My truck started acting sluggish like the parking brake was applied while driving. At a traffic light I put the vehicle in park applied and released the parking brake. I put the vehicle back in gear an let off the brake. The vehicle did not move so slightly pressed the accelerator. The vehicle still acted as if the brakes were applied. I could feel the slight movement and torque being applied but only slightly lurching. The traffic light turned green so I proceeded up to 45mph. A vehicle in front of me slowed to make a turn. Applied the brakes and nothing happened. I pressed the brake so hard that I lifted myself off the seat. I swerved to miss the vehicle avoiding a collision. Then warnings started popping up; "brake system failure max speed 62mph", "brake system failure max speed 42mph", Brake system failure", service traction control", "service trailer baking system". among others I was too busy to see all of them. I coasted to a stop in a nearby parking lot with visual and audible warnings still going. I shut the vehicle off then restarted it. Some warnings remained like traction control and the engine light. The vehicle appeared to be operating correctly so I drove it to a local dealer. they said there was a code for low voltage in the brake control module but couldn't get me an appointment for over two weeks. I took the vehicle to a regular mechanic who said what I described was impossible. That mechanic kept my truck for the balance of the day but could find nothing wrong. I no longer trust this vehicles brake system. In many scenarios the failure, were it to happen again could be catastrophic.

Brakes would not release after driving a little ways the brake system failure warning came on. I stopped and killed engine and restarted but it lunged and I lost all braking. I pulled over to side of road and again killed engine a couple minutes I restarted it released. Then drove normal. ????

Nov 16, 2025

While driving it said "service ESC", "brake system failure" and then "trailer brake system failure" "max speed 62." Brakes when pressed would not work. Had to cruise to stop. When truck shut down and restarted it said "max speed 43" and check engine light came on. Truck was then towed to mechanic and waiting to be looked at/worked on.

There was a brake system failure and the brakes stopped working while going 50 mph

Oct 31, 2025

While driving on a residential side street my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (81,996 miles) suddenly lost power steering and braking with no waring. Several messages appeared in the dash and the check engine light illuminated. I was able get the vehicle safely to the shoulder and put in park without power steering or brakes. At this point the engine stalled and would not restart. The vehicle was towed to the nearest Chevy dealer on 10/29/2025. The technician verified the loss of power steering, brakes, and several other codes and diagnosed the issue as corroded engine grounding straps per GM bulletin #23-NA-201. The grounding straps were replaced and the codes cleared. The technician test drove the vehicle and verified normal operation after the repair. I was responsible for paying the full cost of these repairs as my vehicle was out of warranty. I feel incredibly fortunate that this happened on a residential side street with no traffic. Had this failure happened on the expressway while pulling my 4,000 lb trailer, this could have been a fatal accident if I suddenly lost power steering, brakes and had the engine stall like it did. I see multiple complaints for this issue on the NHTSA website and the GM TSB for this issue dates back to 2023. I am shocked that this is not a nationwide recall yet. It is a significant safety threat to the driver and others. I also know this is not an isolated incident, as my service advisor at the dealer suggested it was probably the grounding straps before the technician even inspected my vehicle. It was pretty clear from our conversation that I was not the first vehicle they had repaired with this issue.

Aug 2, 2025

Rear brake inner pads completely worn while outer pads look brand new at 35,000 miles. This appears to be due to the electronic parking brake not releasing quick enough but this condition almost disables the rear brakes and could cause an accident.

Jun 17, 2025

Vehicle started and behaved as expected when leaving my home and for a dozen lights or so between my home and place of the incident. While stopped at a red light, the auto stop function shut the truck down as normal. On re-start when getting green light, after releasing brake pressure, the start up was belabored for two turnovers before starting up. As I pulled off the stop with a green light, the dash lights illuminated and display started rolling through system failures, one of which was the brakes system and ESC. I cautiously proceeded through my turn to a thankfully quiet intersection as the brakes were completely unresponsive. I had ZERO brake function. I was able to slowly come to a rolling stop enough to get the truck in park where I turned it off and back on and the brake function returned. I cautiously drove to the local chevy dealer where I was informed that the battery drain pulls from low voltage when it needs extra power for start up. This is utterly terrifying that it is even possible for the battery to start the truck WITHOUT ANY BRAKE FUNCTION. Had this happened just two lights before or after where I was, it would have been a news headline. I could have easily been headed up and over a bridge leading to a catastrophic event at the bottom where I would have been completely unable to stop my truck by any means other than a collision. I would have preferred a dead battery at a red light. Seems a whole lot safer. I'm now stressed beyond measure at the thought of some failure in the future that could lead to another event such as this. My truck is now a nightmare wondering what electrical malfunction is going to put me and/or my wife and daughter in a life or death situation, let alone others on the road. This shouldn't even be an option for the truck to start at the expense of a critical safety function. Not to mention there is no function for the auto start stop system to be deactivated permanently by my choice. I am beside myself and scared to drive.

The rear brakes of the vehicle are locking up while driving. The truck is a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab and 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 are listed as included in the recall per the NHTSA Campaign # 24V797000 recall. When searching the VIN number of our vehicle, [XXX] , it states that it is not included in the recall and has no unrepaired recalls. Our vehicle is experiencing the issue as outlined in the recall notice but is not currently included in the recall when it should be. The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the front wheels seized, and the contact was forced to pull over to the side of the road to restart the vehicle. This failure reoccurred a second time and while pulling over the front wheels seized, and the brake pad and rotors were visibly red. No warning lights were illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Transmission is changing out very hard in each gear. On tonight while I was driving, I lost speed on the interstate and when I push the accelerator, It was like back wheels were locked up. I left it at the next exit gas station and came back and towed it home. Lucky I was able to put hazard lights on and get off the side of the road but it was very slow speed. Yes I have had it look at certified dealer under Cheverolet. It was no warning light. I was going 65 and in a split second the rpm went up high and I was doing like 25. Once I finally made it to the gas station and got out the truck smell like a burning smell

I have the L87 6.2 liter V8 engine from General Motors. I had sudden engine failure. Apparently the rods and bearings are bad. It is the same problem as the recall issued for 2021-2024 vehicles, exept for my truck is a year 2020. Feb 13, 2025

My break system failed twice in 2 weeks. On Feb 01, 2025 around 5:35 pm, I almost ran over a dog the first time because I lost access to breaks and emergency breaks and could not stop going through my neighborhood. Today on Feb 13, 2025, I had picked my son up from school, and the breaks went out after we left the school. This time I almost ran into a car but had to turn off to the right to avoid hitting it. My son and I could have injured the person driving in front of us and ourselves. I looked up the problem, and it seems that many others have faced the same problem. When I turned off the truck for 10 minutes, the system would reset itself and start working normally again. I took the truck to the shop, and it is currently there so they can run tests on it. I recorded what it looks like on the dash when I lose all braking.

Feb 10, 2025

After driving and doing errands I tried to pull truck into garage and noticed it was hard to move. It seemed like brakes were stuck on despite not applying brakes. I pulled out of driveway to drive around block. Lost all brakes while driving down county road at 50 mph. Check engine light on, brake failure warning on, warning light that speed limited to 43 mph, ABS light on. Eventually able to stop. Turned off engine for a few minutes. Restarted and brakes all worked again although check engine light still on. This could have been deadly on a steep road or on ice or in traffic. I see online that this is a common problem with Chevy trucks although no recall has been issued for this one. I am very concerned that this truck is not safe - for me or anyone else on the road with me. I have not taken it in. I live in the country, some distance from a dealership so nothing has been confirmed. Nothing like this has happened to this truck before and there was no other warning. It is available for inspection but is my only transportation.

Jan 28, 2025

This morning it was 16 degrees F I drove about 6 city miles at about 35 mph. I was 1.5 miles from home when leaving a stop light the truck bogged down and was only going up to about 25 mph with the tach at 2000 rpm. It seemed at first that I was driving with the parking brake on but most V8's have enough power to override the parking brake. This acted as if I was pressing hard on the foot brake while driving and giving it a lot of gas. I probably would have had to floor it to go any faster. But was afraid of damaging something. Put on the flashers and drove about 15 mph with the tach at 1500-2000rpm. The dash displayed "Brake system failure 62 mph top speed", "Service ESC", "Parking brake failure" and "Service trailer brake system", The brake pedal was changing its height by itself. Pulled to side of road and pumped the brakes several times, shifted the transmission through park, neutral, reverse and drive and it seemed to operate normally. Pulled onto road and it was bogging down the same. Pulled to side of road again. Then started driving again with flashers on and the tranny shifted as normal, but the brake pedal went to the floor. Pumped the brake pedal and it still went to the floor. Drove slowly while checking the brake occasionally but still went to the floor during the 5 blocks to my driveway. The brake had no effect. My driveway slopes slightly upward so I stopped safely. All four wheel centers and brake rotors were too hot to touch after slowly driving the 1.5 miles this occurred over. About 15 minutes later I turned on the key and the dash displayed "Brake system failure 43 mph top speed", "Service ESC", and "Service trailer brake system". Fortunately there were no vehicles close in front of me when this started and many were behind me when driving with my flashers on due to quite a bit of traffic. This could have been a disaster had it occurred somewhere else. The local Chevrolet dealer that services it has not seen it yet.

• lifters, cam, manifold; failed. no warning, nothing just seized up • left with no power, braking system locked up. • yes; occurred January 2024. everything replaced. received back in March 2024, 10k miles later transmission begins shuttering. January 2025 lifters failed again. • yes it has been evaluated by dealership. they just throw their hands up. • no warning lights prior, driving in winter 30-40degrees weather. brakes seized, truck haulted and upon attempting to accelerate the motor was knocking and done for. January 13th. 11:51AM 2024

Jan 22, 2025

Vehicle has been in and out of service for the past 5 months with multiple alerts including "Brake system failure 43mph top speed," "service esc," "service brake assist." On major interstate car would not accelerate past 43mph putting myself, infant, toddler, and wife in danger. Multiple attempts have been made to repair the vehicle and nothing has been successful. Lifters, CAM, torque converter, EBCM, master cylinder, calipers, and the list goes on. When this happens the brake is extremely hard to press making it difficult to stop the vehicle. Issue has been reproduced by dealer and attempts have been made under warranty to repair. Car only has 36k miles on it and the issue began prior to that. GM ongoing solution is to bleed the brakes, which clearly has not resolved the issue. Still hear ticking and noises from engine. Something needs to be done to remedy this issue. This is a safety hazard for myself, my family, and everyone driving around me.

Jan 21, 2025

Upon entering a roadway from a parking lot I noticed my vehicle struggling to gain speed. I lifted my foot from the gas pedal and the truck rapidly reduced speed, dropping from 25 mph to less than 5mph in a couple of seconds. I then reapplied the gas pedal to attemp to avoid the vehicle approaching from the rear. The truck struggled again to gain speed. I went about 150 yards toward an intersection. I applied the brake and pushed it to the floor as the truck barely slowed to a stop. Had there been any vehicle stopped in front of me I would have hit it and pushed it into the intersection. The dashboard lit up with warning lights and rotating messages such as, Brake system failure 62 mph top speed, Service trailer break.when the traffic light turned green I drove it across the intersection into a parking lot, going about 5 mph for 50 yards. Putting my foot back on the brake as hard as I could. It finally came to a stop about twenty feet farther than it should have. I had it towed to a Chevrolet dealership. They did a diagnostic test and checked all braking components. They found a service bulletin for recalibration of brake system control module. They preformed the calibration and cleared the codes. After reading the many reports of this happening on the NHTSA site and the absolute possibility of injuries and deaths, I find it hard to believe that with knowing this problem exists and it’s disastrous potential, that there has not been a recall after 5 years of complaints.

Jan 20, 2025

While driving home truck began to misfire and drop in RPM’s. Service ESC and Service Parking Brake popped up on my notification system. My Engine light was blinking and my Traction light was on. While i was turning into my street to get home, my engine shut off. The steering wheel and brakes became hard as the motor wasn't powering them. I was able to turn it on and get it into my drive way. Afterwards when trying to turn it on, it would turn on and shut off immediately. Chevy replaces a fuel pump module for a second time(recall), added a new starter and battery. After Three months they then told me I need a new engine because it has locked itself up. I purchased the vehicle with 32,000 miles and It currently has 49,000 miles. Chevrolet are not going to warranty me a new engine because i do my own oil changes (which were 2). Had this happened on the highway or in traffic, i would've been at a high risk of causing an accident considering power steering and brake system was not working properly.

Driving at the speed limit 65-70 miles ph my truck started to slow in speed the tire sensor came on then the truck began to smoke and the brakes locked up at a high speed, lucky for me there was no one behind me. I was able to limp to a safe spot and park the truck would not MOVE at all..After an hour I tried to move it again it would not go into drive. Had to tow it to the dealership..$$$$ later they say well we can't recreate the problem so it's drivable. I drive 2 blocks and it stops in traffic almost causing a collision. Had it towed home and for 3 moths now it has sat while I have to continue paying payments on a NON running 2020 with only 102 thousand miles on it this is CRIMINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! was told possible $62k to repair but no guarantee it would stay fixed!!!!!!!!!! Criminal and should not be on me I am paying still. But if something is not done I will let it get repo..I am [XXX] old this was to be my last newer vehicle I have had to borrow money again and bought an older 03 silverado that is running great. The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the brake pad sensor warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.

While driving, the vehicle began experiencing hard shifting. When I attempted to accelerate to pull over, the vehicle failed to respond and instead sounded as though it was in neutral. Additionally, when I tried to bring the vehicle to a stop, it took longer than usual, as if the wheels were locked.

Dec 3, 2024

Brake system lights on dash came on as well as the check engine light. Park light was flashing on the dash. Safety is at risk as parking brake does not work. Took vehicle to dealer and they ran diagnostics. Codes: c0610 05, c0616 5a as per document id: 5709204. They said I need a new Brake System Control Module. Brake System Control Modules are on backorder. Brake System Control Modules have been recalled on Silverados in the past. I'm worried that this is unsafe

Brake failure. I took the Truck to the dealer and was told not to drive it. The dealer ran two checks and then said brake failure. The rep had to leave, so another rep put my car in the shop overnight. The next day, I was told in writing that they could not find any problem. The code clearly showed brake failure. Date: [XXX]. Cost: $125.69. Mileage was 53,531. On [XXX], another brake failure. I went to an auto parts dealer (O Riley) in Topeka, KS, and they found a brake failure code(I have a copy). They told me to go to the dealer. I went to the dealer with a stiff pedal, which means driving is very unsafe. The dealer said too busy with oil changes and told me to return another day. I said no breaks INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

We went to an appointment and when we got back in the car, a message was on the screen. It said that the brake system has failed and we could only drive 43 mph maximum! The engine light was on and we could not accelerate beyond 43 mph. This is extremely dangerous when driving on a highway! We drove home on the interstate going 43 mph in a 70 mph zone! We had small children in the car and almost got into a few accidents due to other aggressive drivers. We then called local dealers who said that they were too busy to take our truck for weeks! They also said that our truck was not covered under warranty. So we took it to a local body shop. They fixed it for just above $500. It worked for a week and broke again, then they fixed it again for free. The brake failure 43 mph light came on for the 3rd time. We took it Garber and they fixed it after 2 weeks and charged us a fortune. Invoice attached. A few weeks later the same light came back on. Garber then took another 2 weeks to fix it! I’m writing here as I’ve seen other silverados recalled for the same issue but not my exact truck (year). It’s obviously faulty software and it should not be the customers responsibility to fix. Especially with a vehicle under 20k miles! There is absolutely no way that we will ever buy a GM again but the important part here is that other people are not put into a dangerous situation like we were. Besides dealing with this issue for well over a month - the important part is safety. I can’t understand how these trucks have the same problems but only certain VINs qualify for a recall. Please consider our truck as part of the overall recall for this issue. It’s unethical to pick and choose only certain VINs!

The Electronic Steering assist stopped working while I was driving to work. Was leaving a stop sign and steering wheel became stuff and notifications on dash appeared. Was able to get to side of the road and turned vehicle off for 20-30 mins and started back up and steering was normal. Notifications on the dash were: Service Power Steering and Service Trailer Braking System. Search online showed this is a known issue that has happened with these vehicles for years and clearly hasnt been addressed. This is very dangerous. Vehicle has 42k miles on it. I had the "Service Trailer Braking System" notification come on a couple times previously and steering felt "sloppy" but immediately went away. And Ive never used the trailer braking system so I didnt think anything of it.

Aug 28, 2024

While driving 55+mph on a parkway the service parking brake, check engine light and the traction control light came on with a warning "Engine Power Reduced" which was dangerous because I could not accelerate and there was not a spot to pull over. This is frustrating due to the fact that I was having this same issue 6 months ago and Chevrolet said it was a wiring issue and it wasn't covered by the warranty because it had 42k miles. Chevrolet said it was a known issue but it was not at the level of a recall and it cost $1800 to fix.

Jun 10, 2024

While driving on the interstate, my entire display panel/information queue lit up and my information display issued crazy and bizarre warnings. When this happened (I was traveling around 60 mph) immediately pulled off on an exit only to find that my brakes were out/nonexistent and my emergency break button not responding. Luckily and by the grace of God, there were no other vehicles or pedestrians in my line of travel on this exit, the exit fortunately happened to be on an uphill incline/climb which aided in slowing my truck to slow down to a complete stop, and neither I or any other person or vehicles were harmed during this incident. Was told by the Jim Ellis Chevrolet of Atlanta Chevrolet Service Manager (who by the way was a great help and resource through all of this) informed that there was a software “glitch” that had caused all this to happen. I never was told of or was informed of any software “updates” nor had any Chevrolet Dealer Service Department updated this software “glitch” when my truck was given to them for all GM mileage-tiered full service recommendations.

While driving brakes failed and codes came on saying brake system failure 43 mph, this problem apparently is a programming issue that will cost over 600 dollars because “reprogramming” isn’t covered. Brake pads were over 50% life and it is a very dangerous error.

May 1, 2024

Around 35k miles had an engine lifter fail and needed to be replaced, covered under warranty. 07/2023 - Had front pads/rotors replaced by Chevy dealer and had loud squeaking ever since. Contacted dealer and was told they are new pads so will just need time to break in. Contacted the dealer again in Sept.Oct. 2023 and brought vehicle in for service for noise concern. They informed me the noise is coming from the rear brakes that was reported as 60% life two months prior. They replaced the rear rotors/pads and noise persisted. Brought vehicle back to dealer in December, they performed a serviced but was ineffective. In March 24 started getting some vibrations when stopping. Brought vehicle for servicing, stated there are rust spots on rotors but everything is wearing fine so this will not be covered under warranty. Also that they do not warranty sounds due to pads can have more metallics then others and they cannot determine which ones do not. I looked under forums and GM Pads seem to be a common issue with noise. My truck was perfectly fine before these brake products were installed and I would like GM to be held accountable for there inferior products leading to loud break noises and violent vibrations while braking !

rear brake failure on my 2020 silverado..at 25000 miles.. had my truck in to dealer last may (hamilton chevrolet warren mich) for a oil change and rotate tires, also noticed grooves in rear discs..had them check out rear brakes at that time20000 miles, came back ok.had truck in last friday1-26-24 ,oil change tire rotation now at 25000 rear brakes shot ..rear brakes shouldnt be an maint item till 60-80k ..i looked for answers on line seems to be common problem. im 67 owned a lot of vehicles not one required rear brakes this soon . bought this truck new original owner..

Truck shudders, with varying degrees of vibration, emtek applying brakes. It is especially rough when applying brakes on the highway as it feels like it could lose steering control. Shaking is also very noticeable at slow speeds. Have had rear brakes serviced and problem persists. As of this month, the "service ESC (electronic stability control)" light has come on, along with other faults on the dash. VIN does not indicate unrepaired recalls, but this issue makes the drive feel dangerous

Oct 16, 2023

Brake calipers on 3 of 4 wheels are trying to lock up. Only 54000 miles on the truck this should not be an issue. Could KILL someone

Sep 1, 2023

About a month ago I noticed some intense shaking in my 2020 Silverado 1500 RST when braking. The shaking is not only felt in the seat and steering wheel, but is also observable in the dash and in the gear shifter. Due to the obvious concern, I made an appointment with the dealer who, after inspection, stated that all 4 rotors were warped due to overheating. I mostly use the truck on the highway, tow a river raft (easily carried by 2 people) on a small trailer 2 times a year (about 70 miles roundtrip), have never used the bed with excess weight, do not ride my brakes when driving, and I live in Alaska where the temperature is cool (high temps rarely exceeding mid 60's). The brake status report on my dash presently shows my original brake pad life to be 83% on the front and 89% on the rear which was inline with the dealer report that the brake pads were still quite thick. These prove that the brakes have not been overused or abused. According to Kaufman and Associates website, "General Motors is recalling over 350,000 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and GM Sierra pick-up trucks due to a fault in the brake system....The issue involved a lack of heat-treatment for the bolts used to attach both the front and rear calipers.....The issue comes down to long-term performance and safety....Untreated bolts run the risk of breaking under loads, and this can result in braking issues, wheel rotation problems, and internal damage to other parts of the truck. These trucks also suffered from brake system control module and premature brake wear issues, and countless owners have reported brake system issues as varied as check engine lights to outright brake failure." According to the local dealer, my VIN isn't included in the recall and they cannot fix it until it is included (or I dish out $2k). It seems obvious that the issue in my truck is the same that led to the recall of the other 350,000 trucks and I simply need my VIN added so that it can be fixed before catastrophic brake failure.

Was riding down the road and my front left caliber locked up had break fluid running down from the upper reservoir the truck only has 46,000 miles. the truck was immobile had to have it towed and had to get a new caliber and took the shop almost a week to get air out the system breaks are still not 100 percent also rear breaks are having a problem fully releasing as well. Leaves me worried the rear breaks will seize up as well cost me 1000 dollars for the repairs

Vehicle is at 67,xxx miles. Vehicle is losing power, check engine light, service 4wd, service esc, service power steering, service parking brake..... the gas pedal has locked on me already with my 3 small children in the truck at highway speeds. GM says it's fine. I have all the work orders where 2 different dealerships have "corrected" these issues under warranty. Go retrieve the vehicle and within a week Vehicle is back acting up. This truck is unsafe to drive on the roadway. I have not been offered a courtesy vehicle to drive while "warranty" work is being done. I am appalled and in fear for my children and my own life with this truck.

Power Train Transmission Torque Converter “Chevy Shake” Multiple symptoms. - Shuttering , “ buffeting” , slipping sensation. Continuous almost like “strong wind gust” or “head wind” - Humming, if you have ever heard a “high pressure” hydraulic equipment. - RPM bounces 300 to 500, but transmission does not “down shift” (while driving) - Vibration, of the truck can be noticed, felt at various speeds, 40mph to 60mph(shutter) almost like it struggling to get up to speed (unless heavy on the gas pedal) 70mph and above to say 80mph, then shaking, vibrations worse when coasting back to 70 mph Vibration will “not stop” until truck speed is drastically slowed or come to a stop. - Steering wheel “shakes” , “vibrates” also can happen at 60mph to 70mph and above to say 80mph, then worse when coasting back to 70 mph - “Clunk” when stopped and shifting into “reverse” (new development symptom) Vehicle is in for inspection. It keeps reading service break system. Service ESC

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the trailer disconnected from the tow hitch. Additionally, the trailer brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and brake switch was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to GM PIT: 5948A. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.

I drove approximately 8 miles to lunch and parked the truck. It sat about an hour and when I started the truck to leave I had a message to service esc and power steering reduced. The tuck had no power steering. Returns to work and the truck sat about ten minutes. Then everything started normal and is fine.

This could be a huge safety concern if the driver cannot select the correct vehicle being towed since the Brake Gain is stored in the Advanced Trailering system and then the incorrect amount of braking force will be applied to the vehicle while it is being driven, which could cause insufficient or excessive braking forces applied to the towed vehicle. This could lead to rear end crashes or Jack-Knifed crashes. The problem is random but repeatable quite frequently and has been confirmed by the Dealer (refer to included GM Bulletin PIT5792 Published on 11/5/2020) GM has been aware of this problem for almost 2 years and has not provided a fix for it. I have had this vehicle in the dealer on at least 3 occasions to fix the problem There is no advanced warning, message or other symptom prior to this problem. The problem started within a month of purchasing the vehicle

My truck had been randomly misfiring but the dealership couldn’t resolve the issue because the check engine light would go away on the way there. They were able to pull codes showing a misfire taking place and told me to return if it continued. The truck started having misfire issues again periodically fir the next 2 weeks but once the check engine light stayed on I scheduled an appointment. On the way to the appointment to Hidiburg Chevrolet we were on the interstate the cruise control kicked off, the service parking brake indicator, misfire flashing of check engine light, an ESC warning, and the traction control light came on as the truck randomly pulled to the right real quick then it stopped. Once the indicators went off all warning indicators were off and cruise control would not work. The dealership pulled codes and saw every cylinder misfired and that the other issues that took place. They tested everything and could not find the source and said that they had to wait until the indicator stayed on so they could see the issue. I left with no resolution and concern that when the misfiring could damage parts and the computer. I also fear that the issue if someone isn’t aware of vehicles not fixed could lead to severe accidents and potential for death if not fixed.

As I was backing out of a parking spot in a lot my vehicle lost it's power steering. I got an Service ESC error code, a wrench indicator, and a service power steering/drive with care warning. I also got a diagnostic alert from On Star. Diagnostic Alert: Service Antilock Breaking System in your 2020 Silveragod pithing the next 7 days. I was unable to move steering wheel, and could only pull my vehicle forward. So it was stuck sideways in the parking lot for about 20 minutes. My car did restart again and the code cleared. I was able to drive it to the dealer. They ran diagnostics but were unable to duplicate the concern. They did find a history of 1 fault where several modules (ECM, EBCM, TCM, TCCM) had lost communication with the power steering control module. They also looked at Data Com schematic doc 5257308 and found modules before connector X182 had lost communication. My safety was a risk in this situation because I was stuck sideways in a parking lot with very limited ability to move my vehicle for incoming or outgoing traffic. Had this happened while I was driving the vehicle in a roadway I believe it could have caused an accident. The dealership did find that a harness was making contact with the upper control arm bolt. They re-taped the harness and secured it away from the control arm bolt and bracket. A new bracket was ordered.

Jul 2, 2022

I was driving and a few different warning appeared. Service Parking Brake, Service Trailer Brake System, Steering Assist is reduced Drive with care. Along with these warning my speed was limited to 62 mph, my steering was reduced and my braking was reduced, all 3 of them to dangerous levels.

ABS light came on during breaking to avoid an accident and did not break the vehicle at all. Now there is a alert on the Driver Information Center(DIC) stating a break system failure.

Jun 13, 2022

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while stopped in her driveway, the vehicle started rolling forward. The brake pedal was depressed aggressively several times however, the brakes failed to respond. After several attempts, the vehicle came to a stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the mechanic stated that the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, there was no response. The failure mileage was 14,562.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle shutoff without warning. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the computer module was faulty. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, while driving, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle revved and there were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the same local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure after performing a test drive. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.

My 2020 Trail Boss recently had a break fail on the front right. The brakes are metal to metal and the brake sensor is reading 54% brake life left. GM says that there is only one brake sensor on the front of the truck and its on the right hand side. When I spoke to Chevy customer service I was told they have received several calls regarding this matter. Chevy service department is saying there is nothing wrong with any of the equipment, but I find it hard to believe that brakes wear this way normally. If they did I would think Chevy would have 2 brake sensors for each wheel.

Nov 29, 2021

I started my truck up and the dashboard warned me with service ESC and also Service Power Steering drive with care. Steering wheel was very hard to turn obviously no matter what way. I only got like 14,169 miles on the truck. I left it sitting for about 2 hrs. And it's supposedly back to normal. No lights some how.

Oct 4, 2021

While towing at a GCWR of over 29,000 pounds, my truck displayed the “check trailer wiring“ message on the DIC. I’m glad that my vehicle alerted me to a situation with the trailer wiring, however, when this message is displayed it completely shuts off the brake output to the trailer brakes. It was incredibly nerve-racking and quite dangerous when traveling 70 mph down the freeway and then suddenly hitting traffic and realizing I had zero trailer brakes to assist me in stopping to avoid an accident. Once I was able to return home, I pulled the breakaway pin on the trailer and all brakes worked perfectly fine. I then pulled all the hubs on the trailer axles and found one brake magnet had wore down to the coil. Obviously this is an issue and needs to be replaced, but the fact that my truck cut break output to all the brakes completely is very dangerous and unacceptable. This is a serious safety issue since there is nothing that can be done while on the road to fix this. If I had been traveling in the mountains as I will be next week, this could easily have caused a much more serious situation. This situation has been discussed among other owners of the same vehicle who experienced the same situation. There is a message that comes up on the DIC, but at that point it’s too late since the trailer brakes are already turned off by the vehicle. It seems to me that unless there is a serious short or the truck senses and extremely high amperage overload that it should continue work and send brake power to a trailer even if there is one single component that fails. That is the way that brake controllers have worked since they were invented, and now this new “Integrated Trailer Brake Controller” is much less safe.

Aug 23, 2021 Crash

While driving home in my neighbor I was approaching vehicle ahead of me which was stopped. I applied the break pedal which went loosely all the way to ground and unresponsive. Due to my inability to stop on time I rear ended the vehicle. No warning that there was an issue with my breaks what so ever. The only thing that I did have going on was my trucks front panel (gauges & stereo screen) weren't functioning. I went to turn on my pick up and it behaved as if battery was dead. I let it sit for a few minutes and attempted to start it once again and it started right up. The issue was the stereo screen stayed black and only the fuel gauge and speedometer were functioning. In the end I ended up being at fault in the accident and reported it to my insurance.

May 28, 2021

Driving 50mph and the truck starts bucking, backfiring, and missing. Code appeared on the dash stating service ESC. Lack of Power steering and braking I parked the truck.

May 26, 2021

I was leaving work on May 17th and got in my 2020 Silverado and started the vehicle. Immediately codes were thrown on the dash stating that the power steering was out and that the ESC system needed serviced. The traction control system/ESC light was also illuminated on the dash. I was unable to turn the steering wheel whatsoever. I turned the vehicle off and restarted approximately three times all of which still were displaying the codes listed above. I let the truck sit for approximately 20 minutes and the codes had cleared themselves and the vehicle was functioning as it should. I immediately drove to the dealership and had it serviced. Dealership stated there was a programming issue related to the EBCM, which if I'm not mistaken was a recall already issued for the 2019 models. I have seen many instances online of this same issue occurring and sometimes impacting the ability to brake (if vehicle was in motion at time of onset). My onset occurred at approximately 14,000 miles while in park. Since the servicing (approximately 1 week) issue has not been replicated, but I am not sure if the problem has been fixed or if the computer is just functioning properly and will glitch again at some point in the future.

IN MAY I PURCHASES A 2020 SILVERADO. ON DECEMBER 05TH, 2020. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE HEADING HOME FROM MY SON'S FOOTBALL GAME . THE "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE VEHICLE'S DASHBOARD. BRAKING BECAME SLUGGISH AND STIFF. I INITIAL THOUGHT THE BRAKE FLUID HAD HAD LEAKED OUT. THE VEHICLE MAINTAINED POWER TO ALL OTHER SYSTEMS. ONCE HOME I CHECKED THE ENGINE BAY AND BRAKE CALIBERS AND FOUND THEM TO BE INTACT. AT THIS TIME THE VEHICLE HAS 12,400 MILES. AFTER A INITIAL ASSESSMENT, WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE A "COMPUTER GLITCH" THAT WAS EFFECTING THE TRANSMISSION AND BRAKE SENSORS. THE BRAKE MODULE WAS REPLACED AND TRANSMISSION "SOFTWARE" WAS UPDATED. THIS WAS COMPLETED ON DECEMBER 09TH, 2020. UPON COMPLETION THE TECHS CONDUCTING A "DRIVE TEST", AT WHICH TIME THE WARNING APPEARED AGAIN. MY VEHICLE REMAINS AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, WHILE THEY "TROUBLESHOOT" THE PROBLEM. DUE TO THE VAGUE RESPONSES BEING PROVIDED BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE STAFF AND THE LACK OF AN ESTIMATED TIME LINE FOR THE COMPLETION OF THE REPAIRS. I BELIEVE THERE IS A MUCH LARGER ISSUE THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO REVEAL.

RESTARTED TRUCK, RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION BUT CEL REMAINED. 2ND OCCURRENCE, 9865 MILES - 65MPH ON HIGHWAY GOING AROUND CURVE, TRUCK JUMPED VIOLENTLY CAUSING REAR END TO BREAK FREE SLIGHTLY, THOUGH I KEPT CONTROL. TRANSMISSION NOW SEVERAL GEARS LOWER AND STUCK THERE, TURNING 2400 RPM AT 65MPH. SAME THREE WARNING MESSAGES AND CEL. TRIED MANUAL TRANSMISSION MODE, BUT IT DISPLAYED NO GEAR INDICATION, AND THE +/- BUTTONS DID NOTHING. PULLED OFF HIGHWAY, RESTARTED, ALL MESSAGES WENT AWAY, CEL REMAINED. TRUCK RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. 3RD OCCURRENCE, 9905 MILES (ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER) - I WAS STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT, FIRST IN A STRING OF CARS. LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I STARTED TO ACCELERATE, JUST INTO THE INTERSECTION, TRUCK JUMPED VIOLENTLY, SAME WARNING MESSAGES, STILL HAD THE CEL FROM THE LAST TIME. TRUCK WAS NOW STUCK IN A HIGHER GEAR, COULD BARELY GET THROUGH INTERSECTION. VEHICLE BEHIND ME NARROWLY MISSED REAR-ENDING ME, AND OTHERS WERE BLOWING HORNS AS I LIMPED TO THE FAR SIDE OF INTERSECTION. THIS IS A MASSIVE SAFETY CONCERN. IF ANY OF THE ABOVE SCENARIOS HAD OCCURRED ON SNOWY/ICY ROADS, I COULD HAVE INJURED OR KILLED SOMEONE, INCLUDING MYSELF AND/OR MY [XXX] YEAR-OLD. DEALER REPLACED TCM, BUT IS STILL NOTING "LOSS OF COMMUNICATION" CODES BEING GENERATED. IF THAT'S SO, AND CHEVY HASN'T ISSUED A RECALL - OR EVEN A TSB - THEN THIS POSES A STRONG CASE FOR NEGLIGENCE ON THEIR PART. ARE THEY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET INJURED OR DIE BEFORE ACTING ON THIS? 2020 SILVERADO LT WITH ONLY 4660 MILES WAS PARKED IN A NEIGHBORHOOD DRIVE WAY WHERE OUR 17 YEAR OLD SON HAD SPENT THE NIGHT WITH A FRIEND. HE STARTED THE TRUCK TO LEAVE AND IMMEDIATELY HAD SEVERAL ALARMS; BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE, DRIVE NO FASTER THAN 62 MPH, SERVICE TRAILER BRAKE, SERVICE ESC. HE TRIED TO EASE OUT OF THE DRIVE TO TEST BRAKES, ABOUT 5-10 MPH; HE HAD NO BRAKES, ZERO BRAKES! HE ROLLED TO THE EDGE OF THE DRIVEWAY AND TURNED THE TRUCK OFF. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINS HE STARTED THE TRUCK AGAIN AND THE BRAKES WERE WORKING AND ALARMS WERE CLEARED BUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE, WE FOUND THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON AND GM HAS DONE 2 RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM YET IF YOU AREN'T AWARE OF IT, YOU, YOUR FAMILY OR OTHER INNOCENT DRIVERS COULD BE KILLED BECAUSE GM AND THE NHTSA HAVE NOT MOVED STRONGLY ENOUGH TO WARN OWNERS, THERE SHOULD BE A NATIONWIDE 'DO NOT DRIVE' ALERT ISSUED ON THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE CONTACTED MY ATTORNEY TO SEE HOW TO PROCEED AND OUR SON WILL NOT RISK HIS LIFE IN THIS TRUCK AGAIN. NO BRAKES AND NO EMERGENCY BRAKE!! WOULD GM'S CEO LET THEIR 17 YEAR OLD DRIVE THESE DANGEROUS TRUCKS? THE NHTSA NEEDS TO TAKE IMMEDIATE DIRE ACTION ON THIS, LOOK AT YOUR OWN WEBSITE AT HOW MANY COMPLAINTS THERE ARE ON THIS EXACT PROBLEM! MY ATTORNEY READ YOUR SITE AND HE SAYS YOU ALL CAN'T DENY KNOWING THE PROBLEM EXIST, TAKE ACTION BEFORE DRIVERS DIE. GM AND NHTSA ARE BEING NEGLIGENT ON THIS AND I WILL GLADLY TESTIFY IN ANY CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AND UNFORTUNATELY THERE WILL BE SOME.
