and normal when in fact it’s going to cause an accident.

May 21, 2025

Transmission shudders started around 65k miles. Shop said it was recommended to do a transmission flush. We did that. Now at 72000 miles the transmission is locking up. It has been inspected by a reputable auto shop and they stated it needs a new transmission. The engine light came on when this issue happened. I was in the middle of traffic at a stop and when I started going it stopped abruptly and threw me forward. It was so violent that I thought I was rear ended. It did it two more times.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado with 72K miles has a bad Transmission Torque Converter. Warranty expired 2 months ago and will have to be replaced in the next 30 days. Had the truck checked out at a local transmission shop that said this is happening on every v6 Silverado that is being brought in.

May 13, 2025

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was jerking. Additionally, the contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and attempting to shift into gear, the vehicle failed to respond. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to Razorback Transmission Services, where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was contacted for reimbursement assistance and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.

The transmission has been slipping and shuttering which shouldn’t be an issue at 119,000 miles. This opposed a huge safety risk for me and my girlfriend on the highway. I was driving and it shuttered so bad i had thought the wheel was loose and coming off. I had to pull over on the highway to check the lugs and came to find out it’s the transmission, because it shuttered numerous times after. On top of that the entire trip was the transmission shuddering slightly making the wheels cut the the left and right. But throughout the trip, it had a slight shutter the entire time and a couple of big shutters, and one very large shutter that had my girlfriend think I ran over a bunch of wood in the road resulting in me pulling over being in danger and possibly wrecking from the shaking, and having to exit my truck on the side of the highway with 18 wheelers and other vehicles flying at 80+ miles an hour. Besides the safety issue, there should be no reason for these transmission going out like this at 60k miles and 100k miles it’s extremely cheap of GM and a huge hazard to many families.

May 11, 2025

Transmission is changing out very hard in each gear. On tonight while I was driving, I lost speed on the interstate and when I push the accelerator, It was like back wheels were locked up. I left it at the next exit gas station and came back and towed it home. Lucky I was able to put hazard lights on and get off the side of the road but it was very slow speed. Yes I have had it look at certified dealer under Cheverolet. It was no warning light. I was going 65 and in a split second the rpm went up high and I was doing like 25. Once I finally made it to the gas station and got out the truck smell like a burning smell

The oil coolant cooler is leaking oil into my antifreeze reservoir, but nothing is in the oil pan, which could cause damage to the engine a very expensive fix, and this should be covered under drivetrain by all means

May 6, 2025

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated after an independent mechanic had performed an oil change on the vehicle, the vehicle was moved and parked. The contact stated that upon attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The mechanic diagnosed that the engine had seized and there were metal shavings in the oil. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the manufacturer had denied coverage because the vehicle was previously serviced by an independent mechanic. The vehicle was repaired at the contact's expense. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE25001 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). Additionally, the contact stated while idling and while driving at various speeds, the vehicle made an abnormal whining sound. The vehicle was taken to Bomnin Chevrolet Dadeland (8455 S Dixie Hwy, Miami, FL 33143), where it was diagnosed that the transmission was failing and there were metal shavings found in the transmission. The dealer replaced the transmission. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

Employee was driving company car on backroad, started to rev high im assuming from trying to accelerate. Car started to slow and was pulled into a parking lot and towed to dealer. Upon inspection it was shown transmission cooler lines broke at crimps and quoted 2K to fix just the lines

May 2, 2025

The vehicle was being used in a normal daily driving routine. I was stopped(fortunately) at a traffic light. The light turned green and I went to proceed and began to press the gas pedal and the engine made a loud pop noise and began to barely stay running. I brought the vehicle to the shop(GM dealership) for diagnosis and repair. The motor had to be rebuilt new camshaft, lifters, etc. The vehicle is also having transmission issues, heavy vibration, hard shifts and constant fluctuations in the rpms while maintaining a set speed. The transmission issue still has not been resolved.

I just saw a recall for 2021-2024 vehicles for connecting rod/crankshaft engine components. I am not 100% sure that i have the same problem but my warning signs are the same. For example, there is a knocking sound in engin, it shifts abnormally and it hesitates and has reduced propulsion. I talked to several other Trail boss owners that had to have their Lifters repaired so maybe it is that? These problems are happening to everyone prior to even hitting 70k miles. I cannot afford to fix this if it is a problem that shouldnt be happening in the first place, due to crappy manufacturing.

Apr 29, 2025

On Feb 10, 2025 while in busy mid-day traffic on the highway going 55mph my vehicle without any warning signs or warning messages on dash, or dash indicator lights suddenly went into limp mode , began making a loud knocking from the engine, and started shutting down. I stopped the vehicle as soon as I safely could do so and had it towed back to the selling dealer for them to diagnose the issue. The dealer then informed me that i had a bent lifter on the left bank but they did this based on codes and not any tear down. They referred me to another local dealer. I had my vehicle towed there where they also stated lifter. Once they began to replace the lifters on the left bank scarring was found on my #3 cylinder wall and at that point I was told that my truck had catastrophic engine failure and the engine would have to be replaced. They also told me that my truck had no oil in it and the issue was caused from carbon build up. I have had every maintenance service performed on time and at the selling dealer and have all service records. I was not overdue on maintenance. I have never been told about any oil leaks or any other issues that needed to be resolved on my vehicle. I had driven the truck the night before with no issues.. There was no oil on the ground or under the vehicle for them to say there was no oil in the vehicle. I was never told that i needed spark plugs due to carbon. I believe that this has to due with the AFM issue that GM is well aware of. I had to purchase another vehicle due to the damage that was found on this required an engine replacement

At approximately 68K miles, the torque converter failed. Luckily it started going out and we could feel it. It would surge/shudder while driving on the road. We had to have the torque converter replaced at $5k. A dealer replaced the parts. At approximately 90K miles, the lifters started making a loud pinging noise. It turns out the lifters had issues which lead to them being replaced along with the camshaft. It could have failed on the road and left us stranded. The sound of the lifters alerted us. A local shop fixed the issue at a cost of $9K.

Apr 6, 2025

Had a check engine code and the dealership diagnosed the problem as being the coolant control valve. However being still under warranty they said that part is no longer covered under powertrain warranty as of Feb 1st. They now want me to pay 4400 for a part that fails often. Is there anything I can do?

Waiting til after weekend to take truck back in. They had to physicallt look at why truck was vibrating. Engine light not showing issue. Neither did the code reader. Mechanic found provle to be the Torque convertor. Need to change that. Said it was a very common problem in Chevy trucks.

Engine misfiring multiple times over a period of 2 or 3 years. Took it to the dealership in Andrews Tx, could not duplicate misfire but saw over 600 misfires on a single cylinder, they said it was fuel pump failure. Replaced fuel pump. After a month misfiring started again. October of 2024 took it to dealership in San Angelo Tx, they were able to duplicate misfire, lifter failure. Replaced lifters and cam as it was beat up. One month after repair, vehicle started shuddering. Took it back to San Angelo service center, transmission issue, torque converter needs to be replaced. I refused the service as I would not spend $5,000 more after spending $10,000 to repair engine.

When I would put the truck in park and proceed to turn it off, the computer would tell me the truck was not in park. I was told at the dealership that the transmission was in park, though the computer wasn't communicating correctly. Not only does it pose a risk of draining the battery, it is a safety issue. If I were to park on a hill, the only confirmation that my truck is in park is what's said on my dash.

Feb 26, 2025

I purchased a 2020 Chevy Silverado 2.7 turbo RST from Greg young Chevy in Omaha Nebraska. Upon purchasing this vehicle within 20 days of ownership I got a check engine light indicating code P2090 for exhaust camshaft position sensor. The truck was taken back to the dealership and they at first tried to just clear the code and give the truck back however I put my foot down and requested them to look further into it. After weeks of them having the vehicle they determined there was an issue with the pcv oil separator and they replaced the part allegedly. After reviving the car back they strongly suggested I purchase an extended warranty telling me “you’re going to need it” we purchased the warranty only to discover the code reappearing less than 2,000 miles later and a tic sound in the engine. My independent research has concluded it’s a lifter failure and those lifters are now slamming into my camshaft causing excessive damage. After getting the code read more in depth I can confirm they again just cleared the code and an oil leak is still existent in the engine. This causes the auto stop to disengage which makes the vehicle leech forward when at rest while my foot is still present on the brake as the camshaft does a full rotation to adjust and correct itself to the sensors suggested position. On average this moves the vehicle approximately 1 foot forward and could lead to me damaging my vehicle or causing harm to people in crosswalks.

Feb 9, 2025

On January 17, 2025, I was approaching the entrance ramp unto Interstate 10, traveling along at approximately 40 miles an hour, when all of a sudden I noticed that my vehicle started decelerating as I was pressing on the accelerator, trying to merge onto oncoming traffic. The engine started shuttering and vibrating violently! I noticed all the warning lights, gauges and indicators had come on simultaneously! There was a loud clicking sound coming from the engine compartment and backfiring coming from the exhaust. I evaluate the situation at hand and conduct a risk assessment of trying to continue on with this problem but decided to move over to the median. I was almost run into from the rear due to lack of power in which I felt would have been the result of my truck just losing power without any warning. I drove my truck to a Chevrolet dealership after speaking with a Service Advisor, on January 20, 2025. The Truck was diagnosed as needing to replace Cam Rod and Lifters.

Transmission shudders and has a delay in shifting/starting movement of the vehicle. This problem was noticed at 98k miles about a thousand miles after I purchased the truck from a dealership. It has been inspected, and repairs scheduled, but the transmission is still on back order after 5 months of waiting. No part ETA is available from Chevrolet corporate. This issue is a safety concern due to the fact that the vehicle could hesitate to accelerate in the event of needing to take evasive maneuvers to avoid an accident/road hazard.

Jan 24, 2025

Vehicle purchased December 2020 Flashing check engine light that stays on- light did not stay on long enough for dealer to see, said they couldn't find any issues. The first time we had it towed and when they looked at it the light was no longer on. They were able to tell us what was going on with the vehicle when the light came on but said there were no problems. Flashing check engine light that turns off- "no light = no problem" dealer says. Eventually they printed pages showing engine misfires which we were initially told was no big deal. Later I was told I should get spark plugs changed, which I did. So far, flashing light has not reoccurred. Burns 3 or more quarts of oil between oil changes which I was assured by more than one rep that that was normal (on numerous occasions). Air conditioning quit working. Heater not working well and not at all on idle. The only setting I can really use to defrost and keep my feet warm is the "floor only" option. Mixed doesn't work, defrost only will freeze feet. Gas smell while vehicle at idle. Initially noticed when using auto start but have since noticed it does it with regular start as well. All issues have been brought to dealership, I will have to contact them for all the exact dates.

Truck has been burning oil since it was purchased new in 2020. The truck has needed 6 quarts added between every oil change. It has been to the dealer and they insist nothing is wrong. GM customer service has been no help. Motor has a ticking noise. Finally 2 weeks ago check engine lights came on and loud noises came from motor. Brought it into the dealership and they said full lifter failure and engine scoring and has been like this for awhile now. This is something I brought up to them AND GM support over the last 4 years of owning the vehicle and they always told me there was nothing wrong with it. Private extended warranty is going to cover a new engine, but is on national backorder due to all the issues with the 6.2L engine and others having issues GM won’t acknowledge.

First incident was when the vehicle had under 7,000 miles. Transmission module went. Vehicle wouldn't move. A few months prior, when we pulled our camping trailer, the integrated brake didn't work and the truck brakes overheated. Took vehicle to dealer, couldn't find a problem. A few months later the truck would not move, and found to be the transmission module. After a month and they finally got the part and repaired, no problems with pulling the camper. Than last week, we pulled out on the road, and we couldn't accelerate. A little over 45,000 miles on it. Had towed to dealer, they have diagnosed Transmission Valve Body. No warning lights. Maybe the transmission was hesitating some before it went. Waiting for the part, which no clue how long it will take.

Dec 9, 2024

The specific issue that is being recalled is malfunctioning on my vehicle. I have taken to the dealership but they won’t help because the solution hasn’t been identified. My truck has suffered repeated failures resulting in excessive wear and tear on the transmission. I’m afraid a catastrophic failure will occur if I have to keep driving, without a solution. The dealer simply cleared the code. They should replace the part that is failing at a minimum. Even if it might happen again down the road. They will have a solution by then.

This vehicle, only 4 years old, experienced lifter/engine failure during normal operation, which required unsafe driving conditions and a roadside emergency. The vehicle was towed to the service location, where a complete engine disassembly took place, and required a 3 week repair period. Transmission continues to lock up while driving

Nov 14, 2024 Fire

On September 21, 2024 my Chevy 1500 series truck in the year was 2020. It was made caught on fire white driving it. We were returning from a trip pulling a trailer from Kentucky to Mansfield Ohio when we were on the highway. The transmission light/panel came across and said transmission need to engine idle. I drove it about 3 miles and pulled off on an exit at a gas station and did what it said after proximately 10 minutes. The message went off and cleared. we resume going home on our trip and we are 14 miles on the highway then we got off on our exit there’s no lights or no problems with the vehicle. I dropped off the first passenger and Lexington, Ohio, and then the second passenger lived about a half mile away , this time kept unloading their equipment. From Lexington to my home in Mansfield, Ohio the other passenger I was talking about the light transmission was weird and might’ve been just a sensor. As we pulled onto Home road all the panel lights started flashing and then a message came across and said engine is shutting down. I put in park off the engine, we exit the vehicle and smoke was coming out from underneath the truck. I reached into the center council to grab the cell phones and had faster call 911 and when I reached back into the truck were coming out from underneath the hood. I notified General Motors on September 23 and have been battling them to get an inspection done. after several months, they have finally agreed with insurance company on terms to investigate what caused the fire. That inspection is to Take Pl., December 4, 2024. I have recently just seen the recall article on GMC that came out on November 13. My truck is listed in the article as far as your make and model. This was a transmission problem that GM is trying to ignore and should be held accountable. Have video of when it caught on fire and how quickly it burned up.

Nov 12, 2024

My truck has 75K miles and the transmission has a shudder and it shifts very hard. I have been told I need a new transmission by an AAMCO shop which will cost just under $7k. This is ridiculous for a 2020 pickup.

Oct 6, 2024

I'm not sure what to call most of this but my truck has been vibrating when getting up to about 50 mph. When putting in gear it shows you put it in the gear wanted put doesn't register sometimes and perks you and clicks. The entire front end grinds, pops and clicks when turning forward or backwards. When doing the steering wheel will get stuck and want turn for a split second in turn causing steering To be misaligned causing you to basically steer the wheel in an unnatural position until you stop put it in park then proceed to drive again. I have had these issues since we bought the vehicle brand new. We have to get an alignment and balance rotation like every 6 months for it to only help for a about a month to not be as bad.

Oct 2, 2024 Fire

The truck caught on fire while I was returning from a trip out of state and then it appears it came from underneath either the transmission the engine or electrical. While returning home a message came on the panel on the highway, saying transmission, hot idle run I pulled off and did this and after about 15 minutes, the message light went off and I pursued Coming home nothing was wrong with the truck. After I dropped off to the passengers, I was on the way home and turned on home road and the message came on that says truck powering down all the lights came on the dashboard. I put the truck in park and shut the engine off had a manly open the doors and got out and smoke was rolling from underneath the truck. I grabbed the cell phones and told my passenger to call 911. I went back into the center of the cab to grab something out of the center council and flames came from underneath the hood up the glass of the windshield right in the middle of the truck. Backed away I called 911 again. Troy fire department responded in about six minutes. The truck was engulfed and gone. Ohio state patrol give me a claim number of [XXX] the instant [XXX]. There has been no problem with the truck or vehicle during the time I owned it. It was regularly service. It had 109667 miles on it. The truck was a 2020 Silverado from Bill Harris Ashland. Rear end went out within drivetrain warranty period. Chevy claimed it was due to a leak even though there was no evidence of one and they couldn’t produce the part. Almost immediately after getting it back it started to have transmission problems (8L90). They again claimed there wasn’t a problem. The truck now has 120,000 miles on it and we are replacing the transmission after it would drop gears and, finally, wouldn’t go into reverse.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom, bought new on August 10, 2020. On August 24, 2020 I returned the vehicle to the dealership with 524 miles on the odometer, for hard downshifting at low speeds. The technician returned the truck with 531 miles, stating that he could not duplicate the issue. The issue continued along with occasional shudder at speeds around 40-50 m.p.h. On December 14, 2022 I took the truck to a different dealership with 1,616 miles and it was returned with 1,625 miles on the odometer. The technician found a slight shudder at 25-30 m.p.h. under light acceleration, but could not duplicate any other malfunction. The technician stated there was no metal debris in the fluid pan and performed a flush and refill of transmission fluid, installed updated thermal bypass valve and three seals. The issues still persisted, but not as harsh or as frequently prior to this service. I returned to the original dealership again on September 3, 2020 with the same concerns at approximately 28-K miles. Again, after having my truck (4) days, the original dealership's technician stated that he could not duplicate the problem(s).

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the contact experienced resistance while using the gear shift lever to drive and there was a hesitation while shifting gear. Additionally, while in reverse on several occasions, the back over prevention screen went black and failed to operate as intended. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

Truck was purchased from an authorized chevy dealership less than 6 months ago. Truck had transmission service just before purchasing it as it was *maintenance* not repairs. However all of a sudden the truck will stop accelerating in the middle of intersections where you typically would have a 1-2 or 2-3 shift. along with during acceleration on highway it will decide it doesnt want to shift anymore to a higher gear than 4th or 5th. This is causing a constant safety threat as i cannot control when the vehicle will move under its own power. This is a known problem with cheverolet as they will replace the parts that cause this if its under warranty however mine is not. Although the warranty is up the issue is caused by poor manufacturing process and they know that.

I took my truck in for an oil change on 5/25 and 12 miles after words, my truck was thrown into reduced engine power mode, which dropped my speed unexpectedly as I was driving. Luckily, I was in a residential area so that did not affect my safety, but there is potential that someone could have this code come up on the highway and have their vehicle unexpectedly throttled in regards to speed. The reduced engine power mode was the result of a code related to an electrical issue that ended up being the coolant control valve for the engine. I took it to a Chevrolet dealership that did the oil change, and they inspected it and determined that that part was faulty And would need to be repaired. The problem comes intermittently because The dealership drove my truck some and the issue would occasionally go away. As the part needed is on a seven month back order, the vehicle is available for inspection if needed.

I purchased my vehicle from Southern Pines NC and at the time it had 12k miles on it. At about 40K I started having transmission problems. It would hard shift in 1st and 2nd gears. It also would not go into reverse. Hendrix Chevy had my vehicle multiple times attempting to fix things. Telling me it was not the transmission etc etc. My power train warranty expired at 60K. I have asked for my complete service records multiple times. I have paid out a lot of money due to it "not being the transmission". The last time it was there the manager Matt took it home and said the changed the transmission fluid which was very dirty. Almost trying to say I had done something to make it that way however in the service history they had it almost the entire month due to issues. I got it back and my brakes went out while driving. I was able to cost to a stop. I was at my limit. I called Matt and said come and get this vehicle. I want Chevy to take it back. They kept the vehicle for almost 2 weeks. Matt said he personally drove it home and it was fixed. I picked it up and I have not had any issues for about 8 months or. Now my power train warranty is expired and my vehicle is again doing the same things it was when I took it in at 40k. It now has 85k. It is hard shifting in 1st and 2nd. It is rolling when in drive. I also have had many body parts that have come off etc. I called Chevy today to again get my service records. I stil have not gotten them. I just want a reliable vehicle. I feel like I have not had a reliable vehicle from day one. I want them to take this vehicle back and I want a Toyota hat is comparable in cost of my truck in its new form. Can you help me?

torque converter and transmission. For more than a year truck would lunge or jump forward when stopped at light or sitting in traffic, brought truck back to dealer several times for this problem each time they would tell me nothing wrong with truck. problems continued to happen and Truck started hesitating when accelerating then jumping into gear also while driving on highway truck felt like it was slipping out of gear and RPMs would jump up. Brought truck back to dealer again 3 months ago and they said torque converter was going bad and they would call me when part was in. two months later and they kept saying it was back ordered, now while driving going down steep incline into busy intersection felt like i got rear ended by another car, when looking back no car was close me truck stalled and started rolling into intersection I slammed on brake and got truck started again only to find transmission had failed and it slammed into gear when accelerating put my flashers on and got off road . Brought truck back to dealer to have them tell me transmission was now gone. truck has now been sitting on dealer lot for a month now with them telling me they can't get parts or transmission to fix. Very dangerous situation with this transmission and them knowingly kept sending me away in this truck. I feel that they knew about transmission problem over a year ago when I was bringing it in for the lunging forward after coming to complete stop at traffic light and kept saying nothing wrong. Truck was still under original warranty and only has 62k miles on truck.

Driving 20 mph on paved downtown street when cross arm failed causing wheel to twist 90 degrees causing damage to brakes, drivetrain, abs, and steering. No warning just pop and trying to maintain my lane before able to turn into parking lot. Towed to dealer and diagnosed with control arm failure. They are aware of this issue and now replace control arms stronger rough country control arms and level the truck differently. DeAler is claiming GMC will not cover and they are calling it a suspension issue and out of warranty two months. Truck has 26000 miles on it. Lucky event happened at 20 mph and I was able to maintain control of vehicle

Truck shudders, with varying degrees of vibration, emtek applying brakes. It is especially rough when applying brakes on the highway as it feels like it could lose steering control. Shaking is also very noticeable at slow speeds. Have had rear brakes serviced and problem persists. As of this month, the "service ESC (electronic stability control)" light has come on, along with other faults on the dash. VIN does not indicate unrepaired recalls, but this issue makes the drive feel dangerous

Everytime I trun the car off, all the lights, Nav, radio stays on as the car display a message "Shift to Park". This message stays on for sometimes 2 minutes, sometimes 10 minutes. Untill the message gone the car still thinks is on. In 2 occasions I had to jump the car as the battery depelted. This is a major safety issue if my son who drive the car to Detroit and had to stay wait for the car to turn off. GM need to fix this issue ASAP. I called the dealership & they said there is no recall or any fix. I see many many ppl complaining about the same thing with different Chevy models.

Apr 26, 2023

I purchased this truck new and it's now been back 8 times for a engine hesitation, misfire, and check-engine light. On this 8th visit, they replaced the "right bank" of lifters on this 5.3L V8. Previous visits have replaced fuel injectors, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and flashed the ECM. I'm not sure why GM didn't replace the left bank of lifters if it's a known bad part (or replaced the engine entirely). Now I'm just waiting for the problem to come back for a 9th time for yet another part to replaced on an obviously poor engine design.

Apr 20, 2023

Component? Multiple: lifters from bank 2 which caused multiple other components to be replaced consistent with GM protocols such as bent rods. Safety: The vehicle jerked causing it difficulty to safely operate the vehicle which ultimately left stranded. This was also unsafe for other motorist as it was difficult to operate while trying to safely get to the side of the road. The dealer repaired the vehicle after confirming failures. No one other than the dealer inspected the vehicle to date. Warning lamps only appeared after vehicle violently shook.

Vehicle is at 67,xxx miles. Vehicle is losing power, check engine light, service 4wd, service esc, service power steering, service parking brake..... the gas pedal has locked on me already with my 3 small children in the truck at highway speeds. GM says it's fine. I have all the work orders where 2 different dealerships have "corrected" these issues under warranty. Go retrieve the vehicle and within a week Vehicle is back acting up. This truck is unsafe to drive on the roadway. I have not been offered a courtesy vehicle to drive while "warranty" work is being done. I am appalled and in fear for my children and my own life with this truck.

Transmission will hard shift from 2-3. It jerks the truck and causes power loss when in traffic. The RPM's will go up to 3500-4000 and then the truck barley keeps a speed of 45 mph. The engines sounds like it is going to explode! This has happen several times with 32000 miles on the truck.

Jan 16, 2023

Truck was purchased new in 2020. The transmission has worked fine until recently. Since this summer there is a distinctive whine coming from the engine department. Very hard to isolate. The transmission this winter has been terrible. The cold functionality of the transmission now is even worse than when new. It hesitates to shift to second and to third gear when cold. The transmission now also exhibits a failure to up shift when the vehicle is moving. It will hang with elevated rpms 2300 to 3000 for a second or two before upshifting and lowering the rpms. The truck now also has random clunking when shifting into reverse from dead stop. The transmission does not shutter but there is definite loss of power and that can be contributed to a bad torque convertor. If it is not locking up correctly when in gear power will suffer to the convertor failing to engage the transmission correctly. The shifting issue have persisted and gotten worse. Dealer said he put a computer on it and said there were no codes. The dealer mechanic did not even try to road test the truck That is just ridiculous. I will be taking the truck in again

Jan 9, 2023

I drove approximately 8 miles to lunch and parked the truck. It sat about an hour and when I started the truck to leave I had a message to service esc and power steering reduced. The tuck had no power steering. Returns to work and the truck sat about ten minutes. Then everything started normal and is fine.

Shaking an jerking in transmission in all gears.could be a serious issue if it locks up or stops pulling at speed or in heavy traffic

Dec 21, 2022

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado has a known issue with the torque converters and they are currently on back order and our service manager told us we are able to drive with it messed up and that it would not cause anymore damage but it causes transmission lockup and engine lockup which results in loss of control.

Oct 24, 2022

Vehicle exhibited sudden loss of power at highway speed while in West Texas. Without warning, the vehicle displayed an "engine power reduced" message and the vehicle immediately slowed from highway speed to a maximum speed of 25mph. This sudden reduction in power required the drive to take emergency action to leave lanes of travel for the shoulder. On a road with insufficient shoulder-area, this could have resulted in a collision. Prior to the loss of power, a check engine light illuminated followed by a "Service Emissions System Soon" warning on the driver information display. The elapsed time between the messages and the loss of power was less than 5 minutes. The vehicle did not exhibit any erratic behavior at the time of the warning lights or prior to the loss of power. The vehicle is currently at Bill Estes Ford in Indianapolis, IN. Diagnosis is underway. Indications are that this is related to issues with the emissions control system. The vehicle was up to date on all service at the time of the incident.

Oct 19, 2022

Sunset jerking of vehicle, hesitation of vehicle when accelerator is hit at random times, when taking off from a traffic light or while cruising. If simmering need to get out of the way this could lead to vehicle hesitation and safety issues that could cause a crash. No errors were given in computer when dealership looked at it.

Torque converter faulty and told vehicle unsafe to drive. Only about 12,000 miles on vehicle. It was skipping gears while driving. It appeared initially very small and almost unnoticeable, but got worse over time going back a few weeks at least. The dealer has had the vehicle for over 30 days and cannot get the part shipped to them. They told me it MAY be shipped on October 22, while I dropped the car the first week of September.. Being told it is unsafe to drive, it definitely put us in danger driving it. Service Bulletin so they know about the problem: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10184489-9999.pdf

Truck mileage approx 26000 miles. 2 wiring harness locations rubbed wires enough to cause wire to wire contact resulting in 1 location, burnt wires, according to service tech and the other resulted in truck malfunction. Threw numerous codes, transmission repeatedly went P, D, P, D....unable to put in park for sometime and then finally was able to. Additionally, when serviced out of state, was recommended to have service done for leaky oil pan. Upon returning to home state, truck went in for oil leak, was returned due to parts ordered because it's leaking at the rear main seal and not the oil pan. Waiting on this service to occur.

Sep 8, 2022

My truck felt like running over rumble strips. At 17500 miles they replaced my torque converter under warranty. Now at 24690 miles they had to replace again, under warranty. With less than 25000 miles it is on it's 3rd torque converter. I fear that transmission is being damaged and feel Chevrolet needs to admit there is a problem. My current dealer calls it a lifetime warranty, with lots of strings, but Chevrolet should protect me.

Sep 3, 2022

My Silverado 1500 has developed torque converter shudder again over the course of the past few days. My current mileage is around 42,000. This is actually the second time this has happened on my specific vehicle and the current torque converter is actually the second, as I had my other one replaced after being confirmed by a dealer several months ago. I have only managed to drive around 10,000 miles between the replacement of the first part and the start of the second one failing. For information regarding the first failure please use reference ID 11458308. This has not yet been confirmed by a dealer, but I'm scheduled to get this serviced on Tuesday. I am certain that is what this is as this happened so recently. Primarily while driving at highways speeds between 1500 - 2000 RPM my Silverado will continuously surge forward every few seconds with a notable clunking in the rear. While this is happening I will watch my tachometer bounce up and down approximately 300 RPMs constantly, despite the fact cruise is set and this is on flat ground. The problem gets worse while driving uphill and increases the magnitude of the clunking/shaking. Under light throttle acceleration my truck will have a vibration coming from under the vehicle that feels exactly like driving over a rumble strip. This was the sensation that helped the dealer identify this as torque converter shudder the first time. No warning lights were present at time of incident.

Jul 20, 2022

My truck had been randomly misfiring but the dealership couldn’t resolve the issue because the check engine light would go away on the way there. They were able to pull codes showing a misfire taking place and told me to return if it continued. The truck started having misfire issues again periodically fir the next 2 weeks but once the check engine light stayed on I scheduled an appointment. On the way to the appointment to Hidiburg Chevrolet we were on the interstate the cruise control kicked off, the service parking brake indicator, misfire flashing of check engine light, an ESC warning, and the traction control light came on as the truck randomly pulled to the right real quick then it stopped. Once the indicators went off all warning indicators were off and cruise control would not work. The dealership pulled codes and saw every cylinder misfired and that the other issues that took place. They tested everything and could not find the source and said that they had to wait until the indicator stayed on so they could see the issue. I left with no resolution and concern that when the misfiring could damage parts and the computer. I also fear that the issue if someone isn’t aware of vehicles not fixed could lead to severe accidents and potential for death if not fixed.

Vehicle had several lights on dashboard and messages, service brake system, engine power reduced, service trailer brake controller, service esc, service power steering. Vehicle lost power steering and brakes were nearly all impossible to push…luckily I was near my house and got home safe, my family or myself could’ve been seriously hurt

Mar 25, 2022

Vehicle developed a sensation at approximately 28,000 miles similar to driving over a rumble strip. At approximately 32,000 miles this was diagnosed as a failing torque convertor. There are TSBs related to this for the 8 speed transmission, but dealer stated no known TSBs exist for the 6 speed. The truck is currently in the shop getting the torque convertor replaced and should be available for pick-up in the upcoming week. Rumble strip sensation occurred under light throttle acceleration and presented more frequently on an incline. There were occurrences on flat ground, but this was not as common. The vibration occurred most often at highway speeds of around 70 MPH, but also occurred several times in the ranges of 20-30 and 40-50 MPH. Tachometer reading during these occurrences was around 1,500 - 2,000 RPM. Issue was intermittent and would come and go. Most of the time the sensation was mild, but periodically the vibration would be severe enough the driver felt like he had been rear-ended. A separate symptom would occur while going up hills and the tachometer would bounce up and down approximately 300 RPMs with a noticeable surging sensation. When presenting, the vehicle would surge forward every few seconds until the hill had been crested. This only occurred at highway speeds with cruise set and would not present when the rumble strip vibration was present.

I was driving down I27 10 miles south of Lubbock when my 2020 Silverado 1500 3.0 Diesel engine stopped accelerating. I was going 75 miles per hour and the truck just stopped causing trauma for me and my family we were lucky enough to get to the side of the road. I ended up calling gm roadside assistance and they sent a tow truck to pick us and the truck up. The truck wouldn't engage into drive nor reverse. Once towed to the dealership, Gene Messer Chevrolet, in Lubbock, Texas, a service tech mentioned that a ton of the lifters bending push rods are going out on the late 2019, 2020 model silverado due to cheaper lifters added to the vehicles due to Covid shortage supplies. In essence, they wanted to get these models out with no regard to safety of the consumer. I'm not pleased with the craftsmanship GM has lined out on these trucks, this could've ended way worst. They jeopardized my families safety for profits. Right now the truck is still awaiting diagnostics still won't drive nor reverse per dealer service tech. It's just a terrible situation, the truck is new only has 25,500 miles on it, this needs to be recalled.

Feb 2, 2022

Upon starting the vehicle for the second time one day, when placing the automatic transmission into 'D' - Drive, it began to roll backwards as if it was in Neutral on a slight decline and the brakes had to be applied to avoid rolling downhill backwards. After attempting to place it back into 'P' - Park and back into 'D' - Drive and attempting to try 'R' Reverse to try to get it to move forward properly, it would not go forward. After several tries and restarting the vehicle completely, it finally attempted to move forward but would only do so at a reduced speed and would not respond to the accelerator pedal beyond a certain amount. After trying again, it appeared to move forward a bit better, but then upon stopping at a stoplight and attempting to pull out for a left turn onto the road, the speed again was reduced and I had to immediately place it into 'R' - Reverse to avoid an accident due to oncoming traffic. Finally I was able to get it to move forward a bit better and was heading directly for the dealership but since the power just was not getting to the wheels (transmission?) I pulled over and shut off the truck for a few minutes. Upon starting the truck again, it seemed to move forward better after that but had the 'check engine light' illuminated. The truck is at the dealership now, they have had it nearly a week and said they will not begin to look at it for another week at least since they only have 2 technicians who can look at it.

IN MAY I PURCHASES A 2020 SILVERADO. ON DECEMBER 05TH, 2020. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE HEADING HOME FROM MY SON'S FOOTBALL GAME . THE "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE VEHICLE'S DASHBOARD. BRAKING BECAME SLUGGISH AND STIFF. I INITIAL THOUGHT THE BRAKE FLUID HAD HAD LEAKED OUT. THE VEHICLE MAINTAINED POWER TO ALL OTHER SYSTEMS. ONCE HOME I CHECKED THE ENGINE BAY AND BRAKE CALIBERS AND FOUND THEM TO BE INTACT. AT THIS TIME THE VEHICLE HAS 12,400 MILES. AFTER A INITIAL ASSESSMENT, WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE A "COMPUTER GLITCH" THAT WAS EFFECTING THE TRANSMISSION AND BRAKE SENSORS. THE BRAKE MODULE WAS REPLACED AND TRANSMISSION "SOFTWARE" WAS UPDATED. THIS WAS COMPLETED ON DECEMBER 09TH, 2020. UPON COMPLETION THE TECHS CONDUCTING A "DRIVE TEST", AT WHICH TIME THE WARNING APPEARED AGAIN. MY VEHICLE REMAINS AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, WHILE THEY "TROUBLESHOOT" THE PROBLEM. DUE TO THE VAGUE RESPONSES BEING PROVIDED BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE STAFF AND THE LACK OF AN ESTIMATED TIME LINE FOR THE COMPLETION OF THE REPAIRS. I BELIEVE THERE IS A MUCH LARGER ISSUE THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO REVEAL.

WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START FROM A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN THE AUTO START/STOP FUNCTION HAS STOPPED THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE WILL FREQUENTLY HESITATE TO START, THEN ONCE STARTED EXHIBITS UNUSUAL ENGINE/TRANSMISSION BEHAVIOR. THIS TRUCK IS NOW ON ITS FIFTH CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT SERVICE FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES OF THE AUTO START/STOP FUNCTION. THE GM ONSTAR DIAGNOSTICS REPORTS INDICATE 2 FAILURE MODES, ONE WITH THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION AND THE OTHER WITH THE LITHIUM-ION BATTERY. I HAVE SEVERAL CONCERNS. 1, I MAY BE STRANDED AT AN INTERSECTION WITH A VEHICLE THAT WILL NOT RESTART AND/OR HAS STALLED IN THE INTERSECTION AND 2, THE LITHIUM-ION BATTERY WILL FAIL CATASTROPHICALLY LEADING TO A VEHICLE FIRE.

REPETITIVE FAULTS OF THE AUTO START/STOP SYSTEM. I HAVE NOTIFICATIONS ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE FROM THE ONSTART DIAGNOSTICS SERVICE OF TWO IDENTICAL FAULTS. ONE, A DEFECT WITH THE ENGINE & TRANSMISSION SYSTEM AND ONE A DEFECT WITH THE LITHIUM-ION BATTERY. TO DATE THERE HAS NOT BEEN AN EFFECTIVE REPAIR. THE LATEST ATTEMPT, REPLACING THE LITHIUM-ION BATTERY, SOMEHOW HAS FORCED THE SYSTEM TO NO LONGER FUNCTION UNDER ANY CONDITION. DRIVING CONDITIONS VARIED EACH TIME.

THE TRUCK HAS ~3000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK AT HIGHWAY SPEED (65 MPH), A WARNING CAME ON THE DASH "ENGINE POWER REDUCED", FOLLOWED BY A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND THEN THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE THROTTLE/GAS PEDAL. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT NO POWER WAS AVAILABLE WHEN PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF OF THE HIGHWAY; HOWEVER, IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED CROSSING TRAFFIC OR ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. I WAS SURPRISED AND SHOCKED TO SEE A NEW TRUCK PROVIDE ZERO POWER FROM THE GAS PEDAL. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT RISK TO CONSUMERS, DRIVERS, AND OTHER CARS ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN I PUT THE TRUCK ON A CODE READER, I RECEIVED THE CODE P26C0. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP STATED THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THESE ISSUES WITH THE 3.0 DURAMAX DIESEL.

2020 SILVERADO 1500 CUSTOM CREW CAB 4.6L, V6. PURCHASED TRUCK ONAUGUST 10, 2020. TOOK IT TO DEALER ON AUGUST 17, 2020 BECAUSE OF JERKING FORWARD AT LOW SPEED (20-25 MPH) AND REAR BRAKES MAKING A DEEP RUBBING SOUND. OF COURSE, TECHNICIAN SAID THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS (BECAUSE HE COULD NOT DUPLICATE) THE JERKING MOTION. AFTER PICKING UP MY TRUCK, I NOTICED THAT THEY DID NOT EVEN ADDRESS THE BRAKE ISSUE, NOR DID THE SERVICE ADVISOR NOTE IT ON THE FORM.

I WAS STOPPED N THE DRIVE THRU AT IN-N-OUT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE ECO SYSTEM HAD TURNED OFF THE MOTOR. IT SPONTANEOUSLY TURNED BACK ON WITHOUT ME LIFTING MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE AND THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGED AND THE TRUCK LAUNCHED FORWARD APPROXIMATELY 12-18 INCHES. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME. IT ALSO HAPPENED ONE NIGHT ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS, I COULD HAVE HIT SOMEONE OR THEIR CAR OR I COULD HAVE EVEN RECEIVED WHIPLASH MYSELF. *TR

PUT TRUCK INTO PARK AND SHUT OFF, STARTED TO GET OUT BUT TRUCK WAS STARTING TO ROLL, TRIED TO STOP IT, PUSHED ON BRAKES, NO EFFECT, KEPT ROLLING AND GAINED MOMENTUM TILL IT HIT OUR CABIN AND STOPPED. LENGTH WAS 200FT APPX OF ROLL. MESSAGE CENTER SAID " PRESS BRAKE TO START " WHICH I WAS DOING AS IT GAINED SPEED. ALSO DURING ROLL THERE WAS A RATCHETING SOUND ALL THE WAY DURING THE 200FT ROLL WHICH IN DESCRIBING IT TO DEALER I WAS TOLD PARKING PAWL MAY NOT HAVE ENGAGED PROPERLY CAUSING THAT SOUND. I WAS ABLE TO START VEHICLE AFTER IT HIT CABIN SO I COULD ROLL IT BACK AWAY FROM CABIN. STARTED TRUCK AFTER ACCIDENT, NO WARNING LIGHTS ON, BRAKES WORKED. IN RURAL AZ, ON OUR PROPERTY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. TAKING TO DEALER TOMORROW.
