6L80 transmission shift flared when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear and shuddered when driving at 45 - 50 mph and about 1400 rpm’s. The Torque Converter Clutch was spasming out causing the the torque converter to shudder which caused the torque converter to overheat at 250 degrees therefore exploding the torque converter that shot metal inside of the transmission blowing it up.
Bad shuttering, slow acceleration, clunking noise, check engine light flashing all started while driving home. Took it to a transmission shop and they said it was the TC and transmission. I then called the dealership to see if there was a recall, and looked up any recalls. Since I have had fluid flushed and changed, and still have the problems. This has been an on going problem for a couple of years now. It was just out of warranty for dealership to fix. It started while I was on a highway and had very poor acceleration control.
There was a brake system failure and the brakes stopped working while going 50 mph
Without warning (no warning lights or previous mechanical indications) the power steering failed making it extremely difficult to turn the steering wheel. Fortunately this happened while I was parking and not on the highway. The truck had approximately 48,000 miles on it at the time. (8/30/25) Repairs required replacing the rack and pinion steering and a heavily corroded "grounding strap". Repair cost was appx $3500
Summary: While driving, the transmission intermittently fails to shift and the truck has locked up and screeched to a complete halt approximately four times, creating a sudden stop/near rear‑end‑collision risk. Details & timeline: First symptoms were around 55,010 miles. On 10/13/2024 the Chevrolet dealer performed “SERVICE TRANSMISSION GM” (fluid & filter), but the condition continued. In April 2025, a shop documented DTC P0700 & P2727 (pressure‑control solenoid), burnt transmission fluid, and clutch material in the pan, and recommended replacing the transmission, transmission cooler, and cooler lines. Earlier, the transmission control module was reprogrammed, and oil cooler lines were replaced, but the truck still intermittently fails to shift while driving. The check engine light has illuminated during some events. Engine safety concern: During the same period the engine oil was found very low/“no oil on dipstick” with no external leaks; an oil‑consumption test was recommended, raising concern about internal engine damage and possible contamination from the transmission failure. Safety impact: The lock‑up / abrupt stop events occurred while the vehicle was in motion at approximately [~speed and road type, e.g., 35–55 mph on city/secondary roads], forcing hard braking by vehicles behind me. This presents a risk of sudden loss of propulsion and crash. Frequency: About four lock‑up events so far; shifting failures are intermittent and ongoing. Current status: Vehicle at ~73,000 miles. A Chevrolet dealer is being asked to perform a factory diagnosis and to submit a manufacturer goodwill/warranty review.
On August 17,2025 I was driving on the freeway when I heard a loud bang and I thought my tire blew but it also felt like I hit something, however I pulled over and tires were ok. I proceeded to go again and this time if can feel my rear tire lock up and then let go. I pulled into a parking lot and my tires had some strips on them as if they where dragged.
I noticed that the carpet behind the seat was wet and moldy in the truck so I started looking and noticed the rear window was leaking in two areas. This has obviously been going on for a while as it explains why the kids have been complaining about the smell back there. Since Florida is sub-tropical mold and mildew is a problem and a health issue. I investigated and found hundreds of complaints regarding this issue with failed sealant and cracks. I also discovered a service bulletin that describes the issue but GM refuses to fix it since they say it's not a safety or mechanical issue. Well, I happen to disagree with that since the leak causes the window to fog up and an unsafe environment for people to breath in mold spores in a small space. So, my visibility is impaired and I have to suffer with respiratory issues? This seems to be reason enough for them to perform a permanent repair at their expense, not mine and they can take it out of the designers pay, not mine. Can you help with this?
A few month ago this 2020 Silverado check engine came on in the middle of driving. It stopped shifting and almost caused an accident because it wouldn’t stop. I took it to the dealer and they found nothing wrong. Today, it is doing the same thing with faulty shifting, especially during first and second gears and when I initially accelerate. It is jumpy and worried and accident will happen if the car stops shifting like before. The check engine light is on again

I’m reporting a safety concern involving a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine. The vehicle went into limp mode and died on the side of the road. AAA installed a new battery, which temporarily restored operation, though the “Service Charging System” warning remained. I drove it home, let it sit for several days, and then took it to a Chevrolet dealership. Although the warning light had cleared, I brought it in out of caution. The first dealer diagnosed a failed alternator and recommended replacement at a cost of $2,158.75. I was also told the vehicle was not included in any active recalls related to this issue. Believing the price was high and wanting a second opinion, I went to another Chevrolet dealer. They ran the same diagnostic and found no issue with the alternator or generator, charging only a diagnostic fee. They also said if the alternator had needed replacement, the cost would have been around $1,300. I mentioned to both dealers that I had seen similar alternator/charging system failures recalled on other 2020 Silverado models. Online forums and customer complaints suggest that many Silverado 1500 trucks with the 3.0L Duramax are experiencing similar problems, indicating a potentially broader issue. Given the inconsistency in diagnostics, the significant cost discrepancy, and the number of similar consumer reports, I believe this issue may be more widespread than current recalls reflect. Had a check engine code and the dealership diagnosed the problem as being the coolant control valve. However being still under warranty they said that part is no longer covered under powertrain warranty as of Feb 1st. They now want me to pay 4400 for a part that fails often. Is there anything I can do?
I was enjoying my day off with my family while driving torch highway when I try to pick up my speed to merge in, but my truck was not responding, when stepping on gas, I certainly did not saw any of them gears change I had to put to the for our safety and had to call a tow truck.
I began having difficulties with my transmission at around 75,000 miles. The transmission began to stutter and slip. The transmission felt like I was driving on rumble strips. Transmission was replaced after waiting approx. 4 months. The transmission was replaced with a new GM transmission at the dealership.

The engine blew a rod through the engine block and dealership replaced engine June 2023. January 2025 engine abruptly stopped while on the highway at 70 mph and now waiting on diagnostic test from dealership but after reading all the incidents regarding this engine I feel it’s another L87 engine failure from GM
Rear window leaks water into the cab during rain, snow, car wash, etc. GM refuses to abide by comprehensive warranty to fix the issue, and my dealership wants to charge around $1,000 just to apply sealant. Water goes into and behind the rear seat (where my child sits) and goes to unknown area. Water can cause rust, mold, electrical problems, or any other number of issues. I noticed it around November of 2024 but I don’t know how long it has actually been occurring for. When researching this issue, appears to be relatively commonplace for my year and style of vehicle. Even the GM techs at my dealership acknowledged it is a recurring issue that may require MULTIPLE visits before getting a permanent solution (replacing the entire window).
2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 8L90 transmission failure at 40,000 miles and I am now at 90,000 miles with the same issue. I have been working on this truck tirelessly tried to fix the transmission. I’ve had 3 transmission fluid replacements and a full torque converter replacement. General Motors knowingly sold these models to consumers when the transmission was faulty and underperforming. It shudders, shakes, and slips while driving. It’s almost caused me to get into a few accidents. I just want compensation and to be a part of the class action lawsuit they are being filed upon. Dealership attempting to sell a vehicle with an open recall was more than prepared to let me drive and potentially sell a vehicle with a recall open causing the rear tires to randomly lock up. Made problem known to salesman and said they'd take it off the market. Now, they lowered the price by $2600 as it was previously listed at $25,571, now listed at $22,971. Listing still not down.
While driving, the vehicle began experiencing hard shifting. When I attempted to accelerate to pull over, the vehicle failed to respond and instead sounded as though it was in neutral. Additionally, when I tried to bring the vehicle to a stop, it took longer than usual, as if the wheels were locked.
My 2020 Chevy truck falls under the recall out right now. I drive my family around in it and feel a bit unsafe. How long does General motors have a remedy for this recall? And what are the next steps if a remedy isn’t made in the timeframe allowed? I’ve contacted General Motors and cannot get an answer. Thanks
The 10 speed transmission suddenly downshifts when slowing down. It goes from like 8th to like 3rd suddenly and the rpm’s shoot way up. The wheels do not skid on pavement but will be an issue when the roads get slick here in West Virginia. This is a serious safety concern. This has happened many times since I purchased the truck. The dealer in the past has told me the transmission needs flushed. But now I’m seeing that there is a recall for new transmission software. I would like to have this update please before the roads get slick from snow and ice.
The back window is leaking water into the cab. Water enters the cab any time it rains or when washing the truck. This water is creating a damp environment by soaking into the back of the seat, the carpet, and the headliner, creating the potential for black mold. Immediately after purchasing the truck, the dealership had me bring it back in so they could fix it. Ever since the repair from the dealership, the window has continued to leak at the same rate that it did before the fix.
I have already sent in one complaint about my vehicle and a recall came out but my vehicle isn't on the list and I know there is something wrong. My steering wheel will lock while driving my transmission sticks sometimes I can steering because my steering wheel acts as if it does not work. I have had horrible vibration since day one I have to get an alignment 2 to 3 times a year

Our 2020 Chevy 1500 Trail Boss was waiting for an ordered instrument cluster at service department. The surveillance camera, film the vehicle catch on fire after being parked for 2 days. The smoke started from the inside, and the vehicle engulfed in flames until the fire department came. After the fire was extinguished very little was left of the vehicle. Basically a frame and engine was the only thing left. The vehicle had a little over 70k miles.
The rear third brake light spoiler leaks causing damage to my headliner and vehicle. I have researched this and it appears to be a known issue to GM. However, GM is saying that my vehicle is not affected as of yet. I had an estimate completed on the vehicle by a local body shop. They believe the issue involves the spoiler assembly nuts not being properly tightened and sealed by the manufacturer. A repair will cost approximately $593.63.

Water leak above the rear sliding window has soaked into carpet & upper roof inner lining panel.
The DEF system tank and heater tube/wiring assembly need to be replaced due to the wiring melting. There should be larger wires or a fuse to prevent this. The system is tied to the Emission Controls system in the vehicle. When this happened I was warned on my dash display I had only 165 miles remaining at 65mph, and presumably slower thereafter. I live in Alaska, we travel long distances, sometimes in extreme cold temperatures and always far from help; even cell service if away from urban centers. I find it unacceptable my truck can decide to strand myself and/or family (3 children under 5) based on emissions, not run-ability. The temperatures in Alaska have been severely cold a couple weeks ago when this issue came up. The issue is confirmed by the dealership and is a known issue in the diesel community. Apparently it is a known issue for diesels in cold weather. Diesel is common in cold weather so the issue is perplexing at best. The vehicle has never been inspected by any one other than myself, a mechanic and the dealer. There were no warning lamps, only the dash warning the emission system needed service.
Rear window leaking like a small stream in regular rain. It’s going down behind seats and carpeting and headliner staining worse and worse and I am worried about black mold being created. Husband has lung issues and that can be verified by our physician. We have told Jenkins chevy in Venice florida 5/4/22, 3/20/23 and now living in TN spoke to Champion Chevy in Johnson City on 9/29/23 and 1/5/24..it’s getting worse and as we are out of warranty no one wants to help. We never received any bulletins on my chevy site and it’s not anything you would normally notice but now we smell the mildew smell back there because it is getting worse. Please help us before we get ill from this awful leak. This is my first Chevy pick up I have purchased in my lifetime. Possibly the last.. The rear power sliding window in my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT leaks whenever it rains. The leaking water enters the cab and runs down the back interior wall of the crew cab and saturates the insulation material and the carpeting on the floor. The moisture has caused the seat brackets that attach the seat to the truck to rust and it has also caused mold inside the cab. I purchased a DIY mold test kit and it was positive for mold. My kids and I have allergies and this is causing issues with our health and if it continues it could cause serious health problems. This known issue of the leaking rear window is very widely discussed on many different gm truck forums and internet sites yet gm will not take ownership of this obvious problem.
My backup camera is not functional and it stopped working in April a month after I purchased the vehicle before my lease expired in May. I took it into the dealership for a software update and they refused to do anything without charging me a $160 fee.

Started to notice water marks on the driver and passenger side rear window. According to online forms it is a common problem with 2019 and 2020 silverados with a sliding rear window. The dealer claimed it wasn't a safety issue, which I argued it was due to the mold. Chevy knew about the manufacturing problem before they even sold me the vehicle and did nothing to fix it
I am writing this complaint to bring up the melting dashboard on my 2020 Silverado. I took my vehicle to Beaver Chevrolet in Jacksonville ,FL and they identified that there is an issue with my dashboard. However, they refused to fix or replace it. The service manager check his personnel vehicle and confirmed that his is sticky as well. My co-worker who owns a 2020 GMC Sierra also has a sticky dash. This issue is dangerous as my dash is very shiny and reflects everything onto the glass making it very difficult to see.
Already paid for transmission repair and now paying for engine wiring harness. Service update was sent out to dealer in May of 2020 to fix issues before selling vehicle. That was not done.
Rear window seal is leaking causing mold in vehicle.
Electrical acutated tailgate will not come down. The truck came with a soft bed cover that locks. If my child was to hide in the bed somehow it would pose an immediate risk to life and health as the tailgate will not come down and does not have any type of manual override. The interior controls do not work to lower the tailgate, the key fob controls do not work to lower the tailgate.

The tucks are high so a backup camera is now more important than ever. During the day the image very grainy but useful. At night or in a dark garage it completely useless. I took my truck in to be checked and they agreed it was terrible but nothing could be dome until a recall was issued. I've done research and this seems to be a huge problem with the 2020 Silverado. I reached out to Chevy and the lady I chatted with said I should file this here with you. There are multiple chats and message boards about this issue and Chevy lack of being willing to fix it.
At approximately 42k miles my 2020 Silverado started flashing a very frequent “service safety restraint system” warning light and beeping (either constant or every 10-15 minutes). Immediately contacted a Chevrolet dealer to have it corrected. They have assured me that the repair is simple, will cost me $602 to replace a few steering wheel component parts to get the clock spring working correctly. They assured me they knew the issue would be resolved since their tech has “seen this a lot” but it took them all day to diagnose, and said since I was just past my bumper to bumper warranty it was not covered. That I could pay the diagnosis fee and take it home if I wanted. Since when is a faulty safety restraint system “fine” to drive? Of course I immediately authorized the out of pocket repair to be safe, but I am surprised and alarmed that Chevy would allow them to return an unsafe vehicle to a customer and tell them it’s “fine” rather than put them in a loaner vehicle or report the issue, since there are thousands of similar complaints for these Silverado’s. Truck is currently in the shop, on my dime and I am terrified that this will end up costing me more than $602.
Passenger door lock failed. Door will not lock with any door button, key fob, automatic lock function, or when vehicle shifts to drive. Door must be manually locked by pressing lock down and unlocked by pulling door handle risking safety of passenger. Issue has been reproduced, inspected, and confirmed by independent mechanic but no diagnostic has been ran yet. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms present prior to failure.
The Advanced Trailering system will fail to load, preventing the user from entering the correct vehicle being towed and the entire system screen is blank and won't load. This could be a huge safety concern if the driver cannot select the correct vehicle being towed since the Brake Gain is stored in the Advanced Trailering system and then the incorrect amount of braking force will be applied to the vehicle while it is being driven, which could cause insufficient or excessive braking forces applied to the towed vehicle. This could lead to rear end crashes or Jack-Knifed crashes. The problem is random but repeatable quite frequently and has been confirmed by the Dealer (refer to included GM Bulletin PIT5792 Published on 11/5/2020) GM has been aware of this problem for almost 2 years and has not provided a fix for it. I have had this vehicle in the dealer on at least 3 occasions to fix the problem There is no advanced warning, message or other symptom prior to this problem. The problem started within a month of purchasing the vehicle
I have been researching rust on frame components and found there have been service bulletins issued (e.g. PI0564K) for this same issue. However, the latest service bulletin only covers up to model year 2019. Is there anything in progress to extend to model year 2020?
I bought the truck a year ago drove it home it stalled out on me for no reason thank goodness I was in a neighborhood when that happened, fast forward a year of driving it and now my gauges aren’t working it’s throwing all these warning signs and spent a lot of money on this truck and for what for all these problems that it’s having it’s my only vehicle for my kids and me and the wife and now I’m worried it’s going to cause me to get into an accident.
When I drive this car on the free way or on a very windy day, a loud air gap is caused by the front driver and passenger window. It hasn't been inspected by the dealer or anything but I believe there could be something wrong with the quality of glass or the seal that hold the glass. I've also driven with the windows lowered on a windy day and saw the edge of the glass bend. I'm worried it's gonna snap or shatter one day. It's been happening since I bought it but I didn't notice until I drove on the free way.
After putting my vehicle in reverse, my backup camera did not come on and gave a warning that the camera was not working.

IN AN ATTEMPT TO EVALUATE I PULLED THE TRUCK FORWARD AND THE AVAILABLE STEERING REFLECTED AN INOPERABLE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. I BACKED INTO THE SPOT AGAIN AND SHUT THE TRUCK DOWN. I STARTED THE TRUCK AND SHUT IT DOWN FOUR OR FIVE MORE TIMES WITH THE SAME MESSAGES PRESENTED (ALTHOUGH PARK ASSIST STOPPED APPEARING) AND ONLY ON THE LAST TIME DID THE MESSAGES GO AWAY AND POWER STEERING RETURNED.

ALL DASH PANEL AND LIGHT INDICATOR WARNINGS CAME ON INCLUDING 4 WHEEL DRIVE ASSIST FAILURE, BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE, TPS FAILURE, CHECK ENGINE, BATTERY ERROR, ETC. AFTER JUMP STARTING THE BATTERY, THE TRUCK TURNED ON BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON ALL DAY. ON MONDAY 12/28, THE TRUCK DID NOT START AGAIN HOWEVER, THIS TIME, NO INDICATOR LIGHTS, DASH PANEL OR ANYTHING CAME ON AND I WAS ALSO UNABLE TO EVEN LOCK THE TRUCK. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER 2 DAYS THEY STILL HAVE NOT FOUND THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRUCK ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE INDICATED THERE IS A CLEAR PROBLEM. THE 2019-2021 SILVERADO'S HAVE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH THEIR REARVIEW CAMERAS AT NIGHT TIME. THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN ON THESE VEHICLES DIMS APPROPRIATELY AT NIGHTTIME TO ENSURE SAFE VIEWING OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER AT NIGHTTIME WITH THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN DIMMED, WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE THE SCREEN GOES TO FULL BRIGHTNESS AND MAKES VISIBILITY OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE ON PARTIALLY LIT AREAS. THIS CAUSES SAFETY ISSUES AS YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO MAKE USE OF YOUR MIRRORS TO SEE OBSTRUCTIONS OR OBSTACLES. THIS IS FURTHER MAGNIFIED AS THE QUALITY OF THE REAR VIEW CAMERA AT NIGHT IS VERY POOR, SO THE POOR CAMERA QUALITY COUPLED WITH THE INABILITY TO EVEN USE THE VEHICLES MIRRORS TO SEE OUTSIDE CAUSES SAFETY ISSUES. MANY OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED AND DOCUMENTED THIS SAME ISSUE AND HAVE RAISED CONCERNS WITH GM AND DEALERSHIPS TO NO AVAIL. THIS SHOULD BE AS SIMPLE AS A SOFTWARE UPDATE TO MAINTAIN SCREEN BRIGHTNESS WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE DURING NIGHTTIME OR DARK CONDITIONS.
CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 - HAS A FEEL LIKE RUNNING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS AND GOES AWAY. OCCURS AT OR BETWEEN 60 AND 65 MPH. IT ISN'T CONTINUOUS AT ALL. DOESN'T DO IT AT LOWER SPEEDS OR HIGHER SPEEDS THAT I CAN FEEL. TRUCK WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN 2020
THE REAR WINDOW SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED L. NOTHING HIT THE THE WINDOW AND THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE THAT AN OBJECT HIT THE WINDOW. THE BOTTOM CORNERS BROKE FIRST. THE TRUCK WAS PARKED AND OFF IN A PARKING LOT. THERE IS SEALANT ON ONE END OF THE WINDOW THAT APPEARS TO HAVE COME OUT.

THIS VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED TO ME IN LATE MARCH 2020. NEW SMYRNA BEACH CHEVROLET SOLD ME TWO FAULTY VEHICLES. THE FIRST THEY TOOK BACK AND NOW THIS SECOND VEHICLES BACK UP CAMERA WORKS INTERMITTENTLY FROM DAY ONE. GM NOR THE DEALER SHIP CAN LOCATE THE REPLACEMENT PART AND THIS HAS BEEN ON-GOING FOR 3 MONTHS NOW. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT HAS A FAULTY CAMERA. I FEAR THAT AS A RESULT, BODILY INJURY COULD RESULT TO SOMEONE ELSE. GM HAS FAILED TO GIVE ME AN ETA ON THE PART, FAILED TO PUT ME IN A LOANER VEHICLE, AND FAILED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM BY OFFERING ADEQUATE TRADE ASSISTANCE TO GET ME INTO A WORKING VEHICLE.

WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE (OURS DOES NOT HAVE THE STOP START TECHNOLOGY); HOWEVER WHEN IDLING LOW OR COMING TO A STOP THE VEHICLE WILL JERK THEN DIE. THE MOTOR WILL COMPLETELY SHUT OFF; STALLING, THE ONLY WAY TO RESTART IS TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL OR PARK AND TURN IGNITION AGAIN. THE MOTOR SHUTS OFF ENTIRELY USER IS UNABLE TO DRIVE; PRESENTS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. PUSHING GAS PETAL DOES NOT WORK EVEN IF IT DID HAVE THE STOP START TECHNOLOGY.

AND TAKING OFF IN HESITATION AND SOME TIMES MOVEMENT IN THE REAR AND UNDER THE TRUCK. BOTH STATIONARY AND IN MOTION.
