On December 12th, while on interstate 10, my engine started making clanking noise, it started to stall and jerk. I had try to get over to the shoulder of the interstate. I had to restart the truck to try and get off the interstate. It died out. I tried to restart and it did, just enough for me to get it off the interstate. It was finally towed to the dealership. The mechanic said it wasn’t under warranty. They say the rocker atms are bent and 2 pistons were damaged the charge The mechanic also said that my engine in my truck was too small for my truck. He doesn’t know why they use it …. They want $8700 to make the repairs, GM will not assist in cost off to r repair. I’ve come to find out this is a common problem in this model of my truck.
The vehicle intermittently enters a reduced power/limp mode resulting in a sudden loss of acceleration while driving. This has occurred multiple times, including while towing, when the vehicle was unable to safely maintain or reach highway speeds. The loss of power creates a dangerous condition when merging or driving in traffic. Warning messages indicating reduced engine power have appeared, and diagnostic trouble codes have cleared without repair. Despite this, the problem continues to reoccur. The condition is intermittent and not consistently reproducible during dealer diagnostics. The vehicle is currently available for inspection.
Engine seized up at 70 mph on highway. Loss of all power and was lucky to coast off road in heavy traffic. Vehicle had just passed safety recall inspection two weeks earlier. Replacement engine installed at dealership, but it failed and second replacement engine currently being installed.
My Chevy Silverado was repaired by 3 different certified Chevy dealers about 10 times for a variety of issues. The last time I brought my truck to Bridgewater Chevy I was told I need an engine replacement. The certified dealers failed to identify the root cause to all the issues. All the symptoms point to engine fail eventually occurring
I've owned the 2022 Silverado High Country with 6.2L engine. Over the past 3.5 years, the engine has had oil consumption issues where I was required to take the vehicle to Chevrolet dealership every 500 miles in Hampton, VA to have the oil level checked. I kept getting the message "low Oil Level" on the information center. I also kept hearing loud ticking noise coming from the engine. Chevy service would top off the oil level (sometimes 1/2 or 1+ quart low), and send me on my way. After oil consumption and ticking noise continued, I was notified by Dealer that a Safety Recall April 2025 was issued by GM. I met with GM Representative and Chevy Service Manager April 2025, and based on my truck history with oil consumption and lifter noise, decision was made to replace engine. New Engine was installed May 2025 and all appeared to be good to go. However, in November 2025 I heard the loud clicking noise in the new engine. Hampton, VA Chevy service conducted an inspection and found a bent push rod in new engine. Service replaced the push rod and all lifters based on history of lifter issues.
The engine started knocking and squeaking. Mileage is 42,142
Since brand new engine has had oil consumption issues. Countless times I have been told it is ok and there is no problems with it. I took it to a different dealer and I am now being told I need to replace pistons and rings.
BACK ROAD - 25-30 MPH, TRUCK "SLOWED" WENT TO ACCELERATE WITH NO RESPONSE, TRUCK WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND "PRESS START". SLOWED AND STOPPED NEAR SIDE OF ROAD. WOULD NOT RESTART. ENGINE SEIZED. TWO HOURS PLUS LATER, ABLE TO GET TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL TO TOW TO STEPSONS HOME. SERVICE CONTACTED AND TOW TRUCK DRIVER (ALSO UNKNOWN TO HOW TO GET TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL TO GET ONTO FLATBED) TOWED THE TRUCK TO DEALERSHIP TO AWAIT INSPECTION AND REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF ENGINE. BATTERY DISCONNECTED CURRENTLY. HOWEVER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED AFTER EPISODE.
At 62,000 miles this engine blew up after regular maintenance.
Megafuse on starter solenoid terminal of the buss bar has blown twice in a month, leaving a serious burn mark on buss bar where contact is made with fuse. Possible fire hazard inside engine bay on top of battery. This also keeps the vehicle from starting. 1 click, no start. Battery has full charge, jumping has no effect. Possible cause is ground wire short/fault between negative terminal and vehicle frame/body. No check engine light, no battery light, or any other indication of issue with starter or battery.
Vehicle has used an abnormal amount of oil since new Now uses 1 quart of oil every 500 miles Have been trying to get recall inspection done for three weeks with no response from dealer or manufacturer
I am writing to formally report a serious issue with my 2022 Chevy Silverado which I purchased brand new. Within just a few months of ownership, during a routine oil change, I was informed by the service technician that there was an oil leak. I took the truck to the dealership, and they claimed the issue was resolved by replacing the oil pan. However, the oil consumption continued, without knowing and still, no warning lights ever appeared. As the engine is the heart of any vehicle, this ongoing issue posed a serious safety risk, especially while driving on the highway. Eventually, after the warranty expired, the engine issue worsened. I contacted GM and the dealership again, but I was told that GM could only offer minimal assistance toward a new engine — despite the fact that this engine exhibits the same oil consumption problems reported in other V8 engines currently involved in lawsuits and recalls. I believe this is a manufacturer defect that should have been properly addressed under warranty. The failure of the engine so early in the vehicle’s life, with a known issue that matches recalled engines, is unacceptable. I am seeking a fair resolution, including full coverage of the engine replacement.
GM is recalling the Fuel Injector Flow Rate system but is unwilling to fix damaged parts from the Flow rate being off. My Engine has Misfiring, pitted Cam, camshaft lobe wear, valves and needs a new head stemming from the Fuel Injector Flow Rate being off. GM is refusing to support their product. This is a known issue GM is having with these engines.
General Motors has identified a problem and will not fix or replace the car or engine. I have asked multiple times and there is no answer as to when this recall will be fixed. This is unsatisfactory, it explains that this can cause engine failure and still no answers from GM about this. They owe every single vehicle a replacement motor before someone gets hurt.
Dealer (Bob Howard in Edmond Oklahoma) has failed to address Recall N252494000 for over 90+ days now after several inquiries from owner.
2.7l turbo l3b Chevy Silverado started skipping and throwing codes. First the coil packs and plugs were changed. Then crankshaft and camshaft sensors replaced. Then the fuel rail and direct injectors replaced along with harness . Still skipping and making loud noise on startup. Reduced power, etc. mechanic finally got the camshaft carrier off and the very back two exhaust rocker arms were in the carrier. One had lost all needle bearings and one seized up along with both valve lash adjusters broken in half along with one bent valve. As of today, 30 July 2025, I went to buy rocker arms, part # 12701225, and the dealership wouldn’t let me buy them because it’s supposedly getting discontinued so now I have a fairly new truck with no parts to complete repairs.
I have a 2022 Chevrolet 1500 Trail Boss with the 6.2. Intermittingly when starting off at a red light or from a stopped position, when you press the gas pedal to go the engine will stall and then will suddenly pick back up after a second or two. This intermittingly issue makes it very dangerous when turning in front of oncoming traffic, or in a situation when sudden acceleration is needed. The motor ticks even at idle when running. Also, when you come to a stop at a redlight, the engine shuts off, when you release the brake to go, the auto start restarts the engine. On my truck, when the starter restarts the engine, the starter will not disengage. You have to put the truck in park, turn the switch off and manually restart the engine to make the starter quit spinning over. This problem is also intermitting. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it dont. I took my truck to Mike Bell Chevrolet twice in Carrollton Georgia, where I bought it. The first time I took it to them was 2-10-25, it was for the starter hanging up in auto-start, they charged me $199.00 to do a diagnostic, told me they could not replicate the issue. Then I took it back to Mike Bell Chevrolet on 7-2-2025 after my wife had called the service department and told them that the engine stalls sometimes when starting off, the woman at Mike Bell said that this is one of the symptoms of the recall on my truck. She said we need to bring it in. They called me back and said they could not get it to replicate the issue and wanted to charge me another $399.00 for checking it. We refused to pay this because it is an active recall and we were advised to bring it in. If this engine stalls in traffic, I want it documented that the engine intermittingly stalls when starting off sometimes in case there is an accident.
I am submitting a formal complaint regarding the failure of the 6.2L V8 engine in my 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (VIN: [XXX] ), which is currently under recall (NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V444000). On Thursday, [XXX], while traveling for work approximately 30 minutes from my home, the engine suddenly failed without warning—just two days after I received the recall notice from GM, which acknowledged the defect but stated there was no current fix available. Fortunately, I was able to safely pull over and was within sight of Hometown Motors (Chevrolet dealership in Fruitland, ID), but still had to pay $100 out-of-pocket to have the truck towed less than 1/4 mile. The dealership later confirmed the engine had failed and ordered a replacement, with an estimated repair time of three weeks. I use this truck daily for my small business, where I co-own and operate a window covering company. The truck is a critical part of my business, used to transport tools, ladders, and product samples. GM and the dealership delayed the rental approval process by two full days, and once finally approved, I was informed by Enterprise that it would be another three days before a vehicle would be available—and it would not be comparable to the Silverado I purchased for over $50,000. As of today, I still do not have a comparable rental vehicle, and I’ve been given multiple excuses as to why one can’t be provided. I cannot operate my business using a small sedan. This engine failure has caused direct financial loss, business disruption, and a complete loss of reliable transportation for work. GM’s failure to provide a timely solution to a known defect is unacceptable, and I urge the NHTSA to investigate the handling of this recall and the lack of appropriate remedies for owners affected—especially those like myself who rely on these vehicles for commercial use. At 53,000 miles the Coolant Control Valve has failed 2 times. A very common problem many owners have had. 1st CCV replaced at 45,000, second lasted less than 10,000 miles. Truck is forced into “reduced acceleration”. Part is on back order with no estimated ship date. Some owners are reporting wait times of 3 months or more. No loaner provided, was told truck is “safe to drive”. With reduced acceleration the truck struggles to get up to speed and has hard time maintaining even 65mph. It’s compounded when towing, making it near impossible to maintain pace with highway traffic. My vehicle is basically rendered useless as I use it regularly for highway commute and also towing. The vehicle may be “safe” in that it won’t blow up, but it’s certainly not safe to drive when it can’t maintain even the speed limit. If a quick acceleration is needed to avoid something it’s not capable of doing that.
I was driving my truck with my two young children in the back seat. I was accelerating to merge onto the interstate, and at 8th gear (around 74 MPH) I felt and heard a BANG and lost all propulsion, as if the transmission went into neutral. I revved several times and had no power to the wheels. I had to quickly check traffic behind me and find a place to stop on the side of a busy interstate, with two young children in the truck. While decelerating, I had no engine power and the transmission shifted from D to N to P while I was still moving - although it felt like it was still in N. As the truck decelerated, the engine shut off while in motion (around 30-40mph) and I came to a stop. As I was coming to a stop, I noticed I had a solid CEL/MIL along with several other warnings. I was unable to crank the truck - crank but no start - and unable to shift from P. Had I not been able to find a safe place to stop (e.g., in heavy traffic on the interstate or in city traffic) I surely would have been involved in an accident. When trying to tow the truck to the dealer, I had no way to get the truck out of P to load onto the tow truck flat bed. Subsequent attempts (at the Chevy dealer) to remove the truck from the tow truck flat bed were unsuccessful, as the truck would not shift from P nor crank. This was a severe safety issue which I am not sure is powertrain, electrical, or emission related but it could have ended in a severe crash on the interstate with my children. There were no indications of any sort of malfunction or issue except for when I immediately heard and felt the bang and lost propulsion on the interstate. I drove the truck earlier in the week without issue and there were no MIL's immediately prior to the incident. The truck is at Jimmy Gray Chevrolet, Southaven, MS awaiting evaluation and diagnosis.
I have a 22022 Refresh Silverado 1500 High Country with 12,500 miles that gets a "Service Transmission" warning and kills the engine leaving it in the traffic. When trying to restart the truck it just keeps flashing errors and can't be restarted for about half hour. This has happened twice to me so far. The codes recorded are in the attached file.
The engine has been rough idling after being put in a GM certified repair shop multiple times within the last year. Also the oil pan has a constant issue with leakage even after doing 3000 dollars worth of work, including the oil pan being replaced. There was a safety recall put out for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 for this very problem that my vehicle is having ( engine loss of propulsion) recall # N252494002 L87. This is affecting our livelihoods.
I was driving after 2 weeks of purchasing the truck the engine light came on and a message on the dash board that read loose of engine propulsion the truck was having a very hard time accelerating and it was jerking and it would not go into reverse at all this happened on May 30th 2025
The engine started to shake violently while traveling down the interstate, my speeds reduced against my will. My safety and the safety of others was jeopardized while I'm traveling down an interstate with a minimum speed of 70 mph and my truck speed reduced to 35 mph or less. After an inspection from the dealership, I assumed the responsibility of having the engine rebuilt that cost me thousands of dollars. As the vehicle started to reduce speed is when the onstar alert went off. After having my vehicle for 10 ten days I receive it in worst condition that I gave it to them. Approximately 2 weeks later, the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership which they diagnosed it as needing the throttle body replaced. I allowed the dealership to fix that issue. Upon them returning the vehicle to me, I now have an electrical issue. The dealership stated that they may have crossed wires. The windows would roll down once I locked the vehicle, the door would constantly unlocked while I'm driving and the radio would shut down and restart while driving. The dealership was unable to find the problem so they decided to turn off everything so these I would not have these issues. Now I can smell something burning from time to time while I'm driving.
Coolant control valve malfunction on my truck with 43300 miles that causes my truck to go into limp mode. Took to dealership and was told I had to pay for an update to the ECM computer that is tied to the warning light. I was told that there are lots of recalls for this part but that I have to pay for a software update as a first line step to see if this will fix the issue. This is a known part failure that needs to be recalled and resolved and owners shouldn’t have to pay for software updates to fix there faulty parts.
I live in Eagar Arizona, we are currently under evacuation orders due to the Greer fire. My 2022 Chevrolet Silverado is not usable to leave the area. Because of the well known and seemingly unaddressed issue of a "coolant control valve" my truck has less than 29000 miles and is, in my opinion unsafe to use to escape a forest fire. I am sure there are other safety concerns applicable to the KNOWN design flaw. More importantly Chevrolet seems disinterested in resolving this nationwide problem with any type of expediency.
I was coming out of my workplace, made a right turn on to a Main Street, the lights were red so I was waiting to proceed and my truck engine just shut off. As the light turned green, I attempted to start the truck by turning the key off to restart the truck again, I tried twice to restart the truck, but it wouldn’t turn over, I couldn’t put my hazard lamps on because I lost all power. I was afraid because two 18 wheeler trucks were coming behind me . This area is heavily used by the trucking industry delivering goods to companies in the area. I was terrified that I was going to be hit from behind, I gave the ignition another try and the truck started, but it was sluggish in pulling off. I called the dealership that day and my new truck was at the dealership for almost a week. The following day of my drop off, the dealership said they recieved a recall on my truck. I have the repair ticket from the dealership. I no longer have faith in the truck that I paid so much money for, not the company that built it.
The blind spot notification light on driver door mirror stays on while driving.. the engine sputters and makes noise while driving over 45 mph
2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is unable recognize that it has been placed in park consistently, essentially trapping us in the vehicle until the "Shift to Park" error gets corrected. After shifting the vehicle into park and pressing the button to turn off the vehicle, an error comes up on the dash saying "Shift to Park". In order to clear this error and have the vehicle recognize that it is safely parked, we must turn the vehicle back on, put the vehicle in reverse or drive, and depress the gas pedal to move the vehicle slightly, shift the vehicle to park again, wait at least 30 seconds to a minute, and then finally press the button to turn off the vehicle. And we must repeat this anywhere from 3 to 15 times until the brakes safely engage to park the vehicle. I worry that the vehicle wont safely go into park and will roll away on its own. This is the same error that was reported for other GM models recently and is affecting the safety, reliability, usability, and longevity of this vehicle.

April 2023 experienced loss of power and eventually would not start at all. (8k miles) Was at the dealer for just over 3 months and had motor replaced. April 2025 valve body on the transmission went out and was at the dealer a week and a half. (15K miles) Currently experiencing loss of tailgate function and an error message on the screen saying "caution reduced speed". (17,400 miles)
Engine seized at 89,872 miles. Spun rod bearings, Spent a Month and a half waiting for a new motor. Motor was replaced and engine seized again at 10,000 miles. I had extended warranty that at first denied the claim but wound up paying. When the Motor seized a second time I traded the vehicle in. But at a significant cost to me as I would have kept that vehicle if it hadn't of had the Motor issues.

On March 29, 2025, I was driving my 2022 ZR2 approximately 55mph around a winding road when the vehicle suddenly shut down. No warning lights or other indicators alerted me to impending failure. My 81-year-old mother was in the truck with me at the time. By the grace of God I was able to get the truck pulled over. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where it was diagnosed with engine seized. I have a wife and almost 4 year old daughter. Now that I know about this issue and am reading all of the reports, I no longer trust this truck with my family's lives. We are single income and this has hit us financially.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, REDUCED ENGINE POWER, COOLING FANS ON HIGH SPEED DEALER ADVISED NEEDS A COOLANT FLOW CONTROL VALVE REPAIR PARTS NOT AVAILABLE, SEVERAL VEHICLES WAITING ON SAME PART
Engine stalled out at 60mph Had put vehicle in Neutral and pull off the road In process no notification of an issue at all
Vehicle: 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Trail Boss, 6.2L V8 L87 engine Date of Incident: Friday, April 19, 2025 Mileage at Time of Failure: ~30,000 miles Location: Route 1 (high-traffic highway) While driving at highway speed, the vehicle suddenly shut down without warning. The RPMs dropped to zero, and I had to quickly merge across lanes with no engine power, creating a serious safety risk to myself and other drivers. There were no warning lights, sounds, or prior symptoms before the failure. I had the truck towed at my own expense to a trusted mechanic, who confirmed that the engine had seized. It has since been transferred to a certified GM dealership for teardown and repair. This failure appears consistent with ongoing reports and an active NHTSA investigation into the 6.2L V8 L87 engine, specifically related to oil pump failure and oversized lifter bores, which can cause catastrophic engine failure without warning. I am concerned about the future reliability of this vehicle, especially since powertrain warranty coverage is limited. Had I known about these known engine issues, I would not have purchased this vehicle. I will be notifying my bank, which holds the lien, as this situation also impacts the value and security of their asset. I intend to request part numbers and full documentation from the dealership to ensure the engine is not replaced with the same potentially defective components.
Transmission or motor exploited
Lots of noise from engine. Truck shutdown while on highway going at high speed. It got towed to dealer for engine replacement.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the fuse block C1 wire had melted and damaged the battery. The dealer replaced the fuse block, C1 wire, and battery; however, the contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the engine made an abnormal sound. The dealer was made aware of the failure, but the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE25001 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 16,300.
Mileage: 16,300
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the engine seized. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had seized and was not able to crank or turn over. The vehicle was at the dealer awaiting the repair. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000.
Mileage: 147,000
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 50-55 MPH, the vehicle shut off. The driver was able to coast over to the side of the road. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the parts were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000.

At ~51,000 miles, my 2022 Silverado Trail Boss 6.2L L87 experienced a sudden engine failure while on / exiting the highway. The engine began shaking violently, the check engine light flashed, and it lost all power without warning. It was towed and remained out of service for 28 days. The dealer diagnosed lifter delamination, a scored camshaft, and scored cam, main, and rod bearings. Metal shavings were found in the engine, indicating internal contamination. Despite the severity, the manufacturer approved only an engine overhaul, not a full replacement. The service manager stated, “it’s nearly impossible to get these motors,” pointing to a national shortage due to widespread failures of the 6.2L engine platform. After picking up the vehicle, I immediately noticed a rattling noise from underneath. I returned to the dealer (who also failed to recharge the AC system). They traced the noise to the catalytic converter and muffler and quoted $2,709.24 to replace the full exhaust system. The manufacturer refused to cover the repair, even though the issue appeared immediately after the engine failure. The dealer did not confirm the exact cause, but possible contributing factors include combustion instability, engine misfires, unburned fuel, and extreme vibration during the failure. These conditions can severely impact the exhaust system and emissions components. I was quoted nearly $4,000 for an extended warranty, which I now feel pressured to buy due to loss of confidence in the engine. Metal debris may have affected the oiling system, injectors, or other critical parts. This raises serious safety concerns: sudden power loss at highway speed, compromised emissions components, and the risk of future failures. With the 6.2L under NHTSA investigation, I believe this incident supports further review or recall.
The first incident the truck had 11,000 miles on it. Engine had to be replaced and took almost 3 months. The truck completely cut off driving down the interstate. It just happened again truck has 86,000 miles on it and it happened again. Truck lost all power and completely shut off going down the road at night, on the side of a high rise bridge. Now they have no idea when it can be replaced because it’s a nationwide problem with the 6.2 liter engine. Both times my family has been in this truck and it completely loses power. GM needs to be held responsible and fix this issue. I’m on motor number 2 truck has 80,000 miles on it. Truck was repaired the first time at Walt Massey GMC Chevrolet in Lucedale, MS. The truck is sitting at the same dealership right now
Engine seized up while traveling on interstate at about 75 mph. No warnings. No lights. Just no power and a message on the dash instructing me to restart the engine. This was at the tail end of a 6.5 hour road trip. I was able to put it in neutral and coast to safety. Luckily it was not in a high traffic area.
Engine seized up while traveling on the interstate at about 80 mph in traffic and rainy weather. Vehicle was able to coast to the side of the roadway. No warnings or lights. Gauges were normal. It just shut off out of nowhere. Vehicle never got past 20% warning for oil changes and proper oil was always used.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 15 MPH and turning into a corner, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The engine was replaced and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,400.
Mileage: 65,400
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to decelerate, the vehicle briefly surged forward. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 90,000.
Mileage: 90,000
Truck with 32,496 miles began to shift in a strange manner, the engine then shutoff with no warning while traveling at highway speeds. The truck shifted into neutral and I was able to coast to the side of the road. I had the truck towed to the dealer and they found that the oil pump had failed and that it spun the 6 and 7 rod end bearings and the number 4 main bearing. The truck has the L87 6.2 liter V8. The engine stopped on 12/29/2024 and the truck was towed to the dealer. The truck was at the dealer until 3/28/2025. The truck was at the dealer for this amount of time due the GM having a national back-order on the engine.
Engine bearing failure
2022 Chevy 50k miles engine failed march 2025 Towed to dealership awaiting engine inspection and confirm replacement t or repairs.
I was driving my vehicle at highway speed and the engine stalled. No warning or indicator lights. It just stopped on the interstate. Made it to the shoulder and tried to restart. Had to get it towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with crankshaft bearing failure. I need a new engine.
The entire engine locked up driving down the highway. This is the gm 6.2 engine. Currently new engine being installed but problem is still there
Three year old vehicle with regular dealership maintenance. Spring broke, dealership stated that this is very common in the 6.2 L engine. Caused the Lifters to fail and scarring to happen on the camshafts. It was less expensive to replace the engine. This vehicle was of course out of warranty. Happened suddenly almost caused an accident as I was driving down the road and lost the ability to drive.
Truck started making noise from under the hood and lost power at the stop sign near our house. I was able to get it restarted and drive it 50 yards to my driveway. I had it towed to Galles Chevrolet the next day. I have waited 3 weeks now to get word from the dealer. I was able to finally speak with a service advisor this morning who told me that they suspect the engine has failed. They have yet to tear it down and cannot recommend me for a rental till they order the parts. They assured that they would get to it by 4/8/25 at the latest.
Main bearing failure, same problems as reported by other 6.2 Liter GM vehicles. I had regular oil changes and was still 2000 miles from my next oil change and the engine failed with no warning on a road trip. Waiting on GM to send a new engine block under warranty. My engine was also 2 quarts of oil low.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH, the message "Shift to Neutral and Restart Engine" was displayed, and the vehicle started to lose automotive power and stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who diagnosed that the engine rod bearings had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000.
Mileage: 98,000
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that after coming to a stop, the check engine warning light illuminated while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact continued to depress the accelerator pedal and the vehicle shuddered with the "Reduced Acceleration Drive with Care" message displayed on the instrument panel. The failure persisted, and the contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The mechanic used a code reader, which showed that a bolt on the timing belt gear had scraped the engine block which caused metal shavings to enter the engine. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, and the contact was provided with an estimate for a new engine. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.
Mileage: 123,000

The vehicle shut down while driving and would not restart. While driving it I got an odd error message then it went into neutral on it's own then as soon as I stopped to park it shifted itself to park and would not move. Thankfully I was in a parking lot and safe, otherwise it could have been catastrophic on a highway. AAA came and replaced the battery, which did not help. They tried to shift it into neutral so that it could be put on the flatbed but it would not shift. They finally were able to tow it on a dolly using a regular tow truck. Dealership inspected it and found metal in the oil indicating the need for a new motor. It is under warranty but it's going on 2 weeks and we still don't have an ETA on an engine. It's a 2022 Chevy Silverado, 6.2L with 36,000 miles. I cannot get a return call from the dealership GM.
Loss of motor power due to engine loss. Electronics not functioning properly. Was in danger on an interstate when motor failed to work. I had no warning lights that anything was wrong with the vehicle. Engine failure was not detected until vehicle was towed to the dealership.
Driving at 50 coasting down a hill the engine seized. No warning lights no noises. It was towed to a dealership and I have been waiting 1month for engine replacement
While returning home from my son's graduation. I came to a stop at a stoplight. Before I could come to a complete stop my check engine lights came on and beeped indicating I had low oil pressure. I looked at my guage and it was sitting at 0 psi. I gave the truck some gas to try to bring the oil pressure up and it seemed to work. But the damage was already done. It had a steady knock. I pulled over to check my oil level. It was full. I was able to make it home and to the dealership. I told them what had happened and they replaced the engine. This was at around 20,000 miles. 1 year later, 8,000 miles later. Driving home from work I noticed a tick sitting at a stop light. Drove it home and parked it, knowing my past expirience I didn't want to risk being stalled on a busy highway. Dealership just told me I need another engine. First 10,000 miles, my transmission went bad. 20,000 the motor went bad. 28,000 another motor. Instead of fixing the problem they just replace parts.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, the seat belt fasteners retracted; however, after adjusting the seat belt the seat belt failed to retract properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair, but the failure persisted. On a separate occasion, the rearview camera displayed a half-moon shape and blocked the visibility of the driver. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer informed the contact that the issue was normal, and the vehicle was not repaired. On another occasion, the contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the vehicle. While the contact was driving 75 MPH, the vehicle started to lose motive power. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and the engine seized. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was diagnosed with engine and lifter failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,537.

We have had several issues with our vehicle from early ownership, such as, (1) signal light goes from very fast blinking to working. We have taken it to the dealership and are told they cannot duplicate the issue. It seems to correct itself when you turn off the truck and turn it back on. (2) the digital screen about the steering wheel where all all your gauges are have gone completely black. I took it to the dealership and was told that they had to keep the truck until they could duplicate the issue, but again, turning off and then turning it back on seemed to help. Sometimes it works on the first restart, and others it takes a few times and longer times between restarts. (3) OnStar has stopped communicating with my vehicle about a year, year and half in. (4) Google maps has never worked. (5) Remote starts works sometimes. (6) Auto-shut off works sometimes. (7) Air Conditioner started having issues last summer. We have to turn off and on the vehicle or rev up the engine so that it will kick in. This works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. (7) ESC and traction control lights came on, the truck starts shaking, and brakes locked. Truck had to be towed to nearest dealership. The truck only had 12K miles when this happened. (8) Around the same mileage, an injector had to be replaced. (9) Now at 52K miles, we have the ESC, traction control, and check engine light again. Truck is shaking, feels like the gears are slipping when you press on gas, and has white smoke coming from the mufflers. These issues have been report to both local dealership and GM corporate office. these issues have left us stranded 300 miles from home and has left us without air conditioner in 3-digit weather when we had our grandbaby with us.
Driving down the highway and Vehicle just shut off. Dealer says needs a new engine due to camshaft and lifters. Only 80,000 miles but out of warranty.
Was on a trip 6hrs from home when the truck began to have a pecking noise. The truck suddenly lost power. There wasn’t a shoulder to pull onto so there I sat in the middle of the road waiting on a toll truck. Had the vehicle towed to a dealership where they informed me the engine was locked up. Had to get a rental to get home.
When driving this vehicle on 1/9/25, I was on my way home with my wife from hospital. She was post c section and in very fragile state. The truck was in turning lane when it started making a strange noise and immediately shut off out of no where. There were no lights or warnings on dash. It was extremely cold and we had no heat. We called several tow truck companies to see who could immediately tow our truck to dealer as we were in a very bad location, freezing cold and almost were rear ended several times due to being in this turning lane. Tow truck arrived, had to completely stop traffic for us to enter into another vehicle to make it home. Mind you my wife could barely walk due to her operation. This was a very horrible experience. We bought this specific truck as a family vehicle because we thought it was reliable and safe. The truck was towed to dealer where it had been serviced since purchased and was confirmed that the engine would need to be replaced. We looked online and seen that many people had same issue but no official recall has been put out. We called the GMC recall center and they have been attempting to get us a replacement vehicle as we have a newborn and other children and now have no family vehicle to drive. The recall center has told us there has been an engine ordered but they do not have a date when it will arrive. We are almost two months into this situation with no answers or resolutions still having to make a payment on a vehicle we cannot even drive, nor are we able to purchase a new one because of this.
The contact's brother owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while following his brother who was driving approximately 45 MPH, the contact became aware that his brother’s vehicle was losing motive power. The contact stated that his brother’s vehicle stalled and had lost power steering assist functionality. The vehicle was stopped and shift into park(P). The contact stated that his brother was not aware of any warning lights being illuminated during the failure. The contact and his brother attempted to restart the vehicle several times however, the vehicle failed to restart. A tow truck company was called, and the vehicle was towed to a local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the cause of the engine failure was not provided. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000.

I received an email from OnStar Notifications on February 22, 2025 at 3:54 am stating my truck had 5% oil life remaining. I have had my oil changed at every required time with the required type of engine oil. I had my oil changed on February 22, 2025 at 3:33 pm. The oil change technician stated that no oil showed on the dip stick. Anytime I have my oil changed, I always check the dipstick to make sure the oil is registering where it should be on the dipstick. It has always been correct. No low oil light warning has ever came on. I looked up to see if these engines were having any issues and found that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has an open investigation on their website posted on January 17, 2025 regarding the 2019 – 2024 model years GM 6.2L V8 engine failures based on complaints of bearing failure – resulting in either engine seizure or breaching of the engine block by the connecting rod. The complaints also stated that there is no detectability prior to the failure. I purchased this vehicle brand new in 2022. I am very frustrated because now I have to worry about my vehicle seizing up while driving and possibly causing an accident and even worse someone getting hurt due to this vehicle issue. I would like to know what is going to be done to correct this issue.
I have a Silverado ZR2 with a 6.2L. My engine blew on it. The main bearing seized on it at the dealership. Its been at the dealership for the last 7 weeks waiting for an engine to be shipped. This is ridiculous that it takes GM this long to ship an engine.
While driving at 65 MPH, on the highway, , the truck , suddenly, without warning, shifted into neutral gear,, we were able to coast / navigate to the side of the road, turn off the engine and restart. It worked fine for about a week then a second incident occurred - same situation but car engine could not be turned off, could not put into park , or drive.. car stalled. Eventually, we were able to get the car started, but we took it to the nearest Chevrolet dealer, as we were afraid to drive very far with this situation. This ia a huge safety concern, there are no warning lights, messages , prior symptoms or anything .. passengers and other drivers are at risk for an accident to occur. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer at Classic Chevrolet. They have indicated the engine must be replaced. This car is new and only had 26,000 miles. It is on warranty. The Engine is on backorder with no ETA. We have been without our truck for 7 going on 8 weeks now. We keep contacting the dealer but still no outlook for an engine. We have called GM manufacturing but get no where with customer service or customer reps. They promise call back but then it turns into constant phone tag with a TAT of 24-48 hours if we miss their phone call. The car was purchased new [XXX]. The first occurrence of this problem was [XXX]. Second occurrence was [XXX]. Truck as been at Classic Chevrolet Dealer in Grapevine, Tx since [XXX]. My GM 6.2L L87 Engine failed at 65,000 miles. Left me stranded at an intersection blocking traffic. Traffic safety and state police had to come direct traffic while I was waiting for a tow. Two seperate dealers quoted me over $15,000 to replace the engine with 1/2 the cost covered by GM. This was too expensive for me, so I ended up trading the vehicle in and taking the negative equity hit on a new vehicle loan. I seen there was an investigation opening on GM 6.2L L87 engine failures and I wanted to share my experience. This also happened to more people I know, including my own father with his 2022 Cadillac Escalade
Complete engine failure while traveling 70 mph on highway. No warning prior to failure, very lucky to not be involved in crash. No dash warning lights or gauges indicating any potential issues. Truck was repaired under manufacture's warranty in August 2024 at GM dealership. The following were the issues found in August: Two pistons with stacked compression rings and abnormal scoring on piston skirts, misfire on cylinder 7 and oil on the spark plug, engine disassembled and found oil ring stacked on cylinders 2, 6 & 7. All 8 pistons were replaced, connecting rod bearings replaced. The complete engine failure happened today 2/10/2025. The truck is sitting at a GM dealership waiting for GM approval to replace engine. 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 6.2 L V8. First issue in August 2024 it had 52k miles, today's engine failure it had 65k miles.
I started to hear a light tick/knocking sound during my daily 68 mile commute to work, 3/1/2024. When I would accelerate, the ticking would get louder. I noticed a bit of shaking at the same time of acceleration. I took it into the dealership on 3/2/2024 where they discovered metal shavings in my oil filter. They told me I needed an entire new engine at 51,000 miles. They replaced the engine under my existing power train warranty (which was valid until vehicle got to 60,000miles). I got my truck back on 4/19/2024, and was told I would NOT be given any additional warranty or guarantee for the engine and labor associated with the replacement. I asked if there was any additional warranty that would be given, and they said no. I have a high mile commute, and in this instance, my Power Train warranty was up just a few months after the replacement. My service advisor said if I had paid out of pocket, they would offer a 100,000 mile warranty. But since it was a warranty replacement, that I would only have the balance of whatever remained on my powertrain warranty. My concern is that this may happen again. I want to report my issue to be sure that every replacement is fully investigated and GM is held accountable. This is the first new vehicle I've purchased, the 5th vehicle I have owned in my lifetime and I have never needed a new engine. This is a fully loaded top of the line truck. It has every added feature.
Engine failed and is being replaced by dealer. Engine failed on busy highway. Has been confirmed by free replacement. There was no warning until seconds before the failure. I own 2 Chevy Pick up trucks, the other is 2021 and it had experienced the same failure in March of 2023. VIN [XXX] This was over 6 weeks ago and Chevrolet still has no replacement date. The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check oil pressure warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not officially diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the vehicle was consuming excessive amounts of engine oil. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer every 1,000 miles for the oil level to be checked. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
On 12.27.24, the vehicle lost motive power while traveling through a busy and dangerous intersection and coasted to a stop. It was towed to a GM Dealership where it was determined that the engine had seized as it wouldn't crank. The serpentine belt was also noted to be atypically damaged as if it wasn't riding evenly / correctly on the pulleys. The vehicle may be available for inspection but as of this date, repairs have been authorized... so availability may change. The dealer will likely retain the failed engine. The sudden loss of motive power is always potentially dangerous. In my situation, I could have been unable to move out of a busy intersection and been subject to cross-traffic collision. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer but has not been further inspected by anyone other than the dealer. No warning indicators occurred that led me to believe their was an impending issue with the powertrain / engine.
noticed my engine sounded different, its a 2022 and i owned it for 1.5 years, i was taking it to the dealer for a oil change anyways, when i was there i asked them to through ears on it, they called me a hour later trying to explain it was due to the cold air (15-20 degrees) and the 6.2l uses 93 gas. i asked them why it didnt sound like that last winter and then the senior take wanted to keep it for a few days to go over it more, 5 days later i stop in there because im not getting a answer to be told i need a new motor because my bearing are shot at only 16k miles. the chevy dealer also gave me the option to trade it in to try to "help" but then wanted to offer me 10K less then what i paid for it. i told them to just do the repair, however im told the wait in best case scenario is 6 months but can take as long as 12 months..... im pretty disgruntled about this entire situation. my trucks a 2022 silverado LT trail boss, and they supplied not even a equal truck. i was given a 2024 silverado custom which has alot less features. meanwhile im stuck paying my auto loan for my truck that i cant drive, so its sitting in the back of a chevy dealers parking lot losing value.
I was driving down the highway at 60 MPH and a display warning came on the display monitor. It said shift into neutral and restart engine. Then the engine died and I had to try and get off the highway. There was a complete lose of power so getting off the highway was difficult without any power including steering. The engine would not restart and when to tow truck came about 2 hours later it still would not start or shift into neutral to be loaded. Eventually the tow driver got it to shift into neutral so he could loaded the truck. My safety was at risk because it was difficult to get off the road and had there been more traffic it could of resulted in a collision. I was in a dead area for phone service and I had to sit there for about 2 hours waiting for someone to stop and help me get to an area with cell service. The pickup was dropped off at the nearest GM dealership and they looked at it and the engine had a catastrophic failure. It requires a new engine, but since it is under warranty it may take up to 1 years for a replacement.
August 24, 2024 I was driving my 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 6.2 L V8 engine with 47,258 miles. I was traveling at approximate 65 mph. My engine siezed up and I had to pull my vehicle off of the two lane road I was traveling. The vehicle was towed to the dealership. Approximately a month after the vehicle engine seized because I did not have the funds to cover the repairs at the time of engine failure. Once the vehicle engine was diagnosed at the dealership I was advised that the repairs were under warranty. The repairs took appoximately one month due to waiting on new engine to be provided by the manufacture. My vehicle was returned repaired on 10/31/2024 with the same type of engine. I was advised that engine warranty would not be extended on the new engine. That this engine was only warranted under the old engine mileage and age.
- Engine seizure: Reason Undisclosed to me - Vehicle was traveling at highway speeds, lost power steering - Dealership disclosed that it was due to an engine seizure - UNKNOWN - Only 1 indicator came on the instrument cluster and occurred after the failure. The indicator stated “Shifting conditions not met” I had lost power from the vehicle and vehicle shifted into neutral by itself. The vehicle was within normal temperatures before the incident and maintenance was up-kept.
My truck is equipped with the chevrolet 6.2 engine. I was driving on interstate when I got a reading on the dash that the engine was shutting down due to the engine oil overheating. I did get to the berm safely without being hit by another car. Normally wouldn't think that the engine blowing up would be safety related but it happened in traffic.
While driving under normal conditions the 6.2 liter engine in my truck locked down. I was traveling at 70mph in Interstate traffic at night and the vehicle shifted into neutral on its own and had no power. The truck then prompted me to press the start button. Unbeknownst to me at this point the engine had seized up with no warning so I pushed the button which promptly killed all my electronics, lights, etc. Thankfully I was able to "bully" my way towards the shoulder in traffic and roll off the road before I completely lost momentum. The truck would not restart on the shoulder. Towed it to my own shop where we determined the engine had seized. The truck has since been taken to the dealership for warranty work. The truck has 40,000 miles on it at the time of failure with no prior signs of issues. I have been a driver for 24 years, driving class V trucks daily for most of that. I don't know if the average driver would have avoided the potential collisions trying to get off the road with no power that I frankly feel I was lucky to do.
While attempting to merge onto the freeway from the "on ramp," the acceleration began to dissipate. I noticed the truck had shifted itself into neutral. I then had to put my emergency lights on and coast as long as I could. There was not a check engine light. The vehicle also would not restart. It was then towed to a Chevrolet dealership and the recommendation was to replace the engine. They had notified me that this was a common issue with this engine and they see this all the time. There were four trucks ahead of me at this dealership alone. The story was the same and neighboring dealerships. At the time, they were not able to estimate the time for repair to be complete. This was a safety risk since there were cars behind me and the vehicle lost power. This could have resulted in an accident and caused injury to myself or others. There is also risk being stranded on the shoulder of a major freeway awaiting a tow truck.
The car decided to stop working all of a sudden without warnings or check engine lights, the sound was very loud and jolty, thankfully I was near my house and I was able to park the car. It sounded like there was a hiccup in between its jolt, and the car will shake aggressively until i turned it off. I had the truck towed to my dealer, it took two weeks for them to get back to me and tell me that my engine had metal shreds inside and I needed a new engine. It’s been almost 2 months and I’m still waiting for the tracking number of the new engine. The GM customer support has been very cooperative in regards to this issue. But the time and risk this kind of damage imposes in the vehicle makes me think twice about the safety of the truck. I certainly wouldn’t want this type of failure to happen at 65mph in a highway.
My 2022 Chevrolet 1500 Trail boss (L87 V8) with 65,135 was making a clicking noise. I proceeded to make a service appointment with my local Chevrolet dealership on 05/03/2024. As I showed up for my scheduled appointment, I was turned away by the dealership due to lack of staff. I was told by my service advisor that my truck should be fine to drive for a few days till my rescheduled appointment on [XXX]. On my way to the dealership for the newly rescheduled appointment, my truck engine shut off unexpectedly and without any visual indication of engine problems. I had to call a tow company to take my truck to the dealership. Per the dealership's review, I was told over the phone that my engine had "locked up" and I would have to replace the entire engine. I was a couple thousand miles outside of warranty... the dealership told me there was nothing they could do to assist me with the cost of the new engine. This morning on social media, I saw that NHTSA is doing an investigation of the horrible experience I went through. At 28000 km my 2022 Chevrolet trailboss 1500 with the 6.2 started to burn oil. It was averaging 1 litre every 2000km. The dealership told me this was perfectly acceptable for consumption on this engine. From 28000 km to 45967km I had it in multiple times due to low engine oil warnings and loss of power. At 45967km I took it to another Chevrolet dealership and they inspected my truck and determined that it was caused by piston and rings. This was done under warranty. I got the call stating my truck will be ready they are just doing a test drive to confirm the issue is fixed. When I got to the dealership they informed me it was ticking and they had to investigate further. During the test drive it collapsed a lifter. After they took my engine apart for a second time this was fixed I got my truck back. Over the course of the next month sitting my truck gave me headaches and made me sick. I found out that exhaust was leaking into my cab through my vents due to a 4 head gas monitoring device. I notified the dealership and made an appt. At 47434km my truck collapsed another lifter while I was on the highway with my wife and children in the vehicle and it started to violently shake with vibrations while trying to maintain or accelerate, all the warning lights in my dash went off and I lost all safety systems. I booked it back into the dealership to have it repaired and asked to have the engine replaced as I have had nothing but problems with it and was not happy with this truck or its reliability. I reached out to Chevrolet Canada at this point and asked to have my engine replaced or my truck replaced because this truck has had nothing but problems (many more outside of the engine) and they apologized and said the best they could do was offer me a hat. I have all service records and all service has been complete at Chevrolet dealerships. Truck has no current engine problems but still has many other problems.
I was driving down the highway at 65mph when the truck shifted into Neutral. Could not shift back into drive. Pulled over 3 lanes to shoulder and stopped, shifted to Park, turned off engine. Restarted and shifted into Drive. While driving to dealer truck seized up and stopped at a red light. Could not start or shift into neutral. Left stranded in traffic hoping not to get rear ended by 65mph traffic. No warning signs, dash light notifications or check engine lights were on.
Engine locked up while towing an empty trailer. Engine is available currently as it is waiting for a new one at dealership. Stranded others and power failure while towing. Engine has been inspected by dealership. There was no warning lights, the engine was stuck around 4000 rpm. =I gave it gas to release tension on transmission and engine locked up. Engine has no other codes or warnings since owning it.
When I first purchased my new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST(6.2L Engine), i noticed a knocking noise under acceleration around 3-5000 miles. I took the truck into Tom Naquin Chevrolet for my first oil change around the 5k mile mark and notified them of the noise. And over the course of the next couple years, i mentioned the knocking noise every time I took it to Naquins, every 5k miles. Chevrolet deemed the noise as normal and told the dealership to perform no further inspections on the motor. The last two oil changes, I notified the dealership that the noise was getting worse and more noticeable when slightly accelerating. They heard the noise and reached out to chevrolet again and the same thing, they deemed it as normal and advised the dealership to not further investigate. Fast forward to November 30th, 2024, I had my family in the truck and we were driving back from getting a Christmas tree. When we left the tree farm, i noticed the knocking noise was significant and I had no power when accelerating. I dropped my wife and kids off and took my truck straight to the dealership. The second i pulled in, the truck shut off and the motor seized up. It has been at the dealership since that day and the replacement engine is still on backorder with no ETA provided.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at slow speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that when the speed increased above 30 MPH, the vehicle jerked forward, and several unknown warning lights illuminated. Sounded like a bearing let loose. Only 22K miles on the vehicle. Engine started making loud metal on metal noises(even once parked) and loss of power. Towed back to dealership and waiting for further feedback.
Engine seized up without warning while driving 55MPH on busy, curvy, two lane road. Coasted to a stop around a blind curve and stuck on narrow shoulder to pull over on. Date of occurrence was 9/3/24.
Driving in traffic on two lane, busy state highway at 55MPH the engine stalled without warning. I started pulling over to the shoulder of the road while trying to process what happened. To restart the engine required me to place the automatic transmission in neutral and press the keyless stop/start button. Someone driving the vehicle besides myself may panic and place the gear selector in the wrong position thereby causing an accident at highway speeds. Had this happened in a busy intersection it may caused a collision. Luckily the engine restarted and was able to proceed without incident.
Driving on busy state highway at 55MPH the engine began loosing power and making loud squealing and metallic knocking noises. Fortunately there was a gas station 1/4 mile away and I was able to coast with the engine running and safely exit traffic. This engine is a newly remanufactured unit with only 7000 miles on it replaced under warranty. The previous engine completely seized in a similar traffic situation. It has now been towed to a dealer and diagnosed as crankshaft or bearing failure. There was no warnings or indications of impending engine failure. A less experienced driver may have continued on driving unaware the engine is about to seize completely leaving the vehicle without power steering and brakes which may result in loss of control and panic.
My truck was put in the shop for loss of power. after 28 days the dealer had diagnosed and repaired the truck. They had to replace all of the valve train lifters along with 1 broken push rod. I was driving home at about 35 - 40 mph when my truck began to shutter and the steering felt like I was going over a washboard road. I was only less than a mile from my home when this started and was able to limp home and had the truck towed to the dealership. After I receive my truck back I opened a claim with GM. Claim # 9-14306272503 on 12/20/2024. I have not received any feedback from GM or the Dealer.

The contact stated that after the vehicle had started, the vehicle failed to exceed 5 MPH while driving. The contact stated that there was a knocking sound coming from the vehicle and the vehicle was shaking abnormally. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to the residence. No warning light was illuminated. The manufacturer was contacted, and the vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was diagnosed with failures of the lifters and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired because the replacement engine was not available. The dealer offered a buyback through the regional manager, but no action had been taken. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 13,047.

Truck shut off while getting off of ramp of I10 150 miles from home. Check engine light came on. Let truck sit for 10 minutes while on phone with onstar. Got truck to start and off highway. Let sit for another 30 minutes. Truck started with no lights on. Drove to dealer. They said it was a battery issue. One week later driving and check engine came back on. Drove straight to dealer. They said cam shaft and needs new engine. That was on Dec 17th. Still waiting for engine that they have no idea when I will recieve. This is a 2024 GMC 1500 Denali Reserve with 6.2 liter and has 8801 miles
Engine failure. I was traveling back from vacation towing my trailer when without warning the engine seized up. No engine lights or high temperature until that moment. Fortunately we were traveling with another couple behind. Traveling at highway speed we pulled over on the shoulder. Friends pulled us off of the highway to a safe location to be towed when possible. Very concerning having to deal with that situation with family and friends on the highway!
Two separate but related incidents: 1. Sudden complete loss of power on a busy highway interchange. I had to pull over in an unsafe merge point. The truck would not start and had to be towed to a dealership. The tow driver was eventually able to start the truck and load it on a flatbed. The dealership had the vehicle for 3-4 days and replaced the starter and a fuse. 2. Second incident happened approximately 24 hours after getting truck back from the first incident. Sudden loss of power coming up a large hill. Truck completely died and would not start again. Tow truck driver could not get the truck started and therefore could not get the truck in neutral. Tow truck driver had to drag the truck on to a flatbed and tow to a dealership. Dealership reported metal in the oil filter and requires complete engine replacement. The incident happened on December 16th, 2024.
My engine had to be fully replaced @ 28k miles due a crankshaft bearing failing and sending metal shards through my engine. Stranded me on the side of the highway for three hours. Was able to get to the shoulder before it seized up.Also my entire wiring harness and ECU had to be replaced shortly after the engine.
Our check engine light came on 12/17/24 for a oil pressure sensor issue. We promptly brought the truck to the shop where they changed out the sensor, completed an oil change and manually checked the oil pressure. They advised us that the truck was good to drive and there was no indications of any further issues on 12/20/24. 3 hours into our drive on 12/21/24 our engine sized going 80MPH with no warning at 64,000 miles. We got the truck towed to the closest GM dealer where they let us know that the engine had seized. We still have yet to get a clear answer as to what caused the engine to seize other than that it is a "known issue". There were mentions of the lifters as well as storage issues by GM (i.e. their engines were stored in sheds where they may have gotten wet prior to install). GM offered a good will warranty at 60% coverage. They have ordered that engine but no timeline has been given (other than "months" followed by a laugh) because they are on a nationwide backorder. They also have yet to give us any documentation of what occurred and what is being offered by GM even though it has been requested 5 different times. Seems that if you're having a big enough problem to be on a backorder on the engine that this should be pushed to recall and we should be receiving 100% coverage.
Complete engine failure at 20k miles due to common lifter issue.
I experienced rod bearing failure in my L87 6.2L engine at 27k miles. Luckily it didn't seize up while driving, but they did fail as I was driving home. Decided to report this after reading that it is becoming a common problem, but not a recall issue yet. GM is going to replace the engine, but there is no time frame whatsoever. I've seen people complaining about not having their repairs done for months at a time. I'm currently on week number two & counting.
I purchased this used pickup on [XXX] with 16,912 Miles. On [XXX] with 19,970 the engine expired on the pickup while I was driving on [XXX] in South Dakota. It was replaced by Northtown Automotive in Yankton, SD in early July 2024. On [XXX] the second engine expired while I was driving down [XXX] in South Dakota at 33,843 Miles. -Bearing Failure -My Safety was put at Risk due to the vehicle instantaneously Stalling in the middle of a 4 Lane interstate without any prior warnings. -The vehicle has been diagnosed by 2 dealerships which both state that receiving a new engine is near to impossible due to this exact issue to be happening to a lot more of the same vehicles at the same time. So unfortunately they cannot confidently give me an ETA or anything in regards to my vehicle even being fixed. -Yes by 2 GM Mechanics -No Warnings at all, the major concern is that there were no warnings at all. As well as leaving me stranded in the middle of a busy Interstate.
The engine shutdown while I was driving on the highway. Vehicle accessory power was working but engine wouldn’t start. Truck was towed to dealer for repair. Dealer is replacing motor.
Driving at cruising speed and the truck just shut off and left me stranded on the side of the road. Dealership said the engine died and it needs to be replaced. They’ve had it since Thanksgiving and today is the 19th of January.
Passenger side lifter Bank failed at 4,000 mi.
I purchased the truck June of 2023 Fast Forward to November 2024 their telling me my truck needs a new engine
In March of 2024 my 2022 Silverado with the 6.2L V8 suffered a catastrophic main crankshaft bearing failure resulting in the vehicle losing power on a local highway. I was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road where it would not restart. GM replaced the engine under warranty. 8 months later (november of 2024) the same vehicle suffered a subsequent engine failure with similar symptoms but I haven't yet recieved the exact cause.
I was driving down I 15 by Mald, Idaho and warning lights came on and the engine died. I had no power a guided the vehicle to.the shoulder. Th truck would.not restart and had to be towed home 80 miles. Since then they have had the vehicle 5 weeks and when I took it home I only got 5 m8les and it did the same thing. They towed it to the dealership and said it blew the engine again. Im.still waiting to hear when it will be fixed. Its very dangerous to drive a vehicle that just stops running in the middle of traffic.
GM has issue with Part restriction on the bottom end of the motor and rocker bearings going bad. No recalls on this just TSB. With that being said the motor blew a rod through the block because of the part restriction on the bottom end of the motor. GM wont fix it because it just a TSB. GM states that this is an issue the customer needs to fix and to look out for these issues. Even though the bottom end of the restriction is a catastrophic failure when there motor fails. I was 20 MPH when the rod in the motor went through the block. Now I got a 50000 dollar paper weight I cant drive because GM refuses to fix there issue.
Transmission started to having issues going uphill, against the wind and trying to get up to speed on the on-ramp of the highway.
90,000 miles engine blown. Chevy mechanic says there is metal in the oil.
Only 2 years old and engine blown up. Chevy mechanic said that the cylinder walls could be scared. He said that could be where the metal shavings are coming from
Driving to work on the highway at speeds up to 70 MPH. engine started misfire and several lights came on. only way to keep moving was to push accelator to floor until i was able to reach a place to stop. took to dealer and they replaced one lifter spring under warranty. engine only had 46,000 miles. engine is 6.2l v8
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back in again and the local dealer diagnosed a failure related to the radiator. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.

Periodically at low speeds my transmission will hard shift. This causes my vehicle to lurch forward. This has happened several times to me. I have taken it to my Chevrolet dealership and have been told that this is a known problem but nothing they the dealership can do about it! I can only speculate but they are waiting for GM to make a decision on what must be done. I believe the transmission is mechanically faulty.
Engine started misfiring at 33,000 miles, dealer replaced fuel injector still happening. Now they are breaking down the engine to check the cam shaft, I guess I will see my truck in 2 - 3 weeks. Front collision warning not working properly for the second time within a year. Dealer says they are replacing the camera.
The contact owned a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 MPH, an abnormal, burning plastic odor began to emit from the vehicle coming to a complete stop. As the contact made a left turn, the contact's passenger noticed flames coming from underneath the hood of the engine. The contact and the passenger both immediately exited the vehicle upon pulling off to the shoulder of the road. The contact stated that they were unaware if any warning lights had appeared on the instrument panel during the failure. The contact lifted the hood and saw that flames had engulfed the entire passenger side of the engine bay. Authorities were called to the scene and the fire department extinguished the fire. Both a police report and a fire report were filed. No injuries were reported during the fire incident. The vehicle was initially towed to an independent mechanic but was later towed to an undisclosed location by the contact's insurance company. Both the dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure but neither offered the contact any assistance. The vehicle was destroyed as a result of the fire. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000.

Known exhaust leak issues from under the truck as well as under the hood allowing raw exhaust to enter the cab. CO levels increase to a unsafe level while leak is present. Dealer who looked at the issues states the exhaust leak is "normal". Worried about CO poisoning causing drowsiness and potential accidents being blamed on driving tired where reality is this is a byproduct of CO exposure.
Driving on busy road and the engine cut off completely without warning on a busy Highway. The first time it happened vehicle could be restarted and get to dealership and no code and unable to figure out the cause. Second time driving again on a busy road and happened on a curve and it shut down and would not restart and then had to wait for a tow and call for police to help due to busy traffic area as well. Engine has to be completely replaced. Vehicle only has 24000 miles and is 2022. Now I’m told it needs new engine and it has been 4 weeks and backordered…how has this not been a safety issue already and a concern prior? GM should be doing more. I’m concerned to get this truck back and have the same problem again.
I was driving on [XXX] where the speed limit varies from 65-75 MPH. I hit 70mph and randomly the truck jolted and dropped down to 40mph without warning. Cars swerved to avoid hitting me and I was shaken. I called the dealership who said there are no recalls and nothing to worry about, but call if it happens again. Two days later I was driving up to Pa from TN. 7 hours away from home and also on [XXX] and the truck did it again 3 times in a row. The truck was bouncing all over the highway and people trying their best to avoid me. I managed to get off but did hit and go over something when I was getting off the highway. I took the back streets and found a dealer. The transmission needs to be replaced the think, on a 2 year old truck with 50k miles. Apparently factory caused electrical issues. This truck has been an electrical nightmare since we purchased it. They need to issue a recall with all the transmission and engine issues that Chevy is experiencing. Vehicle engine blew up stopped running. I was driving up Highway 17 leaving Santa Cruz heading towards Sacramento when Engine failed was able to pull off the side of the freeway without being sideswiped had to have CHP come and shut down the number one lane in order to get vehicle towed. Was pulling a travel trailer. Vehicle and trailer were towed to the closest hotel in Scotts Valley the following day truck was towed to Watsonville Chevrolet where they tore the engine apart and found the catastrophic failure of the engine, vehicle was inspected by Watsonville Chevrolet mechanic. There were no warning mites before engine stopped working no warning and was very fortunate by God's graces to get off the side of the highway before being sideswiped or rear-ended. The repair took 47 days to fix two days after I got the vehicle back the battery was dead because certain electrical components like battery and stereo were not reconnected therefore caused a drain and would not start. Had to call GM again to have the vehicle towed to Folsom Chevrolet California where they kept the vehicle for 9 days to fix the problem which was electrical.
The contact owned a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated while in traffic the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle, but no warning light was illuminated. When the contact pulled over on the side of the road smoke was coming from under the hood of the vehicle that then became flames. The contact had minor burns to the eyebrows and hair and some items of clothing were burned. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed by the insurance company. The dealer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 17,000.

Idling rough still. Even after bcm replacement a week ago. Messages for "key not found" only one more start allowed. Grinding noise like over cranking when you hit engine button. Diagnostics showed 93 misfires on cyl 4. No tsb. Drove vehicle again attempting to duplicate and couldn't find issue. Replaced #4 spark plug. Reprogrammed the bcm as dealership forgot a step to program both keys.
7500 oil change, tire rotation multi vehicle inspection appt. With issues. - didn't do oil change/inspection. Because of major issue with transmission/engine. Vehicle running rough, happens at idle or while driving. Sounds lik it will stall. When u put vehicle in gear drive or reverse vehicle lunges towards direction its in gear. Radio lights on dash decide to dim on their own, shuts off on its own. Will not let u adjust dimness you must shut off for it to re light up which is a 50/50 chance. Going over bumps loud noise coming from rear, vehicle does get squirmy when you hit a large bump. Large loud whinging noise upon acceleration. Intermittent issue with key fobs usually spare key not found on dash. Still. Diagnosis papers attached. It is a balance shift gear crank shaft case; they have to remove the transmission and the engine completely from my truck and replace parts! Takes over 1.5 for parts to get delivered, plus they will have my vehicle for 7 days plua approx to do repair. But for now they told me it's cool that I drove it still with crank shaft and balance gear shift issues! They cannot do 7500 mile oil change as they have to remove the engine and they want to wait to do oil so its not wasted when they have to rip engine out. All other issues will be address once this issue is fixed because they are hoping that these problems are solved with the major repair. Tsb# 23-NA-015.
bran new got it 0 miles. vehicle began stalling and then began jerking now vehicle only has 4000 miles. Dealer said it a transmission problem. the vehicle stated jerking while I was on hwy going about 65-70 miles. No warning lights came on.
My transmission has been slipping and shifting very hard. The dealer tried relearning the transmission twice and that did not solve the problem. The cooler line has failed and now the transmission is being replaced. The radiator also failed and started leaking. The turbo is making either a metal on metal grinding noise or a bearing squeaking noise.
After 10000 miles my transmission is shifting erratically, especially in the morning
While driving on a road trip the vehicle created a loud bang from the engine, then ran smoothly for another 20 minutes. The vehicle was then parked for about 3 hours. When the vehicle was started again the engine ran rough and banging sound was constant. Called dealer who stated that the vehicle was safe to continue to drive since there was no check engine light on. Drove the vehicle home and the banging sound was consistent as well as running rough. Vehicle was towed to the dealership. Lifter on both sides of the engine were at faulted and needed replacing.
High Co2 in cab every time I start the truck due to exhaust leak
The car has been running in remote start mode.mode. The problem with this car is that even when I shut off the vehicle, the engine keeps running.Onstar was able to come in overnight to retrieve the truck and deliver it to the dealer. It's not safe to drive a truck in these conditions, but since my family and I were on the other side of town, we decided to slow down and head home. Note : The truck was full of gas This is a safety issue that must be addressed as people leave their trucks inside their homes while the truck is still on. It also increase the level of CO2 inside the house hold . Another fact while the truck stayed on the air condition system also stayed on ( full power ) and i start smelling burned motor which i belive this would caused fire
While on vacation, Engine light came on , returned home due to excessive DEF usage, poor fuel mileage and heavy deisel smell in cab. Brought vehicle in to Gerry Lane on 11/8/22. *Was told 7-10 days to get parts an not to drive, May Catch On Fire due to an open exhaust. (Concerned because we drove home over 1,200 miles). From Service Advisor.. Our tech found the number exhaust gas temperature sensor missing from the diesel particulate filter and catalytic converter assembly, likely blown out due to excess pressure in the system. We’re going to replace that sensor, the DPF/converter assembly, and the relevant seals, gaskets, and clamps for that repair.
One week prior to the incident my engine had a loud ticking/knocking noise when starting up especially on a cold start, one night before thanksgiving driving to California I had my truck on cruise control 80mph when suddenly without any warning the engine shut off! My touch screen and speed gauge were still on I tried pulling over as quickly as I can with my emergency flashers on, I was almost side struck by trailers passing by me doing so! My truck got towed to the nearest Chevy dealer where I was told it was an electrical issue at first, then 3 hours after that call the service team called again telling me they have found metal engine shavings and pieces in my engine while draining my engine oil. Service team told me they contacted GM for a new engine replacement and my truck will be in their shop for a month waiting for delivery and working on my truck. All this damage because of the AFM DFM feature in V8 engines and it happening at 7,000 miles it’s unacceptable.

I have two GM vehicles. 1) 2022 GMC Sierra Denali 4x4; 6.2 V8 and 2) 2022 Chevy Silverado High Country; 6.2 V8 as well. My Chevy is producing a mysterious black substance, whereas the Sierra does not. I am being told that this behavior is normal. I would expect the same behavior from both vehicles, but that is not the case.
